Italian deputies on Friday approved two resolutions calling on the government to support the goal of a Palestinian state but stopped short of supporting recognition now, AFP reported.A motion in support of recognizing “Palestine” and another opposing any steps in that direction were voted down, according to the report.Israel welcomed the parliament's decision not to follow Britain, France and Spain, whose legislatures have all passed resolutions calling on their governments to recognize a Palestinian state."We positively welcome the Italian parliament choosing not to recognize a Palestinian state and opting to support direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian on the basis of the principal of two states, as the right way to pursue peace," read a statement from Israel's embassy in Rome.The vote in Italy was originally supposed to have taken place last week but was postponed, reportedly under pressure from Israel.A host of European countries recently voted in favor of recognizing a Palestinian state: British lawmakers voted overwhelmingly on October 13 in favor of a non-binding motion to "recognize the state of Palestine". Sweden announced on October 30 it officially recognized the state of "Palestine". Spanish lawmakers have also adopted calling on the government to recognize a Palestinian state.A similar vote is planned in Belgium, where legislators are working on a resolution to recognize a Palestinian state, though the government said last week any timing to proceed will depend on European Union action.In December, Portugal's parliament adopted a resolution calling on the government to recognize a Palestinian state, though Portugal's Foreign Minister Rui Machete said after the vote the government "will choose the moment best suited" to recognize the Palestinian state.

Obama’s administration wishes to deflect American concerns about the unenforceable deal it is negotiating with Shiite Iran by conducting a demonization campaign against Israel and its Prime Minister.If I were Netanyahu, I would schedule Town Hall meetings across America.I share Jonathan Tobin’s view that Netanyahu should meet with everyone and anyone to warn them about the utter foolishness of negotiating with Iran and the grave danger to American interests if Obama stops Israel and a willing coalition of allies from attempting to stop Iran since America is not inclined to do so and Russia is inclined to further enable the Iranian nuclear enterprise.Israel has known what it is to live with constant Jihad that cannot be appeased—only militarily defeated, weakened, beaten back. America and Europe are just learning about this but their political leaders are telling them that Jihad and terrorism have nothing to do with Islam, and that what Jihadists need are jobs and an education. This—despite the fact that so many Jihadists are well educated and come from wealthy or solidly middle class families.Americans had better pay attention to what Netanyahu has to say. Sweden has just fired their entire national job agency staff, not only because of corruption and bribery, but because “several aides may have been trying to recruit newly arrived immigrants to ISIS.”The Muslim birthrate in England has doubled within a decade. An analysis of the 2011 Census by the Muslim Council of Britain suggests that “the Muslim population has risen by 75%;” and “in some parts of Birmingham more than 80% of school pupils are Muslim.” If British-born Muslims as well as refugees are willing to assimilate and become Westerners that is fine—but if many British Muslims believe that ISIS is justified, want to live under Sharia law; and if prominent Muslim spokesmen view the Charlie Hebdo and kosher supermarket Jihadists as justified—then Britain has a problem.

Obama is already threatening to hold AIPAC hostage by not going to their upcoming meeting and he and his senior staff are “boycotting” Netanyahu’s speech in Congress. Obama is going to blame Israel and the Jews for his own failed policies.Netanyahu does not want any policy to stop a nuclear Iran or to stop Jihad from failing. If I were Netanyahu, I would schedule Town Hall meetings across America; taking ads out in the mainstream media to ensure accurate coverage of what he has to say; and meeting with political leaders on both sides of the aisle in any and all the ways that are possible.

US President Barack Obama is sending National Security Advisor Susan Rice and UN Ambassador Samantha Power to address the AIPAC convention next week.The two are “widely seen as among the most anti-Israel members” of Obama's administration, according to Breitbart.com, which says the decision to send them is “a further slap in the face” by Obama.Rice caused a stir earlier this week when she told interviewer Charlie Rose that the decision by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to address a special joint session of Congress – after being invited by republican House Speaker John Boehner – was “destructive” to the fabric of US-Israel relations.Power said, in 2002, that the US should send troops to impose peace between Israelis and Palestinians – although she later took back this statement.President Obama addressed the AIPAC in 2012, but no high level administration officials addressed the 2013 conference. Breitbart notes that in 2010, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton addressed the AIPAC conference in the midst of a heated dispute with Israel over housing in Ramat Shlomo, in northern Jerusalem. Some conference attendees chose not to attend her speech.AIPAC supports bipartisan legislation sponsored by Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) and Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) to expand sanctions against Iran if that nuclear talks fail. Obama has promised to veto this bill – but it may prove to have a veto-proof majority.Netanyahu will also be speaking to the AIPAC conference, and his address to Congress is likely intended to create this veto-proof majority.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said on Friday that Israel’s ties with the United States are strong enough to withstand any disagreements.Speaking to the haredi radio station Kol Barama, Netanyahu said that his upcoming speech to Congress is important because it aims to stop an agreement that is “very dangerous” for Israel.“We are on the eve of Purim, and we remember the attempts in Persia back then to destroy Israel and today, in the same Persia, there is a regime which wants the destruction of the Jewish state,” he said, adding, “The means they want to use to realize that goal is to produce many nuclear bombs, and this agreement gives them the ability to continue to generate a lot of nuclear bombs. And so it is my duty as the Prime Minister of Israel and as someone who is concerned for the future of the Jewish people, to do everything in my power to convince the only body that may prevent this agreement and that is the United States Congress. And that's what I’m doing.”Netanyahu stressed that he “greatly respects” the strong ties between Israel and the U.S., but added that when there is “an issue that can jeopardize our very existence, it is my duty as Prime Minister of Israel to stand up even against the American position if necessary.”“Ben-Gurion declared the establishment of the state of Israel in the face of strong opposition of the State Department at the time,” he continued. “Levi Eshkol went to the Six Day War despite the opposition of President Johnson. Menachem Begin destroyed the Iraqi nuclear reactor against the wishes of President Reagan. There were other examples.”“When there is something that has to do with our very existence, what is expected from the Prime Minister? To bow his head and accept something that is dangerous for the sake of a relationship? John Boehner, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, on Thursday challenged an assertion by the Obama administration that Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's upcoming speech to Congress would be destructive to relations between the United States and Israel."The president's national security advisor says it's destructive for the prime minister of Israel to address the United States Congress. I couldn't disagree more," Boehner said at his weekly news conference, according to the Reuters news agency."The American people and both parties in Congress have always stood with Israel and nothing, and no one, could get in the way," he added.He was responding to comments by National Security Advisor Susan Rice, who said in an interview on Tuesday that Netanyahu's March 3 speech in Congress is "destructive" to the relationship between the two countries."What has happened over the last several weeks by virtue of the invitation that was issued by the speaker and the acceptance of it by Prime Minister Netanyahu two weeks in advance of his elections is that on both sides there have been injected some degree of partisanship, which is not only unfortunate, I think it's destructive of the fabric of the relationship," she said."It's always been bipartisan. We need to keep it that way. When it becomes injected with politics that's a problem," added Rice.White House spokesman Josh Earnest backed the comments on Wednesday, telling reporters, “I believe what Susan was referring to is how reducing the U.S.-Israeli relationship to just a relationship between two political parties is destructive to a relationship between our two countries that for generations had been strengthened through bipartisan cooperation, not just in this country but in Israel.”The invitation to Netanyahu to address Congress was extended by Boehner, who did so without consulting the White House or the Democrats, and later explained he felt it was important to do an end-run around White House "interference".Democrats were outraged, with Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy saying he would not attend the speech and accusing Republican leaders in the House of Representatives of "unilaterally" arranging and politicizing Netanyahu's planned address.Other lawmakers threatened to boycott the speech as well. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said there would be no organized "boycott" of Netanyahu's speech, but she suggested some lawmakers might “be too busy to attend”.On Thursday, Boehner expressed doubts about the ongoing nuclear talks between Iran and world powers as he defended the invitation to Netanyahu. "What is destructive in my view is making a bad deal that paves the way for a nuclear Iran. That's destructive," he said, according to Reuters.Boehner said it was important for the U.S. public to hear what Netanyahu has to say about the "grave threats" Israel faces. "I'm glad that most of my colleagues, Democrats and Republicans, will be there," he said.
