THE JUDGEMENT OF THE NATIONS FOR HATING ISRAEL
GENESIS 12:1-3
1
Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from
thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I (GOD) will
shew thee:
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3
And I will bless them that bless thee,(ISRAELIS) and curse (DESTROY)
him that curseth thee:(DESTROY THEM) and in thee shall all families of
the earth be blessed.
DANIEL 12:8-13
8 And I (DANIEL) heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?
9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
10
Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall
do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise
shall understand.
11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall
be taken away, (at the 3 1/2 yr mark of the 7 yr treaty) and the
abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two
hundred and ninety days.
12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.
13 But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.
MATTHEW 25:31-46
31
When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels
with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
32 And
before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one
from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand,(SAVED) but the goats (LOST) on the left.
34
Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed
of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation
of the world:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37
Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an
hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you,
Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren,
ye have done it unto me.
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the
left hand,(LOST-ISRAEL HATERS) Depart from me, ye cursed, into
everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:(THE LAKE OF

42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44
Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an
hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and
did not minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying,
Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of
these, ye did it not to me.

BIN EXCLUSIVE: Sanhedrin Passes Judgement Against Pope Francis, Obama-By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz September 10, 2015 , 1:57 pm
“Many
peoples will come and say, ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the
LORD, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so
that we may walk in his paths.’ The law will go out from Zion, the word
of the LORD from Jerusalem.” (Isaiah 2:3) 71 elders of Israel who
identify themselves as the Sanhedrin gathered Wednesday on Mount Zion in
a historic trial bringing to judgement Pope Francis and US President
Barack Obama in absentia. The rabbis called the two leaders to trial for
crimes leading to the mortal endangerment of Israel and the Jewish
nation. After appointing each of the judges to sit on the nascent
Sanhedrin, silver horns, similar to those used in the service of the
Jewish Temples, and shofars (rams horns), were blown. The trial was
opened with the statement: “Joyous is the nation who hears the shofar.
Joyous is the nation who knows that this is their land. When will it be
that we hear the shofar of the Messiah?”The central issue the Sanhedrin
focused on during the trial was the changing global tide against Israel
and the Jews. Among the various points brought up by each rabbi on the
Sanhedrin, the main theme centered on the long trail of diplomacy
mislabeled as a peace process, the misguided and dangerous nuclear deal
with Iran and recent attempts to appease the world of Israel as it
murders Christians in Arab countries. The strongest charges were made
against the Pope, who recently recognized a “State of Palestine” with an
official treaty. According to the Sanhedrin, the Pope, who claims to
accept the Bible that states clearly that the land of Israel was given
to the Jews, has placed the world in grave danger. It was agreed
beforehand that for the trial to be a true judgment, a counsel must be
found who would represent the defendants in absentia with a strong
belief in his case. Rabbi Yehoshua Hollander, who was until recently the
Foreign Minister of the Sanhedrin, acted as counsel for the defense and
brought forth compelling arguments that were difficult to refute. While
Hollander agreed that the facts as stated by the Sanhedrin were accurate
and irrefutable, he claimed that each of the defendants were innocent
nonetheless and offered three factors that would lead the Sanhedrin to
withhold judgement from the defendants. The first case, defense by
circumstance, justified the actions of the Pope and Obama in light of
ameliorating circumstances. The second case, defense by deflection,
attributed part of the guilt to others. The third defense, defense by
lack of intent, claimed that there was no criminal intent behind the
actions of the two leaders. By Jewish law, lacking of criminal intent
exonerates the defendant from the criminal charges but would
nevertheless leave the defendant liable for all damages caused by his
behavior.Hollander reasoned that the Pope was faced with massive
slaughter of his followers, and therefore his attempts to placate Islam
were not directed against the Jewish People. He also diverted some of
the guilt from the accused by implicating the Israeli government, who
have acknowledged the Palestinian claims, thereby misleading the
defendants and being complicit in the crime. The same can be said about
Obama, which Hollander explained, “When he took office, the sanctions
were working, albeit not quickly enough. Thus the first defense, defense
by circumstance, is not available.”Hollander did try to justify the
president’s actions by claiming that they appears to be based on hope.
“I would claim that President Obama had no criminal intent,” he stated.
“He said that he believes that by making Iran a member of world
Leadership, they would drop their intent of bombing Israel. It is not
criminal to hold such a hope.”In the end, the Sanhedrin did not come out
with any specific judgement against the Pope and Obama, rather
judgements directed at their policies and actions. Rabbi Hillel Weiss,
spokesman and secretary of the Sanhedrin, explained to Breaking Israel
News, “It was the decision of the Sanhedrin to declare that it is
forbidden for the United States Congress to agree to any process with
Iran until they recognize Israel as the Jewish state according to the
Holy Bible, based on a history that includes the Temple on Har Moriah in
Jerusalem, and they must agree to the removal and disposal of any
nuclear weapons in their possession.”Counsel for the defense, Hollander
made clear his motivations behind his passionate defense of Obama and
the Pope. “There is a problem in the world today, and rather than
separate ourselves, the Jews should be leading and accompanying them in
order to help,” he told Breaking Israel News. “We need to be joining
together. We can do this because have a long history of going into
other countries and coexisting for mutual benefit.”Rabbi Daniel Stavsky,
an elder on the Sanhedrin, told Breaking Israel News following the
trial that Israel must learn from the lessons of the Holocaust in order
to protect the future of the state and the nation.“They cannot forget or
deny this, so the haters of Israel cannot allow themselves to do this
again. Esau is sending Ishmael to kill us in a completion of the
Holocaust,” he told Breaking Israel News. “They pray to idols and to
death. They talk about human rights, which include the right to a
homeland. But they don’t consider Jews to be humans, so we don’t have
these rights. It is not just the land, but also the title of the Chosen
People that they deny. They are stealing our body and our soul. They are
against Israel because they cannot allow us to fulfill the prophecy of
returning to the land.”The next gathering of the Sanhedrin will be
October 8, for further investigation into the judgement.Read more at

Palestinians Condemn
Sanhedrin Decision to Try Pope In Absentia for Recognizing
“Palestine”-By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz September 3, 2015 , 12:30 pm
“He
declares His word unto Jacob, His statutes and His ordinances to
Israel. He has not dealt so with any nation; and as for His judgments,
they have not known them. Hallelujah.” (Psalms 147:19) A Palestinian
member of the al-Fatah Revolutionary Council has spoke out condemning
the self-declared Sanhedrin’s letter to Pope Francis, which demands that
the Pope rescind his recognition of the “State of Palestine” or face
trial in Jerusalem. The Sanhedrin decided to try the Pope after the
Vatican signed its first comprehensive treaty with the “State of
Palestine”, thereby officially recognizing its statehood. The treaty was
ratified on May 13.As previously reported by Breaking Israel News, the
nascent Sanhedrin has also sent a letter to US President Barack Obama,
calling him to trial for “criminal offenses” against the Jewish people.
Both the Pope and Obama have chosen to ignore the summons, but the
Sanhedrin’s cries for justice and truth have not gone
unnoticed.According to the Centre for Research in Globalization, Dimitri
Diliani, a member of the al-Fatah Revolutionary Council, told the
Felesteen online news service that the Sanhedrin’s letter to the Pope
included many false claims about the history of “Palestine” and seeks to
rob the Palestinian people of their natural rights in their homeland
and to deny non-Jews of any rights.Diliani called on the Vatican and
Catholic churches around the world to intervene and put an end to
Israeli “arrogance, racism and violations” against the Palestinian
people and their land. However, Diliani’s claim seems to be inaccurate.
In fact, there is only one reference to the Palestinian Authority in the
Sanhedrin’s letter to the Pope, and that is to refer to it as “an
occupying entity.” The bulk of the Sanhedrin’s claim is that by
recognizing the Palestinian state, the Pope has denied the Holy Bible,
which specifically grants the people of Israel the sole right to the
Land of Israel. The Sanhedrin calls on the Vatican to “remain true to
that which is written in the Bible, in the name of the great prophets,”
and for the Pope to “instruct the Vatican that the sole claimant of
divine right to the Land of Israel is the nation of Israel.”The
Sanhedrin also objects to Pope Francis referring to President of the
Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, as an “angel of peace.” They point
out that he is a Holocaust denier, the truth of which is made evident
in Abbas’s book, “The Other Side: the Secret Relationship Between Nazism
and Zionism,” in which Abbas writes that Holocaust accounts were
greatly exaggerated by the Zionists, who he claims collaborated with the
Nazis. The Israeli government has yet to respond to the Sanhedrin’s call
for trial. Professor Hillel Weiss, the secretary of the Sanhedrin, has
expressed concern to Breaking Israel News that the government might
intervene to prevent the trial from taking place in order to placate
those, like Diliani, who oppose the process. The Sanhedrin will bring
Pope Francis to trial on Mount Zion in Jerusalem on September 9, 2015,
four days before Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year and start of heavenly
Days of Judgement. He will be tried in absentia in a public trial open
to all. Rabbi Yehoshua Hollander will be acting as the sanegor, the
defending counsel. Rabbi Yisrael Ariel and Rabbi Eliyahu Zini will
preside over the court, which will be hearing witnesses and expert
testimony. It should be noted that less than two weeks after the trial,
on September 22, Pope Francis will be hosted at the White House by US
President Barack Obama. The visit, coincidentally, will take place on
the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, when God
finalizes judgement on all mankind.
European Parliament
Sees No Need for Jewish State? -EP rejects amendment calling for
Israeli-Palestinian negotiations to be based on two-state principle.By
Arutz Sheva staff-First Publish: 9/10/2015, 7:37 PM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS
The
European Parliament (EP) passed a resolution on the EU’s Role in the
Middle East Peace Process Thursday, but rejected an amendment calling
for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations to be based on the two-state
principle. The amendment was rejected 421 to 134 with 59 abstentions, in
what critics see as an expression of the EP's reluctance to accept
Israel's very right to exist.Martina Anderson, a Member of the European
Parliament, in an intervention just before the vote, warned that support
for the amendment would pave the way for “ethnic cleansing” of the
non-Jewish population.The American Jewish Committee's Transatlantic
Institute said following the vote that it is disappointed that the EP
did not endorse the principle of “two states for two peoples.”"The
United Nations Resolution 181, the partition plan passed by the UN in
November 1947, specifically called for dividing Palestine into
independent Arab and Jewish states, with each state constituting the
respective homelands for its peoples,” said Daniel Schwammenthal,
Director of the AJC Transatlantic Institute. “It is the rejection of
this very concept of a Jewish homeland in the region that led to the
first Arab-Israeli war and that is still the core of the conflict. It is
unfortunate that the European Parliament failed to reaffirm this
principle, thus missing an opportunity for a constructive support of the
the peace process.“This is nothing short of incitement against the
Jewish state,” said Schwammenthal. “Israel, which already considers
itself a ‘Jewish state,’ respects the civil rights of all its citizens
and is the only country in the Middle East where Arabs enjoy democratic
rights and freedom from persecution.”The resolution, initiated by
Socialist group in the European Parliament, supports EU High
Representative Federica Mogherini’s initiative to give the EU a stronger
role in pushing for peace negotiations between Israel and the
Palestinian Authority. The final resolution, agreed among all major
political groups, is far more balanced than the socialist group's
original draft. It calls among other things for the EU to ensure “that
no EU funding can be directly or indirectly diverted to terrorist
organizations or activities” and acknowledges how “increasing radicalism
and the spread of terrorism in the Middle East are creating significant
security threats for Israel.”“The EU, particularly through its leverage
over the Palestinian Authority as its biggest donor, could make crucial
contributions to help revive the peace process,” said Schwammenthal.
“In order to do that, however, it needs to be seen as an honest broker
by all parties.”The Transatlantic Institute is a Brussels-based think
tank whose declared aim is strengthening the ties between the United
States and the countries of the European Union.

OTHER PAL FLAG OVER UN STORIES
http://israndjer.blogspot.ca/2015/09/palestinians-get-to-raise-their-flag.html
Abbas Calls For PA Flag Over His Capital; Jerusalem-By Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz September 11, 2015 , 5:08 pm
“When
the righteous increase, the people rejoice, But when a wicked man
rules, people groan.” (Proverbs 29:2) After winning the symbolic victory
to fly the Palestinian flag at the United Nations in New York,
Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas called for the same
to be done in Jerusalem, the “eternal capital” of the Palestinians. On
Thursday, the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly voted in favor of a
motion allowing the flying of flags of non-member states with observer
status. This allows the Palestinian flag to now be raised in front of UN
buildings. It is interesting to note that the only other country
benefiting from this new rule is the Vatican, which signed its first
formal bilateral treaty recognizing Palestinian statehood in May. The
Holy See has already announced that it will not exercise the privilege,
asking that it not be named in the motion, despite Pope Francis being
scheduled to address the General Assembly later this month.Archbishop
Bernardito Auza, the Vatican’s UN ambassador, told the assembly after
the vote that “the Holy See has always respected the 70-year practice
and tradition of the United Nations that there are only flags of member
states that are flown at the United Nations.” But, he said, it didn’t
object to the Palestinian proposal and respects the assembly’s
decision.119 countries supported the move while eight, including Israel,
voted against it. 45 nations abstained. Canada, Australia, and the
United States were among those few who voted against the motion. Despite
not being recognized by the UN, 135 countries currently officially
recognize the Palestinian State.Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian UN
ambassador, praised the development.“ Of course we know that raising our
flag will neither end the [Israeli] occupation nor solve the conflict
immediately,” Mansour said. “But raising the flag will signal to our
people everywhere … that their freedom is inevitable, and the
international community supports them in their journey for
justice.”Abbas will be greeted by the PA flag on 30 September, when he
addresses the UN General Assembly in New York. In an interview with the
official Palestinian news agency Wafa, Abbas praised those who supported
“truth and justice,” and stated, “The struggle will continue until the
Palestinian flag flies over our eternal capital, occupied
Jerusalem”.Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Ron Prosor, opposed raising
the PA flag on the grounds that the Palestinians were “attempting to
change longstanding protocols and traditions” of the UN. He was
referring to the fact that the decision to raise the Palestinian flag at
the UN Headquarters in Manhattan went against the previous UN protocol
that did not allow the raising of flags belonging to non-member states.
France backs Palestine flag at UN-By EUOBSERVER-SEPT 11,15
Today,
09:24-More than six EU states, including France, at a vote in New York
on Thursday (10 September) said Yes to hanging a Palestine and a Vatican
flag outside the UN headquarters. The two delegations have the official
status of "non-member observer states". Israel reacted angrily to the
move.
Towards an Independent Palestinian State-Necessity
for Road and Rail Links between Rafah, Hebron, Jerusalem, Nablus and
Janin to Serve a New Palestinian State-By Anthony Bellchambers-Global
Research, September 11, 2015
The UN General Assembly has
voted overwhelmingly in favour of a motion allowing the Palestinian flag
to be flown in front of the UN headquarters. The motion was passed by
119 votes. France, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Ireland and Slovenia being
among the EU states that voted in favour.By way of comparison, in 1947,
UN GA Resolution No.181 to partition the then predominately Muslim Arab
Palestine under British Mandate, to allow the establishment of an
Israeli state was passed by just 33 votes to 13 (with 10 abstentions
including Britain) in an assembly that represented only a minority of
the global community of the time but was pushed through as a matter of
political expediency by a lobby influenced, American congress.‘Plus ça
change, plus c’est la même chose’-Today, however, there is now dramatic
change in the form of the emblematic symbol of the new State of
Palestine that will proudly fly at the United Nations, demonstrating the
power of moral authority over political machination and casino
money. There is now a global consensus that categorically denies the
legitimacy of a Likud charter that hoped for a ‘Greater Israel’
encompassing the whole of former Palestine. That political aim is now
‘dead in the water’ as the flag of an independent State of Palestine is
unfurled at the UN.Now the flag of an independent Palestinian state must
fly over the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza and there needs to be
an international accord for permanent access roads, under UN
supervision, to link the enclaved, constituent parts of the state
together, with a rail link joining Rafah in the South through to Hebron,
Jerusalem, Ramallah, Nablus and Janin in the
North.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/worldmiddleeast34217186
EU code on Israel settler exports expected by December By Andrew Rettman-sept 11,15-euobserver
BRUSSELS,
Today, 09:25-Diplomats expect the EU to publish its guide on retail
labels for Israeli settler exports by December. The European Commission,
whose lawyers are writing it, told EUobserver it’s still “a work in
progress” and declined to give a date.EU foreign relations chief
Federica Mogherini, who’s giving political guidance, recently said the
“work is coming to a close”.Her spokeswoman also declined to give a
date. But the institutions are coming under pressure from the 16 EU
states which, in April, signed a letter to Mogherini urging progress. One
EU diplomat predicted it will come “by the end of September”. A second
diplomat from the group of 16 said it’s expected “in autumn”. A third
one said: “We’re asking, every month, what’s the latest timing?”.A
fourth diplomat said the EU has tacit US approval and a US
precedent.“Similar labelling rules already exist in the US, but almost
nobody knows about them. We just recently stumbled across the US
code”.The European Parliament, on Thursday (9 September) also added
pressure.A landside of 525 MEPs voted Yes to a resolution saying settler
products require “differentiation” and “encouraging” the Commission to
publish. It’s been a long time coming.Member states tasked EU
institutions with it in May 2012. Some of the EU consumer labelling laws
on which it’s based date back over 15 years. The issue itself goes back
to 1967, when Israel conquered Palestine’s West Bank and Syria’s Golan
Heights, and settlers began to build new farms and factories.-Sneak
preview-EU sources say the code will be a short “interpretative note”,
which references existing EU consumer law, and which will be published
in the bloc’s Official Journal.A 2013 internal note drafted by the EU
foreign service, and seen by EUobserver, gives a preview of what it’ll
say.“The main principle behind labelling legislation is that the
consumer has the right to an informed choice, and hence labelling must
not be misleading”, the 2013 note explains. It says origin labels are,
under EU law, “already mandatory” on food and cosmetics. It lists the
food items as: fresh fruit and vegetables; wine; honey; beef and veal;
olive oil; eggs; poultry from third countries; organic products; and
fresh meat from swine, poultry, sheep, and goats. It says EU states can
“voluntarily” put origin labels on “non-food/industrial” goods, for
instance, Israeli firm Sodastream’s fizzy-drink gadgets, which are made
in the West Bank.It adds: “When labelling is mandatory, the geographical
origin must be correctly included in the label. When it is voluntary,
traders are free to decide whether they want to display the origin on
the label, unless omission of that information would mislead the
consumer as to the true origin of the product. If the origin is
indicated, the information must be correct so as not to mislead the
consumer”.EU precedents-Prior action by Belgium, Denmark, and the UK
also indicates what the EU code will say.Belgium’s guidelines, published
last year, “recommend” that settler products should be labelled
“Product from the Golan Heights (Israeli settlement)” or “Product from
the West Bank (Israeli settlement)”.If Palestinians made them, they
should be labelled “Product from the West Bank (Palestinian
product)”.Denmark, in 2012, told retailers: “Food from the
Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories must not be labelled with
‘Israel’ as the country of origin”.It recommended “Origin: West Bank
(Israeli settlement product)” or “West Bank (Palestinian product)”.The
UK, in 2009, said retailers should use “Produce of the West Bank
(Israeli settlement produce)” or “Produce of the West Bank (Palestinian
produce)”.It noted that if retailers label settler exports “Produce of
Israel” they’re “almost certainly committing an offence”.-Trade
impact-The EU-level code will have little direct impact on trade. The EU,
last year, imported €30 billion of Israeli goods. The Commission
doesn’t know how much of it came from settlers, but its best guess is “a
marginal percentage”.The World Bank, in 2012, estimated that EU settler
imports are worth €230 miilion a year.On past form, the UK code, six
years ago, prompted a handful of shops to stop selling settler
products. But the Belgian, British, and Danish action didn’t cause mass
boycotts.None of the three countries have a compliance mechanism in
place or keep data on the impact.A Danish source said Copenhagen did it
mainly to “raise the political profile” of the issue.A Belgian source
said its code amounts to little in reality. “I don’t know about you, but
I simply don’t bother to read all the labels on products I buy. Too
much info (calories, salt content - who cares?) and the print is too
small anyway”, he told this website.Political impact-The impact on
EU-Israel relations could be ugly, however.Mogherini communications
people predict a “tsunami” of Israeli complaints.Israeli Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu, in London on Thursday, compared it to anti-semitism
on the eve of World War II.“We already have a historical memory as to
what happened when Europe marked products of Jews”, he said.An EU source
noted the code was “very important” for Netanyahu when he met EU
Council president Donald Tusk in Jerusalem on Tuesday.Danny Ayalon, an
Israeli diplomat, in a Facebook post on Monday, also feted Israeli firm
Bazelet Hagolan, which makes wine in Syria’s Golan Heights, for
“challenging” what he called “this [EU] boycott”.The company has shipped
4,000 bottles of wine to Europe stamped with the Star of David.“This
sends a clear message to the BDS [boycott] movements in Europe: The
Jewish people are not occupiers in their eternal homeland”, Ayalon
said.-Timing-The Commission’s official line is “there’s no particular
moment for releasing it [the code] and there’s no linkage to any
particular event”.Since the code is based on old laws, it doesn’t need
an EU Council decision to go ahead. But given its sensitivity, EU
diplomats expect Mogherini to consult EU embassies or EU foreign
ministers prior to publication. One reason for not doing it in September
is a new EU initiative to restart Arab-Israeli peace talks.Mogherini, in
the margins of the UN assembly in New York this month, aims to launch
an enlarged version of the Quartet, the UN group handling the peace
process. It includes the EU, the Russia, the UN, and the US. Mogherini,
on the basis of a French proposal in July, wants to add Egypt, Jordan,
and Saudi Arabia. She told MEPs on Wednesday there’s a “deep lack of
trust” between Israel and Palestine which must be rebuilt via
“confidence-building” measures. But some of her staff believe the EU
retail code will see Israel “circle the wagons” against EU
diplomacy.Diplomats say the EU might wait for the US Congress to approve
the Iran nuclear deal in order not to rock the boat.It might also wait
for big Jewish holidays, such as Rosh Hashanah, on 24 September, or Yom
Kippur, on 4 October, to go by in order “not to rub salt into the
wound”.Enforcement-The other question is to what extent the EU will
enforce its code. The Commission and Mogherini say it’s “voluntary”, even
though it’s mostly based on “mandatory” laws. When EUobserver asked if
the EU has ever launched infringement proceedings against EU countries
for non-compliance on origin labels, an EU official said: “No Commission
action on non-application with regard to labelling of Israeli
settlement products took place”.The EU is also likely to downplay the
code politically.“The political imperative is to rhetorically downgrade
it and to present it as as small a move as possible”, an EU source
said.Another EU source noted that when the Commission, in 2013,
published rules forbidding EU grants to Israeli settler entities it
tried to be as quiet as possible.“It was also just applying existing EU
laws”, the contact said.“But Israeli diplomats and Israeli media shot
themselves in the foot by calling it ‘EU sanctions’, which stoked the
debate on Israel’s legitimacy”.In numbers, the Israeli settler
population has grown from almost nil in 1967 to more than half a million
people. It’s grown by 20,000 a year since the EU, in 2012, decided to
draft the code. The settler exports may be worth just €230 million a
year. But Israeli occupation has strangled the Palestinian economy, with
“Product from the West Bank (Palestinian product)” exports to the EU
worth 15 times less.
