US Senator Lindsey Graham calls for Russians to assassinate Putin-Senior lawmaker calls for a Russian ‘Brutus’ or ‘a more successful Colonel Stauffenberg,’ says ‘you would be doing your country — and the world — a great service’ By AFP-MAR 4,22-Today, 9:28 am

WASHINGTON — A leading US Senator Lindsey Graham called for “somebody in Russia” to assassinate President Vladimir Putin after Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in a televised interview Thursday evening.“How does this end? Somebody in Russia has to step up to the plate… and take this guy out,” the senator told conservative Fox News TV host Sean Hannity. He repeated the call later in a series of tweets, saying “the only people who can fix this are the Russian people.”“Is there a Brutus in Russia?” asked the senator, referring to one of Roman ruler Julius Caesar’s assassins.Graham also wondered if “a more successful Colonel Stauffenberg” existed in the Russian military, alluding to the German officer whose bomb failed to kill Adolf Hitler in 1944.“You would be doing your country — and the world — a great service,” he added. The senator, who has served in Congress for over twenty years and has at times been a close ally to former president Donald Trump, had earlier in the day introduced a resolution condemning the Russian president and his military commanders for committing “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity.”Is there a Brutus in Russia? Is there a more successful Colonel Stauffenberg in the Russian military? The only way this ends is for somebody in Russia to take this guy out.You would be doing your country – and the world – a great service.— Lindsey Graham (@LindseyGrahamSC) March 4, 2022-Ukraine says at least 350 civilians have been killed since Putin launched the invasion last week, and over 1 million have fled the country.Moscow claims it does not target civilian areas, despite widespread evidence to the contrary.

No radiation leak at Ukraine nuclear plant after Russian attack kills three-Russian forces now in control of Europe’s largest nuclear plant, but Ukrainian officials still continue to ensure its operations; shelling caused fire at training center at site-By Jim Heintz, YURAS KARMANAU and MSTYSLAV CHERNOV-MAR 4,22-Today, 1:06 pm

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian firefighters on Friday extinguished a blaze at Europe’s biggest nuclear plant that was ignited by a Russian attack and no radiation was released, UN and Ukrainian officials said, as Russian forces pressed their campaign to cripple the country despite global condemnation. The head of the United Nations’ atomic agency said that a Russian “projectile” hit a training center at the Zaporizhzhia plant. Ukrainian officials have said Russian troops took control of the overall site, but the plant’s staff are continuing to ensure its operations. International Atomic Energy Agency Director-General Rafael Mariano Grossi sad that Russian forces were at the plant, but the Ukrainians were in control.Ukraine’s state nuclear plant operator Enerhoatom said that three Ukrainian soldiers were killed and two wounded in the attack. Grossi said two people were injured in the blaze that broke out.Ukraine’s state nuclear regulator earlier said that no changes in radiation levels have been recorded so far after the plant came under attack. Grossi later said no radioactive material was released. The attack caused worldwide concern — and evoked memories of the world’s worst nuclear disaster, at Ukraine’s Chernobyl. The shelling of the plant came as the Russian military advanced on a strategic city on the Dnieper River near where the facility is located, and gained ground in their bid to cut the country off from the sea. That move would deal a severe blow to Ukraine’s economy and could worsen an already dire humanitarian situation. With the invasion in its second week, another round of talks between Russia and Ukraine yielded a tentative agreement to set up safe corridors to evacuate citizens and deliver humanitarian aid to the country, overturned by a war that has sent more than 1 million fleeing over the border and countless others sheltering underground night after night. A handful cities are without heat and at least one is struggling to get food and water. Initial reports conflicted over whether one or two fires broke out at the plant in the city of Enerhodar. Nuclear plant spokesman Andriy Tuz told Ukrainian television overnight that shells fell directly on the facility, and set fire to reactor No. 1, which is under renovation and not operating, and to an administrative training building. On Friday morning, officials only referenced a blaze at the training building when they said that all fires at the plant were out — which Grossi also confirmed. The regional military administration reported unspecified damage to the compartment of reactor No. 1, but said it does not affect the safety of the power unit. The nuclear regulator said staff are studying the site to check for other damage.Grossi confirmed Friday that the building hit was a training center and “not part of the reactor.” He said he did not know what hit the plant but called a “projectile” from Russian forces. He said that only one reactor at the plant is operating, at about 60% capacity. The confusion itself underscored the dangers of active fighting near a nuclear power plant. It was the second time since the invasion began just over a week ago that concerns about a nuclear accident or a release of radiation materialized, following a battle at Chernobyl.A radiation sign outside the deserted town of Pripyat, some 3 kilometers (1.86 miles) from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, February 4, 2020. Once home to some 50,000 people whose lives were connected to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, Pripyat was hastily evacuated one day after a plant reactor exploded on April 26, 1986. (AP Photo/Efrem Lukatsky)-The regulator noted in a statement on Facebook the importance of maintaining the ability to cool nuclear fuel, saying the loss of such ability could lead to an accident even worse than 1986 Chernobyl disaster or the 2011 Fukushima meltdowns in Japan. It also noted that there is a storage facility for spent nuclear fuel at the site, though there was no sign that facility was hit by shelling.Leading nuclear authorities were worried but not panicked. The assault led to phone calls between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Joe Biden and other world leaders. The US Department of Energy activated its nuclear incident response team as a precaution. The Zaporizhzhia regional military administration said that measurements taken at 7 a.m. Friday (0500 GMT) showed radiation levels in the region “remain unchanged and do not endanger the lives and health of the population.” Nuclear officials from Sweden to China also said no radiation spikes have been reported.“The fire at the (nuclear plant) has indeed been extinguished,” Enerhodar Mayor Dmytro Orlov announced on his Telegram channel Friday morning. His office told The Associated Press that the information came from firefighters who were allowed onto the site overnight.British Prime Minister Boris Johnson called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council in “coming hours” to raise the issue of Russia’s attack on the plant, according to a statement from his office. In an emotional speech in the middle of the night, Zelenskyy said he feared an explosion that would be “the end for everyone. The end for Europe. The evacuation of Europe.”But most experts saw nothing to indicate an impending disaster. The International Atomic Energy Agency said the fire had not affected essential equipment and that Ukraine’s nuclear regulator reported no change in radiation levels.“The real threat to Ukrainian lives continues to be the violent invasion and bombing of their country,” the American Nuclear Society said in a statement.Orlov, the mayor of Enerhodar, said Russian shelling stopped a few hours before dawn, and residents of the city of more than 50,000 who had stayed in shelters overnight could return home. The city awoke with no heat, however, because the shelling damaged the city’s heating supply, he said.Loud shots and rocket fire were heard late Thursday around the plant. Later, a livestreamed security camera linked from the homepage of the plant showed what appeared to be armored vehicles rolling into the facility’s parking lot and shining spotlights on the building where the camera was mounted. Then there were what appeared to be muzzle flashes from vehicles, followed by nearly simultaneous explosions in surrounding buildings. Smoke rose into the frame and drifted away.Russian forces seized the largest nuclear power plant in Europe after a building at the complex was set ablaze during intense fighting with Ukrainian defenders, authorities in Ukraine said https://t.co/yf18qqVh0g pic.twitter.com/AbWsoKUzGy— Reuters (@Reuters) March 4, 2022-Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces have brought their superior firepower to bear over the past few days, launching hundreds of missiles and artillery attacks on cities and other sites around the country and making significant gains in the south. The Russians announced the capture of the southern city of Kherson, a vital Black Sea port of 280,000, and local Ukrainian officials confirmed the takeover of the government headquarters there, making it the first major city to fall since the invasion began a week ago.Troops, meanwhile, advanced on Zaporizhzhia, a strategic city near the plant of the same name. A Russian airstrike on Thursday destroyed the power plant in Okhtyrka, leaving the northeastern city without heat or electricity, the head of the region said on Telegram.“We are trying to figure out how to get people out of the city urgently because in a day the apartment buildings will turn into a cold stone trap without water, light or electricity,” Dmytro Zhyvytskyy said.Heavy fighting continued on the outskirts of another strategic port, Mariupol, on the Azov Sea. The battles have knocked out the city’s electricity, heat and water systems, as well as most phone service, officials said. Food deliveries to the city were also cut.Associated Press video from the port city showed the assault lighting up the darkening sky above deserted streets and medical teams treating civilians, including a 16-year-old boy inside a clinic who could not be saved. The child was playing soccer when he was wounded in the shelling, according to his father, who cradled the boy’s head on the gurney and cried.Ukraine’s defense minister said Friday that the flagship of its navy has been scuttled at the shipyard where it was undergoing repairs in order to keep it from being seized by Russian forces. Oleksii Reznikov said on Facebook that the commander of the frigate Hetman Sahaidachny decided to flood the ship.“It is hard to imagine a more difficult decision for a courageous soldier and crew,” Reznikov said.Overall, the outnumbered, outgunned Ukrainians have put up stiff resistance, staving off the swift victory that Russia appeared to have expected. But Russia’s seizure of the Crimean Peninsula in 2014 gives it a logistical advantage now in the country’s south, with shorter supply lines that smoothed the offensive there, said a senior US defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity.Ukrainian leaders called on the people to defend their homeland by cutting down trees, erecting barricades in the cities and attacking enemy columns from the rear. In recent days, authorities have issued weapons to civilians and taught them how to make Molotov cocktails.“Total resistance. … This is our Ukrainian trump card, and this is what we can do best in the world,” Oleksiy Arestovich, an aide to Zelenskyy, said in a video message, recalling guerrilla actions in Nazi-occupied Ukraine during World War II.At the second round of talks between Ukrainian and Russian delegations Thursday, Putin warned Ukraine that it must quickly accept the Kremlin’s demand for its “demilitarization” and declare itself neutral, renouncing its bid to join NATO.The two sides said that they tentatively agreed to allow cease-fires in areas designated safe corridors, and that they would seek to work out the necessary details quickly. A Zelenskyy adviser also said a third round of talks will be held early next week. The Pentagon set up a direct communication link to Russia’s Ministry of Defense earlier this week to avoid the possibility of a miscalculation sparking conflict between Moscow and Washington, according to a US defense official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the link had not been announced.

'Nuclear safety at plant is now guaranteed' Blaze out at Ukraine nuclear plant after Russian shelling sparks catastrophe fears-Zelensky says Russia only country to ever attack a nuclear plant, warns Putin’s ‘reckless’ actions ‘could now directly threaten the safety of all of Europe’; Calls for UN to meet-By Dmitry Zaks and Dmytro Gorshkov-MAR 4,22-Today, 9:06 am

KYIV — Russian troops attacked Europe’s largest nuclear power plant on Friday, setting part of the Ukrainian facility ablaze in an assault the country’s leader branded “nuclear terror” and said could endanger the continent. After hours of uncertainty throughout the night, local authorities reported the fire was extinguished at dawn. They had earlier reported that no immediate radiation rise was detected and “essential” equipment was unaffected. But it remained unclear what the invading forces planned next.President Volodymr Zelensky spoke with world leaders, including US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who called for a halt to fighting at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.Johnson accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of “reckless actions” that he said “could now directly threaten the safety of all of Europe”.The British leader will seek an emergency UN Security Council meeting in the coming hours, according to a statement from his office.Images on a live feed from the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant site earlier showed blasts lighting up the night sky and sending up plumes of smoke.Zelensky angrily denounced the attack, in a video message saying: “No country other than Russia has ever fired on nuclear power units.”“This is the first time in our history. In the history of mankind. The terrorist state now resorted to nuclear terror,” he added, calling for global help.“If there is an explosion, it is the end of everything. The end of Europe. This is the evacuation of Europe. Only immediate European action can stop Russian troops.”Despite the fears, after several hours of uncertainty, Ukrainian authorities said the site had been secured.“The director of the plant said that the nuclear safety is now guaranteed,” Oleksandr Starukh, head of the military administration of the Zaporizhzhia region, said on Facebook.“According to those responsible for the plant, a training building and a laboratory were affected by the fire,” he added. And the IAEA said it had been told by Ukraine’s regulator that “there has been no change reported in radiation levels” at the site.“Ukraine tells IAEA that fire at site of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has not affected ‘essential’ equipment, with plant personnel taking mitigatory actions,” the watchdog added in a tweet.US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm also tweeted that “the plant’s reactors are protected by robust containment structures and reactors are being safely shut down”.Give me planes-Russia has intensified strikes across the country during the nine days of conflict, with fresh reports of civilian casualties and devastating damage, particularly in southern areas near the first city to fall to Moscow’s troops. In a second round of talks held Thursday, Moscow agreed to a Ukrainian request for humanitarian corridors to allow terrified residents to flee, but there was no immediate clarity on how they would work, and no sign of any move towards a ceasefire.Zelensky called for direct talks with Putin, saying they were “the only way to stop this war”. But he also urged the West to step up military assistance and “give me planes.”Much of the international community has rallied behind Ukraine since Putin invaded, making Russia a global outcast in the worlds of finance, diplomacy, sport and culture. But the offensive has continued despite punishing international sanctions, and Putin said Thursday that his invasion was going “strictly according to schedule, according to plan.”He said Russia was rooting out “neo-Nazis,” adding in televised comments that he “will never give up on (his) conviction that Russians and Ukrainians are one people”.French President Emmanuel Macron, who spoke to Putin Thursday, believes “the worst is to come,” an aide said. While a long military column appears stalled north of Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, Russian troops have already seized Kherson, a Black Sea city of 290,000 people, after a three-day siege that left it short of food and medicine.Russian troops are also pressuring the port city of Mariupol east of Kherson, which is without water or electricity in the depths of winter.“They are trying to create a blockade here, just like in Leningrad,” Mariupol mayor Vadym Boichenko said, referring to the brutal Nazi siege of Russia’s second city, now re-named Saint Petersburg. In the northern city of Chernihiv, 33 people died Thursday when Russian forces hit residential areas, including schools and a high-rise apartment block. And Ukrainian authorities said residential areas in the eastern city of Kharkiv had been “pounded all night” by indiscriminate shelling, which UN prosecutors are investigating as a possible war crime. Many Ukrainians were digging in, with volunteers in industrial hub Dnipro making sandbags and collecting bottles for Molotov cocktails. In Lviv, others organized food and supplies to send to cities under attack and produced homemade anti-tank obstacles after watching YouTube tutorials.-Maybe it’s hell-But for some, the worst had already arrived.Oleg Rubak’s wife Katia, 29, was crushed in their family home in Zhytomyr, west of Kyiv, by a Russian missile strike.“One minute I saw her going into the bedroom. A minute later there was nothing,” Rubak, 32, told AFP amid the ruins in the bitter winter chill.“I hope she’s in heaven and all is perfect for her,” he said, in tears.Gesturing at the pile of rubble, he said what remained was “not even a room, it’s… maybe it’s hell.”The conflict has already produced more than one million refugees who have streamed into neighboring countries to be welcomed by volunteers handing them water, food and giving them medical treatment. Both the EU and the United States said they would approve temporary protection for all refugees fleeing the war.The fear of igniting all-out war with nuclear-armed Russia has put some limits on Western support for Ukraine, though a steady supply of weaponry and intelligence continues. The main lever used to pressure Russia globally has been sanctions, which have sent the ruble into free-fall and forced the central bank to impose a 30-percent tax on sales of hard currency after a run on lenders.Putin’s invasion has pushed some eastern European countries to lean even harder West, with both Georgia and Moldova applying for EU membership on Thursday. In Russia, authorities have imposed a media blackout on the fighting and two liberal media groups said they were halting operations, in another death-knell for independent reporting in the country. On Friday, Facebook and multiple media websites were partially inaccessible in Russia, as authorities crack down on voices criticizing the war.

Bomb attack at Shiite mosque in Pakistan kills at least 45-Blast in northwestern city of Peshawar wounds some 65 others, many of them critically; gunmen opened fire on worshippers before detonating device; no claim of responsibility-By RIAZ KHAN-MAR 4,22-Today, 1:50 pm

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — A powerful bomb exploded inside a Shiite Muslim mosque in Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar on Friday, killing at least 45 worshippers and wounding some 65 others, many of them critically, police said.Peshawar Police Chief Muhammed Ejaz Khan said the violence started when two armed attackers opened fire on police outside the mosque in Peshawar’s old city. One attacker and one policeman were killed in the gunfight, and another police official was wounded. The remaining attacker then ran inside the mosque and detonated a bomb.Local police official Waheed Khan said the explosion occurred as worshippers had gathered in the Kucha Risaldar mosque for Friday prayers. The death toll will likely rise as many of the wounded are in critical condition, he added.Ambulances rushed through congested narrow streets carrying the wounded to Lady Reading Hospital, where doctors worked feverishly. At least 150 worshippers were inside the mosque at the time of the explosion, witnesses said.No one immediately claimed responsibility for the blast, but both the Islamic State group and a violent Pakistani Taliban organization have carried out similar attacks in the region, located near the border with neighboring Afghanistan.Shayan Haider, a witness, had been preparing to enter the mosque when a powerful explosion threw him to the street.“I opened my eyes and there was dust and bodies everywhere,” he said.At the Lady Reading Hospital Emergency department, there was chaos as doctors struggled to move the many wounded into operating theaters. Hundreds of relatives gathered outside the emergency department, many of them wailing and beating their chests, pleading for information about their loved ones.Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the bombing.Retired army officer Sher Ali who had been inside the mosque at the time of the explosion was injured by flying shrapnel. He made an impassioned plea to the Pakistani government for better protection of the country’s minority Shiite Muslims.“What is our sin? What have we done? Aren’t we citizens of this country?” he said from within the emergency department, his white clothes splattered with blood. In majority Sunni Muslim Pakistan, minority Shiite Muslims have come under repeated attacks. In recent months Pakistan has experienced a broad increase in violence. Dozens of military personnel have been killed in scores of attacks on army outposts along the border with Afghanistan. Much has been claimed by the Pakistani Taliban, which analysts say have been emboldened by the Afghan Taliban’s return to power last August.Pakistan has urged Afghanistan’s new rulers to hand over Pakistani Taliban insurgents who have been staging their attacks from Afghanistan. Afghanistan’s Taliban say their territory will not be used to stage attacks against anyone, but until now they have not handed over any Pakistani insurgents.

Amid Ukraine invasion, Jerusalem court nixes transfer of Old City property to Russia-Judge rules only the government is able to decide on ownership of Alexander’s Courtyard, due to matter’s political and religious considerations-By TOI staff-MAR 3,22-Today, 5:01 pm

The Jerusalem District Court on Thursday annulled a decision giving the Russian government control of the prominent Alexander’s Courtyard church compound in the capital city, the Globes newspaper reported. The verdict was given following a petition by the Orthodox Palestine Society of the Holy Land, which owned the property until last year. The complex is located near the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem’s Old City.In 1859, Czar Alexander II purchased the land on which Alexander’s Court — also known as the Alexander Nevsky Church — was built. Until the Russian Revolution of 1917, the area was under the control of the Russian Imperial government.Former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved giving Alexander’s Courtyard to Russia in 2020. The move was seen as a goodwill gesture following Russia’s release of Naama Issachar, an Israeli woman who was imprisoned after a small quantity of marijuana was found in her backpack during a layover in Moscow. After the Russian government was registered as the rightful owner of the church, the Land Registry Commissioner responded to a string of appeals against the move, explaining that the Russian Federation had been recognized by international bodies and by the State of Israel as a “continuing state” of the Russian Empire. In his ruling on the appeal Thursday, Judge Mordechai Kaduri ruled that since Netanyahu had designated Alexander’s Courtyard as a “holy site,” the only body able to decide on the matter is the Israeli government, given various religious and political considerations.Prime Minister Naftali Bennett set up a panel on the issue last July, but it has yet to convene. The court decision comes amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Israel, which enjoys close ties with both countries, has largely refrained from condemning Moscow, apparently due to concerns Moscow could limit the IDF’s ability to act against Iranian-linked targets in Syria, where Russia maintains a military presence.

Interior minister predicts tens of thousands of new immigrants from Ukraine, Russia-Ayelet Shaked orders 3-month suspension of need for a police background check on those fleeing the conflict, says wave of arrivals will be sent to boost Negev communities-By TOI staff-mar 3,22-Today, 3:42 pm

Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked said Israel believes a huge number of Jewish refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine could immigrate to Israel and instructed her office on Thursday to allow them to move to Israel without the need for a police background check.“We think tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of immigrants will arrive from Russia, Ukraine, and former Soviet states,” Shaked said Thursday during a conference with local council leaders at the Golan Regional Council. The interior minister said that next month the government will make a decision to set up seven to 12 new communities in the southern Negev region of the country.Shaked said the new communities will bolster the Negev and will be necessary to absorb the expected wave of new immigrants.Noting that there is a national housing crisis, she asked: “What will happen when new immigrants reach us from Ukraine and Russia?”“Even though we’re at full throttle now, we’ll need [to build] even more [homes]” requiring “aggressive and rapid” construction to accommodate the mass arrivals, she said.Shaked later tweeted that she had ordered a three-month suspension on the requirement for a notarized police background check for immigrants from Russia and Ukraine to ease their immigration to Israel.“Whoever wants to immigrate to Israel can do it fast,” she wrote. The Ministerial Committee for Immigration and Absorption is slated to hold a meeting about the situation in Ukraine on Monday, Army Radio reported.Diaspora Minister Nachman Shai told Army Radio on Thursday that so far 350 Ukrainians have reached Israel, six of whom were rejected due to some aspect of their past.He said the government needs to formulate a proper policy “in order to bring in those people without relatives or friends in Israel as well. The Jewish Agency has received thousands of inquiries from Ukrainian citizens in recent days about immigrating to Israel after Russia invaded Ukraine last week, setting off a conflict that has cost at least hundreds of lives, likely thousands. The Jewish Agency, a semi-governmental body that is responsible for encouraging and overseeing immigration to Israel, or aliyah, has been working to facilitate the expected wave of migration from Ukraine to Israel in light of the Russian offensive, including setting up emergency hotlines to answer questions about the immigration process.Ukraine has about 43,300 people who self-identify as Jews and about 200,000 eligible to immigrate to Israel under its Law of Return for Jews and their relatives, according to a 2020 demographic study of European Jewry.Shortly before Russia’s invasion, dozens of new immigrants from Ukraine arrived in Israel. Some 300 new Jewish immigrants who had fled from Ukraine are scheduled to reach Israel on Sunday.According to Israel’s Law of Return, Jews and their children, grandchildren, and spouses are eligible for citizenship.Israel tried to send back 14 Ukrainian immigrants saying they were not eligible to enter under the Law of Return, Channel 12 News reported Monday.Israel has rarely granted refugee status to non-Jews in the past, and has not granted it to thousands of asylum seekers from Africa who arrived in the mid to late 2000s.Tens of thousands of Ukrainian asylum-seekers came to Israel following the 2014 war with Russia. Most came as tourists and tried to stay as refugees, but few were actually granted refugee status.

EZEKIEL 38:1-23
1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog,(RULER) the land of Magog,(RUSSIA) the chief prince of Meshech (MOSCOW) and Tubal,(TOBOLSK) and prophesy against him,
3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog,(LEADER OF RUSSIA) the chief prince of Meshech(MOSCOW) and Tubal:TOBOLSK)
4 And I (GOD) will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws,(GOD FORCES THE RUSSIA-MUSLIMS TO MARCH) and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:
5 Persia,(IRAN,IRAQ) Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:
6 Gomer,(GERMANY) and all his bands; the house of Togarmah (TURKEY) of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee.(AFRICAN MUSLIMS,SUDAN,TUNESIA ETC)
7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.
8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.
9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.(RUSSIA-EGYPT AND MUSLIMS)
10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
11 And thou shalt say,(RUSSIA-ARAB-MUSLIMS) I will go up to the land of unwalled villages;(ISRAEL) I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
12 To take a spoil,(OIL IS IN SPOIL) and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.
13  Sheba, and Dedan,(SAUDI-ARABIA) and the merchants of Tarshish,(SPAIN) with all the young lions thereof,(ENGLAND,AND ALL ITS ASSOCIATES-CANADA,AUSTRALIA-NEW ZEALAND, USA, AND WESTERN ENGLISH SPEAKING NATIONS) shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?(OIL IS IN SPOIL-I BELIEVE THATS WHY RUSSIA,ARAB/MUSLIMS MARCH TO ISRAEL)
14  Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it?
15  And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army:
16  And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.
17  Thus saith the Lord GOD; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them?
18  And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, that my fury shall come up in my face.
19  For in my jealousy and in the fire (atomic bomb) of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel;
20  So that the fishes of the    sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.
21  And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord GOD: every man’s sword shall be against his brother.
22  And I will plead against him with pestilence (biological, chemical, nuclear) and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.(NUKED,THEN MIGRATING BIRDS EAT RUSSIA/ARAB/MUSLIMS FLESH)
23  Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the LORD.

EZEKIEL 39:1-29
1 Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog,(LEADER OF RUSSIA) and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech (MOSCOW) and Tubal: (TUBOLSK)
2 And I will turn thee back,(RUSSIA-ARAB MUSLIM ISRAEL HATERS) and leave but the sixth part of thee,(5/6TH OR 300 MILLION DEAD RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIMS I BELIEVE) and will cause thee to come up from the north parts,(RUSSIA) and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.
4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands,( ARABS) and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
6 And I will send a shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog (RUSSIA/ARAB/MUSLIMS) a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers (EAST OF THE DEAD SEA IN JORDAN VALLEY) on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog (RUSSIAN) and all his multitude:(ARAB/MUSLIM HORDE) and they shall call it The valley of Hamongog.(BURIEL SITE OF THE 300 MILLION,RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIMS)
12 And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land.(OF ISRAEL)
13 Yea, all the people of the land (OF ISRAEL) shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I (GOD-JESUS) shall be glorified, saith the Lord GOD.
14 And they shall sever out men of continual employment,(NUCLEAR ATOMIC BOMB EXPERTS) passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search.
15 And the passengers that pass through the land, when any seeth a man’s bone, then shall he set up a sign by it,(WON'T TOUCH IT) till the buriers have buried it (PROPERLY) in the valley of Hamongog.(RUSSIA/ARAB/MUSLIMS NEW BURIEL SITE)(EAST OF THE DEAD SEA IN THE JORDAN VALLEY)
16 And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the land.(OF THE ISRAEL-GOD HATERS)
17 And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl,(500 MILLION MIGRATING BIRDS THREW ISRAEL EVERY SPRING,FALL) and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.(OF THE RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIM ARMIES)
18 Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.
19 And ye (MIGRATING BIRDS IN ISRAEL) shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you.(RUSSIAN/ARAB/MUSLIM ISRAEL HATERS)
20 Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD.
21 And I (GOD-JESUS) will set my glory among the heathen,(WORLD NATIONS) and all the heathen (WORLD NATIONS) shall see my judgment that I have executed,(AGAINST ISRAELS ENEMIES) and my (GODS) hand that I have laid upon them.(ISRAELS HATER ENEMIES)
22  So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.
23  And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.
24  According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done unto them, and hid my face from them.
25  Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name;
26  After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid.
27  When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations;
28  Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.
29  Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.

NBC News-1 million flee Ukraine as Russian assault targets key cities, fuels exodus-Rachel Elbaum and Anastasiia Parafeniuk-Thu, March 3, 2022, 4:51 AM

One million people have fled Ukraine in a rapid exodus after a week of war, with Russia’s military bombarding key cities across the country in an effort to overcome staunch resistance to their invasion. The conflict has fueled a growing humanitarian crisis in Europe and left those who have remained in Ukraine facing an intensifying assault from the air and ground. But the mileslong Russian military convoy threatening the Ukrainian capital has made little progress over the last three days, with Russian forces struggling to overcome fierce defense and their own logistical issues in their northern advance. They appear to have had more success in the south, with two key port cities struggling to hold out.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on his countrymen to keep up their resistance, while branding Russian soldiers “children who are being used.”The Kremlin's international isolation grew on Wednesday when the United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly in favor of a resolution denouncing its invasion and calling for the end of hostilities in Ukraine.Latest developments on Ukraine:1 million people have fled the war in Ukraine in the week since the invasion began, according to the U.N.Russia's long military convoy stalled 18 miles outside KyivTwo key port cities in Ukraine's south were struggling to hold out amid fierce Russian attacks.Russia said nearly 500 of its troops have been killed, but the actual number is likely considerably higher, Western officials say. From the central capital, Kyiv, to Kharkiv in the northeast and Kherson in the south, Russia’s advances have brought destruction to major cities and civilian areas. The bombardment of Ukrainian cities has pushed residents to flee for neighboring countries and displaced many more inside the country of 44 million people.“I have worked in refugee emergencies for almost 40 years, and rarely have I seen an exodus as rapid as this one,” Filippo Grandi, the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, said in a statement issued Thursday.Residential areas of several cities came under attack early Thursday, according to an update from the Ukrainian military posted on Facebook.Kharkiv, the country's second-largest city, and surrounding towns came under particularly heavy shelling on Wednesday and into Thursday. In the last 24 hours, 34 people died and 285 were injured in the region, including 10 children, the interior ministry said in a statement.Russia has consistently denied targeting civilians. The strategic port city of Mariupol remained in Ukrainian hands, according to the Ukrainian military statement, despite days of intense Russian attacks. The statement did not mention Kherson, further along the coast on the Dnieper river, where it was unclear who was in control of the city.In the latest update from the city’s mayor late Wednesday, he said there had been “armed visitors in the city council building,” but insisted the Ukrainian flag was still flying.Nearly 20 miles outside Kyiv, Russia’s military column stood largely in place, with both mechanical breakdowns and the Ukrainian defense delaying its advance, according to British military intelligence. "The column has made little discernible progress in over three days," the country's defense ministry said on Twitter."The enemy is trying to break through to the capital. But Ukrainian defenders hold the defense and stop the occupiers on the outskirts of the capital," Mayor Vitali Klitschko said in an update on Telegram.Shells landed overnight in residential areas damaging homes and cars, but not causing any casualties, he said.Russia reported military casualties for the first time since it launched the invasion of its democratic neighbor last week, saying nearly 500 of its troops had been killed and almost 1,600 wounded. In line with Ukrainian estimates, two Western officials told NBC News that about 5,800 Russians have been killed. One U.S. official, however, cautioned that the estimates are extremely difficult to pin down in the fog of war and have ranged from as low as 500 to more than 5,000.NBC News has not confirmed the numbers of any deaths from the conflict.

China denies it demanded Russia wait to invade until after Winter Olympics-Beijing calls New York Times report that it had advance knowledge of Moscow’s Ukraine war plans ‘fake news’By AFP-mar 3,22-Today, 3:21 pm

BEIJING, China — China on Thursday denied a New York Times report that it asked Russia to delay its invasion of Ukraine until after the Beijing Winter Olympics. The New York Times reported on Wednesday that Chinese officials had told senior Russian officials not to invade Ukraine before the end of the Winter Olympics, citing senior officials in the  Biden administration as well as a European official. The report said Beijing had some level of direct knowledge about Russia’s war plans or intentions before the invasion started last week, four days after the Olympics closing ceremony. In Beijing, a Foreign Ministry spokesman dismissed the report.“The New York Times report is complete fake news. These kinds of diversionary, blame-shifting remarks are thoroughly despicable,” said foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin.Beijing has not condemned the invasion of Ukraine but has stopped short of outright support. In the weeks leading up to the February 24 invasion, Chinese state media repeatedly dismissed Western warnings as US hype and did not evacuate its citizens from Ukraine.-Russian President Vladimir Putin was the first world leader to meet Xi in nearly two years and was a guest of honor at the Winter Games opening ceremony. The United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday overwhelmingly adopted a resolution condemning Moscow’s invasion, which demanded that Russia “immediately” withdraw from Ukraine.China was among 35 countries that abstained, while just five — Eritrea, North Korea, Syria, Belarus and Russia — voted against it.

IAEA urges Russia to ‘cease actions’ at forcibly seized Ukraine nuclear sites-UN nuclear watchdog passes resolution deploring Moscow’s activity in Ukraine and ‘other violent actions,’ including taking control of Chernobyl disaster site-By AFP-mar 3,22-Today, 3:54 pm

VIENNA, Austria — The UN nuclear watchdog passed a resolution on Thursday urging Russia to “cease all actions” at Ukraine’s nuclear facilities, including the site of the Chernobyl disaster, after it invaded the country. The resolution at the board of the governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) also “deplores the Russian Federation’s actions in Ukraine, including forcefully seizing control of nuclear facilities and other violent actions,” according to a copy of the text sent to AFP.A diplomatic source said the resolution passed by a large majority, with 28 countries in favor and only Russia and China voting against.Senegal, South Africa, Vietnam, Pakistan and India abstained, according to the source.Ukraine has four active nuclear power plants, providing about half the country’s electricity, as well as stores of nuclear waste such as the one at Chernobyl.Poland and Canada had requested the meeting, which began on Wednesday, and proposed the resolution.Chernobyl was the site of the worst nuclear accident in history in 1986 and last Thursday the site fell to Russian troops. On Wednesday, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi called for an immediate end to the conflict at the meeting, saying this was “the best action to ensure the safety and security of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities.”

Turkey walks a diplomatic tightrope between warring allies Russia and Ukraine-Ankara has bought Russian weapons and depends on it for energy sources, but has also sold military drones to Ukraine, its closest regional post-Soviet ally-By Fulya Ozerkan-mar 3,22-Today, 4:07 pm

ISTANBUL, Turkey (AFP) — The signs of Russian presence have long been visible in Turkey, from rows of tourists on Antalya beaches to the Russian battleships ploughing their way through the Bosphorus.President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has worked hard to forge close ties with his counterpart Vladimir Putin, despite being on opposing sides of several conflicts, including in Syria and Libya.Ankara has bought Russian missile defense systems against the wishes of its NATO partners and is dependent on Moscow for energy and trade. The two nations even managed to leave behind a crisis sparked by the downing of Russian military jet by Turkey in 2015.But now, Erdogan finds himself in a delicate balancing act.Ukraine is Turkey’s closest post-Soviet ally in the region, and Ankara wants to show solidarity without triggering the full-blown ire of Moscow.Erdogan visited Kyiv only last month to ink a deal on expanding drone production in Ukraine. The use of Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drones in the war has been a clear source of tension with Russia.Ukrainian Bayraktar TB2 airstrike-Video source https://t.co/fmxMKITUK8 pic.twitter.com/KIfVSy4jAG- MilitaryAviationInUa (@Ukraine_AF) February 27, 2022-For some analysts, Turkey’s position is clearer than it might seem.“Turkey is actually not balancing between Russia and Ukraine. Turkey is actively supporting Ukraine and pivoting away from Russia,” Ozgur Unluhisarcikli of the German Marshall Fund told AFP.“Turkey is treading carefully so as not to attract Russian retribution,” he said.‘Skillful diplomacy’Turkey depends on Russia for energy supplies, importing 44 percent of its gas from Russia last year.Russians also made up 19% (4.7 million) of the country’s foreign visitors last year.-Such factors have led Erdogan to insist he will “not abandon either Russia or Ukraine.”Turkey has offered to host talks between their leaders and has refused to join sanctions against Moscow, abstaining during a vote at the Council of Europe. But it also blocked warships from using the key Bosphorus and Dardanelles waterways that Russia needs to access the Black Sea from the Mediterranean.Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Tuesday that Ankara denied access to three Russian warships through the straits on February 27-28, because they were not registered to Black Sea bases. This was not a major blow to Russia, said Turkey analyst Anthony Skinner, since Russia’s Black Sea Fleet was already deployed in the campaign.“The fact that Turkey has not closed its airspace to, or imposed sanctions on, Russia shows how concerned Ankara has been not to trigger a costly breach in relations with Moscow,” he said.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, left, and Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan walk ahead of their meeting in Kyiv, Ukraine, Feb. 3, 2022. (Ukrainian Presidential Press Office via AP)Sinan Ulgen of the Istanbul-based EDAM think tank praised Ankara’s “skillful diplomacy” and said limiting access to its waterways was “not a sanction against Russia” but a “very firm position” in applying an international treaty.Turkey is bound to block access to battleships in time of war under the 1936 Montreux Convention.‘Vulnerabilities’And despite its desire to help Ukraine, Turkey is vulnerable in other areas.“Turkey and Russia have unresolved issues in Syria, Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh which means that if Turkey goes too far with this policy, Russia can exploit Turkey’s vulnerabilities,” said Unluhisarcikli. This is a particular problem for Erdogan as he fixates on the presidential elections in 2023, Skinner added. But it could also be an opportunity.“While Erdogan will not throw all his eggs in one basket, this crisis could offer an opening to at least partially mend some of the many fences that have been damaged with the West,” Skinner said.“The big question is what Washington and other Western capitals have to offer. What is on the table for Turkey?”Erdogan has already called on the EU to treat his country with the same concern as it does Ukraine, without waiting for it to be “hit by a war.”“It required a catastrophe for that… Turkey won’t wait for a catastrophe.”

'Wars are easy to start and very difficult to finish' Bennett calls on global powers to avert ‘total destruction’ in Ukraine-PM says world leaders have a ‘responsibility’ to bring Kyiv, Moscow to the negotiating table; Netanyahu calls for end to ‘bloodshed,’ proposes absorbing Ukrainian tech workers-By Carrie Keller-Lynn-mar 3,22-Today, 2:30 pm

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett warned that Ukraine faces “total destruction” if world leaders don’t act quickly amid Russia’s invasion of the country.“Things are looking bad on the ground right now, but it’s important to understand that if world leaders don’t act quickly, it can get much worse,” he said at Tel Aviv’s CyberTech conference. “I’m talking about untold loss of life, total destruction of Ukraine. Millions of refugees. And it’s not too late.”“It’s the responsibility of the major players in the world to get the two sides out of the battlefield and on to the negotiation table,” he added.Bennett has spoken at least twice with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin and offered Israel’s service as an intermediary since the conflict broke out, in line with a request from Zelensky.“I participated in five or six different conflicts as a soldier, a commander and later on as a security cabinet member. It’s just a horrible thing,” Bennett said. “We in Israel have had our fair share of wars, and I can tell you one big lesson: Wars are easy to start and very difficult to finish.”While the war rages on, Israel should open its borders to all Ukrainian refugees, said opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu, also addressing CyberTech.“I fully support giving short-term visas, or as long as is necessary, visas for non-Jews in Ukraine who want to find refuge in Israel,” the former prime minister said. While Israel has accepted Ukrainian refugees, the Interior Ministry has been demanding deposits of several thousand shekels from the family members of Ukrainians who don’t have standing in the country, which they say is a measure against the refuge-seekers potentially overstaying their welcome.Israel and Ukraine’s tech economies are highly intertwined, with many Israeli companies employing Ukraine-based development teams.“We have now tens of thousands of programmers in Ukraine, some say it is up to 50,000. If we don’t find a solution to that problem, Israeli high-tech, and cyber with it, will hit a brick wall,” said Netanyahu.Netanyahu proposed providing Israeli visas for tech workers fleeing the conflict.“We have to find a solution and our best solution is to include [Ukrainian employees of Israeli companies] in the people that we offer visas and refuge to,” he said.“An alternative would be to have neighboring countries like Poland, Romania, and Bulgaria [take them in and] to make international arrangements to have these people stay there and continue to work for us.”Netanyahu also recalled Israel’s commitment to absorb Ukrainian Jews who want to immigrate to Israel, reportedly now in the thousands.“We in Israel have a personal, specific vested value in helping the Jews in Ukraine who want to immigrate to Israel to do so, that is to come to Israel, the homeland of all the Jewish people,” Netanyahu said.Regarding the conflict itself, Netanyahu did not mention Russia by name, but said: “I think everything should be done and every effort should be made to stop the tragedy and bloodshed in Ukraine.”

Welcome to Berlin’: Ukrainian refugees pour into Germany by the thousands-Volunteers greet new arrivals with food, medical aid and guidance as city braces for an expected influx of 20,000; at least 5,000 have already reached Germany-By Yannick Pasquet-mar 3,22-Today, 12:27 pm

BERLIN, Germany (AFP) — The loudspeaker announcement is nearly drowned out by the hubbub of passengers spilling out of the train from Warsaw, but it’s a message many of them have been longing to hear: “Dear passengers from Ukraine, welcome to Berlin!”Just over a week after Russia launched an attack on Ukraine, the trickle of war refugees arriving in Germany has swelled into a steady stream.“The situation has changed dramatically,” said Katja Kipping, senator for social affairs in the city state of Berlin. On Tuesday evening alone, 1,300 refugees arrived in the German capital by train.Mayor Franziska Giffey expects Berlin, less than 100 kilometers from Ukraine’s western neighbor Poland, to take in at least 20,000 Ukrainians in the weeks ahead, and his city is urgently preparing emergency accommodation.Germany’s interior ministry has officially registered more than 5,000 Ukrainian refugees so far. But given the absence of border checks between Poland and Germany, the real number is likely higher. At Berlin’s central train station, Ukrainian women and children make up the bulk of those arriving from Poland, having left behind husbands, fathers and sons to join the fight against the advance of Russian troops.Among the newcomers is Nathalia Lypka, a German professor from the eastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia who fled with her 21-year-old daughter.-‘Scared’“We met up in Lviv,” she told AFP, resting on a wooden bench set up by volunteers in a corner of the vast railway station, one of Europe’s busiest.“My daughter was in Kyiv, it was terrible, she was scared and had to take shelter in the metro station” to protect herself from the shelling, she said.“My husband and son stayed… My husband already served in the army and he had to return to duty,” she added.Lypka and her daughter plan to board a train for Stuttgart next, where friends are waiting to take them in. “We thank Europe for its support,” she added.-Free tickets-Although the Ukrainian influx pales in comparison with the hundreds of thousands of Syrians and Iraqis who fled their conflict-torn countries for Germany in 2015-2016, the scenes of refugees being greeted by volunteer welcome committees are remarkably similar. At the Berlin station, volunteers clad in yellow high-visibility jackets hand out bananas, bread rolls and water bottles to new arrivals. Some carry stickers on their chests that say they speak Russian or Ukrainian. Others help bewildered newcomers plan onward journeys, making use of rail operator Deutsche Bahn’s offer of free travel for Ukrainians.Nearby, volunteers folding blankets and clothes briefly pause to accept a German woman’s donation of anti-coronavirus face masks.Elsewhere in the station, the Red Cross is on hand to administer first aid to the refugees, or arrange hospital transport for those requiring more serious care.“A lot of people arrive here exhausted, they have headaches” and other pains, said Nicolas Schoenemann, who oversees a team of five Red Cross workers.Among those coming from Ukraine are also a significant number of people originally from Africa. Before Russia’s invasion, Ukraine was home to some 16,000 African students, according to Liubov Abravitova, the Ukrainian ambassador to South Africa.Cameroonian Aurelien Kaze was studying economics in Ukraine’s second city Kharkiv, which has been hit by Russian shelling.“We heard the bombardments, there was panic everywhere,” he said, waiting to board a train bound for Brussels where he has relatives. The 25-year-old considers himself lucky to have had a smooth border crossing between Ukraine and Poland, following reports of racist behavior by border guards against Africans.Kaze said it appears to have gone “a little easier” for him than for some others. “They checked my papers,” he recalls, and he was waved through.

Putin vows ‘uncompromising fight’ as 1st Ukrainian city falls, war enters 2nd week-Russia announces takeover of city of Kherson, population 280,000; heavy fighting on outskirts of strategic port city of Mariupol; Russia’s 40-mile -long convoy stalled outside Kyiv-By Agencies-MAAR 3,22-Today, 5:10 pm

KYIV — Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed no let-up in his invasion of Ukraine on Thursday, even as the warring sides met for ceasefire talks and Kyiv appealed for relief supplies to reach battered cities. The Russian military announced Thursday that it had taken control of Kherson, and local Ukrainian officials confirmed that Putin’s forces have taken over local government headquarters in this Black Sea port of 280,000 people, making it the first major city to fall since the start of the war.Elsewhere, the Russians pressed their offensive on multiple fronts. Heavy fighting continued on the outskirts of another strategic port city on the Azov Sea, Mariupol, plunging it into darkness, isolation and fear. Electricity and phone connections were largely down, and homes and shops are facing food and water shortages.Overnight explosions heard by Associated Press reporters in the capital, Kyiv, were missiles being shot down by Ukraine’s air defense systems, according to the city’s mayor. Russia’s 40-mile-long (64-kilometer-long) convoy of tanks and other vehicles remains stalled outside Kyiv, which has been struck by deadly shelling.Russian forces have also been bombarding the country’s second-biggest city, Kharkiv. After the fall of a first major Ukrainian city to Russian forces, Putin appeared in no mood to heed a global clamor for an end to hostilities as the war entered its second week.Borodyanka. ???????? pic.twitter.com/d04f5kkzH2— Visegrád 24 (@visegrad24) March 2, 2022“Russia intends to continue the uncompromising fight against militants of nationalist armed groups,” Putin said, according to a Kremlin account of a call with French President Emmanuel Macron. But Ukraine insisted that corridors for medical and other supplies were the bare minimum it expected, as negotiators arrived for the talks at an undisclosed location on the Belarus-Poland border.A first round of talks on Monday yielded no breakthrough, and Kyiv says it will not accept any Russian “ultimatums.”Putin, however, said any attempts to slow the talks process would “only lead to additional demands on Kyiv in our negotiating position.”For his part, Macron said he feared that “worse is to come” in the conflict and condemned Putin’s “lies,” according to an aide. The invasion, now in its eighth day, has created a refugee exodus and turned Russia into a global pariah in the worlds of finance, diplomacy and sports. The UN has opened a probe into alleged war crimes, as the Russian military bombards cities in Ukraine with shells and missiles, forcing civilians to cower in basements.“We will restore every house, every street, every city and we say to Russia: learn the word ‘reparations,'” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video statement.“You will reimburse us for everything you did against our state, against every Ukrainian, in full,” he said.‘Just like Leningrad’Zelensky claims thousands of Russian soldiers have been killed since Putin shocked the world by invading Ukraine, purportedly to demilitarize and “denazify” a Western-leaning threat on his borders.Moscow says it has lost 498 troops and Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Putin would praise their sacrifice at a meeting with his security chiefs.“It’s a huge tragedy,” Peskov told reporters in Moscow.“But we also admire the heroism of our soldiers. Their exploits will enter into the history books, their exploits in the struggle against the Nazis.”The Kremlin has been condemned for likening the government of Zelensky, who is Jewish, to that of Germany in World War II.But Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov kept up a verbal barrage, accusing Western politicians of fixating on “nuclear war” after Putin placed his strategic forces on high alert. While a long military column appears stalled north of Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, Russian troops seized Kherson, a Black Sea city of 290,000 people, after a three-day siege that left it short of food and medicine.Russian troops have been advancing elsewhere on the southern front and are besieging the port city of Mariupol east of Kherson, which is without water or electricity in the depths of winter.“They are trying to create a blockade here, just like in Leningrad,” Mariupol mayor Vadym Boichenko said, referring to the siege of Russia’s second-largest city, since renamed Saint Petersburg, by Nazi Germany’s invading army in World War II.Ukrainian military authorities said residential and other areas in the eastern city of Kharkiv had been “pounded all night” by indiscriminate shelling, which UN prosecutors are investigating as a possible war crime.Oleg Rubak’s wife Katia, 29, was crushed in the rubble of their family home in Zhytomyr, west of Kyiv, by a Russian missile strike.“One minute I saw her going into the bedroom. A minute later there was nothing,” Rubak, 32, told AFP, standing stunned and angry amid the ruins in the bitter winter chill.“I hope she’s in heaven and all is perfect for her,” he said, adding through tears, “I want the whole world to hear my story.”-Junk status-The war has displaced more than one million people, according to the United Nations. The body’s aid chief pleaded on Thursday for civilians in Ukraine to be protected and for humanitarian aid to enter unhindered. “Protect civilians, for God’s sake, in Ukraine; let us do our job,” emergency relief coordinator Martin Griffiths told AFP in Geneva. The UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency urged Russia to “cease all actions” at Ukraine’s nuclear facilities, including the site of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster.Putin now finds himself an international outcast, his country the subject of sweeping sanctions that sent the ruble into further freefall on currency markets on Thursday.Russia’s central bank — whose foreign reserves have been frozen in the West — imposed a 30 percent tax on all sales of hard currency, following a run on lenders by ordinary Russians. The unfolding financial costs were underlined as ratings agencies Fitch and Moody’s slashed Russia’s sovereign debt to “junk” status.Turmoil deepened on markets more broadly. European stocks slid and oil prices approached $120 per barrel.Swedish furniture giant Ikea became the latest to halt operations in Russia as well as Belarus.Russia’s sporting isolation worsened as it lost the right to host Formula One races. And the International Paralympic Committee, in a U-turn, banned Russians and Belarusians from the Beijing Winter Games. The UN General Assembly voted 141-5 to demand that Russia “immediately” withdraw from Ukraine. Only four countries supported Russia — Belarus, Eritrea, North Korea and Syria. China abstained.Europe stepped up practical support as well as diplomatic. The German government is planning to deliver another 2,700 anti-aircraft missiles to Ukraine, a source said.Leaving everything behind-Many Ukrainians have now fled into nearby countries, according to the UN refugee agency’s rapidly rising tally.“We left everything there as they came and ruined our lives,” refugee Svitlana Mostepanenko told AFP in Prague.Nathalia Lypka, a professor of German from the eastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia, arrived in Berlin with her 21-year-old daughter.“My husband and son stayed… My husband already served in the army, and he had to return to duty,” she said, before boarding a train for Stuttgart where friends were waiting.Putin’s invasion has appeared hamstrung by poor logistics, tactical blunders and fierce resistance from Ukraine’s outgunned military — as well as its ever-swelling ranks of volunteer fighters.Scores of images have emerged of burned-out Russian tanks, the charred remains of transporters and of unarmed Ukrainians confronting bewildered occupation forces.US officials say the massive column of Russian military vehicles amassed north of Kyiv has “stalled” due to fuel and food shortages.Russian authorities have imposed a media blackout on what the Kremlin euphemistically calls a “special military operation.”The Ekho Moskvy radio station — a symbol of new-found media freedom in post-Soviet Russia — said it would shut down after being taken off air over its invasion coverage. But Russians have still turned out for large anti-war protests across the country, in a direct challenge to Putin’s 20-year rule. Thousands of anti-war demonstrators have been detained.“I couldn’t stay at home. This war has to be stopped,” student Anton Kislov, 21, told AFP.

Russian envoy to Israel claims nation not out to conquer Ukraine, rails at fake news-Anatoly Viktorov slams media coverage he says is trying to portray Russia and Putin as ‘monstrous,’ particularly regarding deadly strike in Kyiv near Babyn Yar Holocaust memorial-By TOI staff-MAR 3,22-Today, 5:13 pm

The Russian ambassador to Israel claimed on Thursday that his country is not seeking to conquer Ukraine and decries “fake news” about Russia’s invasion of its western neighbor.“We are only acting against those who took Ukraine hostage,” Ambassador Anatoly Viktorov said at a press briefing. He maintained that the Russian army was not targeting civilians.“There is incitement to hatred towards Russians all over the world. Everything we say is immediately defined as propaganda. Russian media were blocked in the West and Ukraine.”He refused to clearly answer questions regarding the violent crackdowns and arrests of anti-war protestors in Russia.Viktorov asked the Israeli government to examine the possibility that efforts of the Ukrainian embassy in Israel to recruit volunteers “constitute a violation of Israeli law or of Israel’s international obligations.”In addition, he referred to the Israeli-Russian so-called deconfliction in Syria and said that “it is in the common interest of Russia and Israel to continue the coordination mechanism in Syria.”He railed against media coverage that he says is trying to portray Russia and its leader Vladimir Putin as “monstrous,” particularly regarding a deadly strike in Kyiv near the Babyn Yar Holocaust memorial earlier this week. The strike did not appear to cause any direct damage to the memorial itself, though at least one missile struck a crop of buildings in a Jewish cemetery located in the Babyn Yar complex.Ukrainian emergencies service said that five people were killed and five were injured in the missile strike. The attack sparked a flurry of outrage and denunciations from Israel and international Jewish organizations.“Ukraine claimed we bombed the Babyn Yar memorial. This is fake news,” Viktorov said.Asked how Russia claims to carry out a “denazification” of Ukraine, whose president Volodymyr Zelensky is Jewish, Viktorov replied: “The Ukrainian government supports neo-Nazis.”

Politics-Trudeau ends use of Emergencies Act, says 'situation is no longer an emergency'-Prime minister says inquiry into the deployment of the law will begin within 60 days-Nick Boisvert · CBC News · Posted: Feb 23, 2022 3:59 PM ET |

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is revoking the use of the Emergencies Act, the powerful legislative tool that was deployed in response to protests and blockades that erupted in Ottawa and at border crossings over recent weeks."The situation is no longer an emergency," Trudeau told a news conference."We are confident that existing laws and bylaws are now sufficient to keep people safe."The Governor General signed off on the revocation on Wednesday afternoon, which formally ended the state of emergency.MPs in the House of Commons voted to affirm use of the act on Monday. The Senate was in the midst of debating the act on Wednesday but withdrew the motion shortly after Trudeau made his announcement. The government's decision to invoke the act on Monday, Feb. 14 became a source of considerable controversy and criticism. The act had never been used since it was passed by Parliament in 1988.The introduction of the act gave authorities sweeping temporary powers, including the ability to freeze the bank accounts and credit cards of protesters. Attending any event deemed an unlawful assembly, such as the Ottawa convoy protest, also became illegal.Trudeau has described his decision to use the act as a last resort."As the weeks went by, it became obvious that provincial and local authorities needed more tools in order to enforce the law and protect Canadians. And that's exactly what the Emergencies Act provided," he said."It was the responsible and necessary thing to do."Ottawa police said the act helped them end the convoy protest. The act made it possible for officers from outside of Ontario to participate in the operation.Trudeau said the decision to end the act's use was made after consulting with police services across Canada, which told the government they can prevent further disruptions under normal laws.An inquiry into the government's decision to invoke the act and subsequent police actions will begin within 60 days, Trudeau confirmed. He said Parliamentarians will establish a committee to oversee that review next week. Most bank accounts frozen under the Emergencies Act are being released, committee hears-Conservative senator says 'friendly ... patriotic' Ottawa protesters have been demonized-Conservatives say decision proves 'the PM was wrong' The Conservatives and Bloc Québécois voted against the use of the act in the House of Commons, arguing that it constituted government overreach. Other critics, including the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA), have said the use of the act was unnecessary because the protests were not a legitimate national emergency."Today's announcement is proof that the prime minister was wrong when he invoked the Emergencies Act," said Conservative interim leader Candice Bergen in a media statement."Nothing has changed between Monday and today other than a flood of concerns from Canadian citizens, bad press, and international ridicule."Alberta Premier Jason Kenney says his government will proceed with a court challenge of the federal government's use of the Emergencies Act.He calls the decision to end the act's deployment a "humiliation" for those who supported it.Alberta to proceed with Emergencies Act challenge despite it being lifted: Kenney-The CCLA last week also announced a lawsuit against the government over its use of the act. The organization said it is now deciding if it will continue with its challenge."Even though the orders are no longer in force, Canadians are left with the precedent that the government's actions have set," the CCLA said in a statement. The NDP, which threw its support behind the motion and ensured its adoption under the minority government, welcomed Trudeau's decision to revoke."We said from the beginning that it should be revoked as soon as it was no longer needed. We're glad to see that has been done," NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said in a statement. With files from the Canadian Press.
