A poll published Wednesday found a large share of Israelis do not have faith that upcoming election results will be accurate.The monthly Israeli Voice Index by the Israel Democracy Institute found that 39% of Israelis — the second highest rate ever counted by the study — believe the published election results will not properly reflect the public’s vote.When broken down according to ethnicity, the study found that 36% of Jewish Israelis do not trust election results, while a majority of 51.5% of Arab Israelis do not believe the votes will be tallied accurately.The highest rate of distrust, 44%, was recorded in August 2019, a month before the second round of a series of elections held.In March 2021, shortly before the last round of elections, 28% of Israelis lacked faith in the election results.Israelis head to the polls on November 1.It is the fifth election since 2019 — the result of several deadlocked results that failed to produce a government, as well as two shortlived governing coalitions.Last week, President Isaac Herzog penned a letter to party leaders, urging them to reign in incitement, and to ensure their supporters have confidence in the election results, “whatever they may be.”Herzog’s call appeared to be a plea to avoid a repetition of the situation in the US, where former US president Donald Trump’s baseless refusal to accept the results of the election has continued to undermine the American political system.The IDI study also found a minority of 37% of Israelis are optimistic about the future of democracy.Among Jewish Israelis, 38% have a positive outlook on democracy, but the number drops to 30% among Arab Israelis.Additionally, the survey asked respondents if they thought security officials’ support for the recent maritime border deal with Lebanon was influenced by political considerations, finding mixed responses.“Half the sample believe that this support was indeed also influenced by political considerations; one-third, that the agency heads’ decision was entirely professional; and 17% said that they don’t know,” the report said, adding that the rate of those who thought political considerations influenced security officials was higher among Jewish Israelis.Citing the urgent need to sign the deal and constraints on the Lebanese side, the outgoing government approved the deal, but did not bring it to the Knesset for a vote.

A Jan. 6 rioter who wielded a hatchet and smashed two windows with a flagpole will serve no jail time, a federal judge ruled Wednesday, finding that Asperger’s syndrome made him susceptible to the influence of the mob.Nicholas Rodean of Frederick, Md., attempted to address U.S. District Court Judge Trevor McFadden Wednesday and visibly struggled to complete thoughts and sentences while explaining and apologizing for his Jan. 6 conduct. At one point, he clutched his head in frustration.McFadden ultimately chose to sentence Rodean to 240 days of home confinement. But he said he was convinced that Rodean’s severe mental illness significantly mitigated “the blameworthiness of your conduct.”“I’m giving you a real break here,” McFadden said, noting that similar cases of property destruction connected to the Capitol breach had merited lengthier jail sentences.Brutality on the ground: Jan. 6 witnesses reveal the stoking of a riot.It was an unexpected turn for a defendant whose health struggles were largely discussed under seal during his nearly two-year criminal case. Rodean was charged on Jan. 11, 2021 for his role in the Capitol breach. New clues emerge about the money that might have helped fund the Jan. 6 insurrection-March 11, 20225:00 AM ET
Eight months into the investigation of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, the financial story is one of the most closely held parts of the probe. But the House select committee investigating the 2021 attack has shared some clues through its subpoenas and court filings.The latest peek into questions around the money that might have helped fuel the attack arrived with the Republican National Committee's lawsuit to thwart a subpoena from the committee.The filing reveals that the Democratic-led panel quietly subpoenaed an RNC vendor, San Francisco-based Salesforce, last month.After the suit became public, the committee quickly defended the effort, saying it was looking into a new push led by former President Donald Trump asking for donations after he lost his 2020 bid for reelection."Ever since Watergate, one of the central adages in ... congressional investigations of presidential wrongdoing has been 'follow the money,' " said Norm Eisen, a former House lawyer in Trump's first impeachment case. "The 1/6 committee investigation has been sweeping in all of its dimensions, and this is no exception."The committee's Feb. 23 subpoena of Salesforce emphasized its interest in the company's hosting of Trump emails that asked for new donations and included false claims of election fraud.Ronna McDaniel, chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, speaks during the RNC's winter meeting on Feb. 4 in Salt Lake City. Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., a member of the Jan. 6 panel. "We are looking into that."The committee's investigators are divided into highly skilled teams with core areas of focus, including one focused on money.Aguilar says each team has been making "significant progress," with regular presentations to the full committee on its findings. Each has been charged with devising a strategy for depositions and hearings."The committee has not tipped its hand of everything they have," Eisen said. "They dedicated significant resources to the money trails. And I'm certain that in the hearings and in the final report, there's going to be much more evidence revealed."The committee hopes this spring to hold its first hearings illustrating the findings so far and issue an interim report by the summer and a final report this fall.-Questions of crimes committed-While it investigates, the panel is also documenting possible crimes.Although it has no criminal jurisdiction, the committee can issue criminal referrals to the Justice Department, as it has done in cases of some witnesses who have refused to cooperate.Last week, the committee detailed possible crimes Trump might have committed related to the Jan. 6 attack in a court filing involving attorney John Eastman, who was advising Trump's Stop the Steal efforts.Eastman is also fighting another subpoena in a case in which the panel raised potential crimes that could tie into the financial probe as well: conspiracy to defraud and common law fraud.Eisen argues that following the money is one of the classic ways of establishing the parameters of a broad conspiracy."These are questions. They're allegations. They're not yet determined," Eisen notes. However, some examples of these questions are "were false representations made in order to fleece people of their funds? Was it wire fraud? Adam Schiff, D-Calif., another committee member and the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, who was the lead House manager during Trump's first impeachment. "At the same time, the Congress has to be careful not to play into any narrative that a prosecution — if the Justice Department were to bring one — is politically motivated in any way."That political concern, Schiff argues, can be addressed through the panel's methodical approach to the probe, while not criminal in nature. The House committee investigating the Capitol insurrection has subpoenaed Guilfoyle as it probes who funded the day's events.In the coming days, the committee could unearth another rash of financial details with information from a newly subpoenaed witness.Kimberly Guilfoyle, Donald Trump Jr.'s fiancée, is due to turn over documents to the panel Friday and testify next week. Last year, ProPublica reported that Guilfoyle bragged in text messages that she helped raise $3 million for the Jan. 6 rally at the Ellipse, where she was one of the speakers.It's a reminder that more than a year later, it's still unclear how much money was funneled to the Jan. 6 rally or events that preceded it and who got paid along the way.The panel has also shared in letters to certain subpoenaed witnesses that it's trying to track down appearance fees for that rally — that is, whether any of the speakers collected payment that day."If funds were raised for the Jan. 6 event by an organized group, then there might be an opportunity for us to know who it was and what was paid," said Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., who chairs the House select committee.The committee has also quietly sought banking records, including in the case of Taylor Budowich, a Trump spokesman who sued to keep his financial institution from complying with a subpoena."There's no doubt that there is a very big moneymaking operation component to this story," said Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., another committee member, who was also the lead manager of the House team during Trump's second impeachment.Anna Massoglia, an editorial and investigations manager for the nonpartisan, nonprofit group OpenSecrets, is also trying to track the money trail.Massoglia says a combination of dark-money groups, nonprofits and super PACs funded the rally before the attack but not necessarily the insurrection. She says the committee will be key to filling in many of the blanks that remain."There's those unknowns of the groups on social media that didn't have as much of an official role," she said. "But there is a lot of unknown about even these groups that are listed. There's a lot of money that is still unaccounted for."OpenSecrets has identified at least nine groups that may have contributed to funding the rally, including Stop the Steal, Women for America First, Tea Party Patriots and Turning Point Action. Massoglia says tax returns due later this year could also shed more light on those who may have funneled or made money connected to that day.Raskin says the financial story behind the attack remains a critical chapter to the overall story that the committee hopes to tell the public later this year."There are powerful indications that have surfaced, and every day that passes we get more testimony shedding light on what exactly was taking place," Raskin said. "We should not discount the financial motive and imperative in the events leading up to Jan. 6."

Pestilence is a deadly disaster, usually a disease, that affects an entire community. Pestilence is contagious, virulent, and devastating. For example, the Black Plague in Europe that killed over thirty percent of the population during the late Middle Ages was a pestilence. In the Bible, pestilence is usually a sign of God’s judgment on a nation or people group (Deuteronomy 32:24; 1 Chronicles 21:12; Ezekiel 7:14–15). The God who protects and blesses is also the God who sends disaster and pestilence when it accomplishes His righteous purposes on earth (Isaiah 45:7; Ezekiel 5:16–17; Amos 4:10). Pestilence is promised as part of God’s final judgment on the world in Revelation 18:8.The word translated “pestilence” is often translated as “plague” or “disaster” in new versions of the English Bible. However, because the word is often paired with both of those, it may imply a greater devastation than mere physical disease. Pestilence incorporates any and all forms of public and mass destruction and often accompanies famine (Ezekiel 7:15) or war (Jeremiah 21:9). Jesus forewarned of pestilence when He described the end times.

U.S. and Ukrainian alarm over a flurry of Russian claims that Kyiv plans to deploy a so-called dirty bomb have worsened fears that President Vladimir Putin could try to escalate the conflict to try to change the course of the war. Ukraine and its allies vehemently reject the Russian accusations, countering that, in fact, the Kremlin may be planning a “false flag” operation, blaming Kyiv for its own actions.As tensions over the nine-month war worsen, NBC News looks at what a dirty bomb actually is, the damage it can cause and whether it can render any military advantage.What is a dirty bomb? A dirty bomb, also known as a “radiological dispersion device,” is defined as a conventional weapon that has been augmented with a radioactive material. Traditionally, security experts have warned of dirty bombs’ being used by terrorist groups instead of militaries.The method of delivery could be a missile, an airplane stocked with radioactive materials or a strategically planted improvised explosive device, according to the Washington-based Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation.It’s a basic, rudimentary device that’s easy enough to make with explosives and radioactive material, said nuclear expert Tom Plant, a senior associate fellow at the Royal United Services Institute, a defense and security think tank in London. A variety of radioactive materials could be used, he said, including materials used in nuclear medicine and for industrial purposes. When it’s deployed, the material doesn’t do anything to make the explosion any bigger, he said — it’s there purely to create contamination and, most likely, panic.What damage can it cause? Just how devastating a dirty bomb can be depends on the type and size of the conventional explosives, as well as the potency and amount of radioactive material that has been added. The main danger comes from the explosion, not the radiation, according to the guidance on radiological dispersion devices from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.“Only people who are very close to the blast site would be exposed to enough radiation to cause immediate serious illness,” according to the guidance. “Still, radioactive dust and smoke can spread farther away and could be dangerous to health if people breathe in the dust, eat contaminated food or drink contaminated water.”Pavel Podvig, a senior researcher at the U.N. Institute for Disarmament Research, said on Twitter that a “dirty bomb” contamination area is likely to be no more than a few hundred yards in diameter. “To create serious contamination over a large area one would have to blow up a nuclear reactor, Chernobyl-type,” Podvig said. Plant said the psychological damage from deploying a dirty bomb in Ukraine would probably be far-reaching. “The fact that it’s dirty — in that the contamination spreads around — is the kind of thing that people get scared of,” he said.It could also overwhelm hospitals as people rush to get assessed for radioactive poisoning even if they aren’t sick, and it could cause widespread disruption as authorities undertake a potentially extensive clean-up, Plant said.

Nuclear warfare foretold in the Bible?
In Rev. 18 we read of a city that would be judged in one hour. Which city is that? And what kind of fire could possibly lay a city to waste in just one hour? The city is a city that sits on seven hills, for the story of this city also known as Mystery Babylon starts in Revelation 17, and is continued in Rev.18 where its final moments is explained like this. Rev. 18:17 “ For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And why would traders who saw this not rush into this rich city to save some of the riches in the places where the fire has not yet burned? Because they will be witnessing a nuclear explosion and its aftermath in action from which it is best to stand far off due to radiation. In Rev.17 the woman which sits on a city which lays on 7 hills has been warned that ten horns [military powers] would hate her and burn her with fire, and in Rev.18 the fire that will destroy her is described to be able to do so in just one hour. What can ignite miles of city buildings in just a few moments? The nuclear bomb. Fifty percent of the energy from a nuclear detonation is distributed in blast forces. Approximately thirty-five percent of the weapon's energy comes in the form of heat. “ The role of thermal energy should not be treated as a secondary factor in attacks on urban centers, because the full destructive effect of the initial heat from the detonation is felt when the fuel presented by civilization is ignited and becomes itself a weapon of destruction. And then they wondered after the same knowledge, doing everything including spying to get it also. outlets, Kiriyenko’s seating on Friday said it all: Putin’s
domestic-policy-czar-turned-annexation-engineer is going places, and is
likely vying for Russia’s top job.But the Russian presidential election
is still two years away, and at least for the time being, Kiriyenko has
his work cut out for him. According to German daily Süddeutsche Zeitung,
Kiriyenko has personally been tasked with overseeing and administering
the annexation of Ukraine’s Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson

current rush to appease Moscow is deeply unnerving and reflects a
short-sighted failure to appreciate the appalling security implications
of bowing down to Russian intimidation. Giving in to Putin’s nuclear
blackmail would not end the war in Ukraine. What it would do is set a
disastrous precedent that makes a future nuclear war far more likely
while encouraging dozens of countries to acquire nuclear arsenals of
their own.Putin first raised the prospect of a nuclear escalation in a
September 21 address that saw him announce plans to annex large swathes
of occupied Ukrainian territory and launch Russia’s first mobilization
since World War II. “I’m not bluffing,” the Russian ruler declared. The
following week, he accused the United States of “creating a precedent”
by dropping atomic bombs on Japan in 1945 and vowed to use “all means at
our disposal,” to defend Ukrainian regions annexed by Russia.Others
have been less forthright, with French President Emmanuel Macron in
particular coming under fire for unilaterally ruling out the use of
nuclear weapons in response to a Russian nuclear attack on Ukraine.
Meanwhile, tech billionaire Elon Musk has been one of numerous
high-profile figures to promote Kremlin-friendly peace plans while
arguing that the world faces possible nuclear apocalypse unless Ukraine
cedes land (and millions of citizens) to Russia.What comes next will
determine the future role of nuclear weapons in international relations
and shape the security climate for decades to come. If Russia’s nuclear
threats succeed and Ukraine is forced to accept partial partition, the
entire doctrine of mutually assured destruction (MAD), which served so
well throughout the Cold War, will be torn up and a new age of
instability will begin.MAD worked because the two Cold War era
superpowers balanced each other out. The Russian invasion of Ukraine is
completely different. We are currently witnessing a nuclear superpower
threatening a non-nuclear state precisely because it has failed to win a
war by conventional military means. The message from Moscow is both
menacing and unmistakable: countries with nuclear weapons cannot be
defeated by those who have none. This is a recipe for nuclear
proliferation.If Putin is able to rescue his failing invasion and
achieve his military goals through the use of nuclear blackmail, it will
spark a nuclear arms race of unprecedented proportions. A long list of
countries including everyone from Iran and Saudi Arabia to Nigeria and
South Korea will take note of the new rules established in Ukraine and
scramble to join the nuclear club. Eventually, not having nukes could
come to be seen as an invitation for invasion.This would be bitterly
ironic as Ukraine was once something of a poster child for nuclear
non-proliferation. In 1994, Ukraine agreed to hand over what was at the
time the world’s third-largest nuclear arsenal in exchange for “security
assurances” from Russia, the United States, and the United Kingdom. The
Budapest Memorandum is now widely recognized as one of the most
notorious diplomatic blunders of the modern era. It is a mistake few are
eager to repeat. Indeed, given Ukraine’s current predicament, why would
any country abandon their own nuclear aspirations in return for empty
assurances?The only way to prevent the world from descending into a dark
future of spiraling nuclear confrontation is to make sure Putin fails.
His nuclear threats require an overwhelming response spelling out that
any atomic aggression in Ukraine would mean defeat and ruin for Russia.
There is no longer room for strategic ambiguity or talk of proportional
retaliation; Putin must be made to personally understand that neither he
nor his regime would survive if he chooses to cross the nuclear red
line.Many NATO member states will no doubt be deeply uncomfortable with
the idea of directly confronting the Kremlin in this manner. Others will
warn that such posturing could easily ignite a third world war. These
are valid concerns, but there are no longer any risk-free options
available. Unless the international community stands up to Putin now,
the entire world will be plunged into a dangerous new era defined by the

was preparing a “provocation” involving a radioactive device, a stark
claim that was strongly rejected by Ukrainian and British officials amid
soaring tensions as Moscow struggles to stem Ukrainian advances in the
south.Russia’s Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu made the allegations in
phone calls with his counterparts from the United States, Britain,
France, and Turkey.Russia’s defense ministry said Shoigu voiced concern
about “possible Ukrainian provocations involving a ‘dirty bomb,’” a
device that uses explosives to scatter radioactive waste. It does not
have the devastating effect of a nuclear explosion, but it could expose
broad areas to radioactive contamination.Russian authorities repeatedly
have made allegations that Ukraine could detonate a dirty bomb in a

three days before Southeast Asian foreign ministers are to hold a
special meeting in Indonesia to discuss widening violence in Myanmar.The
number of casualties at Sunday night’s celebration by the Kachin
Independence Organization in the northern state of Kachin appeared to be
the most in a single air attack since the military seized power in
February last year from the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi.It
was impossible to independently confirm details of the incident, though
media sympathetic to the Kachin posted videos showing what was said to
be the attack's aftermath, with splintered and flattened wooden
structures. There was no immediate comment from the military or
government media.The United Nations' office in Myanmar said in a
statement that it was “deeply concerned and saddened” by reports of the
air strikes.“What would appear to be excessive and disproportionate use
of force by security forces against unarmed civilians is unacceptable

established independent school-hosted clubs, rather than hosting Pride

comment.“This is a desperate stunt by Yeshiva University to distract
from the growing calls from its donors, alumni, faculty, policymakers,
and the business community, who have stood alongside the YU Pride
Alliance, as we continue to fight for our rights,” the YU Pride Alliance
said.“The YU sham is not a club as it was not formed by students, is
not led by students, and does not have members; rather, it is a feeble
attempt by YU to continue denying LGBTQ students equal treatment as full
members of the YU student community,” the group said.The university has
sought to tread a line between rhetorically welcoming LGBTQ students
and refusing to recognize the Pride Alliance “to protect the
university’s religious autonomy.”Recognition would grant the Pride club
funding and other benefits that are distributed to other student

Gay sex and same-sex marriage are generally forbidden in Orthodox
Judaism.In June, a New York judge said the university needed to
recognize the club under a city human rights law barring discrimination
based on sexual orientation.The university appealed to the US Supreme
Court, asking it to overturn the New York court’s decision. The court
dismissed the case last month, meaning the university needed to
recognize the club, at least temporarily.The Supreme Court said the
university needed to exhaust other appeals before it would hear the
case. The decision was made on procedural grounds, not the larger
religious issues.The dissenting justices said the university could
appeal to the Supreme Court again down the road and would “likely win”
in such a scenario. Yeshiva University President Rabbi Ari Berman said
the school would “follow their instructions.”The following day, after
the Supreme Court dismissal, the university said it was suspending all
student clubs, apparently in order to avoid recognizing the Pride club.
The Pride Alliance agreed to pause its battle for recognition a week
later for the benefit of other students.
