Cory Booker, D-N.J., said Trump was "particularly responsible" for the shooting, in a Sunday interview on NBC's "Meet the Press.""In my faith, you have this idea that you reap what you sow, and he is sowing seeds of hatred in this country, this harvest of hate violence that we are seeing right now lies at his feet. There is a complicity in the president's hatred that undermines the goodness and decency of Americans," he added.In a Sunday interview on CNN, South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg made a similar point, arguing that Trump "made his career, politically, on demonizing Mexicans and now we're seeing reports that the shooter yesterday had his goal as killing as many Mexicans as possible. It is very clear that this kind of hate is being legitimized from on high."Two conservative publications, National Review and The Washington Examiner, posted editorials on Sunday encouraging Trump to denounce white nationalism.Calling the shooter a "white nationalist terrorist," The Washington Examiner wrote, "Trump should deliver a prime-time speech as soon as possible that names the evil at play here and denounces it. ... Trump needs to make clear that he hates white nationalism as something un-American and evil. And he ought not dilute this attack by talking again about 'many' or 'both' sides, by offering up nonconstructive criticisms of liberals which (intentionally or not) stoke racial tensions, or any other such distraction."National Review similarly wrote, "President Trump, a man who is comfortable using his bully pulpit for the most frivolous of reasons, should take the time to condemn these actions repeatedly and unambiguously, in both general and specific terms."Trump posted several tweets about the shootings over the weekend, but has not addressed the apparent racist motivations of the El Paso shooter, except to call it an "act of cowardice" and "hateful act."First daughter Ivanka Trump did, however, name the alleged motivation, tweeting, "White supremacy, like all other forms of terrorism, is an evil that must be destroyed."Dayton, Ohio-The Dayton shooter, on the other hand, appears to be from the opposite side of the political spectrum.The shooting occurred early Sunday morning outside a nightclub in downtown Dayton. The alleged shooter, Connor Betts, 24, injured 27 people and killed nine, including his sister, before being shot and killed by police.In a Sunday afternoon post, Heavy.com claims to have found the shooter's social media posts.According to Heavy's finding, Betts appears to have been a liberal. He wrote approvingly of socialism, Democrat presidential candidate Sen. Investors frantically dumped U.S. stocks Monday, fearful that a sharp decline in China's currency signaled a retaliation against Washington and its latest tariff threat. The rout was the biggest of the year for all three major indexes.The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 767 points, or 2.9%, to close at around 25,718, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index tumbled almost 87 points, or nearly 3%, to end at 2,845.The tech-heavy Nasdaq composite fell the most of the major indexes, losing 278 points, or 3.47%, to finish at 7,726 on Monday-China allowed the yuan to drop to seven per U.S. dollar, an 11-year low and a politically sensitive level. A weaker Chinese currency can help boost that country’s exports by making them cheaper while hurting foreign competition."Trade continues to trend in the wrong direction ... any hopes of a quick resolution with China are fading quickly," said Ryan Detrick, senior market strategist for LPL Financial."At the same time, don't forget the calendar," he added. "August has been the worst month of the year for the S&P 500 over the past 10 years. Oil Falls as Soaring Trade-War Tensions Spark Flight From Risk-[Bloomberg]-YAHOONEWS-August 5, 2019

(Bloomberg) -- The international oil benchmark closed below $60 dollars a barrel for the first time in almost two months as worsening U.S.-China trade relations intensified fears about the health of the global economy, prompting investors across financial markets to flee risky assets.Futures fell 3.4% to settle at $59.81 in London on Monday. China, hitting back against U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to pile on more tariffs, allowed its currency to fall to the lowest since 2008. The dispute between the top two economies is threatening energy demand and overshadowing Middle East supply threats.“Oil is taking a hit with the escalation of the trade war and the slide in the yuan,” said John Kilduff, partner at Again Capital LLC. With no resolution to the dispute in sight, “we’ve seen the economic data out of Asia continue to worsen as a result; economies are contracting and so is demand for energy and crude oil.”Oil was dragged down with other risky assets including equities and copper as China’s move to let the yuan weaken stoked fears of a currency war. The long-running trade dispute is countering the threat of supply disruptions in the midst of a showdown between Iran and Western powers over crucial Middle East shipping lanes.“The concern about demand is taking precedence over the Middle East situation,” Kilduff said. “It says a lot that crude is down so much when we know Iran has captured another vessel,” he said, referring to the seizure of a foreign oil tanker by the Islamic Republic in the Persian Gulf on July 31.West Texas Intermediate oil for September delivery slid 97 cents to settle at $54.69 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.Brent for October settlement declined $2.08 to $59.81 on the London-based ICE Futures Europe Exchange. The last time Brent dipped below $60 was on June 12. The contract traded at a premium of $5.23 to WTI for the same month.Apart from letting the yuan slump, China asked state purchasers to halt imports of American agricultural products. Trump characterized the move as “currency manipulation” and indicated he wants the Federal Reserve to counter the Asian nation’s action. Last week, Trump threatened to impose 10% tariffs on another $300 billion in goods from China starting Sept. 1.Iran said the ship taken by its Revolutionary Guards was carrying around 4,400 barrels of smuggled fuel when it was seized near Farsi Island off the country’s southwestern coast, Sepah News reported.
