MARK 14:1-72
1 After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.
2 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.
3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.
4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?
5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
6 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.
7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.
8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.
9 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
10 And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.
11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.
12 And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?
13 And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.
14 And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
15 And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.
16 And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
17 And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.
18 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.
19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?
20 And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish.
21 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.
22 And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
23 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.
24 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.
25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.
26 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
27 And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.
28 But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.
29 But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.
30 And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.
31 But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.
32 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.
33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;
34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.
35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?
38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.
40 And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.
41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
42 Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.
43 And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
44 And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.
45 And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.
46 And they laid their hands on him, and took him.
47 And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
48 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?
49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.
50 And they all forsook him, and fled.
51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:
52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
53 And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.
54 And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.
55 And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
56 For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
57 And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
59 But neither so did their witness agree together.
60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
63 Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?
64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.
65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.
66 And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:
67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.
68 But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.
69 And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.
70 And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.
71 But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.
72 And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.

MARK 15:1-47
1 And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.
2 And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him, Thou sayest it.
3 And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing.
4 And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against thee.
5 But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marvelled.
6 Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired.
7 And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.
8 And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them.
9 But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
10 For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.
11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.
12 And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?
13 And they cried out again, Crucify him.
14 Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.
15 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.
16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Praetorium; and they call together the whole band.
17 And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head,
18 And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!
19 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.
20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.
21 And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.
22 And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.
23 And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.
24 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.
25 And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.
26 And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
27 And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.
28 And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.
29 And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,
30 Save thyself, and come down from the cross.
31 Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.
32 Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.
33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.
34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
35 And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias.
36 And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down.
37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.
38 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.
39 And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.
40 There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;
41 (Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.
42 And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,
43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.
44 And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.
45 And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.
46 And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.
47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.

MARK 16:1-20
1 And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.
2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.
3 And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?
4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.
5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.
6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.
7 But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.
8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulchre; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid.
9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
10 And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept.
11 And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.
12 After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country.
13 And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.
14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

MATTHEW 26:1-75
1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,
2 Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.
3 Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,
4 And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.
5 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.
6 Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.
8 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?
9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.
10 When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.
11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.
12 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.
13 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.
14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
16 And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?
18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.
19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.
20 Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.
21 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
22 And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?
23 And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.
24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.
25 Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.
26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.
30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.
32 But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.
33 Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.
34 Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
35 Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.
44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
46 Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.
47 And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
48 Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.
49 And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.
50 And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.
51 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and smote off his ear.
52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
55 In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.
56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
57 And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.
58 But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest’s palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.
59 Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;
60 But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,
61 And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.
62 And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
63 But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.
66 What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.
67 Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,
68 Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?
69 Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.
70 But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.
71 And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.
72 And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.
73 And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.
74 Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.
75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

1 When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:
2 And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
4 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
6 And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.
7 And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in.
8 Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.
9 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;
10 And gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord appointed me.
11 And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.
12 And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.
13 Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?
14 And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.
15 Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.
16 And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
17 Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?
18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
19 When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
21 The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.
22 Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.
23 And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.
25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
26 Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.
28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
30 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.
31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.
32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.
33 And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,
34 They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
36 And sitting down they watched him there;
37 And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
38 Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.
39 And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,
40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.
41 Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,
42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.
43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.
44 The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.
45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.
46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.
48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
49 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
55 And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:
56 Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee’s children.
57 When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus’ disciple:
58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.
62 Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.
64 Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.
65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.
66 So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.

MATTHEW 28:1-20
1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.

11 Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done.
12 And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
13 Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.
14 And if this come to the governor’s ears, we will persuade him, and secure you.
15 So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

The congressman would like to thank the U.S. Capitol Police officer who quickly escorted the other Members and him into the Capitol, and defused the tense situation with professionalism and care, said Danny Rotert, a spokesman for Cleaver.In fact, nobody spat on Cleaver. He wandered too close to a screaming protester and was hit by flying saliva. The N word cannot be heard in either of the videos below, although it is difficult to tell what beyond kill the bill is being yelled at the Congress critters as they flaunted their power over the plebs.I have heard things today that I have not heard since March 15, 1960, when I was marching to get off the back of the bus,House Majority Whip James Clyburn, a South Carolina Democrat and the highest-ranking black official in Congress, told the CIA’s favorite newspaper, the Washington Post.

Clyburn tried to turn attention away from the fact most Americans are opposed to Obamacare and more than a few were so outraged they traveled to Washington and yelled at House members who subsequently betrayed the Constitution and handed the government authoritarian power over millions of people. He even rolled in civil rights imagery in order to make his point and prevent rational opposition.A lot of us have been saying for a long time that much of this, much of this is not about health care a all. And I think a lot of those people today demonstrated that this is not about health care,he said,it is about trying to extend a basic fundamental right to people who are less powerful.One has to ask why members of the House decided to wander into a crowd of people opposed to a bill they were about to vote on. Congress critters usually use a tunnel in order to avoid the commoners. But on this historical day they waded directly into a hostile crowd.Is there a reason for this? Of course. It was a propaganda stunt designed by Democrats. They were well aware of the people gathered outside upset over Obama’s totalitarian care. The imagery was nearly perfect for their purposes — a crowd of howling mostly white people confronting a small number of black people. It would reaffirm what Chris Matthews and other corporate media apologists for state power have said for months — opposition to Obamacare (or anything the government does) is racist. The complaisant corporate media inserted the accusation of racism in the argument at exactly the right time. It was all part of a well orchestrated plan.Democrats like to pretend Republicans and their compromised Tea Party followers are responsible for a brick thrown through the window of Rep. Slaughter’s office and other incidents of minor property damage. Is it possible Democrats orchestrated these events as part of their effort to demonize opposition to Obamacare?

Recall the case of Maurice Schwenkler in Denver. Schwenkler, who is a transgender activist connected to the SEIU supported group Colorado Citizens Coalition, was arrested for smashing eleven windows at the Democrat headquarters last year.While Schwenkler does not appear in the state’s voter registration database, a person by that name in November 2008 received $500 from a political 527 committee called Colorado Citizens Coalition for communications, according to campaign finance disclosures,the Denver Post reported.Did Schwenkler attack the Democrats because he opposes Obamacare? Hardly. It was an attempt to blame those opposed to Obamacare and make them look like violent thugs. Fortunately, Schwenkler was caught by the cops and the real story came out. FCC Adviser Advocates State-run Propaganda Megaphone to Counter Alternative Media Kurt Nimmo Infowars.com March 31, 2010

In order to counter alternative media, an adviser to the Federal Communications Commission has suggested using your tax money — or rather money the government borrows from bankers and then expects your children to pay off — to create public media that will serve as a filter and a megaphone for a network of government-funded journalists competing with other, non-government-backed reporters, according to Matt Cover, writing for CNSNews.FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski has addressed the National Broadband Plan in FDR-esque overtones. Rutgers University law professor Ellen Goodman, who is a distinguished visiting scholar with the FCC’s Future of Media Project, submitted the proposal in a draft of the government takeover plan targeted at the internet called the National Broadband Plan.The feds are pushing their internet takeover plan under left cover, specifically touchy-feely platitudes about the disabled, and providing free internet as a form of democratic egalitarianism (nothing is free, especially when it is offered by government). FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski has addressed the issue in FDR-esque overtones, stating that broadband internet is our generation’s major infrastructure challenge… It’s like roads, canals, railroads and telephones for previous generations. It’s like electricity in its transformative power.

Commissar Goodman said the government needs to provide the narrative content necessary to involve the entire population in democratic decision making or to foster widespread economic and social flourishing. She said there are information gaps in the investigative journalism arena, especially in regard to underserved, minority, and poor populations.Goodman wants to transcend the legacy public broadcasting system in order to correct these deficits.She said the federal plan to take over the internet is the key to correcting the nation’s civic deficits and called for a digital public media network to connect government-funded journalists together.Goodman said public media (government run and controlled media) is necessary because while information is abundant today, wisdom and knowledge remain hard won.In other words, she believes the corporate media and especially the alternative media are not doing enough to disseminate government propaganda.Public media contributions are especially needed in the areas of enterprise journalism (particularly at the local level), educational content, and content that illuminates issues of particular relevance to minority and underserved audiences,she added.

Goodman’s underserved audiences, of course, will be determined by the government and based on how they vote and to what degree they support the ruling elite. Don’t expect Libertarians and other critics of government to be allowed to participate (most would find such participation abhorrent, so moot point).Goodman’s network of government investigative journalists (an oxymoron if ever there was one) would connect on the internet and operationalize the new public (government) non-commercial media.New public media are needed, Goodman argues, to foster virtual and real spaces for intelligent discourse (managed by the federal government) free from the commercial pressures of independent, non-government media — in other words, the government needs to create a monopoly because it cannot compete with commercial and alternative media now predominate on the internet.Alternative and commercial media, she explains, engage in ever more outrageous flares (academic-speak for talk radio and news and information websites outside the orbit of the corporate media).Goodman has suggested a takeover of public television in order to realize her comrades-in-arms vision. But it does not stop there. She also believes the government must take over commercial television. The Plan also threw out the idea of using noncommercial TV spectrum auction revenues (to be generated by voluntary consolidation of stations) to fund public media,she writes.I supported this kind of approach in my comments and think there may really be something to it. But it’s an issue that will take a long time to work though, that will involve the whole TV band, including commercial TV stations, and that will require Congressional action.(Emphasis added.)

The government is desperate to counter the free flow of information especially on the internet and steer the populace back on the government propaganda track. It will exploit underserved audiences in order to do this. People are currently abandoning the corporate media in huge numbers (and in the process abandoning government propaganda).Finally, reading Goodman’s comments about government-supported journalists I am reminded of the People’s Correspondents in the former Soviet Union. They were amateur proletarian journalists (from formerly underserved audiences) who filed reports from the frontlines about the march toward communism beginning in the early years of the Soviet Union. Under Stalin, there were more than 3 million worker and agriculture correspondents. They were instructed on appropriate themes by the communist party and Soviet newspaper editors and journalists.

Bush, characterized by illegal surveillance, arbitrary detention of suspects, and paramilitary martial law, she was lauded, but when she continued to issue the same warning as a result of Obama’s failure to reverse any of those policies, many on the left abandoned support for her.However, as Wolf’s recent interview with leftist website Alternet makes plain, liberals may finally be starting to understand that both political parties in Washington are part of the problem, not the solution.Alternet writer Justine Sharrock seems to be struggling to come to terms with the fact that Naomi Wolf’s rhetoric now very much echoes that of Alex Jones and many aspects of the Tea Party movement, an uncomfortable quandary for leftist media outlets, many of whom have acted as obedient echo chambers for the corporate media in demonizing grassroots populists as extremists and even domestic terrorists.

She speaks their language, referring to the Founding Fathers and American Revolution as models, admitting to a profound sense of fear, warning of tyranny, fascism, Nazism and martial law. When Glenn Beck warns of these things we laugh. When Wolf draws those same connections, we listen. How can both sides be speaking the same language, yet see things so differently? asks Sharrock.The reason, as Wolf outlines, is the fact that Obama has preserved, institutionalized, and even expanded the very same policies that led to the left comparing George W. Bush to Hitler, a comparison which now, when made with Obama, is taboo, racist and an example of fringe beliefs according to the establishment media.Bush legalized torture, but Obama is legalizing impunity. The real fight isn’t left or right but between forces of democracy across the spectrum and the forces of tyranny.And that’s what the left-wing needs to understand if true freedom is ever going to be restored in America. As Wolf touches upon in the interview, the left is brilliant at going up against the tyranny of the state, but only when a Republican is in office. As soon as a Democrat gets in, liberals suddenly prostrate themselves in obedience and join the chorus in attacking any dissenters as radical-right wing extremists who should have their speech taken away, blissfully ignorant of the fact that those very same laws will then be used to silence their free speech when the oval office rotates back to a Republican once again.Leftists are so prone to flip-flopping and becoming statists when a Democrat gets in office because they associate their own ego and political power with politicians, a foolish misjudgment in light of the fact that politicians stopped representing anything other than their own crooked interests decades ago. As Wolf emphasizes,Frankly, liberals are out of the habit of communicating with anyone outside their own in cohort. We have a cultural problem with self-righteousness and elitism….We look down on people we don’t agree with. It doesn’t serve us well.

The founding generation was birthed by the rabble of all walks of life that got fed up and did risky things because they were captivated by the breath of liberty. Take California’s challenge of the Patriot Act or states like Vermont leading the way with addressing the corruption of the voting system. It’s a good example of the Tea Party thinking out of the box on how to address a problem,states Wolf.The interview ends with Wolf warning of the fact that concerns about martial law are now more prescient than ever.

I think we have gone very far down that road. I met Muslim immigrants in Brooklyn who were swept up in 9-11 raids, held in abusive conditions, beaten, denied rights. That’s how things started in Germany. Guantanamo was modeled after what Stalin developed for the Gulag. Why are we engaged in psychological denial that it’s not a concentration camp? In terms of martial law, my god. Since the book came out they deployed a brigade in the U.S. and suspended the Posse Comitatus Act. There is no question that it’s something to take seriously. People have a histrionic view of what martial law will look like.

Perhaps Fox should direct more of its resources towards moderating violet comments on their own website rather than trawling through Infowars.com attempting to pick up on anything incendiary so they can shop Alex Jones to the feds.

Fox News was similarly unperturbed when neo-con talk show host and Fox News contributor Michael Reagan urged his listeners to kill author Mark Dice for sending 9/11 truth DVD’s to soldiers in Iraq.Excuse me folks, I’m going to say this, Reagan said during his June 10th 2008 show.We ought to find the people who are doing this, take them out and shoot them. While its own hosts abuse free speech to make violent threats, Fox News has a history of grassing people up to the authorities for exercising their free speech. Remember when Bill O’Reilly threatened to have Fox security pay a little visit to a caller’s home merely for mentioning Keith Olbermann’s name on air during his syndicated radio show? The caller began by telling O’Reilly, I like to listen to you during the day.Continuing, the caller stated,I think Keith Olbermann’s show, at which point O’Reilly disconnected the call, proclaiming: Mike is — he’s a gone guy. You know, we have his — we have your phone numbers, by the way. So, if you’re listening, Mike, we have your phone number, and we’re going to turn it over to Fox security, and you’ll be getting a little visit.Co-host E.D. Hill — who also co-hosts Fox News’ Fox & Friends — chimed in: Maybe Mike is from the mothership.O’Reilly responded that the caller was going to get into big trouble, because we’re not going to play around.Warning his listeners, O’Reilly continued: When you call us, ladies and gentleman, just so you know, we do have your phone number, and if you say anything untoward, obscene, or anything like that, Fox security will then contact your local authorities, and you will be held accountable. Fair?

At first, the stunt seemed like a gimmick, but two callers did indeed receive threatening calls from Fox security on the back of O’Reilly’s promise.In another example, a woman who had called into O’Reilly’s show and disagreed also received a call from Fox Security while in her car with her daughter. The woman burst into tears and was frightened by the intimidation tactic.Perhaps Fox News should concern itself with the violent and aggressive behavior of its own hosts, contributors, and website respondents rather than hiring snoops to grass up Alex Jones because a handful of the millions of comments and forum posts made by other people on his websites hint at violence.

GENEVA – The U.N. weather agency says the ongoing El Nino weather system could lessen the strength of hurricanes in the North Atlantic and mean good news for earthquake-rattled Haiti.The World Meteorological Organization says the El Nino effect may persist through midyear, halfway through the region's March-November hurricane season.Senior WMO official Rupa Kumar Kolli says it will be difficult to predict before May how long the El Nino effect will last.He told reporters in Geneva on Tuesday that past experience indicates neutral conditions are likely by midyear.
Kolli says the chance of a swing to the La Nina effect that increases hurricane strength in the North Atlantic is unlikely.

Tornado topples crane at Bahamas port, killing 3

FREEPORT, Bahamas – A tornado touched down during a fierce thunderstorm in the Bahamas on Monday and toppled a port crane, killing three people and injuring at least four.The crane collapsed at the Freeport Container Port on the western side of Grand Bahama, where trees were uprooted and windows blasted out of hotels as at least one tornado cut a destructive path on the island about 60 miles (100 kilometers) east of Florida.Two people were inside the crane when it fell and both died, said Capt. Stephen Russell, director of the Bahamas National Emergency Management Agency. Russell said a third person was also killed and four were injured at the port, but he had no details.Witness Glen Marchesani told The Tribune newspaper that the dead and injured were part of a crew of around 10 men doing maintenance work on one of the port's 10 cranes when it came crashing down.The foundation of the crane was ripped from the ground. Mangled metal from the toppled crane splashed into the roiling water at the port or came to rest on a rocky embankment.

A government statement said the tornado damaged six of the port's cranes. The Bahamas Information Services said the port will likely be closed for days and is expected to operate at a reduced capacity when it reopens.Godfrey Smith, director of the Freeport Container Port, declined to release the victims' names, saying company executives were still trying to contact relatives. He said further details about the fatalities would be released following an investigation.Elsewhere on Grand Bahama, the storm blew out windows, stripped shingles and peeled off a few roofs. Undersea volcano threatens southern Italy: report

ROME (AFP) – Europe's largest undersea volcano could disintegrate and unleash a tsunami that would engulf southern Italy at any time, a prominent vulcanologist warned in an interview published Monday.The Marsili volcano, which is bursting with magma, has fragile walls that could collapse, Enzo Boschi told the leading daily Corriere della Sera.It could even happen tomorrow, said Boschi, president of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV).Our latest research shows that the volcano is not structurally solid, its walls are fragile, the magma chamber is of sizeable dimensions, he said. All that tells us that the volcano is active and could begin erupting at any time.The event would result in a strong tsunami that could strike the coasts of Campania, Calabria and Sicily, Boschi said.The undersea Marsili, 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) tall and located some 150 kilometres (90 miles) southwest of Naples, has not erupted since the start of recorded history.It is 70 kilometres long and 30 kilometres wide, and its crater is some 450 metres below the surface of the Tyrrhenian Sea.A rupture of the walls would let loose millions of cubic metres of material capable of generating a very powerful wave, Boschi said.

As if by the hand of a cruel warlock a dark and eerie spell has been cast over a once vibrate and thriving setting, turning the halls of Liberty into corridors of depression, loss and gloom.Many Congressional offices now appear to be filled with fallen morale, which in times past were occupied with dreams, visions and a burning desire to build our great land. The angst, unease and disappointment for the once heralded idea of ‘change’ has fallen, being replaced with agonizing disbelief and quickly vanishing dreams of the now self imposed Lame-Duck candidates.Oh, the talk of victory is still on the lips of the absurd, the hopes of defeating the powerful onslaught of the Conservative movement is a tantalus of hope for those who irrationally believe they can construct a Hail Mary campaign, thereby saving their careers. The rancid order of socialism, quietly discussed behind closed doors, is now seeping into the nostrils of the people. The lingering cesspool stench of the progressive fetid calamity now clings to the Democrat Party and has become a foul reek in the nostrils of the people. The disgusting odor of decayed politics can no longer be ignored.The American people caught whiff of the bitter toilet water of Socialism as they watched entire industries seized by the iron fist of Washington. Citizen’s nostrils were filled with the pungent tang of globalism as trillions of their hard earned dollars were squandered by endless Bail-Outs, hollow Stimulus Bills and rotting pig barrel politics. The people recoiled in nausea and disfavor from the disgusting odor of the arrogant putsch as it seized 1/6th of our economy.The sight and smell of the decay of Liberty has been overwhelming. The owners of this great land watched in dismay, covering their noses with our beloved flag as they witnessed the spectacle of our elected officials buckling under the pressure of strong arm tactics, blackmail, bribes and finally surrendering our precious votes to the great unwashed purveyors of garbage politics.

But all is not lost. We The People, to the chagrin of Washington, have the power. We The People own our beloved nation, our votes, and greatest of all, our will to be free.We The People, being faced with an internal struggle, are rising to the call for restoration. America must not and will not become the seduced German people in 1933. We will not stand by and watch Obama turn our country into Frankenstein’s laboratory, shredding our constitution, bill of rights and freedom as Hitler did with his country.Tyrants and Dictators are predictably similar in how they take over. They ride in as the savior of change and hope. They offer health care, jobs for all, a refreshed national identity and protection from danger and harm….that is danger and harm they usually create to blame on enemies…..you know those groups who didn’t vote for them. The rope circles around the seduced neck of the people only after the dictator bribes his way in or gets voted in. One thing is for sure looking at recent history. Once a socialist/communist dictator gets into power, like terminal cancer he and his administration smother and take control of every aspect of the economy, educational system, health care system and military. They shred and control media, entertainment and religion.In 1919, Lennon wrote after his take over of Russia that the way to control a country is to first take over the industry, the land, and the banks. Lennon tricked and inspired millions and so did Hitler. These dictators didn’t come in, appearing like monsters. They were the messiahs of change and hope. Their exhaustive plans involved developing a huge and seduced fan base at first while aggressively and quickly finding and destroying anyone against them.

Kitty Werthmann was living in Austria when Hitler took over Germany next door. She recalls how deeply depressed Austria was in 1938. Nearly one-third of their workforce was unemployed. They had 25% inflation and 25% interest rates on bank loans.People were begging for food and bankruptcies were happening daily. Austria was in a mess so they were thrilled when Hitler promised big things and was elected in. There was no talk of persecuting or attacking the Jews. The Austrians were promised jobs, healthcare, protection and recovery.Kitty said that after the election was over there was instantly law and order. German officials were appointed everywhere and there was dancing in the streets. Though Austria was largely a Catholic country, suddenly in schools everywhere, all Catholic symbols and crosses were taken down and pictures of Hitler were put up everywhere.Hitler targeted and controlled education and stopped religious instruction for kids in schools. The new church for the children of Austria and Germany was still every Sunday but it now was forced attendance at the National Youth Day. The first two hours was political indoctrination every Sunday, then the rest of the day they played all kinds of sports. Naturally the equipment was free. Children went home thrilled each Sunday and were getting brainwashed. Parents had no choice but to send their children each Sunday or else be fined or taken to jail.

Hitler immediately introduced socialist health care. People were going to the hospital for everything now, lines were huge and doctors were paid a salary by the Government. The Austrians soon paid 80% of their income in taxes. Government gave loans for the newly married, and took care of everything from day care needs are to paying all College tuition.As the noose tightened around education, religion, healthcare and enforcement, the mercy killings started in. Kitty, then student teacher in a small village in the Alps, described 15 mentally retarded adults who were known in the community and did good manual work. One day they were rounded up and taken to an institution where the State Health Department would teach them a trade and various skills. Their families where forced to sign papers saying that they wouldn’t visit them for 6 months. They were told that any visits could cause homesickness and disrupt the program. The letters started arriving back to the parents after several months saying these people had died natural deaths. Of course, they all knew 15 completely healthy adults could not 6 months later have all died natural deaths. They knew they were killed. Euthanasia started to become more common as Hitler’s real world view of perfection started to come out.Hitler’s final control step of the Germans and Austrians was Gun laws and control. He started with gun registration. Once that was done, he said that guns were causing too much crime and that it was best for all to turn in their guns. They knew that authorities already knew who owned what so they complied.When you look at Hitler, Saul Alinsky, Stalin, Lennon, Chavez, Castro and others you see huge similarities with the strategy and world view of Obama. It is the same, promise of health care, jobs and opportunities. There is always a contrived crises or two the big Government has to magically solve, while blaming the enemies they want to create.

Obama is on the same control and dictatorship path as Hitler. First we saw the massive seduction over 15 months, now the controls and intimidation grow with his administration. This Health care bill might as well have been Hitler’s Enabling Act of March 23rd 1933. It also shreds our constitution and forces socialized health care on the people, rationing care for the unwanted and expensive seniors as they age and forcing us all to pay for the Government slaughter of babies, abortion. This bill, run by the IRS might as well be the Nazi party, as it encourages euthanasia, abortion and rationed care as Hitler did early on in Austria and Germany. Rep. Burgess stated the obvious about this nightmare bill when asked about the use of the Commerce clause excusing forced mandates by the Government. In a www.CNSNews.com interview Rep. Burgess, a doctor, stated, No, I personally do not, and I think that is exactly right. Never before in the history of this country have we had the ability to coerce American citizens to purchase something and then invoke the Commerce clause after we coerce that purchase.He went on…..It just flies in the face of what a free society should be, so I’m perfectly comfortable with the attorneys general bringing suit against this bill,Yes, law suits are flying by Attorney Generals and other groups. We must stand no matter how awkward, inconvenient or expensive it is. Our freedom and country is at stake.Obama isn’t stopping with forced Health care and the controls attached to that. He is going to manipulate votes by pushing amnesty for illegal aliens, controlling American businesses through cap and trade, then he will find a manipulative, back door way to come for our guns….most likely with a UN Treaty he is already working toward.

Obama continues to mock anyone who disagrees with him and is now, according to the Wall Street Journal, stepping up Confrontation . Obama must be voted out. I don’t see any tin helmet on my head and yes…..Obama comes from the same essence and evil as Hitler.

A renowned environmentalist, known for his advocacy of population reduction as a means of offsetting climate change, has called for a more authoritative world where freedom comes second to tackling what he sees as the devastating effects of global warming.Futurist James Lovelock, tells the London Guardian that he believes It may be necessary to put democracy on hold for a while, in order to save humanity.

We need a more authoritative world.Lovelock states.We’ve become a sort of cheeky, egalitarian world where everyone can have their say. It’s all very well, but there are certain circumstances – a war is a typical example – where you can’t do that. the 90 year old proponent of the Gaia hypothesis adds.You’ve got to have a few people with authority who you trust who are running it. And they should be very accountable too, of course.But it can’t happen in a modern democracy. This is one of the problems. What’s the alternative to democracy? There isn’t one. But even the best democracies agree that when a major war approaches, democracy must be put on hold for the time being. I have a feeling that climate change may be an issue as severe as a war. It may be necessary to put democracy on hold for a while.Lovelock concludes.Which people with authority could Lovelock have in mind for this tyrannical takeover in the name of mother Earth? Certainly not the disgraced UN affiliated climate scientists, whose involvement in several recent scandals even Lovelock admits is reprehensible:Fudging the data in any way whatsoever is quite literally a sin against the holy ghost of science. I’m not religious, but I put it that way because I feel so strongly. It’s the one thing you do not ever do. You’ve got to have standards.he states in the interview.Lovelock also has little faith in renewable energies, carbon trading or cap and tax schemes, which he previously told the New Scientist are verging on a gigantic scam:

Carbon trading, with its huge government subsidies, is just what finance and industry wanted. It’s not going to do a damn thing about climate change, but it’ll make a lot of money for a lot of people and postpone the moment of reckoning. I am not against renewable energy, but to spoil all the decent countryside in the UK with wind farms is driving me mad. It’s absolutely unnecessary, and it takes 2500 square kilometres to produce a gigawatt – that’s an awful lot of countryside.Lovelock repeats this sentiment in his latest interview with the Guardian, noting:I don’t know enough about carbon trading, but I suspect that it is basically a scam. The whole thing is not very sensible. We have this crazy idea that we are setting an example to the world. What we’re doing is trying to make money out of the world by selling them renewable gadgetry and green ideas. It might be worthy from the national interest, but it is moonshine if you think what the Chinese and Indians are doing [in terms of emissions].So, perhaps Lovelock would point to his friends at The Optimum Population Trust, a notorious UK-based public policy group that campaigns for a gradual decline in the global human population to what it sees as a sustainable level.Lovelock became a patron of the thinktank in 2009. In a statement released by the trust to mark the appointment, Lovelock called on the environmental movement as a whole to recognise the truth and speak out on the link between rising human numbers and global warming.Lovelock said: Those who fail to see that population growth and climate change are two sides of the same coin are either ignorant or hiding from the truth. These two huge environmental problems are inseparable and to discuss one while ignoring the other is irrational.

He added: How can we possibly decrease carbon emissions and land use while the number of emitters and the space they occupy remorselessly increases? When will the environmentalists who claim to be green recognise the truth and speak out? So, essentially Dr Lovelock advocates the destruction of freedom in order that an overriding authoritative global power can oversee the radical stemming of the planet’s human population – nice.Roger Martin, chair of OPT, said of Lovelock’s appointment: We desperately need to remember that future population growth is not a fact to be passively accepted but something over which we have control, and that limiting it could therefore play a major role in curbing emissions. Tragically, the green movement has chosen to forget this. With the help of eminent individuals such as James Lovelock, we will do our best to remind them.The OPT also has as patrons controversial primatologist and environmentalist Jane Goodall, who thinks that caging chimps and other apes is better for them than letting them live free in the wild; Professor Aubrey Manning, president of the UK’s Wildlife Trusts; and Sir Crispin Tickell, the ex-diplomat credited with the greening of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.The OPT also boasts as a patron BBC darling wildlife broadcaster and film-maker Sir David Attenborough, who has called for a one child policy like that of Communist China to be implemented in Britain. The proposal is one of the OPT’s main initiatives.

The think tank is also home to Jonathon Porritt, former chair of the UK Sustainable Development Commission, one of Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s leading green advisers, who has stated that Britain’s population must be cut in half from around 60 million to 30 million if it is to build a sustainable society.We have exhaustively exposed the nonsense behind the idea that the Earth’s current population levels are exceeding sustainable levels and are contributing to devastating climate change, however, Lovelock and his ilk at the OPT remain in positions of influence.Lovelock is also an ardent advocate of geoengineering the planet in the name of controlling the climate. In 2007 Lovelock proposed laying vast swathes of pipes under the world’s oceans in order to pump water from the bottom of the seas – rich in nutrients, but mostly dead – to the top. The idea being that the action would encourage algae to breed, absorb more carbon and release more dimethyl sulphide into the atmosphere, a chemical known to seed sunlight reflecting clouds.Effectively, Lovelock wants to try and block out the sun, the source of all life on this planet – nice.Lovelock is also a member of The Royal Society of Edinburgh, an organization that has thrown its full weight behind the global warming movement, lending its absolute support for legislation aimed at reducing carbon emissions by 80%, a process that will devastate the global economy and living standards.This organization has been even more vehement than national governments in its advocacy of the man-made cause of global warming, calling for such drastic CO2 cuts to be made in the short term, not even by the usual target date of 2050.In his most recent book The Vanishing Face of Gaia, Lovelock concludes that the damage caused by overpopulation, species decline and carbon emissions is already so great that modern civilisation is finished. notes James Delingpole at the London Telegraph.Before the end of this century, he argues, rising sea levels and overheating will have rendered whole swathes of our planet uninhabitable and such few survivors as there are will have to make do as best they can.Delingpole adds.Lovelock, The Royal Society and the OPT may sound like crazy nutcases, but unfortunately for us, they are extremely influential within the environmental movement. They are also far from alone in their thinking.

GENEVA – The world's largest atom smasher threw together minuscule particles racing at unheard of speeds in conditions simulating those just after the Big Bang — a success that kick-started a megabillion-dollar experiment that could one day explain how the universe began.Scientists cheered Tuesday's historic crash of two proton beams, which produced three times more energy than researchers had created before and marked a milestone for the $10 billion Large Hadron Collider.This is a huge step toward unraveling Genesis Chapter 1, Verse 1 — what happened in the beginning, physicist Michio Kaku told The Associated Press.This is a Genesis machine. It'll help to recreate the most glorious event in the history of the universe.Tuesday's smashup transforms the 15-year-old collider from an engineering project in test phase to the world's largest ongoing experiment, experts say. The crash that occurred on a subatomic scale is more about shaping our understanding of how the universe was created than immediate improvements to technology in our daily lives.

The power produced will ramp up even more in the future as scientists at the European Organization for Nuclear Research, or CERN, watch for elusive particles that have been more theorized than seen on Earth.The consequences of finding those mysterious particles could affect our conception of who we are in the universe, said Kaku, co-founder of string field theory and author of the book Physics of the Impossible.Physicists, usually prone to caution and nuance, tripped over themselves in superlatives praising the importance of the Large Hadron Collider and the significance of its generating regular science experiments.This is the Jurassic Park for particle physicists,said Phil Schewe, a spokesman for the American Institute of Physics. He called the collider a time machine.Some of the particles they are making now or are about to make haven't been around for 14 billion years.The first step in simulating the moments after the Big Bang nearly 14 billion years ago was to produce a tiny bang. The most potent force on the tiny atomic level that man has ever created came Tuesday.Two beams of protons were sent hurtling in opposite directions toward each other in a 17-mile (27-kilometer) tunnel below the Swiss-French border — the coldest place in the universe at slightly above absolute zero. CERN used powerful superconducting magnets to force the two beams to cross; two of the protons collided, producing 7 trillion electron volts.

It's bizarrely both a record high and a small amount of energy.

It's a record on the atom-by-atom basis that physicists use to measure pure energy, Schewe said. By comparison, burning wood or any other chemical reaction on an atom scale produces one electron volt. Splitting a single uranium atom in a nuclear reaction produces 1 million electron volts. This produces — on an atom-by-atom scale — 7 million times more power than a single atom in a nuclear reaction, Schewe said.The reason this is safe has to do with the amount of particles in the collider. Tuesday's success involved just two protons making energy, instead of pounds of uranium, Schewe said.Kaku, a professor at City College of New York, described the amount of energy produced as less than the total energy made by two mosquitoes crashing.The successful collision was viewed by scientists watching monitors, who cheered the results.That's it! They've had a collision, said Oliver Buchmueller of Imperial College in London.Across the world at the California Institute of Technology in Los Angeles, researchers and students watched reports from Switzerland. It marks the beginning of a new era of exploration in a new range of energy, said physics professor Harvey Newman. Nature does it all the time with cosmic rays (and with higher energy), but this is the first time this is done in Laboratory! said another tweet. Now the beams will become stronger, more densely packed with hundreds of billions of protons, and run daily for two years to give scientists many more chances to find elusive particles. Even then, the particles are so tiny that relatively few protons will collide at each point where the beams cross in front of cathedral-sized detectors.

The data generated is expected to reveal even more about the unanswered questions of particle physics, such as the existence of antimatter and the search for the Higgs boson, a hypothetical particle — often called the God particle — that scientists theorize gives mass to other particles and thus to other objects and creatures in the universe. The collider also may help scientists see dark matter, the strange stuff that makes up more of the universe than normal matter but has not been seen on Earth.Those particles are the missing piece from a jigsaw puzzle with thousands of pieces that explain the physics of the universe, Kaku said. It could help in the elusive theory that explains everything. In the past, every time we unraveled a force (of physics) it changed human history, Kaku said.Now we're talking about all forces.He compared it to events such as the Industrial Revolution, the electric and the nuclear age. Such events followed breakthroughs made by Isaac Newton, Thomas Edison and Albert Einstein. It won't happen immediately, maybe centuries down the line, but it could answer questions about the Big Bang, alternate universes and whether time travel is possible, Kaku said.

It would change people's philosophy,he said.

The atmosphere at CERN was tense considering the collider's launch with great fanfare on Sept. 10, 2008. Nine days after its inauguration, the project was sidetracked when a badly soldered electrical splice overheated, causing extensive damage to the massive magnets and other parts of the collider some 300 feet (100 meters) below the ground. It cost $40 million to repair and improve the machine. Since its restart in November 2009, the collider has performed almost flawlessly and given scientists valuable data. It quickly eclipsed the next largest accelerator — the Tevatron at Fermilab near Chicago. Future experiments will follow over the objections of some who fear they could eventually imperil Earth by creating micro black holes — subatomic versions of collapsed stars whose gravity is so strong they can suck in planets and other stars. CERN and many scientists dismiss any threat to Earth or people, saying that any such holes would be so weak that they would vanish almost instantly. In the universe, where black holes collide, this is nothing, Kaku said. From Nature's point of view, she laughs and says this is a peashooter, Kaku said. Bivek Sharma, a professor at the University of California at San Diego, said the images of the first crashed proton beams were beautiful.It's taken us 25 years to build,he said.This is what it's for. BUCHAREST, Romania – The international drive to reform financial regulation is losing steam as signs of recovery in the global economy decrease leaders' sense of urgency, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund warned Tuesday.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn said the economic crisis revealed the need for global answers.But as the turmoil eases,the momentum (for cross border regulations) is vanishing.Speaking in Bucharest during a one-day visit to Romania, Strauss-Kahn urged countries to pool their efforts to reform regulation.Global economy is a reality. You have to deal with this (...) and put more stress on cooperation, he said.The IMF chief said that if a similar crisis were to happen in the future,it would be difficult, if not impossible, for governments to ask taxpayers to pay again to bailout the banks. BUCHAREST (AFP) – Europe is in danger of being relegated to the second division of world economic powers, while the United States and Asia bounce out of the global downturn, the head of the IMF warned on Tuesday.The risk for European economies is to be in the second league and not in the first, with the United States and Asia, International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn said in an address to students in Bucharest.There is a probability that, if Europeans do not act swiftly, in 10 or 20 years' time the fight will be between the US and Asia, while Europe will be left aside,he added during a brief visit to ex-communist Romania.Strauss-Kahn said that although the economic situation was better than a year ago, Europe's rebound was still slow.Recovery is going fast in some parts of the world, such as Asia, not so bad in Latin America and probably going to accelerate in the United States.

What about Europe? Europe is still lagging behind, he warned.His comments came as the IMF slashed its forecast for growth in Germany -- Europe's biggest economy -- to 1.2 percent this year, down from a projection of 1.5 percent, warning that recovery would be moderate and fragile.Europe as a whole faces anaemic growth and public finance troubles in the coming months as a result of the global economic crisis.The IMF also told Italy that its economic recovery would be modest and it should implement fiscal discipline and implement structural reforms.Meanwhile the central bank Portugal, which some analysts fear faces a debt crisis similar to the one in Greece, cut the growth forecast there to a meagre 0.4 percent compared to a 0.7-percent earlier prediction.In Britain, revised data showed the gross domestic product there grew by 0.4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2009, a slightly better performance than previously thought, but analysts agreed the outlook remained weak.

CANCUN, Mexico (Reuters) – OPEC officials on Tuesday appeared undecided on how to respond if oil prices rose definitively above the $70-80 a barrel range they have praised this month, highlighting a looming challenge for the cartel.Although prices have held calmly within this band for much of 2010, U.S. crude, currently around $82 a barrel, is near the top of its recent range, and some analysts said it could push even higher as demand from the United States and other industrialized nations rebounds as their economies recover.Some major consumers at the biannual International Energy Forum (IEF) agreed with OPEC members' claims the $70-80 price was good for both sides, providing sufficient revenues for producers and incentives to build new projects but not so high as to choke off growth in importing nations.

But there was no sign of a clear consensus by OPEC members at what price they would ramp up production if prices broke above the band Saudi Arabian Oil Minister Ali al-Naimi this week called most appropriate.Prices above $85 for a sustained period of time could well be harmful. We have to be aware that the economic recovery is still fragile,an OPEC delegate told Reuters on the sidelines of the forum, which is aimed at promoting dialog between oil consumers and producers.Naimi did not respond to questions about whether $85 a barrel would mean a rise in output. Asked the same question, a person familiar with Saudi thinking said simply: No.Algerian Oil Minister Chakib Khelil stressed that oil markets could sustain the current oil price for six months to a year, and that OPEC had no specific target price that would trigger an increase in production.Some members of the cartel aren't waiting for a policy decision to gradually step up production. BAGHDAD – Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's postelection strategy suggests he is prepared for a long and bitter fight to hold on to power, even if it alienates the country's Sunni community and risks new sectarian warfare.The Iraqi leader is trying all sorts of legal maneuvers to deny victory to his chief opponent, former prime minister Ayad Allawi, whose secular, nationalist bloc won the most parliamentary seats in the March 7 elections and presumably the right to try to form a new government.Even if al-Maliki sticks with nominally legal measures, he risks serious damage to all the efforts to ease sectarian tensions which had begun to bear fruit three years after the U.S. troop surge. A resurgence of major violence would complicate U.S. plans to withdraw all its forces from Iraq by the end of next year.

The showdown has cast a spotlight on Iraq's judicial process, which some have said is far from independent and often subject to outside pressures. And in such a young democracy with little institutional knowledge or precedent upon which to draw, the constitution and laws passed by parliament are not always clear.No issue is potentially more explosive than a committee's attempts to disqualify some winning candidates because of ties to Saddam Hussein's regime. Sunnis view the committee, led by a Shiite with ties to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, as nothing other than a group dedicated to purging Sunnis from government.While al-Maliki does not directly control the committee, he has certainly benefited from its actions and has done little to deter it. At least four candidates targeted by the committee are from Allawi's party list, which includes many Sunnis and won significant voter support from the minority sect. If a court disqualifies enough candidates to tilt the race in al-Maliki's favor, that would be a huge provocation to Sunnis.Even before the final vote tallies were announced Friday, al-Maliki was maneuvering to put himself in a better position, likely sensing the results were not going his way.The prime minister went to the Supreme Court on Thursday and asked for a legal definition of what constitutes the largest bloc. The constitution says the coalition with the largest bloc in parliament gets the first crack at forming a government.

Allawi's Iraqiya list has argued that this means their 91 seats — al-Maliki's State of Law list won 89 — give them the first opportunity.But the court ruled that the largest bloc could also be one created after election day through negotiations, giving al-Maliki time to find new partners and outmaneuver Allawi.If al-Maliki forms a government with a rival Shiite bloc, excluding Iraqiya entirely, Sunnis could feel disenfranchised, said Meghan L. O'Sullivan, a professor at Harvard University's Kennedy School and a former deputy national security adviser on Iraq for President George W. Bush.The Sunnis perceive that they `won' this election in the sense that Allawi, who was the person that they put most of their votes and support behind, has the most number of parliamentary seats. So their inability to be in government, or even be given the chance to try to form a government, after they won, could be explosive,O'Sullivan said in an interview posted online by the Council on Foreign Relations.O'Sullivan said that although al-Maliki and Allawi, both Shiites, share an Arab nationalist outlook and a desire for a more centralized state, personality issues make a governing coalition between their two blocs highly unlikely.Sunnis, and even many Shiites, also suspect that al-Maliki is not sufficiently independent of Iran.

GATINEAU, Quebec (Reuters) – The world's leading industrial nations called on Tuesday for stronger action against Iran over its nuclear program and the United States said it was confident China would agree on the need for sanctions.Foreign ministers from the Group of Eight nations urged the international community to take appropriate and strong steps to show its resolve over the nuclear program, which Tehran insists is purely peaceful.Western members of the U.N. Security Council are pushing for a fourth round of sanctions against Iran, which many nations suspect is trying to develop nuclear weapons.China -- which, as a permanent council member, can veto the move -- has traditionally been cool to the idea of punishing Iran further. Diplomats say Beijing is slowly losing patience but still favors a diplomatic solution.I believe we are making progress ... We see a growing awareness on the part of many countries, including China, as to the consequences of a nuclear-armed Iran, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said at the end of the meeting in Gatineau, Quebec, just outside Ottawa.Noting that sanctions were a part of diplomacy, she said Iran had repeatedly shown an unwillingness to fulfill its international obligations over the last 15 months.That's the basis on which I express my optimism that we're going to have a consensus reached in the Security Council, Clinton told a news conference.

S.Korea military on alert after warship sinking

BAENGNYEONG ISLAND, South Korea (AFP) – South Korea said Wednesday it has ordered all government officials to stay on emergency alert until the crisis sparked by the mysterious sinking of a warship is resolved.The officials have been told not to take leave and to stay alert even while off-duty in case of emergencies, the home ministry said, reiterating an instruction first issued Saturday.The 655,000-strong military and the police force was also ordered on heightened readiness after an unexplained blast tore a 1,200-tonne corvette in two Friday night near the tense border with North Korea in the Yellow Sea.A huge search for 46 missing sailors, which has claimed the life of one naval rescue diver, was suspended Wednesday due to stormy seas.The military officially refuses to abandon hope but officers said privately there was no chance anyone could still be alive in watertight compartments inside the sunken hull.Seoul has not cited any evidence the North was involved, although the defence minister has said a North Korean mine -- either drifting or deliberately placed -- might have caused the disaster.The disputed border was the scene of deadly naval clashes in 1999 and 2002 and of a firefight last November.

Navy chief Kim Sung-Chan has said the ship's munitions storage room did not appear to have exploded and the ship was broken in two because of powerful outside pressure or an (exterior) explosion.Dong-A Ilbo newspaper said US and South Korean intelligence had satellite photos showing submersible craft moving in and out of a west coast base at Sagot in North Korea before and after the sinking.North Korean submersible or semi-submersible craft often disappear and return, and it is difficult to link it to the incident in a decisive manner, it quoted a Seoul government source as saying.

The defence ministry said it could not comment on the report.

A total of 58 people were rescued from the bow section of the 88-metre (290-foot) ship soon after the sinking.Hopes of finding more survivors faded Monday when divers heard no response after banging on the two sections of the sunken hull off Baengnyeong island. But angry and tearful relatives have been demanding swifter rescue action.Dozens of divers have braved the Yellow Sea's strong currents and frigid and murky waters, trying in vain to get inside the hull. One of them, father of two Han Joo-Ho, fell unconscious Tuesday and later died.Defence ministry spokesman Won Tae-Jae said waves Wednesday were up to 2.5 metres high and winds and currents were strong.He said divers have managed to open some hatches but have not penetrated inside the hull. It was hoped work would resume later in the day.

WASHINGTON (AFP) – Weeks after warning that ties were in disarray, China is signaling a readiness to work with the United States but fresh disputes could set back relations just as quickly, analysts say.China on Monday praised the positive attitude of President Barack Obama after he voiced support for a greater relationship with the rising Asian power in receiving its new ambassador.The calls for cooperation come despite two angry Chinese protests since the beginning of the year after Obama approved an arms package to Beijing's rival Taiwan and met with Tibet's exiled spiritual leader the Dalai Lama.This was a nice symbolic movement on which the two countries could agree to change the tenor, said Nina Hachigian, a China expert at the Center for American Progress, a left-leaning think-tank.It was optically very easy to show that relations are improving,she said.But there are plenty of things coming up that could derail the relationship.Chief among them is currency. Some 130 lawmakers have called on Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to declare that China is manipulating its yuan's value for trade advantage -- and have threatened legislation if he does not.

The Treasury will make its decision in a report due on April 15. It comes days after Obama holds a major summit in Washington on nuclear security to which China's leaders have not yet RSVPed.If it finds China to be a manipulator, China will find it very irritating and relations could turn rocky again, Hachigian said.Other potential disputes include human rights, climate change and Internet freedom after Google reported cyberattacks by China. Turkey asks Germany for help if EU bid stalls

ISTANBUL (Reuters) – Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan asked visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday to help Turkey if its bid for EU membership becomes deadlocked, most probably because of a dispute with Cyprus.Merkel has said Turkey's negotiations to join the 27-nation bloc were open-ended, but has advocated that Turkey opts for a privileged partnership with the European Union.Turkey is adamant that it wants nothing less than full membership, and is frustrated by the slow progress. The biggest obstacle it faces relates to a dispute with Cyprus.Turkey has opened 12 out of 35 negotiating chapters, covering different policy areas, since starting formal entry talks in 2005. But 18 chapters are blocked, mostly because of Cyprus.Attending a meeting of Turkish and German business leaders with Merkel, Erdogan spoke of the danger of deadlock if Turkey completes the other chapters by the end of this year.What will happen next? said Erdogan, raising the question of whether the remaining chapters could be revised or the European Union would take a new decision on the issue. We would expect much from Germany at that point,Erdogan said.Negotiations are still suspended in eight areas that were frozen by the EU in 2006 because of Turkey's failure to comply with a 2005 agreement -- known as the Ankara Protocol -- to open its airports and ports to Cyprus.

Turkey wants the European Union to first end its isolation of Turkish Cypriots living in the north of the divided island, and it hopes that reunification talks will bear fruit.Turkish Cypriots in 1983 declared a separate state, which is only recognized by Turkey.Turkish officials now fear that if Turkish Cypriot President Mehmet Ali Talat loses an election next month the reunification talks would suffer a setback and Turkey's drive for EU membership would hit a roadblock.Merkel, on the second and final day of her visit to Turkey, said the Ankara Protocol had to be addressed to make progress.We should advance pragmatically. Advancing pragmatically means continuing the negotiating process. We discussed that the Ankara protocol is probably at the moment the biggest obstacle,she said.It is the reason for some chapters not being opened.Aside from the chapters suspended by the EU, Cyprus has blocked a further six chapters, while France has blocked four economic chapters.

Turkish membership is a divisive issue in Europe. ROME – A huge chunk of a 2,000-year-old gallery in the complex including Emperor Nero's fabled Golden Palace collapsed on Tuesday, Rome's art officials said.

Firefighters searched the area, but found no victims, leading officials to say they believed nobody was inside when the structure collapsed around 10 a.m. Nero's nearby Palace had been closed as workers were doing repairs.The sumptuous palace — built by the infamous Roman emperor Nero in the 1st century A.D. — is known to many by its Latin name Domus Aurea. With its frescoed halls and gold-encrusted ceilings, it was meant as a fabled residence for one of Rome's most depraved emperors.About 60-80 square meters (645-860 square feet) of vault ceiling in one of the galleries crumpled beneath a garden frequented by tourists and passers-by.Though heavy rains in recent months may have contributed to the collapse, they would not have been the main cause, said Umberto Broccoli of Rome's artistic superintendence.There are 1,900 years of history,Broccoli said.Two months of rain are not responsible for this. It would have happened anyway.Officials suggested tree roots may also have contributed, having grown through the earth above the gallery.Broccoli said the main part of the palace was unscathed, but there was damage also to another gallery built after Nero by Emperor Hadrian.

It was one of the area's biggest collapses in 50 years, art official Antonello Vodret said, according to the Apcom news agency.The incident rekindled doubts over the stability of the site, which was shut down for 18 years until 1999 over structural concerns, which still at times force temporary closures. Water infiltration is another problem.The palace originally sprawled across nearly 200 acres (80 hectares) and occupied parts of four of Rome's seven ancient hills.Nero himself did not enjoy it for very long, as it was completed in A.D. 68, the same year he committed suicide.For centuries the complex lay under a hill before coming to light 500 years ago when Renaissance scholars began researching the imperial period.Officials pledged to begin restoring the palace this week, and estimated it would cost euro800,000 ($1 million) and take one year.This is a small episode which indicates that the great cultural heritage of this country needs some attention and love,Rome archaeological official Roberto Cecchi said.Associated Press Writer Elisa Bailey in Rome contributed to this report.

Canadian dollar up for 2nd day, bonds fall; eyes on GDP

TORONTO (Reuters) – The Canadian dollar hit a one-week high against the U.S. dollar on Tuesday, helped by a positive tone in oil and stock markets, but stayed rigidly within recent ranges ahead of monthly economic growth data.The Canadian dollar, along with its commodity-linked currency cousins, the Australian and New Zealand dollars, were strong performers overnight on the back of firmer base metal prices and a slight advance in the price of oil, a major Canadian export.The Canadian dollar ended at C$1.0195 to the U.S. dollar, or 98.09 U.S. cents, up from C$1.0207 to the U.S. dollar, or 97.97 U.S. cents, at Monday's close.It reached a session high at C$1.0157 to the U.S. dollar, or 98.45 U.S. cents, but handed back some gains ahead of Wednesday's seasonally adjusted gross domestic product figures for January.

Economists expect a 0.5 percent gain in GDP, which would add weight to the view that the Canadian economy is in recovery.The big news for Canada this week is tomorrow's GDP report,said Doug Porter, deputy chief economist at BMO Capital Markets.It would actually be the fifth month in a row of solid gains. With revisions, we actually ended last year at quite a nice clip, and it looks like, if anything, the economy gathered steam at the start of the year.The data could help push the Canadian dollar higher and toward testing the near-parity levels against the greenback it visited about two weeks ago. Domestic factors, while strong, have largely taken a backseat to global risk sentiment in recent sessions.On Tuesday, for a second session, the ever-familiar risk theme was generally guiding currencies higher, said George Davis, chief technical analyst at RBC Capital Markets.Right now at least, the market seems to be a little bit more amenable or positive toward risk and that's benefiting the Canadian dollar,he said.

BOND PRICES DIP IN SLOW GRIND

Canadian bond prices eased with global equity markets on the rise and data that showed U.S. home prices were up for an eighth straight month.But the main drag came from the mounting view that the Bank of Canada will raise its key interest rate this year, and mostly with the first hike coming in the summer.It's a slow grind in Canada as the market slowly but surely braces for the inevitable Bank of Canada tightening, said Porter.The two-year government bond fell 4 Canadian cents to C$99.56 to yield 1.734 percent, while the 10-year bond lost 8 Canadian cents to C$101.30 to yield 3.582 percent.Canadian bonds outperformed their U.S. counterparts in the short end of the curve, but underperformed in the belly and further in the long end. The difference between 10-year yields narrowed 1.3 basis points to 27.9 basis points.

Hundreds of comments were posted in response to an incendiary story on infowars.com, the radical far-right Web site owned by radio host Alex Jones. The story, entitled, The Cost Of Defying Obamacare: $2,250 a Month And IRS Goons Pointing Guns At Your Family,focused on the increasing militarization of the IRS and its expansion of powers under the new health care law,writes Jana Winter.

The federal government is investigating dozens of death threats to IRS employees that have been posted online since the House passed the health care bill, Winter explains.The health care law has sparked protests on radical anti-tax and anti-government Web sites and within their private, password-protected e-mail lists and message boards. Some writers have labeled March 21 — the day the House passed the bill – Bloody Sunday, and they see it as a call to violent action against IRS workers.In addition to creating dozens of new bureaucracies – the Health Choices Administration, the Health Benefits Advisory Committee, the Health Insurance Exchange, and others – the Obamacare bill further empowers the IRS.Under the Democrats’ health care proposals, the already powerful — and already feared — IRS would wield even more power and extend its reach even farther into the lives of ordinary Americans, and the presidentially-appointed head of the new health care bureaucracy would have access to confidential IRS information about millions of individual taxpayers,notes Byron York, writing for the Washington Examiner.In response to this outrageous and unconstitutional power grab by the federal government, millions of people around the country have called and sent emails to Congress and the White House. Countless others have promised to not vote for Democrats or Republicans in the mid-term elections, a prospect that horrifies the establishment.

Instead of mentioning the fact Obamacare is vastly unpopular and the is IRS hated and feared by millions of Americans – and that an increasing number of them are no longer shy about expressing their outrage — Fox News would have you believe that anger is confined to a small number of anti-government websites, most notably Alex Jones’ Infowars.com. Reading Fox News, the casual reader would arrive at the conclusion that a large number of Infowars.com readers are locked and loaded and ready to attack IRS employees.In other words, Fox News, owned by the neocon Rupert Murdoch, is disseminating exactly the sort of propaganda the establishment has ordered up to demonize the growing and increasingly vocal opposition. Fox News is a cherished asset of Operation Mockingbird.Fox News’ mission is to buttress the false right-left paradigm and steer the opposition into the ranks of the Republican party. It has already successful sabotaged the Libertarian Tea Party movement. It must now demonize the remaining opposition.While these threats are being investigated, experts doubt there is much that law enforcement can do to predict if any of these commenters actually plan on taking action. The only thing certain is that the online community of anti-government extremists is growing, and it is increasingly being viewed by law enforcement as a threat, writes Winter.Fox News, CNN, and other corporate media outlets serving as government propaganda mills are attempting to turn attention on Alex Jones and make him a scapegoat for the isolated actions of a few people who have threatened government officials.

Fox’s own polling reveals a majority of Americans oppose Obama’s authoritarian health care. The latest Fox News poll finds that 55 percent oppose the healthcare reforms being deliberated on Capitol Hill, Newsmax reported on March 19.The 55 percent opposing reform is up from 51 percent in January, and from 47 percent in July. Opposition peaked at 57 percent in December.In addition, the poll reported that 75 percent of voters overall believe that the federal government does not represent their views.
