All eurozone states to contribute to Greek bail-out

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - All eurozone states have signalled their willingness to contribute to a potential Greek bail-out, with the region's leaders hammering out an agreement late on Thursday night (25 March).The exact details of how Athens would successfully trigger the new mechanism remain to be ironed out however, with any application for funds from the joint eurozone-IMF pot requiring unanimous euro member approval based on an assessment by the European Commission and the European Central Bank.You look at the situation and you make a judgement on the financial instability, said ECB president Jean-Claude Tricket after the agreement was struck, refusing to be drawn on whether a threshold bond yield would be used. Mr Trichet indicated that ECB officials had already been in discussion with counterparts from IMF, having earlier voiced concerns that a role for the Washington-based organisation could jeopardise the independence of the eurozone's central bank. However the European monetary chief said he was now happy that no one is putting this independence into question.European Council President Herman Van Rompuy indicated that any aid for Greece would come from both funding partners at the same time, and not one after the other. Greece, when they feel the need to make an appeal on the mechanism, they introduce their request immediately for a joint mechanism, he told journalists after the meeting.

All sides stressed their belief that the eurozone agreement would be sufficient in reducing Greece's borrowing costs however, without the need for Athens to call on financial support.Market doubts in recent months over the Greek administration's ability to meet upcoming debt obligations have sent the country's borrowing costs spiralling upwards. Leaders also said they did not expect Portugal to encounter similar difficulties to those experienced by by Greece, despite a recent credit rating downgrade. On Portugal, the problem really is quite different, said Mr Van Rompuy.The statistical fraud very much called into question the credibility of any measures or initiatives taken in Greece.

Economic governance

A final section in the eurozone leaders' declaration calls for greater economic co-ordination between member states, in order to prevent a similar crisis taken place in the future. Mr Van Rompuy has been asked to establish a task force, in co-operation with the Commission, to draw up measures by the end of the year on how to achieve this aim. French President Nicolas Sarkozy rejected the idea that sanctions could be involved. We need to reconsider co-ordination of fiscal policies in order to avoid crises,he said.I don't want to prejudge any of the working party's conclusions, but financial sanctions are a rather odd idea.European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso denied that Mr Van Rompuy's central role amounted to a reduction in commission powers. For a long time the commission has been asking the European Council to take on a more important role,he said.

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - France and Germany have brokered an emergency financing mechanism to help Greece, following extensive bilateral negotiations between the two sides earlier on Thursday (25 March).Under the deal, approved by eurozone leaders after late evening talks, a funding package will be created, made up of voluntary contributions from euro area countries and cash from the International Monetary Fund. With the document dominated by German thinking, France is claiming a reduced IMF role as its negotiating victory. As part of a package involving substantial International Monetary Fund financing and a majority of European financing, euro area member states are ready to contribute to co-ordinated bilateral loans,says an earlier Franco-German text.Diplomats suggested the pot for Greece could total €22 billion, with Athens reportedly welcoming the deal. However, the mechanism is theoretically open to all 16 euro area states, not just Greece, with any disbursements requiring further unanimous eurozone approval. In addition, payouts will be subject to strong conditionality and based on an assessment by the European Commission and the European Central Bank.Echoing earlier demands made by Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel, the one-page document says the mechanism must be considered as a last resort, a bid to help the German leader persuade her citizens ahead of crucial regional elections that support for Greece is also in their interest.While contributions are to be made on a voluntary basis, its authors say they expect euro-member states to participate on the basis of their respective ECB capital key,an index which relates to a country's GDP.

Loans provided from the fund will also be subject to non-concessional interest rates, i.e., not contain any subsidy element, in a bid to encourage borrowers to return to capital markets as quickly as possible. Analysts have suggested in recent weeks that Ms Merkel's earlier reluctance to agree to a mechanism stemmed in part from concerns over potential legal challenges regarding EU Treaty and German constitutional rules. Decisions under this mechanism will be taken in full consistency with the [EU] Treaty framework and national laws,says the text.The plans also envisage greater European economic co-ordination in the future, and provide for the European Council under Herman Van Rompuy to play a greater role.We consider that the European Council should become the economic government of the European Union and we propose to increase its role in economic surveillance, says the document. German finance minister Wolfgang Schaeuble recently called for eurozone rules to be significantly tightened, including the possibility of expelling members that repeatedly flaunt restrictions.

For the future, surveillance of economic and budgetary risks and the instruments for their prevention, including the excessive deficit procedure, must be strengthened. Moreover, we need a robust framework for crisis resolution,says the text. Mr Van Rompuy has been asked to form a task force composed of representatives from the member states, the ECB and the European Commission to present plans by the end of the year regarding the need for legal changes in this area.It was only at the last minute however that the presence of the commission was added into the mix.

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - A senior Chinese official entered the debate on the heath of Europe's economy on Thursday (25 March) saying the current crisis surrounding Greece should not be seen as an isolated problem.Greece is only one case, but it's only a tip of the iceberg, People's Bank of China Deputy Governor Zhu Min told an investment forum in Hong Kong.Mr Zhu added that the main concern today obviously is Spain and Italy, reports Dow Jones Newswires. The comments were made only hours before EU leaders were set to meet in Brussels to discuss economic issues, and a day after fresh turmoil swept through the 16-member eurozone. On Wednesday, Fitch ratings agency downgraded Portugal's credit worthiness, sending the euro currency to a 10-month low against the dollar and highlighting the region's fragile economic situation. In Brussels, Chinese diplomats insisted that Beijing was hoping for a quick resolution to Athens' woes, as the Greek administration struggles under a €300 billion debt pile and punishingly high borrowing costs. We hope that the fiscal situation in Greece will be properly resolved, a spokesman for the Chinese EU mission, Wang Xining, told this website. I don't think he [Mr Zhu] made the remarks to intentionally harm the European economy. I doubt he imagined his comments would be strong enough to do that,Mr Wang added.

Euro slides amid fears over Portuguese austerity package

The euro slid to a 10-month low against the US dollar on Wednesday (24 March) following a downgrading of Portugal's credit rating by Fitch, a leading ratings agency, as investors fear that Lisbon will be unable to push through its draconian package of austerity measures and a European-led solution to the ongoing Greek crisis appears increasingly distant.The European currency fell 1.3 percent to $1.33 against the dollar, a level not seen since May 2009.The drop came as Fitch downgraded Portugal's long-term default ratings to AA- from AA due to significant budgetary underperformance in 2009.A sizeable fiscal shock against a backdrop of relative macroeconomic and structural weaknesses has reduced Portugal's creditworthiness,said Fitch's Douglas Renwick in a statement.Following the move, the Lisbon stock market fell two percent. Meanwhile, the country's debt has now reached 76.6 per cent of GDP.In order to avoid a similar situation to fellow eurozone member Greece, which is finding it increasingly expensive to borrow from money markets amid worries of a sovereign debt default, Portugal's centre-left Socialist minority government has proposed a sweeping package of cuts to assuage investor fears.The government of Jose Socrates has announced plans to slash the public deficit from 9.3 percent of GDP to under three percent by 2013 by freezing government salaries, cutting social programmes and a blitz of privatisation of public holdings in 17 different enterprises.

The opposition conservatives have yet to say whether they will support the austerity package while the far-left Left Bloc and Communist Party, upon whose votes the government depends, have denounced the measures as violent and anti-worker and intend to vote against.The government has in turn warned that a vote against the bill would effectively visit the Greek crisis upon the Iberian country as well.Under the current situation of nervousness and volatility in the international financial markets ...it is essential for Portugal to show a firm political commitment to implement its growth and stability programme, the finance ministry said in a statement in response to the ratings downgrade.The euro slide also comes as European leaders prepare to meet in Brussels for their spring summit. They are expected to discuss how to make it easier for Athens to borrow money, although the EU's paymaster Germany now backs an International Monetary Fund solution to the crisis, which is also supported by a number of northern member states and France.

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - In a bid to convince the European Commission to sign up to her plans for a European diplomatic service, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton has been forced to make an awkward power-sharing compromise in development policy, worth billions of euros annually.Announcing the proposals on Thursday (25 March) a week earlier than expected, the EU's top diplomat said the service would strengthen the coherence and effectiveness of the EU's global role.Since taking up her post in December, Ms Ashton has been struggling to manage the competing views of member states and the European Commission over the content and scope of the service.

One of the most bitter battles concerned the EU's development policy, whose €30 billion fund across six years has until now been managed by the commission.The published blueprint attempts to draw a line under this struggle. Ms Ashton and her diplomatic service will be in charge of the development budget, controlling how much money a country would get as well as having the strategic overview, while the commission would manage the implementation of the policy.In essence, Ms Ashton would be the policy maker and the commission the agent that implements it.But the lines of decision-making have been blurred because the blueprint stresses that development decisions should be prepared by both the service and the commission under the direct supervision and guidance of Andris Piebalgs, the development commissioner.A similarly cumbersome arrangement has also been suggested for the EU's neighbourhood policy, another area over which the commission was reluctant to abandon control.

MEPs, smarting at the fact that Ms Ashton has not taken on board their suggestion to limit the purview of the powerful secretary-general position by appointing political figures to deputise her, called it a recipe for incoherence.Denying that that the proposed set-up would lead to infighting, Ms Ashton said she considered it the perfect solution of synergy between ...the role of the commissioners and the role of the External Action Service.The British peer also said she would try to ensure geographical balance in the service, a point repeatedly made by eastern European member states, as well as to ensure that sufficient numbers of women make it into the corps.

Poul Skytte Christoffersen, a Danish career diplomat who is now her top aide, admitted he was surprised how strongly the member states felt about proper representation in the service but said the idea had now penetrated the thinking on the new institution.Preliminary scrutiny of job seekers will be carried out by an advisory panel with representatives from the commission, council and member states. The final decision on the subsequent shortlist will be taken by Ms Ashton, who will then take into account geography and gender.An explanatory note on the service outline suggests that officials should be regularly rotated and that Ms Ashton will take steps to set up common training for diplomats within a year of the service being established. It also outlines the chain of command, saying that the heads of the EU's 136 delegations abroad are answerable to Ms Ashton and are responsible for the day-to-day running of their embassies.However, in another potential muddle, a draft staff regulation - a legal document which has to be altered to accommodate the service - notes that the heads of delegation will sometimes also have to take orders from the commission, when their work concerns commission business.Ms Ashton's proposal needs to be approved by member states. The European parliament also has a de facto veto as it needs to agree to changes to the financial and staff regulations - the latter to allow national diplomats to be a part of the service.

MEPs' reactions to the proposals so far have been universally critical. A joint statement by centre-right, Socialist, Liberal and Green deputies said the proposal is not acceptable to the parliament and threatened not to approve the technical changes allowing the establishment of the service.

Ashton secures deal on new diplomatic service

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton has finalised her blueprint for the EU's first ever diplomatic service after the European Commission on Wednesday (24 March) agreed to give her key powers over the EU's multi-billion euro annual development budget.According to UK daily The Guardian, Ms Ashton will be in charge of regional and country strategy in the development field. The service, expected to contain around 7,000 people when it is fully established, will also be in charge of drawing up the strategic priorities for the EU's neighbourhood policy, dealing with countries on its borders.These two areas had been the subject of a fierce battle between Ms Ashton and the commission, which had been determined to hang on to as many of its powers as possible.According to an EU official, the deal represents a workable compromise with the external action service involved in three of the five steps of the planning cycle for development, while the commission is in charge of two. Under the set-up, Ms Ashton will head the service and also be responsible for appointing its staff, which the treaty specifies should be divided equally among the commission, the council and member states. Staff are to have the same rights and obligations whether they come from the commission, the council secretariat or from national diplomatic services.The blueprint, expected to be circulated today, comes a week earlier than had been expected. But it still needs to be agreed by member states, while MEPs have co-decision powers over staffing and financial rules, which need to be changed to accommodate the service.

Deputies have raised concerns about the secretary general of the new corps, saying that in the proposed set-up the person will be too powerful and will lack political accountability. The parliament is also arguing that Ms Ashton, who has a busy and often conflicting schedule, needs political deputies to represent her in the meetings she is unable to personally attend. This in turn has raised concerns from the part of some member states who believe the parliament will try and play political games with the deputies, dictating which political family they come from.
Meanwhile, member states are concerned that commission officials are dominating the service. Governments are already lining up to get a national into key jobs. Around six CVs have been sent in for the job of head of the EU delegation in China. In addition, a group of 11 smaller member states, led by Austria, has clubbed together to complain about representation in the service. They say they will only have a few diplomats each, with the service slated to have around 100 places for national diplomats at the beginning.Ms Ashton has said she is aware of the need for the balance in the staff but said it will take time to make it happen, with the service expected to take some years before it fully equipped.The British peer had been hoping to have agreement on the blueprint by the end of next month. However, the potential disputes mean the technical decisions to get the service up and running, such as on the staffing regulation, may see it delayed to summer or early autumn.

EU prepares new bank data deal with US

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS – A new deal allowing American investigators to monitor European bank transactions in the search for terrorist funding could be concluded by summer, the European Commission has said while presenting its negotiation mandate.
The Americans want to start negotiations immediately, and we have good hopes that we might be able to finalise this by the summer,EU home affairs commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom said on Wednesday (24 March) during a press briefing outlining the principles she would follow as lead negotiator on the matter. Informally dubbed the Swift agreement after the eponymous Belgium-based company facilitating international bank transfers, an interim deal allowing US investigators to acquire bulk data on European transactions in the search for terrorist funding was rejected in February by the European Parliament. Lawmakers were dissatisfied with the level of data protection as well as over being sidelined from negotiations that took place last year under the rotating Swedish EU presidency, when Ms Malmstrom was the country's EU affairs minister.The rejection came despite intense lobbying from both member states and US officials, putting a strain on Europe's relations with the Obama administration and prompting diplomats to complain that the parliament was displaying a lack of responsibility in dealing with security matters.

The Swedish politician stressed that the new mandate would take the parliament's concerns into account, including regular reporting to the parliament.I think we have learned important lessons from history here ...The commission must make sure that we have the highest possible level of protection for individual data, and that is something that we hope to accomplish with this, Ms Malmstrom said.She stressed that the programme has helped European investigators as well, as US investigators tipped off their European counterparts whenever they found leads on terrorist financing which fell in their scope.Set up in the aftermath of the 2001 attacks on New York and Washington, the US terrorism financing tracking programme tapped on a mirror data base Swift was maintaining on American soil. After news broke that the Europeans were unaware of this, Swift decided to re-configure its servers starting with January 2010, so that European data is no longer mirrored in the US. The interim agreement was aimed at avoiding a security gap,allowing the information to flow uninterrupted to US authorities.EU justice commissioner Viviane Reding suggested that one solution could be for the EU to set up its system for tracking such financing itself.We partly rely on the capacity of the Americans to analyse the data ...we need to build up something similar,she said.Such a prospect remains distant, as it would have to be agreed by member states, taking into account the costs it would involve in setting it up, Ms Malmstrom replied.First reactions from MEPs handling the file indicate that a second deal would face less opposition, after deputies ironed out the inter-institutional power struggle.Dutch Liberal MEP Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the MEP shepherding the dossier through the chamber and the deputy recommending the former agreement be scrapped, welcomed the commission's proposals.

I am encouraged by the inclusion of greater transparency, effective rights to redress and rectification, ...limitations on scope and length of data storage, prohibition of data forwarding to third countries and to reciprocity whereby the EU would develop its own terrorist finance tracking system rather than outsourcing intelligence gathering to the US,Ms Plasschaert said in a statement.Once approved by member states, the mandate will allow the commission to lead the negotiations with the US authorities. The final agreement will then require both the national governments and the parliament's approval.

Netanyahu returned Thursday from a round of meetings in the US during which he was asked to restrict the construction of housing for Jews in parts of the capital city. Right wing MK's and groups are making efforts to show Netanyahu that mainstream Israel is with him on this issue.Most Israeli mainstream media, however, described the meetings as a failure. The US hoped to talk Netanyahu into making major concessions to the Palestinian Authority, but Netanyahu refused to concede and said he would discuss the matter with his mini-Cabinet of seven senior ministers.The prime minister is to meet with the seven ministers on Friday to discuss the outcome of his talk with Obama, and to submit America's demands for their consideration.

Obama pushed Netanyahu to agree to extend the construction freeze in Judea and Samaria, to release hundreds of terrorists affiliated with PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah organization, and to deny Jews the right to build in parts of Jerusalem that were under Jordanian control between the years 1948 and 1967.

Obama Criticized over US-Engineered Deadlock
Obama's attempt to win Israeli concessions was criticized in America as well as in Israel. The Washington Post published an editorial this week terming the deadlock between Israel and the PA as a US-engineered deadlock.Author Jackson Diehl noted that each of Obama's demands on Israel led to Abbas declaring that the PA will not begin negotiating with Israel if the demand is not met. How could he do otherwise? Diehl asked.The Palestinian leader cannot be less pro-Palestinian than the White House.In addition to reducing the PA leadership's willingness to hold talks, Obama has added more poison to a U.S.-Israeli relationship that already was at its lowest point in two decades, Diehl continued. Netanyahu is being treated as if he were an unsavory Third World dictator, needed for strategic reasons but conspicuously held at arms length. That is something the rest of the world will be quick to notice and respond to,he said.Just like the Palestinians, European governments cannot be more friendly to an Israeli leader than the United States. (IsraelNN.com) Mayor Nir Barkat of Jerusalem said Thursday that construction in all parts of the city will continue and expressed his support for the Prime Minister for standing up to US President Barack Obama's pressure on the matter. Obama wanted Israel to freeze construction projects for Jews in the eastern part of the city while allowing projects for Arabs to progress without hindrance. Speaking at the municipal council meeting, Barkat said: I want to express my support for the Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu who protected Jerusalem during his visit to Washington.

I also want to utilize the podium of the municipal council to make clear to our important ally, the United States, that construction in Jerusalem will continue, he said.There is no freeze in Jerusalem. Jerusalem is a developing city, it has needs and we will continue to build in its eastern and western sides, for all of its inhabitants, Jews and Arabs,he added.

The city – founded as the Jewish capital by King David, 3,000 years ago – is currently using a zoning plan that has taken shape over the past decade, Barkat explained. The plan calls for about 50,000 housing units to be built throughout the city, in both its eastern and western sides. One third of the units are intended for the Arab sector and two-thirds for the Jewish sector – a reflection of the sectors' relative sizes.Some of the plans were approved in the past and some will be brought for approval in the coming years in the local and district committees, he clarified. The construction is being carried out in order to stop the emigration of young people from the city by making housing affordable for them, and to enable natural growth for the general public, Barkat said.Prime Minister Netanyahu arrived in Ben Gurion National Airport Thursday evening and will convene the seven-minister inner forum at 9:00 PM. JERUSALEM (AFP) – Israel vowed policy on Jerusalem would not change as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened his security cabinet on Friday to craft a response to US demands for peace-promoting concessions.Netanyahu returned Thursday from a tense visit to Washington that appeared to deepen a bitter row with the administration of President Barack Obama over the building of Jewish settlements, including in annexed Arab east Jerusalem.The prime minister's position is that there is no change in Israel's policy on Jerusalem that has been pursued by all governments of Israel for the last 42 years, his office said in a statement.And the Haaretz newspaper cited him as saying he has no intention of breaking his right-wing coalition to form a more centrist alliance.He also made it clear he refused to halt settlement construction in east Jerusalem because of his own beliefs and not because of pressure from the right, according to the newspaper.The Americans have reportedly demanded from Netanyahu a series of steps to help kickstart stalled peace talks with the Palestinians including halting settlement activity in Arab east Jerusalem.The hawkish premier was discussing the US demands with his inner forum of seven senior ministers.

PA Venture Capital: Gets $500 Million to Arabize Jerusalem

The money will be given to the Palestinian Authority, which says it will use it on behalf of PA Arabs living in the Israeli capital.Both the PA and Syria had submitted a request for aid prior to an Arab League summit scheduled for the weekend. Arab League secretary-general Amr Moussa agreed that funds should be allocated in order to stop Jewish settlement activity - a reference to Israeli construction in parts of the historically Jewish city that were controlled by Jordan from 1948 to 1967.

The PA claimed that Israel is attempting to Judaize Jerusalem.Arab and Muslim nations insist that the PA be granted a state in Judea, Samaria and Gaza with Jerusalem as its capital. Saudi Arabia created a fund in 2001 aimed at strengthening Arab life in the city, and the Islamic Conference Organization has called on Israel to avoid all measures aimed at making Jerusalem a Jewish city or intensifying Jewish settlement.In this vein, The PA attempts to discredit Jewish historical claims to Jerusalem and to destroy archaeological finds on the Temple Mount.The PA has been granted billions of dollars in aid over the past two years, primarily from the United States and Europe. Grandiose plan for east Jerusalem submitted

JERUSALEM – Jerusalem city hall has submitted a grandiose plan for hotels, businesses and new housing for Palestinians in the center of east Jerusalem.The plan calls for developing a large area across from the Old City wall for tourism and commerce, as well as 1,000 additional apartments.A statement said the proposal has been given to the local planning commission for debate. That's the first of many steps of approval before construction could begin. That could take years and could stall at any stage.A graphic accompanying the statement shows new housing built on top of present structures, indicating that the old buildings would not be destroyed.
The plan dates to 2008. In the past, Palestinians have objected, charging that vast areas would be bulldozed.

Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., and Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine for dangerously fanning the flames by suggesting these incidents be used as a political weapon.And Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, suggested Democratic Rep. Barney Frank of Massachusetts needs to toughen up, after Frank accused a Tea Party protester of hurling an anti-gay slur at him Saturday as the House closed in on passage of the overhaul bill.The back and forth comes as more lawmakers fall victim to acts of intimidation and one state political party attempts to financially exploit the ugliness of the health care debate.Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., is the latest lawmaker to face a threat after a suspicious envelope was sent to his community office where the New York Police Department sent a Haz-Mat team.Weiner said the envelope contained white powder and a threatening letter. As a result, he said he is closing his office until the investigation is completed.

My first priority is the safety of my staff and neighbors, and the authorities are currently taking steps to investigate and resolve the situation, he said in a statement.The Ohio Democratic Party sent out a fundraising e-mail to fight back against these types of vicious attacks between now and November.The e-mail highlighted a story in a local newspaper that identified the health care protester who hurled insults and dollar bills at a senior citizen with Parkinson's disease as a registered Republican.The organization asks for $10 contributions, saying a generous supporter has offered to match every online contribution for the next 72 hours to help us overcome these attacks.On Wednesday, Van Hollen told MSNBC that Republican leaders were pouring more and more gasoline on the flames. Kaine, in an interview with the Huffington Post, said Republican leaders are trying to stoke anger with lies.Cantor responded Thursday when he made a statement about the incident at his Richmond campaign office and the threatening e-mails he's been receiving.

Any suggestion that a leader in this body would incite threats or acts against other members is akin to saying that I would endanger myself, my wife or my children, he said.It is reckless to use these incidents as media vehicles for political gain.Doug Thornell, a spokesman for Van Hollen, shot back at Cantor, saying that instead of using an opportunity to join Van Hollen in calling for restraint, he chose to use his press conference to level false accusations.This is straight out of the Republicans' political playbook of deflecting responsibility and distracting attention away from a serious issue, he said.Democratic National Committee spokesman Brad Woodhouse also criticized Cantor's comments and renewed calls for Republicans to join Kaine in working to ratchet down the rhetoric, condemn deplorable behavior and find ways to disagree on these issues without the charged rhetoric that we've been hearing from Republican leaders.Let's be clear: calling on Republican leaders who have contributed in part to this anger by wildly mischaracterizing the substance and motives of health reform to condemn these acts is entirely appropriate, he said in a written statement.Brad Dayspring, a spokesman for Cantor, pushed back, saying Kaine should listen to Cantor's statement in which he repeatedly called for restraint and condemned violence.It's very simple, he said.If Chairman Van Hollen misspoke, he should correct the record, and if not, he and the DCCC should accept responsibility for their actions. The meeting, entitled Real change for a change, described itself as a snap shot of the current socialist movement in the United States.During a lengthy address available on YouTube, West declared socialism has a future.He stated, We are at a very crucial historical moment. My dear friend Barack Obama, he needs help. He needs deep help. He needs pressure. Organized, mobilized pressure.West went on to urge the crowd not to rely on messiahs or leaders,instead explaining the mantel for ushering socialist change into the country falls onto us. Obama named West, whom he has called a personal friend, to the Black Advisory Council of his presidential campaign. West was a key point man between Obama's campaign and the black community. West served as an adviser on Louis Farrakhan's Million Man March and is a self-described personal friend of the Nation of Islam leader. West authored two books on race with Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr, who was at the center of a recent controversy in which Obama criticized Gates' treatment by police outside his home after a report of a burglary.

It was West who introduced Obama at a 2007 Harlem fundraiser attended by about 1,500 people that served as Obama's first foray into Harlem after announcing his Democratic presidential candidacy. Cone's theology spawned Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama's controversial pastor for 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ. West was a strong defender of Wright when the pastor's extreme remarks became national news during the presidential campaign. In 1995, West signed a letter published as an ad in the New York Times that voiced support for cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal, a former Black Panther. In 2002, West further signed a Statement of Conscience crafted by Not In Our Name, a project of C. Clark Kissinger's Revolutionary Communist Party. The executive director of an activist organization modeled after Marxist community organizer Saul Alinsky and described as teaching tactics of direct action, confrontation and intimidation was part of the team that developed and delivered a group of volunteers for President Obama's 2008 campaign, WND has learned. Jackie Kendall, executive director of the Midwest Academy, was on the team that developed and delivered the first Camp Obama training for volunteers aiding Obama's campaign through the 2008 Iowa Caucuses. Camp Obama was a two-to-four day intensive course run in conjunction with Obama's campaign aimed at training volunteers to become activists to help Obama win the presidential election. WND reported last week a Chicago nonprofit on which Obama served as paid director provided startup capital and later funding to Midwest Academy. Also, in 1998, Obama participated on a panel discussion alongside Midwest Academy founder Heather Booth, an extremist organizer and dedicated disciple of Alinsky. Camp Obama served as an integral part of the president's campaign volunteer staff. Hans Riemer, who served as national youth vote director for the Obama campaign, said of the camp: We are training them, teaching them how to be effective, showing them what their role is in our strategy to win the election. ... We're taking people from raw enthusiasm to capable organizers.

Camp Obama director Jocelyn Woodards told reporters her job was to ensure volunteers had real concrete ways to be involved and organize in their local communities. We go through everything from canvassing, phone banking, volunteer recruitment, our campaign message, how to develop an organization locally.Another radical who taught at Camp Obama was Robert Creamer, a Chicago political consultant who pleaded guilty to bank fraud and withholding taxes while heading Citizen Action of Illinois. Citizen Action is a spin off of Midwest Academy. Creamer, husband of Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., one of Capitol Hill's most visible cheerleaders for Obama's health-care plan, wrote a book on how progressives can promote their agenda. The book was endorsed by Obama's senior adviser David Axelrod as providing a blueprint for future victories on reform. Creamer wrote that success in passing health-care reform could ensure a wave of progressive change.If we succeed in winning health insurance reform, we will have breached the gates of the status quo,he wrote.We will demonstrate that fundamental change is possible. Into that breach will flow a wave of progressive change.

Redistribution of wealth and power

Midwest founder Booth, meanwhile, has stated building a progressive majority would help for a fair distribution of wealth and power and opportunity.Booth founded Midwest in the 1970s with her husband, Paul Booth, a founder and the former national secretary of Students for a Democratic Society, the radical 1960s anti-war movement from which William Ayers' domestic Weather Underground terrorist organization splintered. The Woods Fund, a nonprofit on which Obama served as paid director from 1999 to December 2002, provided capital to the Midwest Academy. WND was first to report Obama sat on the Woods Fund board alongside Ayers. In 1999, Booth's Midwest Academy received $75,000 from the Woods Fund. In 2002, with Obama still serving on the Woods Fund, Midwest received another $23,500 for its Young Organizers Development Program. Midwest describes itself as one of the nation's oldest and best-known schools for community organizations, citizen organizations and individuals committed to progressive social change.It later morphed into a national organizing institute for an emerging network of organizations known as Citizen Action. Discover the Networks describes Midwest as teach[ing] tactics of direct action, confrontation, and intimidation.In August 1998, Obama participated in a panel discussion following the opening performance in Chicago of the play The Love Song of Saul Alinsky,a work described by the Chicago Sun-Times as bringing to life one of America's greatest community organizers.Obama participated in the discussion alongside other Alinskyites, including Booth, political analyst Aaron Freeman, Don Turner of the Chicago Federation of Labor and Northwestern University history professor Charles Paine. Alinsky had so much fire burning within,stated local actor Gary Houston, who portrayed Alinsky in the play.There was a lot of complexity to him. Yet he was a really cool character.Booth herself is a notorious radical community activist and self-described dedicated disciple of Alinsky, of whom she says: Alinsky is to community-organizing as Freud is to psychoanalysis.

Booth's vision of uniting various left-leaning organizations and factions has also been the subject of her two books, Toward a Radical Movement and Citizen Action and The New American Populism.Former 1960s radical and FrontPageMagazine Editor David Horowitz describes Alinsky as the communist/Marxist fellow-traveler who helped establish the dual political tactics of confrontation and infiltration that characterized the 1960s and have remained central to all subsequent revolutionary movements in the United States.Horowitz writes in his 2009 pamphlet Barack Obama's Rules for Revolution. The Alinsky Model: The strategy of working within the system until you can accumulate enough power to destroy it was what sixties radicals called boring from within.... Like termites, they set about to eat away at the foundations of the building in expectation that one day they could cause it to collapse.As WND reported, Obama approached Northwestern University professor John L. McKnight – a loyal student of Alinsky's radical tactics – to pen a letter of recommendation for him when he applied to Harvard Law School. Van Jones, President Obama's former green jobs czar and newly appointed Princeton lecturer, has teamed up with a coalition of extremists to push an environmental activist agenda to transform the American economy and bring about social change.The groups working with Jones have been described as using the tactics of guerrilla communication, agitation and disruption techniques. One organization working alongside Jones, the radical Earth First! environmentalist group, has a history of violence and sabotage. Jones spoke Monday at a Northern Arizona University event titled Challenging America: Achieving Sustainability and Justice Through the Green Collar Economy.He spoke with Billy Parish, founder of the Energy Action Coalition, a group of 50 organizations promoting a liberal environmental agenda. Green For All, a group founded and led by Jones, is part of the Energy Action Coalition. At the university event, Parish claimed, We are reaching the peak and decline of nearly all of our resources. ... We've used more resources since World War II than in all of previously recorded history. Global warming is only one symptom of a much broader crisis, which is that our economy provides goods and services in ways that are unaffordable for most of the world's population and unsustainable for our planet.

Parish added that major changes are necessary to transform the American economy into one that practices sustainability of dwindling resources and the environment.Continued Parish: To solve the climate crisis and build healthy communities, we need to transition every single system of our economy into a more tough and sustainable fashion. ... From how our food is grown and processed, to how our energy is generated and delivered, to how we do laundry – every part of how we live and how our economy functions needs to make this transition.Parish reportedly said there is a parallel between the history of technological advancement and what he perceives to be the world's present challenges.This transition to a green economy is the new industrial revolution of our time. ... That is, it is leading to a new basis for job creation and social change. Every single one of us is part of the problem – literally every breath we take – and every single one of us can be a part of the solution. ... In every single sector of the economy, in every profession, we can build this transformation into a green economy.Jones told the audience there are two needs to revitalize the economy and make it more sustainable are not only intertwined, but also inseparable.An economic crisis and an ecological crisis – how can you make a difference in both at the same time? ... Because if you try to solve one without solving the other, you are going to get an 'F' in the college known as life. You can create a bunch of stuff, throw it in the garbage can and call it economic growth. The problem with doing that is that we'll be living on a strip-mined planet.

Jones's solution?

America could greatly benefit by producing its own wind turbines and solar panels, he said. I'm excited about wind turbines. ... Imagine Boeing-level engineering – a jet engine in the sky that can turn the wind into raw power, as much fuel as 23 cars. A need for 8,000 finely machined parts that would put the entire Midwest back to work. We could ship and sell those parts all over the world and bring our economy back. That can be done in America right now.

Guerrilla communication, agitation and disruption techniques

Parish's Energy Action Coalition, meanwhile, is composed of Jones' Green for All as well as a slew of extremist organizations, including he Ruckus Society, which states that it provides hands-on direct action tactical skills and strategy at [its] training camps, skillshares,or it will bring its training to your location.

David Horowitz's Discover the Networks states: The Ruckus Society's mission is to provide environmental, human rights, and social justice organizers with the tools, training, and support needed to achieve their goals.Toward this end, it trains activists in direct action and guerrilla communication techniques for the promotion of radical agendas. Viewing the United States as a nation rife with injustice and oppression,the Ruckus Society struggle[s] to prioritize the voices and visions of youth, women, people of color, indigenous people and immigrants, poor and working class people, lesbian, gay, bisexual, gender queer, and transgendered people, and other historically marginalized communities.

Also, DTN reports: Since its inception, the Ruckus Society has trained thousands of activists in the use of agitation and disruption techniques.The training sessions contain cerebral elements as well as physical, classroom-style instruction for action planning, communicating with the media, building leadership and political analysis, and nonviolent philosophy and practice. Among the topics taught are street blockades,police confrontation strategies,and using the media to your advantage.

Trainees learn ways to goad police into overreaction and to cause problems for those they target. Dozens of leftist groups send their elite protestors to Ruckus Society trainings. Many of the trainees are members of the Rainforest Action Network, Earth First!, and the Earth Liberation Front.Earth First! is another member of the Energy Action Coalition alongside Jones' organization. DTN says Earth First! is a Radical environmentalist group with a long history of violence and sabotage.It pioneered sabotage tactics like tree sitting and tree spiking to thwart logging and development.The Rainforest Action Network is also in the Energy Action Coalition. Rainforest, DTN says, is an "Activist organization that conducts negative publicity campaigns and boycotts of companies whose activities it deems harmful to the environment.

Education to make students revolutionaries

Jones served as Obama's green jobs czar until he resigned in September after it was exposed he founded a communist revolutionary organization and signed a statement that accused the Bush administration of possible involvement in the 9/11 attacks. Jones also called for resistance against the U.S. Jones previously stated his advocacy for green jobs was part of a broader movement to destroy the U.S. capitalist system. Princeton last month announced Jones has been appointed a visiting fellow in the Center for African American Studies and the Program in Science, Technology and Environmental Policy at the university's Wilson School.
Noliwe Rooks, associate director of the Center for African American Studies, told the Daily Princetonian Jones will also conduct research and host discussions on such subjects such as the next phase of green jobs, environmental policy [and] environmental justice.Jones explained in an official university statement he looks forward to exploring solutions to our nation's toughest challenges with the students and scholars of Princeton.America is at a crossroads, facing economic and ecological crises,he said in the statement.The next generation of job-creating, green solutions will be even more challenging to conceive. And they will be even more difficult to implement.WND reported Jones has a history of sparking protests against universities and previously slammed non-activist students as worthless people obtaining worthless degrees.Jones previously led university protests and has made controversial remarks about college students.

Jones campus activism traces back to at least 1993, when the activist was a Yale law student. WND found a Boston Globe picture of Jones standing on the steps of a Harvard library with a caption reading he was on the seventh day of a hunger strike, urging Harvard students to protest against the Clinton administration's detention of 264 Haitian refugees with HIV at Guantanamo. As the founder in 1999 of Bay Area Police Watch, which was accused of anti-police activities, Jones led protests on California college campuses. In April 1999, Jones helped lead more than 300 University of California-Berkeley students and community members in a protest vigil and hunger strike in support of the university's ethnic studies department, which was facing major budget cuts and the scaling back of courses. Jones told the university's newspaper the vigil and attendant hunger strike was a critical point in the movement to defend what has been called the systematic dismantling of UC Berkeley's ethnic studies department. There are thousands of worthless people here signing off checks to the administration to get their worthless degrees, he said. You have the sense to know that you've got to fight for what you (really want).History has to be made by young people fighting for a new future, Jones continued. You're living your history right here tonight.Jones said budget and faculty cuts in the ethnic studies department signaled that the Berkeley administration is willing to do anything to prevent you from becoming revolutionaries.What's at stake isn't a curriculum any more – it's a vision for a new generation,he said. Jones in the 1990s was the leader and founder of a radical group, the communist revolutionary organization Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement, or STORM. The group's official manifesto, Reclaiming Revolution,boasted we also saw our brand of Marxism as, in some ways, a reclamation.

STORM was founded in 1994 and disbanded in 2003. We agreed with Lenin's analysis of the state and the party,read STORM's manifesto. And we found inspiration in the revolutionary strategies developed by Third World revolutionaries like Mao Zedong and Amilcar Cabral.Cabral is the late Marxist revolutionary leader of Guinea-Bissau and the Cape Verde Islands. WND previously reported Jones named his son after Cabral and reportedly concludes every e-mail with a quote from the communist leader. STORM's newsletter boasted we also saw our brand of Marxism as, in some ways, a reclamation.STORM worked with known communist leaders. It led the charge in black protests against various issues, including a local attempt to pass Proposition 21, a ballot initiative that sought to increase the penalties for violent crimes and require more juvenile offenders to be tried as adults. Speaking to the East Bay Express in 2005, Jones said he first became radicalized in the wake of the 1992 Rodney King riots, during which time he was arrested. I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th, and then the verdicts came down on April 29th,he said.By August, I was a communist. Jones in the early 1990s also founded and led Bay Area Cop Watch. Jones signed a petition calling for nationwide resistance against police. Jones went on to found the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, named after a little-known civil rights firebrand and socialist activist. In a 2005 Uprising Radio interview, Jones talked about using green jobs to bring down the capitalist system: Inside that minimum demand was a very radical kernel that eventually meant that from 1964 to 1968complete revolution was on the table for this country. And, I think that this green movement has to pursue those same steps and stages. Right now we say we want to move from suicidal gray capitalism to something eco-capitalism where at least we're not fast-tracking the destruction of the whole planet. Will that be enough? No, it won't be enough. We want to go beyond the systems of exploitation and oppression altogether.

Succeeding revelations about Jones by WND included: Jones previously served on the board of an environmental activist group at which a founder of the Weather Underground terrorist organization is a top director. Jones was co-founder of a black activist organization that has led a campaign prompting major advertisers to withdraw from Glenn Beck's top-rated Fox News Channel program. The revelation followed Beck's reports on WND's story about Jones' communist background. Jones and other White House appointees may have been screened by an ACORN associate. One day after the 9/11 attacks, Jones led a vigil that expressed solidarity with Arab and Muslim Americans as well as what he called the victims of U.S. imperialism around the world. Just days before his White House appointment, Jones used a forum at a major youth convention to push for a radical agenda that included spreading the wealth and changing the whole system.Jones' Maoist manifesto while leading the group Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement, or STORM, was scrubbed from the Internet after being revealed by WND. Jones was the main speaker at an anti-war rally that urged resistance against the U.S. government – a demonstration sponsored by an organization associated with the Revolutionary Communist Party. BORN IN THE USA? Attorney links eligibility, health care challenges - Motion says new law invalid because of Obama's missing documentation March 25, 2010

What President Obama has described as a monumental victory – the passage of health-care reform legislation – could be linked in court to the ongoing controversy over his eligibility to hold the nation's highest office. Attorney Orly Taitz – now a candidate for secretary of state in California – today provided to WND a court filing in which she asks that her eligibility challenge be joined with a case that contests the constitutionality of the Democrats' massive health-care plan. Taitz argues, H.R. 3590 was signed into law by Mr. Barack Hussein Obama, who … never proved his legitimacy to the presidency. Therefore the act is invalid, as it was not signed by one legally entitled to sign it.Her e-mail documentation indicated she filed with the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation under federal court rules.

She's asking to link her case and the case brought by a long list of state attorneys general against the health-care law, Florida et al vs. United States Department of Health and Human Services. Taitz is suing Obama in regards to damages suffered by her as part of an amended complaint filed in federal court in Washington. She submitted a series of affidavits to support her claim, including one from former federal examiner and law enforcement officer Sandra Ramsey Lines, who contends Obama's Certification of Live Birth as posted on the Internet by his campaign cannot be used as documentation of his birth. A separate affidavit from an Ohio private investigator said the Social Security number Obama apparently is using appears to also be associated with someone born in the year 1890.A second investigator, this one from New York, said his work revealed the Social Security number has been issued in Connecticut, even though Obama apparently has no ties to the state. Taitz cited the evidence to argue there are many unresolved questions about Obama's history that cast doubt on his eligibility to be president under the Constitution's requirement that the office be held by a natural born citizen.Her motion describes the health-care plan as an interference with existing contracts, a breach of contract and an unenforceable contract. It might be a stroke of providence that this unconstitutional bill was signed into law by an ineligible president, and that these responsive pleadings were submitted for consideration only a few days before the day of the ancient holiday of Passover, which celebrates freedom from bondage and usurpation, her pleading states.It is time for the lawful and law abiding free sovereign citizens of this nation to have standing and representation alongside free sovereign states to break from usurpation and bondage,she wrote. WND reported earlier this week that in another case, a pleading suggested courts forget whether Obama is a natural born citizen as required by the Constitution because he may not even be a citizen.

Under the British Nationality Act of 1948 his father was a British subject/citizen and not a United States citizen and Obama himself was a British subject/citizen at the time Obama was born,says a new filing in the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals in the case Kerchner v. Obama. We further contend that Obama has failed to even conclusively prove that he is at least a citizen of the United States under the Fourteenth Amendment as he claims by conclusively proving that he was born in Hawaii.
The submission comes from attorney Mario Apuzzo. His brief argues against the earlier document from Obama's attorneys demanding that the case be dismissed. The case was brought by Apuzzo in January 2009 on behalf of Charles F. Kerchner Jr., Lowell T. Patterson, Darrell James Lenormand and Donald H. Nelson Jr. Named as defendants are Barack Hussein Obama II, the U.S., Congress, the Senate, House of Representatives, former Vice President Dick Cheney and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The case alleges Congress failed to follow the Constitution, which provides that Congress must fully qualify the candidate elected by the Electoral College Electors.
The complaint also asserts when Obama was born his father was a British subject/citizen and Obama himself was the same.The case contends the framers of the U.S. Constitution, when they adopted the requirement that a president be a natural born citizen,excluded dual citizens. WND has reported on dozens of legal challenges to Obama's status as a natural born citizen.The Constitution, Article 2, Section 1, states,No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President.Some of the lawsuits question whether he was actually born in Hawaii, as he insists. If he was born out of the country, Obama's American mother, the suits contend, was too young at the time of his birth to confer American citizenship to her son under the law at the time. Other challenges have focused on Obama's citizenship through his father, a Kenyan subject to the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom at the time of his birth, thus making him a dual citizen. The cases contend the framers of the Constitution excluded dual citizens from qualifying as natural born. And still others contend he holds Indonesian citizenship from his childhood living there. Adding fuel to the fire is Obama's persistent refusal to release documents that could provide answers and the appointment – at a cost confirmed to be at least $1.7 million – of myriad lawyers to defend against all requests for his documentation. While his supporters cite an online version of a Certification of Live Birth from Hawaii as his birth verification, critics point out such documents actually were issued for children not born in the state. WND also has reported that among the documentation not yet available for Obama includes his kindergarten records, Punahou school records, Occidental College records, Columbia University records, Columbia thesis, Harvard Law School records, Harvard Law Review articles, scholarly articles from the University of Chicago, passport, medical records, files from his years as an Illinois state senator, his Illinois State Bar Association records, any baptism records and his adoption records. The campaign followed a petition that has collected more than 495,000 signatures demanding proof of his eligibility, the availability of yard signs raising the question and the production of permanent, detachable magnetic bumper stickers asking the question. The certification of live birth posted online and widely touted as Obama's birth certificate does not in any way prove he was born in Hawaii, since the same short-form document is easily obtainable for children not born in Hawaii. The true long-form birth certificate – which includes information such as the name of the birth hospital and attending physician – is the only document that can prove Obama was born in Hawaii, but to date he has not permitted its release for public or press scrutiny. Oddly, though congressional hearings were held to determine whether Sen. John McCain was constitutionally eligible to be president as a natural born citizen, no controlling legal authority ever sought to verify Obama's claim to a Hawaiian birth.

A federal intelligence source reported in an interview last evening that the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security have been called in to actively investigate incidents of violence and threats made to at least ten Democrats and one Republican lawmaker since Sunday. Their involvement was reportedly requested by top House leadership and one unnamed, high-level White House official. According to this source, who agreed to speak to this writer under the strict condition of anonymity, a watch list has already been created that specifically names and turns their focus on various pro-life and tea-party organizations and individuals who are considered a threat to domestic security, continuity of government operations, and to the lives of lawmakers and their families.While published reports confirm that Capitol Police have been contacted and are addressing security concerns of lawmakers and the incidents of vandalism, the involvement of federal agencies has not been publicly disclosed, nor will it likely be on any official level. The reason, according to this source, is that high-level discussions between top lawmakers and agency heads are exploring the application of the Patriot Act against any right-wing individual or group that poses a danger to government operations.He added that threat assessments and security measures for public assemblies at the Capitol, specifically focusing on conservative groups are being re-evaluated at the request of the White House and Democratic lawmakers.Dissemination of the list is obviously limited to avoid another MIAC episode, referring to the release of a document leaked from the Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC).

According to this federal official, lawmakers and White House officials were stunned by the strong response against the health care bill, citing the protests at the Capitol. Based on what I’ve heard, I don’t think they were expecting the type of response seen in not only the demonstrations, but in poll numbers and by conservative talk radio and television. They have been monitoring all aspects of this situation, not just the physical assemblies,he stated.Watch lists are being created and updated to include anyone who appears to be organizing or acting as a gallivanting force behind the actual protestors.The media outlets have also been reporting the allegations of racial slurs and anti-gay remarks shouted at Representatives John Lewis, Andre Carson, and Barney Frank this weekend, supposedly during the protests of members of the Tea Party. According to this source, there does not appear to be any direct evidence of such behavior beyond the allegations themselves.On Saturday, Capitol Police reportedly reviewed at least two videos – one from a cellular telephone and another from a video camera – that supposedly captured the event. There was a contemporaneous review of audio and video at the site of the protest when they [Capitol Police] created a physical barrier for the lawmakers and when the comments were allegedly made. The officers were even instructed to make arrests, but could not find anything that supported the allegations rising to the level of disorderly conduct,stated this source.

Democratic proponents of the health care bill have attempted to portray anger being expressed by the majority of Americans who opposed the bill as some kind of vicious and deadly mass assault, casting themselves as poor victims of a bloodthirsty mob, when in reality the only real instances of violence have been carried out by pro-Obamacare thugs, with Tea Party activists their victims.In reality, a couple of stunts and a few broken windows pale in comparison to the treatment dished out to anti-Obamacare activists on behalf of leftist Obamanoid goons.During a debate on MSNBC yesterday, David Shuster attempted to put author Kevin Jackson on the spot by challenging him to name one incident where Republicans had been similarly attacked.
Name one, name one,yapped Shuster.Here’s one – during an August 2009 demonstration in Mehville, Missouri, Obamacare opponents were locked out of a town hall meeting before Union thugs viciously attacked patriot and Tea Party activist Kenneth Gladney, who was handing out Gadsen flags outside the stage-managed event, while hurling racist insults.Kenneth was attacked on the evening of August 6, 2009 at Rep. Russ Carnahan’s town hall meeting in South St. Louis County, wrote Gladney’s attorney, David B. Brown, in an email sent to Infowars. Kenneth was approached by an SEIU representative as Kenneth was handing out Don’t Tread on Me flags to other conservatives. The SEIU representative demanded to know why a black man was handing out these flags. The SEIU member used a racial slur against Kenneth, then punched him in the face. Kenneth fell to the ground. Another SEIU member yelled racial epithets at Kenneth as he kicked him in the head and back. Kenneth was also brutally attacked by one other male SEIU member and an unidentified woman. The three men were clearly SEIU members, as they were wearing T-shirts with the SEIU logo.

Brown characterized the attack on Gladney, who was hospitalized with multiple injuries, as a truly senseless hate crime, but you wouldn’t have heard anything about it on MSNBC the next day, because it wasn’t carried out by Tea Party members, it was an attack by pro-Obamacare thugs furious at people for using their free speech to express opinions which differed to their own.Elston McCowan, 47, of St. Louis, and Perry Molens, 50, of De Soto, each were later charged with assaulting Gladney.

Here’s how Gladney himself described the incident.A group of people with purple t-shirts were leaving the rally. As the group walked past me, I offered one of the gentlemen a Gadsen flag and a button. The man turned and looked at my board and said, who in the f--- is selling this s---? I replied I am Sir, would you like a flag or a button? He shouted at me, What kind of nigger are you?! Then, he grabbed my board, so I quickly grabbed it back, then the man punched me in the face and charged at me . I put my hands up to block the second blow from the large man, when two other people from that group grabbed me and threw me to the ground and started punching and kicking me. I was kicked in the head and in the back, legs and buttocks. Then a white woman ran up to me while I was on the ground and began kicking me in my head as well. A few people came to my rescue for which I am forever grateful.

Since then my life has been turned upside down and I wake up some days feeling scared and fearful for my life. The media has attacked me. They have made me out to be a dishonest and untrustworthy person. The real Kenneth is a kind and trust worthy man that just wants to be respected as a good man with a positive attitude that loves all people, no matter what walks of life they come from. I go to church and I believe in God, I hope to move past all of this and go on with my life. I still do not have a job and this situation has just made my life more complicated.So when pro-Obamacare thugs racially taunt and beat up innocent bystanders, the media either ignores it or attacks the victim, but when anti-Obamacare people allegedly (nobody even knows who committed the vandalism and as Jackson points out, it could well have been Democratic operatives) break a few windows, hell hath no fury like the scorn of David Shuster and his fellow corporate media whores.As Jackson also points out in the MSNBC clip, the establishment media didn’t engage in a mass bout of hand-wringing obsession when George W. Bush was depicted as the Joker or Hitler, but when Obama is portrayed the same way, it’s characterized as some kind of shameful racist hate crime.This goes to the heart of what corporate media smears against the Tea Party are all about – an effort to silence dissent by framing opposition to big government as extremist, racist and dangerous – when in reality the only real instances of racism and violence have been committed by pro-Obamacare thugs.But it doesn’t end there – here’s another example for David Shuster of Tea Party members being attacked by extreme pro-Obama lefitsts.During a November 2009 immigration enforcement rally, A.N.S.W.E.R.-hired thugs attacked 62-year-old Dave Caulkett of Floridians for Immigration Enforcement, pummeling him with their signs and kicking him in the face as other A.N.S.W.E.R. goons cheered.Before the event, A.N.S.W.E.R. Florida had sent out an email to their members calling for a militant confrontation with the so-called tea baggers.Beating back these forces will require us to organize together, take the streets, fight the racists wherever they show their faces and drive them out of every community,stated the email.

As Bill Smith points out, As can also be clearly seen on the video, A.N.S.W.E.R. organizers set their thugs loose on the two men and stood by until they heard police coming. Then they stopped their members and repositioned them to make it look like nothing happened. This was an orchestrated attack designed to make people fearful of protesting against their agenda.So there we have it Mr. Shuster – while you fail to provide one actual instance where Tea Party members have attacked pro-Obamacare supporters or pro-illegal immigration activists, there are two clear examples of these very people attacking, beating, and hurling racist insults at Tea Party members in the last 6 months alone.

After supposedly opposing the president’s health care bill, which would force Americans to buy private insurance, and giving Americans over the past year the impression that the battle was that of a populist president vs. big business, the insurance industry is suddenly embracing the new law and wants to get as many Americans enrolled as possible! No doubt, for the insurance industry, the presidency of Barak Obama will be very good for business. According to a TIME Magazine article: America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), the industry trade group, has agreed to sign on to a new, 50-state health care reform implementation effort, provisionally called Enroll America, which is being organized by Ron Pollack of the pro-reform group Families USA. We are participating in it, says AHIP spokesman Robert Zirkelbach. The goal is to get everyone covered.The myth that insurance companies oppose legislation that would lay heavy fines on any citizen who doesn’t purchase their product was used by the mainstream media and the White House to make Americans believe that the victory of a few corporations somehow equated to victory for the people. While doing nothing to address the creation of new jobs so that the uninsured can sustainably afford the insurance they’re being forced to buy, the new law has assured the insurance industry an endless well of customers, backed by the US taxpayer if those customers are unable to pay.

Enroll America will focus on enticing the final 5% of Americans who will be eligible for health insurance under the new law but whom congressional budget scorers do not expect to enroll. On a state-by-state basis, the group will work to create an easy application process for benefits, including access to enrollment at doctors’ offices, pharmacies and government agencies that provide other benefits like food stamps.Though the people behind Enroll America say they’re concerned that a small percentage of the population will defy the law, the IRS has been enlisted to help the government enforce the insurance mandate.The Congressional Budget office estimates that 95% of Americans will get health insurance by 2016. That will add nearly 32 million previously uninsured people to the health-coverage rolls.No doubt, for the insurance industry, the presidency of Barak Obama will be very good for business.
