Keith Olbermann is leaving MSNBC and has announced that Friday's Countdown show will be his last (FINALLY THE ARAB SYMPATHIZER IS GONE)
NEW YORK – MSNBC host Keith Olbermann announced Friday that he is leaving the network and has taped his last Countdown show.MSNBC issued a statement that it had ended its contract with the controversial host, with no further explanation. Olbermann hosted the network's most popular show, but his combative liberal opinions often made him a target of critics.
Olbermann did not explain why he was leaving.
MSNBC thanks Keith for his integral role in MSNBC's success and we wish him well in his future endeavors, the network said.A spokesman said Phil Griffin, MSNBC's president, would not comment on Olbermann's exit.
Olbermann was suspended without pay from the network for two days in November for donating to three Democratic candidates, which violated NBC News' policy on political donations.Olbermann complained that he was being punished for mistakenly violating an inconsistently applied rule that he had known nothing about.The host apologized to fans -- but not to the network.Olbermann, before leaving the show with a final signature toss of his script toward the camera, thanked his audience for sticking with him and read a James Thurber poem.This may be the only television program where the host was much more in awe of the audience than vice versa, he said.

The Ontario government has announced the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit will provide eligible customers a 10 per cent rebate on the total cost of electricity charges related to electricity consumption on their bills including HST, effective with electricity consumed January 1, 2011. This rebate will be in effect for five years until December 31, 2015.
The government estimates Ontarians will be faced with a 46 per cent increase in home electricity costs over the next five years to pay for much needed electricity system upgrades. The Ontario Clean Energy Benefit will help customers manage the rising cost of electricity.
Who is Eligible?
Residential and seasonal customers are eligible for the rebate, as well as farm and small business customers (general service energy-billed with less than 50 kW demand) as long as they do not use more than 250,000 kWh annually. Customers eligible for the Regulated Price Plan (RPP) two-tiered prices and Time-of-Use (TOU) prices are eligible for this rebate, including retailer enrolled customers and customers on spot as long as they would otherwise be RPP eligible.

Can you explain what I am seeing on the display of my new smart meter?
There are 3 types of smart meters currently being deployed (and the names of the meter are on the meter faceplate):
•If you have a Landis + Gyr Focus meter, the display alternates between the display check (which displays 88888) and the kWh consumption reading. There is approximately 5 seconds between the two displays.
•If you have an Itron Sentinel meter, the display stays on the normal kWh consumption display at all times.
•The GE i 210+ meter display will indicate kWh consumption for about 5 seconds and all eights (88888) for about 2 seconds. You might also notice that the LCD display flashes ADI (Automated Distribution Infrastructure).
I now have my smart meter installed but understand that I cannot manage my bill by adjusting my consumption until I am coverted to TOU pricing?

Yes. Hydro One's smart metering system makes use of low power radiofrequency (RF) transmitters to communicate meter readings and weak RF fields in the range of 2.4 GHz are produced during the system's normal operation. These fields comply with Health Canada guidelines by a very wide margin ranging from hundreds to thousands times less than Health Canada limits.

We will leave a card at your door letting you know that we have completed the installation. Also, the meter will look a little different as it has a digital display and no dials.
Will my first bill after the meter replacement look any different?
Yes, it will be a longer bill as it will display two sets of electricity usages — first for the meter that was replaced, and second for the new smart meter. This will appear on the first bill after the installation of your smart meter only; after that your bill will look the same.
How much am I paying for my smart meter now?
All Hydro One customers are currently paying $2.32 per month to recover smart meter-related costs. These costs have been reviewed and approved by the Ontario Energy Board and are a part of the delivery line item of your Hydro One bill.
Will I see a separate smart meter charge on my bill?
No. The cost of smart metering is included in the delivery line item of your bill. Smart metering costs are recovered through electricity rates in the same way as costs are recovered for other equipment that serve our customers including distribution wires, poles and transformers.
How much is the smart meter going to cost in the future?
The Ontario Energy Board has estimated that the incremental monthly cost for a typical residential or small business customer may be between $3 and $4 per month once full implementation is complete in 2010 but this is just an estimate.
Will my electricity bill automatically go down once I have a smart meter?
No. Your smart meter is a tool that measures and records how much electricity you use at different times of the day. When teamed with Time-of-Use prices, it provides you the opportunity to better manage your electricity use (and costs), reduce strain on the electricity system, and help the environment.
How do I know that my smart meter is accurate?
All meters are approved by Measurement Canada and Hydro One regularly tests a sample of meters for accuracy before they are deployed.
What are the cost savings and environmental benefits of smart meters?
When we're all using a lot of electricity at the same time, we create peak demand periods. Supplying electricity at those times has a range of impacts. Higher demand often means higher prices because having generating plants that stand ready to meet peak demand and only operate infrequently is expensive and these plants are usually the less attractive forms of generation that are harder on the environment. By smoothing out the peaks in demand, we can reduce the amount Ontario needs to invest in additional power generating plants, transmission lines, and distribution facilities.
Since my usage data will be sent automatically, will it remain secure and confidential?
Yes, Ontario's electricity distributors are required by law to ensure that smart meters and associated communication networks are equipped with security features to prevent unauthorized access. We must also comply with federal laws regarding the privacy, protection and disclosure of personal information. In addition, the only information communicated is your meter number and your electricity usage (the same information that was displayed on the old conventional meter at your premises).
Can Hydro One access my property to change the meter?
Yes, Hydro One may enter a customer's property at any time to replace the meter. This authority is granted under the Electricity Act (section 40) and also in our Conditions of Service (section 1.7.A Hydro One's Distributor Rights - Space and Access).
Can you explain what I am seeing on the display of my new smart meter?
There are 3 types of smart meters currently being deployed (and the names of the meter are on the meter faceplate):
•If you have a Landis + Gyr Focus meter, the display alternates between the display check (which displays 88888) and the kWh consumption reading. There is approximately 5 seconds between the two displays.
•If you have an Itron Sentinel meter, the display stays on the normal kWh consumption display at all times.
•The GE i 210+ meter display will indicate kWh consumption for about 5 seconds and all eights (88888) for about 2 seconds. You might also notice that the LCD display flashes ADI (Automated Distribution Infrastructure).
I now have my smart meter installed but understand that I cannot manage my bill by adjusting my consumption until I am coverted to TOU pricing?
While it's true you are not being billed at TOU prices at the present time, you can start reducing your electricity consumption right now by following some or all of the examples below. A more extensive list is available at www.PowerSaver.ca.
•Replace your incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs which use 75% less power and last much longer.
•Always use the economy cycle on your dishwasher and also use the air dry setting.
•Install an energy-saving showerhead which can reduce your hot water use by up to 30%.
•Install faucet aerators on your sink faucets to lower water flow. Aerators mix air into the water flow and reduce water consumption by 25-50% per tap.
•Caulk, weather-strip, and insulate your home. Seal the leaks and cracks in your house, and you'll raise the humidity levels and have a more comfortable indoor environment. You'll be able to turn the furnace down which means a lower heating bill.
I understand that smart meters use radiofrequency communication. Is this safe?
Yes. Hydro One's smart metering system makes use of low power radiofrequency (RF) transmitters to communicate meter readings and weak RF fields in the range of 2.4 GHz are produced during the system's normal operation. These fields comply with Health Canada guidelines by a very wide margin ranging from hundreds to thousands times less than Health Canada limits.
How do smart meter RF emissions compare to other RF sources in my home?
Because of the very weak fields produced by Hydro One's smart metering system, it is likely that RF exposure of most individuals will be predominated by other RF sources in the home such as cordless phones, wireless routers, and microwave ovens.

Show me a case in history where the government recruiting the citizens to spy on each other led to a more secure, happy, free and prosperous society and I’ll show you a chicken with teeth. The usual outcome, as in Stalinist Russia or Nazi Germany – was outright tyranny and death camps. Their agenda is public – DHS’ own documents clearly state that they consider libertarians, Ron Paul supporters, constitutionalists, gun owners and virtually any political activism as extremism and possible terrorism. As we have seen from a myriad of reports put out by the DHS and threat fusion centers across the country – the primary targets of Homeland Security in their campaign to have everyone treated with suspicion are people who know their rights and people who dare to exercise their freedoms.This has nothing to do with any genuine terror threat. Americans are being coerced into living in constant fear of terror, when in reality they are more likely to die from peanut allergies, lightning strikes, or accident-causing deer than terrorist attacks.We need to invoke the spirit of the French who were occupied by the Nazis in World War Two. The V for victory campaign in Paris and elsewhere helped the occupied to understand that the resistance against tyranny was legion. It gave the victims hope that they were not isolated and that their community was bonded in freedom, reducing fear that they would be reported to the authorities by collaborators as a subversive or terrorist for expressing dissent against their occupiers.

Groups such as Bilderberg, The Trilateral Commission and The Council on Foreign Relations are kingpins of this agenda, shaping the policies of the politicians and power brokers that they have effectively bought.A rather bizarre article in The Economist today addresses this power structure and far from dismissing it as a conspiracy theory, simply reaffirms the fact that the cosmopolitan elite do indeed flock together at such gatherings and elusive clubs to shape the world that the superclass wishes to inhabit.Of course, The Economist is a perfect avenue for the open conspiracy to be flaunted, given that its editor is a regular attendee at the annual Bilderberg conference, an admission the piece proudly discloses in its opening paragraphs.Tongue firmly in cheek, the piece describes Bilderberg as an evil conspiracy bent on world domination, and then goes on to affirm that actually yes, the group really does dominate world events.

It also helps to be on first-name terms with other globocrats. So the cosmopolitan elite—international financiers, bureaucrats, charity bosses and thinkers—constantly meet and talk. They flock to elite gatherings… They form clubs.The most influential of those clubs, according to the article, are Bilderberg, The Council on Foreign Relations, The Trilateral Commission, The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and The Group of Thirty. They are now shedding their secretive natures and revealing themselves to the world. The globocratic shindigs are opening up, the piece acknowledges.The article goes on to give some examples of major international events that have been shaped over the years at elite gatherings, including diplomatic agreements and even decisions on major wars.
Such meetings are an important part of the story of the superclass, The Economist quotes former Kissinger luminary and international elitist David Rothkopf, the author of the book The Global Power Elite and the World They Are Making.What they offer is access to some of the world’s most sequestered and elusive leaders. As such, they are one of the informal mechanisms of [global] power, Rothkopf adds.Don’t blame the international globocrat elite for the financial crisis though, the piece urges, claiming that the superclass were caught napping. And while the piece admits that some international bankers are responsible for looting the system wholesale, it attempts to convince readers that ultimately the presence of an inter-connected international elite actually saved the world from complete financial meltdown – so you can sleep easy at night.Of course, anyone who closely follows the activity of such elite groups will tell you that they absolutely were not caught off guard and were fully aware that the crisis was being carefully massaged back in 2006. Reports from the Bilderberg meetings in Canada in ’06 and in Turkey in ’07 predicted a global housing crash and forecast a prolonged financial meltdown as a result. The group has since been debating exactly how it should move to shape the economic situation in order to further its own global influence and that of the (honestly, we’re not evil at all) superclass.A decade ago anyone who even spoke of the existence of Bilderberg, let alone suggested it was a major manipulator of world events, was roundly categorized as a crazy tin foil hat wearing kook. Today the very same assertions make up the stuff of editorials in the world’s global press.

Not everyone loves Davos.YOU can do nothing against a conspiracy theory, sighs Etienne Davignon. He sits in a lofty office with a stupendous view over Brussels, puffing his pipe. He is an aristocrat, a former vice-president of the European Commission and a man who has sat on several corporate boards, but that is not why some people consider him too powerful. He presides over the Bilderberg group, an evil conspiracy bent on world domination. At least, that is what numerous websites allege; also that it has ties to al-Qaeda, is hiding the cure for cancer and wishes to merge the United States with Mexico. In reality, Bilderberg is an annual conference for a few dozen of the world’s most influential people. Last year Bill Gates and Larry Summers hobnobbed with the chairman of Deutsche Bank, the boss of Shell, the head of the World Food Programme and the prime minister of Spain. One or two journalists are invited each year, on condition that they abstain from writing about it. (Full disclosure: the editor of The Economist sometimes attends.)
Because the meetings are off the record, they are catnip to conspiracy theorists. But the attraction for participants is obvious. They can speak candidly, says Mr Davignon, without worrying how their words might play in tomorrow’s headlines. So they find out what other influential people really think. Big ideas are debated frankly. Mr Davignon credits the meetings for helping to lay the groundwork for creating the euro. He recalls strong disagreement over Iraq: some participants favoured the invasion in 2003, some opposed it and some wanted it done differently. Last year the debate was about Europe’s fiscal problems, and whether the euro would survive.The world is a complicated place, with oceans of new information sloshing around. Movers and shakers in New York and Washington join the Council on Foreign Relations, where they can listen to the president of Turkey one week and the chief executive of Intel the next. The world’s richest man, Carlos Slim, a Mexican telecoms tycoon, hosts an annual gathering of Latin American billionaires who cultivate each other while ostensibly discussing regional poverty.
Davos is perhaps the glitziest of these globocratic gatherings. Hundreds of big wheels descend on the Swiss ski resort each year. The lectures are interesting, but the big draw is the chance to talk to other powerful people in the corridors. Such chats sometimes yield results. In 1988 the prime ministers of Turkey and Greece met at Davos and signed a declaration that may have averted a war. In 1994 Shimon Peres, then Israel’s foreign minister, and Yasser Arafat struck a deal over Gaza and Jericho. In 2003 Jack Straw, Britain’s foreign secretary, had an informal meeting in his hotel suite with the president of Iran, a country with which Britain had no diplomatic ties. But Davos is hardly a secretive institution: it is crawling with journalists. The other globocratic shindigs are opening up, too. Even Bilderberg has recently started publishing lists of participants on its website.Some American organisations, such as foreign-policy think-tanks, are also well placed to exert global influence. The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, for example, has established itself as one of the most globally trusted talking-shops, with offices in Beijing, Beirut, Brussels and Moscow, as well as Washington—though it has yet to fulfil the vision of its founder, Andrew Carnegie, who wanted it to abolish war. The key to wielding influence, says Jessica Mathews, Carnegie’s president, is very simple. You hire the best people.In countries where think-tanks are subservient to the state, such as China and Russia, foreign outfits such as Carnegie enjoy a reputation for independence. If they can back this up with useful knowledge, they can sway policy. For example, Carnegie scholars advised the authors of Russia’s post-Soviet constitution. And when relations between American and Russia grew frosty under President George W. Bush, Carnegie’s Moscow office helped keep a line of communication open between the two governments. Such meetings are an important part of the story of the superclass, says Mr Rothkopf, the author of the eponymous book. What they offer is access to some of the world’s most sequestered and elusive leaders. As such, they are one of the informal mechanisms of [global] power.
Some globocrats think the importance of forums like Davos is overstated. Howard Stringer, the boss of Sony, is the kind of person you would expect to relish such gatherings. Welsh by birth, American by citizenship, he took over Japan’s most admired company in 2005, when it was in serious trouble, and turned it around in the face of immense cultural obstacles. He says he has enjoyed trips to Davos in the past but will not attend this year. He can learn more, he says, by listening to his 167,000 employees. On the face of it there seems much to be said for the world’s shakers and movers meeting and talking frequently. Yet for all their tireless information-swapping, globocrats were caught napping by the financial crisis. Their networks of contacts did throw up a few warnings, but not enough to prompt timely action.
The limits of jaw-jaw
Jim Chanos, a hedge-fund manager who made his first fortune betting that Enron was overvalued, warned the G8 finance ministers in April 2007 that banks and insurance firms were heading for trouble. He made another fortune when bank shares crashed, but is still furious that his warnings were politely ignored. He thinks it an outrage that several senior regulators from that period are still in positions of power. And he accuses some bankers of a wholesale looting of the system by paying themselves bonuses based on what they must have known were phantom profits. He thinks they should be prosecuted.Globocrats failed to avert the crisis, but they rallied once it struck. Rich-country governments acted in concert to prop up banks with taxpayers’ money. In America the response was led by a well-connected trio: Hank Paulson, George Bush junior’s treasury secretary and a former boss of Goldman Sachs; Tim Geithner, Barack Obama’s treasury secretary and a former boss of the New York Federal Reserve, as well as a veteran of the IMF, the Council on Foreign Relations and Kissinger Associates; and Ben Bernanke, of Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Princeton and the Bush White House, who is now chairman of the Federal Reserve. The bail-outs were unpopular everywhere, but may have prevented the world’s banking system from imploding. Governments are now trying to craft rules to prevent a recurrence. Lots of people have offered advice. Among the weightier contributions was a report from the Group of Thirty (G30), an informal collection of past and present central-bank governors. The Volcker Report, advocating a central clearing mechanism for derivatives trading and curbs on proprietary trading by banks, helped shape America’s Dodd-Frank financial-reform bill. The G30 is influential because it consists of people with experience of putting policies into practice, says Stuart Mackintosh, its director. So when it makes recommendations, they can be turned into action, he adds.

A radio host named Harold Camping is making headlines in the Washington Post, Associated Press, National Public Radio, and elsewhere this month by publicly predicting that the Rapture — the sudden disappearance of born-again followers of Jesus Christ from the earth, followed by the Biblical judgments described in the Book of Revelation as the Great Tribulation — will occur on May 21, 2011. Sadly, he is just the latest person to foolishly ignore the teachings of Jesus Christ and mislead people regarding Bible prophecy.The San Francisco Chronicle seems to be the first to have picked up the story. They reported: “Camping, 88, has scrutinized the Bible for almost 70 years and says he has developed a mathematical system to interpret prophecies hidden within the Good Book. One night a few years ago, Camping, a civil engineer by trade, crunched the numbers and was stunned at what he’d found: The world will end May 21, 2011….Employees at the Oakland office run printing presses that publish Camping’s pamphlets and books, and some wear T-shirts that read, May 21, 2011. They’re happy to talk about the day they believe their souls will be retrieved by Christ. I’m looking forward to it, said Ted Solomon, 60, who started listening to Camping in 1997. He’s worked at Family Radio since 2004, making sure international translators properly dictate Camping’s sermons.
Camping’s declaration is deeply misguided. In Matthew chapter 24, the Lord Jesus Christ gave His disciples a list of signs to watch for that would indicate when His return for His true followers was approaching. Such signs included the rise of false messiahs, wars, rumors of wars, earthquakes, other natural disasters, persecution of believers, the spread of the gospel to all people in every nation, the rebirth of the nation of Israel, and so forth. But in Matthew 24:36, Christ warned His followers not to try to speculate on exact dates of His return. But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone, Christ said. If no one on earth knows the date of Christ’s return, how then does Harold Camping know? He doesn’t.Yet this is not the first time Camping has been misled or misled others. In 1992, he published a book through Vantage Press in New York entitled, 1994? I actually have a copy because I have started a collection of books and pamphlets of false teachings about Bible prophecy. It’s a 552 page volume with this conclusion: The results of this study teach that the month of September of the year 1994 is to be the time for the end of history. In the following sentence he notes: We must be cautious. There could be something that has been overlooked. In view of the many paths that I have found that focus on 1994 it seems extremely unlikely that we have overlooked something. However I modestly and humbly acknowledge that such a possibility exists. (emphasis added)
Obviously, Camping was wrong. Neither the Rapture nor the end of the world occured in 1994. He did, in fact, overlook something — the words of our Lord Jesus Christ who said in Matthew 24:36 that no one knows the time of Christ’s return but the Father alone.Camping is not the only one who has refused to accept the words of Christ and have decided that they do know, and have spread such misguided and unbiblical teaching to others. In 1987, an author named Edgar C. Whisenant, for example, wrote a book published through the World Bible Society entitled, 88 Reasons Why The Rapture Could Be In 1988. On page 3, Whisenant actually cites Christ’s warning in Matthew 24:36. Yet he then proceeds to speculate with a professed near certainty that he knows what no one else knows. Teachers of Bible prophecy need to be very careful. Our responsibility is not to predict when Christ will return, but to help people be ready for the Lord’s return, whenever that occurs, and especially if it is soon. We can do this by sharing the gospel, making disciples, spreading the Word, strengthening the Church, living lives of holiness and purity, and becoming men and women of prayer and worship. We also need to do this by helping people to discern the difference between solid Bible teaching and false teaching. Let’s ask the Lord to help us to serve Him wisely and humbly. Let’s also pray for Harold Camping and others that their eyes may be opened to the truth and they make make a rapid course correction.

French Minister Attacked by Gaza Mob

French Foreign Minister Michele Alliot-Marie was attacked by a mob in Gaza on Friday morning. Her attackers were enraged over statements she had allegedly made the day before supporting human rights for kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.Alliot-Marie was mobbed as she entered Gaza, with a crowd surrounding her car, pounding on its windows, and throwing shoes at the vehicle. One person jumped on the car. Two children were pushed in front of the first car in Alliot-Marie's convoy, forcing the convoy to a stop while the attack continued.One sign at the rally had a picture of Alliot-Marie with a red cross over her face. Others called on the foreign minister to leave Gaza.Hamas police eventually stopped the furious protest and allowed the convoy to continue. Hamas leaders expressed sympathy with the rioters, saying Alliot-Marie's comments regarding Shalit reflected a total bias toward Israel.
Alliot-Marie was not hurt in the attack.She had met Thursday with the parents of Gilad Shalit. The kidnapped soldier, who Hamas claims to have in custody, holds French citizenship. Alliot-Marie assured his parents that France has not forgotten Shalit, and said she would insist that the European Union ask Hamas to allow Red Cross representatives to visit Shalit, as required by international law.According to AFP, trying to justify the incident, the Gaza mob may have mistakenly believed that Alliot-Marie termed Shalit's captivity a war crime.Shalit's father Noam had called on France to push the EU to condemn the kidnapping as a war crime, and his statement was wrongly attributed to Alliot-Marie on Israel Radio's Arabic-language website, an AFP reporter said. Army Radio upset listeners this week with its coverage of a planned housing development in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Gilo. Left-wing presenters indicated opposition to the plan through biased language and skewed coverage.The Tadmit organization, which monitors Israeli media, called on the station to provide more balanced coverage, and to ensure that presenters' individual views do not shape news reports. Tadmit media observer Chani Luz prepared the critique.Three presenters in particular, Micah Friedman, Yael Dan, and Yoram Frost, were accused of biased coverage.Micah Friedman used language suggestive of a campaign against the construction project, saying, Has the next crisis with the United States arrived? and Will the American government soon have a thousand and four hundred new reasons for tension with Israel? Yotam Frost termed the new project a powder keg. The project is set to include 1,400 much-needed housing units in Gilo, in southern Jerusalem.The Palestinian Authority claims Gilo, and all other Jerusalem neighborhoods east, south and north of the 1949 armistice line, all termed East Jerusalem by the media, as part of the capital city of an Arab state it hopes to establish in Judea and Samaria. PA leaders have accused Israel of undermining the diplomatic process by continuing to build in the capital despite their demands. Natural urban population expansion makes this building a normal process for the Jerusalem municipality.

Attacks force closure of EU's emissions trading system

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - A series of cyber-attacks on national registries where carbon permits are stored has forced the closure of the EU's emissions trading system (ETS) for at least a week. The European Commission posted the announcement on its website on Wednesday (19 January) after Czech Republic-based firm Blackstone Global Ventures said about €6.8 million of carbon allowances appeared to have disappeared.Thefts on electronic registries in Austria, Greece, Poland and Estonia have also been reported in recent days.Incidents over the last weeks have underlined the urgent need for enhanced security measures, the commission said while announcing the closure of the bloc's ETS system until at least the 26 January. By placing a price on carbon, Europe's trading system is designed to lower company emissions and therefore protect the environment from global warming.Firms received emission permits for free under the first phase (2005-2007) of the scheme, with some forced to pay for a portion of their permits under the current phase (2008-2012). Brussels wants to see energy companies buy all their permits from 2013 onwards, with other heavy industries gradually phased in by 2020.
The system is the world's largest of its kind, with US plans for a similar cap-and-trade scheme being blocked by the country's senate last year. China experts suggest pilot ETS projects could appear in Beijing's next five-year plan, set to be approved in March.Despite its pioneering position, Europe's ETS system has attracted criticism over its six years of operation, with some businesses saying it threatens the bloc's competitiveness, while NGOs argue emission thresholds have been set too high.Wednesday's announcement and similar cyber-attacks have also damaged the EU initiative, together with reports of tax fraud and the recycling of used credits.

A radio host named Harold Camping is making headlines in the Washington Post, Associated Press, National Public Radio, and elsewhere this month by publicly predicting that the Rapture — the sudden disappearance of born-again followers of Jesus Christ from the earth, followed by the Biblical judgments described in the Book of Revelation as the Great Tribulation — will occur on May 21, 2011. Sadly, he is just the latest person to foolishly ignore the teachings of Jesus Christ and mislead people regarding Bible prophecy.The San Francisco Chronicle seems to be the first to have picked up the story. They reported: “Camping, 88, has scrutinized the Bible for almost 70 years and says he has developed a mathematical system to interpret prophecies hidden within the Good Book. One night a few years ago, Camping, a civil engineer by trade, crunched the numbers and was stunned at what he’d found: The world will end May 21, 2011….Employees at the Oakland office run printing presses that publish Camping’s pamphlets and books, and some wear T-shirts that read, May 21, 2011. They’re happy to talk about the day they believe their souls will be retrieved by Christ. I’m looking forward to it, said Ted Solomon, 60, who started listening to Camping in 1997. He’s worked at Family Radio since 2004, making sure international translators properly dictate Camping’s sermons.
Camping’s declaration is deeply misguided. In Matthew chapter 24, the Lord Jesus Christ gave His disciples a list of signs to watch for that would indicate when His return for His true followers was approaching. Such signs included the rise of false messiahs, wars, rumors of wars, earthquakes, other natural disasters, persecution of believers, the spread of the gospel to all people in every nation, the rebirth of the nation of Israel, and so forth. But in Matthew 24:36, Christ warned His followers not to try to speculate on exact dates of His return. But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone, Christ said. If no one on earth knows the date of Christ’s return, how then does Harold Camping know? He doesn’t.Yet this is not the first time Camping has been misled or misled others. In 1992, he published a book through Vantage Press in New York entitled, 1994? I actually have a copy because I have started a collection of books and pamphlets of false teachings about Bible prophecy. It’s a 552 page volume with this conclusion: The results of this study teach that the month of September of the year 1994 is to be the time for the end of history. In the following sentence he notes: We must be cautious. There could be something that has been overlooked. In view of the many paths that I have found that focus on 1994 it seems extremely unlikely that we have overlooked something. However I modestly and humbly acknowledge that such a possibility exists. (emphasis added)

In 1987, an author named Edgar C. Whisenant, for example, wrote a book published through the World Bible Society entitled, 88 Reasons Why The Rapture Could Be In 1988. On page 3, Whisenant actually cites Christ’s warning in Matthew 24:36. Yet he then proceeds to speculate with a professed near certainty that he knows what no one else knows. French Foreign Minister Michele Alliot-Marie was attacked by a mob in Gaza on Friday morning. Her attackers were enraged over statements she had allegedly made the day before supporting human rights for kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.Alliot-Marie was mobbed as she entered Gaza, with a crowd surrounding her car, pounding on its windows, and throwing shoes at the vehicle. One person jumped on the car. Two children were pushed in front of the first car in Alliot-Marie's convoy, forcing the convoy to a stop while the attack continued.One sign at the rally had a picture of Alliot-Marie with a red cross over her face. Others called on the foreign minister to leave Gaza.Hamas police eventually stopped the furious protest and allowed the convoy to continue. Hamas leaders expressed sympathy with the rioters, saying Alliot-Marie's comments regarding Shalit reflected a total bias toward Israel.
Alliot-Marie was not hurt in the attack.She had met Thursday with the parents of Gilad Shalit. The kidnapped soldier, who Hamas claims to have in custody, holds French citizenship. Alliot-Marie assured his parents that France has not forgotten Shalit, and said she would insist that the European Union ask Hamas to allow Red Cross representatives to visit Shalit, as required by international law.According to AFP, trying to justify the incident, the Gaza mob may have mistakenly believed that Alliot-Marie termed Shalit's captivity a war crime.Shalit's father Noam had called on France to push the EU to condemn the kidnapping as a war crime, and his statement was wrongly attributed to Alliot-Marie on Israel Radio's Arabic-language website, an AFP reporter said. Army Radio upset listeners this week with its coverage of a planned housing development in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Gilo. Left-wing presenters indicated opposition to the plan through biased language and skewed coverage.The Tadmit organization, which monitors Israeli media, called on the station to provide more balanced coverage, and to ensure that presenters' individual views do not shape news reports. Tadmit media observer Chani Luz prepared the critique.Three presenters in particular, Micah Friedman, Yael Dan, and Yoram Frost, were accused of biased coverage.Micah Friedman used language suggestive of a campaign against the construction project, saying, Has the next crisis with the United States arrived? and Will the American government soon have a thousand and four hundred new reasons for tension with Israel? Yotam Frost termed the new project a powder keg. Attacks force closure of EU's emissions trading system

The European Commission posted the announcement on its website on Wednesday (19 January) after Czech Republic-based firm Blackstone Global Ventures said about €6.8 million of carbon allowances appeared to have disappeared.Thefts on electronic registries in Austria, Greece, Poland and Estonia have also been reported in recent days.Incidents over the last weeks have underlined the urgent need for enhanced security measures, the commission said while announcing the closure of the bloc's ETS system until at least the 26 January. By placing a price on carbon, Europe's trading system is designed to lower company emissions and therefore protect the environment from global warming.Firms received emission permits for free under the first phase (2005-2007) of the scheme, with some forced to pay for a portion of their permits under the current phase (2008-2012). Brussels wants to see energy companies buy all their permits from 2013 onwards, with other heavy industries gradually phased in by 2020.
The system is the world's largest of its kind, with US plans for a similar cap-and-trade scheme being blocked by the country's senate last year. China experts suggest pilot ETS projects could appear in Beijing's next five-year plan, set to be approved in March.Despite its pioneering position, Europe's ETS system has attracted criticism over its six years of operation, with some businesses saying it threatens the bloc's competitiveness, while NGOs argue emission thresholds have been set too high.Wednesday's announcement and similar cyber-attacks have also damaged the EU initiative, together with reports of tax fraud and the recycling of used credits.

Scheduled as a discussion on Hungary's presidency priorities for the next six months, the controversial media law dominated discussion and prompted a number of MEPs to display white banners with the single word censored.
In his introductory speech Mr Orban repeated the government's willingness to change the law if a European Commission legal opinion finds it to be at fault, but Socialist, Liberal and Green group leaders called for a complete scrapping of the legislation.Introduced at the start of this month, the contentious act establishes a media council to ensure balanced reporting, and requires all media types to be registered, including online media such as forums and blogs. The hour is grave, Socialist leader Martin Schultz said, singling out the media council's membership of government appointees as unacceptable.Others joined in. EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - The EU's police mission in Kosovo, Eulex, has begun laying the groundwork for an investigation into claims that Kosovar Prime Minister Hashim Thaci is responsible for murdering Serb prisoners and selling their kidneys in the 1990s.Eulex chief prosecutor Isabelle Arnal and Kosovar deputy prosecutor Sevdije Morina met with Albanian counterparts in Tirana on Tuesday (18 January) to seek assurances that Albanian authorities would co-operate in the probe.It's the first meeting of this type and it's too early say [if Tirana will help out], a Eulex spokeswoman told EUobserver on Wednesday morning.She added that Eulex some three weeks ago sent a letter requesting hard evidence from Dick Marty, a Swiss politician who put forward the Thaci accusations in a report for the Council of Europe in December. Dear Mr. Stengel,I wanted to bring to your attention a recent article in Time entitled Israel's Rightward Lurch Scares Some Conservatives. I hope that you will agree that the article's obvious bias and numerous distortions are not worthy of the standards of your prestigious magazine.Israelis depicted in the article as essentially sliding towards fascism. Your correspondent refers to Israel's Shin Bet (the equivalent of the FBI) as a secret police, claims that the Israeli government increasingly equates dissent with disloyalty, and accuses the Prime Minister of taking a page from neighboring authoritarian states.
The evidence offered for these outrageous allegations includes a preliminary vote in our parliament that would require naturalized citizens to make a pledge of allegiance, a proposal to strip citizenship from Israelis convicted of espionage and terrorism, a motion to investigate foreign government funding of local NGOs, calls on Jews to not rent property to Arabs, and demonstrations demanding prohibitions of Arab boys from dating Jewish girls.But your correspondent did not find it necessary to inform your readers of a few facts.Oaths of allegiance are commonplace in most democratic countries, including the United States. Naturalized citizens in America swear an oath to its Constitution and to defend the country against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Israel's proposed pledge would require naturalized citizens to swear an oath to Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, words taken directly from our Declaration of Independence.Moreover, Great Britain, France, Germany, and Italy are just some of the many countries where citizenship can be stripped for various infractions that are defined as undermining national interests. Are these European countries not democratic? In the United States, Senator Joe Leiberman proposed a bill last year to add joining a foreign terrorist organization or engaging in or supporting hostilities against the United States or its allies to the list of acts for which United States nationals would lose their nationality. Is American democracy threatened by such a bill?
As for questioning the legitimacy of foreign government funding of Israeli NGOs, mentioning America's Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA) may have presented a more balanced picture.FARA requires that any organization engaged in lobbying in the U.S. that receives money from foreign individuals, let alone foreign governments, must among other things register as a foreign agent with the Department of Justice and permit the Attorney General to inspect all of its activities.It is hard to imagine any democratic country accepting foreign governments intervening in its domestic affairs by funding domestic groups engaged not merely in criticism of a particular government's policy but also attacking the very foundations of the State.What would Britain do if the French government was actively funding a British NGO that sought to eliminate the monarchy? What would the United States do if the Iranian government was funding American NGOs pressing for a withdrawal of US forces from the Middle East? There is a vigorous public debate in Israel, including within the Likud party, over the best means to address the problem of foreign government funding of local NGOs. Proposals range from launching a parliamentary investigation to laws banning or restricting such funding to measures to ensure full transparency. Far from being a sign of Israel's slide toward fascism, the current debate in Israel is a testament to how vibrant our democracy truly is.
Finally, contrary to the implication of your correspondent, Prime Minister Netanyahu has publicly and forcefully condemned the racist sentiments that were mentioned in the article. For example, this is what the Prime Minister said at the opening of Israel's annual Bible Quiz to an audience of mostly observant Jews a few hours after he learned of the letter calling on Jews not to rent apartments to Arabs:There are non-Jews among the citizens of this country. How would we feel if someone said not to sell apartments to Jews? We would have been outraged, and indeed we are outraged when we hear such things in neighboring countries or anywhere else. Such statements should not be made, neither about Jews nor about Arabs. They must not be made in any democratic country, let alone a Jewish-democratic country that respects the moral values of the Jewish heritage and the Bible. Therefore, the State of Israel categorically rejects these things.Contrast this unequivocal condemnation by the leader of Israel to the Palestinian Authority law that mandates the death penalty for any one who sells land to Jews. Such laws are all too common in a Middle East in which Christians are persecuted, gays are hanged in public squares and women are stoned for adultery.In Israel, things are different. Here, we protect the rights of women, gays and minorities, including the 20% of Israelis who are Arabs, who enjoy freedom of speech and religion and the protections afforded by independent courts and the rule of law.Every decision in Israel is put under the microscope by one of world's largest foreign press contingents, the hundreds of human rights organizations and NGOs that operate freely here, a famously adversarial local press and most critically, by a vociferous parliamentary opposition.

It's Proven: Bilin Woman Died of Overdose, not IDF Gas

An IDF investigation has found that Jawaher Abu Rahma, who PA leaders accused Israel of killing, actually died due to a doctor's mistake. The PA had claimed that Abu Rahma died after inhaling tear gas as PA rioters clashed with Israeli soldiers near the Samaria separation/security barrier.The investigation found that Rahma was not at the demonstration, but was in a house nearby. Initial PA reports had implied that she was at the demonstration; however, when pictures of the protest did not show her presence, it was then reported that she had been overcome by tear gas at home.
However, the IDF found that Rahma was not taken to a hospital during or immediately after the protest, but only later in the day.Once in the Ramallah hospital, Rahma was given unusually high doses of Atropine, a drug whose uses include countering nerve gas or speeding up a dangerously slow pulse. The drug apparently caused her death, investigators said.Documents received by the IDF also provided additional evidence for the theory that Rahma had been seriously ill prior to the demonstration, possibly with cancer.IDF commanders planned to meet last week with PA officials to brief them on the ongoing investigation. Rabbis for Human Rights Accused of Inciting Violence

Activists from the Shilo region in Samaria made their way to Jerusalem on Wednesday to protest outside the home of Arik Asherman, a Reform rabbi who heads the group Rabbis for Human Rights. The protesters accused Asherman of inciting violence in Samaria in the name of peace.Asherman and a small group of fellow activists often accompany Palestinian Authority Arabs when they attempt to farm near Jewish areas, or areas off-limits for planting. He plans to accompany PA Arabs in planting olive trees near the Jewish village of Adei Ad in Binyamin.Jews in the region say Asherman encourages PA Arabs to approach Jewish villages, where they often fight with Jewish youth. The leftist activists and the Palestinians came up here to fight with the Jewish residents, one resident said, referring to a fight last week near Shilo in which three Jewish youths and one PA man were injured.
We usually have good relations [between Jews and Arabs], but there are those who try to incite violence in order to make us look bad, he said.Another demonstrator criticized Asherman for planning to plant trees for PA residents on Tu B'Shvat, a Jewish holiday celebrating trees and the land of Israel. Even on a Jewish holiday, he goes to celebrate with the Arabs, he charged.Asherman told Arutz Sheva that we have a problem with the settlements... We need to end the occupation. However, Rabbis for Human Rights avoids politics, he claimed, promoting any peace agreement whether that means one state or two states or ten states, whether it means we evict all the settlers, or that they stay where they are.The theory that leftist peace activists actually encourage violence has been suggested before. During the 2009 olive harvest, civilian security chief for Judea and Samaria Shlomo Vaknin said the presence of pro-PA foreign activists was directly linked to Arab-Jewish clashes.

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - The EU's police mission in Kosovo, Eulex, has begun laying the groundwork for an investigation into claims that Kosovar Prime Minister Hashim Thaci is responsible for murdering Serb prisoners and selling their kidneys in the 1990s.Eulex chief prosecutor Isabelle Arnal and Kosovar deputy prosecutor Sevdije Morina met with Albanian counterparts in Tirana on Tuesday (18 January) to seek assurances that Albanian authorities would co-operate in the probe.It's the first meeting of this type and it's too early say [if Tirana will help out], a Eulex spokeswoman told EUobserver on Wednesday morning.She added that Eulex some three weeks ago sent a letter requesting hard evidence from Dick Marty, a Swiss politician who put forward the Thaci accusations in a report for the Council of Europe in December. Your correspondent refers to Israel's Shin Bet (the equivalent of the FBI) as a secret police, claims that the Israeli government increasingly equates dissent with disloyalty, and accuses the Prime Minister of taking a page from neighboring authoritarian states.
The evidence offered for these outrageous allegations includes a preliminary vote in our parliament that would require naturalized citizens to make a pledge of allegiance, a proposal to strip citizenship from Israelis convicted of espionage and terrorism, a motion to investigate foreign government funding of local NGOs, calls on Jews to not rent property to Arabs, and demonstrations demanding prohibitions of Arab boys from dating Jewish girls.But your correspondent did not find it necessary to inform your readers of a few facts.Oaths of allegiance are commonplace in most democratic countries, including the United States. Naturalized citizens in America swear an oath to its Constitution and to defend the country against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Israel's proposed pledge would require naturalized citizens to swear an oath to Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, words taken directly from our Declaration of Independence.Moreover, Great Britain, France, Germany, and Italy are just some of the many countries where citizenship can be stripped for various infractions that are defined as undermining national interests. Are these European countries not democratic? In the United States, Senator Joe Leiberman proposed a bill last year to add joining a foreign terrorist organization or engaging in or supporting hostilities against the United States or its allies to the list of acts for which United States nationals would lose their nationality. Is American democracy threatened by such a bill?
As for questioning the legitimacy of foreign government funding of Israeli NGOs, mentioning America's Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA) may have presented a more balanced picture.FARA requires that any organization engaged in lobbying in the U.S. that receives money from foreign individuals, let alone foreign governments, must among other things register as a foreign agent with the Department of Justice and permit the Attorney General to inspect all of its activities.It is hard to imagine any democratic country accepting foreign governments intervening in its domestic affairs by funding domestic groups engaged not merely in criticism of a particular government's policy but also attacking the very foundations of the State.What would Britain do if the French government was actively funding a British NGO that sought to eliminate the monarchy? What would the United States do if the Iranian government was funding American NGOs pressing for a withdrawal of US forces from the Middle East? There is a vigorous public debate in Israel, including within the Likud party, over the best means to address the problem of foreign government funding of local NGOs. Proposals range from launching a parliamentary investigation to laws banning or restricting such funding to measures to ensure full transparency. Far from being a sign of Israel's slide toward fascism, the current debate in Israel is a testament to how vibrant our democracy truly is.
Finally, contrary to the implication of your correspondent, Prime Minister Netanyahu has publicly and forcefully condemned the racist sentiments that were mentioned in the article. For example, this is what the Prime Minister said at the opening of Israel's annual Bible Quiz to an audience of mostly observant Jews a few hours after he learned of the letter calling on Jews not to rent apartments to Arabs:There are non-Jews among the citizens of this country. How would we feel if someone said not to sell apartments to Jews? We would have been outraged, and indeed we are outraged when we hear such things in neighboring countries or anywhere else. Such statements should not be made, neither about Jews nor about Arabs. They must not be made in any democratic country, let alone a Jewish-democratic country that respects the moral values of the Jewish heritage and the Bible. Therefore, the State of Israel categorically rejects these things.Contrast this unequivocal condemnation by the leader of Israel to the Palestinian Authority law that mandates the death penalty for any one who sells land to Jews. Such laws are all too common in a Middle East in which Christians are persecuted, gays are hanged in public squares and women are stoned for adultery.In Israel, things are different. Here, we protect the rights of women, gays and minorities, including the 20% of Israelis who are Arabs, who enjoy freedom of speech and religion and the protections afforded by independent courts and the rule of law.Every decision in Israel is put under the microscope by one of world's largest foreign press contingents, the hundreds of human rights organizations and NGOs that operate freely here, a famously adversarial local press and most critically, by a vociferous parliamentary opposition.

An IDF investigation has found that Jawaher Abu Rahma, who PA leaders accused Israel of killing, actually died due to a doctor's mistake. The PA had claimed that Abu Rahma died after inhaling tear gas as PA rioters clashed with Israeli soldiers near the Samaria separation/security barrier.The investigation found that Rahma was not at the demonstration, but was in a house nearby. Initial PA reports had implied that she was at the demonstration; however, when pictures of the protest did not show her presence, it was then reported that she had been overcome by tear gas at home.
However, the IDF found that Rahma was not taken to a hospital during or immediately after the protest, but only later in the day.Once in the Ramallah hospital, Rahma was given unusually high doses of Atropine, a drug whose uses include countering nerve gas or speeding up a dangerously slow pulse. The drug apparently caused her death, investigators said.Documents received by the IDF also provided additional evidence for the theory that Rahma had been seriously ill prior to the demonstration, possibly with cancer.IDF commanders planned to meet last week with PA officials to brief them on the ongoing investigation. Activists from the Shilo region in Samaria made their way to Jerusalem on Wednesday to protest outside the home of Arik Asherman, a Reform rabbi who heads the group Rabbis for Human Rights. The protesters accused Asherman of inciting violence in Samaria in the name of peace.Asherman and a small group of fellow activists often accompany Palestinian Authority Arabs when they attempt to farm near Jewish areas, or areas off-limits for planting. He plans to accompany PA Arabs in planting olive trees near the Jewish village of Adei Ad in Binyamin.Jews in the region say Asherman encourages PA Arabs to approach Jewish villages, where they often fight with Jewish youth. The leftist activists and the Palestinians came up here to fight with the Jewish residents, one resident said, referring to a fight last week near Shilo in which three Jewish youths and one PA man were injured.
We usually have good relations [between Jews and Arabs], but there are those who try to incite violence in order to make us look bad, he said.Another demonstrator criticized Asherman for planning to plant trees for PA residents on Tu B'Shvat, a Jewish holiday celebrating trees and the land of Israel. Even on a Jewish holiday, he goes to celebrate with the Arabs, he charged.Asherman told Arutz Sheva that we have a problem with the settlements... We need to end the occupation. However, Rabbis for Human Rights avoids politics, he claimed, promoting any peace agreement whether that means one state or two states or ten states, whether it means we evict all the settlers, or that they stay where they are.The theory that leftist peace activists actually encourage violence has been suggested before. During the 2009 olive harvest, civilian security chief for Judea and Samaria Shlomo Vaknin said the presence of pro-PA foreign activists was directly linked to Arab-Jewish clashes.

WND previously reported the Hawaii Department of Health has refused to authenticate the COLB posted on the Internet by Snopes.com and FactCheck.org.WND has reported that in 1961, Obama's grandparents, Stanley and Madelyn Dunham, could have made an in-person report of a Hawaii birth even if the infant Barack Obama Jr. had been foreign-born.

So far, the only birth document available on Obama is a Hawaii Certification of Live Birth that first appeared on the Internet during the 2008 presidential campaign. It was posted by two purportedly independent websites that have displayed a strong partisan bias for Obama – Snopes.com released the COLB in June 2008, and FactCheck.org published photographs of the document in August 2008. WND previously reported the Hawaii Department of Health has refused to authenticate the COLB posted on the Internet by Snopes.com and FactCheck.org.WND has reported that in 1961, Obama's grandparents, Stanley and Madelyn Dunham, could have made an in-person report of a Hawaii birth even if the infant Barack Obama Jr. had been foreign-born.
Similarly, the newspaper announcements of Obama's birth do not prove he was born in Hawaii, since they could have been triggered by the grandparents registering the birth as Hawaiian, even if the baby was born elsewhere.Moreover, WND has documented that the address reported in the newspaper birth announcements was the home of the grandparents.WND also has reported that Barack Obama Sr. maintained his own separate apartment in Honolulu, even after he was supposedly married to Ann Dunham, Barack Obama's mother, and that Dunham left Hawaii within three weeks of the baby's birth to attend the University of Washington in Seattle.Dunham did not return to Hawaii until after Barack Obama Sr. left Hawaii in June 1962 to attend graduate school at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.
