Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto
us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:
11 Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.
12
Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this

13
Therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall,

14 And he shall break it as the breaking of the potters’

15 For thus saith the
Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be

'A pyromaniac sitting in the Israeli government' Ben Gvir declares
Jewish prayer permitted on Temple Mount, again defying status quo-PM’s
office pushes back against far-right minister, insists current situation
in which Jews are banned from praying at holy site ‘has not changed and
will not change’ By Sam Sokol-Today, 5:10 pm-WED JUL 24,24
Far-right
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir on Wednesday claimed a major
change has been instituted to the fragile status quo on Jerusalem’s
Temple Mount, saying he prays at the site and that Jewish prayer is
allowed at the site, despite a decades-long ban on the practice.“I was
at the Temple Mount last week. I prayed at the Temple Mount and we are
praying at the Temple Mount. I am in the political echelon, and the
political echelon allows Jewish prayer at the Temple Mount,” Ben Gvir
told attendees at a Knesset conference encouraging Jewish visits to the
holy site.He made the statement hours before Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu’s was to speak to a joint session of Congress on a high-stakes
trip during which Netanyahu will meet with President Joe Biden, Vice
President Kamala Harris and Republican nominee former president Donald
Trump. It was the second time in as many months that Ben Gvir,
challenging Netanyahu, said it was official policy to allow Jews to pray
at the site, after he made similar claims in June.As in the case of
those comments, Netanyahu’s office quickly countered Ben Gvir’s
assertion, releasing a statement declaring that Israel’s policy “to
maintain the status quo on the Temple Mount has not changed and will not
change.”In a subsequent statement, Ben Gvir said that allowing Jews to
pray on the Mount had been his position for months and insisted that on
his watch “there will not be racist discrimination against Jews, who
alone are forbidden from praying… in the holiest place for the Jewish
people.”The Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City is the holiest place in
Judaism, as the site of the two biblical temples. Known to Muslims as
the Noble Sanctuary, it is home to Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third-holiest
site in Islam. The vague status quo governing the compound allows Muslims
to pray and enter with few restrictions, while non-Muslims, including
Jews, can visit only during limited time slots via a single gate, with
visibly religious Jews only allowed to walk on a predetermined route,
closely accompanied by police. While Jews are not officially allowed to
pray, police have increasingly tolerated limited, quiet prayer. The
Temple Mount has been the scene of frequent clashes between Palestinian
protesters and Israeli security forces, and tensions at the disputed
compound have fueled past rounds of violence.Palestinians often claim
Israel wishes to assert greater control over the Mount, and the issue is
seen as a particularly sensitive one, with explosive potential for the
region. In a video published by the Walla news site Wednesday, Chief
Superintendent Eyal Avraham, commander of Israel Police’s Holy Sites
Unit, stated: “We do not allow [Jewish] prayer at the Temple Mount.”Ben
Gvir’s comments also elicited strong criticism from ultra-Orthodox
lawmakers who believe that ascending to the Temple Mount violates Jewish
law.“The great blasphemy that has been committed cannot pass quietly,”
Interior Minister Moshe Arbel (Shas) told the Knesset. Senior United
Torah Judaism lawmaker Moshe Gafni tweeted a demand that the prime
minister either preserve the status quo or “close the Temple Mount to
Jews.”The Orthodox Chief Rabbinate maintains that due to the destroyed
Jewish Temples’ Holy of Holies being located on the Temple Mount, Jewish
people should not enter the compound at all — while many Palestinians
and Muslims reject the very notion that the Mount is holy to Jews at
all.Try and try again-Speaking with Radio Galei Israel on Jerusalem Day
last month, the leader of the ultranationalist Otzma Yehudit party said
that as far as he was concerned, Jewish prayer was now allowed on the
Temple Mount.“That’s the ministerial position and Jews pray on the
Temple Mount and that’s a good thing,” he declared, prompting Netanyahu
to issue a statement nearly identical to the one released Wednesday.Ben
Gvir is an ardent proponent of greater Jewish access to the Temple Mount
and has made several visits to the site during his tenure as
minister.Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir

Jewish members of his entourage praying during a visit, which many saw
as inflammatory.A holy backdrop-During his most recent visit, which he
referred to in his remarks on Wednesday morning, Ben Gvir called on
Netanyahu “not to fold” on a hostage deal with Hamas.Speaking in a video
with the Dome of the Rock behind him, the far-right minister said he
had come “to the most important place for the State of Israel, for the
Jewish people, to pray for the hostages to return home — but without a
reckless deal, without surrender.”“I am praying and am also working hard
so that the prime minister will have the strength not to fold and to go
on to victory: to add military pressure, to stop fuel [from entering
Gaza] — to win,” he declared. This was not the first time that Ben Gvir
has delivered a political message from the Temple Mount. In May he
released a video filmed at the holy site expressing opposition to the
establishment of a Palestinian state.A ‘pyromaniac’Several hours after
Ben Gvir’s comments on Wednesday morning, as his exclusion from a
proposed high-level security forum exacerbated an ongoing feud with the
ultra-Orthodox Shas party, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned that the
minister posed a danger to Israel and the wider region and that he must
not be allowed to influence the course of the war.“There is a
pyromaniac sitting in the Israeli government who is trying to set fire
to the Middle East,” he tweeted. “I oppose any negotiations to put him
in the war cabinet. This will allow him to realize his plans.”While
Netanyahu disbanded the war cabinet when the National Unity party
withdrew from the government in June, Ben Gvir has repeatedly held up
Shas-backed legislation in an attempt to force the prime minister to
appoint him to a similar body that will steer the war.In a statement on
Telegram, former war cabinet minister Benny Gantz declared that “just as
Ben Gvir did not decide on the number of [worshipers] entering the
Temple Mount during the month of Ramadan, so too he is not deciding on
this issue either.”Earlier this year Netanyahu overruled Ben Gvir’s
attempt to restrict the number of worshipers allowed to pray on the
Temple Mount in the first week of Ramadan.“Instead of holding
discussions on his inclusion in the narrow security decision-making
forum, he should be stripped of all decision-making authority on
sensitive security issues,” Gantz said — praising Shas leader Aryeh Deri
for reportedly blocking Ben Gvir’s appointment to the body.Video of the

Ben
Gvir endorses Trump in highly irregular move, day before PM meets
Biden, Harris-Speaking to Bloomberg in interview published hours before
Netanyahu’s speech to Congress, far-right minister claims Republican
leader would be better for Israel-By ToI Staff Today, 5:07 pm-JUN 24,24
Far-right
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir endorsed Donald Trump for
president in a highly irregular move, as top officials from both nations
usually avoid wading into one another’s internal politics and do not
wish to be seen as favoring one side over another. His comments, in an
interview published Wednesday, came at a particularly inconvenient time
for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is in Washington and was set
to meet Thursday with US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala
Harris, the likely Democratic nominee in the coming election. In an
interview with Bloomberg, Ben Gvir asserted that a win for Trump in the
November vote would be better for Israel, implying that only the
Republican nominee would offer support for action against Tehran.“I
believe that with Trump, Israel will receive the backing to act against
Iran,” Ben Gvir told Bloomberg. “With Trump it will be clearer that
enemies must be defeated.”“The US has always stood behind Israel in
terms of armaments and weapons, yet [during the war in Gaza] the sense
was that we were being reckoned with — that we were trying to be
prevented from winning,” Ben Gvir said. “That happened on Biden’s watch
and fed Hamas with lots of energy.”The comments were published just
hours before Netanyahu was set to address the US Congress. After his
meetings with Democratic leaders on Thursday he is set to meet with
Trump in Florida on Friday. The Bloomberg report said that while Ben Gvir
did not directly address the policies of Harris — who has secured the
support of enough Democratic delegates to become her party’s nominee for
the election — he implied they would be a continuation of Biden’s.Ben
Gvir acknowledged that his endorsement of Trump could be viewed
unfavorably by his colleagues.“A cabinet minister is supposed to
maintain neutrality, but that’s impossible to do after Biden,” he
argued.Ben Gvir is the second Israeli minister to break decorum and make
undiplomatic comments in favor of Trump and against Biden, after
Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli said in April that Biden was
projecting weakness and that he would vote for Trump if he
could.Bloomberg also described Ben Gvir as “bemoaning” Netanyahu’s
response to Iran’s unprecedented drone and missile attack on Israel in
April.“Israel should respond to attacks on it in a determined,
pain-inflicting manner,” he said.Additionally, the far-right minister
said he was in favor of full-blown conflict with the Iran-backed
Lebanon-based Hezbollah terror group, which has been attacking Israeli
communities and military outposts along the northern border on a
near-daily basis since October 8.“The sooner, the better,” he said.Ben
Gvir’s comments on Trump came just days after he reportedly suggested to
security cabinet ministers that a hostage-ceasefire deal with Hamas
should be delayed because implementing it would be advantageous for the
Democrats and detrimental to Trump in the November election.Channel 13
news reported that the Otzma Yehudit party leader said an agreement now
would be “a slap for Trump, which would be a victory for Biden.”Ben Gvir
and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who both oppose any deal that
ends the fighting before Hamas is eliminated, have threatened to topple
the government if a deal is approved that sees an end to the
fighting.Last week, the White House revisited the idea of sanctioning
Ben Gvir and Smotrich during a meeting regarding the deteriorating
situation in the West Bank, according to two United States
officials.Biden has been supportive of Israel since October 7, vowing to
continue arming Israel in its war to topple the Gaza terror group. The
US president visited Israel early in the war, has met family members of
some of those being held hostage in Gaza, and sent US warships and
planes to the region in support of the country. But as casualties in Gaza
have increased, Biden has pressured Jerusalem to reach a ceasefire deal
to free the hostages, end the war and boost humanitarian aid into the
Strip. The US president also withheld a delivery of high-payload weapons
in early May, as Israel launched its offensive in densely populated
Rafah. The US and other allies had long warned against the operation in
the Strip’s southernmost city, where over a million Palestinians sought
shelter after being displaced from the Strip’s north and center. Israel
said the offensive was necessary to dismantle Hamas’s last remaining
battalions. In the end, international predictions of massive civilian
casualties in a Rafah offensive did not come to pass.Washington recently
released some of the delayed arms shipment, but not the 2,000-lb
(900-kg) bombs.Trump is adored by many in the Israeli right for his
policies as president, namely his relocation of the US embassy to
Jerusalem, his recognition of the city as Israel’s capital and his
recognition of the annexation of the Golan Heights. But the former US
president has also spent time at recent rallies mocking the intelligence
failure that led to the devastating October 7 attack, and criticizing
Netanyahu. In the days following the Hamas assault, in which some 1,200
people in Israel were killed and 251 were abducted by thousands of
Hamas-led terrorists, Trump found himself in hot water with Israel,
Biden and even some Republicans over comments he made at a campaign
rally when he called Defense Minister Yoav Gallant a “jerk” and
Lebanon’s Hezbollah terror group “very smart.”At one point he was
reported to have privately called for Netanyahu to be “impeached” for
failing to anticipate the massive Hamas rampage.Trump has resented
Netanyahu for years for congratulating Biden on his 2020 electoral win
while the US president was still falsely claiming the election had been
stolen from him. The prime minister’s meeting with the now-2024
candidate on Friday is meant to help mend ties between the two as the
Republican continues to lead in many polls ahead of the November
presidential vote.

Reporter's notebook-As Wing of
Zion finally takes off, a less than soaring adventure for press corps-On
its first official flight ferrying PM to Washington, aircraft that has
come under criticism for spending woes offers novel yet oddly middling
experience for reporters on hand-By Lazar Berman-Today, 7:58 pm-JUL
24,24
For all the hullabaloo around the first official flight of
Wing of Zion, Israel’s so-called “Air Force One,” the first official
flight on the aircraft didn’t get off to a very auspicious start.First,
the Prime Minister’s Office discovered that there were unexpected weight
restrictions for the transatlantic flight to Washington, and had to
send staffers and equipment over a week early. Then, a small crack was
discovered on the cockpit windshield while it was on the tarmac in the
US, which had to be fixed before it flew back last week. With those
issues behind it — not to mention years of numerous cost overruns,
delays and political controversy — the 28-year-old repurposed Boeing
767-300ER was finally ready this week to take Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu to the US to meet President Joe Biden and address a joint
session of Congress. The plane arrived in Israel in 2016, and the
conversion — said to have cost around NIS 750 million ($207 million),
far, far beyond initial projections — was largely completed by 2019,
when the aircraft conducted its first test flight. At the end of its
extensive renovations, the plane was said to include a private office
for the prime minister, a bedroom with a bathroom and shower, a fully
stocked kitchen, a meeting room and even a “war room.”Netanyahu’s
opponents have long argued that the plane, intended for the use of
Israeli heads of state and government, is a waste of taxpayer money, and
have branded it a symbol of Netanyahu’s overindulgence, while his
supporters have defended it as a necessary safety measure. The
limitations of the plane affected the journalists accompanying the prime
minister. Because of weight limits, only 10 members of Israel’s
diplomatic press corps could fly out with the official delegation, this
writer for The Times of Israel among them.Since the plane surprisingly
does not have an entertainment system, the group was encouraged to
download movies to their devices ahead of time, and to bring books. The
reporters arrived at Ben Gurion Airport at 6 a.m. on Monday to go
through the Shin Bet security check. Two hours later, before boarding a
bus from the gate to Wing of Zion, the press corps received a security
briefing about the plane by a Shin Bet representative. He said the
aircraft was divided into four sections — the press in the back, then
security staff and members of the prime minister’s delegation, then
senior aides, and finally the premier’s personal section. Under no
circumstances were journalists to leave the two aft sections. In
addition, there were to be no pictures taken of the flight crew, which
includes Israel Air Force pilots and attendants from Arkia and El Al
airlines, though many are actually no longer working regularly in
aviation, and have moved on to other careers while Wing of Zion isn’t
flying.Connecting phones to the plane’s USB ports was another no-no —
also a security dictate. The bus ride through the airport took about five
minutes. Wing of Zion was parked in the same remote section of the
airport where the chartered El Al planes that prime ministers have used
until now have parked.Seeing “State of Israel” emblazoned on the
fuselage, just above the country’s seal, was certainly memorable.
Government officials who had worked on the project in recent years were
on hand, clearly delighted with the result of their work. They spoke
with childlike enthusiasm as they pointed out their favorite features of
the plane. The press climbed up the movable staircase leading into the
back of the plane, and examined the interior. It was bright and clean,
with wood-patterned dividers between the sections. The seats, arrayed in
a 2-3-2 layout, were roomy, blue with white headrests. After the
journalists came families of hostages and fallen soldiers who were
joining the premier to fill up the second section, along with security
guards. Around 9:30 a.m., Netanyahu’s convoy pulled up. He and his wife
Sara shook hands with the families before the prime minister gave a
statement to the members of the media laying out the purpose of his
trip, and his intention to maintain bipartisan support for Israel as
threats from Iran grow. The passengers then seated themselves and the
plane was ready to depart. After takeoff, the excellent flight staff was
certainly eager to accommodate the needs of the passengers, happy to
make coffees and cocktails in between meals — including an iced coffee
with soy milk for this lactose-intolerant correspondent. Trays of drinks
and food were also ferried regularly from the rear kitchen to the prime
minister’s sections up front.But the staff’s helpful attitude couldn’t
hide the plane’s major flaw, as far as journalists are concerned: Though
there is Wi-Fi onboard, it shares bandwidth with the prime minister’s
own network. The crew controlled how much of that bandwidth was
apportioned to the journalists, and it wasn’t much.During the flight,
Netanyahu’s office posted pictures on Instagram of Sara Netanyahu
reading documents while in blue pajamas. Meanwhile, journalists who had
expected to be able to work during the long flight had to make do with
sending messages to their editors by WhatsApp during the short periods
the press internet was on. Access to websites or other internet
functionality — a basic feature of transatlantic flights in the modern
era — were not available. At times, the attendants would leave the
curtains to the prime minister’s section open, allowing a view of
Netanyahu sitting in his conference room. But at no point were
journalists allowed to tour the front of the plane and let the public
see what their tax shekels had purchased.Though the flight was long,
there were some poignant moments.Yaakov Argamani, who was on the plane
with his daughter Noa weeks after her rescue from Hamas captivity,
organized a minyan so that he could say the Kaddish prayer for the
deceased over his wife Liora, who died of brain cancer earlier this
month. Journalists, relatives of hostages and the government point man
for the hostages Gal Hirsch joined the service.Rabbi Yehoshua Shani,
whose son Major Uri Shani fell in battle on October 7, said Kaddish with
Argamani. The intimate familiarity that can develop immediately among
Israelis was on full display, as mothers and grandmothers of hostages
still held by Hamas spent much of the flight trying to come up with a
shidduch — a match — for one of the journalists whom they discovered was
single.Compared to the situation in Washington once Wing of Zion
landed, the flight was fairly calm. The schedule for Netanyahu’s speech
to Congress was set, but other highlights of the trip constantly moved
around. He had expected to meet Biden on Tuesday, but with the president
leaving COVID-19 isolation only on Tuesday afternoon, that meeting was
pushed back to Thursday. Vice President Kamala Harris, who said she
could not fly to DC to preside over Netanyahu’s speech as Senate
President, also agreed to meet the premier on Thursday.Arrangements
around the meeting with former president Donald Trump were more chaotic.
After much speculation around where and if the meeting would take
place, Trump posted on Truth Social that he would be hosting Netanyahu
at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Wednesday. As journalists
scrambled to understand how that might work on the same day as the
speech, Trump took down the post and said he would actually meet
Netanyahu on Thursday — the same day as the White House meetings with
Biden and Harris.More speculation and scrambling. Finally, Trump said
that, per Netanyahu’s request, the meeting would take place on
Friday. That meant that Netanyahu would stay in the US over Shabbat,
again at taxpayers’ expense. Many hostages’ families were expected to
fly back commercially — paid for by the government — instead of waiting
for Netanyahu’s flight back on Saturday night. And so Wing of Zion was
slated to touch down back in Israel after its first trip with the prime
minister on Sunday, back to a country at war and facing deep political
divisions. Netanyahu, after five days in the US, will be expected to
move a hostage deal forward and continue pursuing Hamas. If he manages to
do both, he might have a chance of staying in office long enough to fly
on Wing of Zion to more destinations — perhaps even Saudi Arabia.

Johnson: Outrageous that Kamala Harris is boycotting' Israeli officials
rap Harris for skipping PM Congress speech; House Speaker:
Inexcusable-Vice president ‘unable to distinguish between good and
evil,’ unnamed officials tell Telegraph; Harris, who as Veep would have
presided over Netanyahu’s address, will be in Indiana-By ToI Staff
Today, 12:50 pm-JUL 24,24
Unnamed Israeli officials reportedly
slammed US Vice President Kamala Harris for her plans to skip Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress on Wednesday. The vice
president typically presides over such joint addresses. In her absence,
Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Ben Cardin will preside over
the address along with House Speaker Mike Johnson. The Israeli officials
were quoted telling UK newspaper The Telegraph that Harris, who is
running for president in November, is “unable to distinguish between
good and evil,” and that skipping the prime minister’s speech is “not a
way to treat an ally.”Harris, who is expected to receive her Democratic
party’s nomination for president following President Joe Biden’s
withdrawal from the race on Sunday, will instead be speaking at an event
in Indiana for Zeta Phi Beta, a historically Black sorority founded at
the vice president’s alma mater, Howard University.Harris will, however,
meet with Netanyahu privately at the White House on Thursday.“We
anticipate she will underscore her commitment to ensure Israel can
defend itself from threats from Iran and Iranian-backed militias,
including Lebanese Hezbollah and Hamas,” an aide to the vice president
said in a statement about the planned sit-down with Netanyahu.“She will
again condemn Hamas’ brutal terrorist attack on October 7, and horrific
sexual violence. She will reiterate her deep concerns about the
humanitarian situation in Gaza and the loss of innocent life,” the
statement added.Harris did not present her plans as an intentional snub
of Netanyahu — her trip “should not be interpreted as a change in her
position with regard to Israel,” her campaign said — but she has
received criticism from Republicans for declining to preside over the
speech in Congress.hen-senator Kamala Harris, left, hosted by Prime
Minister“It is outrageous to me and inexcusable that Kamala Harris is
boycotting” the speech, said Speaker of the House Johnson, of Louisiana,
on Tuesday.“This is an historic moment, it’s an important moment for
the country, the gravity of the situation cannot be overstated, and yet,
Kamala Harris will abandon her seat,” he said, noting that Harris, as
vice president, would traditionally be seated at the rostrum during a
joint session of Congress.“The idea that Democrats are making political
calculations when our ally is in such dire straits, fighting for its
very survival… is unconscionable to us,” Johnson added.Speaker of the
House Mike Johnson, R-La., meets with reporters ahead of a Wednesday
visit by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu who will address a joint
meeting of Congresman Senator John Cornyn of Texas on Tuesday similarly
denounced Harris’s absence from the speech, describing the decision as
“pandering to extremist elements in the Democratic party” and saying it
was “disgraceful and embarrassing” for Harris to skip the address. The
vice president has not signaled any significant departure from the
current administration’s policy on the Middle East, but some observers
have pointed to her sharp tone with respect to the humanitarian
situation in Gaza as a sign that she may be harsher with Israel than
Biden has been.Harris made headlines in March when she called for an
“immediate ceasefire” in Gaza, though her call was in line with the
administration’s position, supporting a hostage release in exchange for a
pause in fighting. She also took aim at Israel for the problems
delivering humanitarian aid to Gazans, saying in a speech, “No
excuses.”And earlier this month, Harris said in an interview that
pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel protesters on American college campuses
were “showing exactly what the human emotion should be” about the war —
though she noted that “there are things some of the protests are saying
that I absolutely reject.”Netanyahu also plans to sit down with US
President Joe Biden at the White House on Thursday, as well as meet with
former president Donald Trump, Harris’s presumptive opponent in
November, in Florida on Friday.

Israeli anthem, players jeered as soccer team kicks off Olympic Games amid high security-By AP
Israel’s
national anthem is loudly jeered before its soccer team kicked off play
at the Paris Olympics against Mali tonight. The game began with a
massive security presence outside the stadium amid an increasingly
strained international climate that has Paris’ safety efforts squarely
in the spotlight. The Israel team arrived under a heavy police escort,
with motorbike riders at the front and around a dozen riot police vans
following behind. Armed police officers patrolled the Parc des Princes
stadium, one with a rifle resting on his shoulder. The atmosphere outside
the venue is calm. Fans from both countries mingled, holding up flags
and posing for photos.Mali fans sang proudly when their anthem was
played first. When it came to Israel’s anthem, boos and whistles
immediately rang out. The stadium speaker system playing the anthems
then got notably louder in what seemed like an effort to drown out the
jeers.Once play began, Israeli players were booed each time they touched
the ball.
Some 70 Democrats boycotted Netanyahu speech, Tlaib protests during address-By Jacob Magid
Roughly
70 Democrats from the House and Senate are boycotting Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu’s ongoing speech to a joint session of Congress based
on statements from those doing so and a rough head count of those in
the audience.Netanyahu’s last speech to a joint session of Congress in
2015 saw 58 Democrats boycott.Palestinian-American lawmaker Rashida
Tlaib, one of Israel’s fiercest critics in Congress, sat through
Netanyahu’s speech, holding up a small protest sign reading “Guilty of
Genocide” and “War criminal,” before being asked to stop by officials.

Netanyahu says Israel will
retain security control of Gaza, calls for deradicalization of
population like in Germany, Japan after WWII-By Lazar Berman
Netanyahu
says the war in Gaza would end tomorrow if Hamas “surrenders, disarms
and returns all the hostages. But if it doesn’t, “Israel will fight until
we destroy Hamas’s military capabilities, end its rule in Gaza and
bring all our hostages home.”“That’s what total victory means and we
will settle for nothing less,” he says. The day after we defeat Hamas a
new Gaza can emerge, he says. “My vision for that day is for a
demilitarized and deradicalized Gaza.”He says Israel “does not seek to
resettle Gaza,” but must maintain overall security control for the
foreseeable future to make sure Gaza never again poses a threat to
Israel.Gaza should have a civilian administration run by Palestinians
who don’t seek to destroy Israel, he says. “That’s not too much to
ask.”The next generation of Palestinians must learn to live alongside
Jews, he says, calling for deradicalization of the Palestinians in Gaza
and comparing that imperative need to what happened in Japan and Germany
after World War II.The demilitarization and deradicalization of Gaza
can lead to security, prosperity and peace, he says, saying that this is
his “vision” for Gaza.
Netanyahu singles out fight against Iran; says US, Israel fighting together-By Lazar Berman
Iran
is behind all the turmoil in the region and beyond, says Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu. He recalls that Ayatollah Khomeini, the founder of
the Islamic Republic, pledged to export the Islamic Revolution to the
entire world.America, “the guardian of Western civilization” and “the
world’s greatest power,” stands in the way of Iran’s plan to impose
radical Islam on the world.Iran sees America as its greatest enemy, he
says.“Israel is merely a tool. The main war, the real war, is with
America,” Netanyahu says, quoting Iran’s foreign minister.Netanyahu lays
out Iranian attacks against US servicemen and diplomats in Lebanon,
Africa, Iraq, and the US.Iran understands that to truly challenge
America, it must first conquer the Middle East. But “one proud,
pro-American democracy” stands in the way – Israel.“For Iran, Israel is
first, America is next. When Israel fights Hamas, we’re fighting Iran.
When Israel fights Hezbollah, we’re fighting Iran. When we’re fighting
the Houthis, we’re fighting Iran.”When Israel acts to prevent Iran from
achieving a nuclear weapon, it’s not only protecting Israel, he tells
Congress, “we’re protecting you.”Israel’s enemies are America’s enemies,
he says, and “our victory will be your victory.”Netanyahu highlights
Israel’s fight against Iran’s proxies.Victory over Hamas is close, says
Netanyahu.Turning to Hezbollah in Lebanon he says that, diplomatically
or otherwise, “Israel will do whatever it must do” to restore security
to the northern border and bring 80,000 displaced Israelis back to their
homes. He describes the Yemeni Houthi drone attack last week and
Israel’s strike in response. “Those who attack Israel will pay a very
heavy price,” he says.“I know that America has our back,” he says. “I
thank you for it — all sides of the aisle.”He thanks the US for
“generous military assistance,” and points out the “critical
intelligence” that have helped protect both countries. “We help keep
American boots off the ground,” he says.“I deeply appreciate America’s
support,” he says, adding that quick US aid can bring a quick end to the
war.He cites Winston Churchill: “Give us the tools and we’ll finish the
job.”“Give us the tools faster, and we’ll finish the job faster,” he
says to GOP applause.

men destroying one another. I heard these words:"Israel, Oh Israel, the
great judgment has come." The angel said, "The chosen, the church, the
remnant, shall be purified. The Spirit of God shall prepare the children

judgment. My church shall be purified, protected and ready for the
final day. Men will die from thirst. Water shall be scarce all over the
Middle East. Rivers shall dry up, and men will fight for water in those
countries."The angel showed me that the United Nations shall be broken

Russia and Kyrgyzstan sign radioactive decontamination deal.
Bishkek,
Kyrgyzstan, July 24 (AFP) Jul 24, 2024-Kyrgyzstan ratified an agreement
with Russia on Wednesday for the mass decontamination of radioactive
areas that pose a threat to the local population. The mountainous central
Asian country, a former Soviet republic, is still suffering the
environmental consequences of uranium and other heavy metals for mining
during the Soviet era.Ninety-two sites contain more than 300 million
cubic metres (10.5 billion cubic feet) of toxic and radioactive
waste."The agreement between the Kyrgyz and Russian governments to
cooperate in the rehabilitation of territories in Kyrgyzstan affected by
uranium extraction and the mining industry has been ratified,"
President Sadyr Japarov's office said in a statement. The agreement aims
to "ensure the safety of the population living in areas where there is
waste from former uranium mines."Without decontamination, natural
disasters like landslides -- which are frequent in the region -- could
send the waste spilling into rivers that traverse the entire Central
Asian region, potentially contaminating millions.Kyrgyzstan held a
separate ceremony on Wednesday marking the removal of the final 55
tonnes of Samin, a toxic rocket fuel component, from a village near the
capital Bishkek -- another chemical waste hangover from the Soviet
Union."The disposal of the rocket fuel component 'Samin' will
significantly reduce the risk of an environmental emergency and enhance
the safety of the local population," Deputy Defence Minister Emil
Osmonov said. The fuel will be transported to Germany to be destroyed
next month, the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe,
which supported the work, said in a statement.Russian state-run nuclear
giant Rosatom is also running nuclear waste decontamination efforts in
neighbouring ex-Soviet countries Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and
Uzbekistan. The EU and World Bank have both allocated funds to help
restoration efforts.
Nine arrested during London protest
demanding ban on weapons sales to Israel-Workers for a Free Palestine
accuse Foreign Secretary David Lammy of dragging his feet after he said
he will assess the issue with ‘full accountability and transparency’-By
Agencies and ToI Staff Today, 7:58 pm-JUL 24,24
LONDON — British
police on Wednesday arrested nine people during a protest against arms
exports to Israel that briefly blocked the street outside the foreign
ministry, highlighting pressure on the new Labour government over its
stance on the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.Anti-Israel protesters in Britain
have been campaigning for a government ban on arms sales to the country
in light of its war against Hamas in Gaza, which broke out with the
terror group’s invasion and massacre in southern Israel on October
7.Last week new Foreign Minister David Lammy, who has said he wants a
balanced position on Israel and Gaza, said a blanket ban on arms exports
to Israel would not be right, but he would follow a quasi-judicial
process in assessing whether sales of offensive weapons that could be
used in Gaza could proceed.London’s Metropolitan Police said protesters
arrived outside Britain’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office
and blocked pedestrian and vehicle access. Police then said the protest
could only continue if it left the central arch of the street
clear.“When the group failed to comply with the conditions, officers
intervened and made nine arrests, quickly restoring access,” a Met
Police spokesperson said.Pictures shared online showed the protesters
blocking the central arch with a large banner reading “Genocide Made in
Britain.”We have shut down the Foreign Office this morning
pic.twitter.com/OGRmoGU3FT— Rangzen (@revoltinghippie) July 24,
2024-While in opposition, Lammy said earlier this year that the
government should suspend the sale of UK arms if there were a clear risk
they might be used in a serious breach of humanitarian law.Now in
government, he said last week that he had requested an assessment of the
legal situation on his first day in office, and hoped to be able to
communicate any decisions with “full accountability and
transparency.”Labour was elected with a huge majority earlier this month
but lost some seats to anti-Israel candidates.Campaign group Workers
for a Free Palestine, which organized Wednesday’s protest, said that was
a sign the government should take a stronger stance on restricting arms
sales and called on Lammy to “practice what he preached in
opposition.”Speaking to the UK’s The Guardian, an unnamed protester said
it was “clear after a fortnight that the government could have acted by
now, but is instead prevaricating as hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza
die.”The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry says more than 39,000 people in
the Strip have been killed or are presumed dead in the fighting so far,
though the toll cannot be verified and does not differentiate between
civilians and fighters. Israel says it has killed some 15,000 combatants
in battle and some 1,000 terrorists inside Israel during the October 7
attack. In total, some 1,200 people were killed in the Hamas onslaught in
southern Israel, the majority of them civilians, and 251 were seized as
hostages. It is believed that 116 of the hostages abducted by Hamas on
October 7 remain in Gaza, including the bodies of 44 confirmed dead by
the IDF. Hamas is also holding two Israeli civilians who entered the
Strip of their own accord in 2014, and the bodies of two IDF soldiers
killed in 2014.While the UK’s Conservative government was a strong
supporter of Israel’s right to defend itself following the October 7
terror onslaught, Reuters found in June that the value of Britain’s
approvals of new arms licenses dropped sharply after the start of the
war, with the value of permits granted for the sale of military
equipment to its ally falling by more than 95% to a 13-year low.Labour
has yet to reverse any major policy regarding Israel that had been
implemented by the Conservative government, with the exception of
restoring funding to UNRWA.The UK halted funding to the UN agency for
Palestinian refugees back in January, following accusations by Israel
that some agency staff were involved in Hamas’s October 7 attack and
many more had ties to terror groups.Lammy informed Parliament of the
decision last Friday, and said he was reassured that the agency, which
provides education, health and other services to millions of
Palestinians in Gaza and elsewhere, had taken steps to ensure it has the
“highest standards of neutrality,” including improving
vetting.Describing UNRWA as the backbone of Gaza’s aid operations, he
said the UK would provide 21 million pounds ($27 million) in new funding
to the agency.
Thousands protest near US Capitol against
Netanyahu’s speech to Congress-Demonstrators call for Israeli leader to
be arrested on war crimes charges, chant that ‘resistance is justified’;
Capitol Police say they deployed pepper spray to push back rioters-By
Agencies and Jacob Magid-Today, 10:20 pm-JUL 24,24
WASHINGTON —
Thousands of anti-Israel protesters gathered on Wednesday about half a
mile from the Capitol ahead of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s
address to a joint session of Congress.Minutes before the address began,
the Capitol Police tweeted that a crowd of protesters demonstrating
outside the building became violent, leading officers to deploy pepper
spray in order to push the rioters back behind the police line. The
demonstrators chanted for an intifada (or popular uprising) and declared
that “resistance is justified when people are occupied.” One of the
protesters held up a sign calling on “Satanyahu” to “return to Europe.”A
stage decked with banners included one declaring the Israeli leader a
“Wanted War Criminal” in reference to an arrest warrant sought by
International Criminal Court prosecutors.Actress Susan Sarandon took to
the stage and condemned the death toll in Gaza: “No one is free until
everyone is free,” she said.Nearby, demonstrators placed nearly 30
human-size cardboard coffins wrapped in Palestinian flags in memory of
those killed in the war in Gaza. Traffic was barred from several roads
near the Capitol.“I want all aid [to] be suspended to Israel due to its
actions in Gaza,” said Bradley Cullinan, who said he traveled to the
area from Columbus, Ohio, 400 miles (640 kilometers) away.Protesters
gathered on Wednesday were calling for a ceasefire while also
criticizing Netanyahu’s appearance in the United States.“Seek peace and
pursue it,” read one sign, quoting a Bible verse, while others were
designed as criminal “wanted” signs, with photos of Netanyahu in place
of a mugshot. “Arrest that war criminal,” read another. Several erected a
large effigy of US President Joe Biden with blood dripping from its
mouth and devil horns.“We are horrified by the destruction of the health
system in Gaza,” Karameh Kuemmerle, of the organization Doctors Against
Genocide, who traveled to the protest from Boston, told AFP. “And we
are here to show our opposition to having the criminal Netanyahu come to
our capital and being greeted by the politicians who sent him weapons
to kill children in Gaza.”Members of the fringe ultra-Orthodox Neturei
Karta group carried Palestinian flags and signs reading “Free Palestine”
and “Anti-Zionism is not antisemitism,” while a group of younger
protesters danced to Arabic music and carried large banners reading
“Stop Arming Israel” and “Stop War Crimes in Gaza.”Dozens of Democratic
lawmakers said they’d skip Netanyahu’s speech to Congress, expressing
dismay over the thousands of civilian deaths and the humanitarian crisis
from Israel’s campaign in Gaza. The war in Gaza began on October 7 when
thousands of Palestinian terrorists broke through the border to
slaughter some 1,200 Israelis, most of them civilians, and kidnap 251 to
Gaza. The enclave’s Hamas-run health ministry has said at least 39,000
Palestinians have been killed since the start of Israel’s military
offensive. The toll cannot be verified and does not differentiate
between civilians and fighters. Israel says it has killed some 15,000
combatants in battle and some 1,000 terrorists inside Israel during the
October 7 attack.Israel’s toll in the ground offensive against Hamas in
Gaza and in military operations along the border with the Strip stands
at 327.Netanyahu’s speech is the Israeli leader’s fourth address to a
joint session of Congress. He most recently did so in 2015, when he
controversially sought to convince US lawmakers to torpedo negotiations
at the time between the Obama administration and Iran over its nuclear
program.
Iran condemns UN expert report on 1980s ‘atrocity
crimes’Iranian spokesman says detailed report by special rapporteur
Javaid Rehman, alleging ‘crimes against humanity of murder and
extermination as well as genocide,’ is ‘fake news’-By AFP Today, 3:22
pm-JUL 24,24
TEHRAN, Iran — Iran on Wednesday condemned a report
by a United Nations expert that accused the country of “atrocity crimes”
against minorities and killings in the 1980s.Javaid Rehman, the UN’s
independent special rapporteur on the rights situation in Iran, on
Monday called for a probe into allegations Iran committed summary,
arbitrary and extrajudicial executions in 1981-1982 and in 1988.He said
in a statement, after releasing a report with his detailed findings,
that the actions “amounted to crimes against humanity of murder and
extermination, as well as genocide.”Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman
Nasser Kanaani dismissed the report as an attempt by Tehran’s “enemies
to tarnish the image of the Islamic Republic.”“The claims lack any legal
basis and are completely rejected,” said Kanaani, accusing Rehman of
“abusing his position” and spreading “false news.”In his report, Rehman
said there should be “no impunity for such gross human rights
violations, regardless of when they were committed.”“The Iranian regime
and its leaders should not be allowed to escape the consequences of
their crimes against humanity and genocide,” he added. The expert, whose
mandate ends on July 31, said that “the targeting and victimizing of
religious, ethnic and linguistic minorities and political opponents
continued with complete impunity during, and since, the first decade of
the establishment of the Islamic Republic in 1979.”He highlighted in
particular attacks on the Baha’i — Iran’s largest non-Muslim minority —
which he said was “targeted with genocidal intent and persecution.”In
response, Kanaani said: “Iran reserves its legal right to protest this
wrong process in some human rights institutions.”
Soldier
seriously injured in Hezbollah rocket attack on northern border-Military
says barrages and explosive-laden drones fired at Mount Dov, Kiryat
Shmona, Galilee Panhandle; drones launched from Iraq intercepted by
fighter jets-By Emanuel Fabian-Today, 10:19 am-jul 24,24
The
Israel Defense Forces said Wednesday that a soldier was seriously
injured a day earlier by rocket fire from Lebanon on the Mount Dov area,
as the Hezbollah terror group claimed a number of attacks on
communities and outposts along the northern border.Rocket and drone
alert sirens sounded in northern communities near the border with
Lebanon multiple times throughout the day.The IDF said Tuesday evening
that several projectiles had been fired at Mount Dov — which houses
several military bases and no towns — and some 15 rockets were launched
from Lebanon at the Kiryat Shmona area. Earlier in the day, a barrage of
rockets was fired from Lebanon at the Galilee Panhandle. Some of the
rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome system.Additionally, there
were several drone attacks on northern Israel. According to the IDF,
several explosive drones impacted the Mount Meron area while others were
intercepted. The military said troops responded to the attacks by
shelling launch sites with artillery, and fighter jets struck a
Hezbollah rocket launcher in Kfarhamam, infrastructure in Ayta ash-Shab,
and an observation post in Khiam.Additionally, a drone strike was
carried out against a Hezbollah operative in southern Lebanon’s
Tallouseh, the IDF said. According to the military, the operative had
been identified leaving a site from which rockets were launched at the
Galilee Panhandle. Also on Tuesday, the IDF said that it struck a car in
southern Lebanon’s Shaqra that was transporting several Hezbollah
operatives. On Wednesday, the military said fighter jets struck a
building in southern Lebanon’s Chihine that the IDF says was used by
Hezbollah to fire rockets at Israel.Additionally, a Hezbollah weapons
depot was struck in Kfarhamam, the military said. The IDF published
footage of the strike, and said that secondary blasts seen in the clip
indicated the presence of numerous weapons at the site.Meanwhile,
Education Minister Yoav Kisch told the heads of local authorities that
students from northern communities evacuated because of the war would
not be able to return to school in their hometowns in September and
would instead continue to attend schools elsewhere in Israel.Kisch wrote
in a statement that this was due to the “security complexities” in the
region, which has been subject to incessant rocket fire and drone
attacks by the Hezbollah terror group from Lebanon since the beginning
of the war against Hamas in Gaza on October 7.Calling the decision not
to start the school year in the affected northern communities
“regrettable,” Kisch called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “act
now, strongly, against the state of Lebanon.”Of 60,000 civilians
relocated from northern Israel at the outset of the war, 14,600 are
children, scattered in kindergartens and schools or makeshift premises
throughout the country. The evacuated residents do not yet know when
they will be able to return to their homes.Since October 8,
Hezbollah-led forces have attacked Israeli communities and military
posts along the border on a near-daily basis, with the group saying it
is doing so to support Palestinians in Gaza amid the war against Hamas
there. The fighting in the north has resulted in 12 civilian deaths on
the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of 18 IDF soldiers and
reservists. There have also been several attacks from Syria, without any
injuries.Hezbollah has named 374 members who have been killed by Israel
during the ongoing skirmishes, mostly in Lebanon but some also in
Syria. In Lebanon, another 68 operatives from other terror groups, a
Lebanese soldier, and dozens of civilians have been killed.Fighter jets
down drones launched from Iraq-Overnight, Israeli fighter jets downed
two drones heading toward Israel from the east, the military said
Wednesday morning. The IDF has described past attacks launched from Iraq
as “from the east.”According to the military, the drone did not enter
Israeli airspace, and therefore sirens did not sound in any towns. The
IDF’s statement came shortly after the Iran-backed Islamic Resistance in
Iraq claimed to have launched drones at a “vital target” in Israel’s
southernmost city of Eilat. It said the attack was in support of
Palestinians in Gaza. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq has claimed dozens
of drone attacks on Israel amid the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, with the
IDF reporting downing many of them. Many of the militia’s claims have
been exaggerated, but in one case it managed to hit an Israeli Navy base
in Eilat, causing damage.Along with the Islamic Resistance in Iraq,
Iran-backed groups in Yemen and Syria have claimed to have launched
dozens of drones at Israel during the ongoing war sparked by Hamas’s
devastating October 7 terror onslaught. Last week, a man was killed in a
drone attack on Tel Aviv by Yemen’s Houthis.Iran itself also carried
out an unprecedented attack on Israel in April with hundreds of drones
and missiles.Times of Israel staff contributed to this report.
Egypt
showing flexibility on IDF staying along its Gaza border to block arms
smuggling-Cairo is moving toward Israeli position despite public
declarations, which could harm Hamas effort to ensure total IDF retreat
as part of hostage deal, officials tell ToI-By Jacob Magid-Today, 10:12
am-jul 24,24
After long rejecting the idea in public, Cairo is
privately moving toward allowing IDF troops to remain in a key border
strip used by Hamas to smuggle weapons from Egypt into Gaza, a senior
Israeli official and a second official familiar with the matter told The
Times of Israel on Tuesday. The potential shift in Egypt’s position
would likely complicate Hamas’s standing in the ongoing hostage
negotiations, as the terror group is demanding that Israel withdraw from
the Philadelphi Corridor as part of the staged ceasefire deal.Israeli
negotiators since May had been discussing withdrawing from the roughly
14-kilometer (9-mile) border stretch, with the US leading trilateral
discussions with Israel and Egypt about the creation of an underground
wall along the corridor at the south of the Strip and the installation
of a surveillance system to thwart any weapons smuggling into Gaza, the
two officials said. But seeking to capitalize off a boosted position on
the battlefield earlier this month, Netanyahu shifted course and
declared that the IDF remaining in Philadelphi was nonnegotiable. The
demand appeared to contradict the hostage proposal the prime minister
approved in May, which envisioned Israel withdrawing from the entirety
of the Gaza Strip in the second of three six-week phases of the
ceasefire deal.A member of Israel’s hostage negotiating team along with
an Arab mediator expressed concern to The Times of Israel earlier this
month that the new demand from Netanyahu — along with another new one,
to create a mechanism to prevent the smuggling of weapons into northern
Gaza — risked jeopardizing the hostage talks.Israel took over the Gaza
side of the Philadelphi Corridor in May as part of its offensive in
Gaza’s southernmost city of Rafah. In the months leading up to that
operation, Egypt warned that it risked harming the peace treaty Cairo
and Jerusalem signed in 1979.Egypt initially leveraged its role as one
of the mediators in the hostage talks to try and push Israel to withdraw
from the corridor as part of the ceasefire deal. But the Israeli
official explained that Cairo has gradually relaxed this effort in
recent weeks, as Jerusalem has hardened its negotiating stance.“They too
don’t want Hamas to resume smuggling on the border,” the Israeli
official said of Egypt. The official clarified that an agreement has not
yet been reached and that Israel is seeking to remain in the Philadelphi
Corridor for an extended period, though not permanently.Smuggling
tunnels were dug under the Gaza-Egypt border to get around the
Israeli-Egyptian blockade imposed after Hamas took over Gaza in 2007.
Some of the tunnels were large enough for vehicles. Hamas brought in
weapons and supplies, and Gaza residents smuggled in commercial goods,
from livestock to construction materials. That changed over the past
decade, as Egypt battled Islamic State militants in Sinai. The Egyptian
military cracked down on the tunnels and destroyed hundreds of them. The
tunnels are not all gone, though, and Israel says it has uncovered
dozens since entering the corridor in May.While Egypt has begun moving
toward Israel’s position regarding the Philadelphi Corridor, Israel has
inched toward Cairo’s stance regarding the management of the nearby
Rafah Border Crossing, the officials said.Egypt shuttered Rafah after
Israel took over the Gaza side in early May, conditioning its reopening
on the Palestinian Authority replacing the IDF at the crossing.Israel
initially rejected any PA involvement in the management of the gate,
with Netanyahu likening the Ramallah-based government to Hamas and
vowing not to give the former a foothold in the Strip. But recent weeks
have also seen Jerusalem rethink its position on that key issue, as
Netanyahu’s circle begins to recognize that the PA is the only viable
alternative at the moment, even as it pushes for major reforms in
Ramallah, the officials said. Moreover, reopening the Rafah Crossing is
integral to the success of the hostage deal, given that the latest
proposal specifies that wounded Hamas fighters will be allowed to travel
through the gate to receive medical treatment during the first phase of
the ceasefire.Egypt’s embassy in Washington did not respond to a
request for comment. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
Houthis
threaten to attack Israeli ports, gas fields after weekend strike on
Hodeida-Yemeni terrorist group releases a propaganda video supposedly
showing the Jaffa drone that was launched at Tel Aviv last week, killing
an Israeli man-By Gianluca Pacchiani-and Emanuel Fabian-23 July 2024,
10:32 pm
The Iran-backed Houthis are preparing to strike new
sensitive targets in Israel and the region, according to sources from
Yemen’s capital Sana’a quoted by the Lebanese Hezbollah-affiliated daily
Al-Akhbar on Tuesday.Sources close to the Yemeni militia quoted by
Al-Akhbar said that in response to the Israeli retaliatory strike on the
Houthi-controlled Hodeida port in western Yemen on Saturday, itself a
response to a deadly Houthi drone attack on Tel Aviv, Houthi military
leaders have added new items to their “target bank.”The Yemeni rebel
group — in cooperation with other members of the so called Axis of
Resistance of Iran-backed paramilitary groups in Lebanon, Iraq and Syria
— was said to be planning to hit the Israeli Mediterranean ports of
Ashdod, Ashkelon and Haifa, in addition to the Red Sea port of Eilat. The
Israeli gas fields in the Mediterranean were also reportedly in the
Houthis’ crosshairs, as well as oil tankers transporting fuel from
Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan to Israel through the Eastern
Mediterranean. The Houthis were also said to be planning to target
maritime trade in the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean, with the
rebel group reportedly aiming to use long-range projectiles to target
“enemy maritime trade” directed toward the Cape of Good Hope along
African coasts. The route is much longer than the one through the Suez
Canal, but has become increasingly popular since the Houthis began
targeting ships transiting through the Red Sea with alleged connections
to Israel, the United States, or Britain. The Yemeni terrorist group says
it has been targeting ships in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza
where Israel has been waging a war against Hamas since the terrorist
organization’s unprecedented October 7 attack, in which some 1,200
people, mostly civilians, were killed and 251 were taken hostage. The US
and Britain have carried out retaliatory strikes against the Houthis in
Yemen, but Saturday’s attack on Hodeida was the first time Israel has
taken direct action against the organization since it began its attacks
in October. The Houthis also released a propaganda video on Tuesday
showing what they say is the drone that was launched at Tel Aviv in the
attack last week. The so-called Jaffa drone struck a residential building
in the central Israeli city early Friday, killing a man and wounding
others. The video shows a Jaffa drone in an exhibition, and ostensibly
the moment the one that struck Tel Aviv was launched. The IDF identified
the drone as a modified Iranian-made Samad-3 drone. The drone had been
adjusted to have a much further range than normal, allowing it to make a
trip of some 2,600 kilometers — flying over Africa and Egypt, and then
some of the Mediterranean — to reach Israel from the west.
Far-right
minister slammed for seeming to equate same-sex marriage with
incest-After Knesset interviewer protests ‘unpleasant’ suggestion,
Yitzhak Wasserlauf clarifies he meant love is not a justification-By ToI
Staff 23 July 2024, 7:21 pm
Far-right Negev, Galilee and
National Resilience Minister Yitzhak Wasserlauf appeared to compare
same-sex marriage to incest on Tuesday, provoking outrage from LGBTQ
rights groups.Wasserlauf, a lawmaker from the Otzma Yehudit party, was
asked during an interview by the Knesset television channel why gay
couples should not receive all the benefits that heterosexual couples
receive.Wasserlauf responded, “I will answer you with a question, can a
father and daughter get married?”When the interviewer responded that
they could not, noting that it was incest, Wasserlauf asked whether
siblings could get married, to which the interviewer again responded
that they could not.“Why? Is this exploitation of a minor? Why can’t
they get married? They love each other,” Wasserlauf pondered
rhetorically.Asked if he was comparing an incestuous relationship
between siblings to a same-sex couple, Wasserlauf answered: “You said
people who love each other, you used that argument.”“The comparison you
make is unpleasant,” the interviewer said. However, Wasserlauf denied he
was equating the two situations, saying his point was to argue that two
people being in love cannot justify every kind of relationship.“The
difference between us is where we draw the line,” he said.In response,
The Aguda – The Association for LGBTQ Equality in Israel, told Channel
12: “It is simply sad that such ignorant and benighted statements come
from a person in a public position who benefits from our tax
money.”Havruta, a support group for religious gay people, said in a
statement, “Those who choose to reduce people to some sort of comparison
without a grasp on reality should examine their own morality, because
the result of Wasserlauf’s attitude is conversion therapy,
discrimination, hatred and violence.”The Israel Gay Youth said in a
statement that “more than being outrageous, Wasserlauf’s remarks are
ridiculous and show immense ignorance” and that the minister had a
“distorted mindset” for drawing the comparison.A statement from
Wasserlauf’s office later reiterated that he was not comparing gay
marriage to incest, but rather “the logic offered by the interviewer who
claims that two people who love each other deserve rights.”Religious
institutions control marriage for each of Israel’s constituent faiths,
and the Jewish rabbinate hews to Orthodoxy. Thus, LGBTQ couples — like
other couples not recognized by the country’s religious establishment —
cannot marry in the country. But by law, such relationships are
nonetheless recognized as legal for the purposes of benefits,
inheritance, parenting, adoption, and other rights if the couple is wed
abroad, or in certain cases if the couple can simply prove a
longstanding common-law relationship.
UN chief welcomes China-brokered accord seeking Palestinian unity-by AFP Staff Writers.
United
Nations, United States (AFP) July 23, 2024-UN Secretary-General Antonio
Guterres welcomed Tuesday an accord brokered by China seeking
reconciliation between Hamas and other Palestinian factions to form a
national unity government in Gaza."I think all steps towards unity are
to be welcomed and encouraged," his spokesman Stephane Dujarric said,
adding that Guterres "very much welcomes the signing of the Beijing
Declaration by the Palestinian factions."Earlier on Tuesday, Hamas
announced it had signed the agreement in Beijing with other Palestinian
organizations -- including rivals Fatah -- to work together for
"national unity."Hamas and Fatah are long-term rivals and fought a brief
but bloody war in 2007 in which the former seized control of Gaza.Fatah
continues to dominate the Palestinian Authority, which has limited
administrative control over urban areas of the Israeli-occupied West
Bank.Israel swiftly slammed the Beijing-brokered deal, with Foreign
Minister Israel Katz insisting that "Hamas rule will be crushed" and
accusing Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas, a leader of Fatah, of
embracing the group whose October 7 attacks triggered the war in
Gaza. The text of the deal outlines plans for "a temporary national unity
government by agreement of the Palestinian factions" which would
"exercise its authority and powers over all Palestinian territories" --
the Gaza Strip as well the West Bank, including Israeli-annexed east
Jerusalem.Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the factions had agreed
to set up an "interim national reconciliation government" to govern
post-war Gaza.Speaking at the UN, spokesperson Dujarric said unity
amongst the Palestinian factions was crucial."Palestinian unity... is
crucial for peace and security and for advancing the aspirations of the
Palestinian people for self determination and for fully independent,
democratic, contiguous, viable and sovereign Palestinian state," he
said.burs-aha/dw
WEEK OF DANIEL 9:27 WE KNOW ITS 7 YRS
The
King of Jerusalem[1] was the supreme ruler of the Kingdom of Jerusalem,
the Crusader state founded by Christian princes in 1099 when the First
Crusade took the city.Godfrey of Bouillon, the first ruler of the
Kingdom of Jerusalem, himself refused the title of king, and instead
chose the title "Defender of the Holy Sepulchre". Thus, the title of
king was only introduced for his successor, King Baldwin I in 1100. The
city of Jerusalem was lost in 1187, but the Kingdom of Jerusalem
survived (also known as the "Second Kingdom of Jerusalem"), moving its
capital to Acre in 1191. The city of Jerusalem was re-captured in the
Sixth Crusade, during 1229–39 and 1241–44. The Kingdom of Jerusalem was
finally dissolved with the fall of Acre and the end of the Crusades in
the Holy Land in 1291.After the Crusader States ceased to exist, the
title of King of Jerusalem was claimed by a number of European noble
houses descended from the kings of Cyprus or the kings of Naples. The
(purely ceremonial) title of King of Jerusalem is currently used by
Felipe VI of Spain. It was claimed by Otto von Habsburg as Habsburg
pretender, and by the kings of Italy until 1946.

come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the LORD shall be
among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his
neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his
neighbour.(1/2-3 BILLION DIE IN WW3)

37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38
For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and
drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe
entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken,(IN WW3 JUDGEMENT) and the other left.

DR SAMUEL DOCTORIANS VISION - SECOND ANGEL: MIDDLE EAST
Then
I saw that the second angel had a sickle in his hand, such as is used
in harvesting. The second angel said: "Harvest time has come in Israel
and the countries all the way to Iran."I saw those countries in a few
split seconds."All of Turkey and those [inaudible] countries that have
refused me and refused my message of love shall hate each other and kill
one another."I saw the angel raise the sickle and come down on all the
Middle East countries. I saw Iran, Persia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, all of
Georgia - Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, all of Asia Minor - full
of blood. I saw blood all over these countries. And I saw fire; Nuclear
weapons used in many of those countries. Smoke rising from everywhere.
Sudden destruction – men destroying one another. I heard these
words:"Israel, Oh Israel, the great judgment has come." The angel said,
"The chosen, the church, the remnant, shall be purified. The Spirit of
God shall prepare the children of God."I saw fires rising to heaven. The
angel said: "This is the final judgment. My church shall be purified,
protected and ready for the final day. Men will die from thirst. Water
shall be scarce all over the Middle East. Rivers shall dry up, and men
will fight for water in those countries."The angel showed me that the
United Nations shall be broken in pieces because of the crisis in the
Middle East. There shall be no more United Nations. The angel with the
sickle shall reap the harvest.

Israeli negotiating
team postpones departure to Qatar for hostage talks-Team had been
scheduled to fly out Thursday, but will now only do so next week;
official source says delay meant to allow Netanyahu to first discuss
matters with Biden on Thursday-By ToI Staff Today, 10:36 pm-july 24,24
An
Israeli delegation of negotiators will not travel to Qatar on Thursday
to discuss a hostage release and ceasefire deal with Hamas in Gaza as
previously planned, delaying their departure, a senior Israeli official
said Wednesday. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said
the reason for the delay was the postponement of the meeting between
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Joe Biden from
Tuesday to Thursday, adding that the premier intends to discuss the
emerging deal with the president to weigh how to proceed. The source also
said the negotiating team will depart for talks after the meeting, but
did not say when. Hebrew media outlets reported the delegation may only
leave next week. The source emphasized that negotiators are continuing
conversations with Arab mediators remotely despite the delay.Families of
hostages held by Hamas expressed outrage at the report that the
delegation’s trip was delayed.“Instead of proclaiming before Congress
that he accepts the deal on the table, Netanyahu is stopping the deal
from going ahead for personal reasons,” said Einav Zangauker, mother of
Hamas hostage Matan Zangauker.“Even if we learn of additional dead
hostages in the Hamas tunnels, he will continue on his public relations
tour of the US and continue dragging his feet,” she added.Earlier in the
day, Zangauker, who published footage on Tuesday of her son’s
kidnapping, said “almost 60 families” have seen footage of their loved
ones from when they were abducted or early in their captivity, adding
that families should all be allowed to publicize the material if they
want to as part of the struggle for the hostages’ release. The hostage
families held a protest march from Dizengoff Square to Hostages Square
in Tel Aviv Wednesday to watch Netanyahu’s address, followed by a
rally.Meanwhile, National Unity party chief Benny Gantz called on
Netanyahu to “put your money where your mouth is” regarding a hostage
deal, arguing that the prime minister was delaying a deal for political
reasons.“The outline we drew up for the return of the hostages in the
war cabinet about two months ago,” which was subsequently publicly
presented by US President Joe Biden, “could have been advanced weeks ago
and it should be implemented in a short period of time,” Gantz told
reporters in the Knesset.“The hostages do not have another day, and
there is not another minute. Since the previous outline, we have lost a
quarter of the living hostages,” he said.“We have a moral obligation to
return everyone — the living, as well as those who died — to their
families. The fact that the Israeli delegation has been waiting without
instructions for over a week, because at the political level, there are
those who are waiting for the recess of the Knesset in order to move
forward, is the painful proof that political considerations have
penetrated the holiest of holies of Israel’s security and matters of
life and death.”Netanyahu is believed to fear agreeing to a deal will
cause his far-right partners Itamar Ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich to
bolt the coalition, as they have warned they will do, as they fear it
will end the war before Hamas is fully defeated.“Mr. Prime Minister, if
you stand behind the outline we agreed on together” then it is time to
“put your money where your mouth is,” he said, switching briefly to
English.“If you do not intend to return the hostages because you think
the plan is not good enough and cannot guarantee Israel’s security,
stand up before the citizens of Israel and tell them the truth — however
complex, difficult and painful it may be. Political considerations must
not come before the security of the country, its resilience, and the
return of the hostages,” Gantz said.He emphasized that Netanyahu “will
receive full backing from the people, and political backing as well” if
he approves the proposal, allowing Israel to pivot to restoring security
in the north.During the Hamas October 7 onslaught, which saw some 1,200
people killed, most of whom were civilians, Hamas terrorists also
kidnapped 251 people. It is believed that 120 hostages remain in Gaza,
including the bodies of 44 confirmed dead by the IDF.The proposed deal
would first include a “full and complete” six-week ceasefire that would
see the release of a number of hostages, including women, the elderly,
and the wounded, in exchange for the release of hundreds of Palestinian
prisoners. During these 42 days, Israeli forces would also withdraw from
densely populated areas of Gaza and allow the return of displaced
people to their homes in northern Gaza.Over that period, Hamas, Israel,
and mediators would also negotiate the terms of the second phase that
could see the release of the remaining male hostages, both civilians and
soldiers. In return, Israel would free additional Palestinian prisoners
and detainees. The third phase would see the return of any remaining
hostages, including bodies of dead captives, and the start of a
years-long reconstruction project.
Taiwan's annual war games cut back by incoming Typhoon Gaemi-by Katie TAM with Justin CHAN in Taipei
Hualien,
Taiwan (AFP) July 23, 2024-Taiwan cancelled some drills in its annual
war games as Typhoon Gaemi barrelled towards the island on Tuesday,
expected to bring heavy rains and strong winds when it makes
landfall. The Han Kuang exercises, which started Monday, are held every
year across Taiwan to train its armed forces as China ramps up military
pressure on the democratic island, which Beijing claims as part of its
own territory. But as Gaemi -- currently categorised as a medium-strength
typhoon -- edged closer to Taiwan Tuesday, the island's northeastern
regions started seeing heavy rains, with the Central Weather
Administration predicting landfall by late Wednesday.Defence ministry
spokesman Sun Li Fang told reporters at an airbase in Hualien that the
military will make "flexible adjustments based on the weather conditions
in our exercise missions"."At present, the impact of the typhoon is
more obvious in the eastern region and we will make some adjustments to
some sea and air exercises due to the typhoon situation," he said on
Tuesday.By nightfall, Gaemi packed sustained wind speeds of 155
kilometres (96 miles) per hour as it headed towards the island's
northeastern coast, prompting several cities -- including Taipei -- to
announce a typhoon holiday and cancelling schools for
Wednesday."Tomorrow (Wednesday), please stay home," Taipei mayor Chiang
Wan-an said on Facebook."Typhoon Gaemi, the first to make landfall this
year, continues to intensify... please pay attention to your
safety."Authorities said they were planning to evacuate more than 1,400
people from mountainous areas in the northeast by Tuesday evening, while
Taiwanese airline EVA announced the cancellation of more than 20
departing flights from the international airport.Taiwan experiences
frequent tropical storms from May to November, but experts say climate
change has increased the intensity of tropical storms, leading to heavy
rains, flash floods and strong gusts.-'Seek immediate shelter' -The war
games this year were a departure from previous iterations, discarding
exercises that were "more for demonstration purposes" and opting instead
to more realistically simulate an attack from China, the defence
ministry had said. The exercises will also work on decentralising the
command structure, while conducting drills around key infrastructure
points -- like Taiwan's sea ports, major bridges, and airports.President
Lai Ching-te, dressed in military fatigues, observed earlier in the day
as soldiers went through a simulated mass casualty rescue exercise at
the Hualien airforce base."As guardians of democracy, your efforts are
vital for national security & demonstrate our commitment to
self-defense," he said on social media platform X.By afternoon, he
arrived in New Taipei City at a port to oversee an elaborate simulation
of various emergency situations as part of the annual civilian defence
drills -- which run concurrently with Han Kuang.Lai watched a scenario
whereby Chinese missiles had hit the port and its surroundings --
according to an announcer narrating over loudspeaker -- which prompted
workers to evacuate civilians. In Taipei, air raid sirens blared and
staff at a train station ushered passengers out, while some people
sheltered in a parking lot.Taipei residents also received an automated
text message that said: "(Air Defense Drill) Incoming missile/rocket
threat. Seek immediate shelter."Lai, who is a staunch defender of
Taiwan's democracy, is regarded as a "dangerous separatist" by
China.Three days after he was sworn into office in May, China launched
war games simulating an encirclement of the island as "punishment" for
his inauguration speech, which Beijing said was a "confession of Taiwan
independence".China has said it would never renounce the use of force to
bring Taiwan under its control, and maintains a near-daily military
presence around the island by sending in warplanes, navy vessels and
drones.
