The technology authenticates people with high accuracy whether indoors or outdoors, enabling hand-free identity verification and strong security in high-throughput scenarios.While NEC does not mention airport applications specifically in the announcement, it is an obvious area for potential application, between the prominent place of the company in the aviation security industry and the trend in that sector towards on-the-move passenger verification.The hardware needed consists of a compact camera, infrared light, a processing unit and a display, and can be installed with existing entrances and gates, NEC says.Proof-of-concept trials are launching with NEC customers this year, with the aim of completing production implementations in 2027.NEC refers to its consistent high marks for accuracy in NIST evaluations of facial recognition and iris biometrics, and says that fusing the two allows for instant identification of subjects from a database of 100 million while they are walking at up to six kilometers per hour (3.7 mph). It works up to three meters away, the company says.The technology is built with NEC’s foundation model learning, which self-teaches tolerance to adverse conditions for capturing biometric features, like blurring caused by motion, people looking away or wearing glasses.The company launched a new technology for multimodal face and iris biometrics with a single, low-resolution image in late-2024, months after introducing a facial recognition system for identifying multiple people in motion at the same time.

Much as computer viruses started as an arcane problem and became something as common as household insects, deepfakes have grown from their debut in the shadows to a problem every enterprise (and, increasingly, every individual) must face.In Japan, telecom firms have taken up the deepfake detection gauntlet to crack down on synthetic audio generated using AI tools. NHK reports that NTT East, a subsidiary of major telco Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT), has teamed up with NABLAS, an AI research startup incubated at the University of Tokyo, to produce an app that analyzes voice frequency and background noise for telephone voice fake detection.A translated article about the project in the ICT Economic News says the app is designed to detect fake voices under various conditions, and to monitor factors including voice format and call patterns. Fake audio triggers an alert.Deepfake bosses exploit corporate habits-With its deeply entrenched culture of hierarchy and respect, Japan presents a unique challenge for deepfake detection, in that people are accustomed to trusting figures of authority. A recent piece in IT Business Today elaborates: “The scary part about deepfake attacks in Japan is how cleanly they slip into the country’s corporate habits. Attackers don’t just mimic a CEO’s voice or face for fun. They use polished audio or video to pose as top leadership, push urgent wire transfers, or squeeze out sensitive M&A details.” Moving fast, they exploit the tendency to do what your boss asks of you. “The hierarchy system makes employees hesitate before questioning someone above them.”That said, Japan recognizes the problem, and is developing regulations for so-called AI technology that include clearer rules on synthetic content and stronger penalties for deliberate fakery.“Alongside regulation, domestic innovation has become the real engine of progress. Japanese research teams are building detection models that understand local language quirks, speech rhythms, and facial structures.”Work underway to address deepfake threat-NTT East is not the only telecom supporting ventures to address the deepfake crisis. A fund affiliated with telco KDDI, the second-largest mobile operator in Japan behind NTT, recently invested in audio voice cloning tool Resemble AI.Likewise with academia. A research team working out of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) developed a deepfake detection tool for synthetic video. According to an abstract, Synthetiq’s unique approach involved the research team employing an “adversarial competitive research” approach, “in which the researchers separated into the offensive side and defensive side and competed. Through such an approach, the research team enhanced the level of technologies for safety enhancement in speaker authentication systems, protection of privacy, and automatic protection against voice impersonation attacks.”Meanwhile, in April 2025, industry leader Reality Defender shared the top prize for the 2025 US-Japan Global Innovation Challenge, sponsored by the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and Japan’s Ministry of Defense Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics Agency (ATLA) and focused on combating information warfare.

A proof of birth credential has been issued into an EU Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet by the Dutch municipality of Rijswijk in a test of integration between the wallet and the Once-Only Technical System.The test was carried out as part of a hackathon organized by the Dutch association of municipalities (VNG) in collaboration with the country’s Minister of the Interior and other stakeholders, according to an announcement from the European Commission.Netherlands-based Cleverbase provided the trust services for the birth data attestation. The attestation aligns with the technical requirements eIDAS sets out for qualified electronic attestation of attributes. Dutch integration specialists RINIS and Enable U facilitated the connection between OOTS and the municipal government.The test, part of the Uniforme Bronontsluiting (Unform Source Connection) project, demonstrates the functional connection between the Only-Only Technical System (OOTS) in the Netherlands and wallet attestation publishers under the European Digital Identity Framework. It shows municipalities now have the tools to provide information to European authorities as legally required, issue source data into EUDI Wallets, verify attributes through qualified trust services (QTSs) and connect to a standardized European eDelivery Channel. The latter capability, the EC states, will be important for the forthcoming regulation around the European Business Wallet.OOTS provides authenticated, government-issued data, and the EUDI Wallet allows people to manage verified credentials and digital IDs.“This breakthrough allows municipalities to efficiently meet legal obligations by securely providing verified identity data, such as birth certificates, through (in this case) the Cleverbase wallet,” the EC says in the announcement. “For individuals using public services, this integration with EUDI Wallets means seamless access to government data and simplified sharing of verified credentials, enhancing trust and security in digital interactions.”The EC also published a report in November that identifies and delves into six different synergies between the OOTS and EUDI Wallets; three each related to better user experiences and cost savings. The three “investment synergies” have already been successfully tested.The next step in the project is using the OOTS Common Services to connect to a verification service for attribute retrieval.

Mexico is preparing for a nationwide rollout of its biometric personal identifier, known as the Unique Population Registry Code (Clave Única de Registro de Población – CURP), which will become mandatory for all residents from February 2026.The country is planning a gradual implementation of the 18-character code. Pilot tests were launched in July 2025 in several states, including Veracruz, Mexico City and the State of Mexico. From January 2026, residents can obtain the new CURP at Civil Registry offices and National Population Registry (RENAPO) offices.As of February, Mexicans will be able to use the biometric CURP for official identification when accessing both public and private services, including healthcare, social programs, pensions, financial services, school enrollment and administrative procedures. Private organizations and public bodies are required to accept the biometric CURP as a valid form of identification, the Yucatan Times reports.Mexico is also introducing mandatory registration of mobile phone numbers for all natural persons or legal entities. Starting from January 9th, owners will need to present identification documents, such as a voter card or passport, and their CURP. The decision was introduced by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (Comisión Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones – CRT) last month to prevent phone scams.The biometric CURP is a modernized version of Mexico’s traditional identification system, which now involves face, fingerprint and iris biometrics. In July, the government signed a law that turned the previously optional citizen code into a mandatory document.The regulation also allowed the consolidation of the citizen codes into the Unified Identity Platform, which will be connected to other state databases and administrative records. The goal is to reduce fraud, identity theft and administrative errors.The introduction of the biometric CURP has been greeted with suspicion from privacy advocates, who have raised concerns over surveillance and data security issues. Some parts of the country have seen court injunctions against the biometric identifier.To dispel fears, the government has announced investments into cybersecurity, including a US$27 million cloud services contract. The total for 2024 was 675 incidents.‘Almost complete impunity’ Since the Gaza war began, Israeli authorities had also “further expanded the use of unlawful force, arbitrary detention and torture,” the UN report said.Increased “repression of civil society and undue restrictions on media freedoms (and) severe movement restrictions” had also characterized “an unprecedented deterioration of the human rights situation” in the West Bank, it said.There had also been rapid expansions of settlements, considered illegal under international law, even as unlawful killings of Palestinians were taking place “with almost complete impunity,” the report charged.Of the more than 1,500 killings of Palestinians that took place between the start of 2017 and September 30 last year, Israeli authorities had opened just 112 investigations, resulting in only one conviction, it pointed out.Thousands of Palestinians meanwhile remain arbitrarily detained by Israeli authorities, mostly under so-called “administrative detention,” without charge or trial, it said.The report said it had found “reasonable grounds to believe that this separation, segregation, and subordination is intended to be permanent… to maintain oppression and domination of Palestinians.”This, it stressed, amounts to a violation of an international anti-racism convention, “which prohibits racial segregation and apartheid.”The UN rights office on Wednesday urged Israel to end its “unlawful presence in the occupied Palestinian territory, including by dismantling all settlements and evacuating all settlers, and to respect the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.”

COULD THE FALLING STARS-PLANETS BE PLEIADES AND ORION-JUST MY THOUGHT

However modern observations show that this most famous of open clusters is comprised of several hundred stars wreathed in intricately structured nebulosity.As the Pleiades cluster is close to the ecliptic (within 4°) in the constellation of Taurus it is a spring and autumnal 'seasonal' object in both the northern and southern hemispheres. Being close to the ecliptic, there are frequent occultations of the cluster with the Moon and planets. To our superstitious ancestors these were, no doubt, portentious events. Likewise, the apparent annual motion of the cluster would have been highly significant. The heliacal (near dawn) rising of the Pleiades in spring in the northern hemisphere has from ancient times augured the opening of the seafaring and farming season: while its dawn autumnal setting marked the season's end.And also Spring and fall are Bird migration seasons in Israel.It would not surprise me if Israeli wars are not fought around the time of the Pleiades-Orion happenings.The Bible contains three direct references to the Pleiades in Job 9:9 and 38:31, and Amos 5:8, and a single indirect reference in the New Testament. This latter passage (Revelation 1:16) describes a vision of the coming of the Messiah – who holds, in his right hand, seven stars.Well since the meteors do hit the earth in the last 6 months of the 7 year tribulation period.I believe.Jesus' return will be only 6 months or so from happening.So this Pieades (meteorites) earth hit would be warning the world that Jesus is about to return to earth literally.

Sydney, Australia (SPX) Jan 06, 2026-Space Machines Company (SMC) has been awarded a 2.9 million Australian dollar contract by Defence's Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator (ASCA) to develop the Space Threat Analysis and Response System, or STARS, under the Emerging and Disruptive Technologies Decision Advantage program. The capability is intended to strengthen the protection of Australian and allied space assets in increasingly contested orbits by improving threat detection and response planning.STARS is being developed to enhance Australia's space situational awareness by predicting close approaches, rendezvous and proximity operations windows, and potential interference with Australian and allied spacecraft by other objects in low Earth orbit. The system is planned for integration into space command-and-control environments such as SMC's Solstice OS, which is used to manage spacecraft fleets and on-demand orbital services."The dynamic nature of the space environment demands automated systems capable of processing complex data and generating actionable intelligence at unprecedented speeds. STARS addresses a critical need for enhanced space domain awareness through autonomous analysis and response planning.
