WHEREAS the Liberal government has indicated they plan on introducing a new carbon tax in 2015; and
WHEREAS Ontario taxpayers have already been burdened with a health tax of $300 to $900 per person that doesn’t necessarily go into health care, a $2-billion smart meter program that failed to conserve energy, and households are paying almost $700 more annually for unaffordable subsidies under the Green Energy Act; and
WHEREAS a carbon tax scheme would increase the cost of everyday goods including gasoline and home heating; and
WHEREAS the government continues to run unaffordable deficits without a plan to reduce spending while collecting $30 billion more annually in tax revenues than 11 years ago; and
WHEREAS the aforementioned points lead to the conclusion that the government is seeking justification to raise taxes to pay for their excessive spending, without accomplishing any concrete targets;

LONDON, Ontario - As the Liberals wrap their winter caucus retreat here, Canadians have almost no new information about the party or the ideas of its leader, Justin Trudeau.Southern Ontario was a Liberal stronghold prior to the last election, but the party lost more than 20 seats in 2011 - seats it desperately needs to win back.Anyone expecting some semblance of a platform to be unveiled this week would be disappointed.Trudeau said his policy proposals won't be revealed until the election, which would give Canadians under 40 days to familiarize themselves with them.In the meantime, Trudeau isn't saying much.When asked Wednesday whether the Conservatives should abandon their plans for a balanced budget after delaying the budget until April, Trudeau attacked the government for its myopic focus on the oilsands and shared some platitudes."One of the things Canadians expect of their government is to be fiscally responsible," he said. "It's not particularly responsible to put all your eggs in the same basket, to pin all your hopes on oil prices remaining high and when they fall, being forced to make it up as they go along."Trudeau also dodged questions on Canada's mission in Iraq. Trudeau wouldn't say whether Canada's participation in the coalition mission against ISIS makes it more vulnerable as a target."Canada has always played a role in the world and we'll always continue to," he said.
