Incident: Delta B772 at Atlanta on Jan 18th 2015, smoke on takeoff observed by other flight crew-By Simon Hradecky, created Monday, Jan 19th 2015 16:45Z, last updated Monday, Jan 19th 2015 16:45Z
A Delta Airlines Boeing 777-200, registration N701DN performing flight DL-95 from Atlanta,GA (USA) to Tokyo Narita (Japan) with 308 people on board, was in the initial climb out of Atlanta's runway 27R when the flight crew of another aircraft taxiing on a taxiway near the end of runway 27R reporting seeing smoke off the left hand side of the Boeing 777 upon rotation, possibly smoke from a tyre while passing the PAPI's runway 09L. The crew levelled off at 7000 feet, declared emergency and returned to Atlanta for a safe landing on runway 27R. The aircraft vacated the runway and stopped on an adjacent taxiway requesting emergency services to check for any fires around the aircraft advising that the inboard forward brakes of the left hand main gear indicated higher than all the other brakes. Emergency services reported seeing smoke from the left side during landing, too.Following examination and repairs the aircraft was able to depart again after about two hours on the ground and reached Tokyo with a delay of 2 hours.

Tragedy Averted: Pilot Of JetBlue Flight 1295 Aborts Take Off After Seeing Another Plane On Runway-JFK Airport accident averted after JetBlue Flight 1295 aborts take off-INQUISITR-JAN 19,15
A JetBlue flight ready to take off from New York to Austin, Texas had to abort the take off at the last minute after another plane crossed the runway. According to ABC News, this shocking incident happened on Saturday evening at the John F Kennedy International Airport in New York.A JetBlue spokesperson, Rick Clark, has confirmed that the incident happened to JetBlue Flight 1295 that was scheduled to fly from New York to Austin, Texas. Mr. Clark added that the JetBlue aircraft had gathered full take-off speed when the other aircraft, a Caribbean Airways flight, later identified as Flight 526 crossed the runway without warning. The pilot of JetBlue Flight 1295 had very little time to take evasive action and slam the brakes. He added that there were no injuries reported from the aircraft after the pilot slammed the emergency brakes. It is unclear as to how close the two aircraft were. After the incident, the JetBlue aircraft taxied back to the gates and took off three hours later — inconveniencing passengers even further.Meanwhile, other JetBlue officials claim that the Caribbean Airways Flight 526 crossed the runway without authorization. There has been no official response from Caribbean Airways officials so far, reports the Syracuse. The Federal Aviation Administration is likely to investigate this incident although officials from the FAA have chosen to remain tight lipped about this incident as of now. This close call between two aircraft nearly colliding at an airport reminds us of this breathtaking video that went viral last year. The video shows a similar situation where the pilot of an aircraft attempting to land at an airport in Barcelona notices another aircraft crossing the runway. The pilot of the approaching aircraft aborts the landing maneuver and comes back again later to safely land the plane. The aircraft involved in that particular incident were an Aerolineas Argentineas Airbus A340 and a Russian UT Air Boeing 767.The latest incident at New York is more proof that even with the tremendous advances in technology, human errors could still lead to a catastrophic air tragedy.

No sign so far of terrorism, pilot suicide: QZ8501 crash investigators-UPDATED: 19 Jan 2015 22:31-CNA

JAKARTA: Indonesian investigators probing the crash of AirAsia Flight QZ8501 said on Monday (Jan 19) that analysis of the aircraft's cockpit voice recorder so far shows no sign that terrorism or pilot suicide played a role in the disaster. The Airbus A320-200 vanished from radar screens in bad weather on December 28, less than halfway into a two-hour flight from Indonesia's second-biggest city of Surabaya to Singapore. The crash killed all 162 people aboard.Investigators said they had listened to the whole of the recording but transcribed only about half. "So far, there's no sign of terrorist activity," said Mardjono Siswosuwarno, the lead investigator in the probe."We didn't hear any voice of other persons other than the pilots," said Nurcahyo Utomo, another investigator from Indonesia's Transportation Safety Committee. "We didn't hear any sounds of gunfire or explosions. For the time being, based on that, we can eliminate the possibility of terrorism." He also said nothing heard on the audio recording so far suggested pilot suicide played a role in the crash. The voice recorder was recovered along with a flight-data recorder from the crash site in the Java Sea last week.
