"By 10 a.m., there was a line around the block."Echoing statements by other Israeli officials - including Jewish Agency Chairman Natan Sharansky - Benhaim expressed confidence that the number of Jews leaving France for Israel would break last year's record figure of more than 7,200. Hotovely told Arutz Sheva that the visit comes from the understanding that the religious Zionist public "is the central player in deciding who will be the next prime minister."Anyone who views themselves as rightist and not interested in the left taking control of the government "should chose the next prime minister - not next to him, not vaguely and not parties that as it were have a right-wing feeling," she said. "Every vote that doesn't go to Likud risks bringing a reality in which Likud and Jewish Home will sit in the opposition."Hotovely attempted to explain how in the present coalition Likud and Jewish Home released 78 terrorists as a "gesture" to the Palestinian Authority (PA) and froze Jewish construction in eastern Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria for many long months without any direct foreign demand to do so."We saw how the Likud functions as a ruling government in the previous Knesset, as opposed to the current Knesset in which Likud was just the prime minister without a basic maneuvering area, due to Yair Lapid joining," claimed Hotovely.The mention of the previous Knesset comes despite charges that since Netanyahu took power in 2009, Jerusalem has been divided de facto with eight neighborhoods forbidden to Jews. "Whoever wanted a large Jewish Home to protect Likud from the right discovered that next to a large Jewish Home is an even larger Yesh Atid," said Hotovely, pointing to the last elections in which Jewish Home got 11 seats and Yesh Atid got 19. "The leftist forces...could in the end bring us a government that won't only freeze construction, but also return all of the settlements."Hotovely's comment refers to the plan of Labor's Yitzhak Herzog to divide Jerusalem and give up large parts of Israel's Biblical homeland in Judea and Samaria to the PA. Our expectations of Palestine and their leadership will therefore increase," Loefven told reporters during Abbas' visit to Stockholm, according to the AFP news agency."There is no contradiction between keeping good relations with Palestine and keeping good relations with Israel," Loefven added.The announcement of Sweden's recognition of "Palestine" in late October saw withering verbal jabs about IKEA furniture between Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman and Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom, as well as Swedish financial institutions boycotting Israeli companies. Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas torpedoed the last "peace talks" with Israel by forming a unity partnership with Hamas, and is currently pursuing a unilateral International Criminal Court (ICC) lawsuit against Israel in breach of the 1993 Oslo Accords that formed his PA.But according to Abbas he will work to revive the talks with Israel, in statements made on Tuesday during a visit to Stockholm in Sweden, reports The Associated Press.During his Swedish press conference Abbas avoided questions about how to end the conflict with Israel or curb the terrorism of his unity partner Hamas - Abbas is himself head of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and Fatah terrorist organizations, and Fatah took part in Hamas's latest terror war.Abbas's term in elected office ended in January, 2009, but poking at his rival "unity partner" Hamas that ousted Fatah from Gaza in 2005, Abbas said the Palestinian Arabs must be able to pick "who should lead them and if they accept violence or not."This is Abbas's first visit to Sweden since 2009, and comes three months after Sweden became the first European Union (EU) member to recognize the PA as the "state of Palestine."Abbas thanked Sweden for the gesture, which has plummeted Israeli relations with Sweden to an all-time low.Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom previously said that she would use Abbas's visit to "prepare for a revived peace process."Last month, Wallstrom announced she was indefinitely postponing a planned trip to Israel; Israel responded that Wallstrom was not welcome for an official visit in the country.

A record number of French Jews flocked to "Israel opportunities" fairs throughout France this week, as Israeli officials anticipate an unprecedented wave of French aliyah to only increase in 2015.Some 8,000 people, mostly between the ages of 16 and 35, have visited the "Orient-a-Sion" fairs taking place in Paris, Lyon and Marseilles - well over 1% of the entire French Jewish community.The fairs, which were jointly organized by The Jewish Agency for Israel and the Ministry of Aliyah and Immigrant Absorption, aim to expose French Jews to the range of opportunities available to them in Israel, as well as to "Israel experience" programs offered by Masa Israel Journey, a joint initiative of The Jewish Agency and the Government of Israel.Dozens of representatives from Israeli organizations and government bodies, including the mayors of several Israeli cities, presented families in attendance with housing options, employment opportunities, and educational programs available to them in Israel."We have been doing this for years, and we could not believe our eyes," said Daniel Benhaim, head of the Jewish Agency delegation in France. "By 10 a.m., there was a line around the block."Echoing statements by other Israeli officials - including Jewish Agency Chairman Natan Sharansky - Benhaim expressed confidence that the number of Jews leaving France for Israel would break last year's record figure of more than 7,200. Those numbers were more than double the previous year (3,400) and triple the number seen in 2012 (1,900).In Paris alone, some 6,000 people participated in the event, three times the 2,000 who attended last year.At more than half a million, France's Jewish community is the largest in Europe and third largest in the world, after Israel and the United States.But French Jews, particularly in Paris, have been severely shaken by last month's deadly terror rampage which left 17 people dead - four of them in an assault on a Jewish supermarket in the capital.Even prior to the attacks in January The Jewish Agency had predicted that 10,000 people would make aliyah in 2015, as anti-Semitism reached unbearable levels, with assaults, vandalism and incitement all on the rise. Those estimates are now being revised upward as calls to The Jewish Agency's Paris offices have tripled in recent weeks.According to the Jewish Agency, some 1,700 young French Jews are expected to participate in Masa programs to Israel this year."There is a major shift occurring in France, and we expect more than 10-15,000 immigrants this year. What we saw today confirms that," said Benhaim.But Jewish Agency Director-General Alan Hoffmann - who attended the event along with a solidarity mission of North American Jewish leaders - emphasized that the fact that French Jews were opting specifically for Israel was significant."While growing economic unrest and a frightening recent wave of anti-Semitism in France are certainly push factors for emigration, France is a free, Western country, and the choice of Israel over other options is a function of intrinsic connectedness, rather than one of necessity," Hoffmann noted."The presence of a strong Jewish Agency delegation engaged in Israel experience programming from high-school onward makes the choice of Israel organic for this community. Israel is a regular part of their lives," she added.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will arrive on Wednesday to Eli, a town in the Binyamin region of Samaria, in an election campaign initiative of Likud Deputy Transportation Minister Tzipi Hotovely.
Hotovely told Arutz Sheva that the visit comes from the understanding that the religious Zionist public "is the central player in deciding who will be the next prime minister."Anyone who views themselves as rightist and not interested in the left taking control of the government "should chose the next prime minister - not next to him, not vaguely and not parties that as it were have a right-wing feeling," she said. "Every vote that doesn't go to Likud risks bringing a reality in which Likud and Jewish Home will sit in the opposition."Hotovely attempted to explain how in the present coalition Likud and Jewish Home released 78 terrorists as a "gesture" to the Palestinian Authority (PA) and froze Jewish construction in eastern Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria for many long months without any direct foreign demand to do so."We saw how the Likud functions as a ruling government in the previous Knesset, as opposed to the current Knesset in which Likud was just the prime minister without a basic maneuvering area, due to Yair Lapid joining," claimed Hotovely.The mention of the previous Knesset comes despite charges that since Netanyahu took power in 2009, Jerusalem has been divided de facto with eight neighborhoods forbidden to Jews. "Whoever wanted a large Jewish Home to protect Likud from the right discovered that next to a large Jewish Home is an even larger Yesh Atid," said Hotovely, pointing to the last elections in which Jewish Home got 11 seats and Yesh Atid got 19. "The leftist forces...could in the end bring us a government that won't only freeze construction, but also return all of the settlements."Hotovely's comment refers to the plan of Labor's Yitzhak Herzog to divide Jerusalem and give up large parts of Israel's Biblical homeland in Judea and Samaria to the PA. Netanyahu voiced his own support of the "two state solution" in the controversial 2009 Bar Ilan speech.
Recognizing religious Zionism
Regarding Netanyahu's planned speech on the Iranian nuclear threat in the US Congress two weeks ahead of elections, Hotovely remarked "leadership is tested precisely when things aren't easy with the world. Those who ingratiate themselves with the world - that isn't leadership.""The state of Israel needs a leader who will know to get up and say there is a deal here (with Iran) that is a tragedy, an agreement of western submission headed by the United States," she added.Hotovely said the media obsession with scandals concerning Netanyahu, and particularly his wife, is being replaced with issues of substance, namely the speech on Iran.Netanyahu this week charged that news mogul Noni Mozes of Yedioth Aharonot was behind the campaign against him in the press, with Hotovely noting of Mozes "the public understands there's a fight here with interests behind it."Two years ago in forming the current government Netanyahu first turned to Hatnua head Tzipi Livni to form his coalition, raising fears that if Likud wins in the elections it may seek an alignment precisely with Labor and the leftist parties, rather than the right-wing factions.When asked about this possibility, Hotovely promised "those who tasted the bitterness of Tzipi Livni and the partnership with people who are not ideological partners, those who tasted...a government paralyzed for a year and a half, the reality of a government that goes to elections after a year and a half - won't repeat that mistake again."According to Hotovely, "Netanyahu understood that the natural partnership is with religious Zionism and the haredim, and only this partnership allows him to rule for four years, and therefore Netanyahu will prefer religious Zionism and that's the root of the visit to Eli.""He wants to tell religious Zionism: you're responsible for who will be the next prime minister," she concluded.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu issued a statement on Tuesday, noting that despite the controversy surrounding his speech before the US Congress next month two weeks before elections, he does not intend to back down from accepting the invitation.Netanyahu began by sending "condolences to (US) President (Barack) Obama, the American people and the family of Kayla Mueller. We stand with you." The comment refers to a US captive of Islamic State (ISIS) who was killed in a coalition airstrike.Turning to the speech, and relations between Israel and the US that have been in great tension over recent months, he continued "Israel’s survival is not a partisan issue, not in Israel nor in the United States. This doesn’t mean that from time to time Israeli governments have not had serious disagreements with American administrations over the best way to achieve the security of Israel.""Israel's first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, declared Israel’s independence in the face of strong opposition from US Secretary of State George Marshall," reminded Netanyahu, and indeed the US did not provide any military aid in either of Israel's first two wars of survival.Moving through history, he added "Prime Minister (Levy) Eshkol’s decisions at the start of the Six Day War, Prime Minister (Menachem) Begin’s decision regarding the nuclear reactor in Iraq, and Prime Minister (Ariel) Sharon’s decisions to press ahead with Operation Defensive Shield; these were all strongly opposed at the time by American administrations."After noting the disagreements on Israel's security have occurred irrespective of whether Israel's prime minister was from the left or right, or whether the US president was a Republican or Democrat, he remarked "none of these disagreements led to a rupture in the relationship between Israel and the United States."Turning to the crux of his planned speech, Netanyahu commented "in fact, over time, our relationship grew stronger. But we do have today a profound disagreement with the United States administration and the rest of the P5+1 over the offer that has been made to Iran. This offer would enable Iran to threaten Israel's survival.""This is a regime, Iran, that is openly committed to Israel’s destruction. It would be able, under this deal, to break out to a nuclear weapon in a short time, and within a few years, to have the industrial capability to produce many nuclear bombs for the goal of our destruction," he warned."This is not a personal disagreement between President Obama and me," pointed out Netanyahu. "I deeply appreciate all that he has done for Israel in many fields. Equally, I know that the President appreciates my responsibility, my foremost responsibility, to protect and defend the security of Israel."Explaining his reason for following through on the speech despite the sour reception from the White House, Netanyahu stated "I am going to the United States not because I seek a confrontation with the President, but because I must fulfill my obligation to speak up on a matter that affects the very survival of my country.""I intend to speak about this issue before the March 24th deadline and I intend to speak in the US Congress because Congress might have an important role on a nuclear deal with Iran," he reasoned. Reports have revealed that despite White House claims of having not been informed of the speech and its ensuing criticism of Netanyahu, the White House in fact was informed before Netanyahu accepted the invitation.

The Palestinian Authority (PA)'s ruling Fatah movement and its youth division have both recently released statements honoring "martyrs," Palestinian Media Watch reports Monday."We believe that Martyrdom-death (Istish'had) for Palestine is a destiny we assume willingly and serenely, in order [to attain] a free and dignified life for our people in the paradise of the eternal homeland," Fatah stated, according to a WAFA news agency article released in early January.Fatah further praised the "martyrs" for "watering the land of Palestine with their pure blood."Listed with "appreciation" for their terror attacks are Har Nof synagogue massacrers Ghassan and Uday Abu Jamal; Jerusalem light rail rampager Abd Al-Rahman Al-Shaloudi; Palestinian arch-terrorist Dalal Mughrabi; Black September commander and 1972 Munich massacre architect Ali Hassan Salameh; and two Second-Intifada-era terrorists, Abd Al-Salam Hassouna and Sa'id Ramadan." Loyalty to the Martyrs of Palestine is the most exalted expression of its commitment to the path and to the oath to liberate the land and to persist on the path of truth, which the Martyrs paved with their pure blood," it continued.Fatah's youth movement, Shabib, released similar statements as well.Fatah regularly glorifies terror on its Facebook page, despite the faction's image as the "peaceful" alternative to Hamas or other rule and despite PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas's recent participation in an anti-terror solidarity rally in Paris.
