channelnewsasia updates in small type-The body of the only Malaysian passenger, Sii Chung Huei,(73) in the AirAsia QZ8501 crash in the Java Sea last Dec 28, was identified by Indonesian authorities today.In Surabaya, the Disaster Victim Identification Police Department Republic of Indonesia (DVI POLRI) today announced that a passenger has been identified as Chung Huei Sii (Male/Malaysian).To date, 73 out of the 101 remains have been identified, while 27 remains are still being identified, and 1 remains have yet to arrive at Bhayangkara Hospital, Surabaya.

SURABAYA, 9TH FEBRUARY 2015 – AirAsia wishes to inform the latest development on search and rescue (SAR) operations of QZ 8501 led by the National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) Republic of Indonesia.The SAR operations in the primary search area of Karimata Strait and Java Sea continued this morning with SAR divers deployed to scour the sea floor near the fuselage wreckage. However, the operations were hampered by rough sea conditions this afternoon. No additional recoveries were reported from Karimata Strait and Java Sea today.Meanwhile, SAR operations in Makassar Strait also resumed with SAR rubber boats and SAR personnel deployed to observe the shoreline of West and South Sulawesi, where more remains and debris are suspected to be. This afternoon, SAR team confirmed to have recovered additional remains suspected to be that of a QZ 8501 passenger on the shoreline in Pinrang, South Sulawesi. The remains are now on their way to Makassar and will be flown to Surabaya for identification purpose.In Surabaya, the Disaster Victim Identification Police Department Republic of Indonesia (DVI POLRI) today announced that a passenger has been identified as Chung Huei Sii (Male/ Malaysian).To date, 73 out of the 101 remains have been identified, while 27 remains are still being identified, and 1 remains have yet to arrive at Bhayangkara Hospital, Surabaya.AirAsia Indonesia would like to take this opportunity to urge the public seeking progress on the search and evacuation and identification process of QZ 8501 passengers to refer solely to official information from BASARNAS and DVI POLRI.Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families and friends of our passengers and colleagues on board QZ 8501.

KUALA LUMPUR: The AirAsia X flight bound for Jeddah which had earlier today encountered a technical problem and safely landed at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) at 5.40pm, departed at 7.23pm.AirAsia X Berhad in a media release said all passengers on board had been transferred to another aircraft which was scheduled for departure at 7pm.It clarified that the aircraft had experienced a technical issue upon take-off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2)."As a safety precaution, and in full compliance with all international security and safety standards, the aircraft made a turn-back and safely landed at klia2 at 5.40pm," it said in the statement.Earlier, AirAsia Group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes was quoted by AFP, as saying, "one auto-thrust not functioning properly. Actually, okay to fly but we just returning it to base".In a text message to AFP, Tony called the incident a "minor issue".Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai in his tweet also confirmed that the AirAsia X flight (D7172/XAX172) had safely landed at klia2 after circling for several hours over the Straits of Melaka.
