Blair calls on Israel for ‘radical change of approach’ in Gaza-Mideast envoy, in visit to coastal strip, says Jerusalem, Cairo should lift trade restrictions By AP February 15, 2015, 8:57 pm 7-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

International Mideast envoy Tony Blair said Sunday the world has forsaken the Gaza Strip and called for a new approach to lifting up the enclave. On a visit to Gaza, the former British prime minister and Quartet envoy visited Palestinian families still taking shelter in a United Nations-run school.Reconstruction efforts have been slow since last summer’s war with Israel, and Blair said some donor countries have not followed through on their funding commitments. Blair said the stagnation in reconstruction was a “crime,” and took aim at the international community, the Palestinians and Israel. He said the current state of Gaza was a result of “those of us in the international community who over the years have made promises” that were not fulfilled, “those who offered leadership and failed to provide,” and Israeli and Palestinian politics that have failed to bring “peace and prosperity” to Gaza.“Gaza should not be separated from the rest of the world or from the rest of Palestinian territories,” he said.Blair called for the Islamist group Hamas, which controls Gaza, to clarify if it is part of a “broader Islamist movement with regional designs” or if it would accept a long-term peace alongside Israel. He also called for a “radical change of approach” from Israel to lift trade restrictions on Gaza “so that Gaza can truly be opened up to the outside world, and so that the Gaza people have the freedom of movement and goods and services that Gaza and its economy requires.”Blair also called on Gaza’s neighbor Egypt to facilitate movement in and out of Gaza, and lead negotiations about Gaza’s long-term future.“If we allow Gaza to remain as it is, we are making a fundamental mistake,” Blair said.

American Officials Deny Obama Admin is 'Punishing' Israel-Senior officials in Washington deny Channel 2 report that the Obama administration stopped sharing information with Israel on Iran.By Elad Benari-First Publish: 2/16/2015, 12:13 AM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

Senior officials in both the State Department and White House denied on Sunday evening reports in the Israeli media that the Obama administration is “punishing” Israel for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress and has stopped sharing information with Israel about the nuclear talks with Iran. The report on Channel 2 News stated that Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman, who is in charge of the nuclear talks with Iran, has announced that she is no longer briefing Israel about the talks, because the Israeli government is using the information in a manipulative and political way.Susan Rice, Obama's national security adviser, has also announced that she is cutting off contact with her Israeli counterpart, Yossi Cohen, because Israel has turned an international security issue to a political one, and is using it to influence internal U.S. politics, reported Channel 2.Senior Obama administration officials denied the reports as false and told the Washington Free Beacon that conversations with Israel are ongoing.“Conversations continue with Israel on the Iran nuclear negotiations,” a senior State Department official who asked not to be named told the website.“Under Secretary Sherman met with Israeli NSA Cohen and Minister for Intelligence and Strategic Planning [Yuval] Steinitz in Munich and will see NSA Cohen again this week (the Iran negotiations were obviously the main topic of conversation),” the official added.“And Secretary Kerry continues his conversations with Prime Minister Netanyahu about this issue, as has always been the case,” the senior official continued. The White House National Security Council (NSC) also denied the reports.“This report is patently false,” NSC Spokesperson Alistair Baskey said in a statement quoted by the Free Beacon. “National Security Adviser Rice maintains regular contact with her Israeli counterpart National Security Adviser Cohen on the full range of issues of mutual concern to our nations, and will in fact meet with him later this week at the White House.”“We also continue our frequent and routine contact at various professional levels within the intelligence, military, and diplomatic spheres,” the NSC said. The speech that Netanyahu will give before Congress at the beginning of next month has brought to light the tensions between Israel and the United States, as the White House has made clear that neither President Barack Obama nor Secretary of State John Kerry would meet Netanyahu while he is in Washington, explaining that American policy is not to meet foreign leaders on dates that are close to national elections in their countries.Furthermore, Vice President Joe Biden has announced that he will be travelling abroad during the joint session of Congress and will not be present when Netanyahu gives his speech.

Op-Ed: Holocaust 2? More Horrifying than the Original.Obama should personally drive Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to Congress.Published: Sunday, February 15, 2015 5:04 PM-Rabbi Dr. David Nesenoff

Never again? It's Again! We are so smart and prepared. If we should ever see before us Nazis and concentration camps then we will jump to action and make sure it doesn't happen.  After all, we learned our lessons from history and now we will never allow such an event, era or episode to occur again. While we have our eyes wide open to catch any glimpse of iron crosses and the first sighting of an upper lip, cropped, dark mustache, we are blind to the very true real fact that the Holocaust is here once more. And this one's not going to be as recoverable as the last one.Obama can go to the Saudi king's funeral, there is no election there. Obama can rekindle relations with Cuba, there is no election there. The iconic six million number calculating the amount of Jews killed, in Holocaust No. 1, is hauntingly the same census of Jews living in the Jewish homeland of Israel right now. The last genocide required great trial and error, innovation and time in order for the Nazis to figure out how to gather, kill and dispose of the Jews. This time the Jews are gathered in one spot, six million. Iran drops a nuclear bomb while the world watches. The possibility exists that Spielberg-esqe talents will then make movies about it again, museums will memorialize, memorials will erect facilities, artists and writers will produce Nobel works and the American Jews will scream, "Never again, again!"That aftermath is just a supposition because sticks and stones will break my bones but nuclear weaponry is forever. Islamic caliphate, extremist, radical, murderous terrorists with atomic weapons, dirty bombs and long range missiles along with a short sighted Washington rewrite a Holocaust disaster movie for the U.S. to star in as well.In short, there will be no Western World to write about it or build the museums; it will be a global disaster, one big crematorium. And if you don't believe this scenario then you're the guy in the old Holocaust movie that was naked and walking into the gas chamber saying, "I hope the shower is warm."So when the Prime Minister of Israel is invited by one of the branches of the U.S. Government (there are three, there is no king) and he wants to once again plead for a non-nuclear Iran, everyone should listen to him.The U.S. President Barack Obama should personally drive him over to Congress. The after-the-fact excuse that Obama is not even going to meet with him because Israel is having an election, goes directly to the aortic heart valve relationship of the United States of America and Israel. The other countries in that region and elsewhere don't have elections. Obama can go to the Saudi king's funeral, there is no election there. Obama can rekindle relations with Cuba, there is no election there. Obama can negotiate with the Supreme Ruler Ayatollah of Iran, they don't have elections there. And to Vice President Joe Biden who already announced that he will not attend Bibi's speech due to some phantom overseas trip to nowhere, Joe should cancel or postpone it because Hitler has the A-Bomb! Netanyahu should accept every invite to speak about the Holocaust 2 threat, whether it comes from the White House janitor, Monica Lewinsky, Al Sharpton, David Letterman or even the Joint Houses of the United States Congress. The Middle East is radicalized; Europe is done; Japan is beheaded; South America is corrupted; where should Israel's Prime Minister talk? In the Holocaust 2 Museum, there will be an entire wing devoted to Obama and Biden and this moment in history when they negotiated with the nuclear Nazis in Tehran and didn't want a Jew to even talk in Washington.Never again? Starting when?

Bennett on CNN: Israel Will Not be the Next Czechoslovakia-Jewish Home chairman: Netanyahu's speech to Congress is essential so that Israel can make its case against a bad deal with Iran.Share on facebook Share on twitter Share on email Share on print More Sharing Services 46-By Elad Benari-First Publish: 2/15/2015, 6:29 AM

Jewish Home chairman Naftali Bennett stressed on the weekend that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s upcoming speech to Congress is essential, despite the potential rift in relations between Israel and the United States.Speaking to CNN, Bennett explained that the speech is important in order to stop a bad agreement between Western powers and Iran. He added that Israel cannot stand by in the face of an existential threat such as the Iranian nuclear program.“We’re in the money time. On March 24 the deadline for these negotiations ends,” he said, explaining that Netanyahu’s speech to Congress will lay out Israel’s case “at the very last moment”.“The current deal that’s being discussed is a very bad deal,” continued Bennett. “Essentially it allows Iran to retain the machine that produces nuclear weapons and it only presses the pause button” meaning that, in a few years, Iran can produce nuclear weapons easily.“We’re fighting for our very survival and we have to make our best case to the American people.”Iran, said Bennett, “is using delay and deceit tactics” and the world “must take away their whole machine” which will enable them to produce nuclear weapons.“The West, who was sure they were doing the right thing in order to appease Nazi Germany, they sold Czechoslovakia. Israel will not be the next Czechoslovakia,” stressed Bennett.“America is our best and biggest friend - nothing will change that - but we have to make our case to the free world to stop this imminent threat,” he added.Netanyahu’s speech to Congress has become a point of contention not only between Israel and the United States, but also between Democrats and Republicans. The invitation to Netanyahu was extended by House of Representatives Speaker, Republican John Boehner. Obama's allies fear the trip could be used by Israel and by Republicans, who control Congress and issued the invitation, to undercut ongoing nuclear talks with Iran.Boehner defended the action, saying Congress has every right, as a separate branch of government, to operate without the administration's input. The White House has made clear that neither President Barack Obama nor Secretary of State John Kerry would meet Netanyahu while he is in Washington, explaining that American policy is not to meet foreign leaders on dates that are close to national elections in their countries.Meanwhile, some Democrats have been considering not attending the speech, though House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said last week that there will be no “organized” boycott of Netanyahu’s speech among Democrats. She suggested, however, some lawmakers might “just be too busy” to attend.Senator Bernie Sanders, a Vermont independent who caucuses with Democrats, said in a speech Monday at the Brookings Institution he would not attend the Netanyahu event and “may watch it on TV”, thus becoming the first senator to publicly declare he would not attend. He was followed by Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy, who also said he would not attend the speech and accused Republican leaders in the House of Representatives of "unilaterally" arranging and politicizing Netanyahu's planned address.

As Hezbollah fights on Golan, borders are redrawn-With geopolitical lines shifting, the sliver of Syria controlled by Assad has become part of Iran’s greater Lebanon By Avi Issacharoff February 16, 2015, 2:55 am-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

It’s too early to be certain, but it seems the battles waged by Hezbollah, along with thousands of Syrian army troops and members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, against the anti-Syrian opposition militias on the Syrian Golan Heights, are only getting started. But for now at least, the momentum is on the side of the Shiite axis, which has managed to capture several villages and towns from the Syrian Southern Front group and the Nusra Front, the organization affiliated with al-Qaeda, considered to be the dominant military power in the southern Daraa province.Still, the outcome on the Golan has not been decided. After a few days of progress, the snow and the rain slowed down Hezbollah. But even now that the weather is improving, the task is not proving easy for the organization, which has been driven to the edge of its military capabilities. The region’s south, i.e. the triangle between Quneitra, Daraa and the southern suburbs of Damascus, is still considered a stronghold of Hezbollah’s opponents not affiliated with the Islamic State. While the rebels’ weapons and military abilities are limited, their motivation is high as the area is considered to be nearly the “last bastion” of non-IS opposition forces in Syria. But even if Hezbollah’s operation in Syria succeeds and the group is able to occupy the Golan Heights, that won’t mean the battle has been won. The organization has made visible strategic gains, defeating opposition forces in the mountains along the Lebanese border, only to see the combat renewed a few short months later. In the Syrian Golan Heights, this is also a likely scenario, as, just as before, opposition fighters will most likely try to regain control of the area, which they too consider critical for their military purposes. But regardless of the outcome of the week-old operation, the very fact that Hezbollah set out on a ground campaign inside Syrian territory is an extraordinary statement. The placement of thousands of the group’s soldiers near the Syrian-Israeli border, with the organization not even trying to conceal its involvement in the battles, signifies much more than just another operation. This is a new strategy. First, on the geopolitical level, Hezbollah is trying to implement the vision only recently introduced by its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, according to whom the Syrian Golan Heights and South Lebanon are a united front. To put it more bluntly, the old order and the old geographical distribution between Syria and Lebanon is now utterly irrelevant as far as the group is concerned. In other words, no more separation between President Bashar Assad’s forces in Syria and Nasrallah’s organization in Lebanon; they are now single entity that controls parts of Syria and most of Lebanon. In the past, the leaders of Syria, including Assad’s father, Hafez Assad, saw Lebanon as part of greater Syria. Now, the sliver of Syria controlled by Assad has become part of Hezbollah’s, or rather Iran’s, greater Lebanon. The old countries have died; long live the smaller Greater Syria — under Iran’s control.Former Lebanese prime minister Saad Hariri spoke in Beirut Saturday at an event marking a decade since the killing of his father, Rafik Hariri. Hariri criticized Hezbollah’s involvement in the civil war in Syria, blasting its recent statements according to which “South Lebanon and the Golan Heights are a united front.” He even called on the group to turn the suspects in the murder of his father, who are of course Hezbollah members, in to the International Criminal Court.Ostensibly, this is a step by a courageous man, who despite knowing that his life is in great danger, formally and unequivocally challenged Hezbollah. But in my opinion, Hariri’s speech was mostly a farewell to the old Lebanon, which was once dominated by Sunnis and Maronite Christians. Hariri also understands that Lebanon is no longer the same country in which he was raised, of even, for that matter, of which he was prime minister. The Arab Spring brought with it a regional upheaval that utterly transformed Lebanon, portending a particularly bleak future for those who are not supporters of radical Sunni militias or Hezbollah affiliates. Perhaps this is why Hariri no longer lives in Lebanon.Beyond the political-geographical changes in Lebanon and Syria, Hezbollah is also trying to reshape its security balance with Israel.Like almost any other body or entity in the Middle East, Hezbollah is also prone to conspiracy theories on which it establishes its military tactics. This month, the organization claimed that Israel was backing the radical Nusra Front rebel group and its advances in the Syrian Golan Heights. Hezbollah members claimed they had seen the transfer of patients from Syria to Israel. What was seen in Israel as a humanitarian gesture was interpreted as an attempt at cooperation between the organization, which supports al-Qaeda, and Israel. This operation led by Hezbollah is designed to prevent what it considers the possibility that Israel will close in on it from Mount Dov to the west, using the Al-Nusra Front and moderate opposition forces. Hezbollah is afraid that Israel will outflank it and lay siege to southern Lebanon from the east, thus causing difficulties for the organization’s activities there. In addition, and perhaps more importantly, Hezbollah and Assad fear that Israel is carving out a path to Damascus via Quneitra and Daraa — one that will allow it easy access to the Syrian capital in the event of war.Hezbollah’s mission is intended to torpedo that possibility. How it will end, it is difficult to say. But what is clear is that the situation on the border between Israel and Hezbollah-land is as explosive as ever.

And here are the bounderies of the land that Israel will inherit either through war or peace or God in the future. God says its Israels land and only Israels land. They will have every inch God promised them of this land in the future.

Denmark synagogue attack seen as ‘wakeup call’-While Jewish community has for years been lobbying for greater security, Danish government hasn’t been forthcoming-By Cnaan Liphshiz February 16, 2015, 4:14 am-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL

JTA — From the window of the Jewish Community of Copenhagen’s crisis center, Finn Schwarz can see his country changing before his eyes.Hours after the slaying of a guard outside the Danish capital’s main synagogue early Sunday morning, two police officers toting machine guns were on patrol outside the center — a common sight in France, Belgium and other trouble spots for Jews, but which resistant authorities in Denmark had previously considered both excessive and unpalatable.“I think this attack was a wakeup call,” said Schwarz, a former community chairman who has lobbied the authorities for years, often in vain, for greater security. “What we have long feared happened and we will now see a changed Denmark. We have never seen this much security and guns before.”The deployment of armed officers at Jewish institutions came within hours of a shooting at a Copenhagen cafe where a caricaturist who had lampooned Islam was speaking. One person was killed at the cafe in what Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt called a terrorist attack.Later that night, Dan Uzan, a 37-year old volunteer security guard, was with two police officers at the Great Synagogue when a gunman opened fire with an automatic weapon, killing Uzan and wounding the officers. The trio were standing guard over approximately 80 people who had gathered for a bat-mitzvah celebration in a building behind the synagogue. Guests reportedly took shelter in the basement after the shooting and were later escorted out under heavy guard. On Sunday morning, Danish police killed a 22-year-old man in a shootout who they said was a Muslim extremist responsible for both shootings. The shooter was later identified as Omar El-Hussein.Through the day Sunday, heavily armed police officers remained deployed across the capital and beyond as authorities hunted for accomplices. The attack comes amid an escalation in anti-Semitic incidents in Denmark, including one this summer in which several individuals broke into a Jewish school just weeks after the conclusion of Israel’s seven-week conflict with Hamas in Gaza. No one was hurt in that incident, but some weeks earlier Jewish educators had instructed pupils not to wear yarmulkes or other identifying garments to school.“This reality and the attack hurt the Jewish community both by encouraging emigration and by forcing people to distance their children, for security reasons, from the Jewish community, its schools and institutions,” Schwarz said.Yet Danish authorities often resisted requests for greater security measures, an issue Rabbi Andrew Baker raised last September during a visit to Denmark in his capacity as the representative for combating anti-Semitism of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.Noticing the absence of the sort of security arrangements familiar in Paris and Brussels, Baker asked Danish officials whether they were worried about an attack on Jewish institutions.“The officials I met recognized the risks but said that Denmark had a ‘relaxed approach to security,’ as one interlocutor put it, and that having armed police in front of buildings would be too disturbing to the population at large,” said Baker, who also serves as director of international Jewish affairs for the American Jewish Committee.“I was taken aback because I never encountered in other countries this argument of rejecting security measures while fully acknowledging the threat,” Baker told JTA. “I left knowing it was only a matter of time before I got the call.”Schwarz said authorities had improved security around Jewish institutions after the slaying last month of four Jews at a kosher market near Paris. But currently, he said, there remains a gap of tens of thousands of dollars between the security funding sought by the community and what the government is offering.“I think the heavy security is good, but I’m also sad to see it because a Denmark where armed officers stand outside [the] synagogue doesn’t seem like the peaceful country I know and love,” said Schwarz. “But it’s necessary.”Denmark has approximately 8,000 Jews, according to the European Jewish Congress.EJC officials stressed that the problem of Jewish security is not Denmark’s alone and called for continent-wide countermeasures, including legislation that provides national governments with improved tools to counter the threat.“We are dealing with a pan-European problem which is being dealt with individually instead of on a pan-European basis,” said Arie Zuckerman, a senior EJC official who oversees the group’s Security and Crisis Centre. “This is part of the reason our enemies are the ones that have the initiative.”EJC President Moshe Kantor called on the European Union to establish an agency devoted to fighting anti-Semitism.“European governments and leaders who, in the name of upholding liberties, refrain from acting effectively against terrorists are endangering those very freedoms, because they are exposing them to the terrorists’ attacks,” Kantor said.Back in Copenhagen, Ilan Raymond, a Jewish physician and father of two, spoke of an uncertain road ahead.“What happened Sunday is a shock that will stay with us for a long time,” said Raymond, who learned of the attack while on vacation abroad when his 16-year-old son sent him a text message that read: “I am alright.”The attack “will have a profound effect and may cause some leave,” Raymond said. “It’s early days.”
