forensic experts spotted several irregularities in audio recordings from the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 which suggested they may have been edited, a United States news network reported.
According to NBC News, the experts said at least two different audio sources recorded the tapes, wherein one of those recordings may have been a digital recorder held up to a speaker. The Malaysian Transport Ministry on Thursday released a 5-page preliminary report on the missing plane along with the audio recording.Analysts who listened to the recordings also told NBC that they noticed four clear breaks in the audio that indicated edits, NBC reported.“It’s very strange,” audio-video forensic expert Ed Primeau of Primeau Forensics was quoted as saying by NBC.“At approximately 1:14... it sounds like someone is holding a digital recorder up to a speaker, so it’s a microphone-to-speaker transfer of that information. That’s a pretty big deal because it raises the first red flag about there possibly being some editing.”Primeau and forensic audio examiner Kent Gibson also pointed out other details to NBC on their suspicions.Gibson said that the tapes indicated that “Malaysian authorities or whoever presented this made edits for whatever reason”.He added that ”it’s not the way to handle evidence,” but it also did not necessarily imply anything about the investigation.“Unfortunately, there are no smoking guns, except there are edits. And there are clear edits,” Gibson was quoted telling NBC.MH370 enroute to Beijing with 239 people from 15 countries on board, disappeared from radar at 1:30am on March 8.A multinational search was launched to find the missing plane. Investigators think it is somewhere in the southern Indian Ocean, off the west coast of Australia. But so far, all leads and information which have been established through reports and data have yielded nothing. – May 3, 2014.

MH370 Tragedy: Aircrafts return to China following search mission
MAY 4,14-New Straits Times

SUBANG:Two Chinese military aircraft that had helped to search for a missing Malaysian airliner in the southern Indian Ocean flew back to China today from the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base here. The IL-76s aircraft of the People's Liberation Army, with 38 crew and military personnel, had conducted the search off the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Base Pearce in Perth. The planes departed Subang at 8 am and 8.30 am after having flown in to the RMAF base from Australia at 2.45 pm yesterday for refuelling and an overnight rest for the crew and military personnel. The Chinese search team, led by Senior Colonel Liu Dian Jun, returned after it was announced last Monday that the multinational deepwater search for the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight, MH370, had entered a new phase. Flight MH370, with 239 people aboard, left the KL International Airport at 12.41 am on March 8 and disappeared from radar screens about an hour later while over the South China Sea.It was to have arrived in Beijing at 6.30 am on the same day.A multinational search was mounted for the Boeing 777-200 aircraft, first in the South China Sea and then, after it was learnt that the plane had veered off course, in the southern Indian Ocean.-- BERNAMA

MH370: Chinese families head home with hanging grief-Cynthia Ng, Astro Awani | Updated: May 03, 2014

KUALA LUMPUR: Fifty-seven days since the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370, the remaining family members putting up at hotels in Beijing are making their way home after MAS announced that it will shut down its MH370 Family Assistance Centres worldwide by Wednesday."I don't want to leave of course, but I have no choice," Yan Jiacheng told AFP.His 30-year-old son, Yan Ling was one of the 153 Chinese passengers on the flight."The passengers have probably already died. I think so, but I don't dare to tell my family that,” he said upon leaving Lido Hotel for an 800km journey back to his hometown.Lido and Metro Park Hotel in the capital have been the focal point in the MH370 incident where family members gathered and were briefed on updates for the past two months. The hotels also hosted scenes of chaotic clashes from time to time between MAS staff and relatives, desperate for news on the missing airliner.Just over a week ago, frustrated relatives held ten MAS employees in Lido’s ballroom for more than eight hours as they demanded that Malaysian government give a fuller and more transparent account of flight MH370.Tensions have been running high among the Chinese family members over what they deemed as conflicting and incomplete reports shared by the Malaysian government even as the largest search operations failed to yield any sighting of the plane.Dozens of angry relatives of passengers has held protests outside the Malaysian embassy in Beijing. Chinese celebrities too have taken to social media calling for a boycott of all things Malaysian.MAS' latest decision to stop providing accommodation to the relatives sparked fresh anger."I'm very angry," Steven Wang told AFP on Friday."Malaysia Airlines have suddenly told us to leave. They should have at least given us an adjustment period for us to make preparations and collect our things," said Wang whose mother was on the ill-fated flight.MAS Group CEO Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said in a statement that the airline was advising families to receive information updates on the progress of the search and investigation and other support by MAS within the comfort of their own homes."From past experience, we understand the continuing search and investigation will be a prolonged process," he said. Head of the Joint Agency Coordination Centre (JACC) Angus Houston, who is leading the MH370 search, has also warned that the search might take up take up to eight or even 12 months.MAS added that it would keep in close touch with the families on news updates through telephone calls, messages, the internet and face-to-face meetings.Family support centres would be established in Kuala Lumpur and Beijing and the detailed plan of follow-up support and services would be relayed in person to the affected families. Meanwhile, MAS announced it will allocate a sum of money as advanced compensation payment to the next-of-kin of each Chinese passenger, in order to meet their immediate economic needs.MAS today said it has contacted the family members to proceed with the payment.

03 May 2014| last updated at 12:26AM-MH370 Tragedy: Signals based on aircraft projection: MAS-By Rozanna Latiff | news@nst.com.my-New Straits Times

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has clarified that the signals its operations centre received from flight MH370 on the night it went missing were in fact based on aircraft projection, and not on the plane's actual location. In a statement, the airline said after Vietnamese air traffic controllers (ATC) queried its Kuala Lumpur counterparts as to MH370's whereabouts, MAS OPS informed the KL ATC supervisor that MH370 was still sighted over Cambodian airspace in MAS's Flight-Following System."The word “Cambodia” was displayed by the Flight-Following System on the screen when zoomed-in, leading Malaysia Airlines to deduce that the aircraft was flying in Cambodian airspace."The Flight-Following System did not display the name “Vietnam”, even though the aircraft was over Vietnam airspace," said the statement. Questions have been raised on whether the information relayed by MAS OPS delayed emergency search and rescue efforts, which were activated four hours after the plane first lost contact with ATC on March 8.In response, MAS said the responsibility of aircraft tracking monitoring resides with the ATCs."For airlines, it is normal to engage flight following systems to assist its pilots to manage in weather conditions or route diversions. Such airline flight following systems are non-primary and non-positive controlling," the airline said.It also said flight following systems do not indicate if something goes wrong onboard."Such  situations have to be pilot initiated. Unless otherwise, airlines’ operations control centres would continue to see the aircraft as flying on its normal route, based on projected or predicted positions and locations."MAS said to make the flight-following systems work successfully and effectively, it was important to have visual depiction of the aircraft’s position, coupled with confirmation by air-to-ground communications, such as through Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) or satellite communication. In the case of tracking MH370, MAS said its flight-following system indicated that the aircraft was flying. However, there was no communication from the pilots."MAS OPS attempted to communicate with MH370 after we were flagged by KL-ATC, but was never able to make contact."On the cargo aboard MH370, MAS said about 2 tonnes (2,453kg) of cargo was declared as consolidated under one Master Airway Bill (AWB).This Master AWB actually comprised 5 house AWB, out of which two contained lithium ion batteries amounting to a total tonnage volume of 221kg.The remaining three house AWB, amounting to 2,232kg, were declared as radio accessories and chargers.MAS also confirmed that 38 Malaysian were onboard the flight, as listed in the passenger manifest released on Thursday.
