Professor Avi Rifkind, head of the Trauma and Emergency Medicine Department in Hadassah Hospital, visited Wednesday with Yeshayahu Horowitz - one of the men badly wounded in the stabbing attack at Alon Shvut Junction.Horowitz served as a medic during his compulsory military service. His medical condition has improved in the past few days.Dahlia Lemkos, 26, a resident of Tekoa was murdered in the terror attack, while another man was lightly wounded. He was brought to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem with superficial stab wounds to his face. The attack began when a terrorist driving a car with Israeli plates attempted to run down people waiting at a hitchhiking stand at Alon Shvut Junction in Gush Etzion. When that failed, he got out and started stabbing people.The incident took place just hours after a stabbing attack in Tel Aviv, in which an illegal Palestinian worker attacked a soldier out of the Hahaganah Train Station. The soldier was critically injured in the attack and later died of his wounds.Professor Rifkind was the one performed surgery on Horowitz when he first arrived at Hadassah University Hospital with multiple stab wounds 9 days ago."When I saw a woman lying on the road, I stopped the car and wanted to get help. I thought it was an accident," Horowitz explained."I then realized it was a terrorist and I ran to him. We started to struggle and as I reached to grab the blade, he tried to cut my face. We fell to the ground, but I managed to hold onto the knife. At the same moment people with guns arrived and I shouted to them in Hebrew, so they'd know I was not the terrorist. I shouted to them: 'Take him!'"The terrorist, Maher Hamdi al-Hashalmoun, was also injured in the attack. He was shot by the security guard of the Alon Shvut community. al-Hashalmoun was brought to Hadassah Hospital in serious condition.Al-Hashalmoun, 30, is a resident of Hevron affiliated with Islamic Jihad. Five people were murdered and seven people wounded Tuesday morning, after two Arab terrorists entered the Kehillat Bnai Torah Yeshiva Synagogue on Agassi Street during Shacharit (morning) prayers in Jerusalem's religious Har Nof neighborhood bearing guns, axes, and knives.Among the wounded are two policeman, one critically wounded during the shootout with the terrorists. Medics rescued him under fire.The terrorists, shouting "Allahu Akhbar", began attacking worshippers, stabbing them, before opening fire.Initial footage of the attack has now surfaced. Shots can be heard fired in the background.Police who arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting began shot both attackers dead, it has now been confirmed. They have the right to apply for citizenship, are entitled to municipal services and benefits, and have municipal voting rights.This bill seeks to allow revoking the residency of those convicted of terrorism as defined in the Prohibition on Terrorist Financing Law. It was filed in light of Israel's current security situation. Many permanent residents of the State have been involved in attacks and acts of terrorism.While the Minister of Interior is currently able to revoke the citizenship of a person involved in terrorist activities, the same action or punishment does not yet apply for residents convicted of the exact same offenses."The lacuna in the existing law effectively creates a situation in which a citizen engaged in terror know his citizenship can be revoked and many rights confiscated from him, but a permanent resident in Israel knows that he has nothing lose, because there is this loophole," Shaked and Tzur's bill states.The bill would provide the Minister of Interior with the authority to revoke the permanent residency permits of people convicted of: terrorist crimes, violations against the sovereignty of the state, aiding an enemy during war, instigating war, serving in enemy armed forces, espionage and disclosing confidential information.The explanatory notes to the bill state that "the repair to the law is necessary both from a security standpoint and morally.""From a perspective of defense, we must limit the length of their stay in Israel as well as their possibility of movement within the country. Professor Avi Rifkind, head of the Trauma and Emergency Medicine Department in Hadassah Hospital, visited Wednesday with Yeshayahu Horowitz - one of the men badly wounded in the stabbing attack at Alon Shvut Junction.Horowitz served as a medic during his compulsory military service. His medical condition has improved in the past few days.Dahlia Lemkos, 26, a resident of Tekoa was murdered in the terror attack, while another man was lightly wounded. He was brought to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem with superficial stab wounds to his face. The attack began when a terrorist driving a car with Israeli plates attempted to run down people waiting at a hitchhiking stand at Alon Shvut Junction in Gush Etzion. When that failed, he got out and started stabbing people.The incident took place just hours after a stabbing attack in Tel Aviv, in which an illegal Palestinian worker attacked a soldier out of the Hahaganah Train Station. The soldier was critically injured in the attack and later died of his wounds.Professor Rifkind was the one performed surgery on Horowitz when he first arrived at Hadassah University Hospital with multiple stab wounds 9 days ago."When I saw a woman lying on the road, I stopped the car and wanted to get help. I thought it was an accident," Horowitz explained."I then realized it was a terrorist and I ran to him. We started to struggle and as I reached to grab the blade, he tried to cut my face. We fell to the ground, but I managed to hold onto the knife. At the same moment people with guns arrived and I shouted to them in Hebrew, so they'd know I was not the terrorist. I shouted to them: 'Take him!'"The terrorist, Maher Hamdi al-Hashalmoun, was also injured in the attack. He was shot by the security guard of the Alon Shvut community. al-Hashalmoun was brought to Hadassah Hospital in serious condition.Al-Hashalmoun, 30, is a resident of Hevron affiliated with Islamic Jihad. He was imprisoned in an Israeli jail for four and a half years from 2000-2005 for throwing a firebomb at an IDF patrol officer.

Five people were murdered and seven people wounded Tuesday morning, after two Arab terrorists entered the Kehillat Bnai Torah Yeshiva Synagogue on Agassi Street during Shacharit (morning) prayers in Jerusalem's religious Har Nof neighborhood bearing guns, axes, and knives.Among the wounded are two policeman, one critically wounded during the shootout with the terrorists. Medics rescued him under fire.The terrorists, shouting "Allahu Akhbar", began attacking worshippers, stabbing them, before opening fire.Initial footage of the attack has now surfaced. Shots can be heard fired in the background.Police who arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting began shot both attackers dead, it has now been confirmed. The terrorists have been identified as Ghassan and Uday Abu al Gama,l residents of the southern Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabel Mukaber, adjacent to Armon Hanetziv. One terrorist reportedly worked in the grocery near the synagogue, both had Israeli identity cards."Two terrorists entered a Jewish seminary in Har Nof in Jerusalem armed with a pistol and an axe and there are seven people injured," police spokeswoman Luba Samri said in a statement. "The two terrorists were neutralized."Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld confirmed that four people were murdered in the attack.

Together, MK Ayelet Shaked (Jewish Home) and MK David Tzur (Hatnua) have drafted a bill calling for the revocation of residency status for convicted terrorists.Palestinian Arabs living in eastern Jerusalem or the Golan Heights - over the 1949 Armistice lines - who denied the offer for citizenship, are considered permanent residents under Israeli law. They have the right to apply for citizenship, are entitled to municipal services and benefits, and have municipal voting rights.This bill seeks to allow revoking the residency of those convicted of terrorism as defined in the Prohibition on Terrorist Financing Law. It was filed in light of Israel's current security situation. Many permanent residents of the State have been involved in attacks and acts of terrorism.While the Minister of Interior is currently able to revoke the citizenship of a person involved in terrorist activities, the same action or punishment does not yet apply for residents convicted of the exact same offenses."The lacuna in the existing law effectively creates a situation in which a citizen engaged in terror know his citizenship can be revoked and many rights confiscated from him, but a permanent resident in Israel knows that he has nothing lose, because there is this loophole," Shaked and Tzur's bill states.The bill would provide the Minister of Interior with the authority to revoke the permanent residency permits of people convicted of: terrorist crimes, violations against the sovereignty of the state, aiding an enemy during war, instigating war, serving in enemy armed forces, espionage and disclosing confidential information.The explanatory notes to the bill state that "the repair to the law is necessary both from a security standpoint and morally.""From a perspective of defense, we must limit the length of their stay in Israel as well as their possibility of movement within the country. And morally, it is inconceivable that a terrorist convicted of such serious harm to this country should benefit from the many rights Israel provides to all its residents.""In recent weeks we have exposed to cruel and horrible acts of terrorism, many at the hands of residents of eastern Jerusalem. These terrorists fall under the definition of 'residents.' This law will stand as another level of deterrence for these horrible terrorists. Not only will their houses be demolished physically, but their existential and residential status will also be destroyed," Shaked stated."Anyone who acts against the state and its citizens should and will receive a red card."

The Jerusalem municipality has approved the construction of 78 new homes for Jews in Jerusalem, AFP reports Wednesday. Municipal spokeswoman Brachie Sprung said 50 homes will be built in Har Homa and 28 in Ramot.This is the latest announcement of building tenders approval announcements. Over the past several weeks, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu gave instructions for the building of about 660 homes in Ramat Shlomo and about 400 more in Har Homa as well as approving 2,610 building tenders from 2012 to be approved for full construction.The Jerusalem municipality approved 200 additional homes last week.The announcement is sure to spark strong reactions from leftist groups (i.e.Peace Now), the US, and the European Union - all of which have condemned and threatened Israel repeatedly over the past several weeks for building homes for Jewish residents in the capital of the Jewish state.In response, Jerusalem has stepped up its own defense of Jewish building in the capital, with Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman stressing Sunday that Israel 'will never accept' the labels the international community has ascribed to the building project."One thing should be clear: we will never accept the definition of building in Jewish neighborhoods of Jerusalem as settlement activity," Liberman said Sunday. "We won't accept any limitation on building in Jewish areas of (east) Jerusalem.""We do not accept any restrictions on construction in Jewish neighborhoods in Jerusalem and there will be no compromise about it," he continued. "Anyone who thinks that the Israeli government is about to give in and limit construction in Jerusalem is wrong, we will defend our independence and sovereignty."

Ashkelon mayor Itamar Shimoni raised the ire of leftists on Wednesday after he ordered to temporarily stop the employment of Arab construction workers who are tasked with building protected spaces in educational institutions in the city.Shimoni cited security concerns for his decision, amid continued tensions, particularly in Jerusalem, and the series of recent terrorist attacks, including Tuesday’s brutal attack in a Jerusalem synagogue.The mayor explained that the increased presence of Arab workers in close proximity to educational institutions is potentially harmful to residents' security, and therefore their employment will stop until the tense security situation improves.The contractor which performs the work in the schools in the city is employed by the Defense Ministry, and it should be noted that the work carried out in Ashkelon is done by Israeli Arabs and not by Arabs living in Judea and Samaria.The decision angered Meretz MK Issawi Frej, who accused Shimoni of "racism of the lowest kind.”“Under the poor excuse of a 'sense of security', Shimoni wishes to make the city of Ashkelon clean of Arabs and contaminate it with anti-Semitic racism,” charged Frej. “I call on Interior Minister Gilad Erdan and on the Chairman of the Local Government Center, Haim Bibas, to publicly condemn Shimoni and ask him to reconsider his decision with all its consequences."The decision was also condemned by the President of the Israel Democracy Institute, former Kadima MK Yohanan Plesner."This is a dangerous decision that is contrary to democratic principles and to the laws of the State of Israel, which forbid discrimination for any reason," Plesner said, adding, "We must not allow Arab terrorism to undermine the foundations of our life together here.""Even in difficult times we have to make sure to maintain the spirit of democracy and equality in the spirit of the Declaration of Independence," he said.MK Nachman Shai (Labor) attacked Shimoni as well and said that his decision was "illegal and has a black flag flying over it, and it is appropriate that is cancelled immediately.""The fabric of relations between Jews and Arabs is now under scrutiny, and leaders are commanded to preserve it and not rip it apart in such a way that will not be possible to rehabilitate,” said Shai.MK Ofer Shelah (Yesh Atid) issued a statement of condemnation as well.“The directive of the mayor of Ashkelon to stop the employment of Arab workers in the city in order 'to increase the sense of security for citizens' is a serious mistake,” he said.“It is particularly important now, when there are winds of storm and when the fragile fabric of coexistence in Israel is in danger, that public representatives show leadership, and lower the flames rather than stoke them. Staining an entire community of citizens and marking them as potentially dangerous threatens to tear society apart. I urge the mayor to retract his statement,” added Shelah.
