Prominent Rabbi Benny Lau Backs Jewish Prayer on Temple Mount-Leading religious-Zionist rabbi changes stance in light of recent developments; 'It can't be that Jews are humiliated to the lowest depths.'By Ari Soffer-First Publish: 11/16/2014, 5:25 PM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

Prominent religious-Zionist Rabbi Dr. Benny Lau has added his voice to growing calls to allow Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount.Rabbi Lau, who had previously opposed Jewish prayer there due to concerns over ritual purity, said that the events of the past few months had forced him to reconsider his stance."Enough is enough," he said in an interview with Galei Yisrael radio, going on to level criticism against those who brandish rabbinic opinions which prohibit ascent to the Mount to further their political agendas."It can't be that you (Muslims) stand on the Mount, pray as you wish, administer it as you wish via the Waqf administration, and the Israeli people should be humiliated to the lowest depths. This is not possible," he said of the current situation on the Temple Mount. The Temple Mount is Judaism's holiest site, and also the location of the Al Aqsa mosque compound. It is administered by the Jordanian-run Waqf Islamic trust, and Jews are forbidden from praying there in order to appease Islamists who have repeatedly threatened violence should Jews be allowed to worship there.Jewish halakhic (legal) opinions are split regarding the site. According to some prominent rabbis, both Jews and non-Jews are prohibited from setting foot on the site due to its supreme holiness and questions concerning how to properly apply the laws of ritual purity there in the absence of the Temple.Other prominent rabbis disagree, saying that there is in fact a halakhic imperative for Jews to "be seen by God" at the site of the two holy Temples on the three pilgrimage festivals. It is worth noting that even many rabbis who support the former position oppose the ban on Jewish prayer by authorities, on the basis that both opinions are valid and insisting the government should not be weighing-in for political reasons. In recent years a campaign by Jewish activists calling for Jews to be allowed to pray on the Mount has gathered steam - a stance that is backed by several High Court rulings, which have thus far been ignored by authorities. Currently, those Jews who do pray are usually arrested and even face attacks by Muslim extremists. In the past few months, Islamists have upped their violent opposition to Jewish prayer rights, attacking police and Jewish visitors and culminating in the attempted assassination of prominent activist Rabbi Yehuda Glick.Rabbi Lau - who is a cousin of the current Ashkenazic Chief Rabbi David Lau - noted that the campaign for freedom of religion on the Mount could no longer be ignored, particularly since Muslim and Palestinian leaders were wielding the issue as part of their overall war against the Jewish state."The battle on the Temple Mount is no longer a battle of a few individuals," he continued. "It has already become a wider battle where both the Muslim leaders and the Palestinian leaders have set their eyes on the Temple Mount which is the focus of everything and impossible to put to the side for one moment."He added that his decision had also been influenced by recent strongly-worded statements by hareidi rabbis against Jewish visits to the Temple Mount.Among them, Rabbi David Yoseph - a prominent member of the Shas party's council of Torah sages and brother of Sephardic Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yoseph - went so far as to pen a letter to the prime minister, asking him to prevent Jews from ascending the Temple Mount.Rabbi Yoseph even branded the silent prayers of those who did manage to visit the site as "abominations."Dismissing the long list of prominent rabbis, particularly (though not exclusively) from the religious-Zionist camp, Rabbi Yoseph urged Netanyahu "not to be fooled by an extreme and eccentric minority" who he claimed were "using Jewish law" to justify a "Messianic" agenda and advocating Jewish prayer rights on the Mount.

Losing Legitimacy, Jordan Champions 'Al Aqsa'-Experts say Jordanian King Abdullah's sudden passion for the Temple Mount has more to do with his country's internal politics than religion.
By Arutz Sheva Staff-First Publish: 11/16/2014, 9:58 AM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

Jordan's tough stance towards Israel over Jerusalem's Temple Mount reflects a determination to preserve its custodianship of the flashpoint site as well as its own stability, analysts say.By recalling its ambassador to Israel, the Hashemite kingdom sent a message that deploying police inside the mosque compound had "crossed a red line" and put their diplomatic ties in jeopardy. In parallel, Jordan's King Abdullah II hosted a diplomatic push which brought together US Secretary of State John Kerry and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for talks in Amman on Thursday."Recalling the Jordanian ambassador and the diplomatic push sent a tough message to Israel that violating Al-Aqsa would endanger the peace treaty," Oraib Rantawi, head of Amman's Al-Quds Centre for Political Studies, told AFP.Kerry would not have interrupted his busy schedule and flown to the region "unless Washington realized that ties were deteriorating between Jordan and Israel, and Israel and the Palestinians", he said. The status of Jerusalem is one of the most contentious issues in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the Temple Mount - Judaism's holiest site, which also houses the Al Aqsa mosque compound - is the scene of frequent confrontations between Islamist rioters and police.Tensions soared to a new level earlier this month when Israeli police entered several meters inside the mosque to quell a particularly violent riot by Muslim extremists who had barricaded themselves inside and launched fireworks, rocks and firebombs at police."The violations at Al-Aqsa undermine the credibility and legitimacy of the Jordanian leadership and its ability to carry out its custodianship of the mosque," said Rantawi."It also an embarrassment towards its people, and this threatens the kingdom's stability and security," he added.

Jordan on the brink

Although no official census has been carried out, Jordan is believed to have a Palestinian Arab majority of anything between 60-75%.Jordan occupied Judea, Samaria and eastern Jerusalem during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war, expelling the Jewish population and taking control of all holy sites. Israel liberated the area in the 1967 Six-Day War and later annexed Jerusalem - a move not recognized by most foreign powers. But even then, the Israeli government handed administrative control of the Mount back to the Jordanian-run Waqf, which since then has taken stringent measures to prevent Jews from worshipping at what is their holiest site - as well as undertaking a series of illegal digging operations which archaeologists describe as a blatant attempt to destroy ancient Jewish artifacts at the site.In March 2013, Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas signed a deal with King Abdullah, entrusting him with the defense of "Muslim holy sites" in Jerusalem. That deal included the Temple Mount, which both Abbas and Abdullah do not recognize as having any Jewish history. The deal confirmed a verbal agreement dating back to 1924 that gave the kingdom's Hashemite leaders custodial rights over the Muslim holy sites."For Jordan, Al-Aqsa is an internal issue," said Mohammad Abu Rumman, researcher at the University of Jordan's Center for Strategic Studies, pointing to its custodianship and the Palestinian origins of many Jordanians.Jordan is seen as a key player in Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, and King Abdullah has repeatedly called on Israel to end "its unilateral action and repeated attacks" against Jerusalem's holy sites.Rantawi said this month's clashes at Al-Aqsa had "violated the historic Hashemite trusteeship, the peace treaty and the Palestinian-Jordan deal".

Hashemite legacy

The Hashemites claim direct descent from the founder of Israel Mohammed and were in the past also the custodians of Mecca and Medina - Islam's holiest sites in Saudi Arabia. The history of the dynasty is intertwined with the Al-Aqsa mosque compound, where Sharif Hussein bin Ali al-Hashimi, who led the Great Arab Revolt of 1916 against Ottoman rule, is now buried. His son, King Abdullah I, great-great-grandfather of the reigning monarch, established modern-day Jordan in 1921. He was assassinated in 1951 during Friday prayers at Al-Aqsa."Attacks on Al-Aqsa target the Jordanian leadership, its reputation and its relations with society," said Abu Rumman."They also go as far as raising questions - on the Jordanian street and the Arab street - over Jordan's legitimacy."The unrest on the Temple Mount has infuriated Jordanians and sparked anti-Israeli demonstrations and calls for Amman to break its peace treaty with the Jewish state. It also comes after Jordan joined US-led air strikes on the Islamic State jihadist group, which has seized large parts of Syria and Iraq, prompting fears of an Islamist backlash. Several pro-ISIS demonstrations have already been held in Jordan, though state-run media has been careful to downplay them or ignore them completely.Abu Rumman said failure by Jordan to react to "violations" on the "Al Aqsa" would have fanned popular discontent and raised questions over its inaction. He said the United States had understood what was at stake, and "pressure was put on Israel".Following Thursday's talks, Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh told reporters "firm commitments" were made to maintain the decades-old status quo that allows only Muslims to pray on the Temple Mount - despite a growing campaign by Jewish groups to push for equal prayer rights for Jews.At the same time, on Friday Israel eased security restrictions and allowed Muslim men of all ages to pray at the Al Aqsa mosque for the first time in months.AFP contributed to this report.

How Netanyahu Foiled Livni's Plan to Torpedo 'Jewish State' Bill-Loud dispute at Ministerial Law Committee after Livni scuttles the discussion on the National Law. Minister Uri Ariel calls it "sabotage".By Hezki Ezra-First Publish: 11/16/2014, 6:50 PM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

A sharp confrontation took place on Sunday afternoon in the Knesset Ministerial Committee for Legislation after committee head Justice Minister Tzipi Livni removed the discussion on the Jewish State bill, that seeks to define Israel as the State of the Jewish People, from the agenda.Several of those who attended the meeting told Arutz Sheva that Livni purposely wasted time at the meeting, leaving only the last few minutes for a hurried discussion of the law before announcing that the debate on it is to be put off for a later date.Science Minister Yaakov Peri  (Yesh Atid) warned that the law is a dangerous and explosive one, saying "the bill may insult the Arab sector and its timing is bad. I suggest it be removed for good."Minister Livni reminded the ministers present that in the past several similar bills were proposed and that they must be debated in the presence of all the coalition parties, citing the advice of the Gavison-Meidan Accord (a proposal created by Prof. Ruth Gavison and Rabbi Yaacov Meidan for religious-secular cooperation). "Passing this law today may impede that [cooperative] process. I am using my authority to put off the debate", she announced. The Likud and Jewish Home ministers present at the meeting were furious at Livni and a loud argument broke out within minutes.Minister Yuval Steinetz (Likud) told her "you are exploiting your authority in a detrimental way" and Minister Uri Ariel (Jewish Home) added "You are undermining the committee". Livni paid no attention to them, left the room and returned with the by-laws of the ministerial committee that show that she has the authority to postpone the debate.Prime Minister Netanyahu, who heard about Livni's decision, announced immediately that the debate on the Jewish State Law would be put on the Cabinet's agenda, in effect circumventing Livni's attempt to block it. He said "The state of Israel is the national state of the Jewish People. This issue is a crucial one for the future of the Jewish People in the State of Israel."Knesset Coalition head, MK Ze'ev Elkin (Likud) reacted sharply to Livni's postponement of the debate and said that "she doesn't stop at any dirty tricks, this to stop a basic law defining Israel as the national state of the Jewish People. Livni knew full well that there was a clear majority that would vote in favor of the law in the ministerial committee, so, trampling on accepted procedure, she decided to break up the debate and prevent a vote. ""None of these shenanigans  will work", he continued.  "A large majority in the Cabinet, the Knesset and the public are still unashamed of their Zionism and are prepared to defend the declaration that the State of Israel is a Jewish State. "n Livni's behavior today, she revealed her true visage, showing that all her speeches on the importance of guarding the Jewish character of the State of Israel were worthless, used  in an attempt to justify withdrawals from territory and concessions to the Palestinians, and for external consumption only. When push comes to shove, Minster Livni is willing to go to any lengths to prevent declaring that the State of Israel is a Jewish State".Minister of Justice Livni's responded, to the storm, retorting: "I will not give up on democracy. I will continue to fight to keep Israel the country of the Jewish People but also a democratic one. That is the foundation of Zionism, that is what was established in our Declaration of Independence and that is how it is going to be."Livni's "shenanigans" may have done more than merely angered her right-wing coalition partners, however, and may threaten  the very coalition itself. The Jewish Home party's leader, Economics Minister Naftali Bennett, announced in response to Livni's moves that his party would no longer be supporting any bills proposed by her Hatnua party or Peri's Yesh Atid party, which also opposed the Jewish State law - in breach of coalition agreements.

Op-Ed: A Palestinian State - What the World Should Expect-The world has not stopped to contemplate the snowballing results of creating a "Palestinian" state.Published: Sunday, November 16, 2014 8:39 AM-Prof. Louis René Beres-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS

"Palestine belongs to the Palestinians, from the (Jordan) River to the (Mediterranean) Sea. We must not cede this narrative. From the River to the Sea....Palestine belongs to the Palestinians; and the heart of the matter is the right of return, our cause is the right of return."   (Palestinian PA Parliament Member, Khalida Jarrar, April 16, 2014)- At a moment when supremely civilized countries all over the world seem eager to support Palestinian statehood - Germany is the latest -  few have taken the trouble to examine precisely what this support could actually mean. To be sure, the expected impact of a 23rd Arab sovereignty would be most immediately injurious to Israel, although, over time, even enthusiastic European advocates of "Palestine" would likely suffer their own consequent harms. This is because a Palestinian state - any Palestinian state - would quickly become yet another dedicated launching site for Jihadist terrorism.Oddly enough, nothing could be more obvious."Hamas is ISIS, and ISIS is Hamas," correctly explained Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu before the U.N. General Assembly last September: "They all have the same ideology; they all seek to establish a global militant Islam, where there is no freedom." Also in September, Palestinian Authority President, Mahmoud Abbas, now working together with his "brothers" in Hamas, asked the U.N. Security Council to set a deadline of November 2016 for a full Israeli withdrawal from Judea/Samaria (West Bank), including East Jerusalem. His draft resolution vaguely accepts a "Two State Solution" for the disputed areas, but all major Palestinian media continue to speak, officially, of Israel itself as "Occupied Palestine." The "moderate" PA "solution," therefore, exactly like the "radical" Hamas "solution," calls for a single Arab state, in all of the land now defined as Israel, West Bank, and Gaza."From the River to the Sea." These are the unambiguously endorsed borders of "Palestine," exterminatory boundaries that are expressed not only in words, videos, and documents, but also cartographically, in oft-published PA maps.Since 2005, when Israel "disengaged" from Gaza in the naive hope of receiving a suitable quid pro quo from Hamas and the Palestinian Authority - that is, peace and cooperation from the Arab side - the only recognizable use to which this land has been put is as a Palestinian staging ground for endless war and ghastly terror.Plainly, the only intended Palestinian solution for Israel remains a determinedly "final" one.A good way to better understand what is actually being planned here by certain advocates of Palestinian statehood is to fashion an appropriate scenario. As a useful approach to social science and international law enforcement, this suggests a speculative but informed narrative of pertinent future events. With this plan in mind, we may consider the following set of thoroughly plausible expectations.Within just a few hours of any formal Palestinian "declaration of independence," Arab citizens of Israel - there are now 1.8 million - would quickly begin to transform their initially benign and celebratory local celebrations into malignantly full-scale and chaotic riots. Among other purposes, such "spontaneous" violence would serve to display this Arab population's openly overriding loyalties to Palestine.Of course, these Israeli Arabs won't feel any corresponding need to physically move themselves to the new Palestinian state. After all, they will already understand that, in a matter of months, all of what is still "Occupied Palestine" (Israel) would be forcibly absorbed into the new state. Then, although these almost two million Arabs had themselves been citizens of the formerly-Jewish State, Palestine would frenetically be rendered Judenrein, or "free of Jews.""From the River to the Sea." This would represent the anticipated start of Arab "democracy" in Palestine. This would be the exemplary justice-based state made possible by conspicuous diplomatic largesse, in various glittering European capitals, and, among other places, also in Washington. For Israel, which would have to fight for its life yet again - and more arduously, perhaps, than at any time before in its starkly beleaguered history - the resultant security costs of staving off aggression and "absorption" would be difficult to bear. More than likely, the core enemy now, after a legally problematic bestowal of Palestinian sovereignty, would not be Palestine per se, but rather an enlarged or conglomerate Arab/Islamist adversary, one involving a discernibly broad alliance of both state and sub-state opponents. It is even possible, in these entirely predictable circumstances, that some mobilized IDF elements would be placed in direct confrontations with ISIS, or ISIS-related foes.

"Hamas is ISIS, and ISIS is Hamas."

In the short run, after formalization of Palestine, security dangers to Israel would center upon very bitter internal unrest, and also on those corollary perils originating from domestic terror attacks, expanded border incursions from Palestine, and external (Palestine-based) rocket launches. In the longer term, bereft of needed strategic depth, Israel would face a steadily deteriorating "correlation of forces," that is, an overall weakening of Israeli military capacity. This weakening, in turn, would substantially enlarge the probability of conventional war with other Arab states, and also of conventional terror attacks. If such attenuations of Israeli power were to take place simultaneously with Iranian nuclearization, a genuinely plausible expectation, the single most catastrophic consequence of Palestine could ultimately include nuclear war fighting. This dire assessment is offered not because a Palestinian state would itself have any direct nuclear capabilities, but rather because that state's creation would contribute, prima facie, to an increasingly corrosive, for Israel, balance of power. From a more broadly geo-strategic perspective, the precise hazards, to Israel, of a nuclear Iran, could be affected by what happens throughout the region along the most primary Sunni-Shia axes of conflict, especially if ISIS were to make any further progress in its ongoing territorial takeovers within sectors of Iraq and Syria.Another still widely-ignored factor in all of this prospective regional transformation is the growing probability of a new Cold War between Russia and the United States. Such hardening bipolarity, too, could impact the nature and function of other core Middle Eastern alignments.A still under-examined result of Palestinian independence would be a meaningfully enlarged threat to Israel (a country smaller than America's Lake Michigan) of nuclear war and nuclear terror. Understanding this, Palestine's emergence could spawn tangibly enlarged efforts in Jerusalem/Tel Aviv to properly strengthen Israel's traditionally "ambiguous" nuclear deterrent. Quickly, such indispensable measures could embrace a more-or-less dramatic shift to an openly declared nuclear strategy, one including even unhidden statements about nuclear basing, nuclear targeting doctrine, and intentions for maintaining "escalation dominance."From a more narrowly legal or jurisprudential perspective, there is one additional point to underscore in this scenario. Under governing international law, the binding requirements of statehood are expressed at the Convention on the Rights and Duties of States ("Montevideo Convention"), which entered into force in 1934. Among other things, this authoritative treaty clarifies that statehood is always independent of recognition. What this really means, for the urgent matter before us, is that Palestine would not become a proper sovereign state in automatic consequence of assorted national approvals, either within the United Nations as an institution, or anywhere else on earth. No matter how many states might choose to support Palestinian statehood, and no matter how venerated or powerful these discrete states might be, such support would be trumped by the specific, codified, and then still unmet expectations of "Montevideo."

FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT BELIEVE THE BIBLE.AND BELIEVE ISRAEL WILL NOT USE THE ATOMIC BOMB AND OTHER NUCLEAR WEAPONS ON THE ISLAMIC-MUSLIM- ARABS WHEN PUSHED TO THE LIMIT IN THE FUTURE.AND WHEN JERUSALEM IS DIVIDED LIKE THE BIBLE SAYS.WELL HERE IS PROOF IN THIS STORY.THAT ISRAEL WILL USE THE ATOMIC BOMB ON ITS ISLAMIC ISRAEL HATERS.AND THE BIBLE SAYS ISRAEL WILL NUKE ITS ISLAMIC-MUSLIM-ARAB HOARD THAT HATE ISRAEL- SOME TIME IN THE FUTURE.IN FACT IT WILL BE ANYTIME AFTER A PALESTINIAN STATE HAS BEEN IN FORCE.AND ISRAEL AND JERUSALEM IS DIVIDED.ANY TIME AFTER THAT ISRAEL WILL BE NUKING THE RUSSIAN-ISLAMIC-MUSLIM-ARAB HOARD TO SMITHEREENS.

Period!

In the final analysis, as Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu stated before the U.N. General Assembly last September, "The people of Israel are not the occupiers in the land of Israel." Significantly, the Mandate for Palestine (1922) reaffirmed the longstanding Jewish legal right to settle anywhere between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, an authorization further codified and protected at Article 80 of the U.N. Charter. For those governments across the world that now seem comfortably supportive of granting Palestinian statehood, the above scenario should suggest a gravely logical warning:Be careful what you wish for.Louis René Beres was educated at Princeton (Ph.D., 1971), and is the author of many books and articles dealing with international relations and international law. Netanyahu Warns US: ISIS and Iran Must Both Lose-PM says he fully supports US-led mission against ISIS, but warns against detente with Iran; 'Iran is not your friend. Iran is your enemy.'By Arutz Sheva Staff-First Publish: 11/16/2014, 4:37 PM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS
Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu expressed support Sunday for the US fight against Islamic State terrorists, but cautioned against any softening toward Iran."We want them both to lose. The last thing we want is to have any one of them get weapons of mass destruction," Netanyahu said in an interview with CBS Face the Nation. His comments came shortly after ISIS claimed the beheading of another Western hostage, US aid worker Peter Kassig, along with that of 18 men described as Syrian soldiers. In an undated video, a masked black-clad jihadist seen standing above a severed head says: "This is Peter Edward Kassig, a US citizen of your country." The masked terrorist is believed to be the same British-born Islamist - dubbed "Jihadi-John" - seen in previous execution videos, and who was believed to have been killed or injured in airstrikes last week.Netanyahu expressed support for US President Barack Obama's leadership of a coalition against ISIS and said "we're with all the American people who understand the savagery that we're all up against."IS "has to be defeated and it can be defeated," he said. But Netanyahu insisted that the situation is in fact a "global conflict" against militant Islam, not just Sunni-based ISIS and Al Qaeda but also Shiite Iran-backed Hezbollah."We want them both to lose," he said, insisting: "Iran is not your ally. Iran is not your friend. Iran is your enemy."Those comments were a clear message against alleged cooperation between Washington and Tehran in the battle against ISIS, amid claims that cooperation is being held in return for concessions by the US in negotiations over Iran's nuclear program. The United States and other Western powers have been negotiating with Iran to limit its nuclear program, with a November 24 deadline for a deal fast approaching.Netanyahu reiterated Israel's opposition to any agreement that leaves Iran with a residual capacity to enrich uranium, and urged tougher sanctions on Tehran as an alternative to a deal."The alternative to a bad deal is not war. The alternative to a bad deal are more sanctions, tougher sanctions, that will make Iran dismantle its capacity to make nuclear bombs," he said.AFP contributed to this report.
