JEWISH HOME PASSES NEW CONSTITUTION WITH A TWIST
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/184971#.VBJNYlc1Uwo
Shaked: Bennett is 'Prime Minister Material'-MK Ayelet Shaked backs Jewish Home's new constitution, optimistic regarding a union with Tekuma.By Ido Ben Porat-First Publish: 9/12/2014, 4:12 AM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS
MK Ayelet Shaked (Jewish Home) was interviewed by the Knesset Channel on Thursday, one day after the party approved a new constitution that was rejected by the Tekuma faction of the party, headed by Minister Uri Ariel."I'm glad there were differences of opinion, because that’s democracy at its best," she said, adding that the new constitution will be positive for the party."The new constitution indicates a desire for unity and leadership, [party chairman] Naftali Bennett is prime minister material,” said Shaked. The new constitution will allow Bennett to fill every fifth spot on the party's Knesset list with an external candidate based on his own discretion. It will give him the power to cancel for candidates of his choosing the 2.5 year membership qualification period to be on the party list, and let him select all placements for Knesset executive positions and ministerial posts. The party's central committee will be limited to approving the choices and not making them, as it currently does.Bennett also wants the Jewish Home's list to include secular candidates and people who will appeal to the Russian-speaking and Druze sectors, among others. These have caused tension with the Tekuma faction, which ran for the Knesset in a joint list with the Jewish Home. Both critics and opponents of the move note that the change would see the party open itself to candidates, and representation, outside the Religious-Zionist sector and reach more of the general Israeli population - a change not unwanted by most of the party's Knesset MKs.Ariel has warned that the issue, if remained unresolved, could cause a potential split, torpedoing the Religious-Zionist vote for future Knesset coalitions in the event the vote becomes fragmented.Despite this, Bennett has vowed to keep the party united - no matter the vote's results - and proponents of the initiative note that the party's religious Zionist ideology is enshrined in the constitution anyway.Despite Tekuma’s opposition to the new constitution, Shaked remained optimistic that there will not be a split in the party.“Of course there will be unity. I hope it happens soon because, after all, there is no difference between Nissan Slomiansky and Zevulun Kalfa, or between Rabbi Eli Ben-and Avi Wortzman,” she said.
Ariel: We Will Consider Our Next Steps-Housing Minister says that the Tekuma party will soon convene to decide how to proceed after the Jewish Home passed its new constitution.By Hezki Ezra-First Publish: 9/11/2014, 1:16 AM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS
Housing Minister Uri Ariel said on Wednesday evening that the Tekuma faction of the Jewish Home, which he heads, will consider its next step following the approval of the Jewish Home’s new constitution, which Ariel opposes."Unfortunately, our requests to pass a joint constitution after a union of the two parties went unanswered," said Ariel, "In the coming days we will gather, discuss the new situation and decide how to act."The constitution passed even as tensions over the vote ran high. A clash broke out between MK Motti Yogev and a security guard after Yogev requested that the secret ballots be counted to protect against vote tampering. The constitution eventually passed, however, after a compromise was struck between Chairman Naftali Bennett and the proposal's opponents.Bennett wants the Jewish Home's list to include secular candidates and people who will appeal to the Russian-speaking and Druze sectors, among others. The party's central committee will be limited to approving the choices and not making them, as it currently does. However, under the new compromise conditions set after a heated confrontation between opponents and supporters of the new deal, the constitution will be made open to amendments in another 3-5 months, and be will slated for review under the supervision of Rabbi Yitzhak Levy. Both critics and opponents of the move note that the change would see the party open itself to candidates, and representation, outside the Religious-Zionist sector and reach more of the general Israeli population - a change not unwanted by most of the party's Knesset MKs.Ariel has warned that the issue, if remained unresolved, could cause a potential split, torpedoing the Religious-Zionist vote for future Knesset coalitions in the event the vote becomes fragmented.Despite this, Bennett has vowed to keep the party united - no matter the vote's results - and proponents of the initiative note that the party's religious Zionist ideology is enshrined in the constitution anyway.Political officials predicted on Wednesday evening that if Ariel will not be able to find common ground with the Jewish Home party following the passing of the new constitution, he may split the party along with MKs Rabbi Eli Ben-Dahan, Orit Struk, Zevulun Kalfa, Yoni Chetboun and Motti Yogev.According to the sources, hareidi MKs from Shas could possibly join the party down the road.
Fatah Official: What's the Difference Between Hamas and ISIS?-Senior Fatah official Tawfiq Tirawi slams Hamas executions, brutalization of Fatah members in Gaza, compares with ISIS.By Ari Soffer-First Publish: 9/11/2014, 3:38 PM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS
A leading Fatah party member has compared Hamas's methods of executing and brutalizing its political opponents in Gaza to the gruesome executions carried out by the "Islamic State" terrorist group, or ISIS.In an interview with the Palestinian Authority's official TV station, Fatah Central Committee member Tawfiq Tirawi expressed his anger over a string of executions and shootings of Fatah members in Gaza during Operation Protective Edge, and said the "unity deal" between Hamas and the Fatah-run Palestinian Authority was "a mistake."Prior to his interview, which was translated by MEMRI (Middle East Media Research Institute), Al-Awda TV aired footage from an interview with a Fatah member from Gaza who said he was maimed by Hamas gunmen for leaving his home after being put under house arrest."I was told that I was under house arrest - I was forbidden to leave home - for reasons unknown to me," the man, who was lying on a hospital bed with his wounded legs under a sheet. His identity was hidden for obvious security reasons. He said that despite that fact he went outside "but stayed close to home. I didn't go far away.""All of a sudden, a car with three men stopped. They got out and told us to stay where we were," he recalled. "They asked me my name, and I told them, and then all three of them opened fire at me."His story matches dozens of other accounts by Fatah members who say Hamas used the fog of war to settle political scores with its rivals.Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas has spoken out against the attacks on several occasions, most recently in an interview last week. But Tirawi was distinctly less diplomatic."I do not believe that we can keep quiet about what was done to our people in Gaza," he said, blasting Hamas for what he later described as the "nightmarish" way it was treating members of its supposed "unity government" partner, Fatah."National unity is not just an agreement that you sign," he fired."That agreement was a mistake, a mistake, a mistake. It was dictated from above. A bulls*** agreement with no details and no mechanism for implementation," such as who would actually run Gaza and its numerous "security agencies".Tirawi also accused Hamas of undermining efforts to fight against Israel."If we want to wage war we must be united and prepared. How can we possibly be prepared, when Fatah members in (Gaza) are forbidden to bear arms and fight?"He claimed that several of the more than two dozen men summarily executed by Hamas during Operation Protective Edge were "officers in the security agencies.""Hamas says they are spies. Did they place them on trial? Did they interrogate them? Where are the confessions?" he demanded."According to what laws did they execute these people? What is the difference between (Hamas) and Al-Zarqawi, not to mention ISIS?" he continued. Abu Mousab Al-Zarqawi was the infamous and brutal founder and head of ISIS's predecessor, the Islamic State of Iraq."I don't want to mention ISIS, which beheads people," he went on, but then asked: "What is the difference between beheading people and executing them by gunfire? Aren't they both killers, regardless of the execution method, which we all denounce?"Hamas proudly and openly broadcast news of the executions, including photos of menacing-looking masked gunmen lining up the victims for execution, in an attempt to project strength in the aftermath of a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting key Hamas leaders. But the images - as well as the very use of summary, public executions without trial - caused many people to compare Hamas to the Islamic State, which broadcast footage of the brutal beheading of US journalist James Foley at around the same time. The comments surface after tensions between Hamas and the PA have begun to boil over, with Hamas ordering its members in Judea and Samaria to resist summonses for investigation by PA forces earlier this month; recently Hamas staged a failed coup attempt on Abbas in Judea and Samaria.
Jerusalem ISIS-Linked Group Threatens to Kill Twitter Employees-Jihadi group urges attacks against Twitter headquarters if the company keeps shutting down ISIS supporting accounts.By Ari Soffer-First Publish: 9/11/2014, 9:42 AM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS
A Jerusalem-based cell of the Islamic State (also known as ISIS) has threatened to kill Twitter employees and target its offices if the social media site does not stop closing down ISIS accounts.Al Musra Al Maqdisia (The Supporters Of Jerusalem), which pledged allegiance to ISIS in February, was among several Islamic State-linked groups and Twitter users to encourage "lone-wolves" to attack Twitter offices in retaliation for hampering jihadi PR efforts, and specifically threatened to "bring the war" the the company's central headquarters in San Francisco, the Vocative website reported.Using the hashtag "#TheConcept OfLone WolfAttacks", one tweet declared: "The time has arrived to respond to Twitter's management by directly attacking their employees and physically assassinating them!! Those who will carry this out are the sleepers cells of death."Another read: "Twitter management should know that if they do not stop their campaign in the virtual world, we will bring the war to them in the real world on the ground." Ironically, the account used to post the tweets has now been suspended by Twitter. The Islamic State has utilized social media as part of a slick PR campaign that has seen it eclipse its rivals in Al Qaeda among young aspiring jihadis, particularly from the English-speaking world. By doing away with the need for old-fashioned jihadi internet forums - many of which can only be accessed by recognized members - the group has managed to spread its message, including gruesome images of executions and "martyred" fighters, further than any other Islamist group, and swelled its ranks of foreign fighters.Twitter, for its part, has been playing a cat-and-mouse game with the plethora of ISIS-linked or supporting accounts, in an attempt to police its site for prohibited hate speech and incitement to violence. Although it has not succeeded in silencing ISIS's message, clearly the policy is at the very least hampering the group's Twitter "outreach" efforts enough to elicit such direct threats. The issue has been a hot topic on ISIS-linked forums, with users sharing simple methods to get round the bans such as making minor changes to usernames and Twitter handles.Currently, ISIS is not thought to have anything like the foreign network of terror cells maintained by Al Qaeda. However, the threat of so-called "lone wolf" attacks is still a very real one, security experts warn - illustrated by the deadly shooting at the Brussels Jewish Museum earlier this year, which was carried out by an ISIS member who returned from Syria.
10 Arab Countries Back U.S. Campaign Against IS-United States receives the backing of 10 Arab countries for a "coordinated military campaign" against Islamic State fighters.By Arutz Sheva Staff-First Publish: 9/12/2014, 2:13 AM-ISRAELNATIONALNEWS
The United States on Thursday received the backing of 10 Arab countries for a "coordinated military campaign" against Islamic State fighters, Reuters reported.According to the report, after talks in Saudi Arabia, Secretary of State John Kerry won backing from 10 Arab countries - Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and six Gulf states including rich rivals Saudi Arabia and Qatar - for a coalition to fight the Sunni militants that have seized swathes of Iraq and Syria."Arab nations play a critical role in that coalition, the leading role really across all lines of effort: military support, humanitarian aid, our work to stop the flow of illegal funds," Kerry was quoted as having told a news conference.Non-Arab Sunni power Turkey also attended the talks in Jeddah but two other major regional players - Shiite Iran and Syria itself - were excluded, a sign of the difficulty of building a coalition across the Middle East's sectarian battle lines. The Arab states agreed in a communiqué to do more to stop the flow of funds and fighters to Islamic State and help rebuild communities "brutalized" by the group, according to Reuters."The participating states agreed to do their share in the comprehensive fight against [IS], including ... as appropriate, joining in the many aspects of a coordinated military campaign against [IS]," they said.Kerry met the Arab leaders to drum up support a day after President Barack Obama announced his plans to strike fighters in Iraq and Syria.U.S. officials said Kerry also sought permission to make more use of bases in the region and fly more warplanes overhead, issues that were not mentioned in the communiqué. Kerry said none of the countries in the coalition would send ground troops.Obama announced his plans in a prime time address on Wednesday to build an alliance to root out Islamic State in both Syria and Iraq, plunging the United States into two conflicts in which nearly every country in the Middle East has a stake. The region has been galvanized since June when Islamic State fighters, already in control of much of Syria, swept through northern Iraq, seizing cities, slaughtering prisoners, and proclaiming a "caliphate" that would rule over all Muslims. The White House says the group is a threat to the West as well, attracting fighters from around the world who could return to carry out attacks at home.
