Members of a Gaza family whose farm was turned into a "fortress" by Hamas fighters have reported that they were helpless to stop Hamas from using them as human shields. They described how for years Hamas has used their property and homes as shields for military installations from which to launch rockets into Israel, dig tunnels and store arms. According to the victims, those who tried to object were shot in the legs by Hamas.

Terror attacks in Jerusalem have grown exponentially over the past few months, a Shabak (Israel Security Service) report Monday said. According to the statistics, three terror attacks occurred in the city in March 2014. In April 7 terrorist attacks took place, while in May and June, there were already 22 attacks, In July and August, the Shabak reported that there were 152 attacks and incidents of terrorism in the city.Among the incidents that took place in recent weeks were sniper fire at the Pisgat Ze'ev neighborhood, firebombs at Jewish homes in Abu-Tor, and numerous incidents of rock-throwing at light rail cars. On Sunday night, one of the more serious incidents took place, with Arab rioters trying to blow up a gas station in the northeastern neighborhood of French Hill. It was only by way of a miracle that a massive explosion was averted, say Jerusalem Councilman Aryeh King."Muslim terror is raising its head in French Hill," King told Arutz Sheva on Monday. "A huge disaster was averted yesterday towards midnight, when no fewer than 40 Arab terrorists broke in to the French Hill gas station and tried to set off the fuel stores.”Sunday's attack came on the background of the shooting of an Arab rioter in Jerusalem last week. The Arab was critically injured as police shot back at the rock-throwing Arab, and was pronounced dead at Hadassah Hospital over the weekend, sparking renewed rioting.Perhaps surprisingly, the Shabak report said, there was much more violence in Jerusalem during the course of Operation Protective Edge than there was in Judea and Samaria. Police have tried to contain rioting incidents and to avoid friction even as large numbers of officers using force entered neighborhoods where rioting was rampant, the report said.The incidents do not seem to be directed by an organized group, the report said, and in fact most of the incidents appear to be very spontaneous. Although the data would seem to indicate that a third intifada was brewing, the report said that this was not the case. So far, more than 600 Palestinians have been arrested on charges related to rioting, and 200 indictments handed down.Many of those arrests stemmed from incidents in which Arabs threw rocks at light rail trains. Some 90 such incidents have been reported since the beginning of July, with hundreds of incidents reported. Communications Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud) recently received an offer to be appointed as Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Channel 2 News reported.According to the report, the current ambassador, Ron Prosor, has indicated that he wishes to conclude his term earlier than expected, and the role was offered to Minister Erdan.This is not the first time that Erdan has been offered this role: Before Prosor’s appointment, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu had offered the role to Erdan, who had seriously considered accepting it but ultimately chose to turn it down.According to Channel 2, Erdan is once again seriously considering the offer and is being backed by Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman. Should Erdan accept the offer, however, the move would put Netanyahu in an awkward position when his party will become the second largest party in the Knesset with 18 seats, one fewer less than Yesh Atid, after Erdan resigns from the Knesset.The Likud and Liberman’s Yisrael Beytenu ran for the Knesset on a joint list, but Liberman announced in July that his faction was splitting off from Likud and will be independent from it.With that, the next MK in line to be appointed to the Knesset should Erdan resign would be Leon Litinetski, who is a member of Yisrael Beytenu. Netanyahu and the Likud were recently hurt when MK Carmel Shama-Hacohen, who joined the Knesset instead of Reuven Rivlin, resigned after a few weeks to become an Israeli ambassador in the OECD. Palestinian victims describe being used as shields by Hamas
Members of a Gaza family whose farm was turned into a "fortress" by Hamas fighters have reported that they were helpless to stop Hamas from using them as human shields. They described how for years Hamas has used their property and homes as shields for military installations from which to launch rockets into Israel, dig tunnels and store arms. According to the victims, those who tried to object were shot in the legs by Hamas.

Jewish Home party chairwoman MK Ayelet Shaked responded Monday morning to reports that the Egyptian government had offered the Palestinian Authority a state extending from Gaza through the Sinai Peninsula, and called on Prime Minister Netanyahu to take it seriously.Aiming a barb at the Israeli Left, she said the initiative proved how out of touch they were."If the report is indeed correct, the president of Egypt has managed to understand what the Left in Israel has refused to understand for decades."She asserted that the solution to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian "needs to be regional, and cannot fall solely on Israel's shoulders. I call on the prime minister to meet with the Egyptian president to examine the feasibility of the initiative."According to IDF Radio, Egyptian president General Abdel Fatah Sisi offered Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas to cede 160 square kilometers of the Sinai Peninsula adjoining Gaza to the PA, thus creating a Palestinian state five times the present size of Gaza. In return, the PA would stop demanding that Israel return to the 1967 borders.Sisi reportedly suggested that Palestinian "refugees" be allowed to settle in the new, much enlarged Gaza, which would be demilitarized.The Palestinian cities in Judea and Samaria would enjoy autonomy and be fully run by the PA, according to the plan, which would leave the PA with even more territory than it would have if Israel ceded all of Judea and Samaria. Minister of Communications Gilad Erdan (Likud) said an alleged proposal by Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to establish a Palestinian Arab state in Gaza and the Sinai Peninsula, was an example of the type of "innovative" solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict that has been sorely lacking until now.Speaking at an Institute for Counter-Terrorism conference in the Israeli coastal city of Herzliya, Erdan shared his thoughts on the current instability in the Middle East, and its impact on Israel's security. Among other things, he emphasized the dangers of territorial concessions."Every place where the State of Israel left was seized by terror(ists). Every place that we evacuated drew more terrorism against the State of Israel.""Territory still has strategic importance," he added, refuting voices on the Left who have repeatedly claimed Israel's security will still be fully guaranteed through technical military solutions if it cedes territory. Terror attacks in Jerusalem have grown exponentially over the past few months, a Shabak (Israel Security Service) report Monday said. According to the statistics, three terror attacks occurred in the city in March 2014. In April 7 terrorist attacks took place, while in May and June, there were already 22 attacks, In July and August, the Shabak reported that there were 152 attacks and incidents of terrorism in the city.Among the incidents that took place in recent weeks were sniper fire at the Pisgat Ze'ev neighborhood, firebombs at Jewish homes in Abu-Tor, and numerous incidents of rock-throwing at light rail cars. On Sunday night, one of the more serious incidents took place, with Arab rioters trying to blow up a gas station in the northeastern neighborhood of French Hill. It was only by way of a miracle that a massive explosion was averted, say Jerusalem Councilman Aryeh King."Muslim terror is raising its head in French Hill," King told Arutz Sheva on Monday. "A huge disaster was averted yesterday towards midnight, when no fewer than 40 Arab terrorists broke in to the French Hill gas station and tried to set off the fuel stores.”Sunday's attack came on the background of the shooting of an Arab rioter in Jerusalem last week. The Arab was critically injured as police shot back at the rock-throwing Arab, and was pronounced dead at Hadassah Hospital over the weekend, sparking renewed rioting.Perhaps surprisingly, the Shabak report said, there was much more violence in Jerusalem during the course of Operation Protective Edge than there was in Judea and Samaria. Police have tried to contain rioting incidents and to avoid friction even as large numbers of officers using force entered neighborhoods where rioting was rampant, the report said.The incidents do not seem to be directed by an organized group, the report said, and in fact most of the incidents appear to be very spontaneous. Although the data would seem to indicate that a third intifada was brewing, the report said that this was not the case. So far, more than 600 Palestinians have been arrested on charges related to rioting, and 200 indictments handed down.Many of those arrests stemmed from incidents in which Arabs threw rocks at light rail trains. Some 90 such incidents have been reported since the beginning of July, with hundreds of incidents reported. Over a third of the cars on the light rail have been damaged in these incidents.There were 90 rail injury incidents, including throwing Molotov cocktails and stones. More than a third of the trains were shut down because of this. Communications Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud) recently received an offer to be appointed as Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Channel 2 News reported.According to the report, the current ambassador, Ron Prosor, has indicated that he wishes to conclude his term earlier than expected, and the role was offered to Minister Erdan.This is not the first time that Erdan has been offered this role: Before Prosor’s appointment, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu had offered the role to Erdan, who had seriously considered accepting it but ultimately chose to turn it down.According to Channel 2, Erdan is once again seriously considering the offer and is being backed by Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman. Should Erdan accept the offer, however, the move would put Netanyahu in an awkward position when his party will become the second largest party in the Knesset with 18 seats, one fewer less than Yesh Atid, after Erdan resigns from the Knesset.The Likud and Liberman’s Yisrael Beytenu ran for the Knesset on a joint list, but Liberman announced in July that his faction was splitting off from Likud and will be independent from it.With that, the next MK in line to be appointed to the Knesset should Erdan resign would be Leon Litinetski, who is a member of Yisrael Beytenu. Netanyahu and the Likud were recently hurt when MK Carmel Shama-Hacohen, who joined the Knesset instead of Reuven Rivlin, resigned after a few weeks to become an Israeli ambassador in the OECD. Shama-Hacohen was replaced by Alex Miller, also a member of Yisrael Beytenu.
