Scientists rank top 10 U.S. quake states
Nov 20, 2006, 20:40 GMT

RENO, NV, United States (UPI) Seismologists at the Nevada Seismological Laboratory have ranked the United States most earthquake prone states and found Alaska is No. 1.Alaska is followed by California.

But beyond that point, depending on how you measure activity, the rankings change. The rankings, based on the magnitude of earthquakes that occurs once per year on average: Alaska, 6.70; California, 6.02; Nevada, 5.11; Hawaii, 5.00; Washington, 4.97; Wyoming, 4.67; Idaho, 4.57; Montana, 4.47; Utah, 4.29; and Oregon, 4.24.The reason for talking about this is ... to motivate people to build structures that resist earthquakes, said NSL Director John Anderson. If you`re on this Top 10 list, hopefully it will motivate you to be better prepared in the event of a large earthquake.Anderson and colleague Yuichiro Miyata analyzed the U.S. Geological Survey`s Advanced National Seismic System`s catalog of earthquakes, which contains data from 1898-2005. The researchers supplemented that with data from the USGS catalog of significant U.S. earthquakes from 1568-1989.The research appears in the November/December issue of the journal Seismological

45 dead, thousands homeless from heavy Sri Lanka seasonal rains
Mon Nov 20, 9:39 AM ET

COLOMBO (AFP) - At least 45 people have died from floods and mudslides caused by heavy seasonal rains in Sri Lanka that left 91,000 families temporarily homeless, the National Disaster Management Centre said. The number of people drowned in the past three weeks was at 30 while 15 were buried alive in mudslides, N.D. Hettiarachchi, director of the centre said. Most of the families have gone back to their homes, but heavy rains in the past two days affected another 8,300 families who had to abandon their homes and move to high ground, Hettiarachchi told AFP on Monday. He said the government spent half a million dollars to provide immediate relief to the affected people while about 2.7 million dollars would be needed to rebuild the flood-damaged homes in the central and northwest regions of the island.

The latest flooding is the worst natural disaster since the December 2004 tsunami that killed an estimated 31,000 people and displaced a million people along much of the island's coastlines.Sri Lanka depends on monsoon rains for farming as well as for power generation. However, the seasonal rains also cause property damage and loss of life in low-lying areas.

The two main monsoon seasons in Sri Lanka are from May to September and December to February and rains also lash different parts of the island between October and November and again between March and April.

Fears rise for flood-hit refugees in Kenya
Tuesday November 21, 2006,By Steve Bloomfield

NAIROBI - The United Nations refugee agency has begun airlifting emergency aid to thousands of refugees after severe flooding hit a camp in northeastern Kenya, sweeping away thousands of temporary shelters.Up to 80,000 people, mainly refugees fleeing Somalia, have been affected by the floods which have swept through the Dadaab camp over the past week.Torrential rain has washed away much of the road leading to Dadaab from the main town in the Garissa district in the northeast, leaving the camps completely isolated.UNHCR, the UN refugee agency, flew in fuel, health kits and tarpaulins. The sanitation situation has deteriorated raising the likelihood of an outbreak of water-borne diseases, such as diarrhoea, cholera or typhoid.Flights from Nairobi began to deliver 25,000 tarpaulins to provide shelter.

Fuel is needed for the camp's boreholes which provide clean water. UNHCR tried to deliver aid by road at the weekend but 4WD vehicles sank in the thick mud as the water levels continued to rise. The short rains season in Kenya, which tends to last for a few weeks in October and November, has brought severe flooding across many parts of the country, which caught many unawares.

Torrential rain followed a long period of severe drought, which meant much of Kenya's farmland and arid plains were unable to absorb much water. In Kenya's Coast region at least 12 people died and more than 60,000 were left homeless after floods hit suddenly.

More rain is forecast over the next fortnight. A dam in eastern Kenya is on the brink of bursting, according to the UN. The rains failed last year, leading to a drought which aid agencies claimed left up to 11 million people in the Horn of Africa on the brink of a food crisis.Dadaab, less than 100km from the Somali border, is home to three refugee camps.More than 160,000 refugees live there, many of whom have been there since fleeing the fighting in Somalia in 1991. Numbers have swelled in recent months following the fighting between warlords and the Islamic Courts in Mogadishu in June.Talk between the transitional Government in Somalia and the Islamic Courts have broken down and regional analysts claim the country is on the brink of war.Ethiopia has sent troops and arms to bolster the Government, while Eritrea has supplied weapons to the Islamic Courts. Some 30,000 refugees have crossed the border since June, putting already-stretched resources under even more pressure.Aid agencies working in Dadaab said the recent flooding has made the situation unbearable.

Mohammed Qazilbash, senior programme manager for refugee assistance for CARE in Kenya, said: What was supposed to be the short rainy season has turned into a widespread disaster affecting over 100,000 people. Food storage facilities have been flooded, latrines have collapsed and a significant number of shelters, including one wing of the hospital in Ifo camp, have crumbled.

Spreading danger

Dadaab, less than 100km from the Somali border, is home to three refugee camps. More than 160,000 refugees live there.

Up to 80,000 people, mainly Somali refugees, have been affected by the floods over the past week.In Kenya's Coast region at least 12 people have died and more than 60,000 have been left homeless after floods hit suddenly.A dam in eastern Kenya is on the brink of bursting.More rain is forecast over the next fortnight.- INDEPENDENT

Afghan flood death toll climbs to 120 Mon Nov 20, 12:16 PM ET

KABUL, Afghanistan Heavy rain again battered remote villages in western Afghanistan already devastated by flooding, as the death toll rose to 120, officials said Monday.Aid workers delivered several tons of food and aid to people in Badghis province, said Habibullah Murghabi, the head of a government-appointed disaster committee. The delivery had taken more than two days of travel by donkey and horse to reach flood-affected villages in the mountainous region.Murghabi said the death toll in Balamurghab and Ghormach districts had risen to 62, while 92 people were reported missing. The roads are still bad, and last night there was heavy rain again. It's still raining now, Murghabi said by telephone from Badghis.Heavy rain Thursday triggered flash floods that inundated several villages in Badghis. Some 50,000 families live in the inundated area.Other affected areas in the west include Farah province, where at least 18 people have died in recent days, said provincial police chief Gen. Sayed Aga Saqib. One village of eight houses had been washed away, he said.Floods also hit the southern province of Uruzgan over the weekend, killing 40 people and destroying hundreds of homes in four districts, said Qayum Qayumi, the governor's spokesman.

Israeli minister moots international force for Gaza
(AFP) 20 November 2006

JERUSALEM - An Israeli cabinet minister on Monday mooted the possibility of deploying a multinational force in the Gaza Strip to prevent persistent Palestinian rocket attacks on the Jewish state. For the moment there is no military solution to the Qassam (rocket) fire problem on Israel from the Gaza Strip and therefore the deployment of a multinational force needs to be considered, minister without portfolio Yitzhak Cohen, from the ultra-Orthodox Shas party, told public radio. This model has worked in Lebanon...We went to war this summer in Lebanon and an average of 180 Katyusha rockets were fired against our territory every day. That stopped only thanks to (UN) Resolution 1701, he added. The Security Council resolution ushered in an August 14 ceasefire ending the 34-day conflict between Israel and Shiite militia Hezbollah and saw the deployment of a multinational UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon.Palestinian militants on Monday fired seven rockets into Israel from the Gaza Strip, which caused no casualties or damage, a military source said.

Former EU leaders call for political leap in Europe
20.11.2006 By Honor Mahony (EU OBSERVER
)

Several former EU politicians have called for a leap on the European political scene to create enough impetus to see through institutional reform in the bloc by 2009.A joint declaration, published in Florence on Friday (17 November) urges member states to get back on the path to reform of the European institutions.Signed, amongst others, by Valery Giscard d'Estaing, the architect of the frozen EU constitution, ex-German foreign minister Joschka Fischer and the former presidents of Italy and Portugal, the text calls for a political leap by all the parties concerned so that the new process is concluded at the time of the new European parliament in spring 2009.Going into detail, it says that the whole of the first and second parts of the constitution dealing with the values and aims of the bloc as well as the fundamental rights of citizens should be kept and that the contentious parts of the third section detailing the policies of the EU should be clarified.

This could be done with an additional protocol, says the declaration. We cannot remain deaf and inward-looking when faced with the necessity of the revival of the European integration process, said current Italian president Giorgio Napolitano, according to French daily Le Monde.

Berlin-Paris axis

Talk about reviving the EU institutional reform process put off track by the rejection of the European constitution by French and Dutch voters last year has gone up a notch recently. This is mainly due to the twin prospect of the German EU presidency in the first half of next year as well as French elections in April with only a concerted effort by Berlin and Paris thought to be enough to get reform back at the top of the bloc's political agenda.Additional pressure has also come from the enlargement process as several politicians including EU commission president Jose Manuel Barroso have indicated that the EU cannot expand further without internal reform.Germany has made progress on the constitution calling for an ambitious text one of the main issues of its six-month stint at the helm of the EU. Now it is waiting to hear what Paris has to offer.

The likely centre-right contender for the French presidential elections, Nicolas Sarkozy, has suggested the constitution be pared down to a mini treaty – but this has sparked hostile reactions from several quarters, including Berlin. So far, the left has not been so clear. Segolene Royal, recently chosen to be the socialist presidential candidate, has simply indicated that voters need to be won over about the need for reform in Europe.Angelica Schwall-Dueren, an EU expert for the German social democrats in parliament, told Reuters We have to hope that the respective [French] candidates don't wed themselves to a position that would make agreement on a constitution difficult in the end. I am trying to make clear to our [Socialist] partners that it is important to leave the door open to possible solutions, she added with French socialists continuing to be strongly divided over the EU constitution. For its part, Germany is planning to have a concrete timetable on the constitution and institutional reform on the table by an EU leaders summit in June with a view to bringing the reform process to fruition in 2009.

Olmert: Kadima Changed the Face of the Political Arena
17:05 Nov 20, '06 / 29 Cheshvan 5767 (INN)

(IsraelNN.com) Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told members of the Kadima faction that the establishment of the party by Ariel Sharon changed the face of Israel’s political arena. I wish us the continued rule of the government for many years, Olmert told his colleagues.

NUCLEAR WEAPONS WILL BE USED.

ISAIAH 26:21
21 For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.(WW3,1/2 earths population die).

ISAIAH 13:6-13 KJV
6 Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
7 Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt:(FROM FRIGHT)
8 And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.
9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.

ISAIAH 24:17-23 KJV
17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
18 And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.
19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.
20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.
22 And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.
23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

2 TIMOTHY 3:1
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous (DANGEROUS) times shall come.

JOEL 2:20,30
20 But I will remove far off from you the northern army,(RUSSIA,MUSLIMS) and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.(SIBERIAN DESERT)
30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.(NUCLEAR BOMB)
31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.

ZECHARIAH 14:12-13
12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.
13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.

EZEKIEL 20:47
47 And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.

ZEPHANIAH 1:18
18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD'S wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.

MALACHI 4:1
1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.(Judgement)
35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.(Christians have new bodies, this is the people against Jerusalem during the 7 yr treaty)(Christians bodies are not being eaten by the birds).

MATTHEW 24:37-51
37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.(judgement)
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

American Fears Include Iranian Biological Weapon
21:07 Nov 20, '06 / 29 Cheshvan 5767

(IsraelNN.com) Among America’s fears concerning Iran is the possibility that Tehran possess biological weapons developed by N. Korea and Syria.American officials attending the Convention on Biological Weapons (CBW) told participants that this appears to be the case. John C. Rood stated that a country like Iran, which supports terrorism, is a primary concern regarding the development of non-conventional weaponry.

35 nations meet on denying Iran nuke aid By GEORGE JAHN, Associated Press Writer Mon Nov 20, 9:42 AM ET

VIENNA, Austria - Thirty-five nations tried to find common ground Monday in a fractious session focusing on what to do about Iran's requests to the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency for help on projects including building a plutonium-producing reactor. Diplomats accredited to the meeting a committee of the International Atomic Energy Agency representing its 35 board members said there was general agreement to deny Tehran's request for aid in finishing its Arak research reactor but lack of consensus about seven other projects.Adding to discord was a ruling by the U.N. organization the International Atomic Energy Agency that the reactor, as well the as seven other projects did not pose a proliferation threat.

All (Iranian) projects are in conformity with the relevant Security Council resolution and specifically these projects do not contribute to enrichment related or reprocessing activities in Iran, Anna Maria Cetto, an agency deputy director general, told an IAEA committee meeting reviewing technical aid requests from Iran and other countries. The closed meeting adjourned but resumed later in the day to give members time to reach a common position in informal discussions. The main council concern is Tehran's uranium enrichment program and Iran's defiance of a council demand that it freeze such activities. But the Arak heavy water reactor is also worrying because once it is completed sometime in the next decade it will produce plutonium. This, like highly enriched uranium, can be used for the fissile core of nuclear warheads through reprocessing.A Security Council resolution in July demanded Iran stop all enrichment-related activities, But it did not specifically mention Arak, saying only that Tehran had to stop all reprocessing activities as well.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Monday that Iran would be self-sufficient in nuclear fuel in 2007, days after he acknowledged his country was far from producing enough fuel to power a nuclear reactor. To reach that goal, Iran would need to dramatically accelerate its capacity for uranium enrichment.Iran will produce its required nuclear fuel next year, the president said during a visit to Iran's Broadcasting Co., according to the company's Web site.

Pressure by the U.S. and Israel aimed at violating the rights of the Iranian nation will not succeed, he added.Normally, the United States takes the lead in demanding tough action against Tehran for defying U.N. Security Council demands that it freeze uranium enrichment. But with council agreement on sanctions mired down because of Russian and Chinese efforts to block severe punishment, diplomats said the Americans have taken a back seat to France in calling for harsher penalties.A diplomat familiar with the U.S. stance said the Americans were not backing the French in the lead with demands that all eight Iranian projects be reviewed and possibly refused because of recognition that the board would agree to nothing more than denying Iran help with Arak.

But a European diplomat said the Americans along with Australia and Canada fully backed the French but preferred Paris be publicly linked to the more hard-line position at a time when Washington was exploring the possibility of direct contacts with Tehran. Others pointed to recent changes in the top echelons of the French government agencies dealing with Iran and proliferation threats, saying new, more hard-line leadership could explain why Paris was out front in seeking tougher action.Even nonaligned nations traditionally supportive of Iran were likely to approve some form of denying Iran help for Arak, but the other seven Iran projects are less controversial. One asks for help in developing nuclear capabilities for medical use. Another seeks legal aid for the Russian-built Bushehr reactor, which even the Americans have accepted as not posing a threat to nuclear proliferation. And the five others ask for assistance in administrative or safety aspects of nuclear power, according to a list made available to the AP.

With most nations backing approval of all other projects except Arak and the IAEA ruling it did not qualify as a proliferation threat France was likely to modify its position. Denying Iran help with Arak where it is seeking agency assistance to make sure the reactor is environmentally safe would do little to slow construction of that facility or affect Tehran's other potential avenue to weapons production uranium enrichment.

Still, it would send a signal in how harshly to penalize Tehran. Ali Ashgar Soltanieh, Iran's chief delegate to the IAEA, said his country's request would benefit the international community by increasing outside involvement in Arak. By adopting this project, the agency's presence .will be much more, he said.

Iran Slowly Securing Its Grip Around Israel
By Hana Levi Julian (INN)

A nuclear threat is only one of several Iranian problems facing Israel as the Islamic Republic increases its influence in Gaza and Lebanon. Bush says he would understand an Israeli attack on Iran. The Iranian government is sending money to Gaza, gradually extending its influence over the region surrounding Israel. The Islamic Republic has donated $120 million to the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority, according to an announcement last Thursday by PA Foreign Minister Mahmoud al-Zahar. The PA official met in Tehran with Ali Larijani, the head of national security in Iran. Palestinian Authority terrorists in Gaza have become major beneficiaries of Iranian largesse recently, according to the AFP news service. Iran has handed out, until now, over $120 million and says it will supply more aid. Its support is very important for us, said the PA foreign minister.

PA terrorists have significantly stepped up their Kassam rocket attacks against southern Israeli communities recently. Sderot residents have said the rockets are increasing in accuracy, and now contain more explosives as well as ball bearings to maximize damage upon impact.Meanwhile, international efforts to stop Iran’s nuclear development activities have slowly ground to a halt. Despite threats by the U.N. Security Council to impose sanctions against the Islamic Republic if it did not end its uranium enrichment program by the end of August, the program continues uninterrupted, and no action has been taken against Iran.U.S. President George W. Bush said Sunday night he would understand if Israel attacked the Islamic Republic, but that America would not help the Jewish State to do so.According to a report in Monday’s issue of New Yorker magazine, Israeli agents operating in Iran have been passing intelligence information to the White House. The report by Seymour Hersh claimed that the information states that Iran has already developed and tested the technology for a nuclear weapon. The news reinforces a concern expressed repeatedly by both the U.S. and Israel about repeated claims by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that the nuclear activities currently underway will be used for peaceful, domestic purposes only.Meanwhile, north of Israel, the Iranian-backed Hizbullah terror organization is ratcheting up its efforts to topple the Lebanese government.

Hizbullah terror chieftain Hassan Nasrallah told thousands of Lebanese supporters to prepare to take to the streets of Beirut in order to force the resignation of the government. He said the current Lebanese government is a puppet of the Bush administration. Six ministers of Hizbullah and its allies have quit the Lebanese Cabinet after failing to achieve an agreement for a new unity government.

Nasrallah's speech was apparently recorded on Saturday in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, an area repeatedly attacked by Israel during this summer's Second Lebanon War.Hizbullah touched off the July war with a cross-border attack in which terrorists kidnapped two IDF reservists on patrol and killed several soldiers. The next day, they began launching daily Katyusha rockets against northern Israeli communities.Thousands of Katyusha rockets rained down upon Nahariya, Haifa, Kiryat Shmona, Tzfat and other Galilee communities, prompting the evacuation of more than a third of the population in at least two cities, and more than half of the residents of Kiryat Shmonah.

Chlamydia strain may produce new diseases

OAKLAND, Calif., Nov. 20 (UPI) U.S. scientists say they have determined Chlamydia trachomatis is evolving at a rate faster than believed possible. Chlamydia trachomatis is a bacterium that is the leading cause of sexually transmitted diseases and the second leading cause of blindness worldwide.

The researchers at Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute in California say they are the first to find the bacterium is evolving through a process called recombination, in which genes from one or more strains combine to create new strains and, theoretically, new diseases. The study, led by Dr. Deborah Dean, suggests since Chlamydia trachomatis evolves through recombination, the traditional method of studying a single gene to track the transmission of the bacterium is wrong.

What we found is an organism that not only evolves rapidly but in ways that we thought were rare. We also discovered that this organism can customize its attack, said Dean. Consequently, the constant flux of the bacterium could serve as a gateway for new emerging diseases, but more research needs to be conducted to understand if and how this is happening. The study is featured in the November issue of the journal Genome Research.

12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

Israel’s False Partners for Peace

Since the Palestinian Authority elections last January, it seems Hamas has aroused some serious attention. Although the Palestinian Arabs have long been obligated by agreements with Israel to abolish terrorism and terrorist groups, Hamas, a democratically elected fanatical group, has come to power, and the question that has been on everyone’s mind is: what does this mean for Israel?

When elected, Hamas replaced Fatah, the leading party of the Palestinian Authority, as the majority in the PA’s governing body. Hamas and Fatah are political opponents, one religious and one secular. Members of the two groups hate and often kill each other. Hamas, an Arabic acronym for Islamic Resistance that, prophetically, means violence in Hebrew, is a strongly religious Islamist party whose goal is the destruction of Israel, and implementation of an Islamic Arab state in its place. The Hamas charter expresses this by stating, Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.

Fatah is a secular nationalist party, and the main party of the PLO, formed for the purpose of carrying out terrorist attacks against Israel. Yasser Arafat was the leading politician in Fatah, succeeded by Holocaust-denier Mahmoud Abbas, Arafat’s long-time ally and right-hand man. Unlike Hamas, Fatah is not a religious party, and stresses the importance of a nationalist Palestinian Arab state rather than a Muslim one.Fatah revolutionized Arab terrorism when it began hijacking planes in 1968. Fatah members instituted the now infamous terrorist tactic of hijacking passenger planes, a crime never before committed. Thus, Fatah first invented and propagated plane hijackings as a form of terrorism.

There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through jihad.—Hamas charter

Unlike its more candid pronouncements in Arabic, in English, Fatah has feigned a desire to make peace with Israel, and has called for a so-called two-state plan, which would actually be a three-state plan, as Jordan, created in 1946 out of 78% of the territory of the Palestine Mandate, is the Arab State in Palestine, and Israel is the Jewish State in Palestine. In Arabic, however, to non-Western ears, Fatah has explained that the so-called two-state plan is merely the first stage in a process of destroying Israel.

So, though Fatah seems diplomatic, or at least attempts to, in truth, its ultimate goal matches that of Hamas. Hamas does not try to hide it, and states clearly in its charter: There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through jihad. Initiatives, proposals, and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors.

However, in the end, what they say they want makes no difference, because actions speak louder than words, and blatant acts of terrorism prove that there is no chance for peace until Israel has a partner that wants it. Fatah was clearly not that partner; neither is Hamas. How so many Israelis, in order to sustain their hope for peace, continue to trust these terrorists and terrorist-supporters is a heartbreaking mystery. And so Israel continues the fight for peace, desperately hoping that someday someone else will too. For now, Hamas is what we’re dealing with, and it will not stop until it sees to the end of Israel. Or, more accurately, until Israel sees to the end of it.
