Merkel open to treaty changes to keep UK in EU-By EUOBSERVER
5. Jun, 09:51-German chancellor Merkel says the EU may need treaty changes to keep the UK in. "If that is really necessary then we have to consider it," she told the BBC. "We have always been able also to pursue a Europe at different speeds, to find opt-out solutions for example."

Today, 13:02-Russian leader Putin has told Italian daily Corriere dell Sera that "only an insane person and only in a dream can imagine that Russia would suddenly attack Nato" in an interview prior to his visit to Milan Expo. He urged Italy to put national interests first in its Russian relations.
Tsipras rejects creditors' offer By Eric Maurice-june 6,15-euobserver
BRUSSELS, Today, 00:16-Greek prime minister Alexis Tsipras rejected a proposal by the country's creditors for an agreement Friday afternoon (5 June), calling it "a bad negotiation trick".Tsipras was addressing the Greek parliament two days after European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker presented him a plan prepared by the EU, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to unblock a €7.2 billion loan in exchange of Greek structural reforms. The Greek PM, who wanted to rally his majority and force the opposition to support him or publicly back the creditors' plan, delivered a strident speech."I want to believe the proposal presented by [commission head] Jean-Claude Juncker was a slip up, a mistake," he said, adding that he had never imagined that the creditors would "believe a politician in Greece could vote for this proposal"."I hope it will be withdrawn," he added.Tsipras assured that "the Greek government cannot under any circumstances agree to any unreasonable proposals" and said the only "realistic proposal" to reach an agreement was his government's.The main blocking points remain the cuts in pensions required by the creditors as well as VAT rates and labour market reforms. The Greek PM added the issue of restructuring the Greek debt and called for a "comprehensive solution", something that creditors have not yet been ready to consider.Tsipras nevertheless ended his speech saying he was confident Greece and its creditors were "closer than ever to an agreement"."We are committed to finding a solution that puts an end to unrealistic surpluses and austerity, and makes the debt sustainable," he said.
Turkey elections: A worst case scenario By Andrew Rettman-euobserver
BRUSSELS, 5. Jun, 13:38-A big win for Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday (7 June) could spell “goodbye” to the EU accession process, or worse. The parliamentary vote is, on paper, not about Erdogan, who resigned from the ruling AKP party when he became president, a “neutral” figure in the Turkish constitution. But you wouldn’t know it from the campaign trail.Erdogan is speaking at AKP rally after rally, in which he recites the Koran and in which crowds chant “Allahu akbar” in return. His main message is that four more years of single party rule means stability. To the extent the EU is mentioned, it’s “negative”, Sinan Ulgen, an analyst with the Carnegie Europe think tank, told EUobserver from Ankara on Thursday.“ We’re seeing a return of anti-Western rhetoric, the idea that the West is plotting to oust his government”.The rhetoric includes attacks on gay people and the Armenian minority. But it’s neither the Koran nor the populism which is causing alarm in EU capitals. If the AKP wins 330 seats in the Grand National Assembly, Erdogan can call a referendum on transferring power from parliament to the presidential palace. If it wins 367, he can change the constitution without a plebiscite. If the Kurdish opposition party, the HDP, fails to enter parliament, it will alienate the Kurdish minority. It will also alienate Turkish liberals, a constituency which, in 2013, held mass anti-Erdogan protests in Gezi Park in Istanbul, and which has rallied round the HDP’s progressive leader, Selahattin Demirtas. If people think the election's rigged, it could prompt unrest.
Goodbye?
Ulgen said a big AKP win means, at best, that Erdogan will focus on internal politics and constitutional change instead of EU relations. But Marc Perini, a former EU ambassador to Turkey who also works for Carnegie, warned that Erdogan’s project, to create a presidential republic, will take him further down the path of authoritarianism.“It will mean a different Turkey: fewer civil liberties: further restriction of judicial independence; restriction of free speech; dissent will be called treason. This is the trend", he said.“I fail to see how an Erdogan presidential republic could be EU-compatible … It’s saying a firm goodbye to reform and to the EU accession process”.Alon Ben-Meir, a Middle East specialist at New York University (NYU), who knows Erdogan in person, added: “He cannot be described as a democrat, in fact the precise opposite. Nor a European, and certainly not a true Western ally”.
Gezi 2.0?
For his part, an EU diplomat, who is based in Ankara, also warned of election fraud. He said the narrow margins in polls and the high stakes - coalition rule would stymie Erdogan’s ambitions - pose the question: “Is it realistic he won’t use his full control of the state apparatus to get the right result?”.The ODIHR, a European election-monitoring body, has 29 observers in Turkey, a country of 75 million people. Its spokesman, Thomas Rymer, told EUobserver “if there are credible allegations [of fraud] … we will mention them in our assessment”.But the EU diplomat said the small size of Rymer’s mission is a “trap”.“It can’t really monitor what happens, so it’s likely to endorse the official result”, he said.“The ODIHR assessment is the most important one for the EU. We always hide behind it and we parrot what it says word for word. But what will the opposition do if it believes the vote is fixed?”.He noted there's already violence in the run-up to Sunday, for the most part, by pro-AKP nationalists against the Kurdish HDP.“If there are large post-election protests, Erdogan will probably use force to stop them, as he did in Gezi. It’s hard to imagine what direction things could go in”, the diplomat said.
Better scenarios
The worst scenario is not the most likely.Erdogan’s popularity has, over the past two years, waned due to corruption allegations. His crackdown on judges and free media has, Perini said, also created “discomfort” in Turkish society and spooked foreign capital, prompting a downturn.Ben-Meir noted: “The AKP has been losing ground not only because of the slowing economy but also because of the heavy-handed manner in the way Erdogan is governing”.“The problems in Turkey are finally catching up with him”.Ulgen added that coalition rule, or AKP single party rule but with real opposition in parliament, would make Erdogan more EU-friendly.He also said it would give prime minister Ahmet Davutoglu, who is more moderate, a chance to assert his role.
Blame game
Turkey's EU accession is, in any case, on hold for various reasons: Erdogan misrule; the Cyprus conflict; and EU concern on its ability to absorb such a big country.Perini predicted the EU will, in the coming years, focus on micro-projects, such as Customs Union and visa facilitation, instead. He said the EU should take some blame for the rift.He noted that, between 2007 and 2010, when Erdogan was more pro-EU, member states blocked accession progress, with leaders saying: “We can’t incorporate Turkey”.“The issue was never about incorporation, it was about shaping Turkish democracy, and we missed an opportunity”.The Ankara-based EU diplomat said Erdogan is the main culprit.“Turkey won’t enter the EU any time soon. But he could still press ahead with reform. He could Europeanise the country and make it ready for membership. He could put the ball in our court and say: ‘Look we’ve done all you asked’.”“That’s not happening here. He has a very different agenda”, the diplomat said. The NYU’s Ben-Meir went further. He said it's not the case the EU didn't deliver on accession, but that Erdogan perverted the process. He said the Turkish leader used EU demands for separation of powers to dismantle the main check on AKP rule, Turkey’s secularist military establishment. He moved ahead on EU single market reforms, while neglecting chapters on rule of law.It attracted foreign money, boosting his popularity, but the economic boom was decoupled from political change.“This is exactly what he wanted to do all along and he used EU membership talks as an excuse to justify his actions”, Ben-Meir said.

06/ 5/2015-vatican insider-Francis’ eleven-hour visit to the “Jerusalem of Europe”-On Friday 6 June, Francis sets off for Sarajevo to help “consolidate fraternity, peace, interreligious dialogue and friendship”-andrea tornielli
sarajevo-Eleven hours in the “Jerusalem of Europe”, the city where the spark was lit for the start of World War I and more recently, the theatre of a horrific fratricidal conflict that is sadly famous for the snipers who shot at everything and anything that moved, from their posts in the surrounding hills, as well as for the ethnic rapes. Eleven hours in a country that is undergoing an Islamization and where Wahhabism is on the rise. Eleven hours to meet with political leaders, Catholics, people of different religions and young people; and to try to heal the still bloody wounds with an invitation to people to forgive and to live peacefully side by side.Francis will depart Sarajevo tomorrow morning (6 June), on another one of his flash visits within wounded Europe. Sarajevo is the capital of two territories, the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Serbian Republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina. The visit was announced during the Angelus prayer on 1 February this year and the Pope asked people to pray that his trip would be “one of encouragement for the Catholic faithful, fosters seeds of good and contributes to the consolidation of fraternity, peace, interreligious dialogue and friendship”. And this part of the world really is in need of peace, dialogue and fraternity twenty years after a bloody civil war between different nationalities: Croatians, Bosnian Muslims and Serbians which ended with the intervention of the UN and NATO.“After the harsh and bloody war, this country suffered deep wounds that have still not healed,” says the Archbishop of Sarajevo, Cardinal Vinko Puljić. “Even though the war has ended, the country lacks a rule of law that can adequately defend all personal, religious and ethnic identities. The great powers which imposed the Dayton Accords, have left local politicians in charge of building the country’s future; but they are merely observers. This can never lead to a lasting, fair and prosperous peace.”The Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin recently explained that the consequences of the war “have been felt, particularly by the Catholic community which has practically halved since the early 90s: from 800,000 Catholics are now down to 400,000. In some parishes there are just a few families left, most of them elderly. Today most young people emigrate due to a lack of jobs and better prospects in other environments.”One of the phenomena witnessed in recent years is the difficulty in building churche sfor Christians, while Muslim places of worship are financed with “Saudi petrodollars”, Archbishop Puljić reiterates. Nevertheless, there are still signs of hope. For example, the fact that everyone is awaiting the Pope’s visit and even Muslim leaders see Francis as a “brother, a messenger of peace”, showing particular appreciation for his message in favour of the poor.Francis’ visit to Bosnia-Herzegovina is the third visit by a Pope to the country in 18 years. John Paul II visited in April 1997 after he had had to cancel his trip to Sarajevo in September three years before, because Serbians had warned that they were not in a position to be able to guarantee the Pope’s safety. The day before Wojtyla arrived, explosives were found underneath a bridge which the papal procession was due to cross. John Paul II was advised not to follow the scheduled route but he would not hear any of it. From Sarajevo, he cried out: “No more war!, reminding the world that “God forgives only those who have the courage to forgive”.
Pope in Sarajevo, urges lasting ethnic and religious peace-Reuters By Philip Pullella and Daria Sito-Sucic-JUNE 6,15-YAHOONEWS
SARAJEVO (Reuters) - Pope Francis urged Bosnians on Saturday to seek lasting ethnic and religious harmony to heal the deep, lingering wounds of the 1992-1995 war that devastated the former Yugoslav republic."The cry of God's people goes up once again from this city, the cry of all men and women of good will: war never again," he said at a Mass for some 65,000 people at the stadium of the city that was once a symbol of ethnic and religious diversity in socialist Yugoslavia. This unwound in the war and Bosnia remains hamstrung by its legacy, divided along ethnic and religious lines.Francis listed the sufferings endured by Bosnians, mentioning refugee camps, destroyed houses and factories, and shattered lives."You know this well, having experienced it here: how much suffering, how much destruction, how much pain!" he said, raising his voice as he read his homily in Italian. He issued another criticism of the weapons industry, condemning "those who speculate on wars for the purpose of selling arms".Later, the pope became emotional at a meeting in Sarajevo cathedral, where he heard personal stories of torture, including one by a nun who was kidnapped in 1993 by Arab foreign fighters who came to Bosnia to fight alongside the country's Muslims. Her voice broke as she told how her captors threatened to kill her unless a priest in the same room trampled a rosary. He refused and both were beaten."This is the memory of your people. A people without memory has no future," he told the priests and nuns in spontaneous remarks, putting aside his prepared address."Don't forget your history but not in order to get revenge but to make peace."One priest recounted how a Muslim woman secretly sent him food while he was in a detention camp."That Muslim woman believed in God and felt she had to do good," he said.Earlier at a meeting with the three-member Bosnian presidency, Francis said peace initiatives between Bosnia's Croats, Serbs and Bosniaks showed that "even the deepest wounds can be healed by purifying memories and firmly anchoring hopes in the future."Catholics, the vast majority ethnic Croats, account for about 15 percent of Bosnia’s 3.8 million people. They share power with Muslim Bosniaks and Orthodox Serbs in an unwieldy system of ethnic quotas laid down by a U.S.-brokered peace deal in 1995 and plagued by nationalist politicking.Francis arrived in the city whose skyline is dotted by mosques and churches days after the entry into force of a landmark EU agreement on closer ties with Bosnia, part of a new Western initiative to encourage political and economic change.(Additional reporting by Daria Sito-Sucic; Writing by Philip Pullella and Matt Robinson; editing by Ralph Boulton and William Hardy)

06/ 6/2015-vatican insider-Francis: There is an “atmosphere of war” in the world, we need real peace-builders-SARAJEVO- The Pope celebrates mass at the city stadium-During the mass at Sarajevo’s Olympic Stadium, the Pope warned that “those who want conflict between different cultures and societies, and those who speculate on wars for the purpose of selling arms” foment this atmosphere. The world does not need people who talk about peace but those who actually set to building it. “Peace is God’s dream, his plan for humanity”, “which always meets opposition from men and from the evil one”-ANDREA TORNIELLI
Sarajevo-“In the context of global communications” today, “we sense an atmosphere of war.” Those who want “conflict between different cultures and societies, and those who speculate on wars for the purpose of selling arms,” seek to “foment this atmosphere”. What we need is “peacemakers”, “that is, those who make peace”, not those who just talk about it.At Koševo stadium in Sarajevo, which hosted the opening and closing ceremonies for the 1984 Winter Olympics, Pope Francis was welcomed by a huge crowd, meeting Catholics in the same place where John Paul II was welcomed in April 1997. Back then, it was cold and snowing; today, however, the over 50,000 faithful present sat under a scorching sun. A section of the stadium was reserved for those mutilated and wounded in the civil war which crushed the city’s inhabitants in the 1990’s. Arriving at the stadium, the improvised cemeteries created during the last conflict and filled with hundreds of Christian and Muslim graves, are in plain sight. The Pope pronounced the homily in Italian, and interpreted into Croatian. “The word peace echoes several times through the Scripture readings.” “Peace is God’s dream, his plan for humanity, for history, for all creation. And it is a plan which always meets opposition from men and from the evil one,” the Pope added. “Even in our time, the desire for peace and the commitment to build peace collide against the reality of many armed conflicts presently affecting our world. They are a kind of third world war being fought piecemeal and, in the context of global communications, we sense an atmosphere of war.”“Some wish to incite and foment this atmosphere deliberately, mainly those who want conflict between different cultures and societies, and those who speculate on wars for the purpose of selling arms. But war means children, women and the elderly in refugee camps; it means forced displacement of peoples; it means destroyed houses, streets and factories; it means, above all, countless shattered lives. You know this well, having experienced it here: how much suffering, how much destruction, how much pain! Today, dear brothers and sisters, the cry of God’s people goes up once again from this city, the cry of all men and women of good will: war never again!”“Within this atmosphere of war,” Francis continued, “like a ray of sunshine piercing the clouds, resound the words of Jesus in the Gospel: “Blessed are the peacemakers”. Francis pointed out that Jesus did not say “Blessed are the preachers of peace”, “since all are capable of proclaiming peace, even in a hypocritical, or indeed duplicitous, manner,” instead he said: “Blessed are the peacemakers”, “that is, those who make peace.”“Crafting peace is a skilled work,” the Pope stressed. “It requires passion, patience, experience and tenacity. Blessed are those who sow peace by their daily actions, their attitudes and acts of kindness, of fraternity, of dialogue, of mercy...” “Peacemaking is a work to be carried forward each day, step-by-step, without ever growing tired.”“So how does one do this, how do we build peace?” Francis then asked. He found his answer in the Prophet Isaiah, who reminds us that “the effect of righteousness will be peace”. Opus justitiae pax (“the work of justice is peace”, Ed.), from the Vulgate version of Scripture, has become a famous motto, even adopted prophetically by Pope Pius XII. Peace is a work of justice. Here too,” Francis added, “not a justice proclaimed, imagined, planned... but rather a justice put into practice, lived out. The Gospel teaches us that the ultimate fulfilment of justice is love: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself”.“When, by the grace of God, we truly follow this commandment, how things change! Because we ourselves change! Those whom I looked upon as my enemy really have the same face as I do, the same heart, the same soul. We have the same Father in heaven. True justice, then, is doing to others what I would want them to do to me, to my people.”But the Pope also urged us “not to fool ourselves into thinking that this all depends on us”. “We would fall into an illusive moralizing. Peace is a gift from God, not in the magical sense, but because with his Spirit he can imprint these attitudes in our hearts and in our flesh, and can make us true instruments of his peace.”
06/ 6/2015 - vatican insider-“We must oppose the barbarity of violence and guarantee equality among citizens”-Francis with Mladen Ivanić in Sarajevo-In his first address to authorities in Sarajevo, Pope Francis called on them to go beyond the Dayton Accords and asked for real religious freedom in Bosnia-Herzegovina. On the outbound flight he reminded journalists that “the country has suffered a great deal and is now on a beautiful path of peace”-ANDREA TORNIELLI
Sarajevo-“In order to successfully oppose the barbarity of those who would make of every difference the occasion and pretext for further unspeakable violence, we need to recognize the fundamental values of human communities.” Pope Francis’ flash visit to Sarajevo began with an appeal for peace and the recognition of the foundations of peaceful co-existence and also with the Pope’s request to political authorities to strive for religious freedom to ensure that “all citizens” are “equal both before the law and its implementation, whatever their ethnic, religious or geographical affiliation.” He asked for further steps to be taken to reinforce “mutual trust” between all components of the nation.Francis arrived at Sarajevo airport at 9 am. During the civil war, the Bosnian capital was the only corridor for humanitarian aid. He was welcomed by the Croatian member of the country’s Presidency, Dragan Čović. The first item on the agenda was a courtesy visit to the Presidency of Bosnia-Herzegovina, whose chairman is currently the Serbian Mladen Ivanić. The Pope arrived having crossed the Sniper Alley: many of the surrounding buildings still bear the signs of the bullets fired, in memory of what happened.Francis pronounced the first speech of today’s visit in the Presidential Palace hall. Addressing political authorities, he asked them to work towards ensuring effective religious freedom in the country, in tune with the message sent out by local bishops. After mentioning last century’s bloody conflicts, the Pope recalled the significance of Bosnia-Herzegovina in the context of European history, with the presence of a rich variety of ethnicities, “without these differences having impeded for any length of time the establishment of mutually fraternal and cordial relationships”. Francis talked about the synagogues, churches and mosques located in close proximity to one another, which form part of the city’s urban fabric. Sarajevo represents “a crossroads of cultures, nations and religions, a status which requires the building of new bridges, while maintaining and restoring older ones”.The Pope’s visit comes 18 years after John Paul II’s “historic” visit shortly after the signing of the Dayton peace agreements. “I am happy to see the progress which has been made…However, we should not become complacent with what has been achieved so far, but rather seek to make further efforts towards reinforcing trust and creating opportunities for growth in mutual knowledge and respect.” “In order to favour this path, the solidarity and collaboration of the International Community is fundamental, in particular that of the European Union and of all Countries and Organizations operating in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”“Bosnia and Herzegovina is indeed an integral part of Europe, the successes and tragic experiences of the former are integrated fully into the latter’s history of successes and tragedies. They constitute, too, a clear call to pursue every avenue of peace, in order that processes already underway can be yet more resilient and binding.” What is needed, are “original and effective solutions to problems”, “the deepest wounds” must be “healed”, in a process that “purify[ies] memories”. “In order to successfully oppose the barbarity of those who would make of every difference the occasion and pretext for further unspeakable violence,” the Pope added, “we need to recognize the fundamental values of human communities, values in the name of which we can and must cooperate, build and dialogue, pardon and grow; this will allow different voices to unite in creating a melody of sublime nobility and beauty, instead of the fanatical cries of hatred.”Politicians are called to safeguard the fundamental rights of the human person. “In order for this to come about,” Francis explained, “it is vital that all citizens be equal both before the law and its implementation, whatever their ethnic, religious or geographical affiliation. All alike will then feel truly involved in public life. Enjoying the same rights, they will be able to make their specific contribution to the common good.”Greeting journalists briefly on the flight to Bosnia, the Pope recalled that Sarajevo is called the “Jerusalem of the West”, a place where “religious and ethnic cultures that are very different among them” co-exist, a place that “has suffered a great deal throughout history and is now on a beautiful path of peace”.
06/ 6/2015-vatican insider-Francis: Sarajevo, from a symbol of war to a place of unity between faiths-Sarajevo - The Pope attends today's interreligious meeting-During Pope Francis’ meeting with representatives of other religions, the imam spoke about the “genocide” of Muslims during the war, the Orthodox representative expressed “shame” about Christians who kill-Iacopo Scaramuzzi
Rome-Sarajevo, “which in the recent past sadly became a symbol of war and destruction, today, with its variety of peoples, cultures and religions, can become again a sign of unity, a place in which diversity does not represent a threat but rather a resource, an opportunity to grow together.” Francis pronounced these words in his address to representatives of other faiths – Orthodoxy, Islam and Judaism – whom he met during the course of his visit to the capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina. None of those who spoke hid the difficulties that culminated in the war which turned the country into a bloodbath between 1992 and 1995. Francis listened attentively to all of these testimonies and concluded the meeting with a prayer that is common to all religions.“Today’s meeting,” said the Pope who spoke in Italian, with simultaneous interpretater translating in real time, “is a sign of our shared desire for fraternity and peace; it is a testimony to the friendship and cooperation that has been developing over the years and which you already experience daily. To be present here today is already a “message” of that dialogue which everyone seeks and strives for.”Francis recalled that the local Council for Interreligious Dialogue was born after “the war, in response to the need for reconciliation and rebuilding a society torn apart by conflict”. “Interreligious dialogue,” the Pope underlined, “before being a discussion of the main themes of faith, is a “conversation about human existence” and cannot be limited merely to the few, to leaders of religious communities, but must also extend as far as possible to all believers, engaging the different sectors of civil society. Particular attention must be paid to young men and women who are called to build the future of this country,” Francis said. He pointed out that in order for dialogue “to be authentic and effective, it presupposes a solid identity: without an established identity, dialogue is of no use or even harmful.”“We are all aware that there is a long way yet to go,” the Pope said. “Let us not be discouraged, however, by the difficulties, but rather continue with perseverance along the way of forgiveness and reconciliation. While we seek to recall the past with honesty, thereby learning the lessons of history, we must also avoid lamentation and recrimination, letting ourselves instead be purified by God who gives us the present and the future: he is our future, he is the ultimate source of peace.” “This city, which in the recent past sadly became a symbol of war and destruction,” Francis continued, “today, with its variety of peoples, cultures and religions, can become again a sign of unity, a place in which diversity does not represent a threat but rather a resource, an opportunity to grow together. In a world unfortunately rent by conflicts, this land can become a message: attesting that it is possible to live together side by side, in diversity but rooted in a common humanity, building together a future of peace and brotherhood.”The Pope concluded by inviting the approximately 300 people present – who stood up – to join together in reciting a prayer to God, to the “Almighty and eternal God, good and merciful Father”, “God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob, King and Lord of the past, of the present and of the future; sole judge of every man and woman”. Francis prayed “for this country, Bosnia and Herzegovina, that men and women, followers of different religions, nations and cultures-may live here in peace and harmony”.The Cardinal of Sarajevo, Vinko Pulic, introduced the ecumenical and interreligious meeting in the international Franciscan student centre. The cardinal assured the Churc’s commitment to a necessary dialogue in a context in which “many wounds still need to be healed before trust can be restored”.Bosnia-Herzegovina’s religious and cultural traditions “are part of one European heritage that is nevertheless a tormented heritage,” the Muslim representative Husein Kavazovic said. “All ambiguities and controversies surrounding Europe’s identity reflects directly on Bosnia-Herzegovina. The Bosnian Muslim genocide forces us to re-examine our faith and mission,” meanwhile, it seems that for faithful, it has become more important to back respective political, military and economic blocs, instead of testifying the Truth and helping people, not with power but with love and comfort.” The Orthodox bishop, Vladika Grigorjie, stated: “Twenty years ago, thanks be to God, we came out of the last war (but even previous wars did not spare us, leaving behind deep wounds that have not yet healed) and we still speak about it as though it ended yesterday. This is understandable because wars bring adversity, murders and acts of cruelty against the smallest and the innocent, always; all parties in a conflict have assassins and victims. But as children of God’s Church, we especially should be concerned and full of shame about the fact that, here in our country, Christians have killed Christians as well as non- Christians; as a result, graves, grottoes, churches and crumbling monasteries have filled this country since the end of the Second World War..” The president of the Jewish community, Jakob Finci said: “We do not wish to lie to you because we are not politicians, telling you that things are all rosy here and that there are no problems. There are problems, but we are trying to resolve these together, in the awareness that survival in this wonderful corner of the earth, which God has given us to use, is only possible if we work together.”

South Korea MERS virus cases reach 50 people-AFP-JUNE 6,15-YAHOONEWS
Seoul (AFP) - South Korea on Saturday confirmed nine more cases of the MERS virus, which has killed four people, but said it did not represent a spread of the outbreak as the infected were already in quarantine. The additional cases brought the total number of people infected with the virus to 50.The new cases were part of a group of 1,660 quarantined after they came into contact with people infected with the disease prior to the first case being diagnosed on May 20, the health ministry said."The nine people contracted the virus (in three different) hospitals and there is no evidence to suggest any transmissions in communities outside hospital settings," it said in a press statement.Kwon Joon-Wook, a senior ministry official, told reporters Saturday that the 68-year-old man who was the first case, and his wife who contracted the virus from him, have both been cured and were released from hospital on Friday. Two others were also waiting to be released, he said.Four people have died since the 68-year-old man was diagnosed on May 20 after a trip to Saudi Arabia.Consequently, more than 1,660 people who may have been exposed to the virus have been placed under varying levels of quarantine. The outbreak has forced hundreds of schools to shut their gates, thousands of people to cancel travel plans and dealt a blow to many businesses as people were told to avoid large crowds. The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday it would send a team of experts to South Korea for a joint mission with the government in collecting information of the outbreak. The team will arrive here early next week, an official of the ministry said. The WHO has said it expects more infections in South Korea, while stressing there was currently "no evidence of sustained transmission in the community".The virus has been sequenced in a lab and results show little genetic change from the stain of the disease detected in the Middle East, Kown said Saturday, allaying fears that the virus could mutate and present new challenges for disease control."There have been no mutations in the virus," he said.President Park Geun-Hye saw her approval ratings sink by six percentage points to 34 percent over the past week, apparently because of her government's failure to quickly quarantine infected people.Donning the khaki-coloured uniform of the government's quick response team, Park on Friday visited a national hospital in Seoul where infected people are isolated and called for the public to put trust in her government's "all-out" efforts to fight the outbreak."Our response to the outbreak was made in accordance with the existing manual, but there were shortcomings in the initial response," she was quoted as saying by Yonhap news agency."The government is making its all-out efforts to prevent the spread of the virus and I hope the people place trust in it".

THE FIRST JUDGEMENT OF THE EARTH STARTED WITH WATER-IT ONLY MAKES SENSE THE LAST GENERATION WILL BE HAVING FLOODING
GENESIS 7:6-12
6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.
7 And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.
8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.
10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
GOD PROMISED BY A RAINBOW-THE EARTH WOULD NEVER BE DESTROYED TOTALLY WITH A FLOOD AGAIN.BUT FLOODIING IS A SIGN OF JUDGEMENT.
Sinkhole swallows police vehicle in Colorado-Reuters-June 5, 2015 12:49 PM-YAHOONEWS
(Reuters) - A sinkhole on a street just south of Denver swallowed a police SUV on Friday, sending it 10 feet down into the hole and forcing the sergeant inside to climb onto the roof to clamber out of the pit, the local police chief said. The sinkhole in a commercial section of Sheridan, Colorado, near a shopping mall appears to have formed after a heavy amount of rainwater leaked from an underground pipeline, said Sheridan Police Chief Mark Campbell. The water eroded the asphalt on a section of road and the dirt underneath, and when the SUV drove onto that patch the ground collapsed underneath it, Campbell said. The sergeant found himself between 10 and 15 feet down a hole with water at its base, and the sides of the sinkhole were too close to the vehicle for him to open the door, Campbell said. The sergeant had to climb out a window onto the roof to get out and emerged with minor injuries from the mishap. The sergeant, Greg Miller, told local television station KUSA he was glad it happened to him and not a civilian."I hear the rushing water, and all I see is a dirt wall in front of me," Miller told the station.Campbell said the sergeant could have drowned from the water in the hole had he been in a smaller vehicle.A crew using a construction excavator was working to pull the SUV from the sinkhole and police will assess the damage to the vehicle. The sinkhole was still deepening, descending another 4 feet since police arrived at the scene, Campbell said.(Reporting by Alex Dobuzinskis in Los Angeles; Editing by Cynthia Johnston)

Several homes damaged as tornadoes hit Colorado-Reuters By Keith Coffman-June 5, 2015 2:05 AM-YAHOONEWS
DENVER (Reuters) - Tornadoes and hail-producing thunderstorms struck the greater Denver area on Thursday, damaging several homes in two counties in the northern part of Colorado, though no injuries were reported, emergency officials said.A storm packing hail and heavy rain produced a tornado in Elbert County that damaged at least five houses and tore down farm fences near the town of Silma, southeast of Denver, the county's emergency management officials said.Images of the damage posted by emergency crews showed roof shingles ripped off a home, a smashed window, and debris scattered next to what appeared to be a flipped camper."Please be careful for livestock on the roads due to broken fences," Elbert County Emergency Management said on its Twitter feed, adding no injuries were reported.A tornado also struck around the town of Berthoud, about 40 miles north of Denver, destroying at least three homes and damaging 12 more, prompting officials in Larimer County to warn of flash floods through the evening. Hundreds of power outages were also reported in the area. The Northern Colorado Red Cross opened an evacuation center in Berthoud. The National Weather Service issued a "flash flood emergency" for Boulder and Larimer Counties, two areas that were hit by severe floods in 2013, and officials warned residents to stay off roads."This is an extremely dangerous and life threatening situation," the National Weather Service said, advising residents not to travel in Boulder and Larimer Counties. "Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams."Traffic lights failed in the city of Longmont, which activated an Emergency Operations Center as a precaution.(Reporting by Keith Coffman in Denver, Colorado; Writing and additional reporting by Eric M.
Putin says 'insane' to imagine Russia attack on Nato-By EUOBSERVER-june 6,15
FALSE POPE FROM THE VATICAN
ISAIAH 23:15-17
