Palestinian victims describe being used as shields by Hamas
Members of a Gaza family whose farm was turned into a "fortress" by Hamas fighters have reported that they were helpless to stop Hamas from using them as human shields. They described how for years Hamas has used their property and homes as shields for military installations from which to launch rockets into Israel, dig tunnels and store arms. According to the victims, those who tried to object were shot in the legs by Hamas.

Ottawa (AFP) - Canada's top diplomat on Tuesday called for a UN investigation of the discoveries of weapons caches at schools it operates in the Gaza Strip."I was appalled to hear reports, one as recent as today, of stockpiles of rockets in a school run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency in Gaza," Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said."Even more alarming were reports that in the first case, officials with the United Nations returned these weapons to Hamas (which Canada lists as a terrorist organization), once Israeli officials discovered their location," he said. Baird did not specify the source of these allegations.Baird went on to say, "Canada unequivocally calls on the United Nations to launch an immediate independent investigation to determine the facts surrounding these reports. There's a segment of the Canadian population that thinks the Harper government's devout support for Israel is not the right approach in the ongoing conflict between the Jewish state and the Palestinians.
These people — who often argue that Israel is the aggressor — have made their opinions clear via petitions, on message boards, social media and even community rallies.According to the Western Star newspaper, a Newfoundland resident has taken it a step further.The Star reports that Andrew Abbass has filed a complaint with police claiming that Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird were advocating for genocide.He's posted his allegations on the Change.org petition website:Sections 318, 319, and 320 of the Criminal Code of Canada forbid hate propaganda. "Hate propaganda" means "any writing, sign or visible representation that advocates or promotes genocide or the communication of which by any person would constitute an offence under section 319."Section 318 prescribes imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years for anyone who advocates genocide. The Code defines genocide as the destruction of an "identifiable group." The Code defines an "identifiable group" as "any section of the public distinguished by colour, race, religion, ethnic origin or sexual orientation."By choosing to side with one religious state (Israel) and declaring Hamas to be terrorists that need to be destroyed at the expense of civilian lives, Stephen Harper is advocating the destruction of an identifiable group and therefore should be charged with creating and disseminating hate propaganda under the Criminal Code and imprisoned alongside John Baird. According to the Western Star, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s Corner Brook headquarters have forwarded the complaint to the RCMP as they are required to do.The Prime Minister's Office didn't immediately respond to an email asking about the complaint.Both Harper and Baird have positioned themselves among the world's most staunch supporters of the Israeli regime in their very divisive conflict with Palestine.In January, Harper became the first-ever Canadian prime minister to address the Knesset, the Israeli Parliament, speaking of the bond between the two countries and explaining his unflinching support for the Jewish state.Innocent civilians living in Gaza deserve far better than the reckless actions of this terrorist organization.

Pro-Palestine rally organizers are apologizing for the violence seen last Friday at Calgary's City Hall.
Hundreds attended the protest to call for a ceasefire and condemn the current attacks in Gaza but it turned ugly when Israel supporters came to stage a protest of their own."We completely denounce that and want to make sure our message goes out to the people who were hurt in that that we apologize," said Siama Jamal with Justice for Palestinians.The Calgary Jewish Federation (CJF) say the violent outbursts were assaults, and today condemned the violence."It was a very scary and disgusting scene," said CJF member Judy Shapiro, who was at the rally as an observer. "Nobody on the streets of Calgary should be beat up for their opinions."While she was not involved in the altercation, she says one young man has a concussion, a young woman was punched in the face and another young man has a broken nose.She said they were there because they feel strongly about supporting Israel — even though emotions are running high from the latest conflict in Gaza.Shapiro says it is also about freedom of speech."It goes two ways. Everybody has that right," she said.
'Communication drop' around policing rally
Jamal hopes the clash with Israeli protesters won't take away from the rally's message. She would like to see the Canadian government do more to stop the deaths of Palestinian people."I want to focus on the thousands of Calgarians that we have mobilized to come from every background possible that are coming together to call in one voice to stop the bombing of Gaza and Israel," she said.Jamal says they did contact Calgary police before the rally. Police eventually showed up, but only after the fights.Police spokeperson Kevin Brookwell says they should have been there."We were in communication with both groups," he said. "We anticipated we were going to have police presence there right at the start.... There was a communication drop and we didn't have anybody at the site, but officers close by."Both Palestinian and Israeli supporters have already contacted police ahead of another rally planned this Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. MT.Police say this time they will be there in full force from the beginning. There will also be 50 volunteer marshals on hand to keep the peace.Organizers hope that presence won't be needed and they encourage Israel supporters to attend."We want you to come again and hold hands with us," she said."If we cannot as Calgarians come together peacefully, how are we going to bring peace over there?"
Palestinian victims describe being used as shields by Hamas
Members of a Gaza family whose farm was turned into a "fortress" by Hamas fighters have reported that they were helpless to stop Hamas from using them as human shields. They described how for years Hamas has used their property and homes as shields for military installations from which to launch rockets into Israel, dig tunnels and store arms. According to the victims, those who tried to object were shot in the legs by Hamas.

Foreign media outlets report that an Israeli airstrike in Gaza on Tuesday targeted the Khan Yunis home of arch-terrorist Mohammed Deif, commander of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s so-called “military wing”.According to the reports, two people were killed in the airstrike.Deif is considered the official who determines the agenda of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades and is regarded as the “brain” behind Hamas.He is likely hiding underground somewhere inside Gaza, fearing the IDF will try to eliminate him.Deif started out as a student of Yahya Ayyash, who was nicknamed “the Engineer” and who was the chief bombmaker of Hamas in the late 1990s, when the organization started carrying out suicide bombing attacks within Israel. Ayyash was eliminated by Israel in 1996.Following Ayyash’s elimination, Deif carried out numerous murderous terror attacks in Israel, including two suicide bombing attacks on buses in Jerusalem and kidnapping attempts within Israel.Israel tried to kill Mohammed Deif several times, without success. One time, he lost an eye and likely his hand as well. In another attempt he was seriously wounded, his hands and legs were amputated and he has been confined to a wheelchair ever since.Meanwhile, the IDF said that a Golani force discovered two tunnel access shafts in northern Gaza on Tuesday.So far, members of the brigade have uncovered three shafts of tunnels within Gaza, eliminated over 25 terrorists and seized weapons and intelligence means belonging to Hamas.

Abbas claimed that Israel's goal was to "undermine the internal unity and reconciliation, but we will continue in this way."We have no aircraft and artillery, but we have justice," he said. “No one will feel security in the entire world, until the Palestinian people will feel it.”Abbas’s sharp attack comes as efforts continue to secure a ceasefire in Gaza. On Monday, Abbas met with Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal in Qatar, and the two issued a joint appeal for an end to "Israeli aggression" in Gaza.Hamas categorically rejected attempts for a ceasefire in multiple statements, insisting that the terms of the agreement 'did not apply' to them.Later, Hamas officials reportedly set a series of unprecedented demands on Israel to accompany a ten-year truce - before threatening Israelis if the government refused to accept.Last week, Abbas encouraged Hamas to accept internationally-brokered ceasefire efforts - if not in the name of Palestinian Arab unity, then at least specifically to hurt Israel."Israel accepted the ceasefire proposal. Newfoundland man wants Harper, Baird charged with advocating for genocide in Middle East

There's a segment of the Canadian population that thinks the Harper government's devout support for Israel is not the right approach in the ongoing conflict between the Jewish state and the Palestinians.
These people — who often argue that Israel is the aggressor — have made their opinions clear via petitions, on message boards, social media and even community rallies.According to the Western Star newspaper, a Newfoundland resident has taken it a step further.The Star reports that Andrew Abbass has filed a complaint with police claiming that Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird were advocating for genocide.He's posted his allegations on the Change.org petition website:Sections 318, 319, and 320 of the Criminal Code of Canada forbid hate propaganda. "Hate propaganda" means "any writing, sign or visible representation that advocates or promotes genocide or the communication of which by any person would constitute an offence under section 319."Section 318 prescribes imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years for anyone who advocates genocide. The Code defines genocide as the destruction of an "identifiable group." The Code defines an "identifiable group" as "any section of the public distinguished by colour, race, religion, ethnic origin or sexual orientation."By choosing to side with one religious state (Israel) and declaring Hamas to be terrorists that need to be destroyed at the expense of civilian lives, Stephen Harper is advocating the destruction of an identifiable group and therefore should be charged with creating and disseminating hate propaganda under the Criminal Code and imprisoned alongside John Baird. According to the Western Star, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s Corner Brook headquarters have forwarded the complaint to the RCMP as they are required to do.The Prime Minister's Office didn't immediately respond to an email asking about the complaint.Both Harper and Baird have positioned themselves among the world's most staunch supporters of the Israeli regime in their very divisive conflict with Palestine.In January, Harper became the first-ever Canadian prime minister to address the Knesset, the Israeli Parliament, speaking of the bond between the two countries and explaining his unflinching support for the Jewish state.Innocent civilians living in Gaza deserve far better than the reckless actions of this terrorist organization.

Pro-Palestine rally organizers are apologizing for the violence seen last Friday at Calgary's City Hall.
Hundreds attended the protest to call for a ceasefire and condemn the current attacks in Gaza but it turned ugly when Israel supporters came to stage a protest of their own."We completely denounce that and want to make sure our message goes out to the people who were hurt in that that we apologize," said Siama Jamal with Justice for Palestinians.The Calgary Jewish Federation (CJF) say the violent outbursts were assaults, and today condemned the violence."It was a very scary and disgusting scene," said CJF member Judy Shapiro, who was at the rally as an observer. "Nobody on the streets of Calgary should be beat up for their opinions."While she was not involved in the altercation, she says one young man has a concussion, a young woman was punched in the face and another young man has a broken nose.She said they were there because they feel strongly about supporting Israel — even though emotions are running high from the latest conflict in Gaza.Shapiro says it is also about freedom of speech."It goes two ways. Everybody has that right," she said.
'Communication drop' around policing rally
Jamal hopes the clash with Israeli protesters won't take away from the rally's message. She would like to see the Canadian government do more to stop the deaths of Palestinian people."I want to focus on the thousands of Calgarians that we have mobilized to come from every background possible that are coming together to call in one voice to stop the bombing of Gaza and Israel," she said.Jamal says they did contact Calgary police before the rally. Police eventually showed up, but only after the fights.Police spokeperson Kevin Brookwell says they should have been there."We were in communication with both groups," he said. "We anticipated we were going to have police presence there right at the start.... There was a communication drop and we didn't have anybody at the site, but officers close by."Both Palestinian and Israeli supporters have already contacted police ahead of another rally planned this Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. MT.Police say this time they will be there in full force from the beginning. There will also be 50 volunteer marshals on hand to keep the peace.Organizers hope that presence won't be needed and they encourage Israel supporters to attend."We want you to come again and hold hands with us," she said."If we cannot as Calgarians come together peacefully, how are we going to bring peace over there?"
