Russia’s decision to send S-300 missile systems to Syria is, in part, a message to the United States, according to the head of the Russian parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Alexei Pushkov.Russia opposes outside interference in Syria’s ongoing civil war, he explained, according to Walla. “We’re opposed to no-fly zones, because they are the first step toward aerial attack,” he said.“Syria asked Russia to help it defend itself from aerial assault,” he added. In early May at least two Syrian military targets were hit in what Syria has said were Israeli airstrikes.According to the Wall Street Journal Russia has sent at least 12 warships to patrol near a Russian Navy base in Syria. According to the report, American and European leaders have widely interpreted the move as a warning to the West and to Israel not to interfere in Syria.
The reported deployment is one of the Russian Navy’s largest since the end of the Cold War.Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has stated that Russia agreed to the S-300 sale based on previous agreements. Russia does not intend to sell Syria new weapons, he said, but will fulfill old commitments.“We do not want our reputation as reliable suppliers of weapons to be affected,” he said.

Russia clarified on Thursday that it would go ahead with selling S-300 advanced missile systems to Syria, despite a request by Israel to cancel the deal.Speaking to the Lebanese-based Al-Mayadeen television, which is close to the Hizbullah terror group, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia is “committed to the agreements” signed with Syria regarding the advanced missiles and will “fully carry them out.”As he has said previously, Lavrov reiterated that Russia does not intend to sign new agreements with Syria for the sale of weapons, but explained that since the S-300 deal was signed before the outbreak of the civil war in Syria, Russia intends to carry it out as planned."We have no intention of breaking international law," Lavrov explained. "However, we do not want our reputation as reliable suppliers of weapons to be affected."Lavrov’s remarks came just two days after Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and spoke to him about the deal.Following their meeting, Netanyahu and Putin spoke to the press, but Netanyahu did not indicate whether he succeeded in convincing Putin to halt arms supplies to Syria or whether the two leaders reached any firm agreements.Speaking to reporters, Netanyahu stressed that his country's task was to "defend its citizens.""Together we are trying to find ways to strengthen stability and security, we have a remarkable opportunity to directly speak with each other," the Israeli premier was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies. An Israeli official told Channel 2 News on Thursday that Netanyahu made it clear to Putin that Israel views the sale of advanced systems to Syria as a “status quo changer” and tried to get him to intervene and halt the deal. The Wall Street Journal reported last week that Israel had warned the United States that Russia plans to sell these advanced weapons to Syria, and that Netanyahu spoke with U.S. President Barack Obama to make him aware of the deal.
Meanwhile, the London-based Arabic-language Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper reported Tuesday that advanced Russian missile launchers have already been transferred to President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
According to the report, 200 launchers for advanced anti-aircraft S-300 missiles are already in Syrian hands, and Syrian experts have been fully trained to use the launchers and no longer need Russian supervision.

Pope blasts "cult of money" that tyrannizes poor

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis has denounced the global financial system, blasting the "cult of money" that he says is tyrannizing the poor and turning humans into expendable consumer goods. In his first major speech on the subject, Francis demanded Thursday that financial and political leaders reform the global financial system to make it more ethical and concerned for the common good. He said: "Money has to serve, not to rule!"It's a message Francis delivered on many occasions when he was archbishop of Buenos Aires, and it's one that was frequently stressed by retired Pope Benedict XVI.Francis, who has made clear the poor are his priority, made the comments as he greeted his first group of new ambassadors accredited to the Holy See.

Francis: “The problem is not that we are sinners: the problem is not repenting of sin”

The Pope said this during his usual morning mass homily in the Sanctae Marthae residence. “Peter was a sinner, but not corrupt. He let himself be shaped by his many encounters with Jesus”

vatican insider staff rome “The problem is not that we are sinners: the problem is not repenting of sin, not being ashamed of what we have done,” Francis remarked during this morning’s mass in the Sanctae Marthae residence. The Pope ran through the entire history of Peter’s encounters with Jesus, drawing attention to the fact that Jesus “gave over His flock to a sinner.”  “Peter was a sinner, but not corrupt, eh? Sinners, yes, everyone: corrupt, no,” Bergoglio then stressed. Some Vatican Museum staff attended today’s mass celebration. The focal point of today’s homily, was the part of the Gospel where the resurrected Jesus asks Peter three times if he loves him. “It’s a dialogue of love between the Lord and his disciple,” Vatican Radio quoted Francis saying. “Jesus in these meetings is maturing Peter’s soul, Peter's heart,” helping Peter to grow in love. So when Peter hears Jesus asking him three times: “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” he feels ashamed because he remembers the time he denied knowing the Lord three times.“Peter was saddened that, for a third time, Jesus asked him, “Do you love me?” This pain, this shame – a great man, this Peter – [and] a sinner, a sinner. The Lord makes him feel that he is a sinner – makes us all feel that we are sinners. The problem is not that we are sinners: the problem is not repenting of sin, not being ashamed of what we have done. That's the problem,” the Pope said.“And Peter has this shame, this humility, no? The sin, the sin of Peter, is a fact that, with a heart as great as the heart Peter had, brings him to a new encounter with Jesus: to the joy of forgiveness. The Lord did not abandon his promise, when said, “You are rock.” In the episode recounted in Friday’s Gospel, we saw Jesus saying, “Feed my sheep,” and the Lord “[gave] over His flock to a sinner.”Peter was a sinner, but not corrupt, eh? Sinners, yes, everyone: corrupt, no. I once knew of a priest, a good parish pastor who worked well. He was appointed bishop, and he was ashamed because he did not feel worthy, he had a spiritual torment. And he went to the confessor. The confessor heard him and said, ‘But do not worry. If after the [mess Peter made of things], they made him Pope, then you go ahead!.’ The point is that this is how the Lord is. That’s the way He is. The Lord makes us mature with many meetings with Him, even with our weaknesses, when we recognize [them], with our sins,” Pope Francis continued. “Peter let himself be shaped by his many encounters with Jesus and this “is something we all need to do as well, for we are on the same road,” the Holy Father said, stressing that “Peter is great, not because he is good, but because he has a nobility of heart, which brings him to tears, leads him to this pain, this shame - and also to take up his work of shepherding the flock.”

Cardinal claims supernatural “signs” pointed to Bergoglio’s election

Cardinal Schönborn says the Argentinean cardinal’s election was the result of a series of “supernatural signs” which appeared prior to the Conclave and later on in the Sistine Chapel led to

Andrea Tornielli vatican city The Archbishop of Vienna, Christoph Schönborn, said that in the run up to the papal election, he had personally had two “strong signs” that the Argentinean candidate, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, was “the chosen one”.The Austrian cardinal is a former pupil of Joseph Ratzinger’s and was one of the favourites to succeed Benedict XVI in the last Conclave, spoke about Francis’ election at a conference held in the Royal Albert Hall in London. Five thousand people attended the conference organised by the Anglican church of Holy Trinity Brompton.
According to British daily The Telegraph, Schönborn said “only divine intervention could explain the speed with which the Argentine Cardinal - who did not feature on any of the main lists of likely candidates compiled by Vatican experts - was elected.”The Archbishop of Vienna explained that on the evening of 12 March when the Conclave began, none of the cardinals knew who was going to be chosen: “It was a tremendous experience of the Holy Spirit ... We were driven by the Holy Spirit to this man – he was sitting in the last corner of the Sistine Chapel: This man he is the chosen one.”  Schönborn added “I received at least two strong signs: one I can tell, the other was in the Conclave I can’t speak about – but real signs of the Lord giving me indication ‘he is the one’.” The cardinal explained that straight after the “pro eligendo Pontifice” Mass, or the Mass for the Election of the Roman Pontiff, celebrated by cardinals on the morning of 12 March in St. Peter’s Square, he bumped into a Latin American couple who are friends of his.Cardinal Schönborn said:  “I met them outside the Basilica and I asked: ‘You have the Holy Spirit, can you give me advice for the Conclave that will start in a few hours?’ And the woman whispered in my ear ‘Bergoglio’, and it hit me really: if these people say Bergoglio, that’s an indication of the Holy Spirit.” The cardinal also received a second sign during the Conclave which concluded in the late afternoon the following day, on 13 March. “I’m sure many of us received similar signs during the Conclave, it wouldn’t have been possible to have this election so soon and so rapidly,” the cardinal said. The comments made by Vienna’s archbishop give some idea of the dynamics of what went on in the Sistine Chapel. Given his educational background (he is a member of the Communio group) and his friendship with the men in question, it was widely believed Schönborn would vote for one of the candidates tipped as possible successors to Benedict XVI, i.e. the Archbishop of Milan, Cardinal Angelo Scola and the Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, Marc Ouellet. But his latest statements seem to indicate this was not the case at all and that he had in fact intended to vote for the Argentinean candidate right from the start.

LIKE THE BIBLE SAYS.IF THIS IS THE RELIGIOUS DEFECTOR FROM CHRISTIANITY.HE WILL WANT ALL FAITHS UNITED.THIS POPE IS HEAVILY INTO ALL RELIGIONS COMBINING INTO ONE.BY DECIEVING THE YOUNG YOU CAN DO THAT.YOU DRILL INTO THE HEADS OF THE YOUNG PEOPLE THAT ALL FAITHS LEAD TO HEAVEN.WHICH IS A LIE.ONLY JESUS LEADS TO SALVATION.NO OTHER WAY.

The World Youth Day organising committee is planning to dedicate July 21st - before the official start to the celebrations - to fraternity and dialogue between religious representatives

Domenico Agasso Jr. Rome
Pope Francis will celebrate a mass in Portuguese during his visit to the Marian shrine of Aparecida, as part of the World Youth Day celebrations that are going to be held in Rio between 22 and 29 July 2013. The news was announced by the Auxiliary Bishop of Aparecida, Darci Nicioli, who explained that the Pope wanted to “get closer” to the Brazilian “faithful”.

The interreligious meeting on July 21st
“Even though the Vatican would prefer the mass to be celebrated in the Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida, we are making preparations to allow the Pope to bless and address the crowd that will be gathered outside,” Nicioli added.Young Catholics, Jews and Muslims will come together at this year’s World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro (23-28 July). The meeting will take place on 21 July at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. About two hundred leaders of the world’s three main monotheistic religions “will come together to present the main elements of their own faith, as well as the concrete actions they have taken to foster interreligious dialogue,” the WYD organising committee announced.During the event, “young leaders will hold debates, in which they will be encouraged to suggest concrete actions to help transform society.” A video on the outcome of dialogue across different parts of the world, about the role of youth in society and young people’s commitment in various fields” will be shown at the meeting. There will also be a “cultural presentation on religions” and it has now been conformed that the Brazilian priest, university professor, writer, composer and artist, Fábio de Melo - who is famous in his country for his method of spreading the word of God – will also be attending. The idea to hold an interreligious meeting “sprang from a proposal that was made by a group of Muslims, Jews and Catholics who meet every month in Rio de Janeiro to share the path of mutual respect and dialogue.” Fr. Arnaldo Rodrigues, one of the pastoral preparation section, said: “Today, in Brazil, we see important steps being taken in this direction, and the World Youth Day helps give greater exposure to initiatives like this.”The interreligious youth event in Rio is not the only one of its kind being held. In fact, WYD organisers have revealed that Brazil’s National Council of Christian Churches together with the local organising committee, are currently busy preparing an ecumenical event, to bring young leaders of Christian Churches together, making the most of the opportunity presented by the World Youth Day.” The event will be held in the Cathedral of the Anglican Church in Rio de Janeiro, during the WYD week.”In a press conference, Rio de Janeiro’s mayor, Eduardo Paes, explained the main measures that will be adopted during the international meeting, reminding journalists of the complexity of this big event.

The mayor of Rio on the scale and complexity of the event
The municipality of Rio de Janeiro estimates that there will be a million and a half pilgrims in the city in the week of the manifestation. “That’s more than the number of people that usually attend the World Cup or the Olympics,” the mayor said. He has asked the city’s residents to get ready to make “quite a few sacrifices.”
To make the lives of residents easier, Paes has issued a decree proclaiming 25 and 26 July public holidays. These are the dates of the much-awaited Stations of the Cross and the mass on the magical Copacabana beach. The “Cidade Maravilhosa’s” nightmarish traffic could become even worse with the arrival of 20 thousand busloads of pilgrims. But what is concerning organisers the most is the accommodation. The city has only been able to guarantee 270 thousand beds, most of them in municipal and state schools. Even the Sambodromo, where the carnival – the world’s most famous annual pagan celebration - traditionally takes place, will be used for the event. The Vatican has said that for security reasons, Bergoglio will get around the city in an armoured car with bullet-proof windows instead of the usual pope mobile which has no side protection.
