In a recent article, Arab-Israeli sheikh Abdallah Nimr Badir, from the village of Kafar Qasem, wrote that some Israeli Arabs, especially Islamists, enjoy the freedoms and rights that Israel grants to its citizens, yet at the same time incite against the state and denounce Israeli Arabs who take part in institutions such as the Israeli Labor Party. The article, published in the Israeli-Arab weekly Al-Sunara, was a response to an article published a few weeks ago in the same paper by Sheikh Kamal Khatib, deputy of Israeli Islamist movement leader Sheikh Raed Salah, in which he criticized Israeli Arabs who take part in Israeli politics.The following are excerpts from Sheikh Nimr's article.[1]Whoa there, Sheikh [Kamal Khatib]... [Some] dubious writers [allow themselves to] proclaim who is headed for Paradise and who is headed for Hell, who is virtuous and who is not. They appoint themselves God and hand out certificates of pardon and salvation as though they are [the source of all] deliverance and victory. They think that they and the other members of their movement and party are the best of people, the most free of blame and worthy of Paradise. Stuff and nonsense! Such foolish behavior is itself a betrayal of the divine message, [and could] lead to civil war...It is the Zionist state that pays these people their salaries, and grants them the right to serve as judges, parliament members, administrators, [public] representatives, overseers, mayors, village elders and imams. It is [the Zionist state] that allows them to travel around the world. [Yet despite this], some of them seize every opportunity to incite against the Zionist state.This is puzzling. Why do the authorities allow these people to incite against the state, and then pay their salaries at the end of each month...?

The Zionist media, including the Arab media within it, glorify these people, to the extent that they have become regular denizens [of these media outlets] who [constantly] incite against the Zionist state, whereas not a single Zionist opposes them. The Palestinian cause and [the struggle for] Al-Aqsa have become their own private domain, which nobody else has a right to enter. Claiming that the entire nation is in peril, they brandish slogans [like] Al-Aqsa is in danger and we will save you, O Al-Aqsa.Yet, as far as I have seen and heard, not one of them has ever died defending the sanctity of Al-Aqsa. How long will we continue [listening] to these misleading writers and speakers of false slogans, who deceive us and hide the [true] facts? They all live in this Zionist state and carry [Israeli] identity cards. All of them, including these questionable writers, queue at the gates of the Zionist institutions – be it municipal councils, political parties, or civil associations – asking for aid... And it has been proven unequivocally that these writers meet with the state's decision makers, asking for [various] privileges and high-level appointments for themselves and their associates...And what do you [writers] do in return for these favors? You and Allah know [the answer] better than anyone else. Whom are you deceiving and whom are you opposing with these slogans [of yours]?... What do you demand of the Zionist state, today and always? On the economic level: equality, a dignified life, [proper] infrastructures for every village and city, an expansion of zoning plans [to make room] for the next generation, jobs for university graduates, industry parks for the Arab population, and a reduction of the unemployment rate.As for the political level, I have never heard these dubious writers state in public that they want to destroy the Zionist state or throw its Jewish citizens into the sea, though their articles and publications do imply this... Everyone clearly agrees that the occupation must be removed from the Arab, Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese lands, and that a Palestinian state must be established on the June 4, 1967 borders, dividing historical Palestine into two states for two peoples. All [the Arabs], both Islamists and secularists, have recognized the existence of the Zionist state... The majority has accepted this, especially among the Arabs and Palestinians. So where will the solution come from, if not from the Zionist state? Let us pause here in front of this state of mad dictatorship, and compare it with what Israel has committed against us in recent times, and I say recent times as we are talking about the last five years, particularly the Lebanon and Gaza wars.The entire world rushes to stop Israel's aggressions against Lebanon in 2006, and this war ended after approximately two months, claiming the lives of 1,200 Lebanese. The same thing applies to the Gaza war, which had approximately the same death toll.In both wars, the public opinion in the Arab world rushed to take action, whilst counterfeit friends of Israel lists were issued, masterminded by the Assad regime; indeed a number of Arab politicians attempted to exploit this tragedy, most prominently the Assad regime. However, we did not hear anybody ask – even now – why did these wars happen? Whose interests did these wars, and more, serve? Who was responsible for this? We Have Seen the Syrian Forces Brutally Killing Their Own People... It is As If We As Arabs Are Saying That If the Killer is An Arab, Then This Is Something That We Can Accept – But If He's An Israeli, We Must All Act As One To Put An End To This

Today, in the case of Assad, we have seen the Syrian forces brutally killing their own people on our television screens over the past year – not two months – whilst the death toll stands at more than 8,000 and the tyrant of Damascus's troops have destroyed mosques, tortured and assassinated children, as well as women and the elderly, simply in order to allow Assad to cling to power.Despite all this, we find some countries, politicians, media organizations and figures, who are procrastinating; it is as if we as Arabs are saying that if the killer is an Arab, then this is something that we can accept – but if he is an Israeli, then we must all act as one to put an end to this! This is a saddening and shameful state of affairs, particularly when somebody like Hassan Nasrallah shamelessly comes out to defend Assad!

The Departure of This Tyrant Will Serve To Root Out Hypocrisy In Our Region, As Its Most Prominent Symbol Is the Assad Regime

Therefore, if we compare Assad to Israel we will discover the extent of the growing hypocrisy in our region – and one of the most important sources of this is the Assad regime, both the regime of the father and the son, which have survived based on the lie of the resistance, and others.The departure of this tyrant will serve to root out hypocrisy in our region, as its most prominent symbol is the Assad regime.Endnotes:

China and Russia have a vested interested in Iranian nuclear facilities, but except for them, as well as Syria and Lebanon, almost no one -- especially not the Gulf States, Israel and the United States -- wants to see Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad armed with a nuclear warhead. Such a weapon would be aimed at carrying out his dream of wiping Israel off the map and dominating the region with an Islamic empire.A glance at financial markets indicates that the biggest obstacle to the Obama administration’s giving the green light to prevent Iran from getting the bomb is not fear of a military response but rather of an oil-driven recession.Israel cares much more about Iran having a bomb than the price of oil, while the West and East have an overwhelming interest in keeping the flow of oil going, David Kelly, chief market strategist at J.P. Morgan Fund told CBS MarketWatch this week.Military officers and analysts have batted the question of an attack on Iran around the ballpark, with estimates of Iran’s reaction ranging from terrorist attacks on American overseas bases and Israeli targets around the world to a raging regional Middle East war.However, the fragile American economy in an election is perhaps the most important factor in President Barack Obama’s decision to attack or not to attack.

The price at the pump has soared by 50 cents a gallon since the beginning of the year, to approximately $4 a gallon in some places. The average price now is approximately $3.75 a gallon.The older generation has sharp memories the 1970s, when oil jumped four-fold to $12 a barrel during the Yom Kippur War and then to $40 at the end of the decade, driving the United States into a recession.Economists point out that the United States is more energy efficient and the economy more stable, although not roaring, than before, but there is a limit to how much it can withstand.President Obama is enjoying his highest popularity in more than year as the unemployment rate drops, but public spending is bound to drop if gasoline prices soar much past $4 a gallon.
