Now, some news reports say the Russian’s claim they’ve just sent a Navy tanker to support anti-piracy operations in Middle Eastern waters and that any troops aboard that ship are simply there to protect the tanker’s civilian crew and that there are no Russian counterterror troop in Syria. Now, the ship is docked in the Syrian port of Tartus on the Mediterranean Sea. That’s a very long way from the Gulf of Aden in the Indian Sea — the site of most anti-piracy ops. Hey, it could just be making a brief port call. Oh wait, other reports say the ship, and its complement of Russian marines, is in Tartus to demonstrate Kremlin concern over Syria’s stability, and to assist in case of a possible evacuation of Russian civilians from the region.

But some former officials urged caution when interpreting the war games' reported results. It's clear the administration believes an Israeli strike on Iran would be extremely problematic,Ken Pollack, a national security expert at the Brookings Institution Saban Center for Middle East studies and a former director for Persian Gulf affairs at the National Security Council, told Yahoo News in a telephone interview Tuesday. But it is not at all clear that the game demonstrates that an Israeli strike could produce American casualties.Pollack, who has designed and directed many such war games, explained that the designers of the game could simply have created an Iranian attack on the U.S. Navy ship as a method for testing America's control system to see if it could handle it.The report on the war games comes as Israeli Defense Forces Chief of Staff Gen. The order is either a serious power grip or another sign that inside the deep recesses of the White House, they are preparing for war, Phil Flynn, an energy analyst at PFGBest, told MarketWatch.The executive order mandates that departments of the federal government related to defense be prepared, in the event of a potential threat to the security of the United States, to take actions necessary to ensure the availability of adequate resources and production capability, including services and critical technology for national defense requirements.Despite White House spokesman Jay Carney brushing the executive order aside as a routine piece of business, New York Times best-selling author Edwin Black writes that its passage signals,Obama may have quietly placed the United States on a war preparedness footing, perhaps in anticipation of an outbreak of war between Israel, the West, and Iran.Pointing out that the executive order is clearly designed to combat an imminent interruption in oil supplies to the United States, Black writes that the move is a precursor to any potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz,which would obstruct some 40 percent of the world’s seaborne oil, some twenty percent of the global supply, and about 20 percent of America’s daily needs.With the US positioning three aircraft carriers along with numerous anti-mine ships in the Strait of Hormuz, the threat to oil markets of any potential attempt by Iran to close the key oil choke point is being tackled head on.In addition, the recent speculation that emergency oil stocks will be released by the United States and the UK is also seen by many as a precursor to an attack on Iran.

Even so, Israeli staff members barely escaped with their lives, and the embassy has since been unable to secure new quarters.Last week the Egyptian parliament,currently controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood, demanded Israel's envoy be expelled in response to the IDF's defense of southern Israel against rocket attacks from Gaza.According to the report, Israeli Ambassador Yaacov Amitai and his staff have also left the country. Israel's Foreign Ministry could not be reached for comment, and attempts by Arutz Sheva to reach a spokesperson from the Prime Minister's Office were met with failure as well.

Amitai had just taken office in February; his predecessor, Yitzchak Levnon, was forced to flee the country after demonstrators stormed the embassy.The attack on the embassy was ignited by the deaths of six Egyptian security personnel who were caught in the crossfire between IDF soldiers and Gaza terrorists during an attack on Israel along the border with Egypt last August. The terrorists, operatives from the Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), killed eight Israelis and also wounded numerous others in the attack on Highway 12, just north of Eilat.A gag order was lifted Wednesday, allowing publication of the news that a Hamas terrorist was arrested late last month in connection with a plot to carry out a similar attack in the same location, and to kidnap another IDF soldier as well.
