TODAY BEFORE I WRITE A DETAILED UPBEAT SOLUTION FOR TOMORROW.I AM PLAYING THE SCEPTIC.WHY THIS MIGHT NOT BE THE MH370-777-200ER.BUT A DUMP SITE OF ANOTHER PLANE TO COVERUP THE KIDNAPPING.I FIND WAY TO MANY COINCIDENCES HERE.WHAT A COIN THAT THEY JUST HAPPENED TO FIND IT ON THE LAST DAY OF THE PINGER RUNOUT. WHAT A COIN THAT IT TURNS UP ON THE EXACT LINES PROJECTED BY MALAYSIA AND INMARSAT CO-ORDINATES.

OK STILL PLAYING THE SCEPTIC.LETS START BACK AT THE LEFT TURN ON ITS WAY TO CHINA.ON THE TURN THE PILOT OR PILOTS OR KIDNAPPERS FORCED THE PILOTS TO DELIBERATELY DRIVE BACK TO MALAYSIAN TERRITORY.THEN WHEN THEY GOT TO A CERTAIN POINT IN MALAYSIA THEY HANG ANOTHER LEFT AND TRAVEL ALL THE WAY TO THE TIP OF INDONESIA .AND THEN THEY CONTINUE AROUND INDONESIA SO THEY CAN NOT BE DETECTED BY RADAR AND THEN PROCEED TO THE INDIAN OCEAN POSSIBLY WANTING TO LAND IN AUSTRALIA WITH THE KIDNAPPED CITIZENS TO INTERIGATE THEM.I MIGHT JUST ADD HERE THE REASON I BELIEVE IT WAS THE PILOTS THAT KIDNAPPED THESE PEOPLE IS.THAT THE PILOTS DAUGHTER LIVES IN AUSTRALIA.THEN AFTER THE KIDNAPP ING OCCURRED HE AND THE CO-PILOT COULD GO TO HIS DAUGHTERS PLACE AND HAVE A GREAT ALIBY BY SAYING.WE CAME TO AUSTRALIA TO VISIT HIS DAUGHTER FOR A FEW WEEKS.WHAT A GREAT WAY TO COVERUP THE KIDNAPPING AND GET AWAY WITH THE DIRTY DEED.

BUT IF THEY DID KIDNAPP THE CITIZENS HOW AN EARTH DID THEY GET AWAY WITH IT.WELL LETS SAY THAT MALAYSIA-INDONESIA-INMARSTAT WERE ALL INVOLVED WITH THE KIDNAPPING.ONCE AGAIN THEY HAVE A CLONE OF THE MH370 SITTING IN INDONESIA WAITING TO TAKE OFF AS SOON AS THE MH370 LANDED IN INDONESIA.NOW LETS GO BACK TO THAT LEFT TURN.THEN DOWN OVER MALAYSIA.BUT HERES WERE THE SETUP STARTS.WHILE THEIR DRIVING ON THEIR WAY TO INDONESIA.AND AFTER THE RADAR HAD PICKED THEM UP TO LOOK LIKE ITS A STRAIT RUN AROUND INDONESIA.THE PILOTS THEY DO A QUICK LANDING WITH THE KIDNAPPED CITIZENS.AFTER THE LAST PING OCCURRED. AND SINCE INMARSAT WOULD BE INVOLVED.THEY WOULD TELL THE PILOTS THE PING HAS GOT USE ON RADAR.NOW-WE WILL STOP OUR RADAR HERE UNTIL USE LAND IN INDONESIA AND THE CLONE PLANE GETS BACK IN THE AIR AT THE VERY PLACE WERE USE LEFT OFF AFTER THE LAST PING.THEN WE CAN CONTINUE ON THE DECEPTION WITH THE CLONE PLANE. DRIVING THE REST OF THE WAY AROUND INDONESIA SO IT WILL LOOK LIKE YOU TRYED TO AVOID INDONESIAS RADAR.AND THEN USE WENT SO MANY HOURS DRIVING OVER THE INDIAN OCEAN.IN THIS CLONE PLANE-USE WOULD HAVE BUILT IN IT A ESCAPE HATCH DOORWAY USE COULD OPEN AND JUMP OUT AFTER USE PUT THE PLANE ON A STRIGHT LINE ON AUTO PILOT AFTER USE GET TO THE INDIAN OCEAN.THIS WAY USE COULD PUT THE CLONE PLANE ON AUTO PILOT AND JUMP OUT THE ESCAPE HATCH ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PLANE USE BUILT.AND SOMEBODY WOULD BE WAITING FOR USE IN THE INDIAN OCEAN.AS USE WOULD SEE THE BOAT WHAT WOULD PICK USE UP. MEANWHILE THE AUTO PILOT WOULD DRIVE ON FOR HOURS TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE THE PILOTS WERE DRIVING IT. UNTIL IT RUNS OUTTA GAS AND FALLS OTTA THE SKY INTO THE INDIAN OCEAN ON ITS OWN.

IF THIS WOULD BE A DIVERSION CLONE PLANE OF THE MH370.WHAT WOULD WE EXPECT ON THE CRIME SCENE OR WERE THE DECEPTION PLANE LANDED IN THE OCEAN.WELL SINCE ITS A CLONE OF MH370.THEY WOULD HAVE A BLANK BLACK BOX AND 2ND BOX ON IT JUST LIKE THE MH370.SO THE RECOVERY WORKERS COULD DISCOVER IT JUST LIKE THEY THINK THEY DID TODAY.BUT WHEN THEY FINALLY DISCOVERED THIS CLONE OF MH370.WHEN THEY FINALLY GET DOWN TO THE 4,500 FEET.AND START LOOKING IN THE PLANE.THEY WOULD DISCOVER THAT THERE IS NO PEOPLE IN THE PLANE.THEY WOULD DISCOVER THE BLACK BOX HAS NOTHING ON IT A BLANK.WOULD THIS NOT BE THE GREATEST KIDNAPPING DELIBERATE DIVERSION OF ALL TIME.MEANWHILE THE CRIMINALS THE PILOTS OR WHOEVER KIDNAPPED THE CITIZENS WOULD BE PAID OFF BY THE INDONES IANS.AND THE INDONESIANS WHO WERE INVOLVED IN THE KIDNAPPING. WOULD PAY THE INVOLVED PEOPLE OFF.AND TAKE THEM BY A PRIVATE PLANE FROM INDONESIA TO WHATEVER COUNTRY THEY WANTED TO GO WITH A FALSE PASSPORT. SO THE CRIMINALS COULD ENJOY THE CASH UNDER A NEW NAME.THE CRIMINALS COULD THEN GET FACELIFTS AT THEIR NEW COUNTRIES SET UP BY THE INDONESIAN KIDNAPPERS.AND START THEIR NEW LIVES WITH ALL THE MILLIONS THEY GOT FROM THE KIDNAPPING.MEANWHILE BACK IN INDONESIA THE FREESCALE WORKERS AND THE REST FROM THE PLANE WOULD BE INTERIGATED.THE DEFENCE INTELLIGENCE WORKERS WOULD BE SAVED.AND THE REST WOULD HAVE TO BE KILLED.SO NO ONE WOULD EVER KNOW WERE THE KIDNAPPED VICTIMS WENT.AND INDONESIA COULD GET AWAY WITH THE DECEPTION KIDNAP.WELL HERES MY TAKE ON THE SCEPTIC PART OF THIS POSSIBLE FINDING OF MH370 SITE IN THE INDIAN OCEAN NEAR AUSTRALIA. TOMORROW I WILL PUT THE GOOD FACTS ABOUT WHAT THIS GOOD NEWS CAN MEAN TO FINALLY GIVE THE FAMILY MEMBERS CLOSURE.

Flight MH370: Stories of that final day-Mar 31st 2014 2:09PM-1874248-AOL.COM
By TIM SULLIVAN and EILEEN NG

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) -- One morning, many stories.-The three women woke before sunrise that day, leaving their hotel while it was still dark and boarding a small plane in Katmandu, Nepal, for a look at Mount Everest. They were Chinese retirees, avid photographers ending a two-week tour of the Himalayan nation. Late that night, after a stopover in Kuala Lumpur, they would head home to Beijing. The Indonesian couple woke up at home, a tidy two-story concrete-walled house down a small alley in the city of Medan. A taxi arrived a few hours later to take them to the airport, starting them on a journey to a long-anticipated vacation without their children, a trip to China to see the Great Wall and Beijing's Forbidden City.In Kuala Lumpur's Chinatown, the artists and calligraphers headed down to breakfast about 8 a.m. Some had been celebrating the night before, downing shots of the powerful Chinese liquor called Xifengjiu at the end of almost a week exhibiting their work. But they gathered early in the hotel restaurant, ready for a day of sightseeing and shopping before the late-night flight back to Beijing. And in Perth, in western Australia, the 39-year-old mechanical engineer woke up early in his red-roofed bungalow, leaving his wife and their two young boys for a 28-day mining job in Mongolia. Just before he headed to the airport, on his way to connecting flights in Kuala Lumpur and Beijing, Paul Weeks gave his wife his wedding ring and watch for safekeeping. If anything happened to him, he said, he wanted the boys to have them someday. "Don't be stupid!" she told him.It was Friday morning, March 7.By that evening, they would all be together in a departure lounge in Kuala Lumpur's airport, with its granite floors and soaring ceilings and tiny plot of transplanted, living rainforest. And a little after midnight on March 8, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 took off for Beijing, carrying 239 people inside its meticulously engineered metal shell.

We know only the broadest outlines of what happened next.-Soon after takeoff, Flight 370 disappeared. Its transponders had been switched off. Soon, the blip was gone from radars. This past week, after more than two weeks of searches across tens of thousands of square miles, Malaysia's prime minister announced that satellite data showed the plane's last known position to be in a remote corner of the Indian Ocean, far from its destination and far from any possible landing sites. How it happened, and why, remains unclear. Perhaps it was a hijacking, perhaps pilot suicide, perhaps a catastrophic malfunction. It had been a heavily Asian passenger list, reflecting both the locale of the flight and the changing face of the continent, home to a new generation of 21st-century people who form an emerging tourist and traveling class. Some of those aboard were heading home, others just making a quick stopover. Some were returning from their first trip abroad. For others, foot soldiers in Asia's growing economies, it was just one more connecting flight in a lifetime of connecting flights. The people at airports, those who get dropped off, proceed through security and make their way to their gates, are usually right in the middle of the business of their lives. Much of what happens is not even memorable. But now, for many who knew the people aboard Flight 370, that last full day looms so large. Everyday details, now loaded with the ballast of hindsight, take on fresh weight. But does it mean anything that Liu Rusheng, at 76 one of the oldest of the 19 Chinese artists and calligraphers, argued with his wife shortly before their plane took off? Does it mean anything that Zhao Zhaofang, known for her delicate paintings of peonies, bought Malaysian chocolates that afternoon to take home as a present? Is it important that Paul Weeks told his wife that his wedding ring should go to the first of his sons to get married, or that Chandrika Sharma, an Indian social activist on her way to a conference in Mongolia, called her elderly mother just before the plane took off? It's only in retrospect that what happened that Friday now seems anything more than prosaic, more than just another passing day."By the time we arrived at the (Katmandu) airport, the sun had already risen, so we flew over the mountains as we embraced the rising sun," said Wang Dongcheng, 65, a retired professor of Chinese literature who was on the Everest flight with the three women who would disappear with Flight 370. Most of those on the tour were retired Chinese academics. Only some had chosen to take the Everest tour. Many had been put off by the small plane or the $230 price tag. The three women, though, had carefully prepared, putting on bright clothing and scarves, ready for when the plane landed with Mount Everest in the background."They loved to be photographed, and they were dressed for photos," Wang said. "They were very beautiful."Wang declined to reveal the full names of the women, but The Associated Press confirmed their identities independently. One, 62-year-old Ding Ying, had been a happy, talkative presence throughout the tour, always telling jokes. Another, Chen Yun, said one of her Everest photos might be the best she had ever taken. Yang Xiaoming spoke about how much she'd learned in Nepal, and how she was thinking of going on an upcoming tour to England, Ireland and Iceland.Plans for future trips, though, suddenly seem almost disrespectful. "I don't think anyone is in the mood to think about it now," Wang says.Of the 23 people on the tour, he said nine walked onto the Malaysia Airlines flight when boarding was announced.---In Medan, on the east coast of Indonesia's Sumatra island, Sugianto Lo had dreamed for years of a vacation alone with his wife, Vinny Chynthya Tio. But the couple - he was an electrical contractor, she a mechanical engineer - had had little time for vacations. They had worked their way onto the lower rungs of Indonesia's new middle class, and they had three children to send to college. So when a friend gave them the gift of a trip to China, they were thrilled to accept."It was like a dream come true," said Santi Lo, Sugianto's younger sister, who with her mother is now caring for the children left behind. "They were so happy and excited to go."Leaving turned out to be difficult. The couple, both 47, worried about their children, from whom they had never been separated, and called repeatedly from the airports in Medan and Kuala Lumpur. They worried their oldest, 17-year-old Antonio, might not come home before dark while they were gone, and they called and sent him text messages, reminding him of his responsibility to his younger brother and sister."They asked Antonio to be a good example to his siblings, and take care of them," Santi said, weeping. For the 19 artists and calligraphers, the visit to Kuala Lumpur was their first trip to Malaysia. While the exhibition had gone well, many had suffered badly with the city's heat. So that Friday - a day spent largely in air-conditioned malls and the Petronas Twin Towers - was in many ways a respite. In the afternoon there was a stop at the Oz-like royal palace, where many took photos with the scarlet-clad cavalry guards. They left early for the airport, since many had delicate artwork to pack, and they stopped at a Chinese restaurant not far away for a last meal in Malaysia. They chose a restaurant that served halal food to make things easier on the group's lone Muslim, who had rarely been able to eat with the larger contingent. Liu, the elderly calligrapher, sang for the bus as they headed to the airport. Many clapped along. The mood was spirited. At the airport, though, Liu complained to his wife that she had done a poor job packing his paintings, said Xu Lipu, an artist on the trip who took a separate flight back to China."They were a little bit angry with each other," he said.Xu, who had gone to the airport to drop off the travelers, said there were no heartfelt partings. And as with so many planes leaving so many airports on an increasingly connected planet, Flight 370 went on its way - another routine departure beginning a trip that would be anything but."We and the other artists did not really say goodbye," Xu said. "I went to the toilet and came back, and I didn't see the artists again."----Sullivan reported from New Delhi, Ng from Kuala Lumpur. Associated Press writers Didi Tang, Gillian Wong and Ian Mader in Beijing, Fu Ting in Shanghai, Niniek Karmini in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Binaj Gurubacharya in Katmandu, Nepal, contributed to this report.

Missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370: Did jetliner fly into area controlled by Taliban? Net widens after claims final satellite signal could have been sent from the ground-Pilots’ homes searched as number of countries involved in search rises to 25-Kunal Dutta Author Biography , David Keys , Andrew Buncombe-INDEPENDENT MAR 16,14

Eight days after the Boeing 777 vanished, The Independent has learnt that Malaysian authorities are seeking diplomatic permission to investigate a theory that the plane was flown to one of a number of Taliban strongholds on the Afghan border in North West Pakistan. The latest revelation came as it was revealed that the final message sent to air traffic controllers from the jet's cockpit - “ All right, good night” - was spoken after someone on board had already disabled the plane's ACARS reporting system.Around 14 minutes later someone also switched off the plane's transponder, which identifies it to commercial radar systems. Malaysian Air force Major General Affendi Buang told reporters that the two separate actions, along with the calm message in between, “will tell you something” about whether the diversion was deliberate or not.At least 25 countries are now assisting in the search for the plane, intensifying challenges of co-ordinating ground, sea and aerial efforts. Countries known to be involved include Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Burma, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and Australia, with special assistance regarding satellite data requested from the US, China and France. On Sunday Malaysian officials examined a sophisticated flight simulator belonging to the chief pilot of the missing jet, after experts said only a trained person could have turned off the plane’s communication equipment and flown it off course without being detected.Working on the theory that the plane was intentionally flown off course, police have delved into the backgrounds of captain Zaharie Ahmed Shah, 53, and 27-year-old co-pilot Fariq Abdul Hamid. Their homes were searched on Saturday, and on Sunday, experts examined the simulator Mr Shah kept in his home which he had built himself.

The search for missing Malaysia Airlines plane

There have been no reported sightings or concrete leads on the whereabouts of the jet, which vanished from radar screens shortly after it took off in Kuala Lumpur at 00.40am on the morning of 8 March, destination Beijing. The final confirmed location for MH370 on civilian radar was at 1.21am, but it was spotted less than an hour later on military radar, far to the west of that position. Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak revealed that “ping” signals from the plane was last received at 8.11am.Based on data collated by the British company Inmarsat’s satellite network, at that point the plane was on one of two possible arcs – one stretching north from Thailand to Kazakhstan and crossing more than 10 countries, and one to the south over Indonesia and out across the southern Indian ocean. Experts have said the aircraft could have been on the ground when it sent its satellite signals.Boeing 777s need a runway of at least 5,000ft long, limiting the number of possible sites within the 2,200 nautical mile-radius it is believed the plane could have flown from its last known position.Last night sources in Kuala Lumpur assisting with the investigation told The Independent that full diplomatic permissions were being sought in order to rule out the theory that the plane could have flown to areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan that are not under government control.Large areas of the southern half of Afghanistan are ruled by the Afghan Taliban, while some areas of north-west Pakistan, adjacent to or near to the Afghan border, are controlled by the Pakistani Taliban.A spokesman for Malaysian Airlines said: “These are matters for the jurisdiction of those regions and Malaysia’s armed forces and department of civil aviation. In regard to Pakistan and Afghanistan, we cannot explore those theories without permission. We hope to have that soon.”For a commercial plane to pass undetected through these regions, which are highly militarised with robust air defence networks, many run by the US military, would require a combination of extremely sophisticated navigation, brazen audacity and security failure by those monitoring international airspace. However, with so little known about the fate of the plane, and the investigation growing in scale every day, it is yet another line of enquiry that remains impossible to rule out. On Sunday Pakistani civil aviation officials said they had checked their radar recordings and found no sign of the missing jet.Malaysian officials said they had requested help from a dozen Asian countries and had asked them to provide radar data. They have also asked for assistance from Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia and France, which administers a handful of islands deep in the southern Indian Ocean.“The search area has been significantly expanded, and the search area has changed. We are now looking at large tracts of land, crossing 11 countries as well as deep and remote oceans,” said Malaysia’s Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.Khalid Abu Bakar, Malaysia’s police chief, said investigators researching the backgrounds of the people who boarded Flight MH370 had found no passengers with aviation expertise. He said a number of foreign intelligence agencies had been working with the Malaysians, though he said information was still pending from some countries with nationals on the flight.Police are looking at the personal, political and religious backgrounds of all crew members. A number of ground support staff who might have worked on the plane are also being investigated.Officials urged reporters not to jump to conclusions on the pilot and co-pilot, who they said had not asked to work together that day, and had not requested additional fuel for the aircraft.Reuters reported police had said their inquiries had found no links between Captain Shah and any militant group.

Top US Senator to Abbas: Recognize Jewish State Now-Robert Menendez says that PA chief Mahmoud Abbas needs to recognize Israel as a Jewish state.-By Moshe Cohen-First Publish: 4/7/2014, 12:12 AM-Israelnationalnews

Speaking Sunday, US Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Robert Menendez said that it was unacceptable for Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas to continue refusing to recognize Israel as a Jewish state. “Notwithstanding any hopes we may harbor, one thing is certain, set in stone: President Abbas must recognize the Jewish state as a Jewish state without equivocation,” Menendez said.In his speech at the Jerusalem Post Conference in New York, Menendez discussed Iran at length. “If past is prologue, I’m skeptical of Iran keeping its promises,” he said. “Based on the parameters described in the Joint Plan of Action, all I have heard in briefings, and recent Iranian actions— I am very concerned.""Make no mistake," Menendez added. "While they are smiling at our negotiators across the table, they are plotting in the back room."Although a Democrat, Menendez said that when it came to defending Israel, he, and other Democrats, could be considered “conservative. "We are all conservative when it comes to Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state. We are all conservative when it comes to keeping the people of Israel safe and secure in their homes and within their borders.”

Palestinians will Face 'Tsunami' of Legal Charges at Hague-Legal NGO chief vows to hit Hamas and Fatah with charges of terrorism once Palestinians join the International Criminal Court.-By Gil Ronen-First Publish: 4/6/2014, 7:37 PM-Israelnationalnews

Shurat Hadin, a non-governmental organization that operates against Palestinian terrorists through the courts, said it would lodge 'a tsunami' of criminal complaints against senior Palestinians with the International Criminal Court (ICC), which is based in The Hague.Following the signing of 15 international treaties by the Palestinian Authority (PA) in order to be accepted into UN organizations, and the PA's ongoing threat to join the ICC, Shurat Hadin has begin preparing charges against senior PA officials for involvement in terror attacks. In the documents to be filed to the ICC, Shurat Hadin's lawyers will claim that the senior officials, including people from Hamas and Fatah, bear direct responsibility for terror strikes against Israel, which they abetted and encouraged. In April of 2013, Shurat Hadin launched a campaign for collecting the names and details of hundreds of Israeli terror victims who could serve as complainants in the international courts. The group is now using that information to prepare the charges against the Palestinian officials.Ever since the PA was accorded observer-state status in the UN last year, Palestinian leaders have been threatening Israel with the possibility that they will ask to be members of the ICC, in order to be able to file charges of war crimes agsint Israeli military officers and soldiers, as well as political leaders. They claim that the Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria are illegal and constitute a breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention.Shurat Hadin notes, however, that once an entity joins the ICC, that court's powers can also be turned against it. Just as the Palestinians will be able to file charges against Israel, Israelis and non-Israelis who fell victim to Palestinian terror will be able to file charges against leaders of Hamas and Fatah.Shurat Hadin says that the Palestinian leaders in Gaza, Judea and Samaria may well face “a tsunami of criminal complaints” regarding war crimes.“Luckily, we knew what was coming, and over the past year we have been collecting testimony from terror victims in Israel, to serve as a basis for charges in the ICC,” said Shurat Hadin Chairperson, Attorney Nitzana Darshan-Leitner. “It was clear to us that besides launching a third intifada of violent terror, the Palestinians' only real option was turning to the ICC against Israel.”"We believe that these proposed charges are the only means of deterring the Palestinians who are in a hurry to join the ICC,” said the NGO. “At this stage, only non-governmental organizations like Shurat Hadin can take action againt senior PA officials in the ICC.”

Sides are trying to save peace talks, PA negotiator says-Saeb Erekat tells Israeli TV that negotiations will ‘crash’ unless Netanyahu negotiates based on 1967 borders-By Yifa Yaakov April 6, 2014, 10:47 pm 7-The Times of Israel
Israeli and Palestinian officials expressed a desire to return to peace talks Sunday, albeit with each side saying the ball was in the other’s court to revive the 8-month-old negotiations.Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said it was up to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “stand tall,” and agree to negotiate based on the 1967 borders.“I don’t think it’s in the interest of Israel to have a crash, it’s absolutely not in our interest to have a crash, it’s not in the interest of the US,” he told Israel’s Channel 2 on Sunday, adding that the sides were “trying to save” the peace talks.“Does [Netanyahu] want to go the path of punishment, showing them who’s strong or not, or does he want to make history by going the path of [the] two-state solution?” Erekat asked, referring to media reports that Israel would impose sanctions on the Palestinians should talks fall apart.Earlier in the day, Netanyahu told his cabinet that Israel was willing to continue talking. But he warned that Israel would not negotiate under any conditions.“Unilateral steps on their part will be met with unilateral steps on our part,” Netanyahu said. “We are ready to continue the talks but not at any price.”Erekat said he believed Israel had seriously misinterpreted Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s move to apply to 15 international treaty organizations for membership, which Jerusalem said was tantamount to breaching the terms of the negotiations by applying to UN-related bodies.Erekat also said Israel had continuously compromised the talks by failing to demonstrate a genuine commitment to peace.“Abbas did not sign for 50 suicide bombers to go to Israel, he did not sign to shoot at Israelis, President Abbas signed conventions to protect women’s rights, human rights, children’s rights, the rule of law … elimination of all forms of racial discrimination, [and] respecting religious rights,” Erekat said, stating that this move was hardly grounds for “punishment” by Netanyahu.Following last week’s breakdown, US Secretary of State John Kerry voiced impatience with all sides, saying the US would re-evaluate its role as a mediator.Still, Israeli and Palestinian negotiators were expected to meet late Sunday with US mediator Martin Indyk in a bid to get the talks back on track. Both sides have engaged in finger-pointing since talks appeared to break down last week.On Sunday, Abbas spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh accused Israel of taking “unilateral steps to thwart the peace process,” according to a report by the Palestinian Ma’an news outlet.Finance Minister Yair Lapid, one of the most outspoken proponents of negotiations with the Palestinians, wrote on his Facebook page Friday that the Palestinians’ actions had put the talks in danger.“ Abbas’s “conduct over the past 24 hours raises serious doubt about whether he is really interested in reaching an agreement,” wrote Lapid, whose party is the second largest in Netanyahu’s coalition. On Sunday, Erekat insisted that the Palestinian negotiating team was making persistent efforts to save the peace process. Abbas, he said, had already agreed to recognize Israel and its right to exist in peace and security in the 1967 borders, side-by-side with a Palestinian state. He had even agreed to land swaps and, the demilitarization of the Palestinian state and the presence of third-party observers, as well as a “just and agreed solution” to the issue of Palestinian refugees.“What else do we have to give you?” Erekat asked, denouncing Israeli leaders for failing to “say a word” to the Israeli public in support of the two-state solution.“It’s about needs. I’m not doing Israelis a favor when I say I want a ‘soft landing.’ I want to reach an agreement with them. I’m doing my people the favor – the Palestinians need peace more than anybody else. Nobody stands to lose more from the failure of this process than the Palestinians, and no one stands to gain more from the success of this peace process than the Palestinians. And I hope and pray that the Israelis will feel the same way.”Erekat said that in the latest round of talks, restarted by Kerry in July, Washington had done “what nobody has done before” in terms of the “commitment, efforts, investments” Kerry and Indyk had made in the process.Times of Israel staff and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Liberman calls for new elections over freeing prisoners-In New York, foreign minister says new government is needed, to return to talks but avoid Palestinian ‘blackmail’-By Yifa Yaakov April 6, 2014, 5:48 pm 5-The Times of Israel

Israel’s foreign minister called Sunday for new Knesset elections, saying a return to the polls was preferable to freeing Palestinian prisoners for new peace talks. The shock statement by Avigdor Liberman, whose Yisrael Beytenu party ran on a joint list with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud in last year’s elections, came less than a week after peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians collapsed when Israel refused to release a fourth round of prisoners and the Palestinian Authority applied for membership in 15 UN and international treaties.Speaking at a conference sponsored by The Jerusalem Post in New York, Liberman said freeing terrorists was “no longer an option” for Israel. The foreign minister said he and Yisrael Beytenu would prefer new elections to going ahead with the “grand bargain” Netanyahu was ready to approve last week.Liberman said the stalemate between Israel and the Palestinians could be resolved in three possible ways: returning to a deal which would release terrorists, forming a new coalition without elections which would impose new conditions, or holding new elections. He said the first two options were “unacceptable” to his party. The tripartite package deal between Jerusalem, Ramallah and Washington had stipulated that Israel would release a fourth and final round of Palestinian prisoners, along with hundreds of other prisoners of Israel’s choosing, in exchange for the extension of peace talks until the end of 2014 and the release of convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard by the United States in time for Passover eve.
The Palestinians, however, said the 27 prisoners in the fourth round – among them 14 Arab Israelis – would have to be released before an extension could be discussed, as Israel had pledged months ago to free them. In return, the Palestinians had sworn not to make any unilateral appeals to international bodies. Once it was clear that Israel would not release the prisoners, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas made a unilateral move that threw the peace talks into disarray — a televised application to 15 international treaties on behalf of the Palestinian state.Liberman said Sunday that Abbas’s unilateral move amounted to “blackmail.” He said that after such a “dramatic and one-sided move,” Israel could no longer consider the now-irrelevant package deal an option and release hundreds of prisoners.According to a report on Israel’s Channel 2 news, citing an Israeli source Liberman was responding to an American request for Israel to return to negotiations and to releasing prisoners while ignoring Abbas’s applications to the international treaties.Though the talks seemed all but dead over the weekend, on Saturday the sides agreed to meet again in a last-ditch effort to revive negotiations. The foreign minister said that of the three options he had set out, he preferred the third, as a new coalition was “not an option” and nor was a deal that would free terrorists.“I support negotiations with the Palestinians. We’re ready for any kind of discussion, not ready for blackmail,” Liberman said.Though he said he was willing to negotiate with the Palestinians, Liberman said the Palestinian Authority wasn’t a real political entity to negotiate with. Instead, Israel’s negotiating partners were “Fatahland” in the West Bank and “Hamastan” in the Gaza Strip. He said that the “real solution” to the demographic crisis facing Israel was to “bring all Jews to Israel” – as many as possible, including from New York. He said the mass emigration from the former Soviet Union proved Jewish immigrants were a demographic asset to Israel.Later in his address, Liberman said Israel’s position in the international arena was “stable.” He added that the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) threat against Israel, a “bastion of Western values in the Middle East,” was “exaggerated.”He also said he hoped the rift between the US and Russia over the latter’s annexation of the southern Crimean region from the Ukraine would not damage the cooperation between the two countries on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Syria, as well as the Iranian nuclear threat. In response to Liberman’s speech, some politicians from the Israeli left said his speech reflected the Netanyahu government’s “intransigence,” while others agreed new elections were more a necessity than a threat.Opposition leader and Labor party head Isaac Herzog, who said on Sunday morning that a new coalition should be built in light of the fruitless peace talks under Netanyahu, responded to Liberman’s speech by saying he would welcome new elections.“In light of the continued failure of the current government in each and every area, new elections would not be a threat — they would give hope,” Herzog said.Earlier Sunday, Herzog had invited Finance Minister Yair Lapid’s Yesh Atid party and Justice Minister Tzipi Livni’s Hatnua to break away from the Netanyahu-led coalition and join him in a “coalition for peace” which would also include the ultra-Orthodox, with whom Herzog has forged an unlikely alliance. After Liberman’s speech, Herzog repeated his invitation to Lapid and Livni to “draw their conclusions” from the foreign minister’s message and leave the coalition.Meretz head Zahava Gal-on expressed similar sentiments, saying that “Liberman, in his statements, reveals the face of the Israeli government’s intransigence.”Gal-on said the speech had exposed Liberman as a “violator of commitments” who “serially” opposed peace overtures.“Maybe it really would be better to return to the polls and get rid of this bad government,” she said.Marissa Newman contributed to this report.

Pro-Russia protesters seize Ukraine buildings, Kiev blames Putin
By Lina Kushch and Thomas Grove 1 hour ago-APR 6,14-Yahoonews

DONETSK/KIEV, Ukraine (Reuters) - Pro-Russian protesters seized state buildings in three east Ukrainian cities on Sunday, triggering accusations from the pro-European government in Kiev that President Vladimir Putin was orchestrating "separatist disorder".The protesters stormed regional government buildings in the industrial hub of Donetsk and security service offices in nearby Luhansk, waving Russian flags and demanding a Crimea-style referendum on joining Russia.Protesters also later seized the regional administrative building in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city, Interfax news agency reported. All three cities lie close to Ukraine's border with Russia.Interior Minister Arsen Avakov vowed to restore order in eastern Ukraine without using violence and also accused Ukraine's ousted president Viktor Yanukovich, whose political base was in Donetsk, of conspiring with Putin to fuel tensions."Putin and Yanukovich ordered and paid for the latest wave of separatist disorder in the east of the country. The people who have gathered are not many but they are very aggressive," Avakov said in a statement on his Facebook page."The situation will come back under control without bloodshed. That is the order to law enforcement officers, it's true. But the truth is that no one will peacefully tolerate the lawlessness of provocateurs."Acting President Oleksander Turchinov called an emergency meeting of security chiefs in Kiev and took personal control of the situation, the parliamentary press service said.Mainly Russian-speaking eastern Ukraine has seen a sharp rise in tensions since Yanukovich's overthrow in February and the advent of an interim government in Kiev that backs closer ties with the European Union.Russia has branded the new government illegitimate and has annexed Ukraine's Crimea region, citing threats to its Russian-speaking majority - a move that has sparked the biggest standoff between Moscow and the West since the end of the Cold War.

REFERENDUM DEMAND

Around 1,500 people protested in Donetsk on Sunday before breaking into the regional administration building, where they hung a Russian flag from a second-floor balcony, a Reuters witness said. Protesters outside cheered and chanted "Russia! Russia!".In the Luhansk protest, Ukrainian television said three people had been injured. Police could not confirm the report.Talking to the crowd over a loudspeaker, protest leaders in Donetsk said they wanted regional lawmakers to convene an emergency meeting to discuss a vote on joining Russia like the one in Ukraine's Crimea region that led to its annexation."Deputies of the regional council should convene before midnight and take the decision to carry out a referendum," one of the protest leaders said, without identifying himself.A local Internet portal streamed footage from the seized building, showing people entering and exiting freely. Soviet-era music was being played over loudspeakers outside. The building houses the offices of Serhiy Taruta, a steel baron recently appointed by the interim government in Kiev as governor of a region with close economic and historical ties to Russia."Around 1,000 people took part (in the storming of the building), mostly young people with their faces covered," said Ihor Dyomin, a spokesman for Donetsk local police."Around 100 people are now inside the building and are barricading the building," he added. In Luhansk, Reuters television showed images of hundreds of people outside the state security services building and a policeman in riot armor being carried away on a stretcher. Ukrainian television said the Luhansk protesters were demanding the release of people detained by security services in recent days as well as a referendum on joining Russia."We don't want to join the EU, we don't want to join NATO. We want our children to live in peace," an unnamed woman told Ukraine's Channel Five in Luhansk.Ukraine's state security services said on Saturday they had detained 15 people in Luhansk suspected of planning to overthrow the authorities and had confiscated hundreds of rifles, grenades and petrol bombs.Pro-Russian demonstrators have held rallies in recent weeks in several eastern Ukrainian cities, not far from a border where Moscow has assembled tens of thousands of troops.(Writing by Thomas Grove; Editing by Gareth Jones)

Jordan king to hold Syria talks in Russia on Wednesday
APR 6,14-Yahoonews

Amman (AFP) - Jordan's King Abdullah II is to travel to Moscow on Wednesday for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the Syrian conflict, after visits to the Vatican and Austria, the palace said. The king will stop Monday in the Vatican to meet with Pope Francis, who is to visit Jordan as part of a Holy Land tour in May, before heading to Austria on Tuesday. He will then travel to Moscow for talks with Putin on the devastating three-year war in Syria, an ally of Russia, the palace said in a statement."The talks will focus on bilateral cooperation and Middle East developments, particularly the Syrian crisis," it said. The conflict has killed more than 150,000 people, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, while half the population is estimated to have fled their homes.Jordan is hosting more than 500,000 Syrian refugees, straining its infrastructure and finances.King Abdullah has said the conflict in neighbouring Syria and the rise of extremism there are his country's primary concerns.More than 100,000 refugees in Jordan live in cramped conditions in the Zaatari desert camp in the north of the country.Since opening two years ago, Zaatari near the border with Syria has been the scene of several protests, mainly over poor living conditions. On Saturday, a refugee was killed and dozens of people, mostly Jordanian policemen, were injured when rioting broke out in the camp.During a May 24-26 tour of Israel, Jordan and the Palestinian territories, the pope is expected to meet with Syrian and Palestinian refugees, according to the Vatican.

Mosquito-borne virus arrives in Dominican Republic
April 4, 2014 6:26 PM-Yahoonews

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) — Health authorities in the Dominican Republic have reported the first outbreak of a mosquito-borne virus that has spread quickly in the Caribbean in the weeks since it was first detected in the region.Health Minister Freddy Hidalgo says blood samples analyzed by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control confirmed the first cases in the country of the virus known as chikungunya.Health officials said Friday that 150-200 cases have been treated for symptoms since the first incidence was detected March 22. Most were in and around the town of Nigua, west of the capital.Chikungunya is found mainly in Africa and Asia. It is rarely fatal but can cause fever, rash, fatigue and intense muscle and joint pain. The first Caribbean cases were detected in December in French St. Martin.

U.S. military satellite launched after 15-year hold
By Irene Klotz April 3, 2014 3:28 PM-YahooNews

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (Reuters) - A U.S. military weather satellite, refurbished after more than a decade in storage, blasted off aboard an unmanned Atlas 5 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California on Thursday, a live webcast of the launch showed. The sleek, 191-foot-tall (58-meter) rocket, built by United Launch Alliance, lifted off at 10:46 a.m. EDT to put the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program or DMSP spacecraft into a 530-mile-high orbit passing over Earth's poles. United Launch Alliance is a partnership of Lockheed Martin Corp and Boeing Co.The $518 million satellite, known as DMSP-19 and built by Lockheed Martin, joins six other operational DMSP satellites already in orbit. The U.S. Air Force was prepared to launch DMSP-19 about 15 years ago, but the satellites in orbit were lasting much longer than expected so it went into storage instead, said Scott Larrimore, weather program director at the Air Force's Space and Missile Systems Center in Los Angeles. The same fate may await the 20th and final DMSP satellite, which is being built now and targeted to launch in 2020. The Air Force, however, is mulling whether to fly it at all or launch it early to avoid costly storage fees, among other options, Larrimore told reporters during a pre-launch conference call on March 27.That discussion is part of a larger effort to reassess military space programs in an attempt to cut costs, take advantage of new technologies and partner with other agencies when possible, he added. The U.S. Air Force already shares data with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and will be stepping up the partnership in a new generation of weather satellites designed to serve both military and civilian needs. It also is looking into a supplemental satellite program that can fly on smaller rockets, such as Orbital Sciences Corp's Minotaur.DMSP-19, which is designed to last five years, is equipped with visible light and infrared cameras to image clouds - day and night - and sensors to measure precipitation, temperatures and soil moisture. The DMSP satellites also collect data about the oceans, solar storms that affect Earth and other global meteorological conditions." Weather is a vital element of well-planned missions," said Lockheed Martin program director Sue Stretch. "High winds limit aircraft; storms threaten ships; and low-visibility can alter troop movements. The data the DMSP provides is essential to mission success."(Editing by Matthew Lewis)

U.S. Navy testing more sophisticated pilotless helicopters
By David Alexander April 5, 2014 12:05 AM-YahooNews

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The helicopter kicked up a cloud of freshly fallen snow that partly obscured the ground below, but despite the poor visibility, it gently touched down in a landing that was unremarkable except for the fact no one was at the controls. The helicopter, filmed during testing by the Naval Research Laboratory, was piloted by a 100-pound (45-kg) sensor and software package that officials said can turn any rotary-winged aircraft into a virtually autonomous drone able to fly with minimal input from the Marine Corps troops it was designed to serve.Rear Admiral Matthew Klunder, chief of Naval Research, said the sensor and software pack is "truly leap-ahead technology" that will let a Marine with no flight experience issue landing instructions to a cargo helicopter via tablet computer after just a few minutes of training. Klunder, who will preview the technology for industry and military leaders at a conference in Washington on Tuesday, said the aim of the project was to give troops a simple tool for battlefield resupply, reducing the casualties inherent in using ground convoys to deliver food, water and weapons. An Army study of data from 2003 to 2007 showed that one person was killed or wounded for every 24 fuel resupply convoys in Afghanistan and one was killed or wounded for every 29 water resupply convoys.Marines have used another unmanned cargo helicopter system, K-MAX, to shift millions of pounds of food, water and other gear in Afghanistan. But officials said K-MAX requires detailed planning, preparation of the landing site and a highly trained operator who controls the flight from beginning to end.Brigadier General Kevin Killea, the head of the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory, said the new system can be instructed to touch down at an unprepared landing site and will figure out the details on its own using its sensors, including electro-optical, infrared and light detection and ranging, or LIDAR."It's taking unmanned aerial systems to the next level by introducing autonomy, and autonomy that works," Killea told reporters."In order to do that," he added, "you have to solve the problem of degraded visual environments," such as those caused by blowing snow or sand."This technology has to solve that problem in order for it to work," Killea said. "You can't have an 80 percent solution with an autonomous system going into an unprepared site. It's got to have it figured out."The tablet computer interface has a topographical map overlay and buttons around the sides that allow the user to issue instructions or communicate with the craft, giving it permission to land or creating no-fly zones to tell the chopper to avoid danger areas. Otherwise the craft navigates on its own.Officials said the system had been tested on three different types of helicopters so far. Two different prototypes of the technology module are being developed, one by Lockheed Martin and the other by Aurora Flight Sciences. The project is funded for another four years, so researchers hope to use that time to expand the technology's autonomous capabilities."Right now, ... the way we have this set up, it's asking for permission to land. I want it to ... eventually tell the Marine, 'This is where I'm landing and unless you don't like that, leave me alone,'" said Max Snell, the program manager for the project.Klunder said if an emergency arose, researchers could have the system ready to field within a year or two."If that need was there and required," he said, "the technology is what's important and we've proved that it works."(Reporting by David Alexander; Editing by Mohammad Zargham)

Scientists dismiss claims that Yellowstone volcano about to erupt
By Laura Zuckerman April 3, 2014 7:57 PM-YahooNews

(Reuters) - Yellowstone National Park assured guests and the public on Thursday that a super-volcano under the park was not expected to erupt anytime soon, despite an alarmist video that claimed bison had been seen fleeing to avoid such a calamity.Yellowstone officials, who fielded dozens of calls and emails since the video went viral this week following an earthquake in the park, said the video actually shows bison galloping down a paved road that leads deeper into the park. Contrary to online reports, it's a natural occurrence and not the end of the world," park spokeswoman Amy Bartlett said.Assurances by Yellowstone officials and government geologists that the ancient super-volcano beneath the park is not due to explode for eons have apparently done little to quell fears among the thousands who have viewed recent video postings of the thundering herd.Commentary with one of the clips by a self-described survivalist wearing camouflage, dark sunglasses and a black watch cap suggests the wildlife exodus may be tied to "an imminent eruption here at Yellowstone."The 4.8 magnitude earthquake that struck early Sunday near the Norris Geyser Basin in the northwest section of Yellowstone, which spans 3,472 square miles of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho, caused no injuries or damages and did not make any noticeable alterations to the landscape, geologists said.Though benign by seismic standards, it was the largest to rattle Yellowstone since a 4.8 quake in February 1980 and it occurred near an area of ground uplift tied to the upward movement of molten rock in the super-volcano, whose mouth, or caldera, is 50 miles long and 30 miles wide. But neither the quake, the largest among hundreds that have struck near the geyser basin in the last seven months, nor the uplift suggest an eruption sooner than tens of thousands of years, said Peter Cervelli, associate director for science and technology at the U.S. Geological Survey's Volcano Science Center in California."The chance of that happening in our lifetimes is exceedingly insignificant," said Cervelli, a scientist with the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory.Cervelli said the area of uplift that scientists have been tracking since August is rising at a rate of between 10 centimeters (4 inches) and 15 centimeters a year. Geologists who tracked uplift in the same area from 1996 to 2003 also saw elevated seismic activity, he said.(Editing by Dan Whitcomb and Steve Orlofsky)

Search and recovery continues for Malaysian flight MH370-Media Release
7 April 2014—am-JACC

Up to nine military planes, three civil planes and 14 ships will assist in today's search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.The search area is expected to be approximately 234,000 square kilometres.Good weather is expected throughout the day with showers in the afternoon although this is not expected to affect the search.ADV Ocean Shield is continuing investigations in its own area.HMS Echo is en route to assist the Chinese vessel Haixun 01, which detected pulse signals in the Indian Ocean. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau continues to refine the area where the aircraft entered the water based on continuing ground-breaking and multi-disciplinary technical analysis of satellite communication and aircraft performance, passed from the international air crash investigative team comprising analysts from Malaysia, the United States, the UK, China and Australia.

Report: MH370 skirted Indonesian radar, Malaysian source says
April 6, 2014UPDATED: April 06, 2014 05:51 pm--maylamailonline

MH370.KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 — Fresh information gleaned from radar data now reportedly shows that the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 had skirted Indonesian airspace likely to avoid detection on March 8.In a breaking news report on CNN this afternoon, senior international correspondent Nick Robertson said this was confirmed by a “senior Malaysian government official”, and suggested the possibility of a more sinister reason behind MH370’s disappearance a month ago.“What this official says is that after the Malaysia Airlines flight 370 took that left-hand turn, deviated from its path to Beijing, flew across Malaysia... the official now says that they know from looking at radar data from neighbouring countries that the flight then skirted the radar airspace of Indonesia,” he said in his report from Kuala Lumpur. The Boeing 777’s flight path clearly showed that someone on the plane was piloting the aircraft in this manner to avoid detection from Indonesian radars, he added, citing the Malaysian source. The plane was then deliberately flown around northern Indonesia instead of flying over the country before it headed in a southerly direction towards the Indian Ocean where a multi-nation hunt is currently looking for it, Robertson said. The senior correspondent said the new information could now help investigators build a psychological profile on the flight crew aboard MH370, especially the two pilots manning the cockpit. In an immediate reaction to the news, CNN aviation specialist Peter Goelz said this further confirms that “what was going on in the cockpit was deliberate”.He pointed out in a telephone call with CNN that it takes a considerable amount of skill and knowledge of the airspace to pilot a plane in such a manner.“Its not something that’s just done on the spur of the moment. It would have been planned so it is very disturbing but it is starting to form a pattern that is pointing to increase emphasis to the cockpit,” he said.Goelz noted, however, that investigators have so far not been able to obtain any leads in their probe on the backgrounds of the aircraft’s pilots, Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah and first officer Fariq Ab Hamid.

Yesterday, a US official reportedly said that Zaharie had loaded several alternate routes into his home-built flight simulator to study possible safe action plans he could opt for in cases of in-flight emergencies.CNN reported the unnamed official as saying that the searches, initially regarded as “curious”, later turned out to be what an experienced and professional pilot would do.The official who is said to have knowledge of the on-going probe on the plane’s disappearance, was also quoted saying that no conclusive leads could be gleaned from Zaharie’s simulator. There was no “we got it” information, the international news channel said in its online report today, quoting the official.“Its surprising that nothing was found on the flight simulator,” Goelz said today, before adding that the new information on MH370’s flight path should now shift the focus on the investigation to the flight crew. The Beijing-bound aircraft took off from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 12.41am on March 8 and disappeared barely an hour later when it lost contact with the Subang Air Traffic Control (ATC).At the time, the plane’s last known location was 120 nautical miles off the coast of Kota Baru in Kelantan.Investigators, which include a massive team of experts from around the world, have so far concluded that the aircraft carrying 239 people had “ended” in the Indian Ocean, based on satellite and radar data. But this is hundreds of miles away from MH370’s original flight path to Beijing. It was concluded on March 15 — one week after MH370 left radar screens on March 8 — that the aircraft’s diverted flight path was the result of “deliberate action” by someone on board the plane with aviation knowledge and experience.Since then, the final words that came from the cockpit, which is believed to be uttered by co-pilot Fariq Ab Hamid, became the subject of much scrutiny. Fariq, and flight captain Zaharie, became central to investigations surrounding the reason that MH370 was taken off its original flight path to Beijing.

ANGUS HOUSTON IPRESS CONFERENCE PART-SUN APR 6,14-JACC
Question: Just to clarify just what you were talking about then, the two detections in the area; so the boat picked up something, then came back and found the second one in a separate area, is that correct—two kilometres away? Is that what you were saying? And further, just can you expand on the Ocean Shield, what it [indistinct].

Angus Houston: The first detection was about, 36 hours ago, not last night, the night before. And I believe it was just a quick acoustic detection and then nothing. The Haixun Zero One stayed in the area investigating the site at which this had occurred. And yesterday afternoon, Perth time, there was another acoustic detection. That was less than two kilometres from the original detection. Now the fact that we have two detections, they are slightly apart in terms of distance, but in an ocean that size, two kilometres is not a large distance. And of course, they are separated in time over a period of 24 hours. The second transmission was—or should I say acoustic event, was for about 90 seconds. So we obviously have to investigate it fully and we will do that, and we will let you know at the completion of the process what the outcome is. I mean, we are not going to hide anything from any of you.

Question: If I could ask you how long do you believe it will take for them HMS Echo and the Ocean Shield to be able to get into position and investigate this further? And is this location within that southern sector that you have now defined as being a more credible lead as to where the flight went down?

Angus Houston: In answer to your last question, the area is in the high probability area, yes. The second thing is, in terms of how long it will take the two ships to get there, HMAS Echo is closer, she will get there, I would think, fairly quickly. I'll take advice from Commodore Leavy, but in terms of the Ocean Shield, she is in the process of exploiting another acoustic event which we need to look at to determine if there is anything in that. So this is a painstaking process and if we get any lead whatsoever, we investigate it, and if it is significant, we continue to investigate it until such time as we say, well, no, that is not connected to MH370. So, it is something that takes time. We are dealing with very deep water. We are dealing with an environment where sometimes you can get false indications. There are lots of noises in the ocean and sometimes the acoustic equipment can rebound, echo, if you like, and all sorts of issues around that. Peter, would you like to say anything more?Peter Leavy: Just in terms of the timing, we believe HMS Echo is approximately 14 hours from that position. And as Air Chief Marshal Houston just mentioned, Ocean Shield is herself investigating another acoustic detection that she's made. And once she's completed that activity, if it's decided to move her down, and that proves to be not the beacon up there, it will be approximately two hours to recover her towed pinger equipment. It's approximately 24 hours for her to steam down there and another two to three hours to redeploy the equipment. So it will be over a day before Ocean Shield is there.

Chinese, Australian ships try to verify potential 'pings' from Malaysia jet
By Lincoln Feast and Swati Pandey 5 hours ago-apr 6,14-YAHOONEWS

SYDNEY/PERTH, Australia (Reuters) - Chinese and Australian ships hunting for a missing Malaysia Airlines jetliner have picked up separate acoustic signals in different parts of a vast Indian Ocean search area and are trying to verify if one could be from the plane's black box recorders.Australian search authorities said on Sunday a Chinese patrol vessel, the Haixun 01, had picked up a fleeting "ping" signal twice in recent days in waters west of Perth, near where investigators believe Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 went down on March 8.More planes and ships were being sent to assist in that area, but meanwhile, Australia's HMAS Ocean Shield had reported a separate "acoustic event" some 300 nautical miles away. The Ocean Shield is carrying sophisticated U.S. Navy equipment designed to pick up signals sent from the black boxes, which may hold the key to why the aircraft ended up thousands of kilometers off course."We are treating each of them seriously. We need to ensure before we leave any of those areas that this does not have any connection with MH370," Retired Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston, head of the Australian agency coordinating the operation, told a media conference in Perth.A black box detector deployed by the Haixun 01 picked up the signal with a frequency of 37.5kHz per second - the same as emitted by flight recorders - at about 25 degrees south and 101 degrees east, Xinhua reported on Saturday.Australian search authorities said such a signal would be consistent with a black box, but both they and Xinhua stressed there was no conclusive evidence linking it to the Boeing 777."The 37.5kHz is the specific frequency that these locator pingers operate on," said Anish Patel, president of Sarasota, Florida-based Dukane Seacom, which made the black box locator."It's a very unique frequency, typically not found in background ocean noise," such as whales or other marine mammals, he told Reuters.

SOUTHERN AREA BACK IN FOCUS

Houston said analysis of earlier satellite data had again led investigators to refine the search area towards the southern part of the corridor."The area of the highest probability is, what we think, the southern part where Haixun 01 is operating. That is why we are really interested in the two acoustic encounters that Haixun 01 has had."The water was around 4,500 meters (14,800 ft) deep in that part of the search area, Houston added.Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said he was "hopeful but by no means certain" that the reported pulse signals were related to MH370."This is the most difficult search in human history. We are searching for an aircraft which is at the bottom of a very deep ocean and it is a very, very wide search area," Abbott told reporters in Tokyo, where he is on a visit.Up to a dozen planes and 13 ships will be scouring three separate areas about 2,000 km (1,240 miles) northwest of Perth, Australia's Joint Agency Coordination Centre said on Sunday.

SONAR EQUIPMENT

Authorities have not ruled out mechanical problems as a cause of the plane's disappearance, but say the evidence, including loss of communications, suggests it was deliberately diverted.Malaysian authorities have faced heavy criticism, particularly from China, for mismanaging the search and holding back information. Most of the 227 passengers were Chinese.Malaysia said on Saturday it had launched a formal investigation into the plane's disappearance that would include experts from Australia, the United States, China, Britain and France.Normally, a formal air safety investigation is not launched until wreckage is found. But there have been concerns that Malaysia's informal investigations to date have lacked the legal standing of an official inquiry convened under U.N. rules.Under International Civil Aviation Organisation rules, the country where the aircraft is registered leads the investigation when the incident takes place in international waters.Malaysian Defense Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the investigation would comprise three groups: one would examine maintenance records, structures and systems; an "operations" group would study flight recorders, operations and meteorology; and a "medical and human factors" group would look into psychology, pathology and survival.(Additional reporting by Tim Hepher in PARIS, Siva Govindasamy and Niluksi Koswanage in KUALA LUMPUR and Jane Wardell in SYDNEY; Editing by Mark Bendeich and Michael Urquhart)
