Israel to build tougher fence near West Bank flashpoint city; 3 Palestinians die in violence-By Daniella Cheslow, The Associated Press | The Canadian Press – NOV 26,15-YAHOONEWS
JERUSALEM - Three Palestinians were shot and killed in separate clashes with Israeli security forces in the West Bank on Thursday as Israel announced plans to strengthen a fence near the flashpoint city of Hebron in an effort to contain a two-month spate of violence. In the first incident, the Israeli military said a clash erupted after troops raided the village of Qattana overnight to search for ammunition and arrest suspected assailants. The Palestinians hurled firebombs and stones at troops, according to the army.Yehya Taha, 21, was shot in the head and later died, according to Palestinian Health Ministry spokesman Mohammed Awawdeh.Later in the day, Israeli border guards shot and killed a Palestinian attacker wielding a knife near the West Bank city of Nablus. Police spokeswoman Luba Samri said the man got out of a taxi near a military post and began running toward officers, brandishing a knife. No Israelis were hurt in that attack, Samri added. She did not say how close the man got to the Israeli forces. The Palestinian Health Ministry identified the assailant as 51-year-old Samir Seresi.Late Thursday, it said a 21-year-old Palestinian was killed in clashes with soldiers near Hebron in the West Bank. The Israeli military said the Palestinian was about to throw a firebomb at passing traffic when soldiers opened fire. The deaths were the latest in a two-month wave of violence. Since mid-September, 19 Israelis have died in Palestinian attacks, mostly stabbings and shootings. At least 94 Palestinians have also died, including 58 said by Israel to be attackers. The others died in clashes with Israeli forces. In an effort to quell the violence, Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon announced Wednesday that Israel will fortify an existing fence west of Hebron, a southern West Bank city that has been a flashpoint in the current unrest. Yaalon said attackers have managed to get through the structure in recent weeks."We intend to bring a far more massive barrier there...in light of the bitter experience with the physical damage to this barrier," Yaalon said. "I definitely identify this area as a weak point, from both a security and criminal perspective."The approximately 25-mile (40-kilometre) stretch of fence is part of a sprawling West Bank separation barrier that Israel has built over the last decade or so. Israel says the structure is a security measure meant to keep attackers out of its cities. But the Palestinians say the structure is a land grab, since it places sections of the West Bank on the "Israeli" side. The Palestinians claim all of the West Bank for part of a future state.Yaalon told lawmakers that the project will take a year. The fence will have similar technology as the recently constructed Israeli fence on the Egyptian frontier meant to prevent infiltration by militants and African migrants. Egypt is struggling to put down an Islamic insurgency in the volatile northern Sinai Peninsula, which borders Israel. Also Thursday, Israeli troops seized eight public transportation buses in the West Bank city of Nablus, according to drivers at the Al-Tamimi company. The military said the buses were intended to ferry Palestinians to checkpoints for demonstrations against Israeli troops.Despite heightened security, according to a senior military officer, the army has proposed easing restrictions on Palestinians and providing ammunition to Palestinian security forces to help ease tensions and avert attacks by militants. Throughout the unrest, Palestinian security forces have maintained a longstanding system of security co-operation to help contain the violence. An Israeli official said government officials, however, have rejected the military's proposals. Both the officer and the official spoke on condition of anonymity because the offer has not been made public. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he opposes confidence-building gestures to the Palestinians until the violence subsides.Israel says the unrest stems from incitement by Palestinian leaders. The Palestinians say it's rooted in frustrations over Israel's nearly half a century-long occupation. Palestinians also accuse Israel of using excessive force in suppressing violence. On Wednesday, Israel's parliament advanced a bill that would allow the jailing of minors younger than 14. Children as young as 11 have stabbed Israelis in the current unrest. The bill, announced on parliament's website, follows a law adopted in early November to toughen penalties against Palestinians for throwing rocks at civilians and security personnel. That law imposes a minimum sentence of three years on rock throwers, and can strip them and the parents of minors of losing social security benefits. The latest bill passed a preliminary vote, but would require further approvals to become law.
Coptic Pope set to arrive in Israel on rare visit-Spokesman says Tawadros will attend funeral of Archbishop Anba Abraham, head of Copts in Holy Land, ‘and nothing more’-By AFP November 26, 2015, 10:28 pm-THE TIMES OF ISRAEL
Egypt’s Coptic Pope Tawadros II left for Jerusalem on Thursday for the funeral of a senior cleric, the first visit by the head of Coptic Christians in decades, a church spokesman said.He will attend the funeral of Archbishop Anba Abraham, the head of the Coptic Church in the Holy Land, who died on Wednesday at the age of 73.Egyptian Copts were forbidden from visiting Israel by their late Pope Shenouda III in protest at Israel’s occupation of East Jerusalem.Shenouda passed away in 2012 after leading the ancient orthodox church for 40 years.“The visit is to attend the funeral and nothing more,” church spokesman Boulos Halim told AFP.“The position of the church remains unchanged, which is not going to Jerusalem without all our Egyptian (Muslim) brothers.”Despite the ban, hundreds of Egyptian Copts have visited Israel over the past few years during Easter.Tawadros II was elected in 2012 when he was 59 years old. He was previously an aide to his predecessor Shenouda III, replacing him when he died earlier this year after 40 years at the helm of the church.
CNN omits Israel from Middle East map-Graphic later replaced with a photo of the aftermath of a Syrian airstrike in Aleppo-By JTA November 27, 2015, 1:53 am
CNN posted a map on the CNNMoney feature on its website that replaced Israel with “Palestina.”The map was posted on Wednesday on the “Syria and the Middle East” section of the feature article “Beyond ISIS: 2016’s scariest geopolitical hot spots.”“Palestina” is a Spanish or Portuguese translation of Palestine. The image was taken from Getty Images’ iStock and is not a creation of CNN’s graphics team, according to the media watchdog HonestReporting, which first reported the map.The graphic was later replaced with a photo of the aftermath of a Syrian airstrike in Aleppo.“While we question how the error occurred at all, nonetheless we commend CNN for taking prompt action,” HonestReporting said in a statement on its webpage, saying that the switch came following its flagging of the map and “the complaints of many HonestReporting subscribers.”HonestReporting Managing Editor Simon Plosker wrote: “Whether it was an oversight or something more sinister, CNN’s illustration of the Middle East without Israel is completely unacceptable. At a time when the state’s very legitimacy is being called into question by vicious anti-Israel extremists, any message that Israel does not belong in the Middle East plays into this false narrative and feeds those like the Iranian ayatollahs who wish to see Israel erased from the map.”In January, veteran CNN anchor Jim Clancy resigned after a series of Twitter posts in which he mocked pro-Israel tweeters on a thread discussing the Charlie Hebdo massacre.
Business as usual’ for IAF in Syria, despite Russian missiles-Officer says Israel can still strike targets ‘without notification,’ but stresses constant coordination with Moscow-By Judah Ari Gross and Times of Israel staff November 26, 2015, 8:43 pm
Despite the Russian deployment of an advanced missile defense system in Syria, the Israel Air Force will still operate as normal, thanks to constant coordination between Tel Aviv and Moscow, a senior military official said on Thursday.Following an intensive, nation-wide aerial exercise, which included thousands of sorties from several bases and involved both fighter jets and attack helicopters, the officer simultaneously boasted that “we do not notify anyone in advance” of Israeli strikes, while also stressing that there are mechanisms in place to avoid conflict with Russia. In addition, the Israeli Navy made its own display of strength on Thursday, successfully testing its new “Barak 8” missile defense system, which operates at a shorter distance than the recently deployed Russian S-400, but can be installed on naval ships as well as on the ground.Israel is walking a tight rope with Russia in Syria. While Israel has made it clear that it will carry out strikes against Hezbollah and the Syrian Army in order to defend Israeli sovereignty, the IAF must be careful to avoid harming Russian troops or being too aggressive in its strikes against Syrian forces, who are being supported by Moscow.‘We know how to make sure that we don’t even come close. It’s just a question of picking up the phone and talking’The IAF officer told reporters at the Tel Nof air force base in Rehovot that an incident like the one between Turkey and Russia on Tuesday — in which a Russian Su-24M jet was shot down while allegedly over Turkish airspace — would not happen to Israel due to the close coordination between the countries. This was agreed in late September at the highest level of military, when IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gadi Eisenkot met his Russian counterpart in Moscow.“It’s quite a simple mechanism,” the officer said. “We know how to make sure that we don’t even come close. It’s just a question of picking up the phone and talking.”In response to the clash with Turkey, Russian President Vladmir Putin deployed the S-400 missile defense system, which is capable of detecting and shooting down aircraft from up to 400 kilometers (250 miles) away. This distance includes all of Syria, Cyprus and Lebanon, and nearly half of Israel. If the S-400 had been in place a week before, the Russian military would have been able to track the majority of the IAF’s airplanes taking part in the exercise. Only those aircraft operating south of Jerusalem would have been out of the radar system’s range.“The ease with which we could fly in enemy skies became very complicated. That which we know is there – we can handle relatively well – the question is what we don’t know is there,” the air force officer admitted.“The Russians are here. They’re a central player that cannot be ignored,” the officer said on Thursday. “We mainly want to be in a ‘Live and let live’ situation. Russia is not the enemy, on the contrary. Our planes are trying to avoid friction with the Russians, and they’re trying to avoid friction with us. In order to not bring pilots from either side to situation where a question arises we just steer clear.”However, he said, “We make sure we do our job.”
Palestinian killed, 5 hurt in West Bank clashes with IDF-Incident at refugee camp near Hebron brings Palestinian death toll to three in 24 hours-By Times of Israel staff November 26, 2015, 8:26 pm
A Palestinian man was killed and five others were wounded in a series of clashes with IDF forces in the West Bank on Thursday afternoon, according to Israeli and Palestinian reports.Khaled Jawabra, 20, was killed in a confrontation near the al-Aroub refugee camp, north of Hebron. He was the third Palestinian killed in clashes with security forces on Thursday, according to the Palestinians. Among that number is a man who tried to attack soldiers with a knife.Near Hebron, five Palestinians were wounded in clashes with a joint force of IDF soldiers and Border Police. According to the Palestinian news agency Ma’an, the Israeli security forces were using live fire. The Israel Police said in a statement that the Palestinians threw rocks and a Molotov cocktail at the troops. The military did not report any casualties or damage, nor did it not confirm that soldiers fired on the protesting Palestinians.Earlier Thursday, a Palestinian man tried to stab security forces at an army checkpoint outside the northern West Bank settlement of Tapuah, security officials said. The attacker was shot and killed during the attack, police said. No Israelis were injured.Overnight Wednesday, a 21-year-old Palestinian was killed in clashes that erupted when IDF troops raided the village of Katana, searching for ammunition and arresting suspected terrorists. Palestinians hurled firebombs and stones at the troops, the army said.Yehya Taha was shot in the head by Israeli troops and died later, according to Palestinian Health Ministry spokesman Mohammed Awawdeh.
EARTH WORSHIP
DEUTERONOMY 17:3-4
3 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;
4 And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel:
DEUTORONOMY 4:15-19
15 Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the LORD spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire:
16 Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,
17 The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air,
18 The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth:
19 And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.
2 KINGS 23:5
5 And he put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places round about Jerusalem; them also that burned incense unto Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of heaven.
Pope says 'catastrophic' if special interests block curbs on fossil fuels in climate talks-By Nicole Winfield And Tom Odula, The Associated Press | The Canadian Press – NOV 26,15-YAHOONEWS
NAIROBI, Kenya - Pope Francis is warning that it would be "catastrophic" if special interests get in the way of a global agreement to curb the fossil fuel emissions blamed for global warming at a meeting next week in Paris over climate change. In a speech to the African U.N. headquarters on Thursday, Francis said the Paris negotiations mark a crucial step in developing a new energy system that "corrects the dysfunctions and distortions" of the current model of development and fights poverty.Francis has made ecological concerns a hallmark of his nearly 3-year-old papacy. But on Thursday, he took particular aim at those who deny the science behind climate change. In the United States, that accounts for several Republican presidential candidates and lawmakers, who have opposed steps U.S. President Barack Obama has taken on his own to cut greenhouse gas emissions. He said: "It would be sad, and dare I say even catastrophic, were special interests to prevail over the common good and lead to manipulating information in order to protect their own plans and interests."
Commonwealth meeting is 'training camp' for Paris climate talks, says Dion-By Bruce Cheadle, The Canadian Press | The Canadian Press – NOV 26,15-YAHOONEWS
VALLETTA, Malta - Leaders of 53 Commonwealth countries are grappling with their own negotiations on addressing climate change in what Canada's foreign minister calls a "training camp" for next week's United Nations conference in France."You have the world in 53 nations here," Stephane Dion said Thursday shortly after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived in Malta for the three-day summit of Commonwealth heads of government."And the debates we have had since I came yesterday are very, let's say, lively. I'm sure they will be repeated in the next two weeks in Paris."French President Francois Hollande is to make an extraordinary address to the leaders here Friday in what appears to be the first appearance by a French head of state at the biennial Commonwealth meeting — a gathering of countries formerly under British rule.Hollande will arrive straight from Russia, where he was seeking to secure a common front in the military fight against Islamic militants. It seems likely he'll plumb that theme with the Commonwealth countries as well, but the reason for his unusual visit is to rally support for an international climate agreement.Dion's characterization of "lively" Commonwealth climate talks hints at the challenge ahead.India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the leader of the most populous Commonwealth country with an exponentially growing appetite for coal-fired electricity generation, is taking a pass on this year's Commonwealth meeting amid concerns that the developing subcontinent poses a major obstacle to a comprehensive climate deal.India's "coal minister" Piyush Goyal is on record saying the world's third-largest producer of greenhouse gases won't be constrained by emissions limits when developed countries have spent the past century pouring carbon into the Earth's atmosphere.Meanwhile, tiny Tuvalu — an archipelago of low-lying islands in the South Pacific — is in danger of being submerged by rising sea levels due to global warming.Negotiating the contradictions within the Commonwealth group of countries, said Dion, is "a very helpful training camp for Paris."He maintains that, while negotiations will be "intense," the two-week-long COP21 conference will end with "a unanimous, robust agreement that will be a step in the right direction to fight climate change."Trudeau arrived in Valletta after a stop in London with the goal of rallying Commonwealth support for a climate deal.He said Wednesday that both German Chancellor Angela Merkel and U.S. President Barack Obama asked him in recent meetings to lobby hard within the organization. That work began Thursday evening as Trudeau met with Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat at the Auberge de Castille, the presidential office.Malta, an island republic of less than half a million citizens in the Mediterranean Sea, is an historic migratory crossroad between North Africa and Italy. The current refugee crisis in the Middle East is literally lapping at its shores.Hollande's visit ensures Trudeau will be discussing Canada's role in fighting Islamic terrorism as well as climate change and matters of Commonwealth governance.Trudeau departed London on Thursday as British Prime Minister David Cameron was making the case in Parliament for an expanded air war over Syrian territory.Cameron told the British House of Commons that you can't "sub-contract" national security. His efforts to widen the British air war come as Trudeau is vowing to withdraw Canada's six CF-18 jets from the American-led bombing mission in Iraq and Syria.France has also upped its air war since the deadly terror attacks in Paris two weeks ago that claimed at least 130 lives.A senior Trudeau adviser, briefing reporters on the flight to Malta under agreement not to be named, said Cameron did not pressure Trudeau to reconsider his CF-18 decision when the two prime ministers met in London on Wednesday evening. In fact, the adviser said, not a single world leader has questioned Canada's pending withdrawal from the air war during the last two weeks of fevered international summitry.Dion said he's been consulting with Canada's allies and explaining that Canada "has better skills to offer the coalition.""The moment they understand that, they are very open to give us their suggestions about what Canada may do otherwise than deliver two per cent of the air strikes."

In Austria, Cameron says Britons 'not happy' with EU status quo-By The Associated Press | The Canadian Press – NOV 26,15-YAHOONEWS
VIENNA - British Prime Minister David Cameron said Thursday that his fellow citizens are "not happy" with the EU status quo, the relationship between countries using the euro and those — like his— with national currencies. In a statement after meeting Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann, Cameron also suggested that the 28-nation bloc needed to increase its economic competiveness and give more sovereignty to EU members.Britain plans to hold a referendum within two years on continued EU membership and is pushing for reforms within the bloc that reduce the authority of institutions at EU headquarters in Brussels.Austria is a supporter of an EU with strong central authority, but like other nations, views Britain as an important member of the union and is prepared to compromise on some issues dear to London to keep it within the bloc. The two countries share views on other issues, however. In the wake of the Paris attacks a week ago, Cameron called for a "stronger external EU border to protect our security with more effective screening and greater sharing of data between member states."While Austria is struggling to deal with the refugee influx, Britain has applied strict restrictions on would-be asylum seekers. But Cameron said both agreed for the need to a "comprehensive approach which tackles the (refugee) problem at source and stops migrants from making the perilous journey to Europe." That, he said, means more work with Turkey which hosts more Syrian refugees than any other country.

Drug addiction 'rampant,' says volunteer in wake of Ron Hynes death-CBC – NOV 26,15-YAHOO NEWS
Jeff Bourne didn't need to read Joel Thomas Hynes's pointed Facebook post about the grip of his uncle's addictions to realize there's a gap in the system for those trying to kick their drug dependence.Bourne, who runs U-Turn Drop-in Centre in Carbonear, said addiction in Newfoundland and Labrador is "rampant."He was responding to the comments made by Hynes, a recovering addict himself, who said his famed uncle Ron Hynes was killed by his addiction, even though he had been battling cancer.'It's getting worse everyday'-"I read [Thomas Hynes's post] and I got really teary eyed, and at the same time on Facebook I got an inbox message from a friend of mine that I've been dealing with now the last year and a half and he pretty much told me that he can't fight no more," Bourne told the St. John's Morning Show Thursday."He's at the end of his road."-While the provincial government has put money towards addictions and mental health services in recent years, Bourne said addicts are still falling through the cracks."It's getting worse everyday," said Bourne, who has operated the addictions counseling centre for four years."The age [of users] get younger and the severity of people using what they're using is getting worse day by day."More money-In Hynes's Facebook post, which has been shared widely, the musician, writer and actor demanded that the Newfoundland and Labrador government do more for those struggling with drugs."With all that money came more drugs than our little island could possibly cope with. And after all that nothing has been done — we're in a recession now for another ten years," wrote Hynes.Bourne believes money is a factor, but also points to the affect drug testing in Albert and offshore industry has on drug use."If you did a binge of cocaine for the first week you're home, well the second week it [kind of] goes out of your system," he said. "But if you smoke a draw of weed it takes 90 days for that to come out of your system."

Feds: California farm recalls produce used in Costco chicken salad linked to E. coli outbreak-By Olga R. Rodriguez, The Associated Press | The Canadian Press – NOV 26,15-YAHOONEWS
SAN FRANCISCO - A California farm is recalling a vegetable mix believed to be the source of E.coli in Costco chicken salad that has been linked to an outbreak that has sickened 19 people in seven states, the Food and Drug Administration said Thursday.Taylor Farms Pacific Inc. of Tracy, California, has recalled a mix of diced celery and onion used in Costco chicken salad and other foods containing celery "out of an abundance of caution," the FDA said in a statement. The foods range from Thai-style salads to packaged dinners and wraps, and they are sold at Costco, Target, Starbucks and many other outlets, the FDA said.Costco says it uses one supplier for those vegetables in the chicken salad sold in all its U.S. stores.A message left Thursday with Taylor Farms was not immediately returned.Costco, based in Issaquah, Washington, pulled the chicken salad off store shelves nationwide, posted signs in its stores and provided detailed purchase logs to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help it track who bought the product and where the salad ingredients came from.Six people got sick in Montana, five in Utah, four in Colorado, and one each in California, Missouri, Virginia and Washington state. The illness reports began on Oct. 6 and involved people from age 5 to 84, the CDC said.Health officials urged people who bought chicken salad at any U.S. Costco store on or before Nov. 20 to throw it away, even if no one has gotten sick. The strain of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli can be life-threatening, but no deaths have been reported. Five people have been hospitalized, including two with kidney failure.ymptoms of E. coli infection include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting. The incubation period is three to seven days from the time of exposure. The number of people sickened in the outbreak will likely grow over the next few weeks, even though the product has been removed from store shelves, the CDC said Wednesday.Health officials urge anyone with the symptoms, especially people who have eaten Costco chicken salad, to go to their doctor.

White House undergoes Thanksgiving Day lockdown after man draped in American flag jumps fence-By The Associated Press | The Canadian Press – NOV 26,15-YAHOONEWS
WASHINGTON - A man draped in an American flag climbed over the fence at the White House on Thursday, prompting a lockdown as the first family celebrated Thanksgiving. The man was immediately apprehended and taken into custody pending criminal charges, the Secret Service said in a statement. The incident took place about 2:45 p.m. EST.An image of a man atop a section of fence in front of the North Lawn was posted on the website of television station WJLA. Another image showed the man standing on the lawn with his arms raised in victory.A witness to the incident, Victoria Pena of Houston, said the man was standing with other people visiting the White House compound when he rushed toward the fence carrying what appeared to be a binder."I just heard him take a big, deep breath and whisper to himself, 'All right, let's do this' and he took off," Pena said. "It was chaotic. Everyone around us was yelling and kids were crying. It was pretty unexpected."Security personnel and guard dogs ran toward the man and he lay on the grass awaiting them, Pena said. The north and south fence lines at the White House were temporarily closed, Secret Service spokesman Robert Hoback said. In the hours after the incident, numerous armed security personnel were seen along the streets and sidewalks outside the executive mansion.President Barack Obama and his wife and daughters were spending the holiday at the White House. In May, the Secret Service added a second layer of steel spikes to the top of the fence following an incident the previous month in which a California man scaled the fence and got onto the lawn. Other long-term security enhancements were under consideration in response to a September 2014 security breach in which a Texas man managed to scale the fence, enter the executive mansion and run deep into the building.

3 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;
