Comet lander Philae awakes from hibernation, communicates with Earth-The Canadian PressBy Frank Jordans, The Associated Press | JUNE 14,15-YAHOONEWS

BERLIN - The comet lander Philae has awoken from a seven-month hibernation and managed to communicate with Earth for more than a minute, the European Space Agency said Sunday. The probe became the first spacecraft to land on a comet when it touched down on the icy surface of 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in November. After its historic landing, Philae managed to conduct experiments and send data to Earth for about 60 hours before its batteries were depleted and it was forced to shut down its systems.Scientists hoped the probe would wake up again as the comet approached the sun, when its solar panels would soak up enough light to charge the on-board battery. Those hopes were confirmed at 10:28 p.m. (2028 GMT; 4:28 p.m. EDT) on Saturday, when the lander sent a signal back to Earth."I'm not really surprised it happened, but if you wait for several months and then suddenly in the middle of the night you get a call saying 'we have a signal from Philae,' it's exciting," said Stephan Ulamec, project manager at the German Aerospace Center, or DLR. "We're very happy."The brief burst of communication contained 300 packages of data that were relayed by the probe's mother ship Rosetta, which is orbiting the comet."We only received data for about 85 seconds. These data are housekeeping and system data from the lander," said Ulamec. It was enough to tell scientists that the probe is doing well and getting sufficient sunlight to keep communicating.Ulamec said the probe appears to have been awake for several days before it called home, because some of the packages scientists received contained historical data. They will now work to change Rosetta's orbit so that the link to the lander lasts for longer and they can start sending commands for it to carry out new measurements, resulting in fresh scientific data. The next opportunity to communicate with Philae should come on Sunday night, said Ulamec.Scientists also hope that Philae's restart will allow them to pinpoint where the probe landed. Its exact location has been a mystery, though scientists have narrowed down the likely landing site based on images and other measurements received from Philae and Rosetta.Comet 67P is currently near the orbit of Mars. On Aug. 13 it will reach the point at which it is closest to the sun — known as perihelion — before swinging back out again. Ulamec said the lander should get enough sunlight to operate until October, when it will once again fall silent, possibly forever.

Crews partly contain wildfire south of Lytton, B.C., on third day of blaze-The Canadian PressBy The Canadian Press | june 14,15-yahoonews

LYTTON, B.C. - Firefighters have now contained about 15 per cent of a massive wildfire blazing south of Lytton, B.C.The B.C. Wildfire Management Branch says no significant growth in the fire occurred Saturday morning and the blaze is now about 12.8 square kilometres in size. The branch says about 6.7 millimetres of rain fell on the fire Friday, but cautions that winds and warmer temperatures could increase fire activity Saturday afternoon.High winds are carrying heavy smoke throughout the region in southern B.C. and it is visible from Merritt, Kamloops and Vernon. One home has been destroyed while 10 others remain under an evacuation order issued by the Lytton First Nation.About 88 firefighters, seven helicopters and three pieces of heavy equipment have been brought in to battle the blaze.

THE FIRST JUDGEMENT OF THE EARTH STARTED WITH WATER-IT ONLY MAKES SENSE THE LAST GENERATION WILL BE HAVING FLOODING
GENESIS 7:6-12
6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.
7 And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.
8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.
10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
GOD PROMISED BY A RAINBOW-THE EARTH WOULD NEVER BE DESTROYED TOTALLY WITH A FLOOD AGAIN.BUT FLOODIING IS A SIGN OF JUDGEMENT.

Police hunt escaped zoo animals after floods in Georgian capital-ReutersBy By Margarita Antidze | Reuters – june 14,15-yahoonews

TBILISI (Reuters) - Tigers, lions, bears and wolves were among more than 30 animals that escaped from a Georgian zoo and onto the streets of the capital Tbilisi on Sunday during floods that killed at least 12 people.Residents were advised to stay indoors until the animals could be captured. Reuters photographs showed a marksman shooting tranquilliser darts at a hippopotamus walking past shops on a mud-soaked street.Local news agencies later reported more than half the animals had been returned to the zoo. Some were killed by police, including a rare breed of white lion cub and six wolves roaming the grounds of a nearby children's hospital.Three zoo workers died, including a woman who was trying to save lions and tigers. Several weeks ago she had lost her arm when a tiger attacked her, according to the reports.Heavy rains turned the Vere river that flows through Tbilisi into a torrent that washed away buildings, roads and cars."Dozens of families remain homeless as their houses were destroyed or damaged in the capital," deputy mayor Irakly Lekvinadze told reporters. At least 24 people were still missing and 37 were taken to hospital with injuries, Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri told an emergency government meeting. Monday was declared a day of national mourning. The estimated damage was up to 40 million lari (18 million), according to the Finance Ministry, and government officials were in touch with international donors to discuss aid.($1 = 2.2200 laris)(Reporting by Margarita Antidze; Writing by Polina Devitt; Editing by Mark Trevelyan)
