Well-trained and armed, Taliban tried to hijack plane in Pakistan
By By Syed Raza Hassan -JUNE 9,14-YahooNews
ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - Their backpacks stuffed with food and ammunition, a squad of highly trained Taliban fighters attacked Pakistan's biggest airport in what they clearly expected to be a protracted siege.Seven fighters were shot dead by Pakistani forces after five hours of intense gunfire at Karachi's Jinnah International Airport. Three died after detonating their suicide-bomb belts. The Pakistani Taliban said they carried out the attack in response to air strikes in their strongholds near the Afghan border and that their mission was to hijack a passenger plane."The main goal of this attack was to damage the government, including by hijacking planes and destroying state installations," said Shahidullah Shahid, a Taliban spokesman."This was just an example of what we are capable of and there is more to come. The government  should be ready for even worse attacks."At least 27 people, including 10 militants, were killed. In a similar well-coordinated attack in 2011, militants besieged a naval base in Karachi to avenge the killing of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in a secret U.S. special forces operation that year. The latest assault started just before midnight on Sunday.Wearing Airport Security Force uniforms and armed with automatic rifles and rocket-propelled grenades, the group shot its way into the airport after arriving at the cargo terminal in two mini-vans.A senior police officer said that the militants then split into two groups, with one attacking a gate called Fokker to create a diversion and the other storming the cargo terminal.Another senior police officer, Raja Umar Khattab, told Reuters that the attackers then broke into groups of two and pressed ahead with the assault."They operated in pairs. That's why their bodies were found lying in pairs," he said. "It seems there was some ill-planning on their part. They did fire two rockets but they didn't hit their targets."He added: "They wasted 10 men, but couldn't inflict serious damage on the airport. They didn't wear suicide vests, but instead used suicide belts. This is the reason why their faces and upper bodies were not badly mutilated."

DRIED FRUIT AND WATER

The plan was to make it to the nearby passenger terminal but their advance was disrupted by the unexpectedly strong resistance of security forces including paramilitary Rangers.A protracted gunbattle followed as the militants took up positions around the cargo terminal. All passengers were quickly whisked away from the airport and flights were diverted as the gunbattle unfolded through the night."The militants were not able to achieve their target of hitting the aeroplanes as they were kept engaged by the security forces, as forces responded very quickly," said a security source. He said the militants were highly trained and carried large backpacks filled with dried fruit and water, suggesting they were in for a long siege. The official said all the attackers were wearing similar running shoes - a trademark feature for Taliban insurgents. Bearded, gun-toting militants wearing camouflage and simple trainers are a common fixture of Taliban propaganda videos."It would have been much more disastrous if the militants had reached the main terminal building and taken hostages. There were hundreds of passengers and staff members present at the main terminal at the time," the official said. Two international flights, operated by Emirates and Thai Airways, were boarding passengers at the time of the attack.Parts of the terminal were set ablaze but it was unclear if insurgents had intentionally set it on fire.Heavy smoke billowed into the sky well into Monday when officials announced the siege was over.(Writing by Maria Golovnina; Editing by Robert Birsel)

I WONDER IF MAYBE PAKISTAN WAS READY TO TELL THE WORLD THAT THE OSAMA BIN LADIN SO CALLED OBAMA HERO BUSCUIT TAKE DOWN WAS ALL A FRAUD.AND THAT OBAMA JUST CONVINCED PAKISTAN TO LIE ABOUT THE UNFREEZING OF OSAMA BIN LADIN FALSE FLAG KILLING SO OBAMA COULD GET RE-ELECTED.IT WAS JUST AFTER THE BIN LADEN SITUATION THAT THE AMERICA-PAKISTAN RELATIONS SOURED.

NOW IS OBAMA GETTING BACK AT PAKISTAN BY LETTING THESE TALIBAN MURDERERS FREE LEAD BY BOWE BERGDAHL UNDER THE CIA LEAD TO DESTROY PAKISTAN FOR TRYING TO REVEAL THE OSAMA BIN LADIN FAKE KILLING.AND NOTICE ITS NOW THAT  OBAMA SAYS THEIR OUTTA AFGHANISTAN FOR GOOD.SO THIS FITS RIGHT IN THAT AMERICA IS GETTING REVENGE ON PAKISTAN FOR PAKISTAN PROBABLY TELLING OBAMA IF HE DOES NOT GET THE TROOPS OUTTA AFGHANISTAN AND LEAVE PAKISTAN ALONE.WE PAKISTAN WILL TELL THE WORLD THAT THE OSAMA BIN LADIN FAKE KILL WAS JUST A VOTING PLOY BY OBAMA TO GET RE_ELECTED AS OSAMA BIN LADIN DIED BACK IN 2002 ALREADY.

January 19, 2002-Musharraf: bin Laden is dead-CNN

Pakistan's president says he thinks Osama bin Laden is most likely dead because the suspected terrorist has been unable to get treatment for his kidney disease. "I think now, frankly, he is dead for the reason he is a ... kidney patient," Gen. Pervez Musharraf said on Friday in an interview with CNN. Musharraf said Pakistan knew bin Laden took two dialysis machines into Afghanistan. "One was specifically for his own personal use," he said.

Red Alert: Government Had Osama bin Laden Frozen for Years
Kurt Nimmo and Alex Jones-Infowars.com-May 1, 2011

CNN and the corporate media report this evening that purported CIA asset Osama bin Laden has been killed by the U.S. military in a mansion outside the Pakistani capital of Islamabad along with other family members. In an address to the nation, Obama said he ordered the strike that allegedly killed Osama. The remainder of his speech followed the standard war on terror propaganda script.A small team of Americans killed bin Laden in a firefight at a compound in Pakistan, the president said in a dramatic late-night statement at the White House, the Associated Press reported following Obama’s address.Obama said the military took custody of his remains. It remains to be seen if the government will attempt to provide evidence that the remains are indeed those of Osama bin Laden. The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done,” said former president Bush. In 2006, Bush admitted that capturing Osama was not a top priority. In February, 2004, Iranian state radio claimed Osama bin Laden had been captured in Pakistan’s border region with Afghanistan “a long time ago.” Pentagon and Pakistani officials denied the report. “Osama bin Laden has been arrested a long time ago, but Bush is intending to use it for propaganda maneuvering in the presidential election,” the radio report said.Osama bin Laden died of kidney failure soon after the September 11, 2001, attacks. In 2002, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said bin Laden had kidney disease, and that he had required a dialysis machine when he lived in Afghanistan. That same year, the FBI’s top counterterrorism official, Dale Watson, said, “I personally think he is probably not with us anymore.”A Taliban leader told the Pakistan Observer on December 21, 2002, that Bin Laden was suffering from a serious lung complication and died in mid-December, in the vicinity of the Tora Bora mountains. The source claimed that bin Laden was laid to rest honorably in his last abode and his grave was made as per his Wahabi belief, according to Fox News.Alex Jones was told live on the radio in 2002 by high-level Council on Foreign Relations members that Osama Bin Laden had died of kidney failure in early 2002.“I have it from high level [sources] from inside the Bush administration…that bin Laden died of natural causes and that his family has given the body to the CIA, that they’re gonna roll him out right before the election, that he’s on ice right now. They will claim they killed him right before the election,” Alex said at the time.“Jones gave a caution that the intelligence could be disinformation but claimed that his base in Austin was extremely close to the Bush administration and similar information received in the past had been credible,” Paul Joseph Watson wrote in August of 2002.During the 2004 election, CNN reported that Democratic insiders had been told that George W. Bush was going to use the Bin Laden body as an ace-in-the-hole if he thought he was in danger of losing the 2004 election. This confirmed the evidence that Jones had been given by the CFR and others. In 2003, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright told Fox News Channel analyst Morton Kondracke she suspected Bush knew the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden and was waiting for the most politically expedient moment to announce his capture.Benazir Bhutto, who was killed in a suicide attack at the end of 2007, stated that Osama bin Laden had been killed by Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, a man convicted of kidnapping and killing journalist Daniel Pearl.Obama’s announcement follows the release of a highly suspicious birth certificate last week. Both events represent psychological operations that possibly portend more significant events in the days ahead as the U.S. dollar continues to lose its reserve status, the economy fails to recover as promised, and wars expand in Libya, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.Obama’s propaganda stunt arrives as the Democrats kick off their leader’s presidential reelection bid against a number of Republicans contenders who have been highly critical of not only his perceived handling of the economy, but also his management of the manufactured war on terror.

In his book, Magnificent Delusions: Pakistan, the United States, and an Epic History of Misunderstanding (PublicAffairs, 2013), Haqqani, who was a CAS associate professor of international relations from 2004 to 2008, when he took a leave of absence to serve as ambassador to the United States, makes the case that mutual false expectations, self-deception, and an ominous misreading of regional dynamics have led relations between the United States and Pakistan to their current low point. The narrative goes behind the scenes during the Cold War, when the United States lavished arms on a Pakistan that was not only far from strategic to US anti-Soviet interests, but intent on using American military aid to strengthen its hand against India. Haqqani also ruminates on the May 2011 raid on the Abbottabad compound of Osama bin Laden, where the world’s most wanted terrorist and his family had holed up in plain sight just 68 miles north of the Pakistani capital of Islamabad. The former ambassador’s persistent call for Pakistan’s accountability about bin Laden has made him persona non grata in his home country.

May 20, 2011-Pakistanis More Sour on U.S. After Bin Laden Raid-Many think U.S. should leave Afghanistan, but expect U.S. to stay-by Julie Ray and Rajesh Srinivasan

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The U.S. military operation that resulted in Osama bin Laden's death in Pakistan made an already unpopular U.S. even less popular with some Pakistanis. Sixty-four percent of Pakistanis who were aware of the U.S. action say it made them have a more negative opinion of the U.S., while 5% say it made them have a more positive opinion.

More positive or more negative?

These results from the May 9-12 survey underscore how difficult the task will be for Pakistan and the U.S. to repair relations after the U.S. raid on bin Laden's compound near Abbottabad. The poll also found the majority of Pakistanis condemn the U.S. action, and most who were aware of the action disapprove that it took place without their government's prior knowledge.

Approval of U.S. Leadership Sinks, Disapproval Soars

Pakistanis' opinions of U.S. leadership have never been favorable in the years Gallup has been polling there. Overall, the 10% of Pakistanis who approved of U.S. leadership last week is down from 18% in 2010, but not meaningfully lower than what Gallup measured in 2008 and 2009. Disapproval, however, soared to a record-high 85%.

Approve of U.S.?.gif

Although few Pakistanis overall approve of U.S. leadership, those who were aware of the U.S. action are slightly more likely to approve of U.S. leadership (11%) than those who were not aware (4%). But the results also suggest there is resentment for the U.S. action even among the Pakistanis who approve of U.S. leadership. A majority of these Pakistanis say the U.S. action made them have more negative opinions.

Pakistanis Think U.S. Should Leave Afghanistan, but Expect U.S. to Stay

Many Pakistanis believe the U.S. should withdraw its troops from Afghanistan now that bin Laden is dead -- possibly reflecting their frustration with drone attacks that did not stop with his demise. Seventy-nine percent of Pakistanis who were aware of the U.S. action say the U.S. should go now, while 14% think the U.S. should stay. Even among Pakistanis who approve of U.S. leadership, a majority say U.S. troops should go.

Should troops withdraw?

However, Pakistanis are largely skeptical that the U.S. will leave. Fifty-seven percent who were aware of the U.S. military operation that killed bin Laden say they do not think the U.S. will now withdraw its forces from Afghanistan. Slightly more than one-quarter (26%) say they think the U.S. will leave.

Will troops withdraw?

Implications

While the U.S. is not offering any apologies for killing bin Laden on Pakistani soil, it did step up efforts this week to smooth relations between the two countries, even as some lawmakers called for U.S. aid to be cut. The deputy director of the CIA and another envoy met with Pakistani intelligence and leadership Thursday, after U.S. Sen. John Kerry's visit there earlier this week. With Pakistanis' opinions about the U.S. moving from bad to worse after bin Laden's death, it is not clear even whether full U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan would reverse this decline. For its part, the U.S. does not yet see its mission in the region as complete, and neither do many Americans. Gallup's data reinforce the significant diplomatic challenges that lie ahead for both countries. For complete data sets or custom research from the more than 150 countries Gallup continually surveys, please contact SocialandEconomicAnalysis@gallup.com or call 202.715.3030.

Survey Methods

Results are based on face-to-face interviews conducted between May 9-12, 2011, with 1,004 adults, aged 15 and older, covering urban and rural areas across all four provinces. Results for those who were are aware of the U.S. operation are based on a sample of 792 adults. Federally administered areas and Azad Jammu Kashmir were excluded from this study. For results based on the total sample, one can say with 95% confidence that the maximum margin of sampling error is ±4 percentage points. The margin of error reflects the influence of data weighting. In addition to sampling error, question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias into the findings of public opinion polls.

NATO says 5 service members killed in Afghanistan
By RAHIM FAIEZ - JUNE 10,14 TUE-YahooNews

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Five NATO service members were killed in an apparent friendly fire incident in southern Afghanistan, the international coalition said on Tuesday.A statement from the coalition said all five soldiers died on Monday but did not give further details on the attack or the nationality of the soldiers. Coalition policy is for home countries to identify their military dead. Most of the forces operating in the area are from the United States."The casualties occurred during a security operation when their unit came into contact with enemy forces. Tragically, there is the possibility that fratricide may have been involved. The incident is under investigation. Our thoughts are with the families of those killed during this difficult time," the coalition said in an announcement. If confirmed, it would be one of the most serious cases involving coalition on coalition friendly fire during the nearly 14 year Afghan war. One of the worst came in April 2002 when four Canadian soldiers were killed when an American F-16 dropped a bomb on them near a night firing exercise in the southern Kandahar.A senior police official in southern Zabul province said the coalition soldiers may have been killed when they called in for close air support.Provincial police chief Gen. Ghulam Sakhi Rooghlawanay said there was a joint operation by Afghan and NATO troops in the area's Arghandab district early Monday. After that operation was over, the troops came under attack from the Taliban and called in air support."There was a joint operation by the joint Afghan and foreign forces in Arghandab district of Zabul province on Monday. After the operation was over on the way back, the joint forces came under the attack of insurgents, then foreign forces called for an air support, Unfortunately five NATO soldiers and one Afghan army officer were killed mistakenly by NATO air strike," Rooghlawanay said. There was no way to independently confirm Rooghlawanay comments. The coalition would not comment and NATO headquarters in Brussels also deferred comment. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack. The insurgents have intensified attacks on Afghan and foreign forces ahead of the country's presidential election runoff on Saturday. Officials are concerned there could be more violence around the time of the vote, although the first round in April passed relatively peacefully.A Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousef Ahmadi, said a battle took place on Monday night between foreign troops and Taliban fighters in the Arghandab district. Ahmadi claimed a "huge number" of NATO soldiers were killed or wounded in the fighting but the Taliban often exaggerate their claims.Separately, a NATO statement said a service member had died on Monday as a result of a non-battle injury in eastern Afghanistan. The deaths bring to 36 the number of NATO soldiers killed so far this year in Afghanistan, with eight service members killed in June.Casualties have been falling in the U.S.-led military coalition as its forces pull back to allow the Afghan army and police to fight the Taliban insurgency. All combat troops are scheduled to be withdrawn from the country by the end of this year.___Patrick Quinn contributed from Cairo, Egypt.

Pakistan: 7 burned bodies found at Karachi airport
By ADIL JAWAD -JUNE 10,14-YahooNews

KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani airport authorities found seven bodies in a burned building at the Karachi international airport on Tuesday, bringing the death toll from the attack there to 36, including the 10 Taliban attackers, officials said. The news came as the Pakistani military pounded targets in the northwest tribal region near the Afghan border earlier in the day, killing 15 militants, the army said. The discovery of the bodies, roughly a day after Pakistani officials said the airport had been secured, is sure to raise more questions about security at the country's busiest airport. The remains of the seven victims were brought to Karachi's Jinnah Hospital on Tuesday morning, said Dr. Seemi Jamali. They were charred beyond recognition, said the head of the Karachi Municipal Corporation, Rauf Akhtar Farooqi. The bodies were found in a burned building in the airport, inside a cold storage unit but it was unclear how they got there or who they were. Pakistani media were reporting that the seven were airport workers who had hidden inside the unit from the fighting but got trapped and burned to death.A group of 10 militants, some disguised as police, attacked the airport on Sunday night and battled with Pakistani forces for roughly five hours before the Karachi airport siege was over. The Pakistani Taliban later claimed responsibility for the attack and vowed more violence. The Pakistani Taliban has been trying to overthrow the government and establish its hard-line rule across the country. The government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has tried repeatedly to negotiate with the militants to end the fighting but those efforts have gone off the rails in recent weeks. The airport attack, coming against a high-profile target in a city vital to the country's economy, has raised questions about whether Sharif will continue to pursue the negotiations policy or choose a more aggressive, military response.__Associated Press writers Rebecca Santana and Asif Shahzad in Islamabad contributed to this report.

Pakistan: Karachi airport training center attacked-By ADIL JAWAD -JUNE 10,14-YahooNews
An ambulance rushes to a hospital after gunmen attacked a training center for airport security personnel in Karachi, Pakistan, Tuesday, June 10, 2014. Gunmen in Pakistan attacked a training facility near the Karachi airport on Tuesday, a spokesman said. The facility is roughly one kilometer (half mile) from the Karachi international airport.

KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) — Gunmen in Pakistan attacked a training facility near the Karachi airport on Tuesday, a spokesman said.Pakistani television stations showed images of security guards rushing to the scene and frantically taking up positions behind buildings or earthen berms around the facility, which serves as a training center for airport security personnel. The facility is roughly one kilometer (half mile) from the Karachi international airport. The attack began as at least two groups of gunmen tried to enter the facility from two different entrances, said Ghulam Abbas Memon, a spokesman for the Airport Security Force. The security forces were fighting them back, he said. Memon did not know how many attackers were involved or whether there were any casualties.Details were sketchy and no one immediately claimed responsibility for Tuesday's attack. The firefight came on the heels of a brazen siege by the Taliban who on Sunday night stormed Karachi's Jinnah International Airport in an attack that killed 36 people, including the 10 Taliban gunmen. At least 11 members of the Airport Security Force were killed during that attack. The Civil Aviation Authority, which is responsible for running the country's airports, said in its Twitter feed that all flights at the Karachi international airport have been suspended because the academy for the ASF was under attack. The organization called on people to be calm and patient.
