A group of non-euro member states led by Poland is a fighting a rearguard action not to be left out in the cold as single currency member states consider going ahead with a eurozone economic government.Europe ministers from Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania met in Brussels on Monday (12 September) morning to discuss how best to influence the debate on the future of the 17-nation euro area.All seven states are obliged under the terms of their accession treaties to join the single currency but they have little means of making their views heard, being excluded from the increasingly frequent meetings on euro governance.Warsaw wants European governance that is coherent in the sense that we do not create two different clubs within Europe, said Poland Prime Minister Donald Tusk following a meeting with EU council president Herman Van Rompuy in Brussels.Polish Europe minister Mikolaj Dowgielewicz, also in the EU capital, said: I don’t think that you can restrict talk on the future of the euro to the eurozone countries. It is a matter of concern and priority for the whole of the European Union.He said he thought the meetings would continue adding: Look at the bright side of life, call it the friends of euro and don’t have dark thought about why we are meeting.
Dowgielewicz also indicated that the seven countries will lay out a series of proposals on economic governance before a general meeting of EU leaders in October.

The spectre of a two-speed Europe, with a core of more closely integrated eurozone states started to take shape in August when France and Germany proposed regular meetings of eurozone leaders and a separate euro president, likely to be Van Rompuy.
In addition, Van Rompuy is working on economic governance proposals which he is to unveil next month.He said they would concentrate on four issues: improving efficacy of working methods and communication; strengthening institutions; fiscal discipline; and fiscal integration.He was not particularly welcoming of the club of seven’s activities. If non-euro members want to make observations, ask for additional information or make fundamental remarks, the European Council will be the place to do so, he said.

New treaty unwelcome

The Polish prime minister dismissed the idea of working on a new treaty to incorporate new economic governance rules as a distraction.I am aware of the fact that the treaty is no longer a taboo subject but I would be extremely hesitant in engaging European leaders and European institutions in that debate today, said Tusk. We need very strong decisions now and any discussion concerning the treaty could possibly lead to less coherence among the positions of the member states.Germany, in particular, has been pushing to re-open the treaty in order to enshrine sanctions for budget sinners into EU law.Recently European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso also suggested it might be an option, although most member states look on the prospect with a jaundiced eye after the decade-long negotiations to produce the current, just-in-force, Lisbon Treaty.

European commission president Jose Manuel Barroso has said he believes the eurozone will integrate further with market demands now trumping past ideological debates.My assessment is that the European Union will go further into integration, namely around the eurozone, he told an audience on Tuesday (6 September) during a visit to Australia.He said that in the past debates about the future of Europe were political or even ideological with federalists on the one side and intergovernmentalists on the other.But now with markets calling for mechanisms for quickly dealing with the eurozone debt crisis, the fundamentals of the debate have been altered.Now, the markets are demanding more integration at least for the euro area. And this is new, said Barroso.The discussion is how far can we go now, do we need a new treaty to go further, what can we do to reinforce the governance of the eurozone, he said, becoming the latest in a series of high level EU officials to raise the spectre of yet another revision of the EU treaties.Barroso, former prime minister of Portugal one of the three bailed-out eurozone countries, also touched on one of the most significant questions thrown up by crisis – how to balance the demands of the market with the slower and messier democratic process.Now [eurosceptics] understand that one of the issues that the markets are looking at is the capacity of the euro area to have quick answers because the markets are very fast and democratic procedures are always slower than the markets. And we have to understand this.

This issue is at the core of a debate in paymaster Germany where parliamentarians are currently discussing what strings to attach in return for their agreement to make the eurozone bailout fund more flexible.German finance minister Wolfgang Schaueble has already indicated he is opposed to greatly increased parliamentary control, fearing it will make the fund too cumbersome, and therefore weak in eyes of the markets.The country’s constitutional court is also expected to highlight the importance of parliamentary democratic process on Wednesday when it gives its verdict on the legality of Germany’s involvement in saving the eurozone, including partaking in the first bailout of Greece last year.

EU countries under market pressures must be prepared to swallow even stronger doses of austerity, the European Commission said on Monday (12 September).Debt-loads will continue to climb unless still further cuts are made to public spending, the commission argues (Images_of_Money)Most states have slashed tens of billions from their public spending plans already, but this may not be enough, according to an annual report from the EU executive on the state of public finances in the bloc, as debtloads continue to grow.Member states facing market pressures must continue to deliver on reaching their fiscal targets and take additional measures if needed, economy commissioner Olli Rehn said in a written statement upon the release of the report.Unusually, Rehn himself did not appear publicly to present the findings, cancelling a scheduled press conference due to a serious family matter, according to his spokesman, Amadeu Altafaj-Tardio.The head of the commission’s economy department, Marco Buti, wrote in a gloomy editorial at the front of the document that despite a return of GDP growth, the withdrawal of stimulus and budget-cutting exercises across the bloc, debt is still expected to continue increasing for the next year or so in most cases. Once it has reached its peak, the issue is not over.It will not be sufficient to stem the increase; rather, additional consolidation measures will be required to reduce it from its new level, he continued, arguing that Europe’s aging population will add still further pressures on public finances in the coming decades as a result of the higher costs of ageing and lower growth as a result of fewer working-age people.Buti also talked down the optimism found in economic forecasts earlier in the year: Doubts on continued steady output growth have emerged and the optimism of the Spring that the European economy is emerging into the post-crisis world has become more cautious.

The paper went on to say that the bloc’s economy is to expand around 1.9 percent in 2012 while average euro-area public debt will rise to 88.7 percent of GDP, up from 87.9 percent this year.Despite multiple rounds of austerity already imposed, Greece for its part will see its debtload climb to 166.1 percent of GDP in 2012, up from 157.7 percent this year.After a contraction in 2009, in every EU country apart from Poland, growth returned in 2010 in all but five peripheral countries, the paper said, and continued through the beginning of 2011. However, overall output level is expected to only just approach its pre-crisis level by the end 2011.As a result, argues the report, the need for consolidation should not be underestimated. The years of the crisis left behind a legacy, not just of support measures that need to be reversed, but of lasting weaknesses to the public finances.The document goes on to say that while governments can reduce debt levels through a mix of spending cuts or increasing taxes or a mixture of the two, governments should embrace cuts over tax hikes, as evidence from the past shows that cuts have greater success, in terms of the effect that they have on the overall public finances.At the same time however, the paper says that those countries with fiscal room of manoeuvre, should go more slowly in their debt-reduction measures in order to mitigate the effects of a slowdown of the recovery on activity and jobs while sticking to their structural adjustment paths.

Jordan is Jordan, and Palestine is Palestine.Abdullah's comments come amid a row over his refusal to back the Palestinian Authority's unilateral bid for statehood at the United Nations and are likely intended to show 'solidarity' with PA officials, who have been angered over Amman's position.Analysts say, despite Jordan's couching its opposition in terms of concern for Palestinian refugees' and the so-called right of return, that Amman's motives are likely rooted in its own demographic and security concerns.Jordan's Palestinian refugee majority has been heavily involved in recent unrest in Jordan - during which there have been credible threats on Abdullah's life - and assuming responsibility for PA enclaves in Judea and Samaria is widely seen as a potentially destabalizing move for the Hashemite monarchy by regional experts.

We support the Palestinians’ right to establish their state, and our position has not, and will not change. Therefore, the substitute homeland option should at all times be excluded from any discussion.Abdullah noted with consternation that the substitute homeland proposal is frequently raised by Israeli nationalists.This is not acceptable, Abdullah insisted. We cannot keep bringing up the subject every year. There are people who blow this issue out of proportion. It is the unsettled who raise it.Regrettably, although we keep reassuring these people, they keep bringing it up again and again. But this is a bygone era, so let us think about our future rather than the past. We need to move forward.But while Abdullah insisted he supported the national aspirations of PA officials, he pointedly said he did so only on Jordan's terms, and made no reference to reversing his opposition to their UN bid.
Jordan will defend its rights and support its vision of a permanent solution that would ensure the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital and a just realization of the right of return and adequate compensation, Abdullah said.

They met in the Knesset with Israeli representatives to discuss the current crisis in the relations between Turkey and Israel.The two are representatives of Adnan Oktar, an Istabul-based theologian and philosopher who has many followers in Turkey and is very influential in shaping the public opinion there.They met with MK Rabbi Nissim Zeev (Shas), who also arranged their meetings at the Knesset, as well as with Knesset Speaker MK Reuven Rivlin (Likud), coalition chairman MK Zeev Elkin (Likud), and Nazim Bader, the Deputy Secretary General of the Knesset. A separate meeting with Internal Affairs Minister Eli Yishai (Shas) was arranged by Rabbi Yeshayahu HaKohen Hollander, leading justice of the Sanhedrin Rabbinic Court, Rabbi Avraham Haim and Rabbi Menashe Zelikha.Oktar said in an e-mail exchange with Arutz Sheva that the meetings went very well, and that his representatives explained to the Israelis about the urgent need to end the conflict and tension between the two countries.We would like to give a powerful and clear message that we are embracing Jews and Christians as well, and that we will not sleep unless any of the countries in the region is at ease and peace - including Israel, he said.

Bush rejected his advice in 2007 to bomb a suspected nuclear reactor site at al-Kibar in Syria, and that he was a lone voice for military action against the country.According to Cheney, other advisers were reluctant because of the bad intelligence we had received about Iraq's stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction before the 2003 invasion of that country.Ultimately, it was Israel who bombed the Dair Alzour complex at al-Kibar on 6 September 2007. The following year International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) officials confirmed the nature of the al-Kibar site when they reported, significant natural uranium particles of anthropogenic origin.According to the IAEA, Imagery taken prior to and immediately after the bombing indicates that the destroyed box-shaped building may have had underground levels. Its containment structure appears to have been similar in dimension and layout to that required for a biological shield for nuclear reactors, and the overall size of the building was sufficient to house the equipment needed for a nuclear reactor of the type alleged.
US intelligence officials noted the Syrian site was an approximate copy of the unique North Korean nuclear site at Yongbyon at the time, saying they measured the footprint of the Yongbyon reactor building and compared it to that of the suspected reactor building in Syria and found the two footprints were approximately the same.

In his interview with Newsmax, the former vice president referred to the 10th year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, saying I still worry more than anything else really about the possibility of a group of terrorists acquiring really deadly capabilities.When we got hit on 9/11 there were 19 guys armed with airline tickets and box cutters. Just one week before the Palestinian Authority submits its bid for unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state at the United Nations, PA factions are divided over the bid.According to a report by the Bethlehem-based Ma'an news agency on Monday, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) has announced its support for the UN campaign while the Hamas terror group, which controls the Gaza Strip, does not support it.We support the Palestinian leadership's plan to go to the UN because that is a natural right of the Palestinians and part of the political battle against Israeli occupation, Ma'an quoted Kayid Al-Ghoul, a member of the PFLP's politburo, as having said.Regardless of the outcome, this step should be part of the political battle we fight against occupation, Al-Ghoul added.It will also be an opportunity to enlarge the circle of solidarity with the Palestinian people's rights, and to expose Israel's policies and the supportive U.S. policy.Al-Ghoul also expressed concern that PA officials have referred to the possibility of canceling the UN bid if they received new offers to resume peace negotiations with Israel.He said that canceling the bid would harm the PA's position and create political rivalry, adding that a cancelation would suggest the whole campaign was just a tactic aimed at returning to negotiations.

Ma'an noted that another group which supports the UN bid is the Palestinian National Initiative, whose secretary-general Mustafa Barghouti told reporters on Saturday that the UN bid is the last option for two states.The time has come for an alternative. There is no space or place for talks, Barghouti said. We won't be slaves to apartheid for the rest of our lives. If South Sudan could get statehood in 48 hours, then Palestinians should get it.The report noted, however, that Hamas does not support the bid for UN recognition, saying it is a unilateral move by PA President Mahmoud Abbas.Hamas official Musheer Al-Masri was quoted by Ma'an as saying the bid is an individual step taken by President Abbas without consulting any faction, while Hamas co-founder Mahmoud al-Zahar said the Gaza Strip has been left out of the campaign.Nobody has asked the people in Gaza to take to the streets showing solidarity with the so-called September bid,a-Zahar was quoted as saying. If the Palestinian Authority calls for that, we will oppose it because they detain people in the West Bank. The only nation in the world based on religion as well as land, is Israel.The common thread uniting Palestinian Authority Arabs is the wish to destroy the State of Israel, but even that is not shared by Arabs outside circles of terrorists, academics and politicians.Land and a sense of a common particular background certainly do not unite Palestinian Authority Arabs.That is why the idea of land swaps – swapping Israel Arab population centers for Jewish population centers in Judea and Samaria – is one of the most egregious ideas since Barack Obama decided to run for president.Has the man and his advisers ever asked an Israeli Arab if Palestinian nationality excites him so much that he would give up Israel’s democracy and social services in favor of being subject to the Palestinian Authority, where bribery is the law, corruption is institutionalized and democracy was a one-night stand that catapulted Hamas into control of the legislature? Arab intellectuals and academis rant for nationhood, but where are the people when protest rallies are called? The weekly demonstrations against the Apartheid fence draw more Israeli leftists and foreign anarchists than Arabs, outside of those paid by European and left-wing funds to join rallies.Palestinian Authority Arabs have more political independence under Israeli sovereignty than Egyptians did under Mubarak and still do not have under the rule of the military regime that followed his ousting.Most Arabs in the Palestinian Authority do not march for independence and couldn’t care less.They remember how they stagnated under Jordanian rule from 1949 until 1967 and how their economy grew under Israeli sovereignty and how it suffered when Yasser Arafat’s gang surfaced.They did not even think of desiring a nation then – until Egyptian-born Yasser Arafat appeared on the scene to spread a culture of terrorism, which, believe it or not, is shared by a minority of Arabs.

Palestinian Authority leaders have been trying to manufacture lies to invent a new ancient culture by copy-catting the People of Israel’s achievement of once again becoming a State after 2,000 years.The Binding of Isaac now is the Binding of Ishmael. Rachel’s Tomb now is a Muslim holy site for centuries before Islam was founded, a rather neat trick.And, of course, the First and Second Holy Temple never existed. And don’t forget that Jesus was a Palestinian.Let’s all forget that the term Palestinian people did not exist until after the re-establishment of the State of Israel.And let’s even forget that most Palestinians live in Jordan.The Arab world has gone through all the motions to establish the Palestinian Authority as a new Arab country. It has a constitution; it has institutions; it has a flag. All of these give it a body.It has no soul.
