Obama lied – Isn’t that the real story?
Posted on February 17, 2011 by Laurie Roth

For over 2 years now Obama, most politicians and the majority of the media have demonized and marginalized the questioning and concerns about Obama and his mystery birth certificate. You know, the one along with all his College and Passport records he has paid nearly $2,000,000 to hide. I have interviewed a host of people the last two years who have sued Obama and had strong reason to believe he was not born in the US. These people include Phil Berg, www.obamacrimes.com and Alan Keys, former Ambassador to the UN. By now you and I have tracked the building case that Obama was born in Kenya. At www.obamacrimes.com we see signed affidavits from Obama’s Step Grandmother, two Pastors verifying this was so and statements on a US radio show from the former ambassador to Kenya, also verifying Obama was born there. It also came to our attention the various statements from members of Kenyon parliament also stating he was a son of the soil and born in Kenya. Even with all the endless pointing toward Kenya as a birth place we still have no conclusive proof of a long form birth certificate being produced anywhere. Instead we saw early on Hawaii and Obama release a Certification of Live Birth. There were also announcements in two newspapers commenting on Obama’s birth. This document was the one Obama’s campaign released during his presidential race. Why not the real birth certificate? According to Hawaiian rules, the Certification of live birth is given to those not born in the state.

Even with all the evidence pointing away from Hawaii it has been strangely quiet and sometimes hostile toward anyone looking at the sea of growing facts against Obama being born in Hawaii. I recall hearing more than a few put downs and insults from the big Talk show hosts on Fox and other shows. Remember the story that Doug Hagmann www.homelandsecurity.us, and Judi McLeod, editor of www.canadafreepress.com broke with a published article and on my show? Doug reported that he was contacted by a top and recognizable host who reported anonymously that he/she had been threatened to avoid the Obama eligibility subject, even to address it in a balanced, pro and con manner. It was strictly off limits….or else their job, career and perhaps sponsors would be hurt in some way. As Judi and Doug continued to dig, they found many threats to folks working at networks and shows to avoid this subject or else. It doesn’t take rocket science to notice how quiet it has been in the media coverage in the face of growing concern in the polls, evidence mounting against Obama’s being born in Hawaii and simply a HUGE COVER UP. The only sound that flows out from any of the Talk show big boys is mocking of what they call the birthers. In my view it appears that most talk show hosts are living in fear and have sold out to protect their money pile and career. Screw over the truth and constitution because you might be called a few names in the process of uncovering it.

While in CPAC recently I was able to interview Dr. Jerry Corsi who is just releasing his latest book, Where’s the Birth Certificate. Corsi has gone to Kenya and dug through every contact and record available in Hawaii to create a well documented fact trail regarding Obama and his birth place. Jerry told me that the real story which he has completely verified and will be covered in his book is that Obama lied.

Though we don’t have a long form birth certificate yet proving the exact location of Obama’s birth, we 100% know from all records available, the Hawaiian Governor Neil Abercrombie’s statements, (I have seen and have the birth certificate…I don’t have it) hospital records and other supporting documentation that Obama was not born in Hawaii. The real story is that Obama lied. He was not born there, so where was he born and why would he lie? Regardless of where he was born, common sense says he is covering up a large whopper of some kind, or he wouldn’t have lied in the first place, nor spent nearly 2 million dollars hiding it and other revealing records. This week Bob Unruh of wnd.com had a revealing article over viewing the polls taken over the last few years of people who question Obama’s eligibility. There are all kinds of polls you can dive into but the bottom line is that the suspicions are growing. Right now only 3 out of 10 in the GOP believe Obama was born in the US. Even liberal Chris Matthews who has chronically bashed the Birthers said on his show that he was perplexed by the growing tide of questioning regarding 7Obama’s eligibility. In May 2010, a WND/Wenzel Poll stated that 55% wanted Obama to release all his records and qualifications and if it is proven he is not qualified he should be removed as President and all the bills he signed made null and void.

How is this just a racist and birther issue? There are at least 12 states pursuing legislation to push bills to require proof of citizenship for the 2012 election. Obviously the concern has been growing among the states, no doubt in part due to the Judicial branch ignoring many law suits on this subject so far.Perhaps someday before I die, our TV and print media will also wake up and smell the putrid coffee dramatically pointing to the birth place lies by this President and constitutional crises this has created. It is my strong belief from the growing evidence that President Obama was born abroad and is not constitutionally eligible to be President, be commander and Chief nor sign any bills into law. Wake up America.

The laptop Dogs of War By Judi McLeod Thursday, February 17, 2011

Is there something in the champagne bubbles that drive the rich and famous crazy after attaining the heady heights of Rich-Hood? Google is very, very proud of cyberactivist Wael Ghonim, a young executive at the company who emerged as a leading voice of the Egyptian uprising, company boss Eric Schmidt said on Tuesday. (The Telegraph, Feb 15, 2011.)The official dead count from the Egypt uprising stands at 365. Were those who lost their lives to the revolution only the human means to an end? Google hero Ghonim is the company head of marketing for the Middle East and North Africa, who one day administered a FaceBook page that helped spark the uprising that toppled President Hosni Mubarak’s regime. The deserved glory days of Google’s status as No. 1 search engine, seem to have skyrocketed the Internet giant into an era of cyber revolution leadership. Is it conspiracy theory thinking to ponder how Google crossed over the Rubicon with a January 20, 2011 announcement that effective April 4, Schmidt would be resigning as CEO of Google, but continue on as the executive chairman of the company, just five days before the Egypt uprising?

Or that two days after his very, very proud of cyberactivist Wael Ghonim moment, he is set to meet today with President Barack Obama? Obama will travel to San Francisco today to meet with top technology execs, including Schmidt, Apple’s Steve Jobs and FaceBook’s Mark Zuckerberg. It’s an an undisclosed private residence where the Big O will hook up with technology’s bigwigs.Although Wael Ghonim is getting all the credit for toppling the Mubarak regime, he is one of two Google executives leading the charge for cyberspace revolution.Director of Google Ideas, Jared Cohen heads up the Alliance for Youth Movement (AYM), which trains digital activists like the ones who toppled Mubarak. While piling accolades on Ghonim, Schmidt seems to be leaving it to Jared Cohen, who claims he was third only to Obama and John McCain in the Tweet department when he was a Member of the Secretary of State’s Policy Planning staff (2006-2009), to sing his own praises.Must be oh so boring to be the world’s Number 1 Search Engine when you could be bringing down governments in service to the revolution. The champagne has turned into Kool-Aid over at Google.Meanwhile, here’s hoping that Glenn Beck continues to remind Google it is time to practice their own slogan: Do No Evil.

DID THE NEW WORLD ORDER OFF HOSNI MUBARAK NOW SINCE THEY WANTED HIM OUT AS PRESIDENT OF EGYPT.I NEVER HERE OF ANYTHING ABOUT HIS HEALTH FROM CIA-CNN,MSNBC.THEY USED THIS DICTATOR FOR 30 YEARS THEN BACKSTABBED HIM.MAYBE EVEN OFFED HIM.AND ALSO THE EX TUNISIAN LEADER HAS A STROKE.THE NWO ARE OFFING THE FORMER DICTATORS AND PUTTING THEIR PUPPETS IN.NOTICE BOTH ARE IN A COMA.......HINT.

Near-death Mubarak refuses medical treatment, determined to die in Egypt - Sources 15/02/2011 By Khaled Mahmoud

Cairo, Asharq Al-Awsat –After Egyptian Ambassador to the US Sameh Shoukry publicly acknowledged that former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is in bad health, a former security official affiliated to the Egyptian military high command told Asharq Al-Awsat that the announcement of Hosni Mubarak's death could come at any time. The former security official said what is certain is that his state of health is declining drastically, in addition [to this] there is information that he is refusing to receive the required medical treatment. The source also revealed that there had been attempts to convince Mubarak to travel abroad for medical treatment, most probably to German where he previously underwent treatment to remove a gallbladder last year. However the former security official clarified to Asharq Al-Awsat that Mubarak is refusing this…in fact, he has asked those around him to allow him to die in his country, and I believe this is just a matter of time adding it is unfortunate that this is how it will end.Contrary to reports that Mubarak is working on a memoir, the former Egyptian official told Asharq Al-Awsat that this is untrue…Mubarak's health is not up to this, he is only regains consciousness rarely, spending most of his time in a comatose state.

There have also been questioned raised about the location and state of health of former senior governmental figures and former Mubarak aides. For example, former parliamentary speaker Ahmed Fathi Sorour has not left his house in the affluent Cairo district of Garden City for a number of days, and he is refusing to receive visitors or answer telephone calls. As for Egyptian Shura Council speaker Safwat El-Sherif, his [political] office is closed and nobody can attest to his location, although the interim government has official denied reports that he has fled the country. There have been sharp disputes and exchanges of accusation between Mubarak's top aides following his resignation, and an Egyptian source informed Asharq Al-Awsat that the majority of Mubarak's former aides are in hiding, fearing the anger of the people. However the source also said that these aides have not lost hope or belief that their political careers can be resurrected.A minister in Egypt's interim government, speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat on the condition of anonymity, said that Mubarak did not receive the complete truth from those around him, they were the ones giving the orders, and they were aided in this by his failing health. He added he could have received information from dozens of monitoring agencies however he did not listen to anyone; he trusted his close advisors and believed that they were telling him the truth and were not underplaying the facts.

Exiled Tunisian leader Ben Ali in serious condition after stroke
By Leo Reyes.FEB 18,11

Former Tunisia's President Ben Ali, who is in exile in Saudi Arabia, has suffered a stroke and was reported to be in a grave condition in a hospital, according to a family friend. The family friend, who was not named, said the former president was in a coma in a hospital in Jeddah, according to a BBC News reoprt. He had a stroke, and his condition is serious, he said. The news was also confirmed by Tunisia's Le Quotidien newspaper on Thursday. The former Tunisian president has traveled to Saudi Arabia with his family after weeks of mass protests over widespread unemployment, human rights violations and other social issues. Dissident and journalist Touafik Ben Brik, who was jailed under the regime for articles criticising Ben Ali, told AFP he felt as if he was almost in mourning for the dictator, such was his hold on the country, Aljazeera News reports. I can never forget. He is still in us, he is part of our past and he will live for a long time in us.

Yadh Ben Achour, a Tunisian lawyer and head of the newly established national commission for political reform, said Ben Ali's hospitalisation in exile is proof there is justice on earth. The 74-year old former president has been staying in Saudi Arabia since January 14. Tunisia's mass uprising has triggered similar protests and demonstrations in neighboring countries in the the middle east leading to the ouster of Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak over a week ago.Mass protests and demonstrations are on-going in Yemen, Libya, Iran and Bahrain while similar mass actions have been reported in Algeria.Read more: http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/303797#ixzz1EL4bhLGs

Deception at the Fed Ron Paul
Infowars.com February 18, 2011

For the past three decades, the Federal Reserve has been given a dual mandate: keeping prices stable and maximizing employment. This policy relies not only on the fatal conceit of believing in the wisdom of supposed experts, but also on numerical chicanery.Rather than understanding inflation in the classical sense as a monetary phenomenon– an increase in the money supply- it has been redefined as an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The CPI is calculated based on a weighted basket of goods which is constantly fluctuating, allowing for manipulation of the index to keep inflation expectations low. Employment figures are much the same, relying on survey data, seasonal adjustments, and birth/death models, while the major focus remains on the unemployment rate. Of course, the unemployment rate can fall as discouraged workers drop out of the labor market altogether, leading to the phenomenon of a falling unemployment rate with no job growth.

In terms of keeping stable prices, the Fed has failed miserably. According to the government’s own CPI calculators, it takes $2.65 today to purchase what cost one dollar in 1980. And since its creation in 1913, the Federal Reserve has presided over a 98% decline in the dollar’s purchasing power. The average American family sees the price of milk, eggs, and meat increasing, while packaged household goods decrease in size rather than price.Loose fiscal policy has failed to create jobs also. Consider that we had a $700 billion TARP program, nearly $1 trillion in stimulus spending, a government takeover of General Motors, and hundreds of billions of dollars of guarantees to Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HUD, FDIC, etc. On top of those programs the Federal Reserve has provided over $4 trillion worth of assistance over the past few years through its credit facilities, purchases of mortgage-backed securities, and now its second round of quantitative easing. Yet even after all these trillions of dollars of spending and bailouts, total nonfarm payroll employment is still seven million jobs lower than it was before this crisis began. In this same period of time, the total U.S. population has increased by nine million people. We would expect that roughly four million of these people should have been employed, so we are really dealing with eleven million fewer employed people than would otherwise be expected.

It should not be surprising that monetary policy is ineffective at creating actual jobs. It is the effects of monetary policy itself that cause the boom and bust of the business cycle that leads to swings in the unemployment rate. By lowering interest rates through its loose monetary policy, the Fed spurs investment in long-term projects that would not be profitable at market-determined interest rates. Everything seems to go well for awhile until businesses realize that they cannot sell their newly-built houses, their inventories of iron ore, or their new cars. Until these resources are redirected, often with great economic pain for all involved, true economic recovery cannot begin.Over $4 trillion in bailout facilities and outright debt monetization, combined with interest rates near zero for over two years, have not and will not contribute to increased employment. What is needed is liquidation of debt and malinvested resources. Pumping money into the same sectors that have just crashed merely prolongs the crisis. Until we learn the lesson that jobs are produced through real savings and investment and not through the creation of new money, we are doomed to repeat this boom and bust cycle.

FBI Calls for Backdoor to Snoop Web
Kurt Nimmo Infowars.com February 18, 2011

The FBI is once again calling for the internet to be converted into a Stasi-like spy grid. Web-based e-mail, social-networking and peer-to-peer services are frustrating law enforcement wiretapping efforts, a lawyer for the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation told lawmakers Thursday, reports PCWorld. The Obama administration will attempt to bribe, coerce, or intimidate web-based services not covered by traditional wiretap laws into helping the government turn the medium into a sprawling high-tech surveillance platform.Valerie Caproni, general counsel at the FBI, reminded the U.S. House Judiciary Committee that the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act, or CALEA, does not cover the internet. CALEA requires traditional telecom carriers to allow law enforcement agencies real-time access to communications.

Instead of forcing ISPs to adopt CALEA, the government will attempt to convince communication providers to build in so-called back doors allowing law enforcement access to their software. Caproni said she’s optimistic the U.S. government can find incentives for companies to have intercept solutions engineered into their systems.
We are not looking for any new authority, she said.We are concerned we are losing ground in actually being able to gather the information we are authorized to have.
Laura Murphy, director of the ACLU Washington Legislative Office, said in a statement that the FBI plan will actually change the structure of the Internet, providing the government with a master key to our online communications.Caproni said the FBI is concerned about the internet being used for criminal activity. “That criminal may be a massive drug dealer, they may be an arms trafficker, they may be a child pornographer or a child molester, she said.We need the actual ability to conduct the wiretaps so we can keep the streets safe. The FBI has a long history of using its authority to monitor and harass political activists. A report by the Electronic Frontier Foundation reveals that since 9/11, the FBI has been responsible for at least 40,000 violations of the law. It has functioned primarily since its inception in the early 1900s as a political police force tasked with going after political activists of all stripes.

In many cases, many of those now under surveillance by the FBI are ordinary American citizens doing nothing more than exercising their First Amendment right to free speech by criticizing the government, writes constitutional attorney John W. Whitehead.Ms. Caproni has sheepishly admitted that the internet continues to stump the FBI and the government. It has allowed activists to coordinate and announce their protest activities. It also represents the greatest single threat to the ruling elite and the government because it allows unfettered dissemination of alternative news that is not reported by the corporate Mockingbird media.Caproni told the House committee the FBI would have recommendations for Congress soon. Representative Hank Johnson, a Georgia Democrat, said Congress is ready to oblige. What are you seeking here today? he asked. What is it exactly that you would want Congress to do?

US keen for EU to adopt controversial anti-counterfeiting treaty
VALENTINA POP 17.02.2011 @ 17:46 CET

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - The US does not support automatic internet cut-offs on the French model, but wants to pursue legally those users who download pirate copies of movies and music. The provision is embedded in a controversial anti-counterfeiting treaty (Acta) pending approval of the European Parliament. It's a very serious problem, not only for US companies, but also for European ones to protect their intellectual property rights, US ambassador to the EU William Kennard told journalists on Wednesday (16 February) in Brussels. The American diplomat expressed his government's eagerness to see the Acta agreement passed this year by the European Parliament. The deal aimed to fight pirated goods worldwide was sealed in December 2010 after four years of secretive negotiations between the US, Canada, Japan, the EU, Switzerland, Morocco, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, South Korea and Singapore. He defended the US government position on anti-piracy laws as being somewhere in the middle between those who advocate against any kind of control of free sharing activities and the more restrictive countries, such as France, where online piracy can lead to Internet cut-offs.We will fight piracy by lawful means, not necessarily a trial, but at least some administrative procedure, so that people don't find that their Internet connection goes black, just because someone thinks they're downloading movies illegally. This doesn't seem right to us, he said.

On the controversial issue of internet service providers (ISPs) tracking and handing over to police traffic data of piracy suspects, Mr Kennard said that this was an unavoidable trend. To some extent, it's becoming self enforcing in the sense that major wireless carriers are finding it really challenging now to keep up with the demand in data usage and one way to do so is to identify bandwidth hogs - some of them are pirates, but many of them are legitimate gamers.According to the final Acta text, governments are allowed to order an online service provider to disclose ... information sufficient to identify a subscriber whose account was allegedly used for infringement ... of trademark or copyright or related rights infringement. The text further stresses the need for these procedures to be implemented in accordance to national law and the preserving of fundamental rights, fair process and privacy.

WRAPUP 5-China rejects key G20 imbalance indicators 12:09pm EST G20 officials at odds on imbalance indicators Fri Feb 18, 2011 12:06pm EST

* China rejects exchange rate and reserves criteria

* Japan says G20 split on how to measure global imbalances

* Fed, BoJ defend loose monetary policy

(Adds EU's Rehn, Canadian, Brazilian ministers)

By Toni Vorobyova and Gernot Heller

PARIS, Feb 18 (Reuters) - China rejected plans to use real exchange rates and currency reserves to measure global economic imbalances, casting doubt on the ability of Group of 20 major economic powers to reach agreement at a meeting on Friday.Speaking shortly before the start of the two-day meeting of finance ministers and central bankers, Chinese Finance Minister Xie Xuren also said the G20 should use trade figures rather than current account balances to assess economic distortions.
G20 countries, which together account for 85 percent of world economic output, are trying to agree on a set of measurements as a basis for economic policy guidelines to avoid a repeat of the 2008 global financial crisis.

China's trade surplus has diminished of late.We think it is not appropriate to use real effective exchange rates and reserves, Xie said at a meeting with Russian, Brazilian and Indian counterparts.Emerging markets, to deal with financial crises and economic shocks, need to set up a certain amount of reserves, he said. The ministers agreed to induct South Africa as the fifth member of the BRICS group of major emerging economies. The hardline Chinese stance highlighted splits over how to define economic imbalances and prescribe action to remedy distortions, although negotiators said several compromise proposals were under discussion. The European Union's economic affairs commissioner, Olli Rehn, said the right indicators to tackle global imbalances included the current account, the real effective exchange rate and currency reserves as well as public and private debt.Especially, the current account account and the real effective exchange rate are essential, Rehn told reporters, adding he was confident there would be a deal.Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said there was already consensus on two indicators measuring public and private debt and negotiations were continuing on other measurements.
Japanese Finance Minister Yoshihiko Noda said he was not sure there would be any agreement this weekend on a set of indicators, as G20 president France had hoped.

COMPROMISES

Differences over the causes of and ways to cure global economic imbalances were also on display at a public debate among the world's top central bankers on Friday.Bank of England Governor Mervyn King, reflecting the view of many Western policymakers, said the world risked protectionism or another financial crisis if policymakers failed to reduce currency distortions and other imbalances. [ID:nAHLIDE7DH]

Chinese central bank governor Zhou Xiaochuan said Beijing would decide the pace of the appreciation of the yuan on its own and would not be swayed by pressure from other countries. Simply adjusting exchange rates would not influence Asians' savings behaviour, he said. [ID:nPISIDE706] [ID:nLDE71G2DH]

While the ministers and central bankers prepared for a meeting with French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who holds the G20 presidency this year, senior officials continued to wrangle over possible compromises.A European source said one possibility was to list a group of indicators -- current accounts, exchange rates, currency reserves, public debt and deficits, and private savings -- while making clear the prime focus would be on current accounts.Another option mooted would allow China to opt out of the balance of payments criterion and use its trade balance instead, two sources involved in the negotiations said.Flaherty said Canada opposed that. [ID:nLDE71H1T4]

France has already run into opposition with its two other G20 priorities -- greater transparency and regulation of commodities prices and a reform of the international monetary system.French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde said she hoped ministers would agree on a preliminary list of indicators in a two-step process leading by the end of the year to guidelines for unwinding imbalances. With world shares near 30-month highs, investors seem content for the G20 to take its time, whereas at the height of the crisis two years ago markets were baying for policy action. Some may view this sort of outcome as a lost opportunity to prevent future risks, but markets would probably not welcome a heavy-handed attempt to subjugate domestic priorities for the sake of external balance, which could be disruptive unless done just right, Barclays Capital wrote in a research note.

AT ODDS ON MONETARY POLICY

In a public debate before the G20 meeting, the U.S. and Japanese central bankers defended their easy money policies against criticism from some emerging countries that they were fuelling disorderly capital flows and commodity price spikes.U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said faster growth in emerging markets and the maintenance of undervalued currencies by some countries had contributed to price rises and unsustainable patterns of global spending. [ID:nNLLIDE7W1]

Bank of Japan Governor Masaaki Shirakawa acknowledged that loose monetary policy in the developed world was pushing capital into emerging economies and helping inflate commodities prices but said it was necessary nonetheless. [ID:nLDE71H068]

Brazilian Finance Minister Guido Mantega said his country would have to take new measures to control capital flows if the inflow of money continued to grow. [ID:nPISIDE70I]

Emerging powerhouses China and India have already raised interest rates to combat inflation and emerging powers complain that hot money risks destabilising their economies, pointing the finger at the Federal Reserve's money printing to pump prime its economy via a $600 billion bond purchase programme. In a paper prepared for the two-day G20 meeting, the International Monetary Fund said euro zone debt tensions still posed a threat to global recovery, while fast-growing emerging nations risked overheating and surging food prices posed an inflationary risk. [ID:nLDE71G1WH]

The U.S. quantitative easing could cause a destabilising flood of capital -- the charge levelled by China and others -- the IMF said, though it conceded this had not happened so far.U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has been urging China to let the yuan rise more swiftly, something Washington says is vital for balanced global growth. But People's Bank of China Governor Zhou said: External pressure has never been an important factor of consideration and we have never paid special attention to it.(Additional reporting by Gui Qing Koh, Louise Egan, Julien Toyer, Catherine Bremer, Toni Vorobyova, Glenn Somerville, Daniel Flynn; Writing by Paul Taylor; editing by Mike Peacock)

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:(HOMOSEXUALITY,AND ALL SEX SINS)
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:(LESBIENS)
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly,(SODOMITES) and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.(AIDS ETC)
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

LGBT and Rainbow Justice By Paul Ibbetson Thursday, February 17, 2011 CANADA FREE PRESS.

As of February 8, 2011, Manhattan, Kansas has created a new mentality for the state. The message is clear: Christians, beware. There is a new sheriff in town that goes by the name of LGBT. The acronym LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender and this organization and those that follow under its rainbow banners now wield the power to start a legalized process that could very well shut down local businesses in the city of Manhattan. This new ordinance alteration sends a clear message that the state itself is in an uncertain state of moral decline. For the gay activist group LGBT, the process for passing a law counter to historical Judeo-Christian values found in the Bible Belt was simple. They just had to keep lobbying and placing pressure on city officials until a liberal voting power block was present that would subvert the majority’s will for the political initiatives of a special interest group. Make no doubt about it, what LGBT and its cohorts are offering Manhattan will be painful and potentially longstanding. The consistently anti-Christian American Civil Liberties Union hosts a page for LGBT and they describe the organization as follows: The LGBT Project fights discrimination and moves public opinion through the courts, legislatures and public education across five issue areas: Relationships, Youth & Schools, Parenting, Gender Identity and Expression and Discrimination in Employment, Housing and other areas.

So how will this discrimination ordinance alteration affect the city itself? In many ways the ordinance is still bizarrely ambiguous. It was passed before the wording was finalized. Yes, the city government went beyond the Nancy Pelosi-esque wording of we need to pass Obamacare so you can see what’s in the bill, to saying in effect, We will pass the ordinance and tell you what the fine print reads later. If you ever wanted to see an example of an out-of-control government, there it is. What we do know is that homosexuals, amongst others, will be able to forward allegations of discrimination against business owners and landlords that may force private Kansas citizens to be brought before a non-elected human rights panel that the city mayor will appoint. The panel, which by its rules will always have an activist member appointed, will have the authority to call witnesses, collect evidence and levy heavy fines. This is a Pandora’s Box and I believe its creators have no true idea of how much it will be used and misused if it is not repealed. The ordinance allows gays to bring preemptive violation charges against citizens they believe may discriminate against them in the future. Unless science can rapidly catch up with the modern liberal version of equality, Manhattan, Kansas has created a city ordinance reminiscent to Tom Cruise’s performance in the science fiction movie Minority Report. That should be a clincher to call this ordinance insane and unenforceable, but there is more. The ordinance has a sloppy and completely incomprehensible definition of gender identity of which one of the byproducts is the need for employers to create gender-identity-acceptable bathrooms and other facilities. What will be the identifiers to designate these facilities? When a town gets to this level of absurdity, who knows, maybe a ? placard will suffice.

I have never been more ashamed to be a Kansan or a citizen of Manhattan than I was when I saw the Christian value of morality and American citizens’ freedom being trampled upon by this radical ordinance alteration. However, the anger I and others feel toward this legislation should be qualified to avoid misconception on such a sensitive subject. Most likely everyone knows a person described within the acronym LGBT. They are true members of our communities, known to us as acquaintances, friends and family. There is no doubt that Christians can, and should continue a respectful dialogue with those whose life choices violate God’s laws. What cannot happen in showing respect to those we disagree with is selling out our biblical values. It is also important to understand where this ordinance alteration stands within our community, state and nation. The LGBT-driven ordinance in Manhattan supersedes individual conversations and exchanges of ideas of morality. The legislation takes the issue of morality into the public square and the heart of our society. In this arena, the nation will be pulled toward the values we accept collectively. Here there is no room for tolerance when it comes to our core Judeo-Christian values and the tone the community sets for the future. If we are honest with ourselves, the dilemma of the ordinance alteration in Manhattan, Kansas, is not a product of a sweeping tide of homosexual support, it is an inevitable outcome when the majority of citizens become lukewarm to the necessity of placing moral conservatives into public office. While we care for those with the deviant lifestyle of homosexuality, they do not share our value system, nor can we acquiesce to their societal demands without facing the ultimate damnation of such a decision. In the end, the repeal of such an affront to Christian values as seen in this recent ordinance alteration by the City of Manhattan is not just something we should consider, it is our responsibility.

Experts say odds of Red River flooding increasing
By DAVE KOLPACK – Thu Feb 17, 5:58 pm ET

Associated Press – The National Weather Service says odds of major flooding along the Red River in Minnesota and North Dakota have increased slightly. The weather service said Thursday that it believes there's a 22 percent chance the river will surpass the record crest of 40.84 feet set in 2009 in Fargo, N.D., and neighboring Moorehead, Minn. Last month's prediction was 20 percent.Meteorologist Greg Gust says recent warm weather has decreased the depth of snowpack in many areas, but the water content remains high and the recent thaw will have little impact on the level of flooding. On the upper Minnesota River in western Minnesota, the chance of major flooding at Montevideo has risen to 90 percent. On the Mississippi, the threat at St. Paul is now 95 to 98 percent.Steve Karnowski contributed to this story from St. Paul, Minn.

Strong winter storm hits Utah, Idaho power, roads
By James Nelson – Thu Feb 17, 10:39 am ET

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (Reuters) – A fierce winter storm rolled into the Salt Lake area overnight causing power outages to 21,000 homes in Utah and southern Idaho and creating havoc on the interstate highway system. It's a really strong cold front. There will be an abrupt change, said Nanette Hosenfeld with the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City.Forecasters said valley locations would receive 1-3 inches of snow and the mountains 1-2 feet before the storm moved out of the region. The winter storm quickly replaced unseasonably mild temperatures that had golf courses busy and had melted much of the winter snowpack in the Salt Lake Valley.Strong gusting winds preceded the snowstorm in northern Utah. Reports of wind damage to homes, yards and trees were commonplace as the winds topped 60 miles per hour in some places.High profile vehicles were having difficulty on portions of the interstate highway system in northern Utah. The Highway Patrol closed some sections of the system until the wind and snow hazards diminished. There were numerous slide-offs, jack-knifed trucks and car accidents. One semi-truck was toppled by the powerful winds, leaving the driver critically injured and the truck submerged in water. The National Weather Service's Hosenfeld told Reuters the winds were officially clocked at 69 miles per hour in central Utah and 85 miles per hour at the Snow Basin ski resort near Ogden. Some ski resorts were forced to close their lifts until the winds subsided.During the peak of the storm 21,000 customers across Utah and in southeastern Idaho were without power.

It's all weather-related, said Margaret Oler, spokeswoman for Rocky Mountain Power. She told Reuters more than 12,000 homes in several Utah communities were still without power at midnight. Crews were working through the night to repair intersection semaphores and power lines. At a Utah Jazz-Golden State Warriors basketball game, a power outage caused dimmed lighting in the 19,000-plus-seat arena and stopped play for a time.Meanwhile much of the Northeast United States was enjoying a dry and mild day on Thursday, with temperatures rising to the 40s in New England and the 60s in the Mid-Atlantic region. In the Plains dry and warm weather will continue in some areas for the next five to 7 days. But colder air moving in from Canada may trigger another snowstorm in the Midwest by early next week.

Scientists connect global warming to extreme rain By SETH BORENSTEIN, AP Science Writer – Wed Feb 16, 3:24 pm ET

WASHINGTON – Extreme rainstorms and snowfalls have grown substantially stronger, two studies suggest, with scientists for the first time finding the telltale fingerprints of man-made global warming on downpours that often cause deadly flooding. Two studies in Wednesday's issue of the journal Nature link heavy rains to increases in greenhouse gases more than ever before. One group of researchers looked at the strongest rain and snow events of each year from 1951 to 1999 in the Northern Hemisphere and found that the more recent storms were 7 percent wetter. That may not sound like much, but it adds up to be a substantial increase, said the report from a team of researchers from Canada and Scotland. The study didn't single out specific storms but examined worst-of-each-year events all over the Northern Hemisphere. While the study ended in 1999, the close of the decade when scientists say climate change kicked into a higher gear, the events examined were similar to more recent disasters: deluges that triggered last year's deadly floods in Pakistan and in Nashville, Tenn., and this winter's paralyzing blizzards in parts of the United States.

The change in severity was most apparent in North America, but that could be because that's where the most rain gauges are, scientists said. Both studies should weaken the argument that climate change is a victimless crime, said Myles Allen of the University of Oxford. He co-authored the second study, which connected flooding and climate change in the United Kingdom. Extreme weather is what actually hurts people.
Jonathan Overpeck, a University of Arizona climate scientist, who didn't take part in either study, praised them as sensible and particularly relevant given the array of extreme weather that we've seen this winter and stretching back over the last few years. Not all the extreme rain and snow events the scientists studied cause flooding. But since 1950, flooding has killed more than 2.3 million people, according to the World Health Organization's disaster database. The British study focused on flooding in England and Wales in the fall of 2000. The disaster cost more than $1.7 billion in insured damages and was the wettest autumn for the region in more than 230 years of record-keeping.Researchers found that global warming more than doubled the likelihood of that flood occurring. Similar studies are now under way to examine whether last year's deadly Russian heat wave and Pakistan floods — which were part of the same weather event — can be scientifically attributed to global warming.

For years scientists, relying on basic physics and climate knowledge, have said global warming would likely cause extremes in temperatures and rainfall. But this is the first time researchers have been able to point to a demonstrable cause-and-effect by using the rigorous and scientifically accepted method of looking for the fingerprints of human-caused climate change. The scientists took all the information that shows an increase in extreme rain and snow events from the 1950s through the 1990s and ran dozens of computer models numerous times. They put in the effects of greenhouse gases — which come from the burning of fossil fuels — and then ran numerous models without those factors. Only when the greenhouse gases are factored in do the models show a similar increase to what actually happened. All other natural effects alone don't produce the jump in extreme rainfall. Essentially, the computer runs show climate change is the only way to explain what's happening. In fact, the computer models underestimated the increase in extreme rain and snow. That is puzzling and could be even more troubling for our future, said Michael Oppenheimer of Princeton University, who wasn't part of the study.Similar fingerprinting studies have found human-caused greenhouse gas emissions triggered changes in more than a dozen other ecological ways: temperatures on land, the ocean's surface, heat content in the depths of the oceans, temperature extremes, sea level pressure, humidity at ground level and higher in the air, general rainfall amounts, the extent of Arctic sea ice, snowpack levels and timing of runoff in the western United States, Atlantic Ocean salinity, wildfire damage, and the height of the lower atmosphere. All those signs say global warming is here, said Xuebin Zhang, a research scientist for the Canadian government and co-author of the Northern Hemisphere study. It is affecting us in multiple directions. Most of the 10 outside climate experts who reviewed the papers for The Associated Press called the research sound and strong.

However, climate scientist Jerry North of Texas A&M University, while praising the work, said he worried that the studies were making too firm a connection based on weather data that could be poor in some locations. But Francis Zwiers of the University of Victoria, a lead author of the study with Zhang, said the data was from National Weather Service gauges and is reliable.Put the two papers together and we start to see an emerging pattern, said Andrew Weaver of the University of Victoria, who wasn't part of either study. We should continue to expect increased flooding associated with increased extreme precipitation because of increasing atmospheric greenhouse gas. And we have no one to blame but ourselves.Online:

MEPs back first EU trade deal under Lisbon Treaty rules
ANDREW WILLIS 17.02.2011 @ 18:19 CET

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - MEPs have given their final approval to a landmark free-trade agreement with South Korea, despite repeated threats over the past year to wield newly-gained Lisbon Treaty powers to sink the controversial deal. In the end, a resounding majority of MEPs in Strasbourg on Thursday (17 February) backed the bilateral agreement which aims to eliminate roughly 98 percent of import duties and other trade barriers in manufactured goods, agricultural products and services over the next five years. The European Commission estimates the FTA will create new trade in goods and services worth €19.1 billion for the EU and save EU exporters €1.6 billion a year, but for South Korea, the deal is more about geopolitics than cutting trading costs, says a leading expert in the field.China is increasingly using its economic clout to put pressure on South Korea and Japan. We are seeing a re-instatement of the Middle Kingdom, Hosuk Lee-Makiyama, a director with the European Centre for International Political Economy, told EUobserver. The FTA for South Korea is mainly about diversifying away from China. The geopolitics are far more important over there and it has come as a surprise to the EU, added the Brussels-based think-tanker.Euro deputies on Thursday also approved a special safeguard clause, thrashed out with EU member states last December, designed to shield the European car industry from an excessive increase in cheaper imports from South Korea.Under the clause, both industry and the European Parliament can call on the European Commission to launch an investigation into whether EU producers face serious injury from a surge in imports, potentially leading to a return of higher import duties.

Originally initialled in October 2009 by former EU trade commissioner Catherine Ashton, the deal is considered the jewel in the EU's crown of bilateral FTAs, increasingly sought as the Doha round of multilateral trade talks hit the buffers in recent years. A year ago however, speculation was rife within trade circles that the South Korean FTA could be the first to fall under the bloc's new Lisbon Treaty rules, which handed MEPs powers to formally approve or reject international trade deals for the first time. Negotiated under the EU's old Nice Treaty rules, many MEPs were frustrated by their inability to shape the far-reaching agreement. Alarmist cries from the European car sector and a tough economic recession added to the wave of anti-deal rhetoric emanating from a considerable number of officials. The Italian government also threatened to scupper the deal until the very end, winning a delayed entry into force of 1 July 2011.Some Green MEPs continued to voice concerns over weak social and environmental standards after the vote on Thursday. Among the more odious provisions of the agreement, the EU succeeded in pushing Korea to massage its rules on car CO2 emissions to allow European car makers to export more big gas-guzzling cars to Korea, said French MEP Yannick Jadot, a vice-chairman of parliament's trade committee. One issue which raised earlier concerns, the question of North Korea's Kaesong Industrial Region, was largely kicked into touch for the moment.

Opened in December 2004, the special administrative industrial region located ten kilometres north of the Korean demilitarised zone is a home to over 100 South Korean factors as part of a rapprochement project pushed by the Hyundai family of car manufacturing fame.A number of MEPs had raised concerns that inclusion of the Kaesong Industrial Region in the FTA would open the door for North Korean exports into the EU, currently banned due Pyongyang's continued repression of citizens. The country's dictator, Kim Jong-Il, reportedly scaled down his 69th birthday celebrations this week amid widespread food shortages.Under the FTA, a committee of EU and South Korean experts will decide whether individual products from Kaesong should be granted access to the EU market.

Van Rompuy to soothe nerves on crisis pact tour
LEIGH PHILLIPS 17.02.2011 @ 19:01 CET

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - European Council head Herman Van Rompuy has begun a tour of eastern non-eurozone states to soothe nerves over a Franco-German economic masterplan for eurozone countries only.On Thursday (17 February), Mr Van Rompuy visited Tallinn for meetings with the Estonian president and prime minister. Later the same day, he went to Riga in the for talks with Latvia's heads of state and government. On Friday, he will go to Vilnius and next week to the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Romania. The president aims to chat with all eurozone states and any other interested non-euro-area nations on the subject competitiveness and to give a boost to convergence on economic policy. The goal is little different from that of the Franco-German Competitiveness Pact - a package of structural reforms for eurozone economies designed to tackle economic imbalances and convince markets that the EU has solved its member states' sovereign debt crises. Mr Van Rompuy hopes to undo the political damage done by Berlin and Paris' presentation of their pact as a fait accompli and to shepherd through a comprehensive solution for all EU countries.

In what he described as a rethink that restarts the discussion from zero, the consultations will also be done in association with the commission. I want to have an open and inclusive discussion with member states on how to achieve a higher degree of economic policy co-ordination, he said in a statement.I will listen to all and I will also test my own ideas. The president is to present a set of concrete proposals at the scheduled 11 March summit for government chiefs from eurozone states.EU diplomats describe the current situation as something like a chaos with a sharp tone in debate among member states. Divisions remain between Germany, the Netherlands and Austria on the one hand and southern, more indebted states on the other, over the question of whether or not to expand the bloc's current bail-out fund. While there is agreement on a future €500 billion permanent rescue fund, Berlin, Amsterdam and Vienna have said that if the overall solution sufficiently soothes markets, there is no need for any top-up to the current European Financial Stability Facility. Portugal meanwhile is nervous, as bond yields begin to tick upwards once again. And non-eurozone eastern states are aghast that far-reaching decisions are likely to be on 11 March without their imput, setting up a two-tier EU.

A diplomat from one eastern state told EUobserver: We would love to be invited. But Germany however is adamant that while future eurozone summits will be open to outsiders, this one is not.

Outsiders spooked

Non-eurozone countries have a series of concerns with the Competitiveness Pact, which will hit them directly when they join the euro in future.Tax harmonisation is something that would be very difficult to accept for the Czech Republic, as it would make the country less competitive, Czech Prime Minister Petr Necas said on Thursday.
The raising and harmonising of retirement ages would be unfair as people with lower average living standards than those in the west do not live as long, Baltic countries have said.In the case of Poland and Denmark, which also does not use the single currency, the Franco-German imperious style is a bigger problem than substance. It is understood that Warsaw backs every one of the pact's six key demands. Poland already has a debt-lock law on the books, another of the pact's main proposals and is quite relaxed about tax and pensions harmonisation. Denmark also supports the pact, pending details of what is finally put on the table - the current Franco-German document is merely an outline a few paragraphs long.

Belgium says No

Indeed, there is more opposition to the pact inside the eurozone. Belgium is flat-out against an end to inflation-indexed wage systems and Austria, normally close to Germany on most economic questions, says that a common European retirement age is unrealistic. The bigger concern of Berlin is how to invite those non-eurozone countries that are willing to co-operate without inviting others that are opposed to further European integration, notably the UK.The main problem is what to do about the UK. That's why there is hesitation about inviting everyone, said one EU source.

Syria to EU: tackle Israel, not Egypt for Middle East peace
ANDREW RETTMAN 17.02.2011 @ 18:44 CET

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - The EU should take firm action against Israeli settlement-building and human rights abuses instead of playing politics in Egypt if it wants to calm tension in the Middle East, Syria's ambassador to the Union has said.Speaking to EUobserver in Brussels on Wednesday (16 February), Mohamad Ayman Soussan said the main danger of conflict in the region comes from the Arab-Israeli problem not the revolution in Egypt or Tunisia. Our European friends have a responsibility here, because Europe is the principal economic partner of Israel. They have all the means at their disposal to make Israel reconsider its position vis-a-vis international law. Europe must assume this responsibility if it ever intends to take its rightful place in the international order, he explained.Where in Europe do you see such a level of brutality against demonstrators? Where do you see roads that can be used only by one kind of people? Israel practices apartheid and the EU assists this everyday through its ongoing relations. The ambassador added that outside forces - including Syria, the EU and the US - have no rightful say on Egypt's new government.

We have full confidence in the Egyptian people. They sacrificed almost 500 lives for this revolution and I believe the people of Egypt know very well what they must do ... democracy cannot be a la carte, he said. One has to treat the people of this region as adults, not as children.Asked if post-revolutionary Egypt could become hostile toward Israel, he noted that ordinary Egyptians never shared the Mubarak regime's pro-Israeli line. The peace with Israel was always cold. There is a peace treaty between Egypt and Israel. But this was never a real peace, he said. Mr Soussan did not hide his antipathy toward the Israeli authorities. Asked if there is a risk that Egypt could let arms flow to Hamas in Gaza, he countered: Was support for the European resistance against the Nazis a crime? The ambassador said that EU countries played a negative role in events leading up to the Egyptian and Tunisian upheavals. The two regimes which fell were Europe's foremost allies. There was a feeling of discontentment in these two countries about the foreign policy orientation of the two regimes, he said. I wouldn't go that far [as to blame the EU or the US for the revolutions]. But I would ask, were the Europeans faithful to their values in supporting these regimes?

Going back further to selected EU countries' support for the US invasion of Iraq, Mr Soussan said that the Iraq war put a brake on the reform process in the Arab world.
After the invasion in 2003, stability became the main priority of all the countries in the region. We did not want to become a second Iraq. When people saw the example of Iraq, they wanted stability above all else. They wanted to know that when they left home in the morning, their country would still be there when they returned at night. On the internal situation in Syria, the ambassador admitted that reforms need to be made and that there is a small group which is unhappy with President Bashar al-Assad.But he pointed to the fact that 50,000 Sunni Muslims peacefully celebrated the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed at a ceremony with the president in Damascus on Tuesday as a sign that there is no uprising on the cards. On the one hand, the EU embassy in Damascus on Wednesday said it profoundly regrets the jailing on spy charges of a 19-year-old blogger called Tal Al-Mallouhi. And EU diplomats in the region say the country's security forces keep down dissent. But on the other hand, the EU welcomed Damascus' recent decision to end a years-long blockade on Facebook and YouTube. The Union is in advanced negotiations on an Association Agreement with Syria and EU diplomats say that Syrian society is relatively open in terms of free speech and freedom of worship.

11 And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.
12 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.

ISAIAH 33:1,18-19 Woe to thee that spoilest,(destroys) and thou wast not spoiled;(destroyed) and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! when thou shalt cease to spoil,(destroy) thou shalt be spoiled;(destroyed) and when thou shalt make an end to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee.
18 Thine heart shall meditate terror. Where is the scribe? where is the receiver? where is he that counted the towers?
19 Thou shalt not see a fierce people, a people of a deeper speech than thou canst perceive; of a stammering tongue, that thou canst not understand.

JOHN 16:2
2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

Four Israeli Embassies, Consulates Reported Shut Down
by Gil Ronen FEB 17,11

Four Israeli embassies and consulates have been temporarily shut down due to a mounting terror threat, according to foreign press. Turkish newspaper Hurriet reported that the Israeli embassy in Ankara and the consulate in Istanbul are among the diplomatic missions that have shut their doors. The Counter-Terror Bureau has cited, in recent days, a growing threat of the imminent execution of terror attacks against Jewish and Israeli targets abroad, with emphases on Egypt, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Ivory Coast, Mali, Mauritania and Venezuela. The Bureau urges Israelis traveling to these countries to avoid places where there are concentrations of Israelis, and to obey the instructions of local law-enforcement authorities. The state of high alert is due to the third anniversary of the demise of Hizbullah super-terrorist Imad Mughniyeh in February of 2008. Hassan Nasrallah, who leads Iranian proxy militia Hizbullah in Lebanon, spoke Wednesday in Beirut on the anniversary of Mughniyeh's death and threatened Israel. He said that despite the time that had passed since Mughniyeh's assassination, revenge would come about.

I say to the commanders and Zionist generals, wherever you may go in the world, anyplace and at any time, you must always guard your heads, because the blood of Imad Mughniyeh was not spilled in vain.Nasrallah quoted Defense Minister Ehud Barak as telling IDF soldiers that they must be prepared for the possibility of re-entering Lebanon, if war breaks out, and warned: I want to tell the incoming chief of staff Gantz, the outgoing chief of staff Ashkenazi, and Defense Minister Barak: if Israel forces a war upon Lebanon, I will ask the soldiers of Hizbullah to take control of the Galilee. In response to Nasrallah's threats, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak advised him to stay in his bunker.(IsraelNationalNews.com)

Israeli Derby Missile to Arm New Indian Fighter
by Gil Ronen FEB 18,11

India’s new Tejas fighter will be armed with Israel’s Derby missile, according to Indian website LiveMint. The Derby is medium-range active-radar seeker air-to-air missile, that can hit targets at about 50 km. away. Missiles that can achieve this range are known by the acronym BVR - beyond visual range.A contract for supplying the Derby will be signed by March with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. Rafael will also fit the missiles on about 200 jets, according to P.S. Subramanya, director of India’s Aeronautical Development Agency, which is developing the light combat aircraft. The Indian Air Force (known, like its Israeli counterpart, as the IAF) has ordered 40 Tejas fighters to be built. The Indian Air Force also wants 100 units of the Mk-II version of the fighter, and the navy wants 60 of the naval versions, Subramanya said. The jet recently obtained restricted initial operational clearance, with a full clearance targeted for December 2012, LiveMint said. In order to obtain full clearance, the jets need to integrate a BVR missile - therefore, delivery of the missiles is expected in the second half of 2012.

India’s Sea Harrier jets carry Derby missiles. Rafael's Python missile, closely related to the Derby, was also an option for the Tejas, Subramanya stated. In the past decade, as the Muslim world grows more religious and bellicose, Israel has been forging ever-closer ties with natural allies that also face a Muslim threat. These include India and may soon include South Sudan.(IsraelNationalNews.com)

PM Netanyahu on Revolutions: Some Good, Some Bad
by Hillel Fendel FEB 17,11

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu says that though some revolutions have brought about positive results, others have not, such as those in Russia 100 years ago, Iran and Lebanon. In Egypt, he said, Israel's main concern is that Egypt not resume the state of war with Israel.

The Prime Minister addressed the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations on Wednesday night in Jerusalem. Excerpts:…I've spoken in recent weeks about the shifting sands between India and Gibraltar, between Pakistan and Morocco. I've been through one or two sandstorms in my life, and I found being in a sandstorm, the two most important things that you need is not to lose sight of where you are - and not to lose sight of where you are going. You have to maintain a clear sense of place and a clear sense of direction. Two weeks ago, in a speech I gave in the Knesset, I said that everyone is watching this sandstorm [in Egypt]. I said that leaders and policymakers in Washington, London, Paris and Berlin were voicing strong support for the protesters in Cairo. But I also pointed out that, at the same time, these same protesters were supported in Tehran.

Two Opposing Visions of Egypt's Future
“Now, there is one thing I can assure you: the leaders in the West and the leaders in Tehran do not want the same future for Egypt. American and European leaders want an Egypt that is free, democratic, peaceful and prosperous... They want an Egypt that is at peace with its neighbors and that promotes stability throughout the region. On the other hand, the leaders in Tehran: they want to see an Egypt that is ruled by that same iron despotism that has crushed human rights in Iran for the last three decades... They want an Egypt that will break the peace with Israel - that will join Iran in supporting terrorism and promoting bloodshed throughout the region and in many parts of the world. So there is a question here. How can these two visions so diametrically opposed to one another both find hope in the protests in the streets and squares of Cairo? The answer to that is very simple: no one knows what the future in Egypt will bring. People in Washington don't know. People in Tehran don't know. Now this may be hard for some of you to believe – but even columnists for the New York Times don't know.Changing the status quo can definitely lead to a better outcome. This happened two decades ago in Berlin, in Prague and in Bucharest. In 1989, the great change in Eastern Europe we can now say for certain was definitely for the better. But change can also lead to worse outcomes - worse for freedom, worse for human rights, worse for peace. In 1917 there was great change and great hope when three months of the Kerensky government were followed by 70 years of Soviet darkness. In 1979, there was a genuine hope for democracy and progress in Iran, but a few months of the Bachtiar government gave way to 30 years of militant Islamic darkness. This is also happening in Lebanon today.

You remember that a few years ago, five years ago, hundreds of thousands of Lebanese poured into the squares of Beirut? … The calls for freedom that they chanted there, spearheaded by the Cedar Revolution in Lebanon, were no less authentic than the calls for freedom that are now heard in Cairo. Those protesters also had the support of the free world. They seem to herald a new day for Lebanon, a new dawn, a new beginning, new possibilities... But this is not what Iran planned for Lebanon, and they worked very hard in these past five years to ensure that Lebanon has a different future.Five years later, Lebanon has been taken over - de facto - by Hizbullah, a terror organization that respects no human rights, that crushes human rights into the dust, that brutalizes its own people, that spreads terror throughout the Middle East, that rockets Israel... Just today, Hizbullah's leader announced that he intends to conquer the Galilee. I have news for you: he won't. [In Hebrew:] Anyone hiding in the bunker [a reference to Hizbullah chieftain Nasrallah] should stay in the bunker. Let no one doubt Israel's strength or our ability to defend ourselves……As Prime Minister of Israel, I am responsible for the security of over 7 million Israelis who live in the one and only Jewish state. I cannot simply hope for the best; I must also prepare for the worst. Part of that preparation is to alert the leaders and policymakers around the world to the possible dangers that may lie ahead… because I have a responsibility to do whatever I can to increase the chances that they don't materialize…Ultimately, the people of Egypt are those who will decide their own fate. But Israel cannot profess a neutrality as to the outcome. Because above all, we want the Egyptian government to remain committed to the peace with Israel.(IsraelNationalNews.com)

22% Religious Among New IDF Officers
by Hillel Fendel FEB 17,11

Among the 377 new IDF officers who received their ranks in a festive ceremony in Mitzpeh Ramon yesterday are 18 females (4.8%) and 83 religious officers (22%).It was also reported that 18.5% of the new officers live in kibbutzim, moshavim and the like, nearly 20% live in communal towns, and 61.5% live in cities.IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz said at the ceremony, just two days after being installed in his new position, We now face significant operational security challenges. Possible terrorist acts and war dangers obligate the State of Israel, which constantly pursues peace, to maintain a strong and ready military force that is prepared for any mission entrusted to it.Gantz was to meet today with Defense Minister Ehud Barak to discuss 165 officers’ promotions that have been delayed because of the tensions between Barak and the outgoing Chief of Staff, Gabi Ashkenazi. A half-year ago, Barak surprised Ashkenazi by telling him that he did not plan to approve any promotions he (Ashkenazi) would make, and that there was no sense in his even considering them.A Lt.-Col. may be promoted to Colonel, and a Colonel to a Brigadier General, by the Chief of Staff without the consent of the Defense Minister, but the latter must agree when the Chief of Staff wishes to promote a Brig.-Gen. to Maj.-Gen. There are other appointments that require the Defense Minister’s consent as well.(IsraelNationalNews.com)

Regional jitters as Bahrain faces flashpoint funerals
By Cynthia Johnston - FEB 18,11

MANAMA (Reuters) – Parts of the Middle East and Arab North Africa could see renewed displays of public anger toward their governments on Friday as protesters in Bahrain bury four people killed when police broke up an activist camp.Crowds have taken to the streets in Libya, Yemen, Iran and Bahrain in recent days demanding at the very least more representation and at the most the overthrow of governments. The protests, inspired by popular revolts in Tunisia and Egypt that saw veteran leaders of both countries driven out of office, has forced the authorities to react, sometimes with fatal consequences. In Bahrain, troops in armored vehicles took control of the capital after police firing buckshot and teargas pushed out hundreds of protesters who had camped out overnight in central Pearl Square. It was the worst violence in the Saudi-allied Gulf island kingdom in decades and a sign of the nervousness felt by Bahrain's Sunni al-Khalifa royal family, long aware of simmering discontent among the country's majority Shi'ites. The sectarian aspect of the violence in Bahrain, home to the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet, could fuel discontent among the Shi'ite minority in neighboring Saudi Arabia, the world's biggest oil exporter. The unrest in the region helped push Brent crude prices to a 28-month high of $104 a barrel on Thursday and were a factor in gold prices extending early gains to five-week highs.

FUNERALS MAY SERVE AS RALLYING POINT

The funerals of four people killed in Thursday's pre-dawn raid in Manama were expected to be held on Friday and could well serve as a rallying point for protesters. One protester was killed this week while attending the funeral of an activist. There is going to be violence, there is going to be clashes, a protester called Sayed told BBC television early on Friday of the planned funerals.Bahrain is going into a really dark tunnel, he said, adding he feared for his safety. If they (the authorities) knew my name, I might lose my job, I might lose my life. The army in Bahrain, a country of 1.3 million people of whom 600,000 are native Bahrainis, has issued a warning to people to stay away from the center of the capital and said it would do whatever was needed to maintain security.Protesters in the region have been following events in neighboring countries, many via social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, and will again be watching for signs whether Friday, a day of rest for many Muslims, will herald fresh demonstrations. In Egypt, demonstrations often heated up on Friday after afternoon prayers. On Thursday in Yemen, four protesters were killed in the port of Aden in demonstrations that began seven days ago and which showed no signs of abating.Demonstrators want to be rid of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who has ruled for 32 years but is seen by Washington as a key ally in its fight against al Qaeda militants based in Yemen. In Libya, there have been unverified reports on social networks of up to 50 deaths following demonstrations that were a rare show of defiance against leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Such reports were very hard to verify. And it was uncertain whether protesters would seek to push on from Thursday's day of rage pitting protesters against police and supporters of the Libyan leader. The protest, which secured backing in the eastern city of Benghazi, had little or no signs of support in the capital Tripoli, where a pro-Gaddafi crowd held a rally. In Iraq on Thursday, two people were killed and 47 were injured when police opened fire on anti-government protesters in the northern city of Sulaimaniya.Leaders from the Gulf to the Atlantic have announced a variety of measures to ease rising food prices and unemployment and to enhance political participation. The oil-rich United Arab Emirates said on Thursday it would treble the number of people the rulers would choose to vote for members of an advisory body that serves as a form of parliament.

Middle Eastern leaders also have tightened security.

Western powers have been caught in a dilemma between backing rulers whom they see as bulwarks against anti-Western Islamists and at the same time being seen to promote democracy. In Bahrain, Saudi and Western officials fear majority rule could help their adversaries in Shi'ite-ruled Iran.U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Washington supported real, meaningful change in Bahrain, which she called a friend and ally, and called on the government to show restraint.(Writing by Matthew Jones; Editing by Ron Popeski)

Egypt pro-democracy activists plan victory march
By Marwa Awad and Dina Zayed – Thu Feb 17, 7:13 pm ET

CAIRO (Reuters) – Egyptian pro-democracy leaders plan a victory march in Cairo on Friday to celebrate the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak's 30-year rule last week, and perhaps remind the military of the power of the street. The Higher Military Council which took over after the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak last week is under pressure from activists demanding the release of political prisoners, the lifting of emergency rule and fair elections soon.Life in Egypt is still far from normal almost a week after the popular revolt focused on Cairo's Tahrir (Liberation) Square, with tanks on the streets, banks closed, workers on strike and schools shut.Tomorrow will be a million people march to protect the revolution and its demands, Mohanned tweeted. We will welcome everyone to the new Egypt. A new country that started in Tahrir square. A country of unity, peace, freedom and justice for all, Laila said on Facebook.

Other groups planned a simultaneous demonstration to apologize to Mubarak for the way he was ousted and recognize his achievements in almost 30 years in power. Organizers said the Mubarak sympathizers would be wearing black, with the victory marchers in white. The marches, starting in different parts of Cairo, were expected to gather momentum after midday prayers. Demonstrations were also likely in the port of Alexandria. An Islamic website said Egyptian cleric Sheikh Yousef al-Qaradawi, famous for his weekly appearance on Al Jazeera television, might speak in Tahrir Square.Qaradawi arrived at Cairo airport on Thursday. Onislam.net said he would deliver a sermon telling Egyptians the importance of their role in building a free and democratic society. The army has kept the population on its side during the turmoil and promised to lift a decades-old emergency law, but is under pressure from activists who spearheaded the revolution to act swiftly to protect civil freedoms in the new Egypt. An Egyptian prosecutor on Thursday ordered the detention of three ex-ministers and a prominent businessman pending trial on suspicion of wasting public funds.

Suspicions of official graft helped fuel the popular anger that led to Mubarak's overthrow. The charges are seen as a move by the army-led interim government to quell the unrest. Also on Thursday, Amnesty International called on the military to stop using torture and other ill-treatment.The military authorities must intervene to end torture and other abuse of detainees, which we now know to have been taking place in military custody, Amnesty said in a statement.Tomorrow in Tahrir, we will press for firm steps against the abuses of the police and the Interior Ministry, we will call for the release of all political prisoners, Wael Khalil tweeted.

OPPOSITION MOBILISES

The army is pledging to hand power to civilian parties when they are strong enough. Opposition forces sidelined or enfeebled under Mubarak's authoritarian rule are beginning to mobilize.Youth leaders moved to set up a new political party on Thursday. The Muslim Brotherhood, which says it seeks to achieve a democratic Islamic state by peaceful means, is seen as the only truly organized bloc in Egypt and believes it could win up to 30 percent of votes in a free election. The group has a member on a committee responsible for amending the constitution and a council set up by activists to protect the revolution. It has said it will set up as a political party as soon as laws are changed to let it and others do so.Inspired by Egypt, and a Tunisian uprising before that, protesters have taken to the streets across the Middle East and North Africa. Bahrain has cracked down on anti-government protesters and clashes were reported in Libya and Yemen.Iran has created a headache for Egypt's new rulers by saying two of its naval vessels will pass through the Suez Canal, a move Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, a far-right partner in the governing coalition, called provocative. It was not clear when the Iranian ships were due to arrive at the southern end of the Suez Canal. A senior canal official said it had received no notification so far. Any naval crossing needs approval from Egypt's foreign and defense ministries.(Additional reporting by Sarah Mikhail, Edmund Blair and Alexander Dziadosz; Writing by Tom Pfeiffer; Editing by Andrew Dobbie)

Deadly clashes on Libya's day of protest
Thu Feb 17, 4:45 pm ET

TRIPOLI (Reuters) – Deadly clashes broke out in several towns in Libya on Thursday after the opposition called for protests against leader Muammar Gaddafi in a rare show of defiance inspired by uprisings in other Arab states.Tight controls on media and communications in Libya made it difficult to assess the extent of the violence there. Unrest has spread across North Africa and the Middle East since the fall of the leaders of Tunisia and Egypt.A resident in the eastern city of Benghazi said at least five people had been killed in nearby towns. With phone lines out of order and access barred for journalists, it was impossible to establish an exact death toll.

In the capital of the oil-exporting country there was no sign of unrest, a Reuters reporter said, apart from a group of pro-Gaddafi demonstrators in the city's Green Square chanting We are defending Gaddafi! and waving his portrait.Opponents of Gaddafi, Africa's longest-serving ruler after more than 40 years in power, had used social media to call for protests on Thursday to try to emulate the revolts which unseated rulers in neighboring Tunisia and Egypt. The source in Benghazi, who said he had been in contact with people in the nearby town of Al Bayda, said two young men had been killed there on Wednesday and three more had died in clashes after their burial. The same source said there were reports of several deaths in Ajdabiya, about 160 km (100 miles) west of Benghazi.Gaddafi's opponents say they want political freedoms, respect for human rights and an end to corruption. Gaddafi says Libyans enjoy true democracy. The worst clashes appeared to have taken place in the eastern Cyrenaica region centered on Benghazi, where support for Gaddafi has historically been weaker than in other parts of the country.Earlier, a resident in Al Bayda told Reuters by telephone: The situation is still complicated ... The young people do not want to listen to what the elders say.Phone connections to the town, which is 200 km from Benghazi, were not working on Thursday evening and officials were barring journalists from flying to Benghazi from Tripoli.Libya's Quryna newspaper reported that the regional security chief had been removed from his post over the deaths of protesters in Al Bayda.

TRUCE OFFER

Rights watchdog Amnesty International said security forces opened fire on protesters in Al Bayda, killing a man it named as Nacer Miftah Gout'ani. The Libyan authorities tried to smother this protest before it even got off the ground but that, clearly, did not work. Now they are resorting to brutal means to punish and deter the protestors, the group said in a statement.A group calling itself the Citizens' Forces of Eastern Libya issued a declaration urging an end to the clashes, saying the government would use violence as a pretext to ignore demands for freedom and justice. The declaration, obtained by Reuters, proposed a truce until March 2 to give the regime an opportunity to show its commitment toward transparency and accountability. A source close to the group said it included influential members of Libya's ruling establishment.Snatches of information about the protests were trickling out from parts of the country on an Arabic-language page used by opposition activists on Facebook, the social networking site. One post said protesters in Ar Rajban near the border with Algeria set fire to a local government headquarters. In Zenten, south-west of Tripoli, protesters shouted we will win or die, said another post, which had a photograph of a building on fire.In the capital, traffic was moving as normal, banks and shops were open and there was no increased security presence.

Political analysts say the government's oil wealth gives it the capability to smooth over social problems and reduce the risk of an Egypt-style revolt. We have problems, Mustafa Fetouri, a Tripoli-based political analyst and university professor, told Reuters. This is a society that is still behind in many ways, there are certain legitimate problems that have to be sorted out. However, he said: I do not really see it (unrest) spreading ... Gaddafi remains well respected. On the eve of Thursday's protests, SMS messages were sent to mobile phone subscribers throwing down a challenge to anti-Gaddafi protesters. From the youth of Libya .... Come and face us in any square or street in Libya, it said.(Additional reporting by Hamid Ould Ahmed and Lamine Chikhi in Algiers; writing by Christian Lowe)

U.S. sees N. Korea provocations but not missile test
By Paul Eckert – Thu Feb 17, 5:30 pm ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – North Korea shows no signs it will test a missile soon, but succession politics in Pyongyang point to new provocative acts in months and not years, the commander of U.S. military forces in the Pacific said on Thursday. There are no signs that I'm aware of that they're preparing for a near-term missile test, said Navy Admiral Robert Willard, head of the U.S. Pacific Command.Willard declined to comment in detail on the capabilities of what satellite images show is a newly completed second North Korea long range missile launchpad at Tongchang-ri near the North's northwestern border with China. But Willard, visiting Washington from his base in Hawaii, described North Korea's missiles as a growing, global threat. The continued development of their ballistic missile capabilities, combined with their continued development of nuclear weapons, is problematic for the Korean peninsula, it's problematic for Northeast Asia, it's problematic for the international community, he said at a think tank event in Washington.

Willard predicted that with ailing North Korea leader Kim Jong-il, 69, preparing his son Kim Jong-un for succession, Pyongyang was likely to resume the cycle of provocations against the South that last year saw two attacks that killed 50 South Koreans. We may very well be facing the next provocation in months and not years, he said. The sinking of the South Korean warship Cheonan in March and the shelling of Yeonpyeong island in November follow a very long line of provocative acts that began with Kim Il-sung, Kim Jong-il's father, said Willard. The handover of power to Kim Jong-il from his father played out over two decades until the elder Kim's death in 1994, and North Korea often waited years between attacks such as the bombing of the South's cabinet in Myanmar in 1983 and the downing of a South Korean passenger jet in 1987.Now, however, Willard said the United States was concerned about a compressed time line between attacks during the handover to Kim Jong-un, the untested third generation of dynastic rule in Pyongyang.South Korea's level of tolerance of a next provocation appears to be very low, he said.

The North is developing the so-called Taepodong-2 missile, with an estimated range of 4,160 miles, but testing so far suggests production of the complete weapon is a long way off.The North's arsenal already includes intermediate-range missiles that can hit targets up to 1,860 miles away, officials say, putting all of Japan and U.S. military bases in Guam at risk.North Korea detonated nuclear devices in 2006 and 2009, and conducted long-range missile tests three times -- in 1998, 2006 and 2009.
