According toformer senior White House aide and White House Jewish Liaison Tevi Troy, despite the assumption that Jewish citizens of the US traditionally vote for Democrats and not Republicans, there is a shift in the Jewish already taking place at the state level.In an article published last week in Politico, Troy pointed out that ationally, Jews are only about 2 percent of the US population, but are heavily represented in big cities and have disproportionately high voter turnout rates. He added that while Democrats do get the lion’s share of the Jewish vote, some Jewish groups such as the Orthodox Jews have shifted to the Republicans, a fact which can be seen in the 2004 elections, when 70 percent of Orthodox Jews supported George W. Bush.The picture is completely different at the state level, according to Troy. One example he brings is that of the Republican New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who in 2009 attracted 38 percent of the Jewish vote.For this reason, it is worth paying close attention to the Jewish vote in close Senate races in states with significant Jewish populations, writes Troy and brings the example of the complicated Pennsylvania race,where Republican-turned-Democrat Jewish senator, Arlen Specter, is involuntarily leaving. In Philadelphia, the Democratic nominee, Joe Sestak, signed the Gaza 54 letter, which called for Washington to pressure Israel to end the Gaza blockade. This fact alone might cause the Jewish voters to vote Republican.

Other examples where Jews might vote for the Republican candidates include Florida, where former Republican-turned-independent Charlie Crist, who is being endorsed by Jewish former Democratic Rep. Robert Wexler, might split the traditionally Democratic Jewish vote with the Democratic candidate Kendrick Meek, causing a boost for Republican Marco Rubio.New Jersey’s 12th district is another important area. Scott Sipprelle is challenging Rush Holt, another Gaza 54 letter signer. While she agreed that Troy could be right that this year could be different, she added: Don't look for huge numbers of Jewish votes for Republicans, however. It will be enough of a watershed moment if a critical mass of Jews stay home because they have finally soured on the Democratic Party and that helps Republican candidates to win.The Associated Press reported meanwhile that both Israelis and PA Arabs are closely watching the upcoming midterm race in the US, sensing that its results could affect both the peace talks as well as Obama's ability to coax concessions from Israel.

The report said that the Arabs are hoping that Obama’s mild reaction to Israel’s refusal to continue the construction freeze in Judea and Samaria has been due to political consideration, and that he would be freer to apply pressure on Israel after the vote November 2.Speaking to The Associated Press, PA negotiator Nabil Shaath said: We think that if President Obama emerges strong from this election, then this will enable him to work more on foreign policy. If he and his party lose in the elections, then this will limit his ability to pressure and actively engage in foreign policy. The synod, which the pope himself carefully prepared at great length in June ( see Instrumentum Laboris) has become the tool by which this crusader pope plans to destroy, delegitimize, dismantle, attack, convert, and conquer Jewish Israel. This synod is a repeat, on a much larger scale, of the events we saw last May, after he convened bishops of various denominations in Jerusalem. The same players as are to be found in Kairos Palestine below, Pax Christi, were also major players in the World Council of Churches campaign last June, which culminated in a year of anti-Israel incitement, antisemitic attacks worldwide, UN denunciations of Israel, etc. etc., while the Franciscans, as Custodians of the Holy Places, are the crusader order par excellence.The pope was behind those anti-Israel attacks then, and he is behind this new wave now. And we have seen nothing yet, as he has pulled out all the stops: besides the Synod, see the upcoming Mediterranean Union Conference, of which he is an active participant, nay, actually the MASTERMIND, and which also spells the end of Israel. See his political activism on the international scene, which is currently being held up by Obama's domestic woes; see his political activism at the UN, his request that the UN become involved in solving the problem of Palestine. Not to forget his involvement with the NATO College of Rome, which he personally blessed in March 2010, the month that same college did a study on how best to conquer Israel and concluded that militarily it was impossible, therefore advising stepped up pressure on Jews of Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem, which we are witnessing every single day in the form of attacks, maiming and murders of Jews, etc.

New Terrorists Come From Within US

The newest terrorists against America are potentially a bigger threat since they come from within, according to a series of NPR reports recently published.One such example is Adnan Shukrijumah, who is considered the highest-ranking American in al-Qaeda and believed by Intelligence officials to be the successor of the mastermind of the September 11 terror attacks, Khalid Sheik Mohammed.Adnan Shukrijumah was born in 1975 and grew up in Trinidad and Saudi Arabia. In the 1990s he began to occasionally visit Brooklyn and eventually moved with his mother and five brothers and sisters to Florida. He even took classes at Broward College for several years, where he studied chemistry in the late 1990s and never graduated.Shukrijumah was recently implicated in a plot to bomb transportation targets in and around New York City. The suspect in that case, longtime American resident Najibullah Zazi, had traveled to Afghanistan in hopes of fighting US troops there, but was convinced by an American al-Qaeda operative to return to the US and strike there instead. That operative was Shukrijumah, who was identified through a videotape of a presentation he gave in an English class at Broward College.As Joe Billy, former assistant director of the counterterrorism division at FBI headquarters in Washington, told NPR, operatives like Shukrijumah are particularly dangerous because they chooses operatives who know their targets. [Shukrijumah’s] philosophy has been, even years ago, to select and use operatives who come from the area they hope to launch attacks against. And I think his strategies now are being employed more so than they have in years past.

Billy explained that this strategy is showing up across the board, and that the reason for it is that terrorist groups were having so much trouble getting operatives into the United States that they have decided to find US citizens who would perform attacks. Zazi, for example, was a permanent resident who could come into the US as he wished.Shukrijumah himself, Billy said, is an example of that same strategy: He is a naturalized American and has been able to travel anywhere and slip in and out of countries as he wished. His physical appearance assists him in doing this, since his father is from Guyana and his mother is from Yemen, thus giving him a Hispanic look. He speaks nearly perfect English, has a US Social Security card and Florida driver's license.It is believed that a trip to Afghanistan in the fall of 1998 or early 1999 is what inspired Shukrijumah to join al-Qaeda. According to Intelligence officials, he had been to an al-Qaeda camp, where he had started as a dishwasher and worked his way up to study how to handle automatic weapons, as well as topography, clandestine surveillance, and explosives. After he returned to the US, he would disappear for weeks at a time, scouting for al-Qaeda, according to officials.According to Intelligence, Shukrijumah was behind the foiled 2004 plot against financial targets in New York and New Jersey, was tied to the plot to try to ignite fuel lines at John F. Kennedy airport in 2007, and of course, the subway plot, in which he has been indicted and the US government has placed a $5 million bounty on his head.Meanwhile, Californian Adam Gadahn, who is considered al-Qaeda's American mouthpiece, urged on Saturday wannabe terrorists to act alone instead of trying to join terror cells.My brothers: know that Jihad is your duty, Gadahn ranted in Arabic during a 40-minute video. You have an opportunity to strike the leaders of unbelief and retaliate against them on their own soil.Gadahn’s message is considered significant as al-Qaeda’s goal has long been to kill hundreds of Americans in simultaneous multiple attacks, while Gadahn has called on individual jihad. Officials estimated that the message is also likely a result of al-Qaeda being under pressure in Pakistan from CIA drones.Last March Gadahn sent out a similar message. He has been wanted by the FBI since 2004 and was charged with treason in 2006 for joining Al-Qaeda. There is a $1 million reward for information leading to his arrest.

Several weeks ago, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula released the second issue of its English-language magazine called Inspire. The 74-page edition featured an article entitled I Am Proud To Be a Traitor to America, written by a 24 year-old former resident of North Carolina and New York City named Samir Khan. Some have speculated that Inspire’s intent is to recruit American-born and UK terrorists.

IDF Rehearses for the Day Gen. Dayton's Forces Turn On It

The IDF's Nachshon Battalion's recent training exercises have included simulated battles against Palestinian Authority security forces. The mock battles were intended to prepare the soldiers for the possibility that the PA security forces in Judea and Samaria, currently being trained by US Lieutenant General Keith Dayton, would one day turn on Israel.The simulation was part of a seminar for Central Command officers held two weeks ago at the Lachish training base, and named From Routine Security Operations to Escalation.IDF journal Bamachaneh reported on the exercise and explained that it was held against the backdrop of recent accelerated contacts, far from sight and from the media, for a reconciliation agreement between the Palestinian Authority (led by Fatah chief Mahmoud Abbas) and Hamas. Information about these contacts is spotty, but the only thing that appears to be preventing reconciliation is Hamas's demand that PA security forces cease coordinating security matters with the IDF.An agreement between Abbas's PA and Hamas would completely change reality in Judea and Samaria., the military publication estimated.Major General Avi Mizrachi, Head of Central Command, said at the seminar that the most extreme situation that we predict in the Command is one in which the PA will decide to turn its weapons on us. This scenario is possible, he said, but we our assessment is that it will not happen.however,Brig.-Gen. Nitzan Alon, the commander of the Judea and Samaria Division, disagreed and said that Central Command must prepare for the situation in which the PA becomes an enemy and will cease operating against terror units as it does today.

Maj.-Gen. Mizrachi opined that without the infrastructure established by the IDF in recent years, no Arab security mechanism could prevent terror in Judea and Samaria. The mechanisms fear a Hamas takeover of Judea and Samaria more than they fear us, he said. At present, he said, suppression of Hamas is in Judea and Samaria is not bad, and Israel and the PA share a common interest in preventing terror from occurring in – or emanating from – Judea and Samaria.Central Command has also noticed a tightening of ties between Judea and Samaria terror cells and those that operate in Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Gaza. Anger as IDF Collects Israeli Weapons in Jordan Valley

IDF officials have announced that they plan to collect weapons from members of emergency security teams in several Israeli communities in the Jordan Valley, and place them in central weapons stores instead of the squad members' homes. The decision, made by Brigade Commander Yohai Ben-Yishai, follows the theft of two weapons from private homes in the town of Shdemot-Mehola on Saturday. The weapons had been secured with two locks as the law requires.The Land of Israel Legal Forum protested the decision. As far as we know, the weapons that were stolen had been properly secured, the organization said in a letter sent to top IDF officials. There's no doubt that [the theft] must be investigated, but to take away the ability for residents of the Valley to defend themselves from harm is unreasonable.Not only does this order not increase security, it undermines it, and is dangerous. A delay in the security teams' response could cost lives, the Forum concluded.Residents of the area requested that if the IDF follows through with the weapons collection, additional IDF soldiers be sent to Israeli towns in the area to offer protection in place of the local patrols. Their request was sent to several senior officials, including Defense Minister Ehud Barak and IDF Central Command head General Avi Mizrachi.If the army wants to take responsibility for security here, they're welcome to do so, but it's a huge area, said regional council head David Elchiani. New Survey Indicates Large Oil Field Buried Under Negev Sand

A new preliminary geological survey indicates 26 million barrels of recoverable oil—worth $2 billion—may be sitting underneath the sandy soil in the area of two kibbutzim in the Western Negev, near Gaza.Energtek announced it has received a geological survey on the Nir-am—Sa'ad block, identifying the potential for exploitable oil and natural gas reserves.Its subsidiary Energtek Products has the exclusive license to explore and exploit the resources in the area.The firm added, Current estimates will need to be confirmed by additional studies. Additional seismic analysis, modeling and further verifications are required to compile more accurate data on the fields and to provide more accurate reports on actual recoverable reserves.Besides the estimates of oil at a depth of 2,000 meters, or approximately a mile and a quarter, the preliminary survey also reports an additional estimate of 12 million barrels of recoverable oil at depths of up to 4,000meters, worth $900 at current prices.The area is adjacent to the small Heletz oil field, which so far has produced more than 16 million barrels of oil. If the new field is drilled, it will be the first deep-well drilling in the area in decades.

The announcement of the possible new field comes one day after Israel entered a new era with the beginning of drilling of the huge Leviathan natural gas and oil field off the northern Mediterranean Coast.Drilling and exploration over the next five months will cost $150 million, according to Delek Energy, the parent of Delek Drilling and partner Avner Oil. American-based Noble is also part of the consortium. The drilling is intended to examine the potential of the Levantine basin, according to Delek chief executive officer Gideon Tadmor, chief executive officer. If this drilling project turns out to be a success, it will significantly strengthen Israel’s energy independence.Noble also operates the nearby Tamar gas field, which it said may hold twice the reserves of reserves in Britain and can supply Israel with enough gas for decades.(IsraelNationalNews.com)
