An increasing clamour to restrict and control the internet on behalf of the government, the Pentagon, the intelligence community and their private corporate arms, could result in a staged cyber attack being used as justification.Over recent months we have seen a great increase in media coverage of inflated fears over a possible electronic Pearl Harbor event, with reports claiming that the U.S. could be felled within 15 minutes.Vastly over-hyped (and in some cases completely asinine) claims that the power grids and other key infrastructure such as rail networks and water sources are wired up to the public internet have permeated such coverage.
Threats against computer networks in the United States are grossly exaggerated. Dire reports issued by the Defense Science Board and the Center for Strategic and International Studies are usually richer in vivid metaphor — with fears of digital Pearl Harbors and cyber-Katrinas — than in factual foundation, writes Evgeny Morozov, a respected researcher and blogger who writes on the political effects of the internet.Morozov notes that much of the data on the supposed cyber threat are gathered by ultra-secretive government agencies — which need to justify their own existence — and cyber-security companies — which derive commercial benefits from popular anxiety.When the Cybersecurity Act was introduced by Senator John Rockefeller last year, he made similar claims about the threat of cyber attacks, adding Would it have been better if we’d have never invented the Internet?.
Rockefeller’s legislation gives the president the ability to declare a cybersecurity emergency and shut down or limit Internet traffic in any critical information network in the interest of national security. The bill does not define a critical information network or a cybersecurity emergency. That definition would be left to the president, according to a Mother Jones report.Provisions in the bill would allow the federal government, via the DHS and the NSA, to tap into any digital aspect of every citizen’s information without a warrant. Banking, business and medical records would be wide open to inspection, as well as personal instant message and e mail communications – all in the name of heading off cyber attacks on the nation.
Enhancements of such provisions are contained in the more recent Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act, which is being pushed hard by Senator Joe Lieberman. The bill would hand absolute power to the federal government to close down networks, and block incoming Internet traffic from certain countries under a declared national emergency.An accompanying cybersecurity control grid would only create greater risk according to experts who note that it would essentially establish a path for the bad guys to skip down. Other countries, such as Australia and the UK are following suit.The program dovetails with the Pentagon’s newly created Cyber Command, headed by Keith B Alexander, the acting head of the NSA and the man behind the massive program of illegal dragnet surveillance of domestic communications since at least 2001.During the Senate Armed Services Committee confirmation hearing, Alexander said the Pentagon’s Cyber Command would enjoy significant synergy with the NSA. We have to show what we’re doing to ensure that we comport, comply with the laws, said Alexander, perversely claiming the agency is respecting and protecting the privacy of the American people.The Pentagon considers cyberspace a warfighting domain equal to land, sea, air and space. In 2003, the Pentagon classified the internet as an enemy weapons system requiring a robust offensive suite of capabilities to include full-range electronic and computer network attack. It has spent Billions of dollars building a super secret National Cyber Range in order to prepare for Dominant Cyber Offensive Engagement, which translates as control over any and all computers. The program has been dubbed The Electronic Manhattan Project.

Obama Must be Impeached: He’s Either Incompetent, or Purposely Failing

Is there a single American who secretly thinks Obama’s up to the task of the presidency? Or, does anyone believe Barack does not take bad situations and worsen them to magnify his power? These are rhetorical questions, of course. The only way Barack is an acceptable president is if you’re an opponent of America’s greatest achievements.Therefore, if you support Obama it means you want to revolutionize the US. But no democratic country knowingly elects leaders to debase their country, give away power, bankrupt the treasury, incorporate socialism, dissolve constitutional rights, cripple capitalism, and menace every citizen with reckless policies. That would be ridiculous and anti-American. Barack has done all these things. Therefore, he must be impeached.Obama’s habit of casually blaming all problems on the sins of his predecessor recalls a quote by Joseph Conrad, The belief in a supernatural source of evil is not necessary; men alone are quite capable of every wickedness. Similarly, Barack has revealed enough willful stupidity, ignorance, and crafty sabotage to explain every lingering crisis in America; he no longer need invoke the Devil Bush.Probably most persons presently believe the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue can’t be impeached for anything he has done. Those persons would be wrong. According to a recent book, The Federal Impeachment Process: A Constitutional and Historical Analysis, by Michael J. Gerhardt, impeachment is ultimately a political question which cannot be framed off a simple criminal analysis. This essay offers a brief overview of the federal impeachment process and proposes an analysis of Obama’s actions which place them into the impeachable category.
I. General Impeachment Process
Impeachment, according to the ABA website: Is a process, authorized by the Constitution, to bring charges against certain officials of the federal government for misconduct while in office.The standard route that an impeachment follows is well-established. Here is a brief explanation from the Legal Information Institute:
The process roughly resembles a grand jury inquest, conducted by the House, followed by a full-blown trial, conducted by the Senate with the Chief Justice presiding. Impeachment is not directed exclusively at Presidents. The Constitutional language, all civil officers, includes such positions as Federal judgeships. The legislature, however, provides a slightly more streamlined process for lower offices by delegating much of it to committees. See Nixon v. US, 506 U.S. 224 (1993)(involving removal of a Federal judge). Presidential impeachments involve the full, public participation of both branches of Congress.
The Impeachment Process in a Nutshell
1.The House Judiciary Committee deliberates over whether to initiate an impeachment inquiry.
2.The Judiciary Committee adopts a resolution seeking authority from the entire House of Representatives to conduct an inquiry. Before voting, the House debates and considers the resolution. Approval requires a majority vote.
3.The Judiciary Committee conducts an impeachment inquiry, possibly through public hearings. At the conclusion of the inquiry, articles of impeachment are prepared. They must be approved by a majority of the Committee.
4.The House of Representatives considers and debates the articles of impeachment. A majority vote of the entire House is required to pass each article. Once an article is approved, the President is, technically speaking, impeached—that is subject to trial in the Senate.
5.The Senate holds trial on the articles of impeachment approved by the House. The Senate sits as a jury while the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court presides over the trial.
6.At the conclusion of the trial, the Senate votes on whether to remove the President from office. A two-thirds vote by the Members present in the Senate is required for removal.
7.If the President is removed, the Vice-President assumes the Presidency under the chain of succession established by Amendment XXV.
II. Reasons for Impeachment
A. Political Crimes
Gerhardt’s book The Federal Impeachment Process: A Constitutional and Historical Analysis, is an excellent source to begin analyzing the proper foundation of impeachment. Gerhardt’s work arguably centers on chapter 9, titled The Scope Of Impeachable Offenses.He sums up the issue: The major disagreement is not over whether impeachable offenses should be strictly limited to indictable crimes, but rather over the range of non-indictable offenses on which an impeachment may be based.In other words, outside of a clear instance of serious crime, the question of whether an official can be impeached rests upon one question. This is—What kinds of acts, which would not normally lead to an arrest, could still form a basis for an impeachment? Gerhardt’s study focuses upon the fact that impeachment is inevitably a political undertaking, as understood by how the old British system viewed the term political.Raoul Berger, in his Impeachment: The Constitutional Problems, studied instances of impeachment procedure occurring before the US Constitution was written. He found the British viewed the process as involving high crimes and misdemeanors as a category of political crimes against the state.Further, Berger isolated the use of political,in this sense, and against the state as being identical in meaning. In essence, when the Brits called an action politically suspect,it was meant as an injury to the state, that is—an attack against England.William Blackstone, chronicler of the British common law, differentiates high treason from low treason, the latter being disloyalty to an equal or lesser. So high treason was disloyalty to a superior person or entity. According to Arthur Bestor, this differentiation between high and low treason was a key concept to understand for a proper impeachment analysis. Bestor describes how a fair impeachment proceeding would be founded upon a profound assault to the state itself.
The American constitutional Framers understood this difference between high and low treason, according to Gerhardt, believing impeachment dealt with high treasons in the form of attacks against the state. For example, Signator George Mason felt impeachments should be limited to acts that attempt to subvert the Constitution, among which he felt should include maladministration. While James Madison felt this term was too vague, Gerhardt claims all the Founders believed impeachment was not simply a process to deal with straightforward crimes. He writes, In short, the debates at the constitutional convention show at least that impeachable offenses were not limited to indictable offenses, but included offenses against the state.The ratification debates on the Constitution certainly compassed beyond mere crimes as reason for impeachment. Great offenses included when an executive deviates from his duty or that he dare to abuse the power vested in him by the people. Framer, Signator and First US Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton wrote upon this topic in Federalist 65, writing:A well-constituted court for the trial of impeachments is an object not more to be desired than difficult to be obtained in a government wholly elective. The subjects of its jurisdiction are those offenses which proceed from the misconduct of public men, or, in other words, from the abuse or violation of some public trust. They are of a nature which may with peculiar propriety be denominated POLITICAL, as they relate chiefly to injuries done immediately to the society itself. The prosecution of them, for this reason, will seldom fail to agitate the passions of the whole community, and to divide it into parties more or less friendly or inimical to the accused. In many cases it will connect itself with the pre-existing factions, and will enlist all their animosities, partialities, influence, and interest on one side or on the other; and in such cases there will always be the greatest danger that the decision will be regulated more by the comparative strength of parties, than by the real demonstrations of innocence or guilt.
Founder, Signator and US Supreme Court Justice James Wilson agreed with Hamilton’s assessment, calling impeachable offenses… political crimes and misdemeanors. Harvard Constitutional scholar and US Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story—and impeachment authority—agreed, according to the record in Proceedings in the Cases of the Impeachment of Charles Robinson, et al… He wrote,The subject (of impeachment) is full of intrinsic difficulty in a government purely elective. The jurisdiction is to be exercised over offenses which are committed by public men in violation of their public trusts and duties. Those duties are, in many cases, political; and, indeed, in other cases, to which the power of impeachment will probably be applied…the power partakes of a political character… Political injuries to be of such kinds of misdeeds…as to peculiarly injure the commonwealth by the abuse of high offices of trust.Justice Story also stated that a particular action did not have to have a previously existing law against the impeachable offense, writing ...no previous statute is necessary to authorize an impeachment for any official misconduct. This was considered crucial since no exhaustive statutes could ever be drafted so well as to foresee every single future event threatening the Republic. He said, Political offenses are of so various and complex a character, so utterly incapable of being defined, or classified, that the task of positive legislation would be impracticable, if it were not absurd to attempt it.According to Gerhardt, this means Story and Hamilton agreed future generations would have to define on a case-by-case basis the political crimes comprising impeachable offenses to replace the federal common law of crimes that never developed.
B. Non-Indictable Impeachable Offenses
The hardest category for impeachments is defining actions that are not obvious crimes, but reveal such a lack of character or such ill-will or indifference to America’s safety that they become impeachable offenses, ipso facto. Lawrence Tribe, in his American Constitutional Law mentions some such examples, writing ...a deliberate presidential decision to emasculate our national defenses or to conduct a private war in circumvention of the Constitution could form the basis for a non-indictable, impeachable action against the state. Now, simple un-indictable crimes such as jaywalking, smoking in a restaurant, or failing to use a turn signal are examples of actions that would not support an impeachment.
III. Do Obama’s Crimes Rise to Impeachment?
Do any of Obama’s actions rise to the level of his being impeached? Following are Barack acts that various persons believe are illegal, treasonous, or clearly impeachable. (Forgive the omission of many other serious Obama offenses)
A. Environmental Disaster
Gulf Oil Spill: Barack could have moved much more quickly to sop up the oil in the Gulf. His actions were obviously dilatory, especially refusing foreign aid and not using, to this day, 4 months after the spill started, all of America’s 2,000 oil skimmers. How many millions of gallons of petroleum did this add to Louisiana’s and Mississippi’s and Alabama’s fragile wetlands? And Obama is dedicated to the environment? Please! Barack also battled various governors when they tried to protect their states, like LA’s Bobby Jindal, a potential future political opponent. This ridiculous foot-dragging greatly exaggerated the oil pollution’s effects, presumably to strengthen Barack’s political hand against future petroleum use. In fact, one could claim Obama is the least environmentally sound US president ever. So, does this rise to an impeachable offense? B. Economic Failure
1.Socialism: Socialism is not an American ideology because it destroys capitalism, which the Founders chose as our model. But we know Obama opposes this when he said to Joe the Plumber: I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.
2.Government Bailouts: The Constitution protects private property, especially the Contracts Clause. Obama’s people unfairly favored the unions in the Detroit auto bailout, breaking this clause. Further, Obama had no mandate to bailout Detroit in general.
3.Stimulus Lies: Barack said if the Stimulus was not passed the economy would tank (some disagreed), despite not having helped draft it or even knowing what was in the bill. Stimulus Bill Too Lengthy to Read—But Not To Sign. Is a president touting a bill he doesn’t know impeachable conduct?
4.Unparalleled Deficit Spending: Just because Keynes had a theory about deficit spending does not make this the answer to all problems. Barack seems to wantonly waste money. Why? Plus, it would appear a great deal of TARP/bailout/stimulus money has been stolen, undoubtedly given for political gifts. Is this not, at least, impeachable?
5.Obama is demanding Cap’n-Trade, even after Global Warming has been proved a hoax. That’s theft.

2.Property Right: Obama salivates on thinking of wealth redistribution!
3.Internet Freedom: Obama plans to limit free speech on the Net and now will have a kill switch to turn it off during emergencies.
4.Religious Freedom: Some critics don’t think Obama cares about any religious freedom but Islamic.
G. Supporting Global Democracy:
Bearing in mind American policy was always to support greater global freedom and democracy, to make the world better and safer, should Obama unilaterally change this policy? Isn’t that impeachable?
1.Obama is an enormous critic of Israel, our closest ally in the Middle East. But Barack claims Israelis don’t like him because of his Muslim name, as opposed to his dreadful policies!
2.Barack refused to take a strong stand against the Iranian democracy crackdown. Why? Doesn’t Obama care about Iranian freedom advocates?
3.Obama refused to stand up for Honduran constitutionalism. But why not? Isn’t he a US constitutional scholar? Barack even terminated aid to Honduras for defending their constitution!
H. Illegal Immigration
1.Obama refuses to strongly support border security, despite grave dangers.
2.But when individual states act to stop illegal entries, Barack attacks their laws and sues them.
3.Barack lashes out self-righteously against the law which mirrors his own federal statutes.
4.Obama’s dense attorney general also rages, despite admitting never having read the law.

I don’t claim to know where Barack Obama was born. But the fact the guy cannot produce an original birth certificate, yet refuses to admit this obvious fact—is strange. I mean, why does he post a replacement certificate online as if it were the original? That’s an idiotic maneuver. Further, wasting millions of tax payer of dollars fighting Birther lawsuits gives one no confidence in his origins.But the real importance of the Birther movement is to continually highlight the very alien nature of Obama, and how opposed he is to everything traditionally American. Undoubtedly, the desire to fend off strange and un-American personalities who did not grow up in the US and therefore cannot hope to identify with our history of rugged individualism and freedom-loving ways was key to the Founders not allowing foreign-born presidents. And Obama is an alien to American ideals and freedoms, regardless of where he was born.

Tropical storm heads to China as flood toll hits 700

The government has advised people to stay indoors, the official Xinhua news agency said.Typhoon Conson skirted the resort island of Hainan last week, killing two people, before heading into Vietnam.
Much of southern and central China has been suffering flooding and landslides after weeks of torrential downpours.At least 701 people have died since the start of the year as a result of the rains, and another 347 are missing, the government said on Wednesday.The scale of the devastation, with more rain forecast, has raised fear of another mass disaster on the scale of the 1998 Yangtze River floods. But Liu Ning, vice minister of water resources, said that should not happen.China is far better prepared than in 1998, when more than 4,000 people died, and the overall water volume is not as high although some rivers have risen above the peak of that year.
Middle and downstream water levels are actually one meter lower compared with 1998, though some sections and lakes are approaching or have exceeded warning levels,he told a news conference on efforts to fight the flood.But in 1998 water levels on the whole of the Yangtze River exceeded flood parameters, which lasted for more than 30 days.Since then dikes have been improved and the massive Three Gorges dam completed. Only a few dikes have failed, unlike in 1998 when thousands did, Liu said.Since 1998, 29 projects have been completed, which have come in great use in this year's flood prevention work,he added.The Three Gorges dam was given the go-ahead by the government in 1992, against unusually visible domestic opposition -- with environmentalists warning the reservoir could turn into a cesspool of raw sewage and industrial chemicals trapped behind the dam.The government justified its decision to push ahead by citing massive clean power generation and flood control. Strong 6.3-magnitude quake hits Papua New Guinea

PORT MORESBY (AFP) – Papua New Guinea was hit Wednesday by a 6.3-magnitude earthquake, geologists said, though no destructive tsunami was expected and no immediate damage was reported.The quake hit at 5:18 am (1918 GMT Tuesday), 130 kilometres (81 miles) northeast of Kandrian on New Britain Island at a depth of 36 kilometres, the US Geological Survey said, revising the location and an earlier estimate of 6.6 magnitude.The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that, based on historical data, there was no immediate threat of a widespread destructive tsunami.
But a bulletin from the centre added:Earthquakes of this size sometimes generate local tsunamis that can be destructive along coasts located within 100 kilometres (62 miles) of the earthquake epicentre.Authorities in the region of the epicentre should be aware of this possibility and take appropriate action.Geoscience Australia measured the tremor at 6.5 magnitude with a depth of 60 kilometres.Just over an hour later the same region was hit by a 5.6-magnitude aftershock 40 kilometres deep, revised down from an earlier estimate of 5.9-magnitude.Papua New Guinea, which is mired in poverty despite rich mineral deposits, sits on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, a hotspot for seismic activity due to friction between tectonic plates.

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - The European Commission on Tuesday (20 March) said loss-making mines in the EU must be closed down by autumn 2014.Rules coming into force in January will only allow state subsidies to be given to hard-coal (anthracite) mines if closure plans are in place. The closure plans will have to ensure that the mines are shut down by 15 October, 2014, at the latest.Companies need to be viable without subsidies. This is a question of fairness vis à vis competitors that operate without state aid. This is also in the interest of taxpayers and of government finances that are considerably constrained,said EU competition commissioner Joaquin Almunia.The member states concerned - the move predominantly affects Germany's Ruhr region, north-west Spain and Poland - will be able to monitor the implementation of the closure plans. The subsidies will decrease over time, with a reduction of at least 33percent per fifteen-month period, the commission said.If loss-making mines are not closed by 15 October 2014, the aid will have to be paid back.Instead of subsidising the companies, states should focus on the social and environmental consequences of the closure and training of the mines workers for other jobs, the commission says.
Spanish commissioner Joaquin Almunia had originally proposed that the aid could continue to be paid until 2023, but in the end, the decision on the proposal was taken unanimously,a commission spokesperson said. The original 2023 date was opposed by Connie Hedegaard and Janez Potocnik, the commissioners for climate action and environment.Poland accounts for more than half of the EU's hard-coal production. The other half is produced by Germany, the UK, the Czech Republic and Spain. Around 100,000 people in Europe work in the sector - 42,000 in the coal sector itself and over 55,000 in related industries.Total aid to the hard coal sector in the EU was €2.9 billion in 2008. An international project aimed at creating nuclear fission energy that has met with runaway construction costs will receive a fresh injection of cash from the EU, with the European Commission diverting millions in research monies and other EU spending to plug the funding hole.The cost of building the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (Iter), a magnetic confinement fission research project located in Cadarache, France, that is intended to provide a bridge between the lab and electricity-producing fusion power plants of the future, has expanded considerably since plans were first mooted.If successful, nuclear fission is the perfect new energy source, as the process, the same as that which powers the sun, is produce from a fuel source that will not run out, is safe and does not produce radioactive waste or earth-warming carbon dioxide.But costs have soared far beyond original projects, to €16 billion at a time of draconian austerity measures almost everywhere, with the EU's share of the bill doubling.With EU member states unwilling to pay up, the commission has filled a €1.4 billion spending gap for 2012-13 by raiding the research funding budget.Some €460 million will redirected from the union's research programme and another €940 million will come from unspecified unspent EU funds.

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - The EU and its 27 member states have almost 20 programmes, agencies and agreements governing the exchange of personal, business and telecoms data of EU citizens, a first-ever audit has shown.The arrangements, sometimes only concerning clusters of member states, are designed to facilitate passport-free travel within the EU, to combat terrorism and crime, and to prevent irregular immigration.However, the programmes vary in their usefulness and range from the SIS system, which gathers personal data on travellers to Europe's Schengen borderless zone, to the Advance Passenger Information System, which allows airlines to transmit data on non-EU citizens to border authorities in a bid to combat irregular immigration, and Ecris, the European Criminal Records Information System.The agreements also vary in the information that is exchanged. The so-called Pruem Decision, originally between seven member states, now sees ten countries exchange DNA information, while the data retention directive, a major source of controversy, allows for the keeping of telecoms data. Co-operation between asset recovery offices sees information on property, vehicles and companies shared.The data sharing also extends to countries beyond the EU, including agreements with Washington to hand over EU air passenger information and certain banking details.
Some of the initiatives, often proposed by single countries, such as the Swedish Initiative on streamlining the sharing of the criminal intelligence, appear to overlap with overarching bodies such as Europol, a co-ordinating European policy body.EU home affairs commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom, who on Tuesday published the stocktaking list to make good on a transparency promise to MEPs, said that overview will help when developing further information exchange policies. For the future, Brussels is looking to step up anti-radicalisation measures and has mooted a security fund, although Ms Malmstrom said it is too early to say how much such a fund would contain and for what it would be used.Tuesday's information will feed into a broader EU internal security document due to be published in autumn, with the commission noting that while terrorist attacks are on the decrease, terrorists' methods are constantly evolving.

Israel and US Near Deal for F-35 Advanced Fighter Plane

Lockheed Martin, the plane’s manufacturer, has not commented on the status of the deal, but Lockheed is known to be anxious over sales because of European countries’ reviews of spending programs.
Wieringa added that the Obama administration and the Pentagon view Israel’s buying the F-35 as part and parcel of American security policies.Lockheed Martin has promoted the F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter as the centerpiece for 21st century global security while strengthening international political and industrial partnerships. The fighter plane combines advanced stealth with fighter speed and agility, fully fused sensor information, network-enabled operations and advanced sustainment.One of the sticking points in the purchase by Israel has been its desire to incorporate Israeli systems in the plane.Weiringa did not disclose what specific radars and other equipment would be included with the F-35 fighters for Israel, but sources reported that Israel is satisfied with the technology in the final agreement.

19 JULY 2010: Not quite 6 weeks ago, between 7 and 9 June, an Israeli delegation attended a briefing given by the NATO Program Office for the Active Layered Theater Ballistic Missile Defense System (ALTBMDS) Operational Users Group, led by the United States, Germany, Italy, Poland, the U.K., France, Holland and Canada.The briefing brought the Israeli’s up to speed on the current and future capabilities of the NATO ballistic missile defense system. At the same time the NATO side was briefed by Israeli Brigadier General (Ret.) Eitan Yariv on Israel’s Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) system.Obviously, the two systems were immediately recognized to be mutually compatable and would provide an immediate increase in joint capabilities against hostile ballistic missile threats against Europe, Israel and forward deployed NATO forces in the Middle Eastern theater of operations (Operation Enduring Freedom). Without question the Islamic Republic of Iran, with its Shahab-3/4/5 family of ballistic missiles, is seen by all parties as the primary emergent threat. Syria and newly ballistic missile-armed Hezbollah in Lebanon are second tier emergent threats.
It is no big surprise, therefore, to see operational in Israel today a jointly-manned American and Israeli operations center featuring the ground-based center-piece of the NATO system, the AN/TPY-2 radar seen in the image above. Israel has not only integrated its defenses with the American systems in theater, but now has integrated with those of NATO on the European continent. Any launched ballistic missile threat within 1,900 miles of these allied territories will be rapidly identified, the specific launch point located and the incoming warhead destroyed. The effective range of this system is likely limited only by the overhead postion of the space-based element of the networked system and the location of most forward deployed elements of the actual interceptor missiles – most likely located outside of Europe in Israel, Kuwait and Afghanistan.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday that disagreements and differences between the two countries merely serve the interests of the Zionist regime and enemies of the region and the Muslim world.The two countries, separated by Iraq and the Persian Gulf (in northwest-southeast order), were at major loggerheads during the Iran-Iraq war of the 1980’s and shortly afterwards. Ambassador Shalev: Isolating Israel More Dangerous than Iran

The growing worldwide attempt to make Israel illegitimate is more of a danger than Iran to the existence of the Jewish State, according to Gabriella Shalev, outgoing Ambassador to the United Nations. The Associated Press similarly reported that the election-year message of increased U.S. aid to Israel seems aimed at assauging [sic] the concerns of many Jewish voters that Obama remains committed to Israel's security.As surely as the bond between the United States and Israel is unbreakable, our commitment to Israel's qualitative military edge has never been greater, Shapiro said.The $205 million for Iron Dome is above and beyond the $3 billion in Foreign Military Financing that the Administration requested for Israel in fiscal year 2011, Shapiro said. In 2010, he said the administration requested $2.775 billion from Congress in security assistance funding specifically for Israel, the largest such request in U.S. history.
Shapiro noted that one of his colleagues in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs recently had a chance to see the Iron Dome training battery while in Israel for bilateral consultations, and was able to witness a simulation of the system’s promising new capabilities.The Iron Dome is designed to stop short-range rockets, such as the more than 8,000 used by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza, and another 4,000 launched from southern Lebanon, against Israel in recent years. Experts say, however, that it cannot stop rockets fired from a distance of under five kilometers, making it ineffective in protecting towns directly adjacent to the border.U.S. support for Israel’s security is much more than a simple act of friendship, Shapiro said. We are fully committed to Israel’s security because it enhances our own national security and because it helps Israel to take the steps necessary for peace. There is a Bill in the Works that will blur the controversial, gay marriage issue with illegal alien rights and amnesty. This administration and congress plans to hide behind freedom and are obtaining huge support from the gay community, naturally in the name of freedom regarding this soon to be exposed Bill. You and I have just gotten a sneak peak as to the next Rules for Radicals trick is unfolding.What specifically do they have in mind? The specific focus of this Bill will make marriage a Federal and Government right and privilege, not with the States. Once that is established, then the Illegal aliens (I.A.) who are married, gay or heterosexual, to have their marriage recognized in the U.S. would make their immigration status a non issue. Their marriage would be recognized in Mexico and the U.S. so how could they be deemed illegal…….hmmm tricky.If this is allowed, just watch as U.S. Citizens travel to Mexico, get married and then under Mexican law be recognized in the U.S. How can this happen you ask? Per another reliable, legal source of mine, I was reminded of Senator John McCain’s parents who were married in Mexico, under Mexican law but recognized here without formalization.
The other obvious shoe that would drop would be the endless freedom and rights issues regarding gays and illegal aliens! Most people think of the news media differently than the participants in it think of themselves. While most people think that the job of newspapers, news radio stations and television newscasts is to report on events, those on the other end of the wire, the printing press and the cable, think that their job is not to report, but to advocate.The high cost of producing a widely read newspaper, a television station or a radio station, has traditionally limited ownership and injected the owner’s biases into the outlet. But the rise of a professional media class in America has made the owner’s views almost redundant, in the same way that unions have ensured that every business they work for will be used to serve the interests of the Democratic party. While some reporters may still report, overwhelmingly the members of the professional media class do not report, they advocate.That is why the rise of the internet has only accelerated media bias, as advocacy journalists are less worried about owners and working for a single outlet, and instead focus on maintaining political solidarity with their professional colleagues. A journalist no longer thinks in terms of working for the same newspaper for 20 or 30 years. He knows that by then there probably won’t even be any newspapers. A month from now he’ll be in a different outlet. Two months from that, he might be printed in three others, one of them a media blog. Three months from now he may be doing video blogs for Time Magazine. The unstable nature of the market means that the journalist is less concerned with the owners, and much more with his professional standing with the colleagues who will hire him or recommend him for jobs. And today professional standing means political reliability, just as it did in the Soviet Union.
Journalist is only one of the more public revelations about that private political solidarity, which these days determines the content of the news we are allowed to read. That boys and girls media club serves as an unofficial union in an unstable marketplace that is bounded not by accomplishment or educational credentials, but by pulling together for a common political cause. Whether it was plotting to bring down Bush or raise up Obama, to push nationalization of health care or internationalization of national security—that unofficial fraternity and sorority of advocacy journalists has turned media bias into their reason for being. They have turned into the definition of what a journalist should be.The difference between a reporter and an advocate, is that the former reports on events, while the latter uses events as props in his message. Where a reporter tries to learn what happened, the advocate tries to understand how he can use that event in his narrative. The advocate has less in common with the reporter, than he does with an ad executive. Like the ad executive looking at a box of chocolate, the advocate looks at an event and decides how he can use it to sell his message. That is why news reports and articles have become commercials for liberal products. One news report might try to sell viewers on the idea that the War on Terror is a bad idea, another will encourage them to view bank bailouts positively, and a third will try to make them feel bad for opposing amnesty. And then the news commercials will pause, to allow that ad executive to run a commercial selling viewers a new brand of dog food of chocolate, before returning back to more news commercials. Or to music and dramatic television programming that is likely to be selling some of the same political messages as well.
The politicization of all forms of media is the result of an understanding that places political advocacy above any notion of objective truth or individual rights. It is fanaticism and propaganda in a suit and tie, sometimes even with an American flag placed around the border. Its not so secret belief is that the American people are stupid, that their culture is stupid and that their opinions can only be improved through direct programming from newspapers, books, radio, television, websites and any other source that can deliver political messages to them, whether they are disguised as news or entertainment. Americans today are living surrounded by as much propaganda as any North Korean Americans today are living surrounded by as much propaganda as any North Korean. The difference is that the propaganda is subtler because it is less standardized by any regulatory body or fear of prison sentences. But that too is beginning to change. The Obama Administration has defined its idea of the media’s role as being the purveyor of its talking points, nothing more. Obama’s avoidance of press conferences, and unwillingness to grant access to the media, makes it clear that he wants to keep them on a short leash. Like most totalitarian organizations, the Obama Administration is not interested in being asked questions, only in making sure that their propaganda is distributed in a timely and consistent fashion.

Where attacking Bush gave the media a challenge, the Obama Administration leaves them with nothing to do except praise the Beloved Leader and condemn his critics as ignorant racists who hate America. Being an assassin requires more brains than being a herald, and much as the media struggles against it, their only function anymore is to blow the trumpet and repeat what they’ve been told to say, off the record, by their contacts in the White House.While the media tries to paint the Tea Party protesters as extensions of the Republican party, it is actually they who have become extensions of the Democratic party. By advocating a polar political agenda, the media has come to be identified with liberalism, and with the country’s primary liberal party. Distrusted by much of the country, yet taken for granted by the ruling political elite in Washington D.C., the media is reaching the end of the road. As the media organizations that employ them are becoming financially unsustainable, the ranks of reporters that came out of college firmly believing that their mission was to politically indoctrinate Americans are realizing that they are nothing more than bloggers working for dinosaur media outlets.

But all this really does is turn Time Magazine and the Washington Post into Firedoglake, the Huffington Post and DailyKos. And radicalizing media outlets also marginalizes them. The media has successfully alienated conservatives and independents. Now it is alienating even mainstream Democrats who are sick of childish rantings and conspiracy theories taking the place of serious journalism.The blogsphere has not only defeated the media, it has remade it in its own image. Conventional reporting is vanishing, and what remains of the media exists only to push talking points, repackage memes, launch attacks at the opposition, and furiously cover the asses of their own pet politicians. Unlike printing presses, radio and television stations; websites are relatively cheap. And that put the media into the uncomfortable position of trying to compete with free blogs. Paywalls have not worked, and so newspapers are folding and media outlets are trimming their staffs to try and stay competitive. And as the Time Magazine website shows us, the end result leaves you with something that has the Time brand on it, but reads like the Huffington Post.Advocacy journalism has traveled a long from the posturing of a Walter Cronkite pretending to be your favorite uncle, to Keith Olbermann mimicking him with spittle flecked rants about the Worst Person in the World. Dan Rather’s takedown marked the end of the news broadcast. MSNBC and FOX are the logical result of cable news networks surviving by finding a political demographic and catering to them. But what works for FOX and MSNBC won’t work nearly as well for media outlets that depended on a general cross-section of readers and viewers, rather than on preaching to the choir.
And that is the irony of advocacy journalism, whose politics helped kill their own jobs. Media arrogance and entitlement polarized media coverage at a time when media outlets had to make a compelling case why their readers should support them. And so they did. They made a compelling case to liberal readers, and told everyone else to take a hike. The result is all around us. The jobs of a small media elite will be preserved, at the cost of hundreds of thousands of jobs, from the circulation department to production assistants, from producers to designers, from delivery truck drivers to ordinary hard working reporters who legitimately covered non-glamorous events. Their jobs have had to die, so that a few thousand angry liberals will be able to keep on ranting on the websites that will be all that remain of once great newspapers and publications. Media Bailout: Recognize the media’s new status as a government propaganda department Now there’s talk of a media bailout, which would recognize the media’s new status as a government propaganda department. It isn’t likely to happen though, except in a small and very selective way, because the Obama Administration’s hostility to the media makes it rather clear that they view it as dangerous and redundant. Dangerous because even a heavily biased media can cover stories they don’t want, and redundant because a government media would just do what the government already does, without actually being any more trusted than the government. A few political bloggers providing their opinions, subsidized by Soros funded organizations, would suit the Obama White House much better.
Dictatorships always consolidate the press, because they want to control the entire story from start to finish. Not just what is said, but when it is said, and how it is said. Control is the only mandate of tyranny. And political tyrannies are the worst, because the dogma of ideas creates constant mini-debates which are settled through repression and purges. The push to the left radicalizes and destroys what is left of the media. And what remains can be easily scooped up by the same people who paid for the current White House.By embracing advocacy journalism, the media wrote its own obituary. It stopped being biased as an aspect of its reporting, instead bias became its identity. There ceased to be a media apart from the biased narratives, the attacks aimed at everyone who disagreed with their politics and the shameless slobbering over their favorite politicians. The media made political indoctrination in support of government control over every aspect of people’s lives into its goal, and discovered why there is no free press in totalitarian countries. Because the people won’t buy them and the government doesn’t need them. The media has reached the end of the road. It still makes noises about public service and informing the public, but everyone knows by now that these are buzzwords that mean op-eds and talking being run as news stories, commentaries being run as broadcasts. No one is buying it anymore, and no one cares. The culture of political conformity has destroyed the media. Its war on the Bush Administration and anointment of Obama were the last gasps of political propagandizing from a collapsing brontosaurus that once defined how Americans got their information. What began as great edifices of journalism that served information coast to coast and around the world, now come to their end as shoddy political blogs ranting about who dares to disagree with them. The media’s obit is written, and there’s no one even around to read it anymore.
