CLINTON BEHIND DIVISION OF JERUSALEM

JERUSALEM DIVIDED

ZECHARIAH 12:1-5 King James Bible
1 The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.
2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.
3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
4 In that day, saith the LORD, I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness: and I will open mine eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness.
5 And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, The inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be my strength in the LORD of hosts their God.

JOEL 3:2
2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.

ZECHARIAH 14:1-9 King James Bible
1 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.
2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
3 Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.
4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. 5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.
6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:
7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.
8 And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.
9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.

Sarsur: Clinton, Not Barak, Made Camp David Offers
by Maayana Miskin AUG 18,09

(IsraelNN.com) Member of Knesset Ibrahim Sarsur said Monday that former Prime Minister Ehud Barak did not offer anything to former Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat when the two met at Camp David in 2000. The famed 98 percent offer was made by then-United States President Bill Clinton, Sarsur alleged.Clinton would make offers to the PA as if they came from Barak, with the intent of convincing Barak to agree to the offer later, Sarsur said. Barak did not make any concrete proposal regarding Jerusalem,he added. Popular belief that Barak and then-Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben-Ami offered the PA almost the entire territory of Judea and Samaria, as well as much of eastern Jerusalem and even the Temple Mount, Judaism's holiest site, is mistaken, Sarsur claims. Those are just fairy tales,he said.Sarsur insisted that protocols of the Camp David meeting supported his version of events. The MK, who is known to have close ties to the PA and Fatah, said Barak's alleged refusal to make offers was one of the subjects discussed at the recent Fatah conference in Bethlehem.

Israel Has More Than Enough
Sarsur also expressed anger over Israel's insistence that Jerusalem remain the capital of the Jewish state, and not be given to the PA to serve as the capital of a future Arab state. Isn't it enough that the Palestinians relinquished 75 percent of holy Palestine? Now they need to give up more? he asked.According to Sarsur, Israel had received more than its fair share of land even prior to the Six Day War, in which 1948 Israel was reunited with Judea, Samaria, the Golan Heights and Jerusalem. According to the Partition Plan, Israel was supposed to get 51 percent of the territory,he said. Sarsur was referring to a UN proposal that would have split British Mandate Palestine into two states, one Jewish and one Arab. The two were to have roughly equal shares of territory, although much of the land designated for Jews was in the Negev Desert, while the Arab state was to receive more fertile land in the north of the country.Instead, the Jewish state ended up with over 70 percent of British Mandated Palestine after being attacked by several Arab armies – and local Arab militias – shortly after declaring a state on the Partition Plan land.

East Jerusalem Includes Jewish Neighborhoods
Sarsur made it clear that when the PA speaks of occupied east Jerusalem, it is referring to Jewish neighborhoods and not only those areas that are currently majority Arab. Neighborhoods such as Neve Yaakov, Ramot, Ramat Eshkol and Pisgat Zeev rightfully belong to PA Arabs, he said, as do all neighborhoods that fell under Jordanian control from 1948 to 1967.When they say east Jerusalem, that means everything that was conquered during the Six Day War,Sarsur explained. He expressed support for the PA position, saying, All of that land is occupied, and must be returned.

ISRAELS INHERITED LAND IN THE FUTURE

And here are the bounderies of the land that Israel will inherit either through war or peace or God in the future. God says its Israels land and only Israels land. They will have every inch God promised them of this land in the future.

Egypt east of the Nile River, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, The southern part of Turkey and the Western Half of Iraq west of the Euphrates. Gen 13:14-15, Psm 105:9,11, Gen 15:18, Exe 23:31, Num 34:1-12, Josh 1:4.

ALL THIS LAND ISRAEL WILL DEFINATELY OWN IN THE FUTURE, ITS ISRAELS NOT ISHMAELS LAND.

Huckabee: Would Israel Tell Obama Who Can Live in the Bronx?
by Gil Ronen AUG 18,09

(IsraelNN.com)
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Monday that the United States should not be telling Jewish people where they can and cannot live in Jerusalem, and he compared such a policy with racial segregation. My question is how would the government of the United States feel if Prime Minister Netanyahu began to dictate which people could live in the Bronx, which ones could live in Manhattan, and which could live in Queens,he said. Huckabee spoke with reporters as he toured the remains of the ancient Jewish City of David (Ir David) in eastern Jerusalem Monday. The position that our government has taken recently is far more harsh [than the previous administration’s], even halting peace talks until there is compliance with these demands, he noted.I’m not sure where we would get the authority to demand of the Israelis what they should do in their own country. After touring the Pool of Shiloach (Silwan) and Hezekiah’s Tunnel, the governor said, I think that there is some concern that many of us have who have been coming to Israel for many years. I’m not Jewish, so I am not trying to stand up for the Jewish people but for the freedom of the Israeli people who I feel have an organic relationship to the United States as the only democracy in the Middle East, as the only place where freedom and liberty and personal capacity to make choices really thrives. It’s in the vital interest of not just the Middle East but the world that freedom exists.

Asked if he would support an Israeli military strike against Iran, the man touted as the leading candidate for the Republican presidential ticket in 2012 stated he would support Israel doing whatever Israel needs to protect [itself].He added that the United States would never want anybody to tell it the boundaries of how it can protect itself.I think we can certainly advise as a friend to Israel, he explained, but we have no right to dictate and outright tell another country what it should or shouldn’t do. Heck, we don’t do that with North Korea! I’d like to think that the rights of Jewish people in their own homeland would be the same as the rights of American people in their homeland,Huckabee said.We take our rights very seriously.

Huckabee's visit was arranged by Ateret Kohanim, a group that facilitates Jewish settlement of Jerusalem's eastern neighborhoods. New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind, along with activists Dr. Joe Frager and Dr. Paul Brody, joined the tour and explained to Huckabee the significance of the Jewish housing projects in eastern Jerusalem.

Hurricane Bill builds in Atlantic, path uncertain AccuWeather AUG 18,09

MIAMI (Reuters) – Hurricane Bill, the first hurricane of the 2009 Atlantic season, headed west-northwest over the open ocean on Tuesday, but it was uncertain whether it could threaten the northeast U.S. coast by Sunday. The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Bill, which late on Monday turned into a Category 2 hurricane packing winds of nearly 100 miles per hour (160 km per hour), was expected to strengthen further on a curving path that would keep it far from land in the next few days.

It posed no threat to the U.S. Gulf oil-producing area.

The NHC's broad five-day track forecast saw it passing west of Bermuda, the island reinsurance capital, between Saturday and Sunday, but it was not completely clear to what extent Bill might eventually threaten the northeast U.S. coast.Bill was expected to become a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson 1 to 5 scale of intensity in the coming days, and the NHC forecast it would make a gradual turn to the northwest on Wednesday. Some forecasting models appeared to show Bill eventually turning away from the northeast U.S. coast. At 5 a.m. EDT (0900 GMT) Bill was located 810 miles east of the Leeward Islands.Meanwhile, energy traders were keeping an eye on the remnants of Tropical Storm Ana, which is currently producing thunderstorms over Haiti, Cuba and the Bahamas. The NHC forecast that the storm front had a low chance -- less than 30 percent -- of becoming a tropical cyclone again over the next 48 hours.

One forecaster, AccuWeather.com, said it was unlikely but possible the system could regenerate over the eastern Gulf later in the week. Some forecasters noted that Ana had already regenerated once.Energy markets quaver at Gulf storms because the region produces a quarter of U.S. oil and 15 percent of its natural gas.(Reporting by Pascal Fletcher and Scott DiSavino; Editing by Jim Loney and Paul Simao)

Hurricane Bill gathers strength out in Atlantic By JONATHAN M. KATZ, Associated Press Writer – AUG 17,09 11:10PM

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti – The first hurricane of this year's Atlantic season gathered force far out to sea late Monday, while weaker storm systems drenched the northeastern Caribbean and the Florida Panhandle.Hurricane Bill was expected to become a major storm in the next couple of days, with winds topping 110 mph (177 kph) as it moved on a track expected to be near Bermuda by the end of the week. It had become a Category 2 storm with winds whipping at 100 mph (160 kph)The storm is very large, with tropical winds extending out 150 miles, so Bermuda faced a potential threat even if the Atlantic island avoided a direct hit, said Nick Camizzi, a forecaster with the British territory's weather service. We are keeping an eye on it for sure,Camizzi said.It was too soon to tell if Bill would threaten the eastern coast of the United States, said John Cangialosi, a meteorologist at the U.S. National Hurricane Center. It was not expected to threaten Florida. The system is certainly large and eventually will be a powerful hurricane, Cangialosi said. But colder waters and wind shear could weaken it when it moves farther north. What began as Tropical Storm Ana, the first named storm of the season, weakened into a tropical depression as it raced past the Leeward Islands, U.S. and British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, apparently moving too quickly to cause more than minor flooding.

Along the Florida Panhandle, Tropical Storm Claudette quickly weakened after it made landfall at Fort Walton Beach. By late Monday, much of the rain and storms had ceased and all flood watches and warnings had expired. Milligan and Crestview, Fla., saw the most rain with about 4.5 inches. Other areas in Florida, Alabama and Georgia received 1 to 4 inches.Even as Ana dissipated, it posed a potential threat to Hispaniola, the island shared by Haiti and the Dominican Republic, where impoverished riverside communities are extremely vulnerable to flooding.Dominican authorities evacuated more than 100 people from areas at risk for flooding and mudslides, but the rains turned out lighter than expected as the system broke apart.Still, officials maintained flood alerts for 12 provinces in the east, warning that the storm could drop up to 6 inches (150 millimeters) of rain in some areas. As of now the rivers are rising above their normal levels, but nonetheless we do not have flooding, thank God, said Carlos Paulino, a deputy director of the Center for Emergency Operations in the Dominican capital, Santo Domingo.Officials in neighboring Haiti, devastated last year by four successive storms that killed some 800 people and caused $1 billion in damage, said they were relieved that Ana had weakened. But residents were warned to continue to be cautious around rivers and the coast. In Puerto Rico, rain from Ana flooded highways in the capital, San Juan, and three schools closed as a precaution in the northern coastal city of Arecibo. The U.S. territory was expecting 2 to 4 inches of rain.

Ana was moving at a relatively fast pace, said Dave Roberts, a Navy hurricane specialist at the U.S. hurricane center. Although tropical storm watches were canceled for the storm Monday afternoon, Roberts said it could still be a big rain event for Haiti and the Dominican Republic, especially in higher elevations.A man in his mid-20s died after being pulled from surf as Claudette approached Sunday. In Bay County, authorities searched for another man whose boat ran aground Sunday night, though they believed he made it ashore.Far out in the Pacific, Hurricane Guillermo weakened to a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds near 45 mph. Guillermo was centered about 525 miles east of Hilo, Hawaii, and moving west-northwest near 20 mph.

2 strong quakes hit off Japan; no damages By SHINO YUASA, Associated Press Writer – Mon Aug 17, 8:12 am ET

TOKYO – Two strong earthquakes hit between Japan's southernmost islands and the coast of Taiwan on Monday, both briefly prompting tsunami warnings, the Japanese Meteorological Agency said. The first quake — a magnitude-6.8 — struck at 9:06 a.m. (8:06 p.m. EST Sunday; 0006 GMT Monday). It was followed about 10 hours later by a 6.5-magitude temblor. Both were about 80 miles (130 kilometers) southwest of Ishigaki. The Japanese resort island is about 125 miles (200 kilometers) east of Taiwan and some 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers) south of Tokyo. After the first quake, Naoto Otake, a police official on Ishigaki, said there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties on the island, which has a population of 40,000.Nothing fell during the quake. Electricity, water and gas are all working,Otake said. There were damages reported after the second quake either.

There were also no reports of damage from the later quake.

Both temblors triggered the tsunami-warning system, and the meteorological agency said waves estimated to be about 20 inches (50 centimeters) high washed ashore in nearby areas shortly after each quake.Japan is one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries. The most recent major quake in Japan killed more than 6,400 people in the western port city of Kobe in January 1995.Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau said the first quake was felt there as well. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

Bay Area lucks out while Santa Cruz chokes on smoke from coastal fires
By Paul Rogers progers@mercurynews.com Updated: 08/17/2009 08:17:32 PM PDT

Smoke from the Lockheed fire in Santa Cruz County has choked the coast with unhealthy levels of soot for days. But because the wind has blown it south, rather than east, the Bay Area has largely avoided the hazy unpleasantness.

The difference is dramatic.

On Friday, there was nine times as much soot in the air in the city of Santa Cruz than in San Jose. As winds changed and the fire waned Monday, that difference shrunk to twice as much soot.Santa Cruz health officials continued to urge coastal residents to avoid long periods outdoors for the next few days, particularly people with respiratory problems. We have seen a lot of elderly and younger people with asthma. They are having shortness of breath, eyes burning, that sort of thing, said Kay McGraw, director of emergency services at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. We're telling people to try and stay inside and keep the windows closed, McGraw said.

Bay Area residents were faring much better.

At the worst point on Monday in San Jose, at 11 a.m., levels of airborne soot, or particulate matter 2.5 microns or larger, as atmospheric scientists call it, hit 36 micrograms per cubic meter. That's about double the particulate levels that were in San Jose's air before the fire began. But Santa Cruz on Monday was at 66. And on Friday, while San Jose had a reading of 17, Santa Cruz hit 162, the worst air quality of the year for Surf City, blanketing the coast Friday it was really, really bad. The smoke was horrible driving home. I couldn't open the windows in my car or at home. Everywhere it smelled like somebody was burning wood, said Karleen Munos, manager of Buccaneer Gifts on the Santa Cruz Wharf.

I've lived here my whole life and never seen it this bad.

The worst has been in the morning hours. The smoke plume hitches a ride. When the fog comes in, the smoke is pushed to the land. When the fog burns off, the smoke dissipates more, said Richard Stedman, a spokesman for the Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District. In the Bay Area, the smoke levels during the fire haven't even exceeded levels in January and February, when particle concentrations in San Jose, San Francisco and the East Bay were as much as three times higher because of smoke from residential fireplaces on cold winter nights. That all could change, however, if the wind suddenly shifts — which forecasters Monday said is unlikely — or if another fire breaks out on the inland side of the coast range. So far, we've been lucky, said Eric Stephenson, air monitoring manager for the Bay Area Air Quality Management District in San Francisco. The Lockheed fire was 80 percent contained by Monday evening, with state fire officials predicting full containment by Thursday. Low clouds Monday morning left dew on many lawns in Santa Cruz, helping the fire fighters.

No homes had burned in the fire, which had charred 7,017 acres.

About 2,200 residents of Bonny Doon were allowed to return home, but 500 Swanton residents still were kept away. A total of 2,172 firefighters were battling the blaze, whose suppression costs have reached $12 million. The cause of the fire, which started near a Lockheed Martin facility at the end of Empire Grade Road, remains under investigation. The Bay Area may have escaped the smoke of this fire, but last year, Bay Area residents were gagged in late June when smoke from more than 2,000 blazes ignited by a freak lightning storm raged across the northern part of the state.

Then, soot levels in the Bay Area reached the levels that they are in Santa Cruz and the Salinas Valley this week.Without a doubt, this is the worst smoke of the year here along the coast,Stedman said. It's a frustrating situation. There's very little we can do to control it.Contact Paul Rogers at 408-920-5045.

The Swine Keeps Striking in Israel Tuesday, 18 August 2009 06:13 News from Jerusalem 50 religious leaders boarded an aircraft to circle Israel

The H1N1 virus doesn’t seem to be going away in Israel or in Palestinian controlled areas. The rate of infection in Israel has risen 3.6 percent in two weeks, infecting a total of 2,148 people in the entire country thus far.In order to combat the spread of the illness, the rabbinate is taking measures into its own hands, starting with the mezuzah. Jews customarily affix the mezuzah, a small box with religious writings, on every doorway. Religious Jews then touch the mezuzah and kiss their hand according to the custom.A doctor at a major Israeli hospital (Assaf Harofeh Medical Center) issued an order to avoid touching the mezuzah upon entering rooms in order to combat the spead of the illness. One prominent rabbi instructed followers to heed the medical advice but to continue symbolically touching the mezuzah in the air. Israel’s Chief Sephardic Rabbi Shlomo Amar said:If a specific order is given in the matter, the mezuzah must be kissed from the air, to ensure that the custom is not forgotten.

Another group of rabbis and mystics took a more lofty approach to ward off the illness. 50 religious leaders boarded an aircraft on Monday and circled Israel while blowing the shofar and reciting religious texts in an effort to halt the spread of H1N1. In support of the flight, one Rabbi said:The purpose of the flight was to stop the epidemic, thus preventing further deaths… We are certain that because of our prayers danger is already behind us.Because pigs are considered an unclean animal in Judaism, many religious individuals refuse to call the illness swine flue and opt for the the term H1N1 or Mexican flu,a reference to the origin of the illness.Aside from the rabbinate’s initiatives, the Palestinian Authority is spearheading programs to stop the spread of the H1N1 flu in the West Bank, where three additional cases were reported earlier this week. Notably, the Palestinian Authority earmarked $8 million to purchase additional vaccines against the virus. The number of H1N1 cases in Islamic areas may rise next month during the fasting month of Ramadan as millions of Muslims travel to Mecca for the Hajj pilgrimage. However, the number of travelers may decrease this year due to bans on the Hajj imposed by at least one country to prevent the spread of the illness.FPB.

Militarization of Swine Flu Preparations Written by Alex Newman Friday, 14 August 2009-14:00

The increasing militarization of preparations for an outbreak of swine flu is proceeding rapidly and without very much public debate, despite the relatively mild nature of the disease so far and the fact that many experts believe the panic has been overblown.Earlier this week, Republican Representative Paul Broun of Georgia warned a town hall meeting that a socialistic elite may be preparing to declare martial law in the United States using a pandemic disease as the pretext. They’re trying to develop an environment where they can take over, he told attendees according to an article in the Athens Banner-Herald. We’ve seen that historically. In another alarming development this week, National Guard troops are involved in a drill to take over a high school in Maine to deal with potential riots and panic over distribution of treatment for the H1N1 virus, the Maine Sun Journal reported Thursday. The National Guardsmen will take on the roles of panicked citizens and military police and practice what they would do, such as using tear gas, in the case of a riot, said the newspaper article entitled National Guard Drill at High School to Prepare for Possible H1N1 Riot. The story also noted that local law enforcement would be involved. This is all despite the fact that the Maine Center for Disease Control has reported just one death tied to the swine flu, and the man actually died from underlying conditions complicated by H1N1,according to Dr. Dora Mills, the center’s director. This is just a component of moving the stuff from point A to B,assured the director of Oxford County’s emergency management agency, Scott Parker. He told the Sun Journal that the plan would only be put in place if needed.Apparently concerns about panic and disorder were raised during a conference in April, so the governor and the adjutant General of the Maine National Guard decided to formulate a plan to bring in military police. But if state military police preparations weren’t bad enough, the federal government now wants to usurp state forces for domestic use under the Pentagon’s command. Though at least the states are fighting back on this issue.

The National Governors Association wrote a letter to the Department of Defense last week criticizing the proposals to take control of their National Guard units for domestic disasters.Strong potential exists for confusion in mission execution and the dilution of governors' control over situations with which they are more familiar and better capable of handling than a federal military commander, the letter stated. But no matter who retains control of the National Guard troops preparing to deal with swine flu, the federal government’s increasingly militarized emergency preparations for the virus are developing quickly and mostly under the radar. Just last month CNN and Fox News reported online that the U.S. military was drawing up plans to deal with a spread of the swine flu.The Pentagon is preparing to make troops available if necessary to help the Federal Emergency Management Agency tackle a potential outbreak of the H1N1 virus, according to a July 29 Fox News article entitled Military Poised to Help FEMA Battle Swine Flu Outbreak. And as early as last year, reports also began to surface that federal troops were preparing for homeland defense missions and would be operating on American soil — in what would appear to be a violation of the Posse Comitatus Act, which prohibits the use of military forces in domestic law enforcement.

They may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control, noted the Army Times in a 2008 article entitled Brigade homeland tours start Oct. 1.The soldiers will also be responsible for things like knowing how to set up road blocks and the use of nonlethal weapons normally reserved for war-zones to subdue Americans.
Additionally, the Obama administration has recently resurrected the heavily criticized Bush-era proposal to update quarantine regulations, while the U.S. Army advertises jobs for internment/resettlement specialists on its website. The federal government’s health authorities operate quarantine centers from Anchorage to Miami, and in 2005 George W. Bush used an executive order to add flu that has the potential to create a pandemic to a list of quarantinable diseases. Will the military be used to enforce the quarantines? It is appearing increasingly possible, if it comes to that. This is all happening at a time when countless experts are warning that fears about the swine-flu virus have been blown out of proportion. In many places the disease even seems to be dissipating. We'll probably see something that won't be that bad, said Ontario’s former chief medical officer, Dr. Richard Schabas. We would not expect it to be as bad as the flu year was in 2003 with the Fujian strain. He noted that a pandemic would be expected to kill thousands just in Canada, but so far the swine flu has claimed 66 lives there. You tell me how overblown that is.… Our preparations always have to be advised not just by the sense of possibilities, but by a sense of probabilities.England’s chief medical officer, Liam Donaldson, recently announced plans to scale back the National Pandemic Flu Service from about 1,600 call-center workers to less than 600 as the number of cases there continues to fall. He warned of the potential for a second wave, but so far the disease has been less deadly than even the regular seasonal flu.Australian National University microbiologist Peter Collignon told ABC News the H1N1 virus was no worse than annual influenza strains. My major concern about what's happening is the fear is out of proportion to what the data shows,he said, adding that the use of the word pandemic was creating unnecessary concern.

But here in the United States, the emergency preparations continue to expand along with the power of the federal government. There has already been discussion of forced vaccinations. And an inspection of so-called executive orders issued by past presidents and continuing under Obama reveals that the executive branch already claims sweeping emergency powers to deal with health concerns.Unless Americans start demanding some transparency and accountability, the trend towards bigger and more aggressive government will likely continue. This time the excuse happens to be swine flu, but there will always be some crisis not to be wasted,as Obama’s chief of staff Rahm Emanuel put it.The preparations currently under way to deal with swine flu are not only unconstitutional, they are probably more dangerous than the virus itself. It is time for Americans to take personal responsibility for their health and their government and to say enough is enough.

Canada needs health czar with powers to co-ordinate response to H1N1: Journal
Module body Mon Aug 17, 7:46 PM By Helen Branswell, The Canadian Press

TORONTO - Canada needs an independent health czar to co-ordinate the country's response to the swine flu pandemic, the Canadian Medical Association Journal said Monday. In an editorial signed by editor-in-chief Dr. Paul Hebert, the journal called for the appointment of someone who would serve as an independent national champion with the necessary legislative powers to be able to facilitate the response across provincial and territorial boundaries. The position would have different - and broader - powers than those of the current federal point person for pandemic response, Canada's Chief Public Health Officer Dr. David Butler-Jones. That's definitely not David's job. I mean, it could be. But it's not set up that way. And arguably that's the issue,Hebert said in an interview. The publication of the editorial coincided with the start of the annual meeting of the Canadian Medical Association, held this year in Saskatoon. The pandemic is among the hot topics being discussed at the meeting. Federal Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq addressed the group Monday. But she refused to answer questions about the CMAJ's call for a health czar after her speech, brushing past reporters on her way out of the hall.Hebert said that while federal, provincial and territorial governments have done a lot of pandemic planning, the early experience with the new virus shows there are holes that need fixing.

As well, there's a potential for problems that could arise as a consequence of the fact that health-care delivery is a provincial and territorial responsibility, Hebert suggested, noting Butler-Jones' authority relates strictly to public health and doesn't cross into delivery of health care. He cannot cross a provincial (power) boundary, except with just making guidelines,Hebert said, offering an example of how the lack of anyone with the power to address health-care delivery problems in a pandemic might be problematic. Let's say Province A, B and C don't do what they're supposed to. ... who can force them to do it? Well, no one,he explained. What if in the middle of the epidemic it really breaks out badly and certain things need to be done and it's clear at a national level they have to be done?... We have nobody who has legislative authority to say: You're going to do this.To me, it's OK when the whole system works,Hebert continued. And it may well (work), and we may not get anything here that's really serious.... But if we don't, we have no ability to manage the crisis the way it needs to be managed. Because there's no one who can step up and say: This is what we have to do and you have no choice.Dr. Andre Corriveau, Alberta's chief medical officer of health, disagreed with the proposal, saying he saw no need at present for such a position. We already have a chief public health officer in Canada, and also we are working collaboratively in Canada,Corriveau said Monday. In our federal system, the responsibility for delivery of health services is a provincial or territorial responsibility, so although we work closely with our federal colleagues and we depend on their support for many of our programs ... the final decision even when we get guidelines on priority groups or other issues, they're really guidelines that we have to make our own at the provincial level.Hebert said the health czar should convene a summit to link public health officials, critical care staff, first responders and other decision makers and community planners to ensure actions taken will work in practice.Pandemic planning at the top has been well executed, he said. But it's not clear the message has trickled down to certain constituencies, including groups such as family doctors, and the public at large. Hebert said he's heard lots of complaints that family doctors feel they aren't being adequately prepared for the role they are going to play.

The top has done its job well. Many communities have done their job well. But rest assured that everybody needs to do their job well this time coming. And that's not so self-evident,he said. The time to get the message out to those groups is now, Hebert said. You don't do it in the fall, when you're really in the mess. The editorial, which was co-written by Dr. Noni MacDonald, the journal's public health section editor, also called for the development of priority groups for vaccination when pandemic vaccine is ready as well as plans to ensure health professionals and specialized medical equipment can be moved across provincial and territorial borders if needed. The ability to move personnel and equipment across jurisdictions is critical, said Dr. Anand Kumar, an intensive care specialist from Winnipeg, where ICUs were swamped in the spring by a heavy load of swine flu patients. Kumar supports the position laid out in the CMAJ editorial.I think if we're really going to plan, at least have some plans for a worst case scenario, then I think you've got to talk about the problem of the way there are barriers between provincial responses,he said.
Personally I think that a really important thing will be the ability to move resources from one place to another.Butler-Jones has said the Public Health Agency of Canada will recommend priority groups for vaccine closer to the time of vaccine availability, in order to be able to incorporate the latest evidence on who is being hit hardest by the virus. Butler-Jones projects pandemic vaccine is likely to be available to Canadians in November. The licensing restrictions that limit the ability of health-care professionals to pitch in temporarily in another province in a medical emergency came to light during Canada's SARS crisis in 2003.Some provinces such as Ontario have since put measures in place to ensure doctors and other health-care workers from other provinces can come to help in future medical emergencies, Hebert said. But he said others haven't, noting Manitoba faced problems in this regard this spring when it was hard hit by swine flu.Follow Canadian Press Medical Writer Helen Branswell's flu updates on Twitter at CP-Branswell

Nationwide Revolt Against Mass Swine Flu Vaccination Accelerates
Paul Joseph Watson Prison Planet.com Tuesday, August 18, 2009

The nationwide revolt against government plans to implement a mass swine flu vaccination program in the United Kingdom has picked up steam, with a poll revealing that a third of NHS nurses will refuse to take the shot.Despite nurses and frontline health workers being the primary target group to take the vaccine, just 37 per cent of them said they would take the swine flu vaccine in a survey conducted by Nursing Times magazine. 30 per cent said they would not be immunized and 33 per cent said they were unsure.Of the 30 per cent who said they would refuse to be vaccinated, 60 per cent said the reason was due to fears about the safety of the vaccine, following revelations that the shots will contain mercury and squalene and have also been linked with the killer nerve disease Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Another 31 per cent said they would refuse the vaccine because they did not consider the risk from swine flu to be great enough. The government responded to the poll by claiming that nurses have a duty not to infect their patients and urged them to take the vaccine, but it seems that many fear the health consequences of taking the vaccine will be worse than catching the virus itself.Interestingly, a London Times article on the story reveals that fewer than one in seven nurses in the UK receives the annual flu shot, highlighting the fact that health workers, who would be in a position to be well educated on the issue, are already fully aware of the dangers associated with vaccines in general. The swine flu vaccine is being rushed through safety procedures while the government has provided pharmaceutical companies with blanket immunity from lawsuits arriving out of the vaccine causing deaths and injuries.

It was previously revealed that some batches of the vaccine will contain mercury, a toxin linked with autism and neurological disorders. The vaccine will also contain the dangerous ingredient squalene, which has been directly linked with cases of Gulf War Syndrome and a host of other debilitating diseases. It was also recently reported that the UK government sent a confidential letter to senior neurologists telling them to be on the alert for cases of a brain disorder called Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), which could be triggered by the vaccine.Following the leak of the letter a senior neurologist told the Daily Mail, I would not have the swine flu jab because of the GBS risk. The last attempt to mass vaccinate the public against swine flu, during the 1976 outbreak in the United States, killed more people than the virus itself. The vast majority of respondents to the London Times article about the nurses’ refusal to take the shot commented that they too would refuse to take the vaccine, mirroring sentiment across the country. At this stage only a deadlier return of the virus backed by a massive government fearmongering campaign is going to make anything like a majority of the population take the swine flu shot.Since the majority of the population will refuse to take the vaccine, the government’s only option will be to institute a mandatory program backed by force, or to drop plans for mass vaccination altogether.

US expects far fewer swine flu shots in October By LAURAN NEERGAARD, AP Medical Writer – AUG 17,09

WASHINGTON – The U.S. won't have nearly as much swine flu vaccine ready by mid-October as long predicted — 45 million doses instead of the anticipated 120 million, a federal official said Monday. It's not a shortage but a delay, Health and Human Services spokesman Bill Hall said. More will arrive rapidly after that, with about 20 million more doses being shipped weekly until the government reaches the full 195 million doses ordered, he said. But the October shortfall, blamed on manufacturing issues, will extend by a month efforts to get people at highest risk vaccinated against the new flu strain. First in line are supposed to be pregnant women, children and health care workers, followed by younger adults with flu-risky conditions such as asthma.Expect vaccination campaigns to start around Oct. 15 anyway, Hall said. They just will have to be smaller in scale than originally planned, as the supply trickles in more slowly. Why would we wait? As vaccine comes in, we'll ship it out to the states. We're not going to sit on it,Hall said. The government had long insisted it was confident in the 120 million dose figure, even in late July as manufacturers from around the world revealed they were having serious problems brewing shots. The chief ingredient is grown in chicken eggs, and companies were getting 30 percent of usual doses per egg as they do with regular winter flu vaccine.

Health officials are working to address that problem by delivering to manufacturers virus strains expected to grow better.A more recently discovered problem is a bottleneck in getting vaccine from huge vats into the syringes needed to deliver them, because of a limited number of those so-called finish-and-fill facilities, Hall said.Another delay is in developing the test needed to make sure doses are at the proper strength before they're cleared for use.The problem is with swine flu vaccine, not vaccine against the regular winter flu. Unlike its new cousin, regular flu is riskiest for older adults. Those inoculations already are beginning in parts of the country, and there is ample supply of seasonal vaccine. As for the swine flu — also known as H1N1 flu, for its viral family — nearly 160 million people are in the groups to get priority for vaccination. But health officials don't expect nearly that much demand, especially since while swine flu can kill, for most people it appears to be a milder disease than regular flu. Traditionally, only about 40 percent of people recommended to get regular flu vaccine do so.

AP ENTERPRISE: Schools gear up for swine flu shots By LIBBY QUAID and LAURAN NEERGAARD, Associated Press Writers – Mon Aug 17, 12:09 am ET

WASHINGTON – Hundreds of schools are heeding the government's call to set up flu-shot clinics this fall, preparing for what could be the most widespread school vaccinations since the days of polio. An Associated Press review of swine flu planning suggests there are nearly 3 million students in districts where officials want to offer the vaccine once federal health officials begin shipping it in mid-October.

Many more may get involved: The National Schools Boards Association told the AP three-quarters of the districts in a recent survey agreed to allow vaccinations in school buildings. In South Carolina, there will be a massive attempt to use schools as vaccination centers, said state Superintendent Jim Rex. He plans at least one vaccination clinic in each of the state's 85 school districts.South Dakota started offering free children's vaccination against regular winter flu in 2007, and this year it plans to offer both kinds in many schools, said state Health Secretary Doneen Hollingsworth. Now come the difficult details: figuring out all the logistics in giving squirmy youngsters a shot in the arm or a squirt in the nose. That's in addition to measures being taken to keep the swine flu virus from spreading inside schools and to keep sick kids at home.Already, Lee County, Miss., schools have reported a few cases of swine flu the first week of school, and a Louisiana high school football team reported 20 players sick or recovering from it.To make sure students wash their hands, Minneapolis schools have outfitted every restroom with tamperproof soap dispensers, so students don't horse around with soap. And the district has a no-excuses policy to keep them filled. It sounds so simple, but it works, district emergency management director Craig Vana said.Bismarck, N.D., is insisting that parents keep feverish children home. We're going to have to be a little firmer on that this year than in the past, superintendent Paul Johnson said.

It can be hard to tell if a child has a bad cold or flu — and swine flu and regular flu share the same symptoms. For many schools, a 100-degree temperature automatically means sending a child home. The goal is to keep schools open; federal officials said last week schools should close only as a last resort. The emergence of the never-before-seen flu strain last spring prompted more than 700 schools to temporarily close, giving students an unexpected vacation as parents scrambled to find child care.

Some big states, like California, Ohio and Massachusetts, are focusing on those steps and not on vaccinations, because they don't know how much vaccine the federal government will send or when it will arrive. Boston has decided against in-school vaccinations because an attempt at regular winter flu inoculations at a middle school last year flopped, and Dallas officials also have decided against school shots. But hundreds of districts are preparing for vaccinations. At least 700 health and school officials joined an online seminar last week by the National Association of County & City Health Officials on how to run school flu vaccinations. The government is awaiting results of vaccine studies that began last week before making a final decision on whether and how to offer swine-flu inoculations. If vaccinations go forward, children are to be among the first in line. They could get vaccine at a variety of places, but federal officials want schools to play a starring role. The vaccine over time will be available to every child,Education Secretary Arne Duncan said in an interview with the AP.And I personally think the best place for them to have access would be at their local school or at a school in their neighborhood. An AP-GfK poll last month found parents like that convenience: Nearly two-thirds said they were likely to give permission if their child's school offered vaccinations. The school setting is attractive for many reasons, said Dr. Anne Schuchat of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Swine flu seems to strike the young most often, and it's particularly easy to spread from child to child. Moreover, school-age children don't see doctors very often,Schuchat told the AP, after they've accumulated the list of vaccinations required for school entry. She added that it should be relatively easy for schools to offer flu-shot clinics because the federal government would be buying swine flu vaccine and sending it free to states. You won't have to screen for insurance. That's been a big challenge in school-associated regular flu-shot clinics,Schuchat said. That slows down the process. There is plenty of experience with vaccinating school kids for regular flu, and there is plenty of evidence it works. For the fourth year running, Knox County, Tenn., vaccinated 30,000 children for free in schools and daycare centers last year. The county often closed schools because of winter flu outbreaks in the past, but it hasn't since vaccinations began. And in the last flu pandemic, in 1968, Tecumseh, Mich., vaccinated 85 percent of its school-age children, resulting in two-thirds less illness there than in a neighboring community. There is an important difference with this year's swine-flu inoculations: Health officials think two separate doses, about three weeks apart, will be needed. Studies are under way now to confirm that. If so, it means any school that offers the first shot must set up for each recipient to get the second dose.
Different school districts handle vaccinations differently. Some will offer only vaccine against the regular winter flu — also important, as both types are expected to hit this year. In Florida's Pinellas County, which includes St. Petersburg, the health department won an economic stimulus grant to vaccinate every student at all 78 elementary schools against seasonal flu, said Rita Becchetti, supervisor of school health services.

That could be confusing for parents trying to remember which vaccine their child is getting.Chicago, on the other hand, probably will have swine-flu shot clinics at select high schools, not elementary schools, saying it simply doesn't have the workers to send teams to more than 600 schools. Berkeley County, W.Va., is considering drive-thru vaccinations at its three high schools, said district official George Michael. In New York City, swine flu exploded in the spring at Saint Francis Preparatory School, which sent home 102 sick kids in one day. Today, City Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley's first choice is for kids to get vaccinated by their own family doctors, but he's looking into clinics at schools or other locations.

There's an awful lot of children who need to be vaccinated,Farley said. Once the decision is made to offer flu shots at school, there are still issues to be worked out.Not only must a parent sign a permission form, but someone needs to make sure it's filled out correctly and matches up with the kid. And there is staffing: Health professionals will need to administer shots and also check kids for reaction to the vaccine.Schools will also need to decide whether parents should be present, said Brenda Greene, director of school health programs for the National School Boards Association. Are you going to do it at a time when the parents can be present, if they want? Greene said.I've heard the kids are more panicky when their parents are around than when they're not.Knox County, Tenn., has always used FluMist, the nasal spray flu vaccine, to eliminate that concern, and will again this year in school vaccinations against regular flu. But most of the swine flu vaccine supply will be in shot form, and program director Jennifer Johnson hasn't decided whether to offer that in schools, too. She said one possibility is to inoculate kids at elementary schools after-hours, so parents could hold scared youngsters and then be vaccinated themselves. The nasal spray is popular. Last year, FluMist maker MedImmune said it sent about 450,000 doses of the nasal spray vaccine to 140 school vaccination programs. The company expects FluMist vaccinations against regular winter flu to nearly double in schools this year.Duncan, the education secretary, understands the more immediate issue for many schools is the start of the new school year. Once kids are back in class, you want to get parents focused on the vaccine,he said.In St. Paul, Minn., vaccinations are on the back burner until school gets under way after Labor Day, said Ann Hoxie, assistant director of student health and wellness. It's not going to be the first thing on everybody's mind. Reading and writing remain at the top of the list,Hoxie said.Contributing to this story from the states were Associated Press writers Seanna Adcox, Christine Armario, Donna Blankinship, Terry Chea, Sandra Chereb, Bob Christie, Beth DeFalco, Melinda Deslatte, P.J. The Fairness Doctrine is Dead, Long Live the Fairness Doctrine
Kurt Nimmo Infowars August 17, 2009

Republican Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa is worried about the future of talk radio. On August 14, Grassley sent a letter to Obama’s FCC chairman Julius Genachowski about concerns he has with the appointment of Mark Lloyd as Associate General Counsel and Chief Diversity Officer. Grassley discussed the Fairness Doctrine with Genachowski before his confirmation by the U.S. Senate and the senator was told by Genachowski that he did not support an effort to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine.
Senator Chuck Grassley was chumped by FCC chairman and loyal member of the Obama commissariat Julius Genachowski.Problem is, Grassley bought Genachowski’s promise. Genachowski knows full well Mark Lloyd wants to purge talk radio of its conservative ways.In June 2007, Lloyd wrote a paper entitled The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio for the Center for American Progress, a think tank run by John Podesta, a former Clintonite and head of Obama’s presidential transition team after the 2008 election. CAP is a Soros funded operation. It is also aligned with Democracy Alliance, a Soros organization that funds ACORN and the consistent money losing talk radio operation Air America. The disparities between conservative and progressive programming reflect the absence of localism in American radio markets,Lloyd wrote in the CAP paper. This shortfall results from the consolidation of ownership in radio stations and the corresponding dominance of syndicated programming operating in economies of scale that do not match the local needs of all communities.A Gallup poll released on August 17 revealed that self-identified conservatives outnumber self-identified liberals in all 50 states. In 2009, 40% percent of respondents in Gallup surveys that have interviewed more than 160,000 Americans have said that they are either conservative (31%) or very conservative (9%), the highest percentage in any year since 2004, according to CNSNews. Only 21% have told Gallup they are liberal, including 16% who say they are liberal and 5% who say they are very liberal.

Of course, this demographic does not matter to Obama’s commissariat. They are determined to refashion America and are not above telling lies during confirmation hearings in order to get their way. Obama’s hero, after all, was community organizer Saul Alinsky who advocated infiltrating institutions and making changes from within. It stands to reason, then, if you want to take over the airwaves, you infiltrate the FCC and then hand down mandates from on-high that eliminate or at best hinder the opposition. It should be noted, however, that Alinsky was a Marxist who believed in social revolution. Obama — contrary to what many so-called conservatives believe — is not a Marxist or even a socialist. He is a minion of a global elite that use socialism as a tool to control people and institutions. It is patently absurd to believe George Soros is a socialist, never mind the drivel put out by the neocons and David Horowitz. It’s not Rush Limbaugh and the Fox News talking heads Obama’s commissariat have targeted for extinction. It’s the real grassroots, the people who dare oppose Obama — and no shortage of Republicans — at town hall meetings around the country. So dangerous is this non-partisan movement, the supposed liberal corporate media is busy painting them as rightwing extremists,gun-nuts, and racist white supremacists who hate Obama for the color of his skin not the content of his character.

It’s all a pack of lies, of course. In his paper, Mark Lloyd says that commercial owners who fail to abide by enforceable public interest obligations — obligations defined by the Soros funded NGOs and think tanks — will be forced to pay a fee to support public broadcasting.Do you think Clear Channel, Fox, and Limbaugh’s EIB Network are bereft of the resources that will be required to pay this ransom? It’s a shake down plain and simple now that the flip side of the New World Order gang is in power. Back in the day when the Republicans ruled the roost, Democrats and progressives were the whipping boys. Nothing significant changes under the sway of either faction, a fact painfully obvious now that Obama has picked up where Bush has left off. It’s smoke screen thrown up by the false right-left paradigm. It keeps the real criminals out of the limelight and produces endless distraction.Genachowski, Lloyd, and the Soros Democrats will use a refashioned Fairness Doctrine — more accurately described as an exclusion doctrine — to go after small independent talk radio stations and networks unable to pay millions of dollars a year in ransom. In a year or two, Beck, Hannity, Rushbo and crew will still be around working the false right-left paradigm like organ grinders. They’ll be a few million dollars lighter but it will be a price worth paying — that is until the parlor game invariably flips and they are back in power and in a position to make the Democrats suffer. The agenda of the elite continues no matter who is in office.Small and independent patriot radio, sad to say, may go the way of the dinosaur in the meantime.

Fed survey: bank lending tight through mid-2010 By MARCY GORDON, AP Business Writer – Mon Aug 17, 2:57 pm ET

WASHINGTON – The Federal Reserve said Monday most banks expect their lending to remain tight through the second half of next year, with the exception of mortgage standards, which already are loosening a bit.The Fed's latest survey of loan officers found that about 20 percent of U.S. banks tightened their lending standards on prime home mortgages in the April-June quarter, down from around 50 percent in the previous quarter and a peak of about 75 percent a year ago.Meanwhile, 45 percent of banks say they tightened standards on nontraditional mortgages, such as adjustable-rate loans with multiple payment options, down from 65 percent in the previous survey.Around 35 percent of U.S. banks reported tightening their lending standards for credit cards, down from nearly 60 percent in the first quarter.Getting banks hurt by the financial crisis to boost lending is critical to a sustained economic recovery.Demand for prime mortgages has begun to revive, posting its first increase in the January-March quarter since the Fed began to track those loans separately in April 2007.The uptick in mortgage demand comes as rates rose last week. Rates on 30-year home loans remained above 5 percent, at 5.29 percent, after reaching a record low earlier this year. The Fed survey was based on the responses of 55 domestic banks and 23 U.S. offices of foreign banks. Most of the banks polled expect their standards for all types of loans to remain tighter than average levels over the past decade through at least the second half of 2010. For businesses and families with tarnished credit, that is expected to continue into the foreseeable future for many banks, the Fed reported. In other lending, around 45 percent of banks surveyed said they tightened standards on commercial real estate loans over the last three months, down from 65 percent in the previous quarter.

While banks' losses on home mortgages appear to be leveling off, delinquencies on commercial real estate loans remain a hot spot of potential trouble, experts say. Many regional banks hold large numbers of them.A dramatic example was Colonial BancGroup Inc., a big lender in real estate development that failed and was shut down by regulators on Friday — the biggest U.S. bank to collapse this year with about $25 billion in assets. Montgomery, Ala.-based Colonial was a major lender to developers in Florida and Nevada and was hit hard by the collapse of the real estate market in those states. Its failure is expected to cost the federal insurance fund around $2.8 billion. The Fed on Monday extended through March 31 the duration of a program intended to spur lending to consumers and small businesses at lower rates, though it said it had no plans to expand the types of loans being made. The Term Asset-Backed Securities Loan Facility figures prominently in the government's efforts to ease credit, stabilize the financial system and help end the recession. Under the TALF, investors use the funds to buy securities backed by auto and student loans, credit cards, business equipment and loans guaranteed by the Small Business Administration.

Commercial mortgage-backed securities, which were added to TALF in mid-June, were extended through June 30 because issuing new securities in that area can take a significant amount of time to arrange, according to a joint news release from the Fed and the Treasury Department.Last week, the Fed held interest rates steady at record lows and again pledged to keep them there for an extended period to entice businesses and consumers to spend more and nurture an anticipated recovery. The Obama administration is counting on tax cuts and increased government spending to revive the economy. And it has put forward plans to rescue banks and curb home foreclosures, also key ingredients to turning the economy around.Lax lending standards during the housing boom allowed some people to buy homes that they couldn't afford. When the boom ended, dragging home values down, foreclosures skyrocketed and banks wracked up huge losses on soured mortgage investments.

White House says it did send unwanted e-mails By PHILIP ELLIOTT, Associated Press Writer – AUG 18,09

WASHINGTON – After insisting no one was receiving unsolicited e-mails from the White House, officials reversed their story Monday night and blamed outside political groups for the unwanted messages from the tech-savvy operation.White House online director Macon Phillips said in a blog posting that independent groups — he didn't name them — had signed up their members to receive regular White House updates about Obama's projects, priorities and speeches. The White House had consistently denied that anyone who hadn't sought the e-mails had received them.It has come to our attention that some people may have been subscribed to our e-mail lists without their knowledge — likely as a result of efforts by outside groups of all political stripes —and we regret any inconvenience caused by receiving an unexpected message,Phillips wrote. We're certainly not interested in anyone receiving e-mails from the White House who don't want them. That's one reason why we have never — and will never — add names from a commercial or political list to the White House list,he wrote. The quasi-apology came hours after the top Republican on the House's oversight committee, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., asked the White House about its ambitious e-mail plan, which included a message from top political adviser David Axelrod urging support for a health care overhaul.Issa also asked White House counsel Greg Craig whether officials were collecting names of the president's critics.

I am concerned about the possibility that political e-mail address lists are being used for official purposes,Issa wrote. This, again, raises questions about this administration blurring the lines between political and official business.Issa also wanted to know how, exactly, the White House was using a separate e-mail account designed to track what it called fishy claims about its proposed overhaul — an account that was disabled Monday afternoon. The White House turned to its blog to respond broadly to its critics — without mentioning Issa by name.An ironic development is that the launch of an online program meant to provide facts about health insurance reform has itself become the target of fear-mongering and online rumors that are the tactics of choice for the defenders of the status quo,Phillips wrote.Issa said he wants an answer on how the administration is archiving those e-mails and what protections would be put in place to prevent it from become an enemies list.In what seemed to be a reply, Phillips indicated there was little chance for cooperation with Issa, a member of a minority political party without significant power. The White House takes online privacy very seriously. As our published privacy policy makes clear, we will not share personal information submitted through the site with anyone,he wrote.Administration officials had been dismissive of complaints that people had received unsolicited e-mail messages or that the administration was compiling an enemies list as conservative Web sites and talk radio programs have alleged. The fear has been expressed that the White House was asking neighbors to inform on neighbors in a government-led data collection effort, said Issa, the ranking member on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.Weeks ago, White House officials asked the public to share critics' e-mails so they could fight back and correct the misconceptions. Because those e-mails are official correspondence with the White House, they must be preserved — unaltered — for decades and eventually released to the public through the National Archives.

Health care concession riles left; right unmoved By DAVID ESPO, AP Special Correspondent – AUG 17,09

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama's weekend concession on a health care government option drew complaints from liberals and scarce interest from Republicans and other critics on Monday, a fresh sign of the daunting challenge in finding middle ground in an increasingly partisan political struggle. The White House insisted there had been no shift in position, adding the president still favors a federal option for the sale of health insurance. The bottom line is this: Nothing has changed, said a memo containing suggested answers for administration allies to use if asked about the issue.

But some supporters of health care overhaul sounded less than reassured.

You really can't do health reform without allowing the government to compete with private insurers, said Howard Dean, a former Democratic Party chairman. Let's not say we're doing health reform without a public option,he added in a slap at the administration's latest move. His remarks were echoed by lawmakers as well as AFL-CIO President John Sweeney, who said the option was the only way to force real competition on the insurance industry.Obama and his top aides signaled retreat over the weekend on proposals for a provision under which consumers could choose from health insurance policies sold by the federal government as well as those marketed by private companies. All I'm saying is, though, that the public option, whether we have it or we don't have it, is not the entirety of health care reform, the president told a town hall-style audience in Grand Junction, Colo., on Saturday. This is just one sliver of it, one aspect of it.The government option has emerged as one of the most contentious elements of legislation taking shape in Congress, with critics saying it is a step toward a federal takeover of health care and supporters arguing it is essential to create competition with private firms.Proposals for creation of nonprofit cooperative ventures have emerged as an alternative, but so far, neither liberals nor conservatives have shown great interest.Obama made his remarks as he struggled to regain momentum for a health care overhaul that has generated controversy among Democrats and near unanimous opposition among Republicans. Recent polls show a lessening of support, and the administration and its allies were thrown on the defensive earlier this month when angry protesters turned up at widely publicized town hall events held by Democratic lawmakers.Republicans ratcheted up the attacks during the day. Rep. John Boehner of Ohio, the House GOP leader, likened the administration to a school yard bully intent on stealing lunch money, and accused the nation's drug makers of cutting a deal with the bully. In a letter to Billy Tauzin, the head of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, Boehner said the industry had agreed to a deal with the White House in hopes of securing favorable treatment and future profits.PhRMA agreed to pick up no more than $80 billion in costs for health care overhaul over the next decade, under a deal with the White House. It also will spend as much as $150 million in the next few months on television ads to promote health care legislation.Ken Johnson, senior vice president at PhRMA, said in response to Boehner's letter: We have been working diligently for more than a year to advance bipartisan health care reform. We're proud of those efforts, and they are completely consistent with our core principals.

The bill faces numerous obstacles when lawmakers return to the Capitol after Labor Day.In the House, where Democrats hold a 256-178 majority, passage of legislation will hinge on the ability of the administration and Democratic leaders to satisfy liberals who favor a robust government option and centrists who prefer the co-op approach.Because they cannot realistically count on any Republican votes, the margin for error is reduced. At the same time, House leaders want to protect their rank-and-file centrists, who tend to come from swing districts, and whose victories in 2006 and 2008 helped give the party its large majority. In a statement, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, There is strong support in the House for a public option, adding it is the best way to lower costs, improve the quality of health care, ensure choice and expand coverage.

But the statement did not rule out legislation that lacks a government option.

There are similar Democratic divisions in the Senate, where the party controls 60 seats to 40 for the Republicans. A bipartisan group of six senators has been meeting for weeks on a possible compromise that would not include a government option. It is not clear whether they will be successful in reaching a final agreement. While the president says he favors a bipartisan approach, he has also said it may ultimately be necessary for Democrats to produce a bill more to their own liking. Jim Manley, spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, said the Nevada lawmaker supports a public option because it could keep insurance companies in check. But he also knows that 60 votes will be needed to get anything done. Senator Reid recognizes there are different proposals on the table that could accomplish this goal, the spokesman said, a clear reference to the co-op alternative. Dean made his remarks in interviews on NBC and CBS. He and Obama are not close, and the administration snubbed the former party chairman earlier this year when it did not invite him to be present when his successor was named. Leaving private insurance companies the job of controlling the costs of health care is like making a pyromaniac the fire chief, said Rep., Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y. Weiner is one of dozens of Democrats who favor creation of a so-called single payer approach under which the government would take over the health care system. For many of them, the government option represents a significant retreat. Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., who chairs the Congressional Black Caucus, issued a statement that called the weekend administration statements deeply troubling. The Congressional Black Caucus remains committed to ensuring that health reform is meaningful, and that means making sure that a public option is part of the package, she said. The Senate Republican leader, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, issued a statement that emphasized other complaints about Obama's proposals. While both political parties believe we need to reform our health care system, particularly in the areas of cost and access, Americans are rightly skeptical about the administration's approach to overhauling everyone's health care and about the more than $1 trillion price tag. Moreover, Americans are concerned about funding new government programs through massive cuts to Medicare and taxes on small business,he said.

Belarus ends work with British PR firm
ANDREW RETTMAN Today AUG 18,09 @ 17:33 CET

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - London-based public relations firm the Bell Pottinger Group has ended its EU advocacy work for Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko. We had a 12 month contract from last August and it has expired, company chairman Timothy Bell told EUobserver on Tuesday (18 August).Mr Bell, who personally handled the Lukashenko account, declined to give further details.Speculation in Belarus media circles is that the autocratic president decided he can do a better job himself without relying on advice from Western experts.Mr Bell, in a previous interview with EUobserver, described Belarus as a country that has a perfectly nice atmosphere about it. He said Belarusian authorities are very hospitable, very pleasant to be with. The Bell Pottinger Group did most of its Lukashenko work out of London. But it also used a small office in the Bastion Tower in Brussels, on the edge of the EU quarter. The PR company steered Mr Lukashenko to give interviews to the Finacial Times and to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Mr Bell also praised the Belarusian president for posing with his young son, Kolya, in official photos. The past 12 months has seen a warming-up of EU-Belarus relations as Brussels tries to extract Minsk from Moscow's influence.

The EU in October 2008 suspended a visa ban on Mr Lukashenko and 35 of his officials. The president in April visited Rome and the Vatican. He was also invited to an EU summit in Prague in May but opted not to go.Mr Bell, a member of the House of Lords, is well-known in the UK for his PR work for former prime minister Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s. He currently advises exiled Russian media baron, Boris Berezovsky, who is a personal friend of Mr Lukashenko.

Trade figures swell hope of EU recovery
LUCIA KUBOSOVA Today AUG 18,09 @ 09:23 CET

The eurozone's trade surplus doubled in June, boosting the mildly positive mood over the 16-strong bloc's economic performance. But analysts warn that recent positive signals are still too weak to suggest the beginning of a steady recovery.According to preliminary figures released by Eurostat, the EU's statistics office, on Monday (17 August), the euro area saw a surplus of €4.6 billion in trade balance with the rest of the world in June, up from a zero difference between exports and imports recorded a year before. It is the highest figure for two years.Back in May, the eurozone's trade balance amounted to a surplus of €2.1 billion against a deficit of €3.8 billion in May 2009.The same positive trend has been only partially copied for the whole of the EU's 27 member states, however. The bloc's trade balance remained in the red in June, with a deficit of €4.3 billion, compared with €7.2 billion in May and €19.3 billion last June. A boost in exports came mainly from Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands, while the UK, France and Spain registered the largest trade deficits.

Across different sectors, the EU's trade mainly benefited the energy business while the surplus fell for machinery, vehicles and chemicals, according to Eurostat.in terms of trade partners, the largest drop in EU's exports was recorded with Russia, Turkey, South Korea and Norway. The bloc also imported less from Russia, Japan and Brazil. While still in the red, the EU's trade surplus also fell with regard to the US and Switzerland. At the same time, Europe's performance improved towards China, the world's leading exporter.

EZEKIEL 38:1-12
1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog,(RULER) the land of Magog,(RUSSIA) the chief prince of Meshech(MOSCOW)and Tubal,(TOBOLSK) and prophesy against him,
3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech(MOSCOW) and Tubal:
4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws,(GOD FORCES THE RUSSIA-MUSLIMS TO MARCH) and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:

41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.(JORDAN)
42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.

EZEKIEL 39:1-8

3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.
4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands,( ARABS) and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
6 And I will send a fire on Magog,(NUCLEAR BOMB) and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.

Ayatollah sees global Islamic Mahdi army ,Calls for Muslim nations to unite militarily under messianic figure August 17, 2009 9:18 pm Eastern 2009 WorldNetDaily

WASHINGTON – Iran's Ayatollah Khamenei yesterday called on Muslim nations around the world to unite militarily in response to the imminent coming of Islam's messianic savior – the Mahdi.Khamenei, through his spokesman Ali Saeedi, specifically beckoned the nations of Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan and Afghanistan to join together with Iran in preparation for the Mahdi's soon coming. The purpose of uniting now, a report in Al Arabiya explained, is to fight Israel and the U.S. – seen as the two greatest obstacles to the coming of the Mahdi and the age of Islamic justice that would ensue.

We have to train honest forces that can stop the obstacles that may hinder the coming of the Mahdi like the United States and Israel,Saeedi stated. Saeedi also emphasized that the Iranian revolutionary guard possessed a special religious authority to prepare the way for the Mahdi.Iran also recently concluded its fifth Annual Conference on Mahdism doctrine in the Iranian city of Qom, from which Shi'a Muslims believe the Mahdi will emerge.Find out why Iran really is the most dangerous country on earth. Get the sizling expos̩ Atomic Iran,by New York Times best-selling author Jerome Corsi, for only $4.95 Рa $12 discount Рbut today only! While the belief in the Mahdi has been widely held by Shi'a Muslims, it has taken on a dramatically more political tone in recent years since the election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, explains Joel Richardson, author of a new book called The Islamic Antichrist, which hypothesizes that Islam's prophesied Mahdi is one and the same as the Bible's Antichrist.According to Savyon and Y. Mansharof an Iranian scholar, From the establishment of the Islamic Regime in 1979 to Ahmadinejad's rise to power in August 2005, Mahdism had been a religious doctrine and a tradition that had no political manifestation. The political system operated independently of this messianic belief and of the anticipation of the return of the Mahdi. It was only with Ahmadinejad's presidency that this religious doctrine has become a political philosophy and taken a central place in politics.Mahdism is now increasingly being used as a political tool by appealing to the religious and nationalistic tendencies of various Muslims groups. This particular call for Islamic unity stands out because of its pan-Islamic, cross-sectarian appeal. While many have assumed that the marked rise in fervor and devotion in recent years in Iran was primarily due to the influence of Ahmadinejad, this statement reveals that Mahdist devotion is also held quite fervently by Ayatollah Khamenei as well.

According to Al-Arabiya, Saeedi emphasized that obedience to the Ayatollah is the same as obedience to the Mahdi or the guided one – who is the prophesied savior of Islam. With news arriving this past week that Iran now has the capability to develop nuclear weapons, the Mahdist conference and this call for Islamic unity under the banner of the Mahdi takes on an added dimension of interest. Last year, one of the presenters at the Mahdist conference, Dr. Mariam Tabar, asserted the, military capabilities of the future Mahdist state depend on Islamic governments in the here and now acquiring abilities to stand against the enemies of the imam [al-Mahdi].
Opening the conference this year, was Dr. Mahdi Mostafavi, the chairman of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, who spoke against the dangers and evils of Christian Zionism. Putting an end to the tyranny and brutality of Zionism is one of the basic goals of Mahdism, he explained.Dr. Mostafavi also offered a wildly distorted version of the Christian end time narrative. Claiming that Christians are making efforts to bring about the Battle of Armageddon, he stated: In order to make this war happen they consider brutality, war and violence allowed and in their propaganda, they ask Christians and especially soldiers to create a situation for Jesus to reappear. These soldiers would be considered martyrs if they are killed in this way and would be in the circle of Messiah's Twelve disciples,Dr. Mostfavi explained. These evangelists try to reinforce their belligerent notion ideologically even by mentioning verses from Gospel. They start war in Afghanistan and Iraq, torture prisoners of war in detention camps like Abu Ghraib, and spread their doctrines throughout the whole world. While the Christian narrative of the return of Jesus is one where Christians passively await a savior to deliver them from an aggressive empire, Islamic narratives often portray Muslims as aggressively and actively pursuing Islamic world dominance, particularly over the nation of Israel. This year, it was also announced that Iran will be establishing a University of Mahdism to train theologians and politicians, according to Richardson, who has been assembling details of the recent conference. One speaker at the conference, Abdollah Adam Gaya from Nigeria, spoke about the need to export Mahdism to the West:[In order] to fight against the [Western] cultural invasion against Islamic Shiite values, we must also export the Mahdism culture to the West… Imperialist powers fear the growth of that culture and therefore they are after attacking it.Gaya also explained that the vehicle of Mahdism was the most effective tool to unite not only all Muslim countries, but also the whole world:

Propagating and defining the Mahdism Culture are the most effective steps in order to establish unity among Muslim Nations of the world because not only Mesianism and Mahdism are the common grounds for understanding between all Muslims but between all religions in the world,he added. While some Muslims have emphasized the peaceful nature of the Mahdi's reign, many in Iran obviously disagree. Adnan Oktar, a prominent Turkish intellectual and Sunni author has repeatedly emphasized that under the Mahdi; no blood will be shed, guns and weapons will be eliminated and any traditions which infer anything different are unreliable. Others however have a very different view. In His work Imam al-Mahdi, the Just Leader of Humanity, Ayatollah Ibrahim al Amini, professor at the Religious Learning Center at Qom affirms Larijani’s comments, when he states,The Mahdi will offer the religion of Islam to the Jews and Christians; if they accept it they will be spared, otherwise they will be killed.Richardson's The Islamic Antichrist has debuted at No. 1 on Amazon in two religious categories and held those positions for nearly two weeks. It's not only a hot book at Amazon, it is also hot in e-book format at Scribd. But it is offered autographed only at the WND Superstore. In The Islamic Antichrist,Richardson, a student of Islam, exposes Western Christians to the Muslim traditions. He says most Christians have no idea of the stunning similarities between the biblical Antichrist and the Islamic Mahdi.Richardson's book stands in stark contrast to most other popular prophecy books of the last 40 years. The student of the Middle East says that after decades of reading popular prophecy books and even best-selling fiction like the Left Behind series, millions of evangelical Christians around the world are expecting the Antichrist to emerge from a revived Roman Empire, which many have assumed is associated with the Roman Catholic Church and the European Union. Not so, argues Richardson. His book makes the case that the biblical Antichrist is one and the same as the Quran's Muslim Mahdi. The Islamic Antichrist is a book almost certain to be greeted in the Muslim world with the same enthusiasm as Salman Rushdie's The Satanic Verses. The author is prepared. He has written the book under a pseudonym to protect himself and his family. The Bible abounds with proofs that the Antichrist's empire will consist only of nations that are, today, Islamic, says Richardson. Despite the numerous prevailing arguments for the emergence of a revived European Roman empire as the Antichrist's power base, the specific nations the Bible identifies as comprising his empire are today all Muslim.Richardson believes the key error of many previous prophecy scholars involves the misinterpretation of a prediction by Daniel to Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel describes the rise and fall of empires of the future, leading to the endtimes. Western Christians have viewed one of those empires as Rome, when, claims Richardson, Rome never actually conquered Babylon and was thus disqualified as a possibility. It had to be another empire that rose and fell and rose again that would lead to rule of this man of sin, described in the Bible. That empire, he says, is the Islamic empire, which did conquer Babylon and, in fact, rules over it even today. Many evangelical Christians believe the Bible predicts a charismatic ruler, the Antichrist, will arise in the last days, before the return of Jesus. The Quran also predicts that a man, called the Mahdi, will rise up to lead the nations, pledging to usher in an era of peace. Richardson makes the case these two men are, in fact, one in the same.

Arab League wants EU to back monitoring of Israeli nukes
LEIGH PHILLIPS 17.08.2009 @ 17:45 CET

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - The Arab League has requested that the European Union back its resolution calling on Israel to submit to international monitoring of its alleged nuclear capability at next month's general assembly of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).According to a report in Ha'aretz, the centre-left Israeli daily, the secretary-general of the League of Arab States, Amr Moussa, sent a letter to Swedish foreign minister Carl Bildt, whose country currently chairs the EU's six-month rotating presidency, urging the bloc to back the resolution, which would request that Israel join the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and open itself up to inspection by IAEA personnel.Though Israel is widely assumed to be a nuclear power, with IAEA director-general Mohamed El Baradi categorising the country as such, Tel Aviv has never officially admitted to having nuclear weapons, preferring instead to maintain a policy known as nuclear ambiguity.Arab states perennially attempt to have similar resolutions passed at the global nuclear energy watchdog's 150-member general assembly, but have up to now not succeeded in winning over other delegations, including European representatives, to their point of view.Meanwhile, since the 2003 discovery of nuclear activities undisclosed by the Iranian authorities to the IAEA, the European Union has been at the forefront of efforts to have Tehran suspend all enrichment-related and reprocessing activities and heavy water-related projects. In 2005, in June 2006, and again in May 2008, the EU presented proposals to the Iranian authorities that would offer Iran help in the development of a civil nuclear power programme in return for meeting international concerns about its peaceful nature.

The EU has not issued similar concerns about Israel's alleged nuclear weapons, but unlike Iran, Israel is not a signatory of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and is thus not bound by its reporting requirements. In the wake of US president Barack Obama's stated desire to push forward with nuclear disarmament and frustration by even some of Israel's closest allies at its devastating assault on the Gaza Strip in January, the Arab League believes it may have a chance this time. The Arab League's letter also comes at the same time that the White House is finalising plans for an international summit on nuclear disarmament. The US is reportedly this month or in the autumn drafting the list of summit invitees. Deciding who to invite to top-level international pow-wows is always a task that is fraught with opportunities for giving diplomatic offence, but this summit is turning out to be even more sensitive than normal. An invitation to Tel Aviv tacitly admits that Israel is a nuclear power, while excluding Israel from the list is unlikely to be effective in avoiding the issue, as other attendees are certain to raise it in any case. The Arab League may also be emboldened regarding the potential for EU backing by recent strains in relations between Europe and its Middle Eastern neighbour. The 27-country bloc remains divided over its stance towards Israel, with, on the one hand, countries such as Ireland and Belgium quietly horrified at the nature of the Gaza assault and on the other hand member states such as Italy, which shortly after the attack repeated its position that Israel should one day join the EU. The EU suspended a scheduled upgrade in relations with the Jewish state as a result of the short war and has said it will continue to keep a foot on the brakes until Israel accepts a two-state solution to the conflict and ends the building of illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.Anders Jorle, a spokesperson for the Swedish EU presidency, told EUobserver: A response is in preparation [to Mr Moussa's letter], but what the answer will be is not yet known.A spokesperson for the Israeli ambassador to the EU, said that there was as yet no official comment on the matter.

Germany negotiating with Hamas, says Egypt
LEIGH PHILLIPS Today AUG 18,09 @ 17:43 CET

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has said that Germany has been working with Cairo in talks with Hamas over Israeli prisoner Gilad Shalit - an activity which may fall foul of the European Union's common position of refusing contact with the militant group. In an interview on American TV broadcast on Monday (17 August) night in advance of a meeting between Mr Mubarak and US president Barack Obama, the Egyptian leader said: We were just about to secure [Shalit's] release in our custody and solve this problem, but external interventions, outside interventions hindered that. But we are working on that and in collaboration and co-operation with the Germans.Israel added certain terms and conditions that impeded progress - that is, in addition to external interventions,he went on.So we are doing an effort, and the Germans are willing to join hands and we do welcome them in order to secure that.

The deal or the agreement was to take care of Shalit and that Israel would release a number of prisoners, and when this is done we will hand over Shalit to the Israelis. We are still following this. Our intelligence organisation is working on that. When asked for further details by EUobserver, German government officials were familiar with the TV interview but declined to comment because the issue involves the country's intelligence services. We can neither confirm nor deny Mr Mubarak's comments. We never comment on these affairs, as this involves activities of the secret services,Rudiger Petz, a senior spokesperson for the German federal government, told this website.Only a parliamentary committee is allowed to ask questions of the secret services. The German foreign ministry also declined to discuss the issue of co-operation with Mr Mubarak. We hope that Mr Shalit will be released very soon, a hope we share with our EU partners,a foreign ministry source said. We do stick to the criteria of the Middle East quartet, which are [that Hamas embrace] nonviolence, recognition of Israel and acceptance of previous agreements and obligations, including roadmap [international peace plan] obligations. The EU in 2003 placed Hamas on its blacklist of terrorist organisations and has declined to have any diplomatic-level contacts with the group since. The EU approach follows that of the Middle East quartet - an informal Middle East peace process group composed of the UN, the US, the EU and Russia. In Brussels quarters however, the matter is not believed to be in breach of the EU common position despite the blacklist, as the German activities are not occurring at a high-level, such as between the German foreign minister, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and the Palestinian militant group.

Nasrallah is scared Tuesday, 18 August 2009 04:46 News from Jerusalem
Hezb'allah knows it may lose everything

Please relax. Hassan Nasrallah has no intention to, interest in, or desire to embark on a military move vis-à-vis Israel. The opposite is true: He is in fact scared that Israel will attack him. There are many reasons for this. The military techniques adopted by Hezb'allah in the Second Lebanon War are today apparent to the IDF. Back then, Hezb'allah was an invisible enemy that emerges for a few seconds, fires, and then disappears. The army had trouble contending with a well-fortified enemy that enjoys the home front’s sympathy and plenty of supplies. However, today the IDF is aware of this modus operandi and is ready for it. Nasrallah knows this well.Overall, the IDF in 2009 is different than the 2006 IDF in at least two strategic areas that change the entire picture, and Nasrallah realizes this. The advanced tanks that back in 2006 were vulnerable to rockets are now equipped with an active defense system. The system includes radar capable of detecting and eliminating anti-tank missiles. And when tanks are protected against all sorts of rockets, they can again decide the battle. The burden has turned into an asset.Secondly, laser systems have been upgraded to an extremely high level in respect to firing bombs, marking targets, etc. Hezb'allah has no answer for these new capabilities, and it knows it.It is also clear to Nasrallah that at this time there is no legitimacy for a military move vis-à-vis Israel; not even among the Shiites. After he was defeated in the last elections, because of his rashness and arrogance in the war, he will be very careful not to repeat the same terrible mistake. After sustaining such a terrible blow form the IDF, Nasrallah has no urge to fight again.

Sophisticated, sly military force
Knowing how severe Israel’s revenge was, how many casualties he suffered, and what kind of destruction he brought upon Shiite villages, Nasrallah gambled and presented his defeat as though it was a victory, while hiding his losses. However, only a few people bought into this campaign of psychological warfare – that is, the Israelis.

Ever since then, Hezb'allah’s and Nasrallah’s rhetoric no longer works. Nobody buys it in the Arab world, and this was proven by Egyptian President Mubarak, who dwarfed Nasrallah to his natural dimensions in the last conflict. The Israelis are also aware of it today. Our public opinion has matured and will no longer automatically buy into his overzealous statements. Moreover, Israel was very scared by the Lebanon War, as the campaign was shifted into its own territory, in contradiction to our classic defense doctrine. Yet the fears abated, and we saw it during the Gaza War. Israel’s citizens realize that missiles may be fired at them for a limited time, and they will go into bomb shelters until the IDF can eliminate the threat. The terrible psychological effect we saw in the war three years ago will not be back. The IDF proved itself in Gaza. A successful war that did not lead to an entanglement and ended quickly created deterrence among the ranks of Hamas, and the more dangerous enemy, Hezb'allah. Israel is back to being a sophisticated and sly military force that must be feared. Meanwhile, the civilians used as human shields by Islamic terrorism did not curb the IDF’s abilities – the opposite is true in fact: The world is starting to wake up in the face of this crime and cynical use of such civilians.

Finally, Nasrallah is well familiar with the golden rule that More is less. He has already been burned several times. In case of war he may lose plenty, and perhaps even everything. The above-mentioned embarrassing secrets will be revealed to all, and it may turn out that he did not secure a divine war or victory, but rather, only self-destruction.Indeed, Hezb'allah’s deception in the last war may become apparent to everyone, and the organization may lose everything.Nasrallah’s fear that the bluff of the last war will be completely exposed prevents him from even thinking about another confrontation with Israel. He is scared, and this is precisely what deterrence is all about.ynet.

Arafat murder accusation latest PA conspiracy libel
Monday, 17 August 2009 15:28 News from Jerusalem Yasser Arafat

One of the few unanimous decisions emerging from Fatah's Sixth General Conference was the resolution that Israel murdered Yasser Arafat. The congress decided to set up a Palestinian commission of inquiry to investigate the circumstances of Arafat's death, and called for an international inquiry to do the same. This is just the latest of many accusations by the Palestinian Authority that Israel murdered Arafat - in fact, it's the fourth such accusation in the last month. But more important than the specific accusation is the fact that it continues the systematic campaign of conspiracy libels about Israel, Israelis and Jews that is an integral part of the PA's continuing hate promotion.PA libels claim that Israel conspires to infect Palestinians with AIDS, spread drug addiction, corrupt youth with aphrodisiac chewing gum and destroy the Al Aqsa Mosque, among other nefarious deeds. The goal is to inculcate hatred to the degree that fighting and murdering Jews and Israelis will be glorified as heroic self-defense.PalWatch.

Turning a Blind Eye to Murdered Christians Tuesday, 18 August 2009 04:02
Islamists destroyed Christian villages in Pakistan

In June, North Korean`s beastly communist dictatorship executed a 33 year old Christian woman for distributing Bibles, while also imprisoning her 3 little children, husband and parents, in conditions undoubtedly ghastly.Several weeks ago, mobs involving hundreds, and perhaps thousands, of enraged radical Islamists destroyed several Christian villages in Pakistan, responding to incendiary rumors about Christians supposedly desecrating the Koran. Hundreds of homes were destroyed, and at least 14 Christians were murdered, including three Christian women and a child who were burned alive as the radicals torched houses and shops.U.S. church groups largely have been stunningly silent about these atrocities. At least the Geneva-based World Council of Churches and the Church of England`s Archbishop of Canterbury denounced the Pakistani outrages. But U.S. church groups like to reserve their fire for what`s really important, such as denouncing Israel for evicting two Palestinian families from their homes in East Jerusalem. On August 2, Israeli police, executing a court order, evicted 50 Palestinians from their houses in the Sheikh Jarrah section of East Jerusalem. Apparently the Palestinian tenants were refusing to pay rent to the Jewish owners, claiming that the homes were rightfully theirs. The Jewish landlords sought the court order against the tenants. The legal history behind the properties, across decades of Israeli, Jordanian, British and Ottoman control, is naturally messy.

This messiness did not hinder Churches for Middle East Peace almost immediately to contact Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to demand that the U.S. insist on the immediate reversal of this ill-considered eviction and on the restoration of these houses to their former residents. The signers include the Catholic Bishop who chairs the U.S. bishops` Committee on International Justice and Peace, the Episcopal Church`s Presiding Bishop, the President of the United Methodist Council of Bishops, the Stated Clerk of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the General Minister of the United Church of Christ, the Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the National Council of Churches, and several left-leaning Catholic orders, among others.Maybe all these senior church officials are still drafting their statements of concern about the murdered Christians in Pakistan and the executed North Korean Christian woman, along with her imprisoned family. But it took only five days for Churches of Middle East Peace to organize its denunciation of Israel after the August 2 evictions, which followed the North Korean and Pakistani murders. It`s not clear why it should take two weeks, or two months, to condemn what should be manifestly deplorable to all in North Korea and Pakistan. The evicted Palestinians lost their homes and their belongings were removed to the street. Hurtful and humiliating, no doubt. But several hundred Pakistanis had their homes and all their belongings burned to the ground by angry mobs motivated by hateful mosque gossip, with 14 Christians dead, and little response from Pakistani police. The North Korean woman was quickly executed after a fraudulent trial, where she was accused of espionage, while all her immediate family were quickly imprisoned in retribution and for example to others. Why do home evictions, however unfortunate, gain more church sympathy than murders and mass arson, or state-ordered execution for religious belief?

The story behind the Palestinian evictions is complex, and even the Churches for Middle East Peace letter to Secretary Clinton offhandedly acknowledged there are legal issues that are disputed. These evictions, even if legal, are deemed provocative, and part of an overall Israeli population substitution to expand the Jewish presence over Palestinian areas of East Jerusalem, the prelates noted. A home eviction order at this time and in this place is not a mere matter of local law enforcement, but raises significant international political issues, they intoned. It also undercuts U.S. efforts to create an environment for starting talks for a comprehensive peace agreement and is therefore harmful to both the Palestinian and Israeli hopes for peace. In an editorial, The Jerusalem Post admitted the Palestinian families dumped in the street after their evictions were not a pretty picture.Their expulsion came after an Israeli Supreme Court decision that the land belonged to the Sephardi Jewish community. The Palestinian homes were built there in the 1950`s when living under Jordan`s authority. After the 1967 Israeli reunification of Jerusalem, the Palestinians remained in the homes but eventually stopped paying rent and claimed that documents from the old Ottoman Empire showing Jewish ownership were forgeries.

Seemingly, the church officials aligned with Churches for Middle East Peace are not overly interested in the details of property ownership in Jerusalem, where both Jewish groups and wealthy Arab groups compete to buy property and stake claims. Instead, these church officials insist that peace in the Middle East requires restraining Jewish population growth outside of pre-1967 Israel. Almost obsessively, these prelates imagine that Israel is the cause of nearly all regional strife and must be pressured into retreat. Neither the Palestinians, as supposed victims, nor their Arab patrons are expected to offer any compromise or any substantive change in attitude or behavior.Amid the preoccupying interest in Israel`s real and imagined sins, these same U.S. church officials show little to no public concern about far more dreadful suffering around the world. State-sponsored, or mob-induced murders of Christians, should seemingly arouse some interest from such justice-minded church prelates. Maybe they are still working on their statement about the Pakistani and North Korean outrages of two weeks and two months ago.Frontpage.
