He said if governors don’t abide by his request, he will “override” them, though it’s unclear what authority he has to do so.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had prepared a draft of reopening guidelines for churches and other houses of worship weeks ago that included measures like maintaining distance between parishioners and limiting the size of gatherings.But that guidance had been delayed for more than a month by the administration until Trump abruptly changed course Thursday.“I said, ‘You better put it out.’ And they’re doing it,” Trump said Thursday at a Ford Motor Co. plant repurposed to make ventilators in Michigan. “And they’re going to be issuing something today or tomorrow on churches. The redeployment is connected to budgetary and manpower shortfalls in Belgium, where COVID-19 has severely impacted the economy and claimed more than 9,000 lives.“The Jewish community needs more, not less, protection in these difficult times,” the Forum of Jewish Organizations of Flemish Jews wrote in a statement published Monday about the plan.Belgian troops were first posted to guard Jewish institutions in Antwerp in May 2014 after an Islamist murdered four people in a terrorist shooting at the Jewish Museum of Belgium in Brussels, located about 40 miles south of Antwerp.Antwerp has about 100 Jewish institutions servicing a predominantly ultra-Orthodox population of 18,000 people.In 2018, an unidentified man was filmed stealing mezuzahs from the door frames of 20 Antwerp homes days after a Jewish man and his son narrowly escaped being rammed by a passing vehicle that swerved in their direction onto the pavement while they were walking to synagogue on Shabbat. VAUGHAN, Ont. — A unique crowbar allegedly used in a violent home invasion north of Toronto led to the dismantling of a drug- and gun-trafficking ring, police said Friday.In total, 17 men and women were arrested and face a slew of charges including numerous counts of drug- and firearm-trafficking offences and robbery, York regional police said.Police said they seized 15 guns along with cocaine, fentanyl, oxycontin and cash.Det. Jason Boulay said the home invasion on Oct. 17, 2019, in Vaughan, Ont., sparked the probe — dubbed Project Stanley, as a reference to the crowbar manufacturer."It was about 2:30 in the morning when four armed suspects force their way into the residence," Boulay said in a video statement. "All the adults in the house were tied up — zip-tied — and forced down on the floor where demands were made for money and other personal belongings."A 26-year-old man was injured in the alleged assault.In March, the force released a video of the alleged invasion to the public. The footage appears to show armed suspects walk up the stairs of a home and beat a victim."The crowbar that was seen in the video of the home invasion was identified as being unique and only sold at one retailer," police said.Boulay said the Stanley crowbar was sold at a Home Depot."Video surveillance was obtained through Home Depot and we were able to identify persons associated to that purchase of the tools that were used in the home invasion," he said.From late March to mid-May, York police and seven other forces began raiding homes throughout the Toronto area and in Sudbury, Ont., as they executed search warrants."This was a complex investigation," said Insp. These are expected to wind down throughout the morning hours as stronger storms further to the north are expected to impact areas of Nebraska and South Dakota. Not long after, storms will initiate in the Central Plains and continue to move eastward.An estimated 16 million Americans are bracing for the threat of severe thunderstorms today. The primary threats include damaging wind and large hail with any storms that develop in the shaded region.Heat alerts are already up across the Southwest in anticipation for dangerous heat threatening nearly 26 million people by mid-week. Grapefruit-Size Hail Slams North Texas in 'Loaded Gun' Atmosphere-By Jonathan Belles-MAY 25,20-weather.com-Texas Storm Brings Enormous Hail-A severe storm in Burkburnett, Texas, brought hail bigger than a softball to some spots as well as some reported tornadoes.
At a Glance-Hail larger than 5 inches in diameter fell in far North Texas Friday night. Heat and humidity were able to break through a lid in the atmosphere. Rain and hail particles may have been pushed upward at more than 150 mph. Hail larger than grapefruits pummeled towns along the Red River Valley Friday evening in an explosive atmosphere.The biggest hail fell in the community of Burkburnett, Texas, located northwest of Fort Worth along the Oklahoma border.Some stones were as large as 5.33 inches in diameter, according to the National Weather Service.We may never know exactly how big these stones were because the family that recorded them had to wait out the storm to retrieve them. This means that the hail likely melted some before they were measured.This kind of hail is dangerous and can be deadly for anyone outside while stones of this size are falling.Thankfully, nobody was injured in storms in Texas or Oklahoma on Friday evening.How do you get hailstones this big?The basic ingredients for large hail are extreme heating and moisture. Temperatures approached 90 degrees near the ground with dew points in the low 70s before these storms arrived.In the case of Friday evening's thunderstorms, the atmosphere was primed for explosive development well above the ground.Several thunderstorms developed in what is often called a "loaded gun" atmospheric setup.Weather balloons launched in Texas and Oklahoma Friday afternoon suggested that heat was building, but so was a large lid on that heat.Think of an old-fashioned popcorn maker.When heat starts making the kernels pop, they start popping faster and faster and eventually the lid comes off. The kernels don't stop popping until there are none left.The atmosphere acts the exact same way.In order to get thunderstorms to grow, the atmosphere has to be unstable, which happens when the air closer to the ground is warmer than the air above it.But if the atmosphere was unstable from the ground to the top of the atmosphere, thunderstorms would leisurely grow taller and eventually run out of steam throughout the afternoon and evening.Friday's storms had a strong lid, or atmospheric cap, that kept all of the heat and moisture closer to the ground.This cap occurs when air rapidly warms with height for a small layer of the atmosphere.Thunderstorms that can get through this layer are able to explosively grow vertically. This kind of setup is called a "loaded gun" atmosphere because storms often start with a bang.(Warmer colors indicate warmer temperatures.)-Once storms push through the cap, they do so with so much gusto that raindrops and hailstones are flung thousands of feet into the sky.Friday's grapefruit-size hail likely rode atop updrafts moving at more than 150 mph toward the top of the atmosphere.This kind of violent atmospheric setup also supports tornado growth.As storms grow rapidly taller, they also stretch and spin.
