Two storm systems, one in the Plains and the other in Florida, brought copious amounts of rain and severe storms yesterday.Just south of Port St. Lucie, 10.65 inches of rain fell in just one day and produced major flooding on streets and roads causing some to have to abandon their vehicles.In Hollywood, Florida, 4 to 5 inches of rain fell just yesterday and 8.5 inches of rain has fallen since Saturday. The ground is saturated which caused additional street flooding there yesterday.Additionally, 80 damaging storms were reported from Wisconsin to Texas with five reported tornadoes, though the damage was reportedly caused by the storms.Today, the storm system in the Midwest will not move much but more rain and severe storms are expected for millions.The biggest threat today will be in Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota where damaging winds, hail and a few tornadoes are expected.This morning, six states from Nebraska to Texas are still under Flash Flood Watch for heavy rain that could cause additional flooding.Meanwhile, the Florida storm will slowly move into the Carolinas with the heaviest rain coming in the next 36 hours.Close to 2 to 3 inches of rainfall is possible from Florida to the Carolinas, and additional 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected from the Midwest south to the Gulf Coast.But while the East is dealing with flooding and severe storms, the West is sweltering in another heat wave.Excessive Heat Warnings and a Heat Advisory have been posted from northern California down to Arizona including the San Francisco Bay area, Las Vegas and Phoenix.Temperatures today will reach near 100 degrees in northern California with some record highs possible there.For Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the worst of the heat moves into the Southwest deserts where some areas could see highs above 110 degrees.Severe weather expected in the Midwest, heatwave continues in West originally appeared on abcnews.go.com

A heat warning has been issued by Environment Canada for most of southern Ontario, including Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent and the Sarnia area. The alert extends to the Greater Toronto Area.High temperatures are expected to be near or at 30 C through to Wednesday, with humidex values in the mid to upper 30s as well.Those living on the lakeshores may have some relief, said Environment Canada. The weather authority and the Windsor Essex County Health Unit say that heat effects everyone. People should stay hydrated, take breaks from work, and seek a cool place.Heat warnings are issued when there are very high temperatures and humidity conditions which pose an elevated risk of heat illness such a heat stroke or heat exhaustion. 2nd forest fire in Miramichi area being fought near Blackville, N.B.-[CBC]-May 25, 2020
Fire crews are battling a second forest fire in the Miramichi region in as many days. Kelly Cormier, a spokesperson for the Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development said Monday afternoon there is a fire out of control about 18 kilometres southeast of Blackville. The fire is about 200 hectares in size."Six air tankers are currently working on the fire and two additional air tankers are on route from Quebec," Cormer said. "At this time no homes are in danger." The forest fire in Barnaby that started Sunday afternoon is still out of control as well. At one point, three homes were in danger but air tankers and fire crews managed to keep the fire at bay. The province has been under a fire ban for one week as dry conditions persist. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement advising there will be hot weather over the next three days with temperatures expected to be above 30 C and higher. "Temperatures are expected to rise during the day on Tuesday. Warmer and more humid conditions are expected Wednesday and Thursday," said the national weather service in the statement.A cold front is expected to bring temperatures back to normal for the start of the weekend.

Two storm systems, one in the Plains and the other in Florida, brought copious amounts of rain and severe storms yesterday.Just south of Port St. Lucie, 10.65 inches of rain fell in just one day and produced major flooding on streets and roads causing some to have to abandon their vehicles.In Hollywood, Florida, 4 to 5 inches of rain fell just yesterday and 8.5 inches of rain has fallen since Saturday. The ground is saturated which caused additional street flooding there yesterday.Additionally, 80 damaging storms were reported from Wisconsin to Texas with five reported tornadoes, though the damage was reportedly caused by the storms.Today, the storm system in the Midwest will not move much but more rain and severe storms are expected for millions.The biggest threat today will be in Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota where damaging winds, hail and a few tornadoes are expected.This morning, six states from Nebraska to Texas are still under Flash Flood Watch for heavy rain that could cause additional flooding.Meanwhile, the Florida storm will slowly move into the Carolinas with the heaviest rain coming in the next 36 hours.Close to 2 to 3 inches of rainfall is possible from Florida to the Carolinas, and additional 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected from the Midwest south to the Gulf Coast.But while the East is dealing with flooding and severe storms, the West is sweltering in another heat wave.Excessive Heat Warnings and a Heat Advisory have been posted from northern California down to Arizona including the San Francisco Bay area, Las Vegas and Phoenix.Temperatures today will reach near 100 degrees in northern California with some record highs possible there.For Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the worst of the heat moves into the Southwest deserts where some areas could see highs above 110 degrees.Severe weather expected in the Midwest, heatwave continues in West originally appeared on abcnews.go.com

A heat warning has been issued by Environment Canada for most of southern Ontario, including Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent and the Sarnia area. The alert extends to the Greater Toronto Area.High temperatures are expected to be near or at 30 C through to Wednesday, with humidex values in the mid to upper 30s as well.Those living on the lakeshores may have some relief, said Environment Canada. The weather authority and the Windsor Essex County Health Unit say that heat effects everyone. People should stay hydrated, take breaks from work, and seek a cool place.Heat warnings are issued when there are very high temperatures and humidity conditions which pose an elevated risk of heat illness such a heat stroke or heat exhaustion. (Reuters) - A broad trough of low pressure extending across Florida and the adjacent Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico waters has a 20% chance of becoming a cyclone in the next 48 hours, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on Monday.The low pressure system is not expected to become a tropical cyclone due to strong upper-level winds, the Miami-based weather forecaster said."Regardless of development, heavy rainfall could cause flash flooding over portions of southern and central Florida tonight, spreading northward to coastal sections of northeastern Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas on Tuesday and Wednesday," the NHC added.(Reporting by Sumita Layek in Bengaluru)
2nd forest fire in Miramichi area being fought near Blackville, N.B.-[CBC]-May 25, 2020
Fire crews are battling a second forest fire in the Miramichi region in as many days. Kelly Cormier, a spokesperson for the Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development said Monday afternoon there is a fire out of control about 18 kilometres southeast of Blackville. The fire is about 200 hectares in size."Six air tankers are currently working on the fire and two additional air tankers are on route from Quebec," Cormer said. "At this time no homes are in danger." The forest fire in Barnaby that started Sunday afternoon is still out of control as well. At one point, three homes were in danger but air tankers and fire crews managed to keep the fire at bay. The province has been under a fire ban for one week as dry conditions persist. Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement advising there will be hot weather over the next three days with temperatures expected to be above 30 C and higher. "Temperatures are expected to rise during the day on Tuesday. Warmer and more humid conditions are expected Wednesday and Thursday," said the national weather service in the statement.A cold front is expected to bring temperatures back to normal for the start of the weekend.
