Now that the Vatican has formally recognized a Palestinian state, there is a tremendous amount of international momentum for precisely such a UN Security Council resolution. In fact, France plans to push really hard for one by the end of this year. At this point, the only thing that could derail those plans is Barack Obama. For years, the threat of a Security Council veto has been the one thing stopping a resolution from moving forward. But now that Benjamin Netanyahu has been re-elected and has put together a cabinet that does not seem inclined to negotiate with the Palestinians, the Obama administration is pledging to “reevaluate our approach” and says that it will not “prejudge” what it will do if a vote comes up at the United Nations. And as you will see below, one news source is now reporting that behind the scenes Barack Obama has already given the “green light” for France to go ahead with a resolution on a Palestinian state at the UN. If this is truly what Obama plans to do, it will absolutely shatter U.S. relations with Israel and plunge the entire Middle East into chaos.Most Americans don’t realize this, but 136 countries already formally recognize a Palestinian state. They are reporting that Obama plans to veto the French resolution…US President Barack Obama has told associates that he intends to veto the French proposal for a UN Security Council resolution mandating the creation of a Palestinian state and an Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank within two years, Channel 10 is reporting on Friday.French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said this past March that Paris planned to start discussions with partners in the “coming weeks” on a United Nations Security Council resolution to lay out the parameters for ending the Middle East conflict.“I hope that the partners who were reluctant will not be reluctant anymore,” said Fabius, referring to the United States, which has traditionally shielded its ally Israel from any action at the United Nations.So what is the truth?-Only time will tell.

(Reuters) - The 1.5 million people expected to pack into Philadelphia this fall for Pope Francis' first visit to the United States will fill the city's hotels, motels and Patricia Hughey's spare rooms.Hughey and her husband are among the more than 1,000 Philadelphia-area households who have signed up to host visitors attending a September summit on families organized by the Roman Catholic church, which will come at the start of the week of Francis' visit to the United States."When I heard that the Pope was going to come, really my first thought was 'Oh my gosh, they are going to need hosts for this enormous crush of people'," said Hughey, who is 57 and said she was raised Catholic in Alabama but is no longer a member of the church.For Hughey, who plans to host two brothers from the Democratic Republic of Congo and a married couple from Vietnam, a lot of the appeal was the chance to show off her adopted hometown and meet visitors from some of the 150 foreign delegations attending the World Meeting of Families. Visitors will pay host families a token fee to cover costs."We love to travel and I love meeting people from other countries," said Hughey. "Hosting somebody from a completely other country and culture is an opportunity that's a little hard to come by."The Pope's visit to the "City of Brotherly Love," which will cap a week in which he speaks to the U.S. Congress and the United Nations, is expected to give Philadelphia's economy a $417.9 million boost, with much of the spending going to hotels and restaurants, according to the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau. "I felt that it would enhance the experience."The Homestay.com site used to connect host families with guests set a minimum fee of $50 per night, with the Web site collecting 10 percent of that. That compares with the $200 or more per night advertised by hotels at least 10 miles outside of Philadelphia that still have rooms available. Some members of the city's immigrant community have also been signing up to host visitors, organizers said. HONG KONG (Reuters) - When the U.S. navy sent a littoral combat ship on its first patrol of the disputed Spratly islands in the South China Sea during the past week, it was watching the skies as well.The USS Fort Worth, one of the most modern ships in the U.S. navy, dispatched a reconnaissance drone and a Seahawk helicopter to patrol the airspace, according to a little-noticed statement on the navy's website.While the navy didn't mention China's rapid land reclamation in the Spratlys, the ship's actions were a demonstration of U.S. capabilities in the event Beijing declares an Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ) in the area - a move experts and some U.S. military officials see as increasingly likely."It's not inevitable but if we are betting paychecks I'll bet that they will eventually declare one, I just don't know when," said a senior U.S. commander familiar with the situation in Asia.ADIZs are not governed by formal treaties or laws but are used by some nations to extend control beyond national borders, requiring civilian and military aircraft to identify themselves or face possible military interception.China sparked condemnation from the United States and Japan when it imposed an ADIZ in the East China Sea, above uninhabited islands disputed with Tokyo, in late 2013.Chinese military facilities now under construction on Fiery Cross Reef in the Spratlys, including a 3,000-metre (10,000-foot) runway and airborne early warning radars, could be operational by the year-end, said the U.S. commander, who declined to be identified.Recent satellite images also show reclamation work on Subi Reef creating landmasses that, if joined together, could make space for a similar sized airstrip. BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Islamic State militants raised their black flag over the local government compound in the Iraqi city of Ramadi on Friday and claimed victory through mosque loudspeakers after overrunning most of the western provincial capital.The insurgents attacked Ramadi overnight using six suicide car bombs to reach the city center, where the Anbar governorate compound is located, police sources said.Fighting continued on Friday in parts of Ramadi, 100 km (60 miles) west of Baghdad, and government forces were still in control of a military command center to the west of the city - the capital of Iraq's largest province.

She spoke to reporters in Beirut after meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam.Activist groups such as the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the Local Coordination Committees said government warplanes have been attacking IS positions on the eastern edge of Palmyra. HAGATNA, Guam (AP) — More than 1,100 people are taking refuge in shelters in Guam after the region was hit by a powerful Pacific typhoon.Winds from Typhoon Dolphin battered the U.S. territory of as the center of the storm glanced off it late Friday.Officials say one injury occurred, and that person was taken to Guam Memorial Hospital. Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Jenna Gaminde had no additional information on the injury.The typhoon's center passed through a 50-mile-wide channel between Guam and the smaller island of Rota. It packed maximum winds of 110 mph.The National Weather Service says gusts are expected to gradually decrease to non-damaging winds by sunrise.Residents have been preparing for the storm for the past day.There have been reports of downed trees, power outages and damage to power transformers.
