EZEKIEL 36:24

Moriah, The Temple Mount

This mount, which rises 141 feet above the valley of Kidron, and 2280 above the level of the sea, appears as a mount only on the east and the south sides, on which it is bounded by the valleys of Kidron and Rephaim; but on the north and west sides it is level with the other ground near it. This is owing to the many destructions which Jerusalem has had to endure, which caused the depressions on these two sides to be filled up with rubbish and ruins.

According to Middoth, ii., § 1, it was 500 cubits, say 1000 feet long and broad. But I found, by actual measurement, the present breadth from east to west 995 feet, and the length from north to south 1498 feet. The discrepancy is, however, easily accounted for; since the present place includes the space once occupied by the fort Antonia, which was to the north, and which being now united and included in the temple mount, makes this a third longer than it originally was.This mount, therefore, now forms on its summit a flat and roomy place of the above dimensions, i.e. 1498 feet long by 995 in breadth. 23 As for the rest of the tribes, from the east side unto the west side, Benjamin shall have a portion.

25 And by the border of Simeon, from the east side unto the west side, Issachar a portion.
26 And by the border of Issachar, from the east side unto the west side, Zebulun a portion.

29 This is the land which ye shall divide by lot unto the tribes of Israel for inheritance, and these are their portions, saith the Lord GOD.

31 And the gates of the city shall be after the names of the tribes of Israel: three gates northward; one gate of Reuben, one gate of Judah, one gate of Levi.

The community had voiced complaints that the threat of anti-Semitism was getting increasingly more widespread — particularly from elements within the country’s Muslim population.Melchior, who is currently serving as a volunteer in the IDF, said he is considering immigrating to Israel and maintained that the attack would likely drive other community members to do the same.“If people were considering aliya before, they will probably consider it ever more now,” he said.

‘An amazing, amazing guy’

Dan Uzan, the attack’s sole fatality and an active member of Copenhagen’s Jewish community, was labeled as a hero in the wake of the shooting. Uzan had volunteered to protect the synagogue on Saturday night as a bat mitzvah celebration was held inside.The slain guard was a talented basketball player, received a degree in politics, spoke fluent Hebrew and lived in Israel for a period of time, according to Yair Melchior, the country’s chief rabbi.“He was a person who was always willing to help. An amazing, amazing guy,” said Rabbi Melchior, who later described the 37-year-old as “irreplaceable.”Adam Melchior, a cousin of the chief rabbi who is currently serving in the IDF’s Givati Brigade, spoke highly of Uzan, his friend.“He was a great guy, always loving and charismatic. It’s too early to be certain, but it seems the battles waged by Hezbollah, along with thousands of Syrian army troops and members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, against the anti-Syrian opposition militias on the Syrian Golan Heights, are only getting started.But for now at least, the momentum is on the side of the Shiite axis, which has managed to capture several villages and towns from the Syrian Southern Front group and the Nusra Front, the organization affiliated with al-Qaeda, considered to be the dominant military power in the southern Daraa province.Still, the outcome on the Golan has not been decided. After a few days of progress, the snow and the rain slowed down Hezbollah. But even now that the weather is improving, the task is not proving easy for the organization, which has been driven to the edge of its military capabilities. The region’s south, i.e. the triangle between Quneitra, Daraa and the southern suburbs of Damascus, is still considered a stronghold of Hezbollah’s opponents not affiliated with the Islamic State. While the rebels’ weapons and military abilities are limited, their motivation is high as the area is considered to be nearly the “last bastion” of non-IS opposition forces in Syria.But even if Hezbollah’s operation in Syria succeeds and the group is able to occupy the Golan Heights, that won’t mean the battle has been won. The organization has made visible strategic gains, defeating opposition forces in the mountains along the Lebanese border, only to see the combat renewed a few short months later. In the Syrian Golan Heights, this is also a likely scenario, as, just as before, opposition fighters will most likely try to regain control of the area, which they too consider critical for their military purposes.But regardless of the outcome of the week-old operation, the very fact that Hezbollah set out on a ground campaign inside Syrian territory is an extraordinary statement. The placement of thousands of the group’s soldiers near the Syrian-Israeli border, with the organization not even trying to conceal its involvement in the battles, signifies much more than just another operation. This is a new strategy. First, on the geopolitical level, Hezbollah is trying to implement the vision only recently introduced by its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, according to whom the Syrian Golan Heights and South Lebanon are a united front. To put it more bluntly, the old order and the old geographical distribution between Syria and Lebanon is now utterly irrelevant as far as the group is concerned.In other words, no more separation between President Bashar Assad’s forces in Syria and Nasrallah’s organization in Lebanon; they are now single entity that controls parts of Syria and most of Lebanon. In the past, the leaders of Syria, including Assad’s father, Hafez Assad, saw Lebanon as part of greater Syria. Now, the sliver of Syria controlled by Assad has become part of Hezbollah’s, or rather Iran’s, greater Lebanon. The old countries have died; long live the smaller Greater Syria — under Iran’s control.Former Lebanese prime minister Saad Hariri spoke in Beirut Saturday at an event marking a decade since the killing of his father, Rafik Hariri. Hariri criticized Hezbollah’s involvement in the civil war in Syria, blasting its recent statements according to which “South Lebanon and the Golan Heights are a united front.” He even called on the group to turn the suspects in the murder of his father, who are of course Hezbollah members, in to the International Criminal Court.Ostensibly, this is a step by a courageous man, who despite knowing that his life is in great danger, formally and unequivocally challenged Hezbollah. But in my opinion, Hariri’s speech was mostly a farewell to the old Lebanon, which was once dominated by Sunnis and Maronite Christians. Hariri also understands that Lebanon is no longer the same country in which he was raised, of even, for that matter, of which he was prime minister. The Arab Spring brought with it a regional upheaval that utterly transformed Lebanon, portending a particularly bleak future for those who are not supporters of radical Sunni militias or Hezbollah affiliates. Perhaps this is why Hariri no longer lives in Lebanon.Beyond the political-geographical changes in Lebanon and Syria, Hezbollah is also trying to reshape its security balance with Israel.Like almost any other body or entity in the Middle East, Hezbollah is also prone to conspiracy theories on which it establishes its military tactics. This month, the organization claimed that Israel was backing the radical Nusra Front rebel group and its advances in the Syrian Golan Heights. Hezbollah members claimed they had seen the transfer of patients from Syria to Israel. What was seen in Israel as a humanitarian gesture was interpreted as an attempt at cooperation between the organization, which supports al-Qaeda, and Israel.This operation led by Hezbollah is designed to prevent what it considers the possibility that Israel will close in on it from Mount Dov to the west, using the Al-Nusra Front and moderate opposition forces. Hezbollah is afraid that Israel will outflank it and lay siege to southern Lebanon from the east, thus causing difficulties for the organization’s activities there. In addition, and perhaps more importantly, Hezbollah and Assad fear that Israel is carving out a path to Damascus via Quneitra and Daraa — one that will allow it easy access to the Syrian capital in the event of war.Hezbollah’s mission is intended to torpedo that possibility. How it will end, it is difficult to say. But what is clear is that the situation on the border between Israel and Hezbollah-land is as explosive as ever.

JTA — From the window of the Jewish Community of Copenhagen’s crisis center, Finn Schwarz can see his country changing before his eyes.Hours after the slaying of a guard outside the Danish capital’s main synagogue early Sunday morning, two police officers toting machine guns were on patrol outside the center — a common sight in France, Belgium and other trouble spots for Jews, but which resistant authorities in Denmark had previously considered both excessive and unpalatable.“I think this attack was a wakeup call,” said Schwarz, a former community chairman who has lobbied the authorities for years, often in vain, for greater security. “What we have long feared happened and we will now see a changed Denmark. We have never seen this much security and guns before.”The deployment of armed officers at Jewish institutions came within hours of a shooting at a Copenhagen cafe where a caricaturist who had lampooned Islam was speaking. One person was killed at the cafe in what Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt called a terrorist attack.Later that night, Dan Uzan, a 37-year old volunteer security guard, was with two police officers at the Great Synagogue when a gunman opened fire with an automatic weapon, killing Uzan and wounding the officers. The trio were standing guard over approximately 80 people who had gathered for a bat-mitzvah celebration in a building behind the synagogue. Guests reportedly took shelter in the basement after the shooting and were later escorted out under heavy guard.On Sunday morning, Danish police killed a 22-year-old man in a shootout who they said was a Muslim extremist responsible for both shootings. The shooter was later identified as Omar El-Hussein.Through the day Sunday, heavily armed police officers remained deployed across the capital and beyond as authorities hunted for accomplices.The attack comes amid an escalation in anti-Semitic incidents in Denmark, including one this summer in which several individuals broke into a Jewish school just weeks after the conclusion of Israel’s seven-week conflict with Hamas in Gaza. Danish police kill 22-year-old suspect after Copenhagen shootings-Reuters-By Sabina Zawadzki and Ole Mikkelsen-FEB 15,15-YAHOONEWSCOPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Police shot dead a 22-year-old Danish-born gunman on Sunday after he killed two people at a Copenhagen synagogue and an event promoting free speech in actions possibly inspired by an attack on the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, authorities said.Spy chief Jens Madsen said the gunman was known to intelligence services prior to the shooting and probably acted alone. Police said he had a record of violence, gang-related activities and weapons possession. They did not publish his name. Two civilians - a synagogue guard and a film-maker - were killed and five police were wounded in the two separate attacks in the Danish capital on Saturday.Witnesses to the Copenhagen attacks said the gunman fired up to 40 shots at a cafe hosting a free speech event with Swedish artist Lars Vilks, who has received death threats for depicting the head of the Prophet Mohammad on a dog. Vilks was unharmed.The gunman then moved on to a nearby synagogue where the guard, protecting a young girl's confirmation, was gunned down.On Sunday, thousands of Danes left a sea of flowers by the city's ornate synagogue."We are a small nation and such things don't happen here," 28-year-old student Frederikke Baastrup said, reflecting a widespread sense of shock in a country that prides itself on its reputation for safety and social tolerance. Police cordoned off several sections in a predominantly immigrant neighborhood and took away several people for questioning, witnesses said.

ON ALERT

Danish authorities have been on alert since Islamist gunmen killed 17 people in three days of violence in Paris in January that began with an attack on weekly Charlie Hebdo, long known for its acerbic cartoons on Islam, other religions and politicians."Denmark and France are the same nations, feeling the same sadness but also the same will to resist, fight and defeat terrorism," French President Francois Hollande said."They hit the same targets, they hit what we are, what we represent, the values of freedom, the rule of law, that all citizens, whatever their religion, should be able to enjoy," Hollande said.Madsen said the attacks appear to have been inspired by the January attacks in Paris.But police who had earlier released a photo of the suspect dressed in a heavy winter coat and maroon mask, said they did not believe he had received training in jihadist camps in the Middle East.The man had two handguns on him when he was killed and the police search later found an automatic weapon that may have been used in Saturday's attacks.The gunman's primary target was likely to have been the free speech event with Vilks.Dozens of bullets were fired in quick succession, probably from an automatic weapon, according to a recording of the event obtained by Danish TV2.Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt said the attacks were terrorism but said this was not the start of a war between the West and Islam."When you mercilessly fire deadly bullets at innocent people taking part in a debate, when you attack the Jewish community, you attack our democracy," Thorning-Schmidt said outside the synagogue. "We will do everything possible to protect our Jewish community."Denmark became a target of violent Islamists 10 years ago after the publication of cartoons lampooning the Prophet Mohammad, images which led to sometimes fatal protests in the Muslim world. Many Muslims consider any representation of the Prophet blasphemous.Vilks stirred controversy himself in 2007 with drawings depicting Mohammad's head on a dog, triggering death threats. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said such attacks would likely continue and said Israel would welcome European Jews who choose to move to there.Witnesses said French ambassador Francois Zimeray had just finished introducing the cafe event, entitled "Art, Blasphemy and Freedom of Expression", when the assailant opened fire.The venue was heavily guarded by police, who fired back, but the attacker nevertheless escaped.Vilks, sheltered on the floor of a cold room at the back of the cafe with one of the event's organizers."The rather spare audience got to experience fear and horror - and tragedy. Egyptian Church confirms 21 killed in Libya after Islamic State issues video-Reuters-FEB 15,15-YAHOONEWS

CAIRO (Reuters) - Islamic State released a video on Sunday purporting to show the beheading of a group of Egyptian Christians kidnapped in Libya, violence likely to deepen Cairo's concerns over security threats from militants thriving in the neighboring country's chaos.Egypt's state news agency MENA quoted the spokesman for the Coptic Church as confirming that 21 Egyptian Christians believed to be held by Islamic State were dead.In the video, militants in black marched the captives, dressed in orange jump suits, to a beach the group said was near Tripoli. They were forced down onto their knees, then beheaded.The video appeared on the Twitter feed of a website that supports Islamic State, which has seized parts of Iraq and Syria and has also beheaded Western hostages.A caption on the five-minute video read: "The people of the cross, followers of the hostile Egyptian church."Thousands of Egyptians have traveled to Libya in search of jobs since an uprising at home in 2011, despite advice from their government not to go to a country sliding into lawlessness.Before the killings, one of the militants stood with a knife in his hand and said: "Safety for you crusaders is something you can only wish for."President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called a seven-day mourning period and an urgent meeting of Egypt's top military commanders, state television reported.The Coptic Church said it was confident the Cairo government would seek justice. Al Azhar, the center of Islamic learning in Egypt, said no religion would accept such "barbaric" acts.The families of the kidnapped workers had urged Cairo to help secure their release. In the southerly Minya Governorate, relatives screamed and fainted upon hearing news of the deaths.

CONCERNS ABOUT LIBYA

Sisi has repeatedly expressed concerns about militants based in Libya who are seeking to topple his government.Those militants have made contact with Sinai Province, a group operating from Egypt's Sinai Peninsula that has changed its name from Ansar Beyt al-Maqdis and pledged allegiance to Islamic State.The group has killed hundreds of Egyptian soldiers and police since the army toppled Islamist president Mohamed Mursi in 2013 after mass protests against his rule.With Libya caught in a chaotic power struggle between two rival factions operating their own governments, Western officials fear Islamist militants are taking advantage of the turmoil to strengthen their presence.A number of Islamist militant groups have been active since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 left Libya without a strong central government. A few have declared ties to the radical Islamic State and claimed high-profile attacks over recent weeks in what appears to be an intensifying campaign.Last month, Islamic State claimed responsibility when at least two gunmen stormed into the five-star Corinthia Hotel in Tripoli, killing nine people, including an American security contractor and a Frenchman.Fears that the crisis in neighboring Libya could spill across the border have prompted Egypt to upgrade its military hardware. LUMPUR, Feb 16 ― Still reeling from the crash of Flight QZ 8501 last year, low-cost carrier AirAsia’s troubles are mounting as problems surface with its foreign operations, according to the Wall Street Journal.In a report yesterday, the US daily said both increasing competition and the flagging performance of its regional operations ― chiefly in Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines are raising questions about the viability of AirAsia’s franchise model.While the standardisation achieved by AirAsia despite being the minority stakeholder in the foreign partnerships has allowed it to bank on its brand recognition, this has come at a price to operations and profitability.The WSJ pointed out that the franchise model made affiliates less cost competitive, with Indonesia AirAsia paying US$5.14 (RM18.3) per available seat km while for Thailand AirAsia, it was US$5.24. With AirAsia in Malaysia, the same metric was US$3.99.“No matter what, the cost is going to be higher than the main company,” Brian Thomas Hogan, managing director of XSQ Aviation Consultancy and a former head of Zest Air that later partnered AirAsia in the Philippines, told the WSJ. Beyond the added costs of partnering AirAsia, other tie-ups have foundered owing to the degree of control that the Malaysian-based carrier exercises ― or attempts to exercise ― despite technically being the smaller stakeholder.AirAsia’s collaboration with ANA of Japan was called off owing, according to the WSJ, as the Japanese firm did not conform to practices such as online ticketing and early check-in requirement that with the low-cost carrier was known for.Similar issues also led to the abortive joint-venture with VietJet Aviation JSC in Vietnam, which was ended at the proposal stage owing to “cultural differences”.“Vietnamese people have their own way of thinking about how to manage the company, and AirAsia thought it could do it the AirAsia way,” the WSJ cited one unnamed source familiar with the failed deal.These, along with the continued fallout from QZ 8501, have weighed on AirAsia’s performance, leading it to register its slowest growth in passenger volume last year, an estimated 9.3 per cent year-on-year, since it began operations over a decade ago.Flight QZ 8501 disappeared from radar screens on December 28 while en route from Surabaya, Indonesia to Singapore. All 162 people on board were killed.Owned by Malaysian entrepreneur Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, AirAsia began operations in 2002 as a budget airline and now has a fleet of over 150 Airbus A320s, offering flights to over 88 destinations.

The body of a British man who died when an AirAsia flight crashed in the Java Sea in December has been found, according to the Foreign Office.Choi Chi-Man, 48, was travelling with his two-year-old daughter Zoe on flight QZ8501 from Surabaya, Indonesia to Singapore when it disappeared on 27 December with 162 people on board.Mr Choi, who has family in Hull, was managing director of an energy firm.An investigation into the cause of the crash is still continuing.In a statement the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: "We can confirm the identification of the British victim of Air Asia flight QZ8501, Choi Chi-Man ."Our thoughts are with his family and we continue to provide them with support at this difficult time."Last month, in a statement to an Indonesian parliamentary committee, the country's transport minister Ignasius Jonan said the plane was believed to have stalled after climbing too fast to avoid a storm.
