The IDF has raised the terror alert level on Israel's border with Syria in the Golan Heights, foreign media reported Monday night, after the IAF reportedly attacked a Syrian military target Sunday. Several "Iron Dome" missile defense batteries have been deployed along the border, ahead of possible attacks from both government and rebel groups in Syria, according to Sky News.The IDF has refused to comment on the reports, as per its policy of ignoring foreign media reports.On Sunday, Hezbollah commander Jihad Mughniyeh was killed in an airstrike in the Syrian Golan allegedly carried out by Israel.Israeli intelligence sources revealed Monday that he was the head of a "broad and deep" Iranian-sponsored terrorist network. It is suspected that Mughniyeh was planning serious attacks against Israel, including rocket attacks, infiltrations, and using explosives and anti-tank missiles.The strike also killed six Iranian solders and commanders, including an Iranian general.An Israeli security source confirmed that an Israeli helicopter had carried out a strike against terrorists in the Golan who were allegedly planning an attack.Hezbollah responded by vowing an attack on Israel, but made clear it does not want another full-scale war."What happened is that the Israelis called Hezbollah's bluff last night," said Hilal Khashan, a professor of political science at the American University in Beirut. "Hezbollah will not be able to retaliate, because if it retaliates, it will be another war. (Reuters) - Four people were killed and others injured in crashes on icy roads in Pennsylvania and Connecticut on Sunday morning, authorities said.The icy conditions also led to numerous crashes and road closures in Maryland. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority temporarily suspended bus services in New York's Bronx borough.Light rain in the Philadelphia area caused flash-freezing on the roads and reports of numerous crashes that shut parts of Interstate 76 and other highways, said Eugene Blaum, spokesman for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.Up to 60 vehicles were involved in a crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 76, resulting in at least one death, a state patrol lieutenant said.Two people died in crash on an icy highway just west of Philadelphia in Delaware County, according the Pennsylvania State police. No other details were available.In Connecticut, an 88-year-old woman died after losing control of her car on an icy road in New Haven, the city's police department said in statement. There were about 40 accidents in the city blamed in slippery roads, police said.Blaum said that icing forced the closure of parts of Interstate 95 and other roads in Philadelphia and that the transportation department had dispatched nearly 150 salt trucks. The IDF has raised the terror alert level on Israel's border with Syria in the Golan Heights, foreign media reported Monday night, after the IAF reportedly attacked a Syrian military target Sunday. Several "Iron Dome" missile defense batteries have been deployed along the border, ahead of possible attacks from both government and rebel groups in Syria, according to Sky News.The IDF has refused to comment on the reports, as per its policy of ignoring foreign media reports.On Sunday, Hezbollah commander Jihad Mughniyeh was killed in an airstrike in the Syrian Golan allegedly carried out by Israel.Israeli intelligence sources revealed Monday that he was the head of a "broad and deep" Iranian-sponsored terrorist network. It is suspected that Mughniyeh was planning serious attacks against Israel, including rocket attacks, infiltrations, and using explosives and anti-tank missiles.The strike also killed six Iranian solders and commanders, including an Iranian general.An Israeli security source confirmed that an Israeli helicopter had carried out a strike against terrorists in the Golan who were allegedly planning an attack.Hezbollah responded by vowing an attack on Israel, but made clear it does not want another full-scale war."What happened is that the Israelis called Hezbollah's bluff last night," said Hilal Khashan, a professor of political science at the American University in Beirut. "Hezbollah will not be able to retaliate, because if it retaliates, it will be another war. Hezbollah is in Syria and it is not ready for another war against Israel."That "bluff" was stated clearly last week, when Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah bombastically threatened to conquer the northern Galilee region of Israel in two separate interviews.

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japanese air force jets are scrambling at a record pace to counter Chinese fighters intruding into its air space along its southern flank and Russian bombers and spy planes probing its northern defenses, the Defence Ministry said on Tuesday.Chinese fighter flights have increased in and around the energy-rich East China Sea, where Japan and China both lay claim to a group of islets.In the nine months ending Dec 31, Japanese fighters scrambled 744 times, 32 percent more than the same period the previous year, the ministry said. Encounters with Chinese aircraft, which accounted for half of the nine month total, jumped to 164 in the final quarter of 2014, the most since 1958, when records began.At the current pace, scrambles for the year to March 31 would exceed the 944 encounters logged 30 years ago at the height of the Cold War."With only three quarters of data available, we can't yet say whether it will be a record year," a spokesman for Japan's Air Self-Defence Force told reporters.In the last three months, Japanese jest scrambled 369 times to meet Russian planes, four times the pace of a decade ago.Japan's Hokkaido island to the north of the country's main land mass lies close to four smaller islands which are claimed both by Japan and Russia. (Reuters) - Four people were killed and others injured in crashes on icy roads in Pennsylvania and Connecticut on Sunday morning, authorities said.The icy conditions also led to numerous crashes and road closures in Maryland. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority temporarily suspended bus services in New York's Bronx borough.Light rain in the Philadelphia area caused flash-freezing on the roads and reports of numerous crashes that shut parts of Interstate 76 and other highways, said Eugene Blaum, spokesman for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.Up to 60 vehicles were involved in a crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 76, resulting in at least one death, a state patrol lieutenant said.Two people died in crash on an icy highway just west of Philadelphia in Delaware County, according the Pennsylvania State police. No other details were available.In Connecticut, an 88-year-old woman died after losing control of her car on an icy road in New Haven, the city's police department said in statement. There were about 40 accidents in the city blamed in slippery roads, police said.Blaum said that icing forced the closure of parts of Interstate 95 and other roads in Philadelphia and that the transportation department had dispatched nearly 150 salt trucks.
