2 earthquakes hit Indonesia's Aceh Sat Nov 18, 10:36 PM ET

JAKARTA, Indonesia - Two moderate earthquakes within two minutes on Saturday rocked Aceh on the northwestern tip of Indonesia's Sumatra island, prompting panicked residents to flee their homes.

No casualties or damages were immediately reported in the area which was the hardest hit by a Dec. 26, 2004 tsunami triggered by a massive undersea earthquake. The quake did not trigger a tsunami but traumatized residents fled their homes immediately after they felt the jolts. They returned after about an hour.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the two magnitude-5.8 tremors were centered 31 and 35 miles beneath the Indian Ocean, 60 miles southwest of the provincial capital Banda Aceh.A magnitude-9 earthquake triggered the 2004 tsunami that killed more than 131,000 people in Aceh province and left a half-million homeless.Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago, is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, an arc of volcanos and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin.

26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

Winter Weather Center Northwest Storminess Still the Only Story
Posted: 19-NOV-2006 06:12am EST

The semi-permanent Gulf of Alaska low pressure system will send another series of storm systems into the Pacific Northwest heading through much of next week. The first system will arrive Sunday, with a cold front pushing through Sunday night. Although potent, this system will be centered well to the north in British Columbia when it pushes onshore, sending warmer air well to the north once again. This means snow levels will be above most of the passes for the duration of the storm, and will not fall until later Sunday night and Monday, when a few slushy inches could occur across the major passes.

On Tuesday, another storm system will take shape off the Northwest Coast. This time there will be cold air in place, in the wake of the first system. Also, most of its energy and moisture will be focused farther south, and when the low pressure center does finally come onshore, it will be much farther south, allowing cold air to remain in place. Thus the Cascades will see another onslaught of heavy snow during the Tuesday through Thursday period, with colder air and moisture spreading into northern and central Idaho as well. Before the storm finally pushes inland later in the week, and drier air is allowed into the region, several feet of snow will have
accumulated in the Cascades.

Outside of the Pacific Northwest, the rest of the country will be unusually quiet. While it is not out of the ordinary to see such a lack of cold air in mid- to late November, it is unusual to see such a lack of storm systems. With an area of low pressure cutting-off off the Southeast Coast, the jet stream will be forced to flow around it, well to the north of the eastern two-thirds of the country. Thus, most of the country will see increasingly quiet weather heading into Thanksgiving week, with only the beginnings of chillier air and a more southern storm track arriving next weekend.By AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Alex Dodd

EARTH DESTROYED WITH THE EARTH

GENESIS 6:11-13
11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.(WORLD TERRORISM,MURDERS)
12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence (TERRORISM) through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

FOURTH ANGEL: REVEALED TO DR DOCTORIAN.

Now we go to Africa. I saw the fourth angel with wings fly over Africa, and I could see from Capetown in the south all the way to the north of Cairo - I saw all the countries there, more than fifty of them. The angel of Africa had a sword in his hand - a tremendous, sharp sword. Suddenly I heard him say, Innocent blood has been shed. Divisions amongst the people generations far from the Lord - they have killed one another, thousands of people. I have seen my faithful children in Africa, and I shall reward all the faithful in the continent of Africa. I shall bless them abundantly. I shall control the weather - scorching and burning of the sun in some parts. Great rivers shall dry up, and millions will die from starvation. In other parts, flooding. Foundations shall be shaken. My sword shall judge the unrighteous and the bloodthirsty. So many earthquakes shall happen that rivers shall flow different directions in the continent, flooding many villages. I saw great pieces falling from the sky over different parts of Africa There shall be trembling of the earth like has not been seen since the creation. None shall escape the sword of the Lord. I saw the River Nile drying up. It is the god of Egypt.

Fishes dead and stinking all over Egypt. A great part of the middle of Africa will be covered with water - millions dying. Lord, I said, It is all bad news. All destruction. Any good news? The Lord said, The final day has come. Judgment day is here. My love has been refused now, and the end has come. I was shaking and trembling. I thought I cannot bear it.

Flood-hit refugees call for help in Kenya
18 Nov 2006 08:21:34 GMT,Source: Reuters,Somalia troubles ,By Richard Lough

DADAAB, Kenya, Nov 18 (Reuters) - Solomon Pile waded waist-deep through the flood water carrying his bicycle above his head, searching for higher ground after torrential rain swept away his family's makeshift shelter. We need help, the 17-year-old Somali refugee called out, swaying unsteadily in the fast-flowing water. We left the camp and moved into the bush, but our food has been spoiled and we are drinking the floodwater. This week the U.N. said more than 78,000 people had lost their homes to floods in northeastern Kenya's Dadaab area, and three vast refugee camps there were completely cut off.Torrential rains and floods have hit up to 1.8 million people in the Horn of Africa, driving tens of thousands from their homes and threatening to trigger epidemics, U.N. aid bodies say.

Some 160,000 mostly Somalis shelter in the Dadaab camps Ifo, Dagahaley and Hagadera in shacks of twisted sticks and plastic sheets, having fled growing tensions in their homeland. On Friday, the UNHCR refugee agency had hoped to deliver emergency aid to the worst affected groups, particularly the sick and elderly. But the fast-rising waters drove them back.Four-wheel-drive vehicles became bogged down in thick mud and were left to be recovered later. Staff returned to Dadaab town on foot. More rain is forecast over the next two weeks. The U.N. is now considering using donkeys and carts, or even boats, to distribute supplies.

REDIRECT WATERS

Satimo Ibrahim, a 40-year-old mother of six, said things were so bad she had seen people sleeping on top of toilet blocks to escape the floods. Her family was sleeping in a crumbling kitchen, after their three-bedroom shack was swept away. Our immediate need is to redirect the waters away from the houses that remain standing, she said. The hospital at Ifo camp was badly damaged by the floods, and some patients had to be moved on stretchers. On Friday, a mechanical digger hacked out protection dikes around Dagahaley camp as residents were called to stack sandbags around other medical centres and lift hundreds of sacks of U.N. World Food Programme (WFP) maize and sorghum onto pallets out of reach of the waters.WFP said more than 30 tonnes of food was already spoiled.UNHCR temporarily withdrew all its staff from the three camps on Friday, and encouraged residents to move to higher ground where it is preparing water points and latrines. They say they are preparing for possible typhoid, cholera and malaria outbreaks, but they have met some resistance. We can't shift because we would be leaving all our necessities behind, said Ifo camp chairman Ahmed Aden chewing his last leaves of khat, a mild stimulant now in short supply. What about the aid agency offices, the ration distribution centre and the hospital?

N.C. officials: $500K in tornado damage Sun Nov 19, 1:21 AM ET

RIEGELWOOD, N.C. - A tornado that killed eight people in southeastern North Carolina caused at least $500,000 worth of damage, officials said.Kip Godwin, chairman of the Columbus County Board of Commissioners, said Saturday that damage assessment teams determined that 13 homes in the Riegelwood area were destroyed. One home had major damage and a couple dozen more had minor damage, he said. The damage estimate could increase after officials analyze tax values, Godwin said. The tornado hit a mobile home park in Riegelwood early Thursday. Cleanup efforts continued Saturday as victims tried to uncover some of their belongings. Also Saturday, a disaster assistance center opened to help storm victims apply for state disaster grants and loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.Four children were listed in critical condition at hospitals Friday, and Godwin said Saturday there were no updates on their conditions. The tornado was part of a devastating line of thunderstorms that killed 12 as they swept across the South. Riegelwood is a small town on the Cape Fear River about 20 miles west of coastal Wilmington.

Asia-Pacific Leaders End Summit With Pledge for Freer Trade, Concern
Over North Korea Test (VOA)

President Bush has joined with leaders of 20 other Asia-Pacific economies in a pledge to advance stalled global trade talks.

That pledge came Sunday at the close of the annual summit of APEC, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation grouping in Vietnam, where leaders also joined in expressing concern over North Korea's nuclear test. The week-long annual meeting of Asia-Pacific business people and ministers aimed to break the impasse in world trade negotiations, which stalled in July, mostly over a dispute on farm subsidies that divide rich and poor countries. At the close Sunday, leaders gathered for the traditional summit photowearing Vietnamese outfits. Host Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet read the leaders declaration, saying the 21 member economies must spare no effort to break the deadlock in global trade talks and achieve a balanced outcome. He says his government will look at measures to promote regional economic integration to aid APEC's goal of liberalizing trade.

Those measures include removing obstacles for business, protecting copyrights, creating ways to fight health pandemics, terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Vietnam hosted the APEC meeting days after it was admitted to the World Trade Organization, marking a major milestone for the communist country in its efforts to keep its economy booming, and open itself to foreign trade and investment.

Leaders also agreed to look for ways to start a U.S.-backed plan for a trans-Pacific free trade area that would stretch from China to Chile, and from Australia to Canada. Discussion of that plan is set to begin at next year's APEC meeting in Australia.

Regional security was another big theme, after North Korea's October 9 nuclear test. While not written in the final declaration, APEC leaders verbally expressed strong concern, and stressed the need for members to comply with U.N. sanctions imposed on
the North.Pledges made at APEC are non-binding. However, analysts see the gatherings as significant, considering that APEC economies account for roughly half of the world's Gross Domestic Product.President Bush headed to Vietnam's bustling commercial center, Ho Chi Minh City - formerly Saigon - on Sunday, following a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose country is one of the six participants in the North Korean nuclear disarmament talks.

8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.
9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.(RUSSIA-EGYPT AND MUSLIMS)
10 Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,
12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.

2 And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts,(RUSSIA) and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.
4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands,( ARABS) and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
5 Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
6 And I will send a fire on Magog,(NUCLEAR BOMB) and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
7 So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.
8 Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this is the day whereof I have spoken.

JOEL 2:3,20,30-31
3 A fire(NUCLEAR BOMB) devoureth before them;(RUSSIA-ARABS) and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.

Kassams Send Sderot Victims to Hospital
By Hillel Fendel (INN)

Over ten Kassam rockets were fired at Sderot and environs over the weekend - and the last one has left a resident in moderate to-serious condition the fourth major casualty in four days. Two Kassam rockets were fired at the western Negev early Sunday morning, causing no injuries but shortly before 7:45 AM, another volley hit Sderot, and this time the people were not as fortunate. Shrapnel from one of the deadly projectiles hit one person, causing him moderate-to-serious injuries. A Magen David Adom emergency health crew treated him on the spot, but he was then taken by ambulance to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon. Two other people were also taken to the hospital to be treated for shock. This past Wednesday morning, Fatima Slutzker a Moslem woman, mother of two, who immigrated to Israel with her Jewish husband and their two sons several years ago was killed by a Kassam rocket. In the same attack, Maor Peretz, a guard at the home of Sderot resident Defense Minister Amir Peretz, was seriously injured, and both of his legs were subsequently amputated below the knee. On Thursday, a 17-year-old youth was seriously wounded by rocket shrapnel in his stomach.

It was later reported that yet another Kassam was fired, landing in the Eshkol region of the western Negev around 8:15 AM and causing no injuries. The Cabinet ministers will discuss various options to the ongoing rocket strikes at Israel's civilian population.

Though several ministers have been quoted as saying that 'no other country would tolerate such a situation' and the like, the Cabinet is not expected to approve a wide-scale military operation in Gaza. An IDF strike at a vehicle in Gaza this afternoon reportedly killed one terrorist. The incident was an instance of the practice known as targeted killing of terrorists.During the night, the IDF was forced to cancel a planned aerial strike on a suspected terrorist target in Gaza when hundreds of Arab residents gathered around the building. The IDF, as is customary, had given notice to the families living in the building of the impending strike, but instead of leaving the area, the residents notified their friends, who came to the site. The villagers chanted anti-American and Israeli slogans indicating they would rather die rather than surrender to Israel.

The targeted building was the home of Popular Resistance Committees commander Mohammad al-Baroud, who resides in Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza. The terrorists plan to make this a regular practice. We call upon all the fighters to reject evacuating their houses, said Abu Abir, a spokesman for the Popular Resistance Committees, quoted by Reuters, and we urge our people to rush into the threatened houses and make human shields. The General Security Service (Shabak) announced today that 1,004 Kassam rockets have been fired at the Sderot region in the course of this year. In 2005, the number of rockets was 306, and in the year before that, 159 rockets were fired at Sderot and environs.

NUCLEAR WEAPONS WILL BE USED.

ISAIAH 26:21
21 For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.(WW3,1/2 earths population die).

ISAIAH 13:6-13 KJV
6 Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
7 Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt:(FROM FRIGHT)
8 And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.
9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
10 For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.

ISAIAH 24:17-23 KJV
17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
18 And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.
19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.
20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.
22 And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.
23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.

2 TIMOTHY 3:1
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous (DANGEROUS) times shall come.

JOEL 2:20,30

30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.(NUCLEAR BOMB)
31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.

ZECHARIAH 14:12-13
12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.
13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from the LORD shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour.

EZEKIEL 20:47
47 And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.

ZEPHANIAH 1:18
18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD'S wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.

MALACHI 4:1
1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

REVELATION 8:7
7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.

REVELATION 9:18
18 By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.

LUKE 17:34-37
34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.
35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.(Christians have new bodies, this is the people against Jerusalem during the 7 yr treaty)(Christians bodies are not being eaten by the birds).

MATTHEW 24:37-51
37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

India Test-Fires Nuclear-Capable Missile
The Associated Press ,By ARCHANA MISHRA
November 19, 2006

India successfully test-fired a medium-range nuclear-capable missile on Sunday, days after its rival Pakistan launched a similar missile. The Prithvi missile was fired into the Bay of Bengal from the test range in Chandipur in the eastern state of Orissa, the official said on condition of anonymity as he is not allowed to reveal his identity under ministry rules.

The test comes three days after rival Pakistan carried out a similar test of its nuclear-capable Ghauri missile, also known as the Hatf 5.The competing missile tests came after the countries concluded a crucial round of peace talks in New Delhi aimed at resolving their differences, including the thorny issue of their territorial dispute over the Himalayan region of Kashmir.Peace talks often come under criticism from hard-liners in both India and Pakistan, which have fought three wars two of them over Kashmir since independence from Britain in 1947.

Sunday's test was routine and part of the country's air defense exercises, Press Trust of India news agency quoted an unnamed official as saying.India routinely test-fires missiles it is developing for military use, as does Pakistan. Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said Sunday that India had informed Pakistan ahead of time about the test, as is standard between the nuclear rivals. On Saturday, district authorities in Chandipur evacuated around 2,750 villagers living near the missile testing range to two large shelters about a mile away, PTI said.Hosted by: Topix.net Publisher Platform (beta)

Melbourne'S G20 meeting of the world's most important finance ministers has concluded by calling for free markets in oil and other forms of energy starting a campaign some hope will lead one day to the break-up of the OPEC oil producers cartel.Ministers, central bank governors and officials have flown out of Melbourne after a final day that was free from the street fighting of Saturday.Treasurer
Peter Costello, who chaired the meeting, declared it extremely successful. He highlighted its endorsement of a broad statement of support for well-functioning markets as the best way of giving countries future access to energy sources and new technologies needed to tackle climate change. The finance ministers and bank governors, including US Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke and his counterparts from Europe, Japan, China and India, also gave each other a warning to tighten economic policies, to end the days of easy money and big deficits.

We need to take advantage of the present strength in the global economy to get policy settings right, they declared. In comments directed primarily at the US, Europe and Japan, they warned of the potential for inflation, urged further normalisation of interest rates, and called on governments to improve their budget balances now so they could respond to any future slump in growth. We are determined to implement these policies, they warned.Outside the meeting, police arrested seven protesters after the organised violence of Saturday's demonstrations, which left 10 police injured and considerable damage. Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon has created a taskforce to track down and arrest those responsible.Mr Costello denounced them as a small group of antisocial people .criminals who want to smash property and injure people. Prime Minister John Howard branded them a mob of troublemakers.

The G20 meeting did not meet all the hopes of its organisers, but the Australians were happy that it went smoothly, was not disrupted by protests and reached some consensus on issues Australia had put on the agenda, notably energy security. But Make Poverty History campaign leaders, including the Treasurer's brother Tim Costello, slammed the meeting for not giving world poverty higher priority. The ministers reiterated their commitment to reform the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, but rejected Australia's push to complete it next year.Development aid was discussed only briefly, and climate change only in the context of promoting free markets as the way to energy security. On energy, the communique called for well-functioning markets characterised by clear price signals, open trade and investment, market transparency, good governance and effective competition. This would support investment in new supply, bring forth efficiencies and new technologies, encourage the use of alternate and renewable energy sources, and allow knowledge and resources to flow across borders. Mr Costello, who opposes the OPEC oil cartel, said delegates told the meeting that free markets without cartel activity would be better for investment, energy security and prices.

OPEC, the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, comprises 13 of the world's biggest oil exporters.Critics have accused it of deliberately forcing up world oil prices.Canadian Finance Minister James Flaherty said seven of the world's 10 biggest oil producers were state-owned. Since oil prices began rising, they had lifted production at only a third the rate of private oil firms.Tim Costello, head of World Vision, and Oxfam Australia chief Andrew Hewett, co-chairmen of Make Poverty History, said delegates and the Australian Government had missed an opportunity to increase aid and deliver new policies to help wipe out poverty. With DEWI COOKE

Flash floods leave trail of death in dry Afghanistan
Herat, Afghanistan ,17 November 2006 02:41

Flash floods caused by heavy rains have killed nearly 50 people in western Afghanistan, with 60 more missing, the Afghan Health Ministry said on Friday.Forty-seven bodies had been recovered after floods hit the western province of Badghis on Thursday, ministry official Ahmad Shah Shokohmand said, citing information provided by provincial health authorities. The bodies were being kept in a mosque in Balamurghab, a town about 30km from the border with Turkmenistan, Shokohmand said. The governor of Badghis, Mohammad Nasim Tokhi, had said earlier that at least 13 people, including children, had drowned while nearly 100 more were missing. The floods washed away villages along the Murghab River, he said, warning that thousands of people were still in danger. It was a huge flood. We have 13 bodies recovered and dozens, nearly 100, are missing, he said, citing information about the missing from their families.

The Nato-led International Security Assistance Force said it was aware of the serious situation and was working with the government to send disaster relief, including eight tonnes of medical supplies, to the area.Afghanistan, especially the west and south, has been in the grip of drought but heavy rains started falling in several areas in the past week. Badghis has been especially hard hit by a lack of rain with reports that hundreds of families had left their land. The British-based charity Christian Aid said in September that it had found that most water sources in Badghis and adjoining Herat and Ghor provinces had dried up. In the south of the country, meanwhile, the bodies of two Afghans who drowned in the province of Zabul on Thursday were recovered on Friday, provincial police said. Their vehicle was hit by a flood while passing a flood plain. Two of the four passengers in the vehicle were killed, a police spokesperson said.He said the four were with a foreign-based security organisation but this could not be confirmed.

The United Nations World Food Programme renewed calls on Friday for urgent funds to buy food for millions of Afghans facing shortages this winter, some of whom had been affected by drought.

Our stocks are empty, a spokesperson for the UN programme, Ebadullah Ebadi, said. The world body needs $30-million for its winter food delivery to 3,5-million Afghans who rely on its help, he said. Another three million who are not covered by the WFP are also severely and chronically affected by food shortages, Ebadi said.In addition to this, 1,9[-million people] have been affected by drought, he said. Water warning leaves Vancouver high and dry
Fri Nov 17, 2006 3:06pm ET,

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Reuters) - More than two million residents on Canada's Pacific coast puzzled on Friday over a warning they might normally associate with the Third World: don't drink the water.Health officials issued a boil-water advisory for the Vancouver-area after a storm stirred up silt in the region's reservoirs and increased the risk of bacteria-borne disease. No illnesses have been reported and officials said no bacteria had actually been found but residents were told not to use water for drinking, brushing teeth or washing fruit and vegetables unless it had been boiled first. The advisory issued on Thursday quickly emptied store shelves of bottled water and forced restaurants and coffee shops in Canada's third largest city to turn away customers.

Don't bother, they don't have any coffee, said Sara, a panhandler outside a downtown Tim Hortons Inc. restaurant, as she directed confused commuters to the few places where they could get their morning caffeine fix. This is all really stupid, she added.Across the street in a normally busy Starbucks Corp. shop, the staff stood around with nothing to do.The boil-water advisory was issued after heavy rains on Wednesday caused mudslides in the mountains that surround Vancouver, which serve as its source of water supply, dumping silt into reservoirs already churned up by winds gusting at more than 100 km/h (62 mph).

Apec summit to push trade talks

President Bush is likely to hold talks with other leaders on North Korea. Asia-Pacific leaders are to pledge to tackle a deadlock in global trade talks at a key regional summit in Vietnam. In a draft statement circulated before the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (Apec) forum, the leaders say they will take the lead by making concessions. World Trade Organization (WTO) talks collapsed in July after countries failed to reach agreement on subsidies. President Bush has been holding talks with regional leaders to boost support for sanctions against North Korea. Over a bilateral breakfast meeting, he urged South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun to implement the sanctions and also support the US-led Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI), a voluntary programme designed to prevent the trafficking of material for weapons of mass destruction.

Mr Roh said he supported the principles of the PSI but left the level of Seoul's compliance unclear, saying he would not take part in the full scope of the initiative. In a lunchtime meeting between Mr Bush and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the two leaders agreed to pursue a ballistic missile defence programme against the threat from North Korea. Mr Bush will see Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday.

Ambitious agreement

Mr Bush may also use the summit to try to gather support for a free trade zone between the organisation's 21 members. Correspondents say the proposal is seen as an insurance policy in case efforts to revive world trade talks fail. The global WTO talks were meant to boost free trade for the benefit of developing countries. But an inability by the US and Europe to agree over how to reduce agricultural subsidies caused the talks to stall in the so-called Doha round. According to the draft statement, the 21 Apec leaders will say: We are ready to break the current deadlock each of us is committed to move beyond our current positions in key areas of the Doha round. This will mean opening up agriculture markets and making deeper reductions in trade-distorting farm support by major players, it says. The leaders will pledge to remain personally involved in pushing negotiations forward and trying to secure a breakthrough. Apec's trade and foreign ministers agreed to press their leaders to issue a statement on trade in the course of the two-day conference. Only an ambitious Doha agreement with real market access can achieve the economic growth and development goals that this world has set, Mr Bush said in Singapore before heading to Hanoi.

Hostile regimes

The forum in the Vietnamese capital is also expected to focus on economic security threats. Hanoi gets set for big day China challenges US at forum Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono told business leaders on Friday that economic security must be on every country's agenda. This would ensure they could work together against such threats as terrorism, flu pandemics and natural disasters, he said. Speaking after his arrival on Friday, Mr Bush said he felt amazed to be in Vietnam given the two countries difficult history.Following talks with Australian Prime Minister John Howard, Mr Bush said he would consult Australia over any repositioning of troops in Iraq. The two leaders also discussed climate change. Mr Howard had promised to seek support for alternatives to the Kyoto Protocol. Meanwhile New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark urged Apec leaders to include climate change on their agenda, warning of dire consequences if action was delayed.

Bush: Asia, U.S. must trade and fight terror together
POSTED: 3:55 p.m. EST, November 18, 2006

(CNN) -- President Bush stressed on Saturday the shared advantages of U.S.-Asia cooperation in trade and in fighting militant Islamic terrorism and a nuclear North Korea.Asia is important to America because prosperity in our country depends on trade with Asia's growing economies, he said in his weekly radio address. The U.S. president is in Hanoi, Vietnam, attending the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum.Today, America's trade across the Pacific is greater than our trade across the Atlantic, and we need to continue opening up markets in this part of the world to American goods and services. The issue of global free trade has been a contentious one in the United States, with critics saying Americans lose jobs because they are unable to compete with cheaper labor and business costs overseas.

Bush apparently addressed that criticism and reiterated his commitment to free trade. As long as the playing field is level, America's farmers, small businesses, and workers can compete with anyone, so America will continue to pursue free and fair trade at every level with individual countries across whole regions and through the World Trade Organization, he said.Continuing his theme of challenges that the United States and Asia have in common and the necessity of joining forces to meet them, Bush cited terror attacks in Asia such as the 2005 attack in Bali, Indonesia, in which 19 people died and the 2004 attack on a ferry in Manila Bay that killed 100.Asia is important to America because we face common threats to our security. The people of this region understand the terrorist threat because they have been targets of terrorist violence, he said, adding the terrorists stated goal is a radical Islamic empire stretching from Europe to Southeast Asia.

Referring to a threat very close to home for Asians, Bush said that it was urgent that North Korea's nuclear weapons program be stopped. At the APEC meeting, Bush had endorsed a statement all 21 Pacific Rim members plan to issue to express their worries about North Korea's first nuclear test on October 9 and its missile launches in July. Our nations are speaking with one voice: North Korea must abandon its nuclear weapons programs, and we will not tolerate North Korea's proliferation of nuclear technology to hostile regimes and terrorist networks. We will also continue working with Japan, China, South Korea, and Russia through the six-party talks, he said.

Province warned of highly infectious pig diseases
Sat Nov 18 2006,By Ian Hitchen

BRANDON Manitoba isn't ready for a pair of highly infectious viruses that could infect pigs and cripple the province's $3-million-a-day hog industry, said a top animal health official at Manitoba Agriculture. Veterinarian Dr. Terry Whiting said Friday at a disaster management conference at the Keystone Centre that the province doesn't have the slaughter capacity to cope with pigs that would have nowhere to go if the United States shuts its border. We're not quite (ready) yet, we're working on it. Outbreaks of foreign animal disease are rare here, Whiting said, occurring about once every 50 years. There was an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Saskatchewan in 1952, the BSE crisis in 2003, and avian flu in B.C.'s Fraser Valley in 2004.

The economic costs of outbreaks can be huge, with the BSE crisis bringing an estimated $7 billion loss. Whiting said Manitoba's pork industry will be hit with a similar crisis if there's a foot-and-mouth disease or swine fever outbreak.

Manitoba is Canada's largest pig-producing and pig-exporting province, exporting six million live pigs last year. That included two to three million young pigs, many bound for the U. S. However, Europe, the United States and Mexico won't purchase live animals or meat products if Manitoba has a foot-and-mouth disease or swine fever outbreak.

If the American border is shut, it will block about 15,000 small pigs per day shipped from Manitoba to heated barns in the U. S. where they're raised. The province doesn't have the capacity to slaughter the animals that would build up on farms, Whiting said. There's a lack of private insurance and no national livestock program to support farmers during a crisis and there needs to be a national disaster relief program to address foreign animal disease, he added. - Brandon Sun

Europe Intolera
nt

THE Dutch have joined the growing and totally paranoid drive in Europe against all things Islamic. The Netherlands, once hailed as the most tolerant and liberal country in the continent, has become the first European state to impose a total ban on burqa or hijab and veil used by the millions of Muslim women in Europe and around the world. The ban, coming as it does five days ahead of a general election in the country, leaves one in no doubt that the Dutch politicians are playing to the gallery hoping to win their hardline constituency. The minister of immigration, Rita Verdonk, has justified the move on public safety and security grounds. This concern for public safety and security would have you think the terrorists are widely using the Islamic burqa or veil to target the Netherlands. However, according to the Dutch Muslim community, the oldest and one of the most active in Europe, there are only 50 women in the Arab-Muslim community who use burqa or veil to cover their face.

So the explanation that the ban on burqa is in the interest of ‘public safety and security is nothing but bunkum. In fact, by resorting to such shortsighted shenanigans, countries like the Netherlands are only further alienating their religious and cultural minorities.

More to the point, moves like these coupled, with the ever widening war on terror, are driving young and unhappy Muslims into the welcoming arms of extremist groups such as Al Qaeda. Last week, Britain reported that its intelligence agencies had neutralised 30 terror plots in last one year alone. But why should it be surprising when you have once liberal and multicultural societies such as Britain and France are doing everything to isolate and drive away their large Muslim minorities? While Britain is punishing its Muslim women for choosing the veil, France has imposed a total ban on headscarf or hijab in its schools.

All this of course is done in the name of Europe’s hallowed traditions of secularism and liberalism. While nudity and all kinds of sexual perversions are hailed as freedom across the West, a lone woman in hijab or veil minding her own business is like a rag to a bull. If this is not hypocrisy, what is? If Europe is keen to fully integrate its religious minorities making them a healthy and contributing part of its society, it would do well to accept them with all their religious and cultural distinctions and diversity. There is no other model of integration.

AL chief says ready to cooperate with Europe on new Mideast peace initiative www.chinaview.cn 2006-11-19 04:41:03

CAIRO, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Arab League (AL) Secretary General Amr Moussa Saturday said that the AL is ready to cooperate with European nations on a new initiative on holding a Mideast peace conference to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Egypt's official news agency MENA reported.Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero announced earlier on Thursday a French-Spanish-Italian initiative which calls for an international peace conference, an immediate cessation of violence and an exchange of prisoners between Israeli and Palestinian sides. Moussa said in a press statement that the Spanish-French-Italian initiative, which is aiming to stop further deterioration in the Mideast, is gaining a wide-range European support. He disclosed that a European meeting will be held next week to crystallize the European proposal. The AL chief also expressed his organization's readiness to cooperate with the European nations on the initiative and all other proposals aiming to establish a genuine Mideast peace process.

He also hailed a Kuwaiti initiative to offer 30 million U.S. dollars in aid to the Palestinians, saying that other Arab countries would offer more funds to the Palestinians soon. Moussa said the pan-Arab body is determined to offer financial support to the Palestinians and reject the policy of starving the Palestinians. As Hamas rejects three international conditions of recognizing Israel, renouncing violence and honoring previous agreements signed with Israel, the Hamas-led Palestinian government has faced political and economic sanctions since it took office in March. The conditions were set by the Quarter Committee comprising Russia, the United States, the European Union and the United Nations -- which has been a major mediator in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Iran leader's U.N. finale reveals apocalyptic view
Ahmadinejad evokes return of messianic Islamic madhi
Posted: September 21, 2006,WorldNetDaily.com

WASHINGTON While most of the reporting and analysis of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's speech at the U.N. focused on what he had to say about the West and specifically the U.S., his chilling closing remarks were lost on most listeners
and apparently all reporters.

The last two paragraphs of his remarks revealed his steadfast and driving conviction, as previously reported in WND ,that a messianic figure, known as the Mahdi to Muslims, is poised to reveal himself after an apocalyptic holocaust on Earth that leaves most of the world's population dead. I emphatically declare that today's world, more than ever before, longs for just and righteous people with love for all humanity; and above all longs for the perfect righteous human being and the real savior who has been promised to all peoples and who will establish justice, peace and brotherhood on the planet, Ahmadinejad said. Oh, Almighty God, all men and women are your creatures and you have ordained their guidance and salvation. Bestow upon humanity that thirsts for justice, the perfect human being promised to all by you, and make us among his followers and among those who strive for his return and his cause.

With Iran on the verge of producing nuclear weapons and already in possession of sophisticated medium-range missiles, mystical pre-occupation with the coming of a Shiite Islamic messiah is of particular concern because of Iran's potential for triggering the kind of global conflagration Ahmadinejad envisions will set the stage for the end of the world. Ahmadinejad is on record as stating he believes he is to have a personal role in ushering in the age of the Mahdi.

In a Nov. 16, 2005, speech in Tehran, he said he sees his main mission in life as to pave the path for the glorious reappearance of Imam Mahdi, may Allah hasten his reappearance.According to Shiites, the 12th imam disappeared as a child in the year 941. When he returns, they believe, he will reign on earth for seven years, before bringing about a final judgment and the end of the world. Ahmadinejad is urging Iranians to prepare for the coming of the Mahdi by turning the country into a mighty and advanced Islamic society and by avoiding the corruption and excesses of the West.

All Iran is buzzing about the Mahdi, the 12th imam and the role Iran and Ahmadinejad are playing in his anticipated return. There's a new messiah hotline. There are news agencies especially devoted to the latest developments. People are anxious to know when and how will he rise; what they must do to receive this worldwide salvation, says Ali Lari, a cleric at the Bright Future Institute in Iran's religious center of Qom. The timing is not clear, but the conditions are more specific, he adds. There is a saying: When the students are ready, the teacher will come. Ahmadinejad and others in Iran are deadly serious about the imminent return of the 12th imam, who will prompt a global battle between good and evil (with striking parallels to biblical accounts of Armageddon). Some interpretations of the events that precede his coming include a war that wipes out most of the world's population. In Iran, an institute set up in 2004 for the study and dissemination of information about the Mahdi had a staff of 160 and influence in the schools and children's magazines earlier this year. Theologians there say end-times beliefs appeal to one-fifth of the population. And the Jamkaran mosque east of Qom, 60 miles south of Tehran, is where the link between devotees and the Mahdi is closest.

As of last year, Ahmadinejad's cabinet had given $17 million to Jamkaran. Shiite writings describe events surrounding the return of the Mahdi in apocalyptic terms. In one scenario, the forces of evil would come from Syria and Iraq and clash with forces of good from Iran. The battle would commence at Kufa the Iraqi town near the holy city of Najaf. Even more controversial is Ahmadinejad's repeated invocation of Imam Mahdi, known as the Savior of Times.According to Shiite tradition, Imam Mahdi will appear on Judgment Day to herald a truly just government. Ahmadinejad made reference to the Mahdi in his first speech to the U.N., too. He called on the mighty Lord to hasten the emergence of the promised one, the one who will fill this world with justice and peace.

Who stands in the Mahdi's way?

A top priority of Ahmadinejad is to challenge America, which is trying to impose itself as the final salvation of the human being, and insert its unjust state [in the region], says Hamidreza Taraghi, head of the conservative Islamic Coalition Society. Taraghi says the U.S. is trying to place itself as the new Mahdi. This may mean no peace with Iran, he adds, unless America changes its hegemonic ... thinking, doesn't use nuclear weapons, [or] impose its will on other nations. After Ahmadinejad last spoke to the United Nations, in September 2005, he told Ayatollah Javadi-Amoli in Tehran, in a videotaped discussion, about a strange, paranormal experience he had while speaking. He recounted how he found himself bathed in light throughout the speech. But this wasn't the light directed at the podium by the U.N. and television cameras. It was, he said, a light from heaven. According to a transcript of his comments, obtained by WND last year, Ahmadinejad wasn't the only one who noticed the unearthly light. One of his aides brought it to his attention.

The Iranian president recalled being told about it by one of his delegation: When you began with the words 'in the name of Allah, I saw a light coming, surrounding you and protecting you to the end. Ahmadinejad agreed that he sensed the same thing. On the last day when I was speaking, one of our group told me that when I started to say Bismillah Muhammad, he saw a green light come from around me, and I was placed inside this aura, he says. I felt it myself. I felt that the atmosphere suddenly changed, and for those 27 or 28 minutes, all the leaders of the world did not blink. When I say they didn't move an eyelid, I'm not exaggerating. They were looking as if a hand was holding them there, and had just opened their eyes Alhamdulillah!

Small earthquake hits Salt Lake Valley Fri Nov 17, 6:01 AM ET

SALT LAKE CITY - A small earthquake rattled homes in the northwestern Salt Lake Valley, but no damage or injuries were immediately reported.

The epicenter of the magnitude 2.6 quake, which occurred at 11:22 p.m. Thursday, was 9 miles west of Salt Lake City, according to the University of Utah. The earthquake was not very big, but because of the proximity to the populated area, many people felt it,university seismologist Relu Burlacu said.Burlacu said some residents who called the school said they felt their houses shake but didn't report any objects falling from walls. The Salt Lake County Sheriff's office did not have any reports of damage. The University of Utah said five earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater have occurred in the area since 1962. The strongest was a 5.2 quake on Sept. 5, 1962.

Heavy rains flood parts of East Africa Fri Nov 17, 7:12 PM ET

GENEVA - Tens of thousands of people fled their homes and many others were affected by floods in Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia resulting from heavy rains in East Africa, U.N. officials said Friday.

Houses have been washed away, and farmland has been flooded, said Elizabeth Byrs, spokeswoman for the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, or OCHA.The flooding has seriously disrupted aid programs feeding children still malnourished after the 2005-06 drought, said Michael Bociurkiw of the U.N.'s Children Fund. The crisis has significantly worsened in the last week, Bociurkiw said. Thousands of poor farming families now find themselves sleeping outside in the cold, exposed to malaria and other diseases.

The long drought left the region's soil so dried out that it was unable to absorb the rains when they arrived, and the wet season has been unusually long, making the problem worse, Byrs said. According to experts, Somalia could experience the worst floods in 20 to 50 years, she said.

Some 50,000 people were left homeless by floods that completely engulfed the central Somali town of Belet Weyne, capital of the Hiran region, and another 15,000 people there were cut off, OCHA said in a statement. In southeastern Kenya, a dam in the Tana River District was near breaking point, threatening to flood the surrounding inhabited area, Byrs said.A hippo that went berserk after finding itself in the western Kenyan town of Busia because of the floods killed six people, she told The Associated Press.

Aid workers have been handing out food, shelter materials and tens of thousands of mosquito nets in flood-affected areas, she said. But U.N. officials said it was difficult to reach some affected areas because bridges and roads had been washed away.According the U.N. refugee agency, more than 78,000 refugees have lost their dwellings in eastern Kenya's Dadaab region, with three camps being cut off by the floods. This week's floods washed away much of the road leading to Dadaab from the provincial capital at Garissa, completely isolating the massive camps housing mainly Somali refugees, said Ron Redmond of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.

Emergency supplies were to be airlifted from Nairobi to the region on Sunday, he said.

Red Cross meet seeks to reduce Asia's disaster toll Fri Nov 17, 7:44 PM ET

SINGAPORE (AFP) - Tsunamis, typhoons, landslides, earthquakes. Asia is the world's most disaster-prone region and from Monday, Red Cross and Red Crescent societies will gather here to try to reduce the death toll.

The four-day meeting in Singapore. will examine ways to cut down on the number of deaths and injuries from disasters and disease in Asia Pacific and the Middle East, while harnessing the power of communities to become more resilient and better prepared for the next time disaster strikes, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies said in a statement. The meeting of the organization's societies from the region and the Middle East will also set the Red Cross-Red Crescent humanitarian agenda for the next four years, it said.

Winston Choo, chairman of the Singapore Red Cross, said the gathering allows societies in the region to learn from experiences in responding to disasters and put forward a regional strategy to protect vulnerable citizens and improve their lives. This year alone, 15 Asian nations faced severe flooding, landslides and typhoons, Choo said.Among the topics under discussion will be the humanitarian repercussions of this year's war between Israel and the Hezbollah Shiite militia in Lebanon, stopping the spread of infectious diseases, and assistance for vulnerable people in North Korea, the Federation statement said.Since 1995, Asia has consistently ranked as the continent most frequently hit by natural catastrophes, accounting for 60 percent of the world's disasters and 78 percent of global disaster-related deaths, it said.

In December 2004, more than 220,000 people died when a tsunami struck Indonesia and other nations around the Indian Ocean, in one of the deadliest natural disasters ever.Another 74,000 people died and 3.5 million were left homeless from a massive South Asian earthquake in October 2005.Early this year, an estimated 1,400 people were feared dead when a landslide unleashed a sea of mud that buried a farming village on the Philippines island of Leyte. In June, more than 5,800 people died when an earthquake hit the area around Yogyakarta in Indonesia. Hundreds more died the following month during a tsunami that struck the southern coast of Java island.

Snow Falling In Queensland, Australia
4:27 pm, 16 Nov 2006

Snow is reported to be falling in South East Queensland, as a chilly blast continues in Eastern Australia.Snow has also fallen across many areas of New South Wales, Victoria, and Canberra. The Australian bureau of meteorology says the last time snow or sleet was reported in Queensland's Granite Belt area this late in the year was in early October, 1941.Senior forecaster Craig Mitchell says temperatures have dropped enough to form light sleet or snow.© NewsRoom 2006

Fire and ice hit Queensland
November 16, 2006 - 3:12PM

Queenslanders battled weather extremes on Thursday as snow fell in the south, thermometers hit 40 degrees in the far north, and dry winds fanned a bushfire on the Sunshine Coast.Snow and sleet fell on the Granite Belt district near the Queensland-NSW border in what forecasters called a once in 50 years phenomenon.Ballandean resident Leeanne Puglisi-Gangemi said the snow had been the talk of the town as those who saw the beautiful white on green and lush vineyards tried to convince others of the unusual weather. The whole town has been talking about it and everybody's ringing, Did you see snow? Did you see snow?

And then you get the doubters: Oh, that wasn't snow, that was just sleet', she said. But no, no, no, we know the difference in Stanthorpe.Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Jeff Callaghan said the very unusual weather had been caused by a cold front which had travelled up from Victoria. It caused violent hail and thunderstorms in Queensland's south-east and snow in Victoria and Tasmania on Wednesday. The last time snow or sleet was reported in the Granite Belt area a region in the Great Dividing Ranges between Dalveen and Wallangarra this late in the year was in 1941.

The storms formed ahead of the cold front and now the cold front's coming through with very, very cold air, Mr Callaghan said.It happens, but not very frequently. The atmosphere keeps on repeating itself for extreme events every 50 or 100 years or so.Mr Callaghan said residents probably couldn't expect a repeat for another 50 years. While Applethorpe, in the Granite Belt, recorded the coldest temperature statewide at just 11 degrees Celsius, Coen, Kowanyama and Musgrave, all in the far north, recorded the warmest at 40 degrees.Meanwhile, a bushfire fanned by strong, dry winds raged at Caloundra, on the Sunshine Coast, forcing the evacuation of a primary school and a retirement home.Up to 50 firefighters were continuing to fight the blaze. On Wednesday, homes were damaged and thousands of people lost power as short but spectacular storms dumped heavy rain and hail across south-east Queensland.2006 AAP

This Week with Rabbi Eckstein
November 16, 2006

Dear Friend of The Fellowship,

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has been in the U.S. all week, discussing the tenuous situation in the Middle East with President Bush and key congressional leaders.

Turn on the news or open a newspaper most any day and you know that there is much for them to talk about. The situation in the region is extremely volatile. Iran is defiantly continuing its pursuit of nuclear weapons, its threats to wipe Israel off the map, and its support of terrorism. Israel is still reeling from this summer's devastating war launched by Hezbollah, and is facing the grim possibility that the terrorist group is taking advantage of the current ceasefire to rearm and regroup for an even stronger assault. Fighting between rival Hamas and Fatah factions has brought Gaza to the brink of civil war, even as terrorist rockets fired from the area continue to rain down on Israel's neighborhoods.

In the public debate about solutions for this volatile situation, some pundits have predicted that this meeting between President Bush and Prime Minister Olmert will reveal cracks in the U.S.-Israel alliance. Their argument goes like this: Weakened by Republican losses in last week's mid-term elections, President Bush will have no choice but to plan to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq. To make this change smoothly, the U.S. will have to soften its stance toward hostile nations like Iran and Syria, and distance itself from its traditional ally, Israel.Personally, I firmly believe they are mistaken. The alliance between the U.S. and Israel will not be shaken, because it is based on far more than just common political interests. It grows out of a natural affinity of shared values and a common belief in liberty, democracy, and the rule of law. I am confident that both leaders recognize the threat posed by Iran and will not compromise with the fiery, hateful rhetoric of its leader. Bush and Olmert understand each other and the threats facing their nations. No wonder the Prime Minister said of President Bush during an interview at the beginning of his trip, If there is one person I can trust, it's him.

Please join with me and continually pray that God will give these leaders wisdom and guidance to face the difficult days ahead. They need great presence of mind to deal with these critical issues. Their decisions will affect Israel, the Middle East, and free countries around the world. Yet with hard work, and God's grace, our two nations will be able to stand for righteousness in the face of evil.

With prayers for shalom, peace,

Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein

Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps Commander Yahya Safavi on Iranian TV: The Americans Have Many Weaknesses; We Have Planned Our Strategy Precisely on the Basis of Their Strengths and Weaknesses, U.S. Forces in Iraq Are Very Cowardly; We Never Reveal All Our Cards to the Enemy

In an interview on Iran's Channel 2, that aired on November 12, 2006, Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps commander Gen. Yahya Rahim Safavi stated that Iran had based its strategy on the U.S. military's strengths and weaknesses. He discussed the capabilities of the Shahab missiles and the weaknesses and the cowardice of the U.S. military, claiming among other things that the Iranian military could disrupt enemy satellite systems

The following are excerpts from the interview
TO VIEW THIS CLIP: http://www.memritv.org/search.asp?ACT=S9&P1=1318

We Have Planned Our Strategy Precisely on the Basis of Their [The U.S. Military's] Strengths and Weaknesses General Yahya Rahim Safavi: The Shahab 3 missiles, which were fired with a cluster warhead, deviated a few meters [from the target]. Considering the extent of the explosion, a few meters is .Interviewer: Is this within the norms of missile operations?

General Yahya Rahim Safavi: Naturally, a 20-30 meter [deviation] is acceptable, because the force of the explosion and the radius of the shockwaves exceed 20 or 30 meters. The Americans and the countries that have satellite systems especially those that monitor Iran's airspace or the atmosphere can see our missile launchings clearly not the radar systems, but the satellites of the various countries. They see both the launching and landing points. It is completely obvious to them that these were real maneuvers.

In fact, the maneuvers were carried out with combat weapons, and were not just for show. The Americans have many weaknesses. In fact, in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, they clearly displayed their strengths and weaknesses. We have planned our strategy precisely on the basis of their strengths and weaknesses.

We don't see any motivation among the American forces in Iraq. They are very cowardly. There are even scenes from Iraq in which they are seen crying. When their commanders encounter a problem, they burst into tears. We did not see such spectacles in the eight years of the Iran-Iraq war. I can therefore say that our advantage over the foreign forces is moral and human. Of course, in accordance with the technology that we have or that we are able to obtain from other countries, we have equipped our armed forces with the most advanced anti-aircraft, anti-helicopter, anti-tank, and anti-ship weapons. The equipment used in these war games was only part of what we have. We never reveal all our cards to the enemy. We used only a small sample of our personnel and equipment.

We Can Disrupt the Satellite Systems of the Enemy.Interviewer: General, the viewers asked whether the IRGC has the ability to conduct active and defensive electronic warfare.

General Yahya Rahim Safavi: I'm not at liberty to talk about some things, because they are highly classified. But I can say that our communications systems are very advanced. We can communicate with all our units. Even at the brigade level, we maintain five levels of contact and communication with our units. We make full use of satellite systems, and can handle the enemy's satellite systems. We can disrupt the satellite systems of the enemy. We can disrupt the communication networks of the enemy.

Interviewer: General, the viewers asked many questions about the destructive power of the Shahab 2 and 3 missiles. If it is not secret, please tell us.

General Yahya Rahim Safavi: The Shahab 3 missile has a cluster warhead, and consequently, its destructive power exceeds several kilometers, because the warhead spreads into bomblets.

[It can be used] against large bases, large concentrations of people, aircraft carriers... even against aircraft carriers, because it explodes from above, so it can completely destroy an aircraft carrier with its planes. As for the Shahab 2 missile its warhead carries approximately 900 kilograms of explosives. It has about 20 tons of fuel. This missile uses 12-20 tons of fuel, and its warhead carries 900 kilograms of explosives, so it has very great explosive power.

Interviewer: Does the Shahab series include a Shahab 4, Shahab 5, and so on?

General Yahya Rahim Safavi: I would rather not answer that. If the Zionist Regime or the Americans Make Problems For Us and Organize Attacks Against Us. As I pointed out, starting a war with another country or attacking it is currently not part of our plans or strategy. But if the Zionist regime or the Americans make problems for us and organize attacks against us... The Zionist regime is about 1,300 kilometers from our centers. If we have a missile range of 2,000 kilometers, it is only natural that a distance of 1,300 kilometers is within this range. I'd like to say something else. If the Zionist regime was defeated by a group of Hizbullah in Lebanon... After all, Hizbullah is a small group in Lebanon, which defeated the Israeli army in this 33-day war.

How can Israel withstand a great nation that numbers 70 million, 90 percent of which are Shiites? As for the IRGC and the Basij we have 10 million Basij members and strong Revolutionary Guards. There is no comparison.

We Will Respond to Any Invading Power with a Force That They Cannot Even Imagine

Therefore, I do not believe that the Zionists would even dream of threatening us. If they do, they will face the greatest danger to their very existence. I say again: We are interested in peace and quiet in the Middle East. We have no policy of attacking [anyone], but we will respond to any invading power with a force that they cannot even imagine. Neither the Americans nor the Zionists know what complex, precise, and intelligence-based plans we have designed in order to defend our country and to deal with their possible attacks.

Coming soon: Great war to exterminate Israel
Source: Ynetnews,November 16, 2006

One day after Likud leader Binyamin Netanyahu warned that the Iranian threat facing Israel was similar to the 1938 looming Nazi danger to European Jewry, the Israeli media reported that an Iranian newspaper had called on Muslims around the world to get ready:A great war to destroy the State of Israel was on the way, an October 29 editorial in Kehyan had exulted.Translated by MEMRI, the paper said half of Israel had been taken care of by the Lebanese Hizb'allah last July. Now only half the path to [Israel's] destruction remains. The war would be waged by millions of Jihadists along Israel's extended border with Jordan, along Israel's southern border with Egypt, and on the Golan Heights, where Israel and Syria meet. That day is not far off.

REVELATION 13:11-18
11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
16 And he(FALSE POPE) causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:(CHIP IMPLANT)
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.(6-6-6) A NUMBER SYSTEM

REVELATION 17:1-18
1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:
2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.
10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.
12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.
14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.
17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.
18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

How big can the EU be?
17.11.2006 - 09:12 CET | By Peter Sain ley Berry

EUOBSERVER / COMMENT - How big should the European Union be? This question, childlike and beguiling, lies at the root of a whole series of issues with which Europe's leaders are now grappling. It is fundamental to concerns over enlargement; about how the EU takes decisions; to neighbourhood policy; to institutional reform; to future budgets. In short it informs, one way or another, the whole process of the future European construction and of European integration. It is also the one question that is being dodged.

Like an uncomfortable boil that no one wants to lance, it is being dodged by the member states in the European Council and by the European Commission. It is being dodged by the candidate and aspirant states and it is being dodged in the debate with the European public about the future of the Union. It is, of course, a very difficult question to answer and, moreover, one which has profound consequences. The easy and safe thing to do is to put off any discussion whatsoever. This the Commission prefers to do.

A perfect parliamentary answer

Are there final borders (to) Europe or will enlargement continue forever? was the opaque interrogatory it provided in its Questions and Answers on the Union's Enlargement Strategy on 8 November.

The three paragraph answer merely said that any state that thinks itself European may apply, but doesn't have to if it doesn't want to. True, but at the same time meaningless: a perfect Parliamentary Answer.Among the candidates it is easy to see why Macedonia, for instance, should argue that its small 2 million population would hardly be noticed among the other 470 million European citizens. Or Croatia should argue that a small amendment to the Treaty of Nice is all that need practically stand between it and accession. Surely there is enough space in the European lifeboat for one more state?

This argument is not easy to resist. Such arguments never are. But resist it we should until we have addressed the fundamental question How big should the EU be? For without answering it we cannot address the wider issue of institutional reform on which further enlargement now hangs. The European Union will meet its 50th anniversary in March next year with institutions designed originally for six states. At the time they provided the fledgling community with a unique model for democratic co-operation based on the rule of law. They have since been strikingly successful. Successive minor reforms enabled the institutions to adapt healthily to 15 states.

Strains of expansion

But we are now at 25 states and shortly 27. The further constitutional reforms deemed necessary to accommodate these states have not been ratified. The strains of expansion are starting to show.If member states can be represented by bricks in a wall, then the more bricks there are the more cement you need to hold them together. If the bricks are the widening of the Union, so the cement represents its deepening. If you simply add bricks without an accompanying measure of cement the whole edifice is at risk of collapse.

Adding more states within the existing structure simply dilutes the existing bonds and reduces the effectiveness of the Union even further. The candidate states need to appreciate this.Yet even if, and it remains a big if, the constitutional treaty is resurrected successfully under the German Presidency next spring and then subsequently ratified (an even bigger if) we shall still be left with the question of how to manage effectively a Union of 40 states.Mr Barroso seems to think that these institutional questions will be resolved shortly. I am confident that the elements are in place for a major breakthrough he told the European Parliament this week. I am not so sure. I suspect that without some resolution of the question of the future size of the EU, there will be no ratification of any constitutional treaty.

Addressing the big question

So what can be done in the meantime? We can begin to address the question of how big the Union should be and how it might be run.

And this debate neither need nor should be confined to the present member states. The march of history is such that it seems unlikely now that the Union will stop short of eventually embracing most states that could possibly be described as European.

Besides the Balkans that will include Turkey, the Ukraine and the Caucasus. President Mikhail Saakashvili who looks far too young to be the President of Georgia expounded his country's eventual EU entry aspirations to the European Parliament this week. But what sort of Union will this be? What sort of government must it have? This is the debate that we need to start. What is certain is that while writing constitutions is relatively easy, persuading a sceptical public to ratify them is somewhat harder. That is not going to happen quickly. Nor must it be allowed to happen by stealth. Institutional reform within the EU will proceed only at the pace the public will allow. And that will be slow.

So where does that leave Croatia, Macedonia, Turkey? These countries need a democratic framework to ensure their stability, a common regulatory structure within which their markets can develop, drivers for the reform of human rights. They need to be members of a community, of a union. This part of the analysis is surely correct and more than correct, pressing.Yet if the EU could recognise the prospect of an eventual membership of 40 or so states, that would immediately create a geographically proximate community, of 13 states, broadly of common economic standing, all working for the same goal of eventual EU entry.

Would this community not benefit from establishing common institutions through which to negotiate with the EU, and others, to drive internal reforms and to provide mutual stability? Such an Eastern European community, that might one day adhere to the existing EU as a bloc, could provide its members with most benefits that they now expect to derive from EU membership. This solution may not be what those countries want most, but it might be the most practical way forward in the short term, both for them and for us. The author is editor of EuropaWorld.

REVELATION 9:3-11
3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.
5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.
6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.
7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.
8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.
9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.
10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.
11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

NOW THIS MIGHT BE THE BEGGINING OF THESE VERSES,OR THESE MIGHT BE LITERAL LOCUSTS THAT HURT SINNERS. SINCE SATAN IS THE LEADER BEHIND THESE DEMONIC LOCUSTS, I THINK THEY WILL BE LITERAL, ONLY TIME WILL TELL HOW GOD FULFILLS THIS PROPHECY, THROUGH ISRAEL OR THROUGH HIS WORD.

Israel developing bionic arsenal Fri Nov 17, 8:30 AM ET

JERUSALEM (AFP) - Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has given the green light for Israel to set up a special office to develop a nanotechnology arsenal.

Yediot Aharonot said that Deputy Prime Minister Shimon Peres had been told to choose 15 top thinkers to focus on developing futuristic weaponry. The 15 would be selected from within the security establishment, the world of hi-tech and academia. If their projects succeed, they will provide Israel with a response to the various threats from Palestinian rockets, suicide bombers, to long-range missiles and non-convential weapons, the newspaper said Friday.Peres has recently hinted in public lectures at a small number of secret developments, Yediot added, such as pearls of wisdom tiny sensors that can be scattered on enemy territory.

A so-called intelligence wasp or mini drone that can squeeze into narrow alleys, jam communications, photograph intelligence targets and even kill militants, was another, the daily reported.A third project would be anti-suicide bomber sensors that can be installed in public places and apparently able to spot a bomber, based on scent, heat and weight.Israel, along with Britain and the United States, are considered leading countries in the field of nanotechnology research.Following Israel's war in Lebanon this summer, The Guardian newspaper said Peres advocated a new focus on technologies, including miniaturised arms or ... remote-control robots operating on the battlefield.Israel lost around 120 soldiers in its offensive in Lebanon and conflict with Hezbollah, drawing heavy domestic criticism against both its military and political leaders. At least 1,140 Lebanese civilians 30 percent of them children under 12 were killed along with 43 army and police troops in the month-long offensive that ended on August 14, Lebanon's High Relief Committee said.

Tens of Thousands Ascend to Hevron to Relive Biblical History
By Alex Traiman(INN)

Tens of Thousands of Jews will ascend to Hevron for the annual reading of Chayei Sarah, the Torah portion which records the Jewish patriarch Abraham’s purchase of the Cave of the Patriarchs. Each year tens of thousands arrive at the site where the Jewish patriarchs and matriarchs Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebecca, and Jacob and Leah are buried, for the annual reading to retell and relive Biblical history.According to the Torah, Abraham made the purchase in front of a large local community gathering, for an exorbitant price, to serve as the burial ground for his deceased wife Sarah and his Jewish descendants.

Genesis Chapter 23
And the life of Sarah was one hundred years and twenty years and seven years; [these were] the years of the life of Sarah. And Sarah died in Kiryat Arba, which is Hevron, in the land of Canaan, and Abraham came to eulogize Sarah and to bewail her. And Abraham arose from before his dead, and he spoke to the sons of Heth, saying, I am a stranger and an inhabitant with you. Give me burial property with you, so that I may bury my dead from before me. And the sons of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him, Listen to us, my lord; you are a prince of God in our midst; in the choicest of our graves bury your dead. None of us will withhold his grave from you to bury your dead.

And Abraham arose and prostrated himself to the people of the land, to the sons of Heth. And he spoke with them, saying, If it is your will that I bury my dead from before me, listen to me and entreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar. That he may give me the Machpelah (double) Cave, which belongs to him, which is at the end of his field; for a full price let him give it to me in your midst for burial property. Now Ephron was sitting in the midst of the sons of Heth, and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearing of the sons of Heth, of all those who had come into the gate of his city, saying, No, my lord, listen to me. I have given you the field, and the cave that is in it, I have given it to you. Before the eyes of the sons of my people, I have given it to you; bury your dead.

And Abraham prostrated himself before the people of the land. And he spoke to Ephron in the hearing of the people of the land, saying, But, if only you would listen to me. I am giving the money for the field; take [it] from me, and I will bury my dead there.

And Ephron replied to Abraham, saying to him, My lord, listen to me; a [piece of] land worth four hundred shekels of silver, what is it between me and you? Bury your dead. And Abraham listened to Ephron, and Abraham weighed out to Ephron the silver that he had named in the hearing of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, accepted by the merchant. And so the field of Ephron which was in Machpelah, facing Mamre, was established (as Abraham's possession). [This included] the field and the cave that was in it, and all the trees that were in the field, which were within its entire border around.[It was] to Abraham as a possession before the eyes of the sons of Heth, in the presence of all who had come within the gate of his city. And afterwards, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah, facing Mamre, which is Hevron, in the land of Canaan. And the field and the cave within it were established to Abraham as burial property, [purchased] from the sons of Heth.

The Jewish community of Hevron is relatively small with only 1,000 residents and students living in the city currently populated by 150,000 Arabs. However, at certain times throughout the year, as many as 100,000 Jews arrive in Hevron to visit the celebrated Jewish monument located in the city. We are expecting tens of thousands of Jews to arrive here in Hevron this Shabbat, just several weeks after the conclusion of Sukkot, in which over 100,000 Jews came to the city, according to Jewish community spokesman David Wilder. It shows the tremendous support the Jewish people have for the residents of Hevron, and reaffirms our commitment to live in this Biblical city, Wilder says.Yet with only permanent lodgings for 1,000 Jews, the yearly reading of Chayei Sarah (or the life of Sarah) stretches the limits of the small Jewish community’s hospitality, a trait for which the patriarch Abraham was renowned.

People sleep anywhere and everywhere, Wilder says. The weather is nice, and there will be lots of tents. Plus, literally anyplace there is a space to put a mattress or sleeping bag will be used. The annual Shabbat reading will feature many rabbis and lecturers addressing topics relating to the Torah and the Jewish people. In addition, this weekend is one of the few times during the year the large room memorializing Isaac in the Cave of the Patriarchs will be open to Jewish worshippers. Isaac’s room houses the tunnels which lead several stories down to the underground burial caves. The room is used throughout the year by Muslims as a mosque.

Yet the climax of the Shabbat will be the Torah reading itself, in the exact spot where Biblical history took place approximately 4,000 years ago. While Hevron is often in the news due to security or political concerns, the Hevron community does not expect any incidents at this peaceful annual gathering. The only challenge will be how to get tens of thousands of Jews home safelyfollowing Shabbat, Wilder says.Wilder contends that Hevron is always open throughout the year to every Jew in the world, Anyone that is still able to come for Shabbat is absolutely invited, and whoever cannot make it this year, should begin planning now to be in Hevron this time next year or sometime in between.

Separated by faith, clergy bond over Israel
Pastors, rabbis from Nashville tour Holy Land
By ANITA WADHWANI,Staff Writer

They disagree on a multitude of core beliefs, but not this one: the preservation of Israel.A group of Nashville rabbis and evangelical Christian pastors have somewhat different motivations for their budding alliance, which this week has taken them on an unusual joint tour of Christian and Jewish holy sites in Israel. For the Christian pastors, it's their view of Israel and the Jewish people as integral to God's design for Christians and in the fulfillment of Biblical prophecies. For the Jewish rabbis, it's the old Arabic proverb: The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Most Jews and rabbis disagree on virtually every social and political agenda with evangelical Christian churches, so it's not a group of like-minded clergy, said Rabbi Mark Schiftan, of The Temple in west Nashville, who organized the trip to Israel.Though we have huge differences in theology and how we perceive one another, the one thing we agree on albeit for very different reasons is this love for the state of Israel. The local alliance of a dozen clergy half of them rabbis, half evangelical Christian pastors mirrors growing support on the part of evangelical Christians for Israel and Jewish acceptance of their new allies. Such alliances have been solidifying for the past decade but have seen renewed growth since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

Earlier this week an opinion piece in the Jerusalem Post said the new answer to the future of Israel must be Christian love and support for the Jewish people and the state of Israel.National groups such as the Chicago-based International Fellowship for Christians and Jews and the Christians United for Israel in San Antonio, Texas, have raised millions of dollars for Israel and reached out to evangelical churches to rally support.I think 9/11 accelerated a pre-existing trend in both communities to see each other as allies, said David Brog, executive director of Christians United for Israel. Brog is Jewish.

As the nature of the threat has been more clear and more immediate, we see this trend accelerating. All of a sudden, the theological differences that may exist don't loom as large as they used to.In Nashville, the small group of clergy began meeting a year ago at the behest of Laurie Moore, a lay evangelical Christian who has organized pro-Israel rallies.

To be frankly honest, the rabbis were very apprehensive about having a meeting, Schiftan said. Some Christian faiths have long blamed Jews for killing Jesus, engendering anti-Semitism.But the rabbis who are part of the Nashville Board of Rabbis eventually agreed. At that first meeting, we were sitting in a room with them and one by one (the pastors) made an apology and, coupled with their statements of support of Israel, said they were horrified, embarrassed, ashamed by the things done to the Jewish people, the anti-Semitism that has been done in the name of their faith, Schiftan said. We were very moved.Since then, the group has met monthly to discuss a wide range of topics: gay rights, abortion, the afterlife, the coming of the Messiah subjects on which there was a wide range of views. On the topic of Israel, however, there was consensus.

Nashville pastor Doug Mann said his views on Israel were shaped by biblical prophecies. There are many promises yet to be fulfilled about the destiny of Israel, said Mann, pastor of the Belmont Church, a nondenominational, charismatic church.Schiftan said it was apparent that the Christian pastors had different reasons for their support of Israel than Jews, who have historical, emotional and
family ties to the nation. For much of the evangelical Christian world, a large part but not the only part of their understanding of biblical texts and of biblical prophecy has to do with creating a vehicle for Jews to gather in the land of Israel to herald the Messiah, Schiftan said. Many evangelicals believe the Second Coming is predicated on the existence of Israel. And while that is a noble goal for them, it is not one shared by members of the Jewish community. However, that being said, we're most grateful to that reason and many more for their support of the Jewish people's right to a Jewish homeland. But end-time prophecies are far from the only motivation for Christian evangelicals, Mann said.

I don't want to be a Bible thumper, but in Jeremiah, it basically says that we believers in the word are to declare to the nations that the God of Israel who scattered the Jewish people is the God that would re-gather them, Mann said. The fact that Jewish culture has been scattered worldwide, other cultures annihilated, yet they have been coming back to Israel in unprecedented numbers, is a fact that supports my faith. And there's the Book of Genesis, where it says:The Lord said to Abraham after Lot had parted from him, Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever. That covenant with Abraham giving Israel to the Jewish people is still a sacred covenant that Christians must honor, Moore said.Mann said that evangelical Christians have increasingly rejected replacement theology that teaches that the Christian church is the replacement for Israel in that covenant and that the many promises made to Abraham's descendants in the Bible are fulfilled in the Christian church, not Israel.

Moore and Mann say that despite their evangelical faith, there is no thought of converting Jews. Conversion is not on the table, Mann said. I view Jews differently than other non-Christians. They're God's chosen people. They don't like that sometimes; they say don't call attention that we're God's chosen people, but they are.I guess this is with very tepid watersthat we begin these steps towards one another, Schiftan said.

But the threat against Israel and the threat against the West is both significant and one and the same. And the reality for the Jewish world is that there are no stronger Christian supporters for the state of Israel than the evangelical church. The group returns from Israel on Tuesday.

REVELATION 9 COMES TO FULFILLMENT

REVELATION 9:1-11
1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.
2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.

Israel develops lethal robot hornet From correspondents in Jerusalem
November 17, 2006 06:47pm,Article from: Reuters

ISRAEL is using nanotechnology to try to create a robot no bigger than a hornet that would be able to chase, photograph and kill its targets, an Israeli newspaper reported today. The flying robot, nicknamed the bionic hornet, would be able to navigate its way down narrow alleyways to target otherwise unreachable enemies such as rocket launchers, the daily Yedioth Ahronoth said.It is one of several weapons being developed by scientists to combat militants, it said. Others include super gloves that would give the user the strength of a bionic man and miniature sensors to detect suicide bombers.

The research integrates nanotechnology into Israel's security department and will find creative solutions to problems the army has been unable to address, Deputy Prime Minister Shimon Peres told Yedioth Ahronoth. The war in Lebanon proved that we need smaller weaponry. It's illogical to send a plane worth $US100 million against a suicidal terrorist. So we are building futuristic weapons, Mr Peres said. The 34-day war in Lebanon ended with a UN-brokered ceasefire in mid-August. The war killed more than 1200 Lebanese, mostly civilians, and 157 Israelis, mostly soldiers.Prototypes for the new weapons are expected within three years, he said.
