Verdict reached in Tsarnaev trial; To be read shortly in court-Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev faces 30-count indictment-UPDATED 1:57 PM EDT Apr 08, 2015-WCVB ABC

BOSTON —A federal jury has reached a verdict in the trial of Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, two days after both prosecutors and defense lawyers said Tsarnaev must be held accountable for participating in the terror attack. The verdict is expected to be read in federal court at about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday. The verdict was reached about 12 hours after jurors began deliberating Tsarnaev's guilt in the April 15, 2013, bombing near the Boston Marathon finish line that killed three people and wounded more than 260.During closing arguments Monday, Tsarnaev's lawyers agreed with prosecutors that Tsarnaev conspired with his brother to bomb the marathon and planted one of two pressure-cooker bombs that exploded that day.But the defense argued it was his now-dead older brother, Tamerlan, who was the mastermind of the attack. It was Tamerlan who bought the bomb parts, built the bombs and planned the attack, said defense attorney Judy Clarke."If not for Tamerlan, it would not have happened," Clarke said.A prosecutor told the jury that Tsarnaev made a coldblooded decision aimed at punishing America for its wars in Muslim countries."This was a cold, calculated terrorist act. This was intentional. It was bloodthirsty. It was to make a point," Aloke Chakravarty said. "It was to tell America that 'We will not be terrorized by you anymore. We will terrorize you.'"Clarke argued that Tsarnaev fell under the influence of Tamerlan. Clarke repeatedly referred to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev -- then 19 -- as a "kid" and a "teenager."Prosecutors used their closing to remind the jury of the horror of that day, showing photographs and video of the carnage and chaos after the shrapnel-packed pressure-cooker bombs exploded. In one video, jurors could hear the agonizing screams of Krystle Campbell, a 29-year-old restaurant manager who bled to death on the sidewalk. Another woman and an 8-year-old boy also were killed.Taking aim at the argument that Tsarnaev was led astray by his older brother, Chakravarty repeatedly referred to the Tsarnaevs as "a team" and "partners" in the attack."That day, they felt they were soldiers. They were the mujahedeen, and they were bringing their battle to Boston," the prosecutor said.Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, died four days after the bombings after he was shot by police and run over by Dzhokhar during a getaway attempt. Dzhokhar was captured hours later hiding in a dry-docked boat.If Tsarnaev is convicted, the jury will then begin hearing evidence on whether he should get life in prison or a death sentence.

MAJOR NEWS about Bowe Bergdahl – A Huge Embarrassment for Obama!...Will Bengdahl be an historic embarrassment when Obama's history is recorded ? by CAPISCE Posted April 07, 2015)-SODAHEAD

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who was featured in a prisoner swap for five terrorists, is being charged with desertion for leaving his post. He went AWOL, and yet President Obama went along with the illegal, un-constitutional swap anyway. In a Monday’s appearance on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor,” Lt. Col. Tony Schaffer said that two military sources confirmed that Bergdahl’s attorney officially received a “charge sheet” listing the violations. If the charges stand, the case will advance to a court-martial. HUGE!-Mr. Shaffer, who now works for the London Center for Policy Research, said two separate military sources have confirmed to him that Sgt. Bergdahl’s attorney has been given a “charge sheet,” listing out the articles of the uniform military code that have been violated.“The army has come to its conclusion and Bowe Bergdahl will be charged with desertion,” Mr. Shaffer said.Sgt. Bergdahl left his unit in Afghanistan without permission in 2009 and was captured by the Taliban, and held prisoner by the group for five years. Following the much-criticized exchange, the Army conducted an investigation into his actions, which concluded three months ago. Mr. Shaffer also accused the Obama administration of trying to keep the detail of Sgt. Bergdahl’s charges hidden. This means that the President of the United States was willing to break the law to help an American hostage who left his post. Not to mention, there are dozens of reports that he was actively assisting the enemy find the locations of American troops to kill.Compare this to the shameful treatment of Marine Andrew Tahmooressi, who was left to rot in a filthy Mexican prison for more than 6 months, thanks to Obama’s inaction. Apparently for Obama, only those who go AWOL and hate America are worth saving at any cost. What should happen to Bowe Bergdahl? Please leave us a comment and tell us what you think.

US | Thu Mar 26, 2015 1:50am EDT-Ex-U.S. war prisoner Bergdahl charged with desertion, misbehavior

FORT BRAGG, N.C. | By Kelly Twedell-(Reuters) - U.S. Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, a former Taliban prisoner in Afghanistan, was formally charged on Wednesday with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy, and could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted of the most serious count, the Army said. Bergdahl's attorney, Eugene Fidell of Yale Law School, said the Army had scheduled an Article 32 investigation hearing on April 22 to determine whether there was sufficient evidence to proceed with a court-martial.The Army said the investigation, similar to a civilian grand jury proceeding, would take place at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.Bergdahl, 28, was released from Taliban custody last summer in a controversial prisoner swap that saw five Taliban prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, transferred to Qatar, where they were required to remain for a year.Bergdahl disappeared on June 30, 2009, from Combat Outpost Mest-Lalak in Paktika Province in eastern Afghanistan and was subsequently captured. He disappeared from the outpost early one morning after doing guard duty, leaving behind his gun, ammunition and body armor. An initial wave of euphoria over Bergdahl's release was followed by a backlash among U.S. lawmakers angry because they were not given 30 days' notice before the transfer of the Guantanamo prisoners, as required by law. Some of Bergdahl's former Army comrades also came forward and said they believed he deserted his post.Former Army Sergeant Evan Buetow, who served with Bergdahl, said on Wednesday that the former war prisoner had been treated fairly by the Army and needed "to answer for what he did.""He put all of our lives in danger," Buetow said. "Men from our company died, when I don't believe they would have if he wouldn't have left."

'IMPORTANT STEP'

Republican lawmakers also backed the Army's decision to move ahead with the charges. Senator John McCain, head of the Senate Armed Services Committee and himself a Vietnam War prisoner, said it was an "important step" toward determining Bergdahl's accountability.Representative Mac Thornberry, head of the House Armed Services Committee, accused the administration of making the case more difficult by failing "to follow the law surrounding the release of the Taliban 5."Bergdahl's case has been under review by General Mark Milley, head of U.S. Army Forces Command, who was asked to look at the circumstance surrounding Bergdahl's capture. As a result of the review, Bergdahl was charged with desertion with intent to shirk important or hazardous duty and misbehavior before the enemy by endangering the safety of a command, unit or place, said an Army spokesman at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where Milley is based. The desertion charge carries a maximum prison term of five years, while the misbehavior count carries a maximum term of life in prison, he said. The charges also carry a number of other potential punishments, including a dishonorable discharge, reduction in rank to private and forfeiture of all pay.In a statement issued by his lawyers, Bergdahl said he was beaten by his Taliban captors a number of times with a copper cable or a thick rubber hose. He also said he tried to escape about a dozen times.Bergdahl's parents declined to comment on the Army's decision to charge their son. Some residents in his hometown of Hailey, Idaho, also expressed reluctance to comment on the developments, citing anger aimed at the community after it showed support for him following his release.A rally for Bergdahl was abruptly canceled last summer amid the political uproar. The family and several supporters received threats by email and telephone, Hailey officials said.Debbie O'Neill, one of the co-organizers of the canceled rally, said she thought people were shocked by the Army's decision on Wednesday."Other than that, I think we have to wait for the military justice system to play out," she said. "I'm sure the military has enough evidence to back up the charges, but my heart breaks for him (Bergdahl)."After a period of rehabilitation following his release, Bergdahl was reassigned to military duties. He currently has an administrative role in an office at Fort Sam Houston.A spokeswoman at the base said it would be up to the lawyers to determine what would happen to Bergdahl now that he had been charged.(Reporting by David Alexander in Washington, Jim Forsyth in San Antonio and Laura Zuckerman in Salmon, Idaho; Additional reporting by Eric Johnson in Seattle; Editing by Susan Heavey, Sandra Maler and Jonathan Oatis)
