IAF Strikes in Gaza Following Rocket Barrage-IAF launches airstrikes against three terrorist targets in southern Gaza.By Elad Benari, Canada-First Publish: 7/4/2014, 9:02 PM-IsraelNationalNews

Israeli Air Force (IAF) aircraft struck three terrorist targets in southern Gaza on Friday evening, the IDF said in a statement. The airstrikes came after terrorists from Gaza fired 17 rockets towards southern Israel throughout the day, of which eight were fired in the afternoon hours.“The IDF is prepared to defend the citizens of Israel from any threat and will continue to act decisively and as long as necessary until quiet is restored,” said the statement, which added that Hamas was directly responsible for the rocket fire.Of the eight Kassam rockets fired towards Israel during the course of Friday afternoon, two were intercepted by the Iron Dome anti-missile system over the city of Ofakim. Two rockets exploded in open areas near Netivot and there were also explosions in open areas in Kerem Shalom, in the Eshkol Regional Council and the Merhavim Regional Council. One rocket caused minor damage in a kibbutz in the Eshkol region. The rocket fire came amid reports that Egypt is mediating a potential ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.Earlier Friday, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman (Yisrael Beytenu)criticized the possibility of a ceasefire as rocket fire continues."These quiet messages we send to Hamas offering a ceasefire are a huge mistake," Liberman said Friday while visiting the city of Sderot. "Answering this [terror] with silence is a serious mistake and we in Yisrael Beytenu reject this approach."(Arutz Sheva’s North American Desk is keeping you updated until the start of Shabbat in New York. Vandals paint swastikas on road to Western Wall-In southern Israel, additional swastikas with ‘Death to the Jews’ vandalism discovered=By Times of Israel staff July 4, 2014, 3:12 pm 3

Dozens of swastikas were spray-painted alongside the road to the Western Wall in Jerusalem in the past few days.On Friday, swastikas and hate graffiti calling for “Death to the Jews” were also found outside the southern town of Rahat, the Ynet news website reported.Police are investigating the incident.Right-wing Jewish Home MK Ayelet Shaked posted images of the Jerusalem graffiti. She added a sarcastic refrain, on the lack of widespread condemnation, on her Facebook page.“Surely you’ve seen these pictures all over the media,” she wrote. “Tzipi Livni has surely denounced it. Surely President Peres already went on a visit there. Surely the internal security minister called it terror. Oh, sorry, it’s only a swastika. No biggie.”The swastikas in Jerusalem come amid an increase in tensions between the city’s Jewish and Arab residents in the wake of the killing of 16-year-old Muhammed Abu Khdeir, which sparked three days of riots in East Jerusalem neighborhoods.

With PA leaders issuing no calls for calm, street will decide what happens next-Mahmoud Abbas has squarely placed responsibility for Arab teen’s killing on Israeli ‘settlers,’ and is not intervening as riots continue-By Elhanan Miller July 4, 2014, 8:39 pm 4-The Times of Israel

Palestinian leaders have not waited for the results of the autopsy of Muhammad Abu Khdeir to decide that it was “settlers” who kidnapped the East Jerusalem 16-year-old on Wednesday morning and burned him to death.Clashes between police and Palestinians continued before, during and after the youth was laid to rest in his home Jerusalem neighborhood of Shuafat on Friday afternoon, with Palestinian news agencies reporting over 20 people injured from rubber bullets. Israel Radio reported 13 police officers were lightly injured in the clashes.Tensions were high in Jerusalem as Abu Khdeir’s funeral took place in the heat of the day, following the first Friday prayers of Ramadan. Riots in the eastern neighborhoods of Shuafat, Beit Hanina and Ras Al-Amoud had been continuing on and off for the third consecutive day.In the absence of calming messages from the Palestinian leadership, the street continues to control the level of flames.“Settlers have burned and killed a young child. It is known who the settlers are,” said PA President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday. The Palestinian leader had come under significant criticism for the sympathy he had expressed for the kidnapping and killing of three Israeli teenagers last month, sympathy Palestinians largely feel has not been reciprocated by the Israeli leadership.“When Israel speaks of a kidnapping, it still doesn’t know who the kidnappers are, yet it places the responsibility on us … if Israel truly wants peace, it should punish those responsible and then end the settler phenomenon,” Abbas continued Thursday. The PA president made no reference to the violent clashes which were taking place across Jerusalem, and did not call for cooler heads to prevail. He apparently felt he had lost the remaining political and popular clout that would have allowed him to do so.The PLO, which Abbas chairs, was harsher in its criticism of Israel, which has not yet officially decided whether the killing was criminal or nationalistic in nature. The Netanyahu government was to blame for the “racist crimes” which the “settler gangs” were perpetrating, said Palestinian National Council chairman Salim Za’anoun.“ These racist crimes stem from an [Israeli] mentality of black vengeance, disregard for murder and the Palestinian blood,” Za’anoun continued, calling for international intervention to “protect the Palestinian people from the occupation and its settlers.”With no leadership speaking to or on behalf of Jerusalem’s Palestinians, neither in the PA nor in the Israeli Knesset, it will be the street which decides whether it now opts for escalation or calm. We’ll all see in the next few days which they choose.

Israel sends troop reinforcements to Gaza border. National home front on heightened alert
DEBKAfile Special Report July 3, 2014, 2:28 PM (IDT)

Israeli defense officials passed the word to foreign news agencies Thursday, July 3, that troop reinforcements had been sent to the Gaza Strip border amid intensifying Palestinian rocket barrages. debkafile’s military sources report that the reinforcements almost certainly included tanks and self-propelled artillery.A military official added that the Israeli Navy had reinforced its war fleet opposite Gaza’s Mediterranean coast, and the Home Front Command had raised the national level of alert. While highly reluctant to embark on a major offensive against Hamas in its Gaza stronghold, the Israeli government could scarcely continue to avoid real action after 30 rockets were aimed on the same day, July 2, against Ashkelon, Netivot, Sdot Negev, Sderot, Kerem Shalom and the Eshkol District. Three slammed Thursday morning into houses in Sderot, causing heavy damage but no casualties. The IDF clearly expects the Gaza missile barrage to widen out from targets in southern Israel to towns further north.Tensions are also simmering in Jerusalem over the suspected revenge killing of a Palestinian boy, with further violent Palestinian outbreaks expected to accompany his funeral later Thursday. The various sources said that, by passing word of a military buildup, Israel was most likely broadcasting a grave warning to Hamas to stop the missile barrage or else the IDF would step in for a wider operation than heretofore to achieve this purpose. Thus far, Hamas has not been persuaded by Israeli air strikes to rein in its own or fellow terrorist organizations shooting rockets at Israel.
