Abbas: No recognition of Israel as Jewish state

Associated Press
RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) — Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said there is "no way" he will recognize Israel as a Jewish state and accept a Palestinian capital in just a portion of Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem, rebuffing what Palestinians fear will be key elements of a U.S. peace proposal.Abbas' comments signaled that the gaps between him and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remain wide after seven months of mediation efforts by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.Abbas, whose remarks were published on Friday by the Palestinian news agency WAFA, said he withstood international pressure in the past, when he sought U.N. recognition of a state of Palestine over Washington's objections.Speaking to youth activists of his Fatah party, he suggested he would stand firm again, particularly over the demand that the Palestinians recognize Israel as a Jewish state."They are pressing and saying, 'no peace without the Jewish state'," he said, though not spelling out who is applying the pressure. "There is no way. We will not accept."Netanyahu has said such recognition is required as proof that the Palestinians are serious about peace. Abbas has noted that the Palestine Liberation Organization recognized the state of Israel in 1993 and said this is sufficient.
Palestinians fear the demand is an Israel attempt to restrict possible return options of Palestinian refugees and the rights of Israel's large Arab minority.Kerry is expected to present his ideas for the contours of an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal soon, but it appears increasingly unlikely he can get Abbas and Netanyahu to accept such a framework by an April 29 deadline.Abbas is meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama at the White House on March 17, as part of U.S. efforts to press both sides. Netanyahu met with Obama earlier this week. The current round of talks began in late July, but was plagued from the start by disagreement between Abbas and Netanyahu on the ground rules. The Palestinians want a state in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem, lands Israel captured in 1967, and said talks about that state should use the 1967 lines as a starting point, a position backed by the U.S. but rejected by Netanyahu. In previous negotiations with Netanyahu's predecessors, the Palestinians have said that they are willing to accept minor land swaps to enable Israel to keep some of the dozens of Jewish settlements built on occupied land since 1967. Most of the international community deems those settlements illegal under international law.Netanyahu never presented a detailed border proposal, but said that Israel wants to keep east Jerusalem, maintain a long-term military presence in the West Bank's Jordan Valley and annex unspecified "settlement blocs."Netanyahu accelerated settlement construction during the talks, with housing starts in settlements more than doubling in 2013, compared to the year before. He also said the Palestinians must recognize Israel as a Jewish state, a demand that appears to have U.S. support, based on recent speeches by Kerry and Obama.Abbas said in his speech late Thursday that he would not compromise on a demand for a Palestinian capital in east Jerusalem.Earlier Thursday, Abbas' aide Mohammed Ishtayeh said he believes the Kerry proposal will only refer to such a capital "in Jerusalem," raising fears the Palestinians will be asked to make do with a small part of the eastern sector.Abbas did not refer to the possibility of extending the talks. His aides have said he does not want to be blamed for a collapse of the Kerry mission or accept what the Palestinians would consider a bad framework. In such a situation, accepting an extension might be seen as the lesser evil by the Palestinians.Abbas reiterated that the Palestinians have options if the negotiations don't lead to a deal. He said he would resume their quest for wider U.N. recognition, a step Israel and the U.S. adamantly oppose and that was suspended for nine months of the negotiations. Abbas said the Palestinians could also continue to resist occupation with demonstrations. He said he does not want to negotiate for the sake of talking."I accept a valuable chance (for an agreement) if there really is a valuable chance, not just talk," he said.

Kerry makes unannounced stop in Jordan to talk peace

Top US diplomat to meet King Abdullah in Red Sea port of Aqaba as Israeli-Palestinian negotiations appear stalled

March 7, 2014, 1:49 pm 9-The Times of Israel
AQABA – US Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Jordan on Friday for talks with King Abdullah II on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, a US spokeswoman travelling with him said. The short stop in the Red Sea port of Aqaba, where he was to meet the king, had not been previously announced.Kerry, who arrived from Rome from where he also brought back his Jordanian counterpart Nasser Judeh, will discuss the Middle East peace process with the monarch, spokesperson Marie Harf said.“We are arriving in Aqaba, Jordan, with Foreign Minister Judeh today to see King Abdullah to talk about the peace process,” Harf said.
Jordan is one of only two Arab states to have signed a peace treaty with Israel, and King Abdullah holds a special position because the 1994 accord recognizes his country’s “historic” role in caring for Muslim holy sites in east Jerusalem.Israel and the Palestinians remained deadlocked in ongoing peace talks that Kerry helped to launch last July.Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday urged Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas to recognize Israel as a Jewish state and to “abandon the fantasy” of flooding Israel with returning Palestinian refugees. His remarks sparked a furious reaction from the Palestinians, who denounced his demand. The spat threw a harsh spotlight on the divide between the two sides and the Herculean task faced by Kerry, who is trying to get them to agree on a framework for extending direct peace talks beyond an April 29 deadline.

Abbas aide: Extension of Mideast talks unlikely

Mohammed Ishtayeh warns ‘gap is growing’ in negotiations, says PA cannot recognize Israel as a Jewish state

March 6, 2014, 9:41 pm 10-The Times of Israel
RAMALLAH — Gaps between Israeli and Palestinian negotiators only have widened in seven months and an extension of talks appears unlikely after what is bound to be a missed April 29 deadline for a framework deal, an aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Thursday.Abbas is meeting with US President Barack Obama on March 17 as the US tries to press both sides to agree on a framework, or the ground rules for future negotiations. Obama held talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House earlier this week. The Abbas aide, Mohammed Ishtayeh, on Thursday laid out the Israeli and Palestinian negotiating positions and the expected US proposal for a framework deal.“What we have seen in the talks is that the gap is growing, rather than narrowing,” Ishtayeh told foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations. Ishtayeh resigned as a negotiator in November to protest accelerated Israeli settlement building. For the Palestinians, the biggest obstacle is a new demand — introduced only in this round of negotiations — that they accept Israel as a Jewish state, Ishtayeh said. The PLO recognized the state of Israel when peace efforts began two decades ago and Abbas has argued this is sufficient.Abbas cannot “under any circumstances” recognize Israel as a Jewish state because this would restrict the return options of Palestinian refugees and potentially pave the way for a gradual expulsion of Israel’s large Arab minority, Ishtayeh said.Israel argues that such recognition would provide proof that the Palestinians are serious about peace.Israel’s land demands pose another serious obstacle, Ishtayeh said.
The Palestinians want a state in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem, lands Israel captured in 1967, but are ready to accept minor modification to accommodate some of the dozens of settlements Israel has built on occupied lands.Israel wants to annex these so-called “settlement blocs,” but never has presented a detailed border proposal. The Palestinians have calculated that these blocs would translate into about 12 percent of the West Bank, Ishtayeh said. Israel also wants a long-term military presence in the Jordan Valley, which makes up 28 percent of the West Bank, he said.Israeli officials have declined to discuss the content of the negotiations. With US Secretary of State John Kerry apparently unable to bridge the gaps, there is some expectation that the US will seek an extension of the talks until the end of the year.Ishtayeh said he believes it would be pointless to do so because there is no common ground. “We don’t have terms of reference … which means we and the Israelis are reading from different books,” he said.An Abbas aide, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the issue with reporters, suggested the Palestinian leader might agree to an extension with the right enticements. Ideas such a settlement freeze and a release of additional Palestinian prisoners by Israel have been floated. Since late July, Israel has released 78 veteran prisoners in three groups and the fourth is to be freed at the end of March. However, a full settlement freeze is unlikely since Netanyahu rejected such a demand in the past. A partial freeze would be problematic for Abbas because it would imply he indirectly sanctions some settlement construction.

Foreign Ministry Strike May Postpone Pope

Intensifying strike threatens to make British PM Cameron's visit next week 'impossible,' as well as pope's first visit in May.-By Ari Yashar-First Publish: 3/7/2014, 12:43 PM-Israelnationalnews

An ongoing partial strike of the Foreign Ministry may make Pope Francis's first visit to Israel in May "impossible," according to Yigal Palmor, a spokesman of the ministry."Imminent planned visits by foreign leaders, including (British Prime Minister) David Cameron next week or the pope in May, will be complicated, and perhaps impossible," Palmor told AFP on Friday. The strike stepped up a notch on Tuesday, potentially shutting off the state to diplomatic visits.Palmor, speaking as an employee and not representing the ministry as spokesman, noted "the leaders could come as tourists, but diplomats will not take care of logistics, protocol or the political dimension of these visits."The pope announced his visit in January. In response to the strike the Vatican has clarified it has no plans to cancel the trip. Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi noted the strike "is likely to cause complications in preparing for the trip. There's nothing more to it."In February, Rabbi Sergio Bergman, a member of the Argentinian parliament and close friend of Pope Francis, reported that the pope intends to define himself as the "Che Guevera of the Palestinians" and support their "struggle and rights" during his visit, turning it into a propaganda tour.As for Cameron, a delay next week would add insult to injury given that the British prime minister already delayed his planned Israel visit in mid-February to deal with massive flooding in England.Cameron was scheduled to speak at the Knesset next Wednesday, in what would have been his first visit to the Jewish state since taking office in 2010.

ANGELS OF THE CONTINENTS TO DR DOCTORIAN-WHATS COMING ON THE EARTH

FIRST ANGEL TO DR DOCTORIAN
The first angel said: I have a message for all of Asia. When he said that, in a split few seconds, I could see all of China, India, the Asian countries like Vietnam, Laos - I've never been to those countries. I saw the Philippines, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. And then the angel showed me all of Papua New Guinea, Irian Jaya and down to Australia and New Zealand.I am the angel of Asia, he said. And in his hand I saw a tremendous trumpet that he is going to blow all over Asia. Whatever the angel said, it's going to happen with the trumpet of the Lord all over Asia. Millions are going to hear the mighty voice of the Lord. Then the angel said, There shall be disaster, starvation - many will die from hunger. Strong winds will be looked like has never happened before. A great part shall be shaken and destroyed. Earthquakes will take place all over Asia and the sea will cover the earth.I saw this on June 20. Today is August 16. A few weeks ago I heard the news of villages completely wiped out and washed into the sea in Papua New Guinea. Thousand of lives in great jeopardy. That happened a few weeks ago, and the angel told me it is going to happen all over Asia. The earth will fall into the sea, I heard the angel say, part of  Australia will be shaken. Australia will be divided, and a great part will go under the ocean. This was frightening - I wondered whether I was hearing right. But the angel said,Millions will die in China and in India. Nation will be against nation, brother against brother. Asians will fight each other. Nuclear weapons shall be used, killing millions. Twice I heard the words,  Catastrophic! Catastrophic! then the angel said, Financial crisis will come to Asia. I will shake the world.I was trembling while the angel was speaking. Then he looked at me and smiled and said, There shall be the greatest spiritual awakening - bondage will be broken. Barriers will be removed. And all over Asia - China - India - people will turn to Christ. In Australia there shall be tremendous revival. I heard the angel of Asia say, It is the last harvest. Then as if the Lord were speaking, he said, I shall prepare My church for the return of Christ. I was happy with such good news after the message of judgment. All the time the five angels were in my room I could feel their presence - it was tremendous.

SECOND ANGEL TO DR DOCTORIAN
Then I saw that the second angel had a sickle in his hand, such as is used in harvesting. The second angel said, Harvest time has come in Israel and the countries all the way to Iran. I saw those countries in a few split seconds. All of Turkey and those [inaudible;] countries that have refused me and refused my message of love shall hate each other and kill one another. I saw the angel raise the sickle and come down on all the Middle East countries.I saw Iran, Persia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, all of Georgia - Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, all of Asia Minor - full of blood. I saw blood all over these countries. And I saw fire; Nuclear weapons used in many of those countries. Smoke rising from everywhere. Sudden destruction - men destroying one another.I heard these words, Israel, Oh Israel, the great judgment has come. The angel said, The chosen, the church, the remnant, shall be purified. The Spirit of God shall prepare the children of God. I saw fires rising to heaven. The angel said, This is the final judgment. My church shall be purified, protected and ready for the final day. Men will die from thirst. Water shall be scarce all over the Middle East. Rivers shall dry up, and men will fight for water in those countries. The angel showed me that the United Nations shall be broken in pieces because of the crisis in the Middle East. There shall be no more United Nations. The angel with the sickle shall reap the harvest.

THIRD ANGEL TO DR DOCTORIAN
Then one of the angels with wings showed me Europe from one end to the other - from the north all the way down to Spain and Portugal. In his hand he had a scale of measurement. I saw him fly over Europe, and I heard the words, I am grieved. I am grieved. Unrighteousness, uncleanness, ungodliness - all over Europe. The sin has risen to heaven. The Holy Spirit is grieved. I saw the rivers of Europe flooding and covering millions of houses. Millions drown. After seeing this, I read the news a few weeks ago. Czechoslovakia had the worst flooding ever. I also heard that the big river in China is in tremendous danger of thousands of houses being destroyed in flooding. I didn't know all this news until after I had seen the vision and heard what the angels told me.Suddenly I heard earthquakes all over Europe.  Countries that have had no earthquakes shall be shaken, said the angel. And suddenly, in my spirit, I saw the Eiffel Tower in Paris crumbling falling down. A great part of Germany destroyed. The great city of London - destruction everywhere. I saw floods all over Scandinavia. I looked to the south and saw Spain and Portugal passing through hunger and great destruction. Many will die from hunger all over Spain and Portugal. I was disturbed by all this news, and I said, Lord, what about your children? The angel said, I shall prepare them. They shall be looking for the appearing of the Lord. Many will cry to me in those days and I will save them. I shall perform mighty miracles for them and show them My power. So in the midst of great destruction, there will be the grace of God in those countries. I was happy that God has His protection over His children.

FOURTH ANGEL TO DR DOCTORIAN
Now we go to Africa. I saw the fourth angel with wings fly over Africa, and I could see from Capetown in the south all the way to the north of Cairo - I saw all the countries there, more than fifty of them. The angel of Africa had a sword in his hand - a tremendous, sharp sword. Suddenly I heard him say, Innocent blood has been shed. Divisions amongst the people generations far from the Lord - they have killed one another, thousands of people. I have seen my faithful children in Africa, and I shall reward all the faithful in the continent of Africa. I shall bless them abundantly. I shall control the weather - scorching and burning of the sun in some parts. Great rivers shall dry up, and millions will die from starvation. In other parts, flooding. Foundations shall be shaken. My sword shall judge the unrighteous and the bloodthirsty. So many earthquakes shall happen that rivers shall flow different directions in the continent, flooding many villages. I saw great pieces falling from the sky over different parts of Africa .There shall be trembling of the earth like has not been seen since the creation. None shall escape the sword of the Lord. I saw the River Nile drying up. It is the god of Egypt. Fishes dead and stinking all over Egypt. A great part of the middle of Africa will be covered with water - millions dying. Lord, I said, It is all bad news. All destruction. Any good news? The Lord said, The final day has come. Judgment day is here. My love has been refused now, and the end has come. I was shaking and trembling. I thought I cannot bear it.

FIFTH ANGEL TO DR DOCTORIAN
Then I saw the last angel flying over North and South America - all the way from the North Pole down to Argentina. From the east of the U.S.A. to California. I saw in his hand a bowl. The angel said he would pour out over these countries the judgments that were in the bowl. Then I heard the angel say, No justice anymore. No righteousness. No holiness. Idolatry. Materialism. Drunkenness. Bondage of sin. Shedding of innocent blood - millions of babies being killed before they are born. Families are broken. An adulterous generation. Sodom and Gomorrah is here. The days of Noah are here. False preachers. False prophets. Refusing of my love. Many of them have the imitation of religion, but denying the real power. When I heard all that, I begged the angel, Can you not wait for a little while? Don't pour it. Give a chance for repentance. The angel said, Many times God has spared and has spoken, but they have not listened. His patience has come to an end. Beware, the time has come. They have loved money and pleasure more than they have loved Me. As the angel began to pour from the bowl in his hand, I saw tremendous icebergs melting. When that happened I saw floods all over Canada and North America - all the rivers flood; destruction everywhere. I heard the world market collapsing with mighty earthquakes, and New York skyscrapers were tumbling - millions dying.I saw ships in the ocean sinking. I heard explosions all over the north country. I saw the angel pouring over Mexico and two oceans joining together- the Atlantic and the Pacific. A great part of north Brazil covered with water, the Amazon River turning into a great sea. Forests destroyed and flooded. Major cities in Brazil destroyed; earthquakes in many places. As the angel poured, great destruction took place in Chile and Argentina as never before. The whole world was shaking. Then I heard the angel say, This will happen in a very short time.I said, Can't you postpone? Don't pour these things out all over the globe. And suddenly I saw the five angels standing around the globe lifting up their hands and their wings towards heaven and saying, All glory to the Lord of heaven and earth. Now the time has come and He will glorify His Son. The earth shall be burned and destroyed. All things shall pass away. The new Heaven and New Earth shall come. God shall destroy the works of the devil forever. I shall show My power - how I will protect My children in the midst of all this destruction.

STORMS HURRICANES-TORNADOES

LUKE 21:25-26
25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity;(MASS CONFUSION) the sea and the waves roaring;(FIERCE WINDS)
26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear,(TORNADOES,HURRICANES,STORMS) and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth:(DESTRUCTION) for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.(FROM QUAKES,NUKES ETC)

THE FIRST JUDGEMENT OF THE EARTH STARTED WITH WATER-IT ONLY MAKES SENSE THE LAST GENERATION WILL BE HAVING FLOODING
GENESIS 7:6-12
6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.
7 And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.
8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,
9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.
10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
GOD PROMISED BY A RAINBOW-THE EARTH WOULD NEVER BE DESTROYED TOTALLY WITH A FLOOD AGAIN.BUT FLOODIING IS A SIGN OF JUDGEMENT.

Here comes El Nino; good news for US weather woes

Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) — Relief may be on the way for a weather-weary United States with the predicted warming of the central Pacific Ocean brewing this year that will likely change weather worldwide. But it won't be for the better everywhere. The warming, called an El Nino, is expected to lead to fewer Atlantic hurricanes and more rain next winter for drought-stricken California and southern states, and even a milder winter for the nation's frigid northern tier next year, meteorologists say. While it could be good news to lessen the southwestern U.S. drought and shrink heating bills next winter in the far north, "worldwide it can be quite a different story," said North Carolina State University atmospheric sciences professor Ken Kunkel. "Some areas benefit. Some don't."Globally, it can mean an even hotter year coming up and billions of dollars in losses for food crops. The National Oceanic Atmospheric and Administration issued an official El Nino watch Thursday. An El Nino is a warming of the central Pacific once every few years, from a combination of wind and waves in the tropics. It shakes up climate around the world, changing rain and temperature patterns.
Mike Halpert, acting director of NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, says the El Nino warming should develop by this summer, but that there are no guarantees. Although early signs are appearing already a few hundred feet below the ocean surface, meteorologists say an El Nino started to brew in 2012 and then shut down suddenly and unexpectedly. The flip side of El Nino is called a La Nina, which has a general cooling effect. It has been much more frequent than El Ninos lately, with five La Ninas and two small-to-moderate El Ninos in the past nine years. The last big El Nino was 1997-1998. Neither has appeared since mid-2012. El Ninos are usually strongest from December to April.Kevin Trenberth, a senior scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, who wasn't part of NOAA's forecast, agreed that an El Nino is brewing.
"This could be a substantial event and I think we're due," Trenberth said. "And I think it could have major consequences."Halpert said it is too early to say how strong this El Nino will be. The last four have been weak or moderate and those have fewer effects on weather.Scientific studies have tied El Ninos to farming and fishing problems and to upticks in insect-born disease, such as malaria. Commodity traders even track El Nino cycles. A study by Texas A&M University economics professor Bruce McCarl found the last big El Nino of 1997-1998 cost about $3 billion in agricultural damage.Trenberth said this El Nino may even push the globe out of a decade-long slowdown in temperature increase, "so suddenly global warming kicks into a whole new level."Kunkel said if this El Nino is a strong one, global temperatures, probably in 2015, could "be in near record breaking territory."Halpert, however, says El Ninos can be beneficial, and that the one being forecast is "a perfect case."After years of dryness and low reservoirs, an El Nino's wet weather would be welcome in places like California, Halpert said."If they get too much rain, I think they'd rather have that situation rather than another year of drought," Halpert said. "Sometimes you have to pick your poison."
Australia and South Africa should be dry while parts of South America become dry and parts become wet in an El Nino. Peru suffers the most, getting floods and poorer fishing. The climate event got the name El Nino, meaning the boy in Spanish, when it was first noticed off the coast of Peru and Ecuador around Christmas time and was named after Christ child, according to Trenberth.___Online:

Scorcher summers predicted for Europe

AFP
Paris (AFP) - Europe is headed for scorching summers with temperatures well over 40 degrees Celsius (104 deg Fahrenheit) and droughts in the south within the next 40 years, climate scientists said Friday.Europe is expected to witness some of the most dramatic climatic changes due to global warming, according to research published in the journal Environmental Research Letters. As well as hotter summers, Europe's north should see considerably milder winters -- some 5 C to 8 C warmer in Scandinavia and Russia."Most of Europe will experience higher warming than the global average" of 2 C, said the team.UN negotiators are aiming to keep global warming at only 2 C above pre-Industrial Revolution surface temperatures, saying that it threatens rising sea levels, more droughts and floods, and an increasing spread of disease. If only "moderate actions" are taken to curb Earth-warming greenhouse gas emissions, the 2 C warming will already have been reached by mid-century, the team said, and even sooner if current trends continue."Even the achievement of the 2 C goal will be accompanied by a significantly changed climate from today, and will necessitate adaptation," they wrote.A global increase of 2 C will mean particularly large increases in Europe, except for the UK which will have lower relative warming. In summer, daily maximum temperatures could be 3-4 C higher over southeast Europe and the Iberian Peninsula "and rise well above 40 C in regions that already experience some of the highest temperatures in Europe, such as Spain, Portugal and France," said the statement."Such higher temperatures will increase evaporation and drought", and increase heat stroke risk.
In winter, maximum daily temperatures could be 2-3 C higher in central and southern Europe, and 5-8 C in Scandinavia and Russia."The higher winter warming in Northern Europe will have a mix of positive as well as negative effects, including reduced winter heating" and a drop in cold-related deaths, said the study. It would negatively impact winter tourism and ecosystems.Rainfall may decline by up to 10 percent in southern Europe on average, and increase by the same margin in the north, said the study."Most of the continent will experience an increase in instances of extreme precipitation, increasing the flood risks which are already having significant economic consequences," such as in England at the moment. The team used climate models to simulate changes under a warming scenario of rapid economic growth and moderate greenhouse gas emissions. The average global temperature has already increased by 0.8 C on pre-industrial levels.According to the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), it could rise an added 2.6 to 4.8 C by the end of this century, on a high-emissions scenario.
