(NaturalNews) John, Mary and Kate are three "investors" who are buying bitcoins. Each time one of them buys a bitcoin, the value of bitcoins rises due to increased demand.

John got in early and bought 10 bitcoins for $1 each. So John's investment is a total of $10.Mary got in a month ago and bought 10 bitcoins for $20 each. So Mary's total investment is $200.Kate just bought her bitcoins, purchasing 10 of them for $200 each. So Mary's total investment is $2,000.The total amount of their combined purchases as $10 + $200 + $2000, or a grand total of $2210.But the three of them, in total, THINK they have a grand total of $6,000 worth of bitcoins because ALL the bitcoins they purchased are now "valued" at the most recent purchase price of $200.In other words:John currently owns 10 bitcoins valued at $200 each, so John thinks he's got "$2,000 worth of bitcoins" in his account.Mary's 10 bitcoins are also valued at $200 each, so Mary thinks she's got "$2,000 worth of bitcoins."Kate's bitcoins are also worth $200 each, so Kate has $2,000 worth of bitcoins.In total, these three people believe they have $6,000 worth of bitcoins.Yet, they only "invested" $2210.Somehow, $3,790 in "value" was created out of nothing.

In truth, John, Mary and Kate are all suffering under a shared delusion by thinking they each possess $2,000 worth of bitcoins. All currencies are shared delusions, including the U.S. dollar. They only hold their value as long as very few people sell the currency. Once a selloff begins, the mathematical process that created the excess "virtual valuation" reverses itself, destroying valuations across all the investors.All currencies depend on "faith" in the currency. That's why the U.S. dollar is claimed to be backed by the "full FAITH and credit of the U.S. government." Without the faith, the currency collapses.Bitcoin valuations also require faith... faith that a large selloff will not occur. Because if it does, prices will naturally fall as the supply of bitcoins increases due to people selling them into the market. Importantly, this is NOT equal to $6,000 -- the dollar amount they all believed they had in bitcoins.The brings up a truism about any such investment vehicle, including currencies, stocks and bonds:Perceived valuations do not reflect the actual cash value to be received during a mass selloff. What they reflect is the maximum optimism, multiplied across all account holders, based on the last selling price.

Suppose one million people currently own one bitcoin each, and the latest selling price for bitcoins is $200.
This means the total valuation of the currency is $200 million (i.e. $200 x 1 million).Now, suppose some guy gets excited and offers to buy just ONE bitcoin at $220, signifying a $20 price increase. A seller figures, "Well, I'll make twenty bucks" and sells him the bitcoin at $220.Now, suddenly, $220 is the latest selling price for bitcoins, making it the new valuation for ALL bitcoins. So those one million people who all own bitcoins now think each of their bitcoins has gone up by $20. This has the effect of creating $20 million in extra valuation out of thin air.Yep, suddenly the total valuation of bitcoins is $220 million instead of $200 million, and this was all due to ONE transaction placed by ONE person, using nothing more than $220 in U.S. currency to make the transaction.Now you see how easily the central banks could be manipulating bitcoins into a sky-high bubble followed by a crash

If you're a central banker, you hate bitcoin. You want to see it destroyed, of course, but more importantly you want to see it discredited. JERUSALEM (AP) — Among the crowds marking Israel's annual Holocaust remembrance day at the Yad Vashem memorial Monday was a retired American Air Force colonel from San Francisco who came to honor a family he never knew.Bertrand Huchberger was too young to remember his parents, who sent him and his older sister from Paris into the French countryside to escape the Nazi roundups during World War II. For three years he was hidden by Christian rescuers, including a prostitute, before he was put into an orphanage and adopted by American Jews when he was 11 and taken to New York.Now 75, Huchberger took part in a rite that has become a centerpiece of the Israel's annual memorial day for the 6 million Jews killed in the genocide by reading the names of his dead relatives: his parents, Alexander and Elenora Noz, and his brother, Albert, who stayed behind in Paris. Admiral says North Korea is direct threat to US

WASHINGTON (AP) — The top U.S. military commander in the Pacific said Tuesday that North Korea's pursuit of nuclear weapons and long-range ballistic missiles represents a clear and direct threat to the United States and its allies in the region.Adm. Samuel Locklear, commander of U.S. Pacific Command, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that Kim Jong Un, the country's young and still relatively untested new leader, has used the past year to consolidate his power.Locklear concurred with the assessment that the tension between North Korea and the West was the worst since the end of the Korean War in the early 1950s. The admiral insisted that the U.S. military and its allies would be ready if North Korea tried to strike.
Locklear said North Korea is keeping a large percentage of its combat forces along the demilitarized zone with South Korea, a position that allows North Korea to threaten U.S. and South Korean civilian and military personnel."The continued advancement of the North's nuclear and missile programs, its conventional force posture, and its willingness to resort to asymmetric actions as a tool of coercive diplomacy creates an environment marked by the potential for miscalculation that, and controlled escalation, could result from another North Korean provocative action," Locklear told the panel.Increasingly bellicose rhetoric has come from Pyongyang and its leader, with North Korea urging foreign companies and tourists to leave South Korea and warning that the countries are on the verge of a nuclear war.During an exchange with Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., Locklear said he was confident that U.S. missile defenses are capable of intercepting a ballistic missile launched by North Korea. Egypt's Christian pope blasts Islamist president

CAIRO (AP) — The leader of Egypt's Coptic Orthodox Church on Tuesday blasted the country's Islamist president over his handling of recent deadly sectarian violence, including an attack on the main cathedral in Cairo.The remarks by Pope Tawadros II underscore rising Muslim-Christian tensions in Egypt. They were his first direct criticism of President Mohammed Morsi since he was enthroned in November as the spiritual leader of Egypt's Orthodox Christians. They are also likely to fuel political turmoil that has been roiling the country since the ouster of autocrat Hosni Mubarak two years ago.Egypt is already divided between two camps, with Morsi and Islamist allies in one and moderate Muslims, Christians and liberals in the other. The political schism is essentially over Egypt's political future after decades of dictatorship, a divide that has been compounded by a worsening economy and tenuous security.An open conflict between Morsi's government and the church could add a new and potentially explosive layer, pushing Egypt to the brink of civil strife.
Tawadros also warned that the state was "collapsing" and described Sunday's attack on the St. Mark Cathedral in central Cairo, which serves as the Coptic papal seat, as "breaching all the red lines."He said Morsi had promised him in a telephone conversation to do everything to protect the cathedral, "but in reality he did not."Asked to explain, Tawadros, who spoke in a telephone interview to a political talk show aired on the private ONTV network, said it "comes under the category of negligence and poor assessment of events." It was not clear whether he was accusing Morsi himself or whether he was addressing the president's government.In the Sunday violence, an angry mob of Muslims threw firebombs and rocks at the Coptic cathedral in Cairo, leaving two people dead. One of the two was identified as a Christian.The attack followed a funeral service for four Christians killed in sectarian clashes in a town north of Cairo early the day before. A fifth person, a Muslim, was also killed. It was the deadliest sectarian violence since Morsi came to office nine months ago as the country's first freely elected president."The church has been a national symbol for 2,000 years," Tawadros said. "It has not been subjected to anything like this even during the darkest ages ... There has been no positive and clear action from the state, but there is a God. The church does not ask for anyone's protection, only from God."Tawadros also criticized the president over his decision on Monday to revive a state body mandated to promote equality between Egyptians regardless of their religious and ethnic background. Morsi's decision was in response to the sectarian violence."Enough already of formations, committees and groups and whatever else," Tawadros said."We want action not words and, let me say this, there are many names and committees but there is no action on the ground," he added.Morsi has strongly condemned the recent violence and said that he considered any attack on the cathedral to be an attack on him personally. He also ordered an investigation into the violence."Should we wait for instructions to start an investigation when something happens?" Tawadros said in response to Morsi's order. "Egypt's laws must be adequate to deal with the situation. This is a society that is collapsing. Copts have complained for decades of discrimination and issues such as the building of houses of worship or inter-religious love stories often ignite Muslim-Christian violence.But attacks against Christians have increased since Mubarak's 2011 ouster, including more attacks on churches and at times forced evictions of entire Christian communities from small towns and villages.
With Islamists politically empowered since the overthrow of Mubarak's regime, Christians have become increasingly worried about their freedom of worship and belief.During Sunday's funeral service at the St. Mark Cathedral, mourners chanted against Morsi, calling on him to step down. Witnesses say a street brawl broke out when Coptic activists tried to stop traffic to stage an anti-government march.A mob, described by witnesses as residents of the area, pelted the Christians with rocks and firebombs and fired birdshot at them, forcing them back into the cathedral complex. The mob outside and the Christians barricaded inside then exchanged rocks and firebombs for hours into the night Sunday.Many of the Christians denounced what they called a lack of protection for the service. When police did arrive in greater numbers, they fired tear gas, causing panic among women and children when some canisters landed inside the cathedral's grounds. Those outside the church cheered.Some firebombs thrown from near the church landed at a nearby gas station, while witnesses said some in the church lobbed firebombs at the crowd outside.Police said they have arrested four people implicated in the violence, but didn't provide details. Tawadros was not in the cathedral at the time of the siege.

At their meeting in Paris, which ended yesterday, Bishops of Europe discussed the catechesis, school and university

Rome This was one of the questions asked by the Bishops of Europe in a meeting with chaplains, figures responsible for university pastoral care programmes and delegates of ecclesial associations and movements from 22 countries. The meeting, on the theme “Catechesis, School and University” was chaired by the President of the Council of the European Conference of Bishops’ Conferences of Europe (CCEE), Mgr. Marek Jedraszewski, and participants were assisted by experts. It took place in Paris between 4 and 7 April at the inter-diocesan Seminary of St. Sulpice.During the debate, English priest Fr. A. Pinsent, who is director of research at Oxford University’s Ian Ramsay Centre for Science and Religion, said the idea of separating science from faith is a stereotype, a preconception that does not correspond to reality, because they are completely reconcilable, as shown by the fundamental contributions made by a large number of Christian scientists to the progress of humanity over the centuries.
 
Opposition towards reconciliation is the result of an “aggressive atheism” present in the world of academia, but also an indifferent or practical atheism “that is reflected in the relative ignorance of many university students in the fields of science and faith.” According to Polish professor Blazewicz, of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznan, the risk is creationist extremism on one hand and atheist, agnostic extremism on the other: both positions are closed to dialogue and hinder people’s search for the truth. Meanwhile, according to Fr. Iosif Tiba from Romania, a former university chaplain, social media also have a part to play in this, as people’s perception of the relationship between science and faith has been influenced by the discovery and use of this media, from the invention of the press to the internet; on the other hand, now that young people are so heavily dependent on social media, there is a renewed need for God.It has also been said that science is a path toward God: so university is an ideal place for sharing, discussion and reflection, where correct information can be passed on about the history of the relationship between science and the Church. Fr. Michel Remery, deputy general secretary of the CCEE, claimed that university pastors and chaplains have the task of “helping young university students and scientists see the essential relationship between science and faith, betweens ingle scientific facts and human life in its entirety, based on and inclined towards God.”The meeting revealed the wealth of activities and projects organised by Europe’s Bishops’ Conferences for the university pastoral care programme, as part of the new evangelisation initiative, which is a real challenge in today’s modern world. At the end of the four-day meeting, bishops met international university students, who have been studying in Paris as part of the Erasmus exchange programme.

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Tuesday wrapped up three days of high-level Mideast diplomacy on a positive note, saying he held "very constructive talks" with Israeli and Palestinian leaders and promising to press on in an effort to break a four-year deadlock over resuming direct negotiations.Talking to reporters after holding private talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Kerry said the parties all committed to a process that could "create the conditions for peace" so that they can return to the negotiating table.Kerry stressed that he was being mindful of the "good intentions and failed efforts" that have dogged Middle East diplomacy in the past and said he'd focus on "laying the groundwork so we can bring people to the table with a clear understanding of what we're beginning on, what we're trying to do, and where we're trying to end up."Kerry, who has committed the United States to a multi-month diplomatic effort, stressed that he was being intentionally coy on the specifics of his new peace push.
"It's not going to be done and shouldn't be done in piecemeal public releases," he said. "It's best done quietly."The secretary of state also said he would be engaging in a parallel effort to break down red tape and other barriers to economic progress in the West Bank to improve the lives of Palestinians and provide a climate for two-state solution. He said such an effort would also improve Israel's security.He said changes would come soon, and said more details would be announced in the coming week after meetings in Washington with U.S. aid agencies and financial institutions.Netanyahu told reporters earlier Tuesday that he wanted peace.
