Electronic skin tattoo has medical, gaming, spy uses

A hair-thin electronic patch that adheres to the skin like a temporary tattoo could transform medical sensing, computer gaming and even spy operations, according to a US study published Thursday.The micro-electronics technology, called an epidermal electronic system (EES), was developed by an international team of researchers from the United States, China and Singapore, and is described in the journal Science.It's a technology that blurs the distinction between electronics and biology, said co-author John Rogers, a professor in materials science and engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.Our goal was to develop an electronic technology that could integrate with the skin in a way that is mechanically and physiologically invisible to the user.The patch could be used instead of bulky electrodes to monitor brain, heart and muscle tissue activity and when placed on the throat it allowed users to operate a voice-activated video game with better than 90 percent accuracy.This type of device might provide utility for those who suffer from certain diseases of the larynx, said Rogers.It could also form the basis of a sub-vocal communication capability, suitable for covert or other uses.The wireless device is nearly weightless and requires so little power it can fuel itself with miniature solar collectors or by picking up stray or transmitted electromagnetic radiation, the study said.

Less than 50-microns thick -- slightly thinner than a human hair -- the devices are able to adhere to the skin without glue or sticky material.Forces called van der Waals interactions dominate the adhesion at the molecular level, so the electronic tattoos adhere to the skin without any glues and stay in place for hours, said the study.Northwestern University engineer Yonggang Huang said the patch was as soft as the human skin.Rogers and Huang have been working together on the technology for the past six years. They have already designed flexible electronics for hemispherical camera sensors and are now focused on adding battery power and other energy options.
The devices might find future uses in patients with sleep apnea, babies who need neonatal care and for making electronic bandages to help skin heal from wounds and burns.

My email box has been flooded with what reveals to be a growth in national rage and attempts to do something to get our country back. I have read of the upcoming Birther summit, launched by concerned citizen Dean Haskins. Lots of folks are signing up for this in Washington D.C. on March 11, 2012. It will showcase many speakers and national leaders most concerned about the eligibility of our President, Barack Hussein Obama. It is great to see more and more people wake up to this living nightmare, mostly ignored by our sold out and cowardly media. Few have had anything at all to say in the House, Senate, those running for Presidential nominations and our media about the forgery of a birth certificate showed to the American people and the world on April 27th 2011. The people are increasingly awake on this issue. I have been screaming about this on air and in print for years!There is another bold plan of action thrown out to the people by Larry Klayman www.larryklayman.com. He is calling on peaceful, civil disobedience to remove democrat and republican leaders on September 17, 2011. It will only get worse between now and 2012.My gut level concern and warning to all involved in any civil disobedience, marches, protests and Tea Party events: Make sure you remind and train your people and participants who you are dealing with and ways to protect your events. Expect plants and those who will set you up to appear as racists, violent law breakers and dangers to the country. Have cell phone cameras everywhere and take tons of pictures and video. Have volunteer security everywhere as well for all your sakes.As anger builds and more events are planned, know that you all will be in Obama and the progressive cross hairs. Along with civil disobedience what else can we do? The Mid Term elections started the unseating of Progressive leftists in power, now I predict the 2012 election will take it all the way home and start the bold healing of our country. Yes, we must do what we can to speak the real issues now and make a stand where we can, but also, we as a country ALL must vote this time, not just 60% of us. UK anarchy is the fruit of socialism

The media searches for the disadvantaged black youth to parade in front of the cameras, then counters it with the same black disadvantaged youth getting their act together and condemning the violence. The politicians are busily touring the affected areas keen to parade their professional bleeding social hearts in front of the cameras. What this week has shown is the moral failure that results when the political philosophy of socialism imbeds itself into a society.As the courts empty, a new profile of the perpetrators is emerging. The usual suspects of gangs, mindless thugs and opportunists are the majority but how do you explain the real estate agent, the lifeguard, the chef, the postman, the 17-year-old ballerina, the millionaire’s daughter, the 2012 Olympic ambassador or the university grad with a promising career in social work now undermined because of her newly acquired criminal record? They have all swallowed the poison that makes them truly believe we can achieve equality and justice for all at the expense of the rich. Add to this the secularism that socialism relies on to provide its moral base and you have no hope of a properly formed conscience. The false morality of entitlement trumps the immorally of theft when the decision is taken to smash the glass and grab the iphone. The excuses of multiculturalism, class or opportunism all fall apart.

Whether you dress it up as conservative or liberal, the political values and principles in the West, to a lesser or greater degree, are about the state being provider, teacher, parent and entrepreneur. The real tragedy that the riots of London, Vancouver (and just about any G20 you care to name) show, is that for that moment in time the veil is peeled back to reveal the rot of amorality and enslavement to a culture of self-esteem and self-absorption that the West has adopted like the proverbial boiled frog. Socialism relies on pride and self esteem to demand our rights to that which it tells us we are entitled.

It is for equality and sameness; rational control by government and the diminishing of freedom and power in the rest of society. The relationship between the state and the individual replaces the relationship between people in families or within civil society. The world view of socialism is materialistic in that is seeks to alleviate everything – poor health, poverty, unfairness of social class or absence of talent by throwing money at it which leaves no room for the free will of the individual.Labour governments have always been disastrous for the UK but in thirteen years of Tony Blair’s New Labour, not only did he manage to politicize every great British institution from the judiciary to the civil service and police, Labour has created massive national debt, a bloated bureaucracy, and an expanded and unfair welfare state with its attendant victim culture. As case in point: figures out this week show the number of young men claiming disability benefit have risen from 1.1 million to 3.2 million since 1992. More than 124,000 males aged between 16 to 24 are claiming up to £125 (US $ 205) per week – a fivefold increase since 1992. A closer look into the figures reveals people with drug and alcohol problems, asthma and ‘unspecified’ back pain are just some of the claims filed. Why work when you can wheeze your way into your state employed doctor’s office and get the rubber stamp to bag an easy pay check for nothing? And it’s probably more than the immigrant builder or fruit picker gets because he costs less to the employers who have to pay huge taxes to keep our disabled in the style they have been accustomed.

Of course there are the truly needy which used to fall to extended families, faith groups and charities to step in and help. But now we only have personal conscience to rely on making the right choice of grabbing at a handout or working hard because you can and it’s the right thing to do. And therein lies the worst aspect of what a socialist mindset does, which is it blinds man to the truth about himself – that there is a natural order, that there must be a mastery of the will to do the right thing, that we are bound by morals and a responsibility to other people – by our own choice and by means that we decide as individuals, not by a government taking your money and doing it all for you so you don’t have to think about anything but yourself and pursuing pleasure.A London police sergeant I spoke to understands this all too well because the Met deals with these thugs all the time. Most of the gangs that went on the rampage are already well known to police. They deal with them every single Saturday night in just about every UK city centre you care to name. They come from welfare backed families with lousy or absent parenting and get thrown in front of magistrate’s courts on a regular basis and back into the streets within days in some cases. As the sergeant puts it’ these feral yobs (hooligans) are well aware of their human rights, but no one has told them about their responsibilities. Taxpayer billions have been spent on youth clubs but the interviews on TV have the masked young men claiming to get on their best trainers and go looking for work with a CV and talk most polite like man and they ain’t noticing me, so this is payback. Just what tells them they are entitled to that job? Socialism fails to understand the truth about human nature. When we speak of truth today in relative terms , i.e. your truth is not my truth, or that it depends on the context or circumstances (a favourite with politicians) then we dilute the ability to understand truth. This leads entire societies to lose a sense of reality. This has happened throughout history. The Nazis took Weimar Germany in 13 short years from a Judeo Christian philosophy into the ability to categorize entire subsections of society as sub-human and act to annihilate them. When you lose a sense of duty and responsibility to other people what happens is that a sense of nihilism creeps in. Nothing matters anymore.Seeing that play out is truly shocking as we saw this week when Asyraf Haziq, a Malaysian student bystander, bleeding from his broken jaw was helped up by two thugs, who then promptly robbed him. Or worse the 68-year-old white male who tried to put out a fire and was bludgeoned to death, or the three Asian youths mowed down and killed by a car driven by black youths. Some commentators have tried to spin this into a race issue, but the magnificent dignity of Tariq Johan, the father of one of the victims, came on our TV screens and pleaded for everyone to come together and stop the madness. It was humbling to watch his exemplary behaviour and plea for young people to stop ruining their lives. Asyraf Haziq demonstrated such an impressive and gentle demeanour of forgiveness, odds are every Brit looking for a holiday will be hot footing it to Malaysia.

Multiculturalism is not the reason for discord in society but the tool for the left to pit people against one another so that they can step in with their egalitarian answers and solutions. Oppressed peoples have traditionally fled to free societies like Canada and the US to escape, but socialism is claiming those cultures as well. Pierre Trudeau’s social engineering program in Canada has now firmly chomped down on the veins of civil society and replaced the flow of the blood of freedom with transfusions of human rights law and bureaucracy . Obama is doing his level best to ensure the same fate for America.In Britain our so called conservative PM David (just call me Dave) Cameron is even now promising the state will do more to support the families and victims of violence. More welfare, more benefits. The rot is so deeply set, that if you try to cut the benefits or don’t create new ones, you lose the votes.Let me end by saying London is a really great place to live. The vast majority of people living here of all races are decent citizens and friendly to boot with great senses of humour. ( We need it!) They labour under heavy taxes and complex and nonsensical liberal regulation that are the fruits of socialism. Maybe this display of anarchy has made them angry enough to try and change the political philosophy behind it but that will be a long and painful road. If you were considering coming to the Olympics next summer and now are not, you can be sure the politicians will spend what it takes to keep the games and London safe. There are so many glorious buildings, museums, restaurants, shops and the richness of British history. Come and spend your tourist dollars here because once the cost of this mess comes to light, we are going to need them.

The time has come for Israel to cancel the Oslo Accords, Minister of National Infrastructure Uzi Landau told Arutz Sheva. The absurd accords should be canceled both because of the Palestinian Authority's plan to seek unilateral statehood, and because they are harmful, he said.These agreements were absurd and grave, and did serious damage to Israel's security, he argued.No less importantly, they paved the way to give legitimacy to the existence of a Palestinian people and to the argument that they deserve a state in Judea and Samaria, the cradle of our society. These accords turned the leader of a terrorist gang, Yasser Arafat, into a supposed cultured leader worthy of joining the society of nations,he continued. When Israel gives legitimacy to the PA, the organization that was established with the position that we turned them into poor refugees,it then struggles to present any alternative view, he said.Israel must inform the PA that going to the United Nations to seek recognition of a unilaterally declared PA state will mean an end to any and all agreements reached between Israel and the PA until that point, Landau stated. In addition, They must be informed that [Israel] will declare sovereignty over large territories in the national consensus, like Area C and the settlement blocs, he said.
The reality [created] will be new and different.

PA State - Arab Suffering
If the PA does go to UN, it will win majority support, even if leading democracies are against its plans, Landau said. The PA must realize that if it does go to the UN, the price they will pay will be very high,he said.For example, he said, despite several dry years in a row, PA Arabs remain able to turn on their faucets and be confident that water will come out – a confidence not shared by their neighbors in Syria and elsewhere. If the PA cuts ties with Israel, the lifestyle enjoyed by those under its leadership will sink to meet the level of residents of other Arab states.

Israel Must Prepare for Violence
Despite the PA's public talk of non-violent protests, Israel must prepare for violence, Landau warned. We look at our neighbors and we see what non-violent protests' look like in the Middle East. We will need to defend ourselves, he declared.Anyone who does not appreciate the danger is naive. For them, the distance between going out to protest and pulling a trigger is very short, he added.

Four EU countries have slapped a temporary ban on short-selling in an effort to dampen down wild swings in trades in banking stocks.Short selling has been blamed for adding to volatility in the financial markets (Donald Townsend)The European Securities and Markets Authority, the bloc’s market supervisor, announced on Thursday (11 August) that Belgium, France, Italy and Spain had made the move, a ban that will last for 15 days.Short selling traders in effect make a bet that certain shares will decline in value. The practice has been blamed for exacerbating volatility in already tumultuous markets.At the height of the financial crisis in 2008, European and American market supervisors made similar moves.Esma itself does not have the power to impose the ban, but can co-ordinate the institution of national bans.The language the authority used in a communique sharply attacked unscrupulous traders it accused of profitting from the spread of false information.

According to the historical record, the ideology of Japanese imperialism and world domination which ignited World War II, originated in Japan in the end of the 19th century.Starting with universal military conscription, in 1873, the Japanese military indoctrinated thousands of men from various social backgrounds with military-patriotic values and the concept of unquestioning loyalty to the Emperor. The Japanese government at this time was strongly influenced by the recent striking success of Prussia in transforming itself from an agricultural state to a leading modern industrial and military power.The government adopted Prussian political ideas, which favored military expansion abroad and authoritarian government at home. The protesters, many of them relatives of Hamas terrorists detained by the PA, accused PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas' troops of conducting the arrests for political reasons.Children of prisoners chained themselves together, according to Maan news. Others held signs saying,Human rights organizations – what are you doing to achieve rights? Protesters accused human rights groups of failing to stand up to the PA.Some of the adults present accused PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas of deliberately undermining the recent reconciliation of the warring Fatah and Hamas factions. Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has altered a law that granted men an automatic light sentence in the murder of female relatives if they claimed defense of family honor. If the PA parliament approves the bill, judges will have the power to rule that the honor claim does not stand.They will also retain the power to rule that the honor defense is valid.Previously, PA law followed Jordanian laws dating back to the 1960s, which ruled that a man who murdered a female relative would get a maximum of six months in prison if he argued that she had been engaged in a sexual relationship outside of marriage. PA society sees improper sexual activity on a woman's part as tarnishing her family's honor, and her death as the only way to remove the blemish.The change follows a high-profile case in which a young PA woman was murdered by an uncle. While several young PA women in Judea, Samaria and Gaza are murdered in honor crimes each year, the case of young Aya Baradiya was different in that her immediate family strongly opposed the murder, and maintains that Aya was innocent of any honor offense.The killing was also particularly cruel – Aya's uncle and his accomplices beat the 21-year-old student and threw her down a well still alive to drown.

PA-based rights groups had different reactions to Abbas' step toward changing the law. While some praised the move as a triumph for women's rights following years of struggle, others expressed concern that the law, even if passed, may not change facts on the ground as it leaves judges with the power to rule that honor is just cause for murder.Violence against women remains a widespread problem under PA rule, and even more so under Hamas. A 2010 study found that up to 75% of Gaza women are subjected to physical violence from male relatives; the findings were blamed on Israel.Honor killings are an issue in some Arab cities in Israel as well. The European Union has agreed to save the Palestinian Authority from a financial crisis that led it to stop paying full employee salaries. EU officials are giving 22.5 million euros to help the PA pay its roughly 170,000 public employees.In addition, Sweden is giving four million euros.PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad thanked Swedish officials Thursday, and called on other countries to follow Sweden's lead. He mentioned the Arab world in particular.Fayyad has accused Arab countries of playing a part in the current crisis by failing to follow through on promises of aid.
International organizations have warned for years that the PA, never a self-sufficient entity, is becoming increasingly dependent on aid. Fayyad argues that the PA is ready for a state anyway.Fayyad has also claimed that the PA is heading in the right direction, a claim disputed by experts.Among the elements of the PA economy criticized by experts is the fact that the PA employs more than 170,000 people, despite currently being responsible for an estimated 1.5 million residents. Tens of thousands of the PA employees live in Gaza, where they have continued to receive salaries for several years despite being replaced by Hamas employees in 2007.

SEC To Investigate Trades Based On S&P Downgrade Inside Information Zero Hedge Aug 12, 2011

While the president makes yet more speeches about how the time to leave the past behind us is now (while newly scapegoating Europe for the economic catastrophe), the sniping war against S&P continues, only this time with a twist. According to the FT, the SEC has asked the rating agency to disclose who at the company knew about the downgrade, as part of a preliminary look into potential insider trading. The funny thing is that while the answer will be everyone, even in that case the SEC will end up doing nothing as it always does (pun intended), and the whole process is nothing but a sham to humiliate the rating agency.The inquiry was made by the SEC’s examination staff, which has oversight of credit rating firms, one person familiar with the matter said. The exam staff can make referrals to the SEC’s enforcement division if it believes any laws have been violated, but the inquiry might not result in a referral….Proving someone leaked information about the downgrade, or traded ahead of it, could be challenging. Many traders anticipated the downgrade and bets could occur across numerous securities or currencies without inside information. In a traditional insider trading case, there is often a more predictable correlation between a company’s stock price and a particular development.Of course the next question is what is the null hypothesis: that leakees would buy or sell bonds based on the info? Because the natural response would be to dump treasuries even as the real outcome was a plunge in equities and a scramble to safe one-ply paper. So is PIMCO about to be charged with insder trading for having sold 10 Years even though in reality the spread tightened by a record 60 bps in the following week? So instead of going on yet another wild horse chase, in which the simple defense is that all those who traded on the leaked downgrade report, actually lost money, how about doing some real work and finding out if some of the numerous politicians who were certainly privy to the data, and for whom insider trading regulations are ineffective, did not by some odd chance spill the secret to their significant others.

Which brings us to the inverse case, already discussed previously on Zero Hedge, when we learned about two months ago that after Moody’s had leaked the fact that it would not downgrade the US, one of those who found out was Nancy Pelosi. This inspired us to ask whether it was not so much Ms. Pelosi, but local financier and multi-millionaire Paul Pelosi who may have traded on said information.For the benefit of those who may have missed it, we recreate the full piece below, and in doing so we ask the SEC to perhaps investigate and pursue cases which are a little easier to prove and prosecute, instead of going on yet another worthless and time-consuming wild goose chase that will inevitably result in absolutely nothing.

Moody’s reputation for leaking inside information is well-known: after all it was one of its own employees, Deep Throat Shah, who leaked to infamous hedge fund Galleon information of upcoming LBOs. But at least that wasn’t information originating from Moody’s: the world’s most incompetent rating agency was merely a conduit. Yet we were little surprised to learn that the firm that facilitated the housing bubble, and where such talking head apparatchiks as Mark Zandi reside, informed none other than House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi that it likely wouldn’t downgrade the US debt as long as several weeks ago. Per Dow Jones: Moody’s earlier Thursday took the unusual step of warning that it might place the U.S. government’s debt rating under review for a possible downgrade. The agency said the review would come if Congress doesn’t make progress on raising the country’s debt ceiling. Pelosi said she was alerted to the Moody’s report just after House Democrats met with President Barack Obama at the White House. She said a few weeks ago she was in New York and the head of Moody’s told her that it would probably not downgrade, so this is interesting news today,she said.But the fact is we cannot default on the debt. We are relieved to learn that the head of Moody’s, a firm which only last summer received a Wells Notice from the SEC, in an investigation which was promptly scuttled by powerful and rich people, takes its responsibility of protecting material, non-public information with such passion. Yet it is the topic of another leak of non-public information, and not Moody’s criminal incompetence, that bothers us. Because as wenoted last week, it is now proven scientifically that members of both Congress and Senate (especially democrats), tend to trade a littel too much on inside information. And even if not Ms. Pelosi, who precisely will guarantee us that Ms Pelosi’s husband, multi-millionaire Paul Pelosi who just happens to be the owner of Financial Leasing Services, Inc., a San Francisco, California-based real estate and venture capital investment and consulting firm, did not procure the Moody’s inside information courtesy of wagging tongues at Moody’s and in his wife’s mouth, and then proceed to trade accordingly. Alas, with the regulator in charge being the same one who let the whole Moody’s investigation get deadended in record time, we are not hopeful of getting any information or justice. Ever.

Operating through Financial Leasing Services, his San Francisco investment firm, Paul Pelosi owns stock in companies including Microsoft, AT&T, Cisco Systems, Disney, Johnson & Johnson and a variety of tech stocks.Real estate investments include a four-story office building at 45 Belden St. in the Financial District, office buildings on Battery and Sansome streets near the Embarcadero, a building housing a Walgreens drugstore near Ocean Beach and other commercial property in San Anselmo.Other investments include a St. Helena vineyard worth between $5 million and $25 million, a $1 million-plus townhome in Norden (Nevada County), and minority interests in the Auberge du Soleil resort hotel in Rutherford, the CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, and the Piatti Italian restaurant chain.
