Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan, the kingdom’s former ambassador to the United States, is reportedly under house arrest over a conspiracy against the monarch. Saad al-Faqih, head of the opposition group Islamic Reform Movement, told Arab-language TV al-Alam that Prince Bandar has been disappeared and the media has published no word from the ex-diplomat’s whereabouts since nearly three months ago. According to al-Faqih, the prince first disappeared in Britain but he returned to the kingdom shortly afterwards. He added that after Saudi officials discovered that he had provoked 200 agents working for the Saudi security service to stage a coup against King Abdullah, he was put under house arrest.Al-Faqih said people close to the king had disclosed Bandar’s plots and foiled them.He said Saudi sources believe that intelligence provided by some Arab countries help the Saudi monarch foil Prince Bandar’s conspiracy. Power struggle between members of the Saudi royal family has been common as power is shared among some 200 princes out of the estimated 7000 family members.

Known as Bandar Bush because of his close relations with former US President George W Bush, the prince is son of Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz.

Despite recent Arab statements opposing US demands for confidence-building steps towards Israel, the US anticipates it will have the pieces in place to formally re-launch the Arab-Israel peace process in the coming weeks.The Obama administration is seeking a complete freeze on Israeli settlements in exchange for Palestinian security reforms and Arab gestures towards Israel. With those in place, the US plans to announce both those steps and a resumption of negotiations, likely at an international conference, a senior State Department official told The Jerusalem Post Monday. He noted that no final decision had been made about the format, and that a simultaneous release of press announcements in various capitals or other mechanisms might be used.When asked about the timeframe of the efforts being led by US Middle East envoy George Mitchell at a press briefing Monday, US State Department spokesman Philip Crowley said Monday it would be a matter of weeks.The senior State Department official said he was referring to completing the current phase of the process, which has consisted of Mitchell consulting with officials from the various countries in the region on the steps they would be taking at the US's behest. He described that process as requiring a few more weeks of negotiation, though he noted Muslim and Jewish holidays coming in August and September could delay things.The comments of Arab leaders in Washington, however, have not appeared to be in line with what the US is seeking and what Israel would like to see in exchange for a settlement freeze.

On Monday, the Emir of Kuwait, Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah, met with US President Barack Obama and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hosted Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh. Judeh voiced reservations about confidence-building measures, arguing that there has been in the past an over-investment, perhaps, by the parties in pursuing confidence-building measures, conflict-management techniques, including transitional arrangements, and an overemphasis on gestures, perhaps at the expense of reaching the actual end game.But he went on to back the concept as long as that end-game of reaching a final-status deal for a two-state solution was in place, saying, What we need is confidence-building measures - confidence-rebuilding measures, I should say - that resurrect people's faith in negotiations and that create a conducive environment for launching negotiations.His words came on the heels of Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal's comments in Washington Friday pouring cold water on the idea of confidence-building steps, pointing to divisions among Arab countries as to what should be done and complicating the administration's efforts to reach a deal. After Saud's own meeting with Clinton, he told members of the media that incrementalism and a step-by-step approach has not and - we believe - will not achieve peace. Temporary security, confidence-building measures
will also not bring peace.The Kuwaiti emir was more reticent than the Jordanian and Saudi foreign ministers, saying after his meeting with Obama,It is in our interest that peace be brought about, and the indicator is that the recent Arab peace initiative that was agreed upon by all of the Arab parties and states, and we would implement this peace initiative when Israel implements and fulfills its obligations.

The Obama administration has welcomed the peace initiative, in which the region's Arab countries would recognize Israel in return for Israeli withdrawal from land captured in 1967 and compromises on Jerusalem and Palestinian refugees. The confidence-building measures - incipient signs of normalization such as opening trade offices and granting overflight rights to Israeli planes - are in part an effort to form a bridge to discussions and potential implementation of some of the plan's guiding principles.Even so, and despite the influx of Arab dignitaries - a list to which Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's name is set to be added on August 18 after a previous trip was cancelled - the Obama administration has had difficulty making visible progress. The visits follow a tour of key regional stops by Mitchell, who has also been having difficulties pressuring Israel to completely freeze settlement activity, including natural growth, though there are expectations that a compromise will soon be hammered out in which Israel suspends settlement construction for a least a limited period.Though the US has recently tempered its criticism of settlement activity, Clinton on Monday did sharply criticize Israeli eviction of Palestinians from their homes in Jerusalem, saying, These actions are deeply regrettable. I have said before that the eviction of families and demolition of homes in East Jerusalem is not in keeping with Israeli obligations. And I urge the government of Israel and municipal officials to refrain from such provocative actions.
David Makovsky, co-author of the book of the Middle East Myths, Illusions and Peace assessed that the US focus on the perfect - a complete freeze - instead of the more doable good of halting settlement expansion had raised Arab expectations to the extent that now they don't want to negotiate with Israel, as it is resisting the freeze.

It's hard to ask the Arabs to be more Zionist that the US on settlements, he said. In a statement to WND, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office today objected to U.S. condemnation of the Israeli government for enforcing property law in Jerusalem by evicting Arabs from a Jewish housing complex they purportedly had been illegally occupying for almost a century.The eviction yesterday in Jerusalem was a result of a ruling by our Supreme Court that had to decide in a dispute between two parties over the legal control of a property,Netanyahu's spokesman, Mark Regev, told WND.Continued Regev: The Supreme Court ruled for one side and not the other. In all democracies the rulings of the courts must be upheld, and it is incumbent on the executive branch to implement such decisions.Regev said the Israeli Supreme Court is renowned internationally for both its independence and its professionalism. There are countless examples of the Supreme Court ruling in favor of the Palestinians in land disputes.Washington today condemned the Arab evictions. State Department spokeswoman Megan Mattson said such actions in eastern Jerusalem constitute violations of Israel's obligations under the U.S.-backed Road Map peace plan.Unilateral actions taken by either party cannot prejudge the outcome of negotiations and will not be recognized by the international community,she said in a statement.Much of the U.S. and international media the past two days have been reporting on Israel's eviction of Arab families from a house in eastern Jerusalem. Many of the reports failed to provide proper background regarding why the Arabs were kicked out of the home.The housing complex is located in the Sheik Jarra neighborhood of eastern Jerusalem. The home was originally Jewish, but its Jewish occupants were chased out during countrywide anti-Jewish Arab riots in 1929. Arabs then squatted on the property, with one family, the Hejazi family, becoming the de facto occupants despite never having purchased the property.

Even though documentation shows the complex is owned by Jews and that Arabs have been squatting on it illegally for almost a century, Jewish groups say they still legally re-purchased the property from the Hejazi family.Following pressure from the Palestinian Authority, however, the family later denied selling the complex back to the Jews despite documentation and other evidence showing the sale went through.The PA in April warned Palestinians against selling their homes or properties to Jews, saying those who violate the order would be accused of high treason – a charge that carries the death penalty.

Israel's court system twice ruled the property in question belongs to Jews.

Former German foreign minister Joschka Fischer should run the European Commission according to MEP Daniel Cohn-Bendit, while British ex-commissioner Chris Patten is eyeing an EU foreign minister role.A European mandate would not be the worst thing for Joschka,Mr Cohn-Bendit told the Frankfurt Journal magazine on Tuesday (4 August).The two politicians know each other since the 1970s, when both helped staged street protests for the radical left and later joined the Green party. Mr Fischer was foreign minister under chancellor Gerhard Schroeder from 1998 to 2005. He supported German military intervention in Kosovo but opposed the Iraq war. He came back onto the EU political scene in June by agreeing to promote the Nabucco gas pipeline - a project to link the EU directly to suppliers in the Caspian Sea region, reducing dependency on Russia.Britain's former EU commissioner for external relations, Chris Patten, has meanwhile told the FT that he would like to take up the new EU foreign minister role envisaged by the Lisbon treaty. EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - Less than two weeks after Iceland formally applied to join the European Union, a Capacent Gallup poll published in the country's largest daily, Morgunbladid, has shown that most Icelanders are cold on membership.A majority of 48.5 percent is now opposed to entering the EU, 34.7 percent of people are in favor and 16.9 percent are undecided, the survey shows. The study was conducted between 16 and 27 July 2009 among 1,273 people.The new poll suggests a swing to the No camp of almost 10 per cent since the last survey, conducted by the same company in spring.

In May, 38.6 percent was opposed to EU membership, 39 percent of people were in favor and 22.4 percent were undecided.A slim majority in the newly elected Icelandic parliament, the Althing, decided last month (16 July) to back a bid for EU membership.

Iceland's minister of foreign affairs, Ossur Skarphedinsson, submitted the request to his Swedish counterpart, Carl Bildt, representing the Swedish EU presidency, a few days later.If the EU negotiations go smoothly, Icelanders will eventually be asked to approve accession in a referendum, according to a deal between the political parties in Iceland.The new opinion poll was published on the same day as news emerged about the reasons behind the financial collapse last year of the country's biggest bank, Kaupthing Bank.An internal risk analysis report from the bank has been leaked via the WikiLeaks whistleblower website. As this patent readily explains, ingredients used in the vaccine are derived from the kidneys of African Green Monkeys who are first infected with the virus, then allowed to fester the disease, and then are killed so that their diseased organs can be used make vaccine ingredients. This is done in a cruel, inhumane flesh factory environment where the monkeys are subjected to a process that includes incubating said inoculated cell line to permit proliferation of said virus.Then: harvesting the virus resulting from step (c); and… (ii) preparing a vaccine from the harvested virus.Aside from the outrageous cruelty taking place with all this (incubating the virus in the kidneys of living monkeys, for example), there’s another disturbing fact that has surfaced in all this: The patent for this process is held not just by the National Institutes of Health, but by another private corporation known as DynCorp.This, of course, brings up the obvious question: Who is Dyncorp? Government collusion?
One of the key inventors in these patents now held by DynCorp was Dr. Robert H. Purcell. Who is Dr. Robert Purcell? He’s one of the co-chiefs of the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases operating under the National Institutes of Health of the U.S. government. Can you guess which company received one of the largest vaccine manufacturing contracts? Baxter Pharmaceuticals, the very same company using ingredients derived from African Green Monkeys in precisely the way described in the patents held jointly by DynCorp and the NIH. Remember, Baxter is the company that was caught inserting live viruses into vaccine materials distributed to 18 different countries.

So far, we have the U.S. government awarding swine flu vaccine manufacturing contracts to a major U.S. vaccine manufacturer (Baxter) that uses vaccine ingredients from African Green Monkeys (sick!), derived from a process covered in a patent invented by U.S. government NIH researchers (Dr. Purcell and others) and now held jointly by the NIH and a private military contractor named DynCorp — the very same company that’s paid to monitor the U.S. / Mexico border where H1N1 swine flu first appeared.And just today, there’s yet another development in all this: A Tamiflu-resistant strain of swine flu has just been discovered. Care to guess where? Because it certainly appears that a grand conspiracy between the NIH, the vaccine makers and private military contractors could have pulled this off.But wait: Would a private military contractor really resort to such tactics just to make money? Since the late 1990s, the United States has paid private contractors an estimated $1.2 billion, both to eradicate coca crops and to assist the Colombian army put down rebels that use the illegal drug trade to finance their insurgency. DynCorp has been awarded under competitive bid more of this business than any other company. In September 2001, a group of Ecuadorian farmers filed a class-action lawsuit against DynCorp under the Alien Tort Claims Act (ATCA), the Torture Victim Protection Act and state law claims in US federal court in the District of Columbia. The plaintiffs claimed that from January to February 2001 DynCorp sprayed the herbicide almost daily, in a reckless manner, causing severe health problems (high fever, vomiting, diarrhea, dermatological problems) and the destruction of food crops and livestock of approximately 10,000 residents of the border region. In addition, the plaintiffs alleged that the toxicity of the fumigant caused the deaths of four infants in this region. The plaintiffs alleged under ATCA that DynCorp’s intensive aerial spraying of a toxic fumigant amounted to torture, a crime against humanity and cultural genocide.

And on the issue of DynCorp’s people engaging in the sex slave trade:According to whistleblower Ben Johnston, a former aircraft mechanic who worked for [DynCorp] in Bosnia, employees and supervisors of a predecessor company to today’s DynCorp International engaged in sex with 12 to 15 year old children, and sold them to each other as slaves.On June 2, 2000, members of the 48th Military Police Detachment conducted a sting on the DynCorp hangar at Comanche Base Camp, one of two U.S. bases in Bosnia, and all DynCorp personnel were detained for questioning. CID spent several weeks working the investigation and the results appear to support Johnston’s allegations. For example, according to DynCorp employee Kevin Werner’s sworn statement to CID, during my last six months I have come to know a man we call Debeli, which is Bosnian for fat boy. He is the operator of a nightclub by the name of Harley’s that offers prostitution. Women are sold hourly, nightly or permanently.
Could this same company — which admittedly sprays poison on family farms in Colombia and Ecuador — have engaged in another crime against humanity with the release of swine flu virus in Mexico? Important questions that need to be asked (and answered)
This apparent conspiracy brings up several important questions that need to be answered:

1) Why are key viral vaccine patents jointly held by the NIH and a large private military contractor?
2) Given the atrocious vaccine material handling safety record of Baxter Pharmaceuticals, why did the U.S. government choose Baxter to manufacture vaccines for public consumption?
3) Why is no one talking about the African Green Monkeys who are infected, incubated and then killed for harvesting vaccine ingredients used in the swine flu vaccine?
4) Is it just coincidence that the swine flu virus (and now the Tamiflu-resistant mutation of the virus) first appeared at the U.S. / Mexico border near where DynCorp has a security presence?
5) Why would the inventors of a key vaccine technology agree to hand over ownership of the patent to a private military contractor like DynCorp?
6) Why has nobody in the mainstream media noticed any of this yet (or not bothered to report on it?)
7) How much money is DynCorp collecting on the vaccine patents due to the sudden large-scale manufacture of swine flu vaccines taking place right now?

Why does the U.S. government continue to do business with criminally-minded organizations and incompetent vaccine manufacturers? The pieces of the puzzle (opinion).It’s difficult to consider all the evidence presented here and not come to the rational conclusion that something sinister is afoot in America today. Let me paint a picture for you of a plausible scenario of what I think is happening right now. Note, carefully, that this is merely speculation, but it’s a theory that makes sense:Back in the late 1990’s, evil leaders of the U.S. government decided they needed to launch a covert population control measure that could reduce the population while deflecting blame for the deaths. The obvious choice for this was a viral pandemic, so using the viral samples and knowledge already attained by U.S. Army virologists, they engineered a combination swine / avian / human influenza virus patterned after the 1918 influenza that devastated the world population nearly a century ago. The plan, of course, would be to release the virus into the wild and let nature do the rest.But killing off a lot of people isn’t profitable enough all by itself. The plan is a lot smarter if you add a profit center to it… and that’s where the vaccines come into play. First, the patents had to be secured in order to guarantee profitability. DynCorp was offered partial ownership of the patents (together with the National Institutes of Health) in exchange for its responsibility to covertly release the engineered virus in Mexico, assuring the global spread of the next influenza pandemic. It will be paid back in patent royalties from the pharmaceutical companies that are awarded the government-funded vaccine manufacturing contracts.Baxter was chosen by the U.S. government precisely because of its expertise in inserting live viruses into vaccine materials. And just to make sure the drug companies would play along, the U.S. government (under the Bush administration) granted them all complete immunity against product liability for all vaccines. This removed any financial risk from the drug companies while setting the stage for a massive human die-off following the vaccine injections.Once the injections begin and people start dying, the deaths will simply be blamed on the virus itself. The drug companies have complete legal immunity, and DynCorp gets its share of the profits as the holder of the patents. Key conspirators are rewarded with bonus stock options and / or the threat of being killed if they talk.

Through this plan, several important things are accomplished:1) The population gets reduced (with no blame on the national leaders).2) Billions of dollars get funneled to powerful corporations.3) The pandemic outbreak itself allows government to declare a State of Emergency where yet more rights and freedoms can be stolen away from the People. (And companies like DynCorp can be hired to run domestic prison camps or isolation camps.)4) The government and the pharmaceutical industry both get to position themselves as heroic for apparently attempting to stop the pandemic with vaccines. No matter how many people actually die, Big Pharma will claim many more would have died without the vaccine.5) Those who survive the pandemic (and the vaccine) become immune compromised due to the vaccine, and they later emerge as repeat customers for future medical procedures (cancer, Parkinson’s, etc.).

Of course, this is all just a theory. Some people might even call it a paranoid theory. But I ask them one question: Why does a top U.S. military contractor share ownership of key vaccine patents with the U.S. government’s National Institutes of Health? Merely attempting to explain that will lead you down the path to all kinds of eye-opening information about collusion between government, the pharmaceutical industry and the military-industrial complex. And you know what they all have in common? They’re all promoters of death.But it’s not enough to just kill you; they want to make money while they’re doing it.

Finally, I feel the need to preempt the naive critics who will inevitably post comments to this story like, Corporations and governments would never knowingly harm people for power or profit.Such naivete is almost not worth responding to, but I’ll do it in advance just to be sure: Read your world history. Not only is world history full of examples of governments and corporations knowingly harming people for profit, it could be accurately stated that world history is largely a collection of precisely such things! Read your Noam Chomsky, or Naomi Klein, or Confessions of an Economic Hit Man by John Perkins. Bernanke, Summers and Geithner say that we can’t let the giant banks fail, because – without them – the economy will be starved of credit and we will be plunged into a depression.This isn’t true.Says Who? If we really needed the giant banks, the following top economists and financial experts wouldn’t have said that the economy can only recover if the insolvent too big to fails are broken up:Nobel prize-winning economist Jospeph Stiglitz, MIT economics professor Simon Johnson and Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City President Thomas Hoenig (and see this) The Congressional panel overseeing the bailout The head of the FDIC, Sheila Bair The leading monetary economist and co-author with Milton Friedman of the leading treatise on the Great Depression, Anna Schwartz Economics professor and senior regulator during the S & L crisis, William K. Black Leading economist, Nouriel Roubini Well-known economist, Marc Faber Nobel economist, Ed Prescott Dean and professor of finance and economics at Columbia Business School, and chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers under President George W. Bush, R. Glenn Hubbard, and Professor of entrepreneurship and finance at the Chicago Booth School of Business, Luigi Zingales Economics professor Thomas F. Cooley The above-described leading economists wouldn’t have recommended breaking up the banking giants if they thought that their survival was necessary for an economic recovery. Other lending institutions can step up to the plate to make loans.

Small Banks Can Fill Big Shoes

Fortune pointed out in February that smaller banks are stepping in to fill the lending void left by the giant banks’ current hesitancy to make loans. Indeed, the article points out that the only reason that smaller banks haven’t been able to expand and thrive is that the too-big-to-fails have decreased competition:Growth for the nation’s smaller banks represents a reversal of trends from the last twenty years, when the biggest banks got much bigger and many of the smallest players were gobbled up or driven under…As big banks struggle to find a way forward and rising loan losses threaten to punish poorly run banks of all sizes, smaller but well capitalized institutions have a long-awaited chance to expand.

BusinessWeek noted in January:

As big banks struggle, community banks are stepping in to offer loans and lines of credit to small business owners…At a congressional hearing on small business and the economic recovery earlier this month, economist Paul Merski, of the Independent Community Bankers of America, a Washington (D.C.) trade group, told lawmakers that community banks make 20% of all small-business loans, even though they represent only about 12% of all bank assets. Furthermore, he said that about 50% of all small-business loans under $100,000 are made by community banks…Indeed, for the past two years, small-business lending among community banks has grown at a faster rate than from larger institutions, according to Aite Group, a Boston banking consultancy. Community banks are quickly taking on more market share not only from the top five banks but from some of the regional banks,says Christine Barry, Aite’s research director.They are focusing more attention on small businesses than before. They are seeing revenue opportunities and deploying the right solutions in place to serve these customers.

And Fed Governor Daniel K. Tarullo said in June:

The importance of traditional financial intermediation services, and hence of the smaller banks that typically specialize in providing those services, tends to increase during times of financial stress. Indeed, the crisis has highlighted the important continuing role of community banks…For example, while the number of credit unions has declined by 42 percent since 1989, credit union deposits have more than quadrupled, and credit unions have increased their share of national deposits from 4.7 percent to 8.5 percent. In addition, some credit unions have shifted from the traditional membership based on a common interest to membership that encompasses anyone who lives or works within one or more local banking markets. In the last few years, some credit unions have also moved beyond their traditional focus on consumer services to provide services to small businesses, increasing the extent to which they compete with community banks.

Big Banks Aren’t Really Focusing On the Lending Business Anyway

Since Glass-Steagal (the law saying banks couldn’t use their customer’s deposits to make speculative investments) was repealed in 1999, the giant banks have made most of their money in trading assets, securities, derivatives and other speculative bets, the banks’ own paper and securities, and in other money-making activities which have nothing to do with traditional depository functions.Now that the economy has crashed, the big banks are making very few loans to consumers or small businesses because they still have trillions in bad derivatives gambling debts to pay off, and so they are only loaning to the biggest players and those who don’t really need credit in the first place. See this and this.So we don’t need these giant gamblers. We don’t need JP Morgan, Citi, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs or Morgan Stanley. What we need are lenders.Small Banks Can Do Things Better Than Giants.The above-described Fortune article also points out that the banking giants are not necessarily more efficient than smaller banks:The largest banks often don’t show the greatest efficiency. This now seems unsurprising given the deep problems that the biggest institutions have faced over the past year.They actually experience diseconomies of scale, Narter wrote of the biggest banks.There are so many large autonomous divisions of the bank that the complexity of connecting them overwhelms the advantage of size.And Governor Tarullo points out some of the benefits of small community banks over the giant banks:

Their business model is based on an important economic explanation of the role of financial intermediaries–to develop and apply expertise that allows a lender to make better judgments about the creditworthiness of potential borrowers than could be made by a potential lender with less information about the borrowers.A small, but growing, body of research suggests that the financial services provided by large banks are less-than-perfect substitutes for those provided by community banks.It is simply not true that we need the mega-banks. In fact, as many top economists and financial analysts have said, the too big to fails are actually stifling competition from smaller lenders and credit unions, and dragging the entire economy down into a black hole.

LONDON - In a report released Monday, precious metals consultancy GFMS, for Societe Generale, looked at the recent rate and volume of gold sales from official sources and concluded that in the first half of the current year the net sales volume was a relatively minuscule 39 tonnes - down a massive 73% year on year. Indeed in the second quarter, GFMS estimates that banks were net buyers of gold after being net sellers in the first quarter.In effect, the majority of these sales came from within the Central Bank Gold Agreement, with its signatories selling some 92 tonnes, but this was offset by net purchases from Central Banks and institutions in other countries which turned out to be net buyers of around 56 tonnes.There were also a few tonnes of sales from banks outside the CBGA. GFMS notes that all these figures may be subject to alteration due to the lag that often exists between Central Bank activity in the gold market taking place and it being identiﬁed.The biggest sellers of gold in the period included France which had announced some time back that it would sell 600 tonnes over the life of the five-year CBGA, which ends on September 26th. France sold some 44 tonnes in the first five months of the year and it is likely, says GFMS, that it would also have sold a little more in June. With a total of 576 tonnes of sales over nearly 5 years under the Agreement up until May that left only a further 24 tonnes to sell June to September.

The second biggest seller was the European Central Bank with 35.5 tonnes.

There are a few Central Banks which still have gold to sell under announced gold sales programmes, but these in total amount to very little, and GFMS reckons that in the second half of 2009 Central Bank sales will remain fairly low at around 100 tonnes which would mean that net ofﬁcial sector sales in 2009 overall, at some 140 tonnes, would be at the lowest level since 1994's trough of 130 tonnes. On the proposed IMF sales of 403.3 tonnes GFMS points out that this still requires a deciding vote by Fund members. While this is not expected to reverse the sales decision, the vote is not expected to take place until the final quarter of the year so it is unlikely that any IMF gold will come on to the market in 2009. And, in any case when it does, the gold is to be sold in an orderly manner, probably within a renewed CBGA which is currently under negotiation. On China, which announced a 454 tonne increase in its gold holdings earlier this year, GFMS expects it to continue to be a net buyer in order to diversify its reserve portfolio away from the dollar. However the consultancy rules out any direct, large scale purchases on the open market as these would, the report states not only have a profound impact on the gold market but would also potentially place the value of its US dollar holdings under extreme pressure and, to put it mildly, complicate the country's relations with the United States, its largest trading partner.Thus instead of more visible and highly sensitive transactions in the international market, we may see further discreet and relatively modest ofﬁcial purchases in the local gold market.Overall, GFMS concludes that the official sector will remain an important focus for the market particularly given changing attitudes towards gold in a monetary context and global pressure for a fundamental change to the international financial system.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner issued a stern warning punctuated with expletives to U.S. regulators to end turf battles and show support for President Barack Obama's plan to overhaul financial regulation, a person familiar with the situation said on Monday.At a tense, hour-long meeting on Friday, Geithner told Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Mary Schapiro and Federal Deposit Insurance Corp Chairman Sheila Bair to end recent public criticism of the plan and stop airing concerns over their potential loss of authority.The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the meeting, said that Geithner vented frustration over the plan's slow progress and told regulators that enough is enough.Citing people familiar with the meeting, the newspaper also said that the Treasury Secretary used obscenities and took an aggressive stance in his dressing down of the regulators.A Treasury Department spokesman, Andrew Williams, said Geithner was resolute in his message.We planned this meeting as a venue to deliver a tough message to regulators that we should work together to get reform done - and focus less on protecting turf.Williams said.Spokespersons for the Fed, the SEC and the FDIC did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

Obama in June unveiled a financial regulatory overhaul, sometimes called the biggest since the 1930s. Among other things, the plan would give the Fed added powers, award the government more power to break up troubled companies, and create a new agency to oversee consumer finance.Many major banks and industry trade groups however have criticized the plan, as have some regulators wary that any redistribution of power would reduce their own. Even though the regulators are viewed as independent of the White House, the Journal said Geithner told attendees that the administration and Congress set policy.It also said the Treasury Secretary, without singling out officials, raised concerns about regulators who have questioned the wisdom of giving the Fed more power.Schapiro and Bair have argued that more authority should be shared among a council of regulators.

What in the hell is going on? Have most all in this country lost their minds and their spirit, or concerning freedom, is apathy all that remains? Oh to be a conspiracy theorist! Everything today in actuality is conspiratorial, and those who have been continuously demoralized for their constant suspicions of government are now the only sane ones left. This is evident because 1984 is no longer fiction; it is reality! The latest crime in a long line of usurpations of liberty by government evildoers has now effectively eliminated privacy as we know it. As reported on LRC and told by Glenn Beck, anyone accessing the cash for clunkers program literally gives up ownership of their computer to the federal government. Before you say or even think anything, please understand that I fully realize that no real libertarian would ever take government cash in the form of welfare. You might say that those taking taxpayer cash for a car deserve to be monitored for participating in this government redistribution scheme, but you may want to think before you speak. If government can get into their computers, it can just as easily get into yours. This invasion is only the tip of the iceberg. All should be alarmed and all should be wary of current events. The government has become so brazen that it fears not any citizen outrage or exposure over its stealing of rights. The actions of government are exposed and openly discussed, but few it seems take heed.

When logged into the CARS system, your computer is considered a Federal computer system, and is the property of the U.S. Government. Any or all uses of this system and all files on this system may be intercepted, monitored, recorded, copied, audited, inspected, and disclosed to authorized CARS, DOT and law enforcement personnel, as well as authorized officials of other agencies, both domestic and foreign.(Emphasis mine)Yes, you read that right. The government now claims to own your computer, and every single file and every single piece of information on your computer. Not only does government now own it, but it can use that information to harm and arrest you, to share your private information with anyone or any entity it chooses, including the police state enforcers, and at any time. In addition, once the government is inside, it never leaves! This is done by the way, without any probable cause and no warrant is ever issued.Many will say, as is always the case,Well, this doesn’t apply to me, because I’m not getting any cash for clunkers.Ah contraire! I am continually amazed at the gullibility of the masses, and this is why I think that conspiracy nuts and government watchdogs are the brightest among us and the ones always prepared for the inevitable fall. I wish there were many more people who were as skeptical of government.

Now let’s get to the meat of it! This tyrannical and fascist federal government can do virtually anything it wants to, and at any time, and will do so under the guise of legality.Yes, in today’s world, everything the government does to us and against us is claimed to be legal. That is because it is the law.Once law became positive instead of negative, freedom took a proverbial back seat. Oh, if only freedom today could still be in the back seat, instead of locked away in the trunk. As Frederic Bastiat said; Law is force. This has never been more evident than it is today. This is obviously not a force for good (actually no such force exists) but a force used to advance the immoral and evil police state. My God, what have we allowed to happen?
To examine just a handful of adverse consequences due to recent events should help us all to understand the implications of our complacency. If government can take over, monitor and consume everything on your computer if you access the CARS site, then it stands to reason that government probably is already or has the capability to get inside all private computer systems. What if you have a phone line linked through your computer such as Vonage, Skype, etc.? We all know that our phones have been tapped and monitored for some time. So doesn’t it stand to reason that if the government wants on your computer and only has to access a phone line to do so, it will? What if you have visited any government website? Doesn’t it also stand to reason that if the government can access any computer that logs on to the cash for clunkers site, it can do the same with any government site via tracking cookies, etc.? And how many sites are government-controlled? Every time I check river water levels for fishing conditions, I’m on a government site. Every time I check the weather on NOAA; every time I check government unemployment, spending, and deficit numbers; every time I check current legislation pending in congress, and on and on, I am linked to a government computer. Given what is going on with the CARS site, couldn’t my computer be compromised in any of these situations?

Many, many more examples exist and many more are unknown. In other words, everything we do is watched, monitored, and data-based; our privacy invaded and our natural rights trampled.The military industrial complex is now also a domestic police force; ready, willing and able to do the bidding of Leviathan. It can and will be used to stop civil unrest, to force mandatory vaccinations, to imprison those willing to stand their ground, to disarm and evacuate by force citizens from their homes, and to uphold Martial Law if ordered to do so. In addition, most every domestic police force is now militarized.The elite in our society, along with the powerbrokers in politics will be protected from this scourge, but the rest of us will suffer the consequences of our lost freedom. As is continually uttered by the conservative crowd, Freedom is not free,but no armed government agent in the military industrial complex has or ever will protect our freedom; quite the contrary. Only we as individuals can retain and save our liberty.

Many brutal political leaders of the past like Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Mussolini attempted to monitor and control all citizens and their behavior. The end results were telling, and they were horrible. Mass murder at the hands of the state was the rule not the exception. Starvation was prevalent and sickness was constant. Wars consumed production and economies collapsed. Freedom was unheard of during the reign of these monsters. Can you imagine the political and monitoring capabilities of today being available to those brutal tyrants of the past? There is a reason that the U.S. federal government has taken over and co-opted all the means of society. This same government now controls and monitors all money, banking, transportation, health care, police, and communication, including the internet. Those dictators I mentioned above did not have this capability, and still mass oppression won the day. If this history is any guide, our future looks bleak.All power and control lies in the hands of the few who claim to represent us. They are collectively the autocratic federal government. Life’s lessons tell us that those who have the power make the rules. Any who believe that these rules will benefit life, liberty and property are fools, and are doomed to the inevitable and disastrous repeat of history. The power possessed by these current tyrants will not be reined in by change as the political process is forever flawed. No, this power must be eliminated!
