Powerful 7.7 magnitude quake hits off Indonesian coast-Initial reports indicated there was damage to homes and public facilities-The Associated Press · Posted: Aug 14, 2026 7:45 PM EDT | Last Updated: 6 hours ago

A powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia early Saturday, damaging buildings and homes, and triggering a tsunami warning. Authorities urged people on affected coastlines to move to higher ground. The U.S Geological Survey said the quake hit Indonesia's Flores region with a depth of 10 kilometers at 5:58 a.m. Indonesia time. Its epicentre was 68 kilometres north-northwest of the city of Ende in East Nusa Tenggara province. The initial quake was followed by several aftershocks. There were no immediate reports of casualties.Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency issued a tsunami warning for part of East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi provinces, and urged residents to stay away from beaches and riverbanks. The agency located the shallow undersea quake near Flores island.Residents along affected coastlines were advised to move to higher ground as officials are closely monitoring coastal tide gauges for any changes. The quake was felt across much of Flores island. Initial reports indicated there was damage to homes and public facilities, though officials had not yet released estimates of the number of damaged buildings or any casualties.Yohanna Embu, a resident of Sikka, a regency within East Nusa Tenggara province, said a number of buildings were damaged by the strong shaking and panicked people ran to higher ground."Many buildings here were damaged ... I saw that the waiting room at the port terminal in Maumere had collapsed," she said.Students at St. Peter Major Seminary in Sikka who were attending morning Mass fled in panic when the roof of an assembly hall collapsed, said the Rev. Guidelbertus Tanga, rector of the seminary, which is known locally as Ritapiret Seminary on the predominantly Catholic island of Flores."Our students and nuns ran out in panic beneath a collapsing roof," Tanga said, "At least one priest suffered a broken leg after jumping from the second floor of a building during the quake."Indonesia, a vast archipelago of more than 17,000 islands, is prone to earthquakes and volcanic activity because of its location on the "Ring of Fire," an arc of volcanoes and fault lines in the Pacific Basin. In December of 1992, a magnitude 7 earthquake caused a tsunami that killed about 2,500 people on the southeastern island of Flores, part of a group of islands in the eastern half of Indonesia.CBC's Journalistic Standards and Practices·About CBC News

Magnitude 7.7 Quake Strikes Off Indonesia's Coast, Toppling Buildings and Killing at Least 20-Asharq Al Awsat-08:07-15 August 2026 AD ـ 02 Rabi’ Al-Awwal 1448 AH

A powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia early Saturday, killing at least 20 people, collapsing buildings and homes as well as causing panic in a region prone to deadly quakes. Authorities said six people were injured, and two others were missing after a landslide triggered by the quake.Authorities issued a tsunami warning and urged coastal residents to move to higher ground, but later lifted the warning when Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said monitoring showed no significant sea-level changes that would pose a threat to coastal communities. The US Geological Survey said the quake hit Indonesia's Flores region with a depth of 10 kilometers at 5:58 a.m. local time. Its epicenter was 68 km (42 miles) north-northwest of the city of Ende in East Nusa Tenggara province. The initial quake was followed by several aftershocks. The head of the Maumere Search and Rescue Agency, Fathur Rahman, said rescuers have recovered at least 20 bodies in the three devastated regencies of Sikka, West Manggarai, and East Manggarai, including eight bodies that were pulled from a landslide in the village of Reok in Manggarai. Six people were rushed to nearby hospitals with severe injuries. He said rescuers were still searching for two villagers believed to be buried under tons of mud that tumbled down from the surrounding hills in a landslide triggered by the quake, The Associated Press reported.East Nusa Tenggara Police Chief Rudi Darmoko said the earthquake caused severe damage and collapsed buildings. He said power outages in cities and villages have hampered the flow of information and complicated search and rescue efforts.“We are continuing to collect reports of damage and casualties, but there are communication disruptions,” Darmoko said. He said that landslides in Ende regency triggered by the earthquake also cut off the Trans-Flores highway, a roughly 700-kilometer (435-mile) paved mountain road spanning Flores Island, from Labuan Bajo to Larantuka.Footage on local television showed patients at several hospitals being evacuated from buildings as a precaution following the quake. Hospital staff moved equipment outdoors, including beds, IV stands and oxygen cylinders, and set up temporary treatment areas to adapt to emergency conditions. The National Disaster Management Agency deployed a helicopter to assist with logistics and support emergency response operations, including possible evacuations if needed, the agency said in a statement. The air support is considered crucial given East Nusa Tenggara’s geography, which consists of numerous islands and presents significant transportation and access challenges. It said about 2,000 villagers in Nagekeo regency fled their homes to temporary shelters. The quake was felt across much of Flores island with initial reports indicating heavy damage.Yohanna Embu, a resident of Sikka regency, said a number of buildings were damaged by the strong shaking and panicked people ran to higher ground.“Many buildings here were damaged ... I saw that the waiting room at the port terminal in Maumere had collapsed,” she said. The quake also reportedly caused panic in Labuan Bajo, a gateway town to eastern Indonesia’s Komodo National Park, one of the country’s best-known attractions.Damage was also reported in Bima, a city in neighboring West Nusa Tenggara province, and in some parts of southern Sulawesi island.Indonesian authorities initially issued a tsunami warning for parts of East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi provinces, and urged residents to stay away from beaches and riverbanks. The agency located the shallow undersea quake near Flores island.Indonesia prone to earthquakes Indonesia, a vast archipelago of more than 17,000 islands, is prone to earthquakes and volcanic activity because of its location on the “Ring of Fire,” an arc of volcanoes and fault lines in the Pacific Basin.

More than 160 people killed in Colombia’s strongest earthquake in years-The 7.4-magnitude earthquake, which hit about 250 miles west of Bogotá, caused serious damage to infrastructure and left people trapped in collapsed buildings.Aug. 10, 2026, 9:32 AM EDT / Updated Aug. 11, 2026, 10:47 AM EDT-By Nicole Acevedo, Maya Rosenberg, George Solis and Dennis Romero

At least 169 people were killed Monday in a 7.4-magnitude earthquake that shook western Colombia, collapsing hospitals, schools and other buildings and leaving people trapped under the rubble. The worst-hit cities include Pereira, Cali, Quibdó, Manizales and Armenia, all of which remain under “red alert,” the nation’s highest-level disaster threat level, according to Colombia’s nonprofit Association of Capital Cities, which provided the death toll.Seven airports have suspended operations, and hospitals, roads, transportation, aqueducts, energy and telecommunications have been disrupted in the areas hardest hit, it said.Colombia’s newly inaugurated president, Abelardo De La Espriella, said in a national briefing that 700 people were injured in the temblor and an estimated 5,000 homes were damaged or destroyed.Earlier in the day, he declared a national disaster to allow for the mobilization and coordination of emergency efforts.Speaking from the Unified Command Center he had ordered into existence earlier in the day, De La Espriella said 188 people were missing, three hospitals had collapsed, and 18 other hospitals had been affected. Thirty-nine schools were also affected, he said.Elected officials have reported people trapped inside collapsed buildings and serious structural damage throughout the quake-hit region. The quake’s epicenter was reported in the municipality of San José del Palmar in the department of Chocó. Colombia’s Geological Service said it was the country’s strongest earthquake this century, Reuters reported. In Valle del Cauca, about 254 miles south of Chocó, Gov. Dilian Francisca Toro said “the situation is serious.”She reported the deaths of 27 people across Valle del Cauca, including three children. Speaking from the University Hospital of the Valley, Toro said the facility suffered “structural collapses” and that rescue and evacuation operations were completed Monday.Video from the location verified by NBC News shows medical staff in white tending to infants in hospital bassinets outdoors. At least one medical professional was shown holding a baby in her arms.In Chocó, Gov. Nubia Carolina Córdoba-Curi said on social media that injuries and serious damage to buildings had been reported in the capital city of Quibdó, about 188 miles northwest of the reported epicenter.“We are already conducting a damage assessment to issue the first official report,” Córdoba-Curi wrote on X in Spanish. As of Monday night, Córdoba-Curi reported 13 deaths in Chocó. Earlier, she said 84 people had been injured. In Pereira, a city in Colombia’s coffee-growing region, Mayor Mauricio Salazar said 18 people had died. In nearby Manizales, Mayor Jorge Eduardo Rojas said two people were killed.Alejandro Eder, the mayor of Cali, said that at least 20 buildings had collapsed in the city and some had “people trapped inside.” Emergency response teams have set up tents in the area to coordinate rescue efforts, Eder added.Sunday was the beginning of a weeklong festival celebrating the region’s Afro-Pacific culture, which brings hundreds of thousands of tourists to Cali, Colombia’s third-largest city.Cali resident Luis Angel Sarria told NBC News he strongly felt the earthquake there.“There are many damaged buildings, collapsed buildings, people trapped and fatalities; the quake felt here was very severe,” Sarria, a taxi driver, said in Spanish. “What has happened here in my country has been very hard and very sad.”While Sarria and his immediate family are safe, he said, “We are saddened by the loss of life.”In Cali, rescue teams and volunteers began clearing rubble as they searched for survivors trapped beneath some of the collapsed buildings. In Jamundí, about 15 miles south of Cali, Maria Alejandra Soto Zea was inside her apartment with her 2-year-old son when she felt the earthquake. Its intensity grew quickly, she said, leaving her unable to quickly evacuate her home.As she sought the exit, Soto Zea said, the shaking was so intense that she made it only to the kitchen. There, she held on to the kitchen counter with all her strength while also carrying her toddler, she told NBC News in Spanish.“Right now, I have back pain from the stress of the moment, from shouting, from gripping the counter so tightly and from the anguish of thinking I wouldn’t be able to get out of here with my son,” Soto Zea said. When the trembling subsided, the 27-year-old mother took the stairs seven stories down with her young child in her arms and evacuated the building. Worried about aftershocks, she began packing a few bags on Monday afternoon to stay with relatives elsewhere. The Trump administration is committing $15.5 million to Colombia for emergency shelter, food, protection and other needs, the State Department said Monday on X.It said the U.S. is ready to support De La Espriella and his government as they assess the country’s needs. “We are united in prayer with the Colombian people,” the State Department said. The International Rescue Committee, a global nonprofit group focused on providing aid during humanitarian crises, said in a statement that its staff near Chocó was reporting damage to hospitals and clinics.“Local communities were already facing armed conflict and high levels of poverty long before the ground began to shake. Chocó, at the epicenter of the quake, is the poorest region in the country,” said Nicole Kast, the organization’s director for Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador. “We are deeply concerned that today’s natural disaster will make the needs on the ground even steeper as people lose access to health care and other essential services.”According to Colombia’s civil aviation authority, airports in Cali, Pereira, Manizales, Quibdó, Armenia, Cartago and Buenaventura were affected in some way by the temblor, including by electricity outages. Flights at these airports have been suspended “pending an assessment of structural damage to the facilities,” it said.Later, it said Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport between Palmira and Cali was operational following restoration of electricity.José Gallegos was inside the airport in Pereira when the earthquake hit. In videos posted to his Instagram account, Gallegos can be seen hiding underneath a table as plumes of dust burst in the air and parts of the ceiling crashed into the ground.“Everything fell apart in a second,” Gallegos, an influencer, told Noticias Telemundo Ahora in Spanish. He was recording a live video when disaster struck.Gallegos described seeing walls collapsing, trapping people underneath. “At that moment, I thought I was going to die,” he said.Halley Sherwood, who lives in the city of Armenia along with her husband, said in a phone interview that some buildings collapsed and many more appear to have intense damage.Water and Wi-Fi were cut off before returning within a few hours, she said.“As of right now everyone is outside their homes waiting,” Sherwood said. “We were told there could be aftershocks.”The damage in Armenia, part of the country’s coffee-growing region, has brought back painful memories for residents of a 6.1-magnitude earthquake that rocked the area in 1999, causing nearly 1,200 deaths and leaving an estimated 250,000 homeless, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.“My husband and his family are all shook up, because last time it was really bad,” Sherwood said.Less than an hour after the initial earthquake, an aftershock measured at magnitude 5.0 struck about 10 miles west of San José del Palmar, according to the USGS. It was not immediately clear whether it caused damage or hampered rescue efforts. The earthquake follows two back-to-back 7.2- and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes in Venezuela in late June that killed more than 6,000 people.Soto Zea said that surviving Monday’s earthquake in Colombia after witnessing the devastation left behind in nearby Venezuela has left her feeling very nervous.“It’s very overwhelming,” she said. “This shakes up your life because it leaves you thinking about how fragile life is.”

Spain removes remains of 11th century kings from monastery as Europe’s wildfires spread-Weeks without rain revealed the remains of an ancient bridge in Rome’s Tiber River, as multiple European countries battle to contain spreading fires in hot and dry conditions.Aug. 14, 2026, 9:08 AM EDT / Source: Reuters-By Reuters and The Associated Press

Spanish authorities on Thursday removed the remains of three kings who ruled the Aragón region in the 11th century from a monastery threatened by a wildfire.Their remains ‌were taken to the provincial museum of Huesca, located 50 miles south of the monastery, for their protection until conditions improve, said the northeastern region’s vice-president Mar Vaquero. After the wildfire that had been raging since Monday began moving toward the 10th century San Juan de la Peña monastery late on Thursday, concern that it could be engulfed by flames prompted authorities to launch a rescue operation, Vaquero told reporters. An emergency military unit team managed to enter the monastery, located in a mountain range, and take ceremonial clothing belonging to an 18th-century count buried there, before the proximity of the flames forced them to flee. The team returned a second ‌time, accompanied by police officers and heritage officials, and removed the remains of the first three kings of Aragón — who ruled between 1035 and 1104 — from a pantheon within the monastery, as well as some historical paintings. The wildfire had intensified earlier on Thursday, fuelled by higher temperatures and strong winds. It has burned more than 3.5 square miles and forced the evacuation of 16 towns, although the monastery remained unharmed on Friday morning.Evacuations as wildfires spread-As large parts of Europe battle fires after a long stretch of hot and dry conditions, a raging wildfire in the province of Huelva, southern Spain, triggered an operation to evacuate around 700 people on Thursday.More than 2,000 people evacuated the village of Gey in western Germany on Friday after a ‌wildfire near the Belgian border, while France evacuated 525 people from the village of Luglon in its southwestern Landes region.Meanwhile, Croatia and Greece both evacuated tourists from resorts as fires spread. Flames enveloped settlements and trees around Omis, a scenic town on Croatia’s prized Dalmatian coast surrounded by trees and rocky hills, officials said, injuring 40 and forcing 1,200 to evacuate.More than 300 people were evacuated by boat from Siviri in northern Greece, south of the country’s second city, Thessaloniki.People wearing face masks, some clutching children or pets, boarded dinghies and boats in the seaside town as a wildfire ate through the nearby forest and columns of smoke turned the cloudless sky a dark grey.Nero’s Bridge emerges-The remains of an ancient bridge have emerged in Rome’s Tiber River, near St. Peter’s Basilica, after weeks with virtually no rain caused water levels to plunge. The bridge — known as Nero’s Bridge, named for the former Roman emperor — once connected Rome’s city center with the Tiber’s right bank.“Nero is the most famous person linked to this area, because precisely in Nero’s circus, where the Vatican is now located, the Apostle Peter was martyred,” said Antonella Bonini, an archaeologist at Rome’s cultural heritage superintendency.“However, scholars consider the bridge to be older (than Nero’s era) — built by Caligula, Nero’s uncle,” she said, adding that it existed as early as 39 AD.The Tiber’s flow has fallen below 80 cubic meters (2,825 cubic feet) per second, about half the historic average for the month of July, according to Giovanni Giganti, coordinator of the Rome civil protection service’s center for water management.“We are facing a major water crisis. And it is a crisis that is also due to the fact that this winter we did have quite abundant rainfall, but then the dry periods ... were quite long,” Giganti said.

Smoke description-NOAA provides narrative description of smoke and dust, reported here as it appears on its website.SMOKE:Canada - Wildfires in the Northwest Territories continued to burn this evening, producing a regional layer of moderate-to-heavy density smoke. The smoke drifted east across much of Canada before turning northeast through Quebec and eventually moving off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. Wildfires in southern British Columbia produced moderate-to-heavy density smoke plumes that joined with the fires in the Pacific Northwest of CONUS. A layer of light-density smoke extended across much of Canada, drifting east from the Northwest Territories before moving south into eastern CONUS and eastward over the Atlantic Ocean. Additional light-density smoke originating from the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia also contributed to the overall light smoke coverage.CONUS/Atlantic Ocean - Wildfires across the Pacific Northwest continued to produce moderate density smoke across the region this evening. The smoke drifted southward into northern California and north into British Columbia. A fire in Throckmorton County, Texas began burning this evening, producing moderate-to-heavy smoke that drifted north into southern Oklahoma. Light smoke over the fires in the southeast merged with the smoke from Canada that moved eastward into the Atlantic Ocean.Mexico/Gulf of America/Pacific Ocean - Light-density smoke was observed over along the Mexican Gulf Coast, Central Mexico, and the Gulf of America, some of which drifted southwestward across southern Mexico into the Pacific Ocean. A region layer of moderate-density smoke was also observed in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec before extending southwestward into the Pacific Ocean.Source: NOAA

European countries battle multiple wildfires as record heat grips the continent-By  ANGELA CHARLTON and SYLVIA HUI-Updated 9:47 AM EDT, August 14, 2026

PARIS (AP) — Firefighters across Europe struggled against multiple fires Friday as a new wave of record-breaking heat baked a swath of the continent, their task further complicated by exceptionally parched landscapes. The historic temperatures are linked to human-caused climate change, and are hitting countries more used to long cold seasons and ill-equipped for this sort of heat, with limited air conditioning. With France experiencing its driest year ever, a new fire raced through woodlands overnight in the Landes region on the southwest coast. The blaze forced more than 500 people to evacuate their homes in the town of Luglon as hundreds of firefighters deployed to the area, the regional administration said Friday. It’s one of several fires scorching forests around France this week, including in normally cooler and wetter regions in the north and Brittany. A historic fire devoured forests near Bordeaux last month and pushed a quarter of a million people from their homes.France also has shut down six nuclear reactors in recent days because of extreme heat and drought — and because a mass of jellyfish washed up outside one power plant on the English Channel coast, utility company EDF said. Large numbers of jellyfish are appearing on many French beaches in connection with unusually warm sea temperatures. In a statement, the company said the shutdowns had minimal impact on France’s electricity production. It said extreme weather poses no safety risks to the reactors themselves.UK wildfires come as London records its hottest day of the year-In the central English town of Stourbridge, where a huge blaze started Thursday, TV footage showed the fires consuming houses, with many left without roofs as flames burned inside the charred walls. About 20 to 30 homes were completely destroyed, Stourbridge lawmaker Cat Eccles told the BBC.A woman who was evacuated from her Stourbridge home said police knocked on her door and urged her to leave immediately.“They thought the fire was changing directions, and they didn’t know which direction it was going in,” Jane Baxter told BBC Radio. “So, it was literally ‘grab what you need and get out.’”Simon Tuhill, chief fire officer of West Midlands Fire Service, said an investigation will be launched but the fire was believed to have started in the grassland before spreading to homes nearby.Nineteen people and six firefighters were hospitalized for smoke inhalation and other injuries from multiple wildfires in the West Midlands region. In nearby Stoke-on-Trent, a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were arrested Friday on suspicion of arson over a large grass fire that spread quickly. The Met Office, the official weather agency, said 38.1C (100.6 F) was recorded in west London on Thursday, marking the hottest day of the year. While temperatures cooled slightly on Friday, many parts of the country have seen little to no rain for weeks. This July has been the driest in England and Wales since records began in 1836.Spanish authorities on Thursday night transferred the remains of three 11th Century kings from a monastery in the northeastern Aragón region near an active wildfire. The remains were taken to a museum about 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of the 10th-century San Juan de la Peña monastery, which remained unharmed Friday, according to regional authorities.Paintings, liturgical objects and the clothes of a notable 18th-century Spanish count were among the other items removed from the monastery. The wildfire was not yet contained midday Friday with some 800 residents evacuated. Temperatures were expected to cool slightly Saturday.A separate, much larger wildfire in southern Spain has burned more than 300 square kilometers (120 square miles) in the province of Huelva, also forcing evacuations.Firefighters battle forest fire in Germany-All 1,800 residents of the village of Gey in western Germany were evacuated after a wildfire with shifting winds in the nearby Hürtgen forest threatened to reach their homes. Nearly 300 hectares (1.16 square miles) of forest were ablaze on Friday morning, local authorities said.Unexploded ordnance from World War II in the forest hampered firefighting efforts, German news agency dpa reported. The fire advanced to within 300 meters (1,000 feet) of Gey, which sits on the edge of the forest near the Belgian border. The cause of the blaze remains unknown.Germany has set a new record for heat-related deaths so far this year, surpassing the 2018 level for the entire year, the Robert Koch Institute said Thursday. An estimated 12,500 people died from heat-related causes between Jan. 1 and Aug. 2.Fire in Croatia leaves 1 dead, 14 hospitalized-In Croatia, one person was killed and 14 people were hospitalized, of whom seven remained in life-threatening condition early Friday, from a fire that raged overnight by the coastal town of Omis and forced more than 1,000 people to evacuate their homes. The person’s body was found as police combed through the burned-out area. The fire erupted late Thursday in an Omis suburb and quickly spread because of strong wind. The regional maritime authorities said 194 people, including children, were plucked from the sea and from various boats as they tried to flee the fire.Firefighters put out the blaze by Friday morning as other crews in planes headed further south toward the Peljesac peninsula, where another wildfire broke out overnight.Firefighters keep Albania’s largest wildfire from spreading to homesAlbania has been battling dozens of wildfires in recent weeks, with 11 active fires reported across the country Friday. The largest fire is in the Gure-Lure area, where the perimeter near residential homes has been brought under control.Three people have been prosecuted over that fire, which engulfed Lura National Park. They are suspected of failing to take measures to protect the territory from fire, authorities said.Meanwhile, in northern Greece, more than 300 vacationers and residents were evacuated by sea Thursday after a wildfire swept through a pine forest and threatened seaside homes, authorities said.Belgium expected to set another heat record-Belgium was expecting to hit its highest temperature of the summer on Friday, climbing to 37 C (98.6 F) in the capital, Brussels. The mercury was also set to hit 37 C (98.6 F) in the neighboring Netherlands. The country is suffering from severe drought, with water shortages in some areas, but Dutch authorities have held off declaring a water crisis as rain is expected in the coming days.___Hui reported from London. Canadian wildfire that forced 20,000 to flee may signal ‘new normal’Updated 2:46 AM EDT, August 13, 2026

PENTICTON, British Columbia (AP) — A wildfire that forced more than 20,000 people from their homes in western Canada moved so quickly that crews had to abandon firefighting to help residents escape, a pace British Columbia’s premier said Wednesday may represent a “new normal.”The Bald Range wildfire erupted Friday near Summerland, a community of about 12,000 in British Columbia’s Okanagan region. By Wednesday, it had grown to about 184 square kilometers (71 square miles) after destroying homes and killing an 80-year-old woman.“There’s an important set of lessons for us to take about how quickly this moved and that this may be our new normal for fire speed,” Premier David Eby said. He said the blaze outpaced wildfire modeling and left some residents with little time to evacuate.Officials have begun damage assessments, but the area remained unsafe Wednesday and there was no timeline for residents to return.Crews were clearing vegetation to help slow the fire’s spread as officials warned that thunderstorms could bring erratic winds and increase fire activity. Highway 97, a major route through the area, remained closed.Eby visited an evacuation reception center in Penticton, where he said he met people devastated by the loss of their homes.“A lot of emotions in there, obviously,” he told reporters, calling the woman’s death a “tragic loss.”Summerland pharmacist Jonathan Kiesman said he was worried about displaced patients getting their medications and said seeing the fire approach the community “almost brought tears to my eyes.”Officials said they were withholding broader details on property losses until residents could be notified directly.“The last thing that I would want is somebody to have the shock of finding out on social media or on television about their home being lost,” British Columbia Emergency Management Minister Kelly Greene said.Eby said the province would review the response, including whether changes are needed to wildfire planning, building standards and vegetation management near communities.Given the drought and summer heat, he warned, “this is very unlikely to be the last significant fire we see this summer.”Summerland Mayor Doug Holmes warned that recovery would be long and difficult.Canada has endured a series of severe wildfire seasons in recent years, with smoke repeatedly drifting into the United States. In record-setting 2023, fires burned more than 14.6 million hectares (36 million acres), an area roughly the size of Illinois.Canada has warmed faster than the global average in recent decades, while the amount of land burned by wildfires has increased substantially. Much of the country’s forest is remote and dominated by spruce and pine, conditions that can make fires difficult to contain once they become established.

A Canadian payment giant is being sold to U.S. private equity. Is your digital privacy at risk? Moneris handles roughly 1 in 3 payment transactions across Canada-Brock Wilson · CBC News · Posted: Aug 14, 2026 4:00 AM EDT | Last Updated: August 14

A payment processing company responsible for approximately one in three payment transactions across Canada will soon be owned by an American private equity firm. The Royal Bank of Canada and Bank of Montreal announced earlier this week they would be selling jointly owned Moneris, one of Canada's largest commerce solutions providers, to Francisco Partners for $2 billion. So far, it's been positive for both RBC and BMO, with the companies' shares jumping after the deal's announcement. RBC expects to gain about $475 million from the sale after tax, and BMO $600 million. However, some industry analysts are raising concerns the move could have negative repercussions for Canada's digital sovereignty amid the country's ongoing trade war with the U.S.Wide-reaching implications-Broadly speaking, digital sovereignty refers to the power of a country, or individual, to retain control over its own digital assets. In September, AI Minister Evan Solomon said that Canada needs to create a sovereign digital economy that is "free from coercion."Artificial Intelligence Minister Evan Solomon says the Protecting Privacy and Consumer Data Act will help keep Canadians safe in the digital age. 'I think it's a common-sense approach to what Canadians and what average folks want from their digital media,' Solomon said on Monday about the new bill. 'They want some control over their personal information.'That same month, dozens of experts and academics penned an open letter urging Prime Minister Mark Carney to swiftly "defend Canada's digital sovereignty" and protect the country from the whims of the Trump administration. It's a sentiment Sharon Polsky, president of the Privacy and Access Council of Canada, shares."Canadians should be concerned because this is their information," she said."We're now going to have what has been a Canadian data-processing company that has access to everybody's purchasing habits ... available to other governments."Thousands of businesses in Canada use Moneris. The processor services more than 325,000 points of commerce and processes more than five billion transactions every year, according to a press release from the company.Polsky said the deal means Canadians' data could be available, not only to foreign governments, but foreign law enforcement agencies. She gave an example of U.S. border agents potentially checking an individual's transaction history before allowing them to enter the country."Will you be stopped at the border because your purchase records indicate that you bought something with THC?" she said, referring to a chemical compound found in cannabis, which remains illegal in the U.S. under federal jurisdiction."It's possible these days, much more possible than ever before."Transaction data as leverage? That the deal is happening as the countries grapple with a trade war only heightens Polsky's concerns."It's easy to foresee that the rich data that comes from millions of Canadians' purchases could easily be leveraged to inform trade negotiations," said Polsky, who has advised corporations and governments for more than 30 years on privacy and access matters.Colin Deacon, an Independent Canadian senator, is also concerned about how the U.S. government could use Canadians' data."[Data] under force and under request from the U.S. government could be then shared on an individual basis," said Deacon during an interview with CBC's Power and Politics.Nova Scotia Sen. Colin Deacon is warning against further financial integration with the United States after one of Canada's biggest payment processing platforms was bought by an American bidder. Deacon joins Power & Politics to discuss why he is so concerned about this acquisition."There's a number of ways in which [U.S. President Donald Trump] has absolute control over services that Canadians rely on every day."Both BMO and RBC pointed to press releases announcing the deal, refusing to provide further comment when contacted by CBC News."As ownership transitions to FP, Moneris's commitment to serving Canadian businesses will remain unchanged," read a separate press release from Moneris.Privacy legislation in the works-Canada's legislation meant to protect digital privacy isn't where it needs to be, according to Polsky, who said this comes at Canadians' "collective peril.""Canada isn't ready," she said.Polsky argues there's a clear outcome if a company based in Canada is compelled by the U.S. to supply data as a result of this deal."If the choice is either to comply with the American law or go to jail, or comply with Canadian legislation that really is nowhere near as stringent … it's a no-brainer. They will comply with the American legislation."The Canadian government has taken steps to address digital sovereignty. In June, the government introduced Bill C-36, the Protecting Privacy and Consumer Data Act.It proposes a major overhaul of Canada's private sector privacy framework, updating language to establish privacy as a "fundamental right" and replace parts of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), which sets out rules for how businesses, including tech, airlines and banks, collect and use customers' data. The bill also requires companies to conduct a "privacy impact assessment" before transferring personal data outside of Canada. At the time, government officials said the legislation would cover any company that has a "substantial connection" to Canada. But Polsky said C-36, and the Liberals' other attempts to update Canada's digital privacy laws, only "dance around the issues.""They don't really speak to data being retained in Canada as a matter of national security or as a matter of data sovereignty," she said.Bill C-36 represents the Liberal government's third attempt to update privacy regulations, following failed attempts in 2020 and 2023. It underwent its first reading in June, but has a number of steps to go before becoming law.Meanwhile, the sale of Moneris still requires regulatory approvals, including clearance under the Competition Act, and is expected to close by the end of the banks' fiscal first quarter in 2027.Where does that leave Canada? "Behind the eight ball," said Polsky."[Canada is] trying to look tough, but we have a ways to go."Clarifications-An earlier version of this story said Moneris processes more than $5 billion in transactions every year. In fact, Moneris processes more than 5 billion transactions every year. Aug 14, 2026 10:41 AM EDT

REVELATION 13:16-18
16 And he(FALSE POPE) causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, (SLAVE) to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:(CHIP IMPLANT)
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.(6-6-6) A NUMBER SYSTEM

I KNOW THIS MARK WILL BE A MICROCHIP IMPLANT UNDER THE SKIN. LETS LOOK UP WHAT THE WORD MARK SAYS IN REVELATION 13:16-18, 14:9,11, 15:2, 16:2, 19:20, 20:4-ALL THESE VERSES FROM THE BOOK OF REVELATION SPEAK OF THIS DICTATORS MARK. NOW LETS SEE WHAT IT MEANS FROM STRONGS EXAUSTIVE CONCORDANCE OF THE BIBLE. UNDER MARK PAGE 684.MARK UNDER MARK. THE OLD TESTAMENT IS UNDER HEBREW AND THE NEW TESTAMENT IS UNDER GREEK. SO WHEN WE LOOK UNDER REVELATION 13:16-17 WE SEE IT IS UNDER GREEK, SO WE GO TO GREEK IN THE BACK SECTION AND GO TO 5480 TO SEE WHAT IT SAYS THIS MARK WOULD BE. SO LETS GET TO IT.MARK IN STRONGS GREEK 5480 XAPAYUA CHARAGMA, KHAR-AG-MAH: FROM THE SAME AS 5482: A SCRATCH OR ETCHING, I.E STAMP (AS A BADGE OF SERVITUDE), OR SCULPTURED FIGURE-(STATUE):-GRAVEN, MARK FROM 5482 XAPAE CHARAX, KHAR-AX; FROM XAPAOOW CHARASSO (TO SHARPEN TO A POINT; AKIN TO 1125 THROUGH THE IDEA OF SCRATCHING); A STAKE, I.E (BYIMPL.) Latinstimulus, etc.; German stechen, English stick, sting, etc.; Curtius, § 226)), a mark pricked in or branded upon the body. According to ancient oriental usage, slaves and soldiers bore the name or stamp of their master or commander branded or pricked (cut) into their bodies to indicate what master or general they belonged to, and there were even some devotees who stamped themselves in this way with the token of their gods (cf. Deyling, Observations, iii., p. 423ff); hence, τά στίγματα τοῦ (κυρίου so Rec.) Ἰησοῦ, the marks of (the Lord) Jesus, which Paul in Galatians 6:17 says he bears branded on his body, are the traces left there by the perils, hardships, imprisonments, scourgings, endured by him for the cause of Christ, and which mark him as Christ's faithful and approved votary, servant, soldier (see Lightfoots Commentary on Galatians, the passage cited). Subdermal microchip implants are tiny electronic devices, usually the size of a grain of rice, injected under the skin (most often in the hand between the thumb and index finger). They use Near Field Communication (NFC) or Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID), require no battery, and function as digital keys, transit passes, or payment wallets. How the Technology WorksNo Battery Needed: The chips stay dormant and only wake up when a scanning device or reader is placed close to them.Simple Injection: A practitioner uses a preloaded syringe to place the biocompatible glass capsule just beneath the top layer of skin.Immediate Use: The passive transponder works instantly once implanted to transmit a unique identification number or encrypted data string.Common UsesAccess Control: Unlocking office doors, home smart locks, and gym memberships.Contactless Payments: Swiping a hand over a terminal to buy items through platforms like Walletmor.Identification and Data: Storing digital business cards, emergency medical details, or transit tickets.Risks and ConcernsPrivacy Issues: Critics worry about tracking data, corporate overreach, or third parties accessing sensitive personal profiles.Security Limits: While current chips only hold short ID strings rather than massive tracking data, legacy standards or cloned signals pose theoretical vulnerabilities.Health and Removal: Rejection or minor tissue irritation can happen, though removal usually requires a simple medical incision if a user wants it extracted. If you're interested, I can explore:The privacy and legal debates around human microchippingHow payment security works without a batteryThe difference between RFID and NFC implants.

Everything You Need To Know Before Getting An RFID Implant-Dr. Bertalan Mesko, PhD-8 min | 3 March 2025

Theoretically, RFID implants offer practical benefits as contactless payments, unlocking doors, and accessing medical data, with just a wave of your hand. However, the implants still face challenges such as safety concerns, potential infections, and limited data capacity.Ethical considerations surrounding privacy, surveillance, and potential discrimination must also be addressed – nevertheless, the idea offers a glimpse into a future where technology seamlessly integrates with our bodies. What if you could open your front door or unlock your car just by raising your hand? Never having to trouble yourself with your medical documents? Or remembering where you’ve put your wallet. What about sending your LinkedIn profile or a dancing monkey GIF to a phone just by holding it? And what about turning on a coffee machine by pointing to it? This is not the future anymore. Wannabe cyborgs with little RFID chips under their skin are living with us: some fifty-thousand people have implanted the tiny devices already under their skin to be able to have simpler access to buildings or (other people’s) phones. Do you want to join the cyborg community? Here’s what you should know about RFID chips before you implant them into your body.Captain Cyborg and the RFID implant-The radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology has been around for decades. It uses radio waves to exchange data between a tag (embedded with an antenna and integrated circuit) and a reader. RFID tags come in various types – passive, active, and semi-passive – and operate on different frequency bands, each with its own strengths and limitations.RFID has a wide range of applications, from tracking luggage and identifying pets to managing inventory in retail stores and even monitoring medical equipment in hospitals. It’s also becoming increasingly prevalent in the Internet of Things (IoT), enabling everyday objects to communicate with each other. You probably already have a personal RFID chip in your credit card, and they are increasingly used for access control, contactless payments, and even social interactions. The first-ever human to receive an RFID microchip implant was British scientist Kevin Warwick (known by the moniker “Captain Cyborg”) in 1998. This experiment allowed a computer to monitor Warwick as he moved through halls and offices of the Department of Cybernetics at the University of Reading, using a unique identifying signal emitted by the implanted chip. He could operate doors, lights, heaters and other computers without lifting a finger. Approximately two decades later, the technology has been made commercially available, and tens of thousands of people decided to implant an RFID chip. For example, groups of people have been meeting at “implant parties,” often organized by larger companies, to hook up. It’s especially popular in Sweden, where more than 4,000 individuals can take pride in opening doors by only lifting their hands. So, why is the rush? And why should you consider implanting one? TMF Cyborg man RFID impant-Congratulations, you’ve been RFID-chipped! In the future, an RFID chip implanted into your hand, between your thumb and your index finger on the back of your hand, could contain a lot of useful information – that you usually carry around in your wallet or purse. It could transmit your identity information as you walk through a security checkpoint, enable you to use public transport, and make long lines at the supermarket checkout a thing of the past. You wouldn’t have to worry about losing your most important documents or your wallet ever again – and ‘within hand’s reach’ will most certainly have a second layer of meaning. Moreover, imagine that in a medical emergency situation, the first responders only have to scan your hand to get to know every valuable bit of medical data about you.We are obviously not there yet. Although the technology has ripened significantly in recent years, even the most advanced chips still have limitations. Modern RFID chips typically store more data than earlier versions, though the increase in capacity has been gradual. However, according to user reviews, they can serve multiple functions. “I use my microchip to store my medical records and work portfolio, as well as to use it as a crypto wallet and to unlock doors” – says Brandon Dalaly about his implant in this article. In theory, you could connect it to your bank account, your transit card for use in the subway, or to pay at the grocery store. The challenge remains that many systems are not yet designed to integrate seamlessly with such implants. However, upgrades to these systems are expected in the near future to support RFID chip functionality. In any case, if you find using entrance cards to access your office outdated, you might convince your boss to order RFID chips from Dangerous Things, an online store that sells various implantable transponders, and the place where most people buy their implants.Dangerous? Hackable? Limiting? – The hazards of RFID chips-Before you hit the order button on Dangerous Things website to order some implants, there are several things to think through as an RFID implant isn’t a temporary tattoo, which can be removed by taking ten showers. That’s actually one of the most problematic parts of these chips: who is going to implant it, how safe it is for your health, and how do you remove it? Medical Concerns-A recent study sheds light on the increasing prevalence and potential complications of RFID implants in humans. It highlights that while these implants are becoming popular for tasks like contactless payments, opening doors, and storing personal information, there are significant safety concerns. The study points out that most implants are currently performed by non-medical professionals, raising the risk of infections and adverse tissue reactions. It calls for more involvement from medical professionals, particularly hand surgeons, to develop standardized techniques for implanting these devices safely and effectively. The study underscores the need for further research to better understand the long-term implications of RFID implants in human health.Dangerous Things recommends their professional body piercing or body modification partners to complete the installation of this product, but definitely someone with experience performing aseptic procedures. Thus, you should NOT experiment with implanting it yourself, and rather turn to a medical professional who conducts the procedure in a clean area with sterilized instruments to avoid the risk of infection. The company says that the pain level of the implantation of the chip is that of a bee sting or giving blood. The same is promised to be true for removing the RFID transponder. Dangerous Things says that the removal or replacement procedure is easy, you don’t have any interference issues with MRI, or get caught at the airport security gates, metal detectors or airport scanners due to your chip. In addition, the implants are pretty durable – you can easily fight supervillains all day long, the RFID chip will most probably not break.Privacy and surveillance worries-Although RFID chips are not powerful enough to be tracked – just as dogs cannot be tracked when they wander off – or to connect to any satellite, some have fears that such chips give corporations the possibility to have control over them. What if they could track users in the future? Would you want a chip in your hand if it could tell for how long it took you to have a shower or to go to work? Since most chips are offered through big companies, it’s just a matter of time until this happens. Are the chip implants hackable? Some biohackers say that it’s very easy to hack an implant, so you’d rather not hide your life secrets in the implant’s memory, but so far, we haven’t heard of major RFID chip hacks. On the other hand, we know of at least one individual who used the chip embedded into his hand to hack into other people’s phones, so that might be a bigger concern. However, another idea that already surfaced among concerned potential users, namely that your hands might be cut off if someone wants to break into your house or office seems to be rather Black Mirror-ish than something to be worried about.TMF cyborg hand RFID implant-Am I really becoming a cyborg? On the other hand, implanted RFID chips, just as digital tattoos or chest patches already represent the second stage of cyborgization, and that’s because no matter what Dangerous Things say, they cannot be removed as easily as your Flash T-shirt at the end of the day. Remember the bug in Neo’s stomach in the Matrix? He couldn’t have taken it out without help – but after some time, no lasting marks remained. In the second stage of augmentation, technology interacts with the human body in a way that it already has a lasting, but not irreversible impact. Although their removal might be problematic, implants, patches, and tattoos could be cut out and discarded. Some extreme examples, where removal might be more difficult than the user believes, already exist: Jerry Javala let doctors embed a USB port into his finger prosthesis, but at the time being, RFID chips seem to be on the easier end of the spectrum. So, if you decide to get an RFID implant, you’ll still be very far from real-life cyborgs, such as Neil Harbisson, an artist born with achromatopsia or extreme colorblindness meaning he could only see in black-and-white. At first, he received his specialised electronic eye, his “eyeborg” to be able to render perceived colors as sounds on the musical scale. He is capable of experiencing colors beyond the scope of normal human perception: Amy Winehouse is red and pink, while ringtones are green.RFID implant chip-All in all, the technology is very promising, although many might find the abilities that an RFID chip can do at the moment rather as geeky party tricks than useful everyday accessories making life easier.

OZONE DEPLETION JUDGEMENT ON THE EARTH DUE TO SIN

ISAIAH 30:26-27
26 Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold,(7X OR 7-DEGREES HOTTER) as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people,(ISRAEL) and healeth the stroke of their wound.
27 Behold, the name of the LORD cometh from far, burning with his anger, and the burden thereof is heavy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire:

MATTHEW 24:21-22,29
21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened,(DAY LIGHT HOURS SHORTENED) there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake (ISRAELS SAKE) those days shall be shortened (Daylight hours shortened)(THE ASTEROID HITS EARTH HERE)

7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.

EZEKIEL 32:6-9
6  I will also water with thy blood the land wherein thou swimmest, even to the mountains; and the rivers shall be full of thee.
7  And when I shall put thee out, I will cover the heaven, and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light.
8  All the bright lights of heaven will I make dark over thee, and set darkness upon thy land, saith the Lord GOD.
9  I will also vex the hearts of many people, when I shall bring thy destruction among the nations, into the countries which thou hast not known.

5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.

THIRD ANGEL: EUROPE
Then one of the angels with wings showed me Europe from one end to the other - from the north all the way down to Spain and Portugal. In his hand he had a scale of measurement. I saw him fly over Europe, and I heard the words: "I am grieved. I am grieved. Unrighteousness, uncleanness, ungodliness - all over Europe. The sin has risen to heaven. The Holy Spirit is grieved."I saw the rivers of Europe flooding and covering millions of houses. Millions drown. After seeing this, I read the news a few weeks ago: Czechoslovakia had the worst flooding ever. I also heard that the big river in China is in tremendous danger of thousands of houses being destroyed in flooding. I didn't know all this news until after I had seen the vision and heard what the angels told me.Suddenly I heard earthquakes all over Europe."Countries that have had no earthquakes shall be shaken," said the angel. And suddenly, in my spirit, I saw the Eiffel Tower in Paris crumbling and falling down. A great part of Germany destroyed. The great city of London - destruction everywhere. I saw floods all over Scandinavia. I looked to the south and saw Spain and Portugal passing through hunger and great destruction. Many will die from hunger all over Spain and Portugal. I was disturbed by all this news, and I said:" Lord, what about your children?"The angel said: "I shall prepare them. They shall be looking for the appearing of the Lord. Many will cry to me in those days and I will save them. I shall perform mighty miracles for them and show them My power."So in the midst of great destruction, there will be the grace of God in those countries. I was happy that God has His protection over His children.

JEREMIAH 10:2
1 Hear ye the word which the Lord speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
2 Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

ISAIAH 47:13-14
13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.
14 Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.

DEUTORONOMY 18:10-12

12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

ISAIAH 8:19-22
19  And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?
20  To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
21  And they shall pass through it, hardly bestead and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.
22  And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.

REVELATION 9:20-21
20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils,(OCCULT) and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries,(DRUG ADDICTIONS OR SELLING DRUGS) nor of their fornication,(SEX OUTSIDE OF MARRIAGE)(PROSTITUTION FOR MONEY) nor of their thefts.(STEALING)

The total solar eclipse will sweep across much of the country in the final hours of the afternoon and millions of people will be able to witness one of the most eagerly awaited astronomical events of recent years. But there is a key question before heading out to find a spot to watch it: what time will the eclipse be visible in my city? There is no single answer for the whole of Spain. The Moon’s shadow will move from west to east and the moment of maximum darkness will vary slightly depending on the location. In general terms, the most eagerly awaited moment will come at around 20:30, although in some cities it will occur a few minutes earlier and in others a little later. What is more, not all of Spain will see a total eclipse. The path of totality will cross parts of the north and east of the peninsula before reaching the Balearic Islands. Outside that path, the eclipse will be partial, although in many places the Sun will be almost completely covered. What time will the eclipse be in each city? These are the approximate times of the totality phase in the main Spanish provincial capitals that lie within the path of the lunar shadow:
La Coruña: from 20:27 to 20:28. Totality will last for approximately 1 minute and 18 seconds.
Oviedo: between 20:27 and 20:28, with close to 1 minute and 48 seconds of totality.
Santander: between 20:26 and 20:28. Total darkness will last for around 1 minute and 2 seconds.
Bilbao: at around 20:27, although totality will be much shorter, at about 27 seconds.
Vitoria-Gasteiz: between 20:27 and 20:28, lasting for roughly 1 minute.
Lugo: between 20:28 and 20:29, with 1 minute and 25 seconds of totality.
León: between 20:28 and 20:30. Totality will last for around 1 minute and 45 seconds.
Burgos: between 20:28 and 20:30, lasting for approximately 1 minute and 43 seconds.
Logroño: between 20:28 and 20:29, with around 1 minute and 19 seconds of totality.
Palencia: between 20:29 and 20:30, lasting for approximately 1 minute and 42 seconds.
Soria: between 20:29 and 20:30, with 1 minute and 41 seconds of totality.
Zaragoza: between 20:29 and 20:30, lasting for approximately 1 minute and 23 seconds.
Lérida: at around 20:29, with a totality of barely 24 seconds.
Tarragona: between 20:29 and 20:30, lasting for about 58 seconds.
Zamora: between 20:30 and 20:31, with around 24 seconds of totality.
Segovia: between 20:31 and 20:32. Totality will last for approximately one minute.
Guadalajara: between 20:31 and 20:32, lasting for approximately 1 minute and 8 seconds.
Teruel: between 20:31 and 20:32, with around 1 minute and 35 seconds of totality.
Castellón: between 20:31 and 20:32, lasting for approximately 1 minute and 34 seconds.
Palma de Mallorca: between 20:31 and 20:32, with around 1 minute and 36 seconds of totality.
Cuenca: between 20:32 and 20:33, lasting for about 57 seconds.
Valencia: between 20:32 and 20:33, with approximately one minute of totality. What time will the eclipse be in Madrid and Barcelona? Two of Spain’s most populous cities will lie outside the main path of totality. In Madrid, the eclipse will be partial and will reach its maximum at around 20:32. The situation is particularly unusual because the edge of the path of totality passes very close to the capital and reaches parts of the municipal area close to Barajas. In Barcelona, totality will also not occur. The moment of maximum obscuration of the Sun will be at approximately 20:29.That does not mean the phenomenon will go unnoticed. From both cities it will be possible to observe a very deep partial eclipse, although there will be no brief spell of darkness such as that experienced in towns and cities lying within the path of totality. The time differences between cities are due to the path of the Moon’s shadow. The area of total darkness will enter from the west and cross Spain on its way towards the Balearic Islands. That is why, while in places such as Santander, Oviedo or La Coruña the decisive moment will come at around 20:27, in locations further east such as Valencia, Castellón or Palma it will occur several minutes later. All this will happen with the Sun very close to the horizon. The eclipse will coincide with sunset, a circumstance that will make it especially important to choose a place with a clear view to the west, without buildings, mountains or trees blocking the Sun in those crucial minutes. An eclipse that will be visible across Spain-Those outside the path of totality will also be able to follow the event. The eclipse will be visible, at least partially, from all Spanish territory, including the Canary Islands. The big difference will lie in those seconds when the Moon completely covers the solar disc. Within the path of totality, the sky will darken rapidly and it will be possible to observe the solar corona for a brief interval.Outside that path, a small part of the Sun will remain visible even at maximum eclipse, so the sky will never take on the characteristic appearance of a total eclipse. And one final warning will be essential, regardless of the city from which it is observed: you must not look directly at the Sun without certified protective equipment during the partial phases of the eclipse. Ordinary sunglasses are not suitable for observing the event safely. This text was translated with the help of artificial intelligence and originally published in Spanish

Perseids Meteor Shower
Four yellowish meteors streak across a partly cloudy sky above some green trees and brown rocky, hills.
Meteors from the Perseids Meteor Shower streak across a partly cloudy sky above Inyo National Forest in Bishop, California, in 2024. Pinkish glow of aurora can be seen to the left of the image, and a bit of greenish glow is visible to the right. The Andromeda Galaxy appears at the top just to the left of center.

About the Meteor Shower-The Perseids, which peaks in mid-August, is considered the best meteor shower of the year. With swift and bright meteors, Perseids frequently leave long "wakes" of light and color behind them as they streak through Earth's atmosphere. The Perseids are one of the most plentiful showers with about 50 to 100 meteors seen per hour. They occur with warm summer nighttime weather allowing sky watchers to comfortably view them.Perseids are also known for their fireballs. Fireballs are larger explosions of light and color that can persist longer than an average meteor streak. This is due to the fact that fireballs originate from larger particles of cometary material. Fireballs are also brighter, with apparent magnitudes greater than -3.Viewing Tips-The Perseids are best viewed in the Northern Hemisphere during the pre-dawn hours, though at times it is possible to view meteors from this shower as early as 10 p.m.Where Do Meteors Come From? Meteors come from leftover comet particles and bits from broken asteroids. When comets come around the Sun, they leave a dusty trail behind them. Every year Earth passes through these debris trails, which allows the bits to collide with our atmosphere and disintegrate to create fiery and colorful streaks in the sky.The Comet-The pieces of space debris that interact with our atmosphere to create the Perseids originate from comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle. Swift-Tuttle takes 133 years to orbit the Sun once. It was Giovanni Schiaparelli who realized in 1865 that this comet was the source of the Perseids. Comet Swift-Tuttle last visited the inner solar system in 1992.Comet Swift-Tuttle was discovered in 1862 by Lewis Swift and Horace Tuttle. Swift-Tuttle is a large comet: its nucleus is 16 miles (26 kilometers) across. (This is almost twice the size of the object hypothesized to have led to the demise of the dinosaurs.)The Radiant-Their radiant – the point in the sky from which the Perseids appear to come – is the constellation Perseus. This is also where we get the name for the shower: Perseids. However, the constellation for which a meteor shower is named only serves to aid viewers in determining which shower they are viewing on a given night. The constellation is not the source of the meteors.

A solar eclipse and the Perseid meteor shower arrive on the same day-Date:August 5, 2026-Source:NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Summary:
August brings four major celestial events, including a solar eclipse and the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. Dark New Moon skies could make the Perseids especially impressive, while Venus will blaze in the west after sunset. A deep partial lunar eclipse closes the month, darkening most of the Moon.
A solar eclipse, the Perseid meteor shower, brilliant Venus, and a deep partial lunar eclipse will make August an unusually eventful month for skywatchers.
August Skywatching Highlights
Aug. 5: Last Quarter Moon
Aug. 12: A total solar eclipse crosses northern Russia, Greenland, Iceland, northern Spain, and part of Portugal. A partial eclipse will be visible from parts of the United States. The New Moon also occurs on this date.
Aug. 12 and 13: The Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak under exceptionally dark skies.
Aug. 14 through 16: Venus reaches its greatest eastern elongation and glows low in the western sky after sunset.
Aug. 27 and 28: A partial lunar eclipse will be visible across much of North and South America, along with parts of Europe and Africa.
A solar eclipse, one of the year's most popular meteor showers, a dazzling evening appearance by Venus, and a lunar eclipse will fill August with memorable celestial events.
That's "What's Up" for August. On Aug. 12, the path of a total solar eclipse will sweep across northern Russia, Greenland, Iceland, and northern Spain. A small section of Portugal will also fall within the path of totality.Observers in parts of the United States, stretching from Alaska to North Carolina, will see a partial eclipse instead. From these locations, the Moon will cover only a small portion of the Sun, with the amount of coverage depending on where the observer is located. How to Watch the Solar Eclipse Safely-Proper eye protection is essential whenever any part of the Sun remains visible. Viewers should use certified eclipse glasses or another approved solar viewing device. Ordinary sunglasses do not provide enough protection.Never look at the Sun through binoculars, a telescope, or a camera unless a solar filter designed for the front of the instrument is securely attached.Dark Skies for the Perseid Meteor Shower-Later on Aug. 12, the Perseid meteor shower will begin its peak, continuing into the early morning of Aug. 13. Because the New Moon also arrives on Aug. 12, moonlight will not interfere, creating ideal dark conditions for spotting meteors. The Perseids return each year as Earth travels through a trail of debris released by Comet Swift-Tuttle. Tiny particles of comet material enter the atmosphere at tremendous speed, heat up, and produce bright streaks across the sky.Once darkness falls, look toward the northeast and wait for the constellation Perseus to rise above the horizon. The meteors appear to come from this part of the sky, but they can streak across almost any direction, so viewers should scan a wide area overhead. For the clearest view, choose a dark location with an open horizon, remain outside as the night progresses, and allow about 30 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the darkness.Venus Shines Brightly After Sunset-From Aug. 14 through 16, Venus reaches its greatest eastern elongation. This marks the planet's widest visible separation from the Sun during its current appearance in the evening sky.Shortly after sunset, Venus will be easy to find low in the west. It will appear brighter than every nearby star. Through a telescope, the planet will look almost half illuminated, resembling a miniature lunar phase.A Deep Partial Lunar Eclipse-On the night of Aug. 27, extending into Aug. 28 in some time zones, the Full Moon will pass through Earth's shadow and create a partial lunar eclipse. The event will be visible from much of North and South America, as well as portions of Europe and Africa. At the eclipse's maximum point, about 93% of the Moon's diameter will lie within Earth's dark central shadow, known as the umbra. The Moon will not become completely covered, but most of its surface may appear dramatically dimmed. The shadowed portion could also develop a rusty or copper colored tint.Unlike a solar eclipse, a lunar eclipse can be viewed safely without eye protection. Binoculars or a small telescope can provide a closer look as the curved edge of Earth's shadow moves across the lunar surface.

Partial solar eclipse headed for Canadian skies. Here’s what you need to know.By-Maria Sarrouh-Updated: August 12, 2026 at 12:07p.m. EDT

Many Canadians looking to the sky Wednesday will enjoy a partial view of a solar eclipse, while the moon completely blocks the sun in parts of Europe and the Arctic.“We will see a little sliver of it taken off,” science and technology expert Dan Riskin told CP24 this morning. “I think this is just a really exciting day for people in Iceland, people in England, people in Spain. A lot of people have travelled to go there to see this.”Here’s what Canadians need to know. Will Canada see the solar eclipse in 2026? Yes, but Canada is outside the path of totality.NASA estimates about 53 per cent of the sun will be covered at maximum eclipse in St. John’s, compared with 31 per cent in Halifax, 18 per cent in Montreal, and eight per cent in Toronto. Some cities will be outside the viewing area, including Vancouver. What time is the solar eclipse? The timing depends on where you are in Canada, with the eclipse moving generally from west to east. Here are the approximate start, maximum and end times for several Canadian cities, according to NASA. All times are local.
Edmonton: begins 10:02 a.m., maximum 10:38 a.m., ends 11:15 a.m.
Winnipeg: begins 11:25 a.m., maximum 12:02 p.m., ends 12:40 p.m.
Montreal: begins 12:50 p.m., maximum 1:45 p.m., ends 2:38 p.m.
Toronto: begins 12:55 p.m., maximum 1:40 p.m., ends 2:23 p.m.
Halifax: begins 1:58 p.m., maximum 3 p.m., ends 3:58 p.m.
St. John’s: begins 2:28 p.m., maximum 3:35 p.m., ends 4:37 p.m.
Do I need solar eclipse glasses? Yes. Anyone watching the eclipse directly needs solar eclipse glasses for the entire event. The Canadian Space Agency says looking directly at the sun, without appropriate protection, can lead to serious problems such as partial or complete loss of eyesight.Regular sunglasses, regardless of how dark, aren’t sufficient.Where will people see a total solar eclipse? A total solar eclipse will be visible from a relatively narrow path crossing Greenland, Iceland, northern Russia, the Atlantic Ocean, Spain and a small part of Portugal.Outside that path, a partial eclipse will be visible across most of Canada, parts of the northern United States, much of Europe and northwestern Africa. How long until the next solar eclipse in Canada? Another solar eclipse will be partially visible in eastern Canada on Aug. 2, 2027, but Canadians will have to wait longer to experience totality. The CSA says the next total solar eclipse visible in Canada will take place on Aug. 22, 2044.

World's oceans hit record-high July temperatures-AUG 10,26-Jessica Rawnsley

The world's oceans hit their hottest ever recorded temperatures for July, partly fuelled by developing El Niño conditions in the Pacific, according to the EU's climate monitoring service. The average sea surface temperature (SST) outside the world's polar regions - between 60 degrees north and 60 degrees south - was 20.96C last month, beating the previous high of 20.89C, set in 2023.Last month was the joint second-warmest July globally on record, with temperatures 1.47C above the estimated pre-industrial average, according to the Copernicus Climate Change Service.Meanwhile, Western Europe experienced its hottest ever June and July, with prolonged hot and dry conditions fuelling extreme wildfires across the region.Elsewhere, the UK is braced for its fifth heatwave of the year this week, as persistent dry weather puts further pressure on water supplies and could see more areas officially declared in drought. What is El Niño and why could it mean record temperatures? Rhine falls to record low levels as drought strains Europe's rivers-Around Europe, sea surface temperatures in July reached record highs along the Atlantic coast and in the western Mediterranean, contributing to widespread strong and severe marine heatwaves.Sea temperatures remained exceptionally high across much of the tropical Pacific, where El Niño conditions are developing and forecast to strengthen in the coming months.El Niño is a natural weather pattern in the Pacific that combined with human-driven global warming can cause temperature spikes and more extreme weather.Oceans are a vital regulator of the climate, absorbing most of the excess heat generated by greenhouse gas emissions and producing half of Earth's oxygen. The greatest effect of ocean warming is on sea level rise. As seawater warms it expands, and this thermal expansion accounts for roughly a third of sea level rise recorded by scientists to date. That water encroaches on low-lying coasts and island nations.Hotter seas are also driving longer and fiercer marine heatwaves, which have bleached coral reefs on a mass scale and decimated kelp forests and fisheries.Warmer ocean surfaces also evaporate more heat and moisture into the air, intensifying tropical storms and loading them with heavier rainfall.'Climate change is intensifying heat extremes' Western Europe is experiencing an exceptional run of extreme heat - with record-breaking temperatures in June and July, and some areas facing their third or fourth heat wave since May.The average temperature across western Europe for June and July was 21.62C - 2.79C above average and the highest for the two-month period."July 2026 was the third consecutive month of exceptional heat in western Europe," said Samantha Burgess, strategic lead for climate at the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts.Persistent high-pressure systems trapped heat over the region, she said, while dry soils reduced the ability to provide natural cooling."This is a clear example of how climate change is intensifying heat extremes, with heat and drought increasingly reinforcing one another," she added.France, Spain, parts of Germany and the UK recorded exceptionally low rainfall and/or soil moisture, while soil moisture levels across much of western Europe were significantly lower than in 2022, when the region experienced severe drought.River levels have been much lower than average - in some places exceptionally low -with the Seine, Rhine and Danube among those particularly affected.Low flows exacerbate pressure on water supplies and irrigation, aquatic ecosystems, river transport and energy production. Some rivers in Europe have recorded extremely low water levels, including the Danube-The prolonged hot and dry conditions have created favourable conditions for wildfires, with massive wildfires raging across western Europe last month and "exceptional activity" in terms of the area burned and smoke and emissions generated."Climate change is increasingly bringing the kinds of hot and dry conditions that favour large, high-intensity wildfires in southern Europe while extended the fire season northwards," said Laurence Rouil, director of the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service.Larger fires produce more smoke and inject it higher into the atmosphere, allowing it to travel much further, he said. That means countries that experience relatively few wildfires could be increasingly affected by smoke traveling long distances.Extreme weather 'new normal' In the UK, meanwhile, the prolonged dry spell is increasing pressure on already-stretched water supplies.England and Wales recorded their driest July since records began 190 years ago, according to the Met Office, while large parts of England and all of Wales have already been officially declared in drought. The Environment Agency has warned that more areas of England could be declared in drought if dry conditions persist.Weather that was once considered extreme is becoming the "new normal", according to the latest Met Office report on the UK's climate. Its latest assessment found that the hottest day of the year in southern England is now 4.5C warmer than it was between 1961 and 1990."We are right now living in a time of historic and unprecedented change," said Mike Kendon, Met Office climate information scientist, adding that "evidence shows the climate of the 20th century has now gone".Scientists say El Niño may temporarily push global temperatures even higher. Its effects are being felt against a backdrop of man-made warming, particularly the burning of fossil fuels. The world is now about 1.4C warmer on average than it was in the late 19th Century.

China evacuates one million from homes as massive storm arrives-AUG 10,26-Kelly Ng

Chinese authorities have evacuated more than a million people from their homes in eastern China including the financial capital Shanghai, as Typhoon Dolphin made landfall. The typhoon brought heavy rain and halted transportation across the region. Nearly 1,000 flights were cancelled in Shanghai alone on Monday. While authorities have downgraded Dolphin to a tropical storm, they continue to warn of torrential rains, severe flooding and the risk of landslides through to Wednesday as the storm moves north.Chinese authorities had earlier issued their highest-level red alert for Dolphin, which is the strongest storm to hit China this year.It packed maximum wind speeds of 150km/h (94mph) when it first slammed into Yuhuan in the Zhejiang province at 17:30 (09:30 GMT) on Sunday before making a second landfall in the city of Wenzhou about an hour later, meteorological authorities said.Heavy rain was forecast on Monday for the provinces of Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and the city of Shanghai.Governments have urged people to avoid outdoor activities, while several top tourist attractions remain closed, including parts of Disneyland and Legoland, and several viewing platforms along the Bund in Shanghai.Footage on state media show ground-floor businesses flooded in the former French Concession in Shanghai, an area popular with tourists, and people wading through ankle-deep waters.Several state media outlets have reported that a nine-year-old boy from Wenling, Zhejiang is missing after being swept into the sea. Chinese officials have not reported any casualties.Parts of Zhejiang could receive 250mm to 500mm of rain over the next few days, forecasters say.Authorities in Hangzhou, Zhejiang's capital city, have waived parking fees in all public spaces for drivers seeking shelter amid the strong winds and floodwaters.Elsewhere in the province, Wenzhou authorities have relocated some 900,000 residents and opened more than 1,000 emergency shelters, while about 390,000 people have been evacuated from their homes in the city of Taizhou. In the coastal province of Fujian, maritime authorities have suspended dozens of passenger ferry routes and halted more than 100 offshore construction projects. The storm moved over a long distance of 6,000km before making landfall, suggesting a lifespan of more than three times that of an average typhoon, according to China's state broadcaster CCTV.It also has a massive circulation size and intense rainfall capacity, CCTV reported.Misinformation around the storm has apparently spread rapidly on the Chinese internet, with state media reporting that two people have been detained for distributing such content. One of them, a 60-year-old man, created a fake video with AI that claimed someone in Shanghai had fallen from a building during the storm.Another man, 32, had re-edited storm footage posted by other social media users in a way that was deemed as misleading.Dolphin brought torrential rains to the Philippines, parts of northern Taiwan and Japan's Okinawa island before bearing down on ChinaMore than 7,000 people are sheltering at evacuation centres nationwide in the Philippines-Eight people have died in the Philippines because of heavy monsoon rains brought on by Dolphin and storms earlier in the week, says the Office of Civil Defence. More than 7,000 people are sheltering at evacuation centres nationwide. In Okinawa in Japan, five elderly people suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the prefectural government.Three of them fell because of the strong winds, it said.Meanwhile in Hong Kong, weather observatory posted a record high temperature of 36.9C on Sunday as the typhoon swept warm air over the city.Typhoon season in the western Pacific typically occurs between May and October, when typhoons are considered more commonplace. This year is a strong El Niño year, which experts say means typhoons can grow to be more intense.

China evacuates a million from homes as Typhoon Dolphin arrives-By Sarah Shamim-Published On 10 Aug 202610 Aug 2026

Provinces in eastern China have been inundated with heavy rain and flooding caused by Typhoon Dolphin, the strongest storm to make landfall in China this year.Dolphin struck eastern China, including Shanghai, with winds up to 150 kilometres per hour (93 miles per hour), forcing more than one million people to evacuate their homes. The storm has disrupted flights and other transport while bringing heavy rain, flooding and the risk of landslides across the region.About 40 percent of flights in Shanghai were grounded on Monday due to the weather. After Dolphin made landfall late on Sunday, it weakened to below cyclone strength and is forecast to weaken further as it moves inland. Here is what we know:When and where did Typhoon Dolphin make landfall? The typhoon made landfall in Yuhuan in China’s Zhejiang province about 5:30pm (09:30 GMT) on Sunday, according to China’s meteorological authorities. On Monday, Shanghai was badly hit with residents circulating the hashtag “Shanghai turns into the sea” on the Chinese social media platform Weibo.Last month, Typhoon Bavi also made landfall in Zhejiang, causing the evacuation of 1.7 million people.Where is the storm moving, and how much damage will it cause? Torrential rain was expected on Monday across Zhejiang, Shanghai, northern Fujian, northeastern Jiangxi, central and southern Anhui and much of Jiangsu.Parts of central and eastern Zhejiang could receive 250mm to 500mm (10 to 20 inches) of rain in all, according to forecasters.China’s Ministry of Water Resources warned that the Qiantang, Yong, Jiao and Shuiyang rivers could experience major flooding while smaller rivers in the hardest hit areas could rise above warning levels.Authorities also warned of a high risk of geological disasters in parts of Zhejiang with residents in areas under a red mountain-torrent warning told to follow local evacuation orders.Since making landfall, Dolphin is forecast to track westwards before slowing over central and southwestern China and gradually losing strength, Wang Haiping, chief forecaster at the National Meteorological Centre, told state broadcaster CCTV.The slower movement could prolong heavy rainfall and increase the threat of flooding and landslides, particularly in mountainous areas and along smaller rivers. How have the authorities responded? The authorities have warned of the risk of severe flooding and landslides as the storm moves further inland and continues to bring heavy rain to densely populated areas of eastern China.Shanghai evacuated at least 30,300 people while, in neighbouring Zhejiang province, the city of Wenzhou relocated more than 900,000 residents and opened more than 1,000 emergency shelters.Authorities also evacuated about 390,000 people in the Zhejiang city of Taizhou before Saturday evening. In Fujian province, about 98,900 people were evacuated from high-risk areas after authorities raised the typhoon emergency response to Level III, the state news agency Xinhua reported.Authorities moved offshore workers to safety, ordered vessels back to port and stepped up inspections of reservoirs, mountain streams, landslide-prone areas, construction sites and tourist locations.People have been told to avoid going out of doors and tourist attractions, including parts of Disneyland and Legoland, and viewing platforms along the Bund in Shanghai have been closed. In Hangzhou, Zhejiang’s capital, parking fees in public spaces have been waived for drivers needing to abandon vehicles to seek shelter.Transport has been widely disrupted across the region. About 1,400 flights have been cancelled from Shanghai.Fujian maritime authorities suspended 55 coastal passenger ferry routes, halted 115 offshore construction projects and moved 290 construction vessels to sheltered waters.Shanghai’s Yangshan port also cleared ships from its berths and moved more than 500 small and medium-sized vessels to shelter before the storm. How strong is Typhoon Dolphin, and where did it come from? Dolphin originally grew out of a tropical depression on July 26, moving at 45km/h (30mph) over the open waters of the Central Pacific Ocean as it embarked on a journey of several thousand kilometres.Over the course of its journey, Dolphin strengthened to a tropical storm and then to a severe tropical storm before burgeoning into a typhoon and then a very strong typhoon on July 28.As it came ashore in China on Monday, the storm packed maximum sustained winds of 151km/h (93mph) near its centre, equivalent to a Category 1 hurricane, the lowest category of hurricane.Hurricanes, cyclones and typhoons are all essentially the same thing. The main difference is where they originate. All three are storm systems with winds exceeding 118km/h (73mph).Typhoons occur in the northwestern Pacific Ocean and frequently hit the Philippines and Japan. Typhoon season is most common between May and October, but the storms can form year-round. The strength of a typhoon has various classification scales with the most severe storms named super typhoons.Cyclones occur in the South Pacific and the Indian Ocean, often impacting countries from Australia all the way to Mozambique. Cyclone season typically runs from November to April.Hurricanes occur in the Atlantic Ocean and Eastern Pacific and often affect the East Coast of the United States, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. The strength of a hurricane is measured on a wind scale from 1 to 5. A Category 1 hurricane will bring sustained winds of 119-153km/h (74-95mph) whereas a Category 5 storm can exceed 252km/h (157mph).Different agencies use different wind scales. China does not use the Saffir-Simpson hurricane category scale in its official domestic forecasting or national standards. Will Typhoon Dolphin become stronger or weaker now? Since making landfall on Sunday, Dolphin has weakened and is expected to further weaken. As of Monday, Dolphin is a remnant low, or a weakened, post-tropical cyclone that has lost the organised thunderstorm activity required to qualify as a tropical storm. It is expected to continue to dissipate and lose energy on Tuesday to 35km/h by 17:00 GMT.Where else has Typhoon Dolphin hit? The typhoon battered the outer Japanese Ogasawara Islands, also called the Bonin Islands – the first part of Japan it reached – with strong winds on August 4.Dolphin then swept through Japan’s southern Okinawa prefecture over the weekend, injuring at least six people and cutting power to more than 50,000 buildings. The outer bands of Dolphin brought heavy rain to northern Taiwan, including the capital, Taipei, from Saturday. Dozens of ferry services were suspended, and more than 180 flights were cancelled as the storm brought strong winds and downpours. In the Philippines, Dolphin intensified seasonal monsoon rains that triggered flooding and landslides in parts of the country.Five people were rescued and seven were still missing after a landslide struck three houses in the northern mountain resort city of Baguio on Sunday, according to officials.Flooding also affected large parts of the main northern island of Luzon, including the densely populated Manila metropolitan region, displacing more than 12,000 people and forcing several northern cities and towns to close schools on Friday and Saturday. The monsoon rains followed a tropical storm that killed at least six people last week, including four people killed in a landslide and rockslide in the provinces of Benguet and Rizal, Philippine officials said. Why is this storm called Typhoon Dolphin? The typhoon has been named after Hong Kong’s Chinese white dolphins.Individual hurricanes, typhoons and cyclones are named by the Typhoon Committee at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), which maintains premade, rotating lists of names. For hurricanes originating in the Atlantic Ocean, these lists comprise typically male or female first names that are easy to remember. The WMO’s lists of names for the western North Pacific’s storms include local animals, plants and cultural items. Dolphin was Hong Kong’s contribution.Where to track Dolphin-You can track Dolphin on Zoom Earth, an online platform with satellite imagery that shows weather patterns and is useful for tracking storms.

At least 47 dead after 7.4-magnitude earthquake hits western Colombia-By Manuel Rueda, Astrid Suárez And Megan Janetsky The Associated Press-Posted August 10, 2026 12:18 pm

At least 47 people were killed and dozens of buildings collapsed in cities across western Colombia on Monday after a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck the South American nation. The quake trapped residents under debris, leaving more injured and forcing people to evacuate their homes as far as the capital of Bogotá.The epicenter was in San Jose Del Palmar, a community of about 4,800 people in the Choco region about 250 miles (400 kilometers) west of Bogota, the U.S. Geological Survey and Colombia’s counterpart reported. The USGS said it struck at a depth of 66 miles (107 kilometers). The quake also was felt in neighboring Ecuador and Panama, though minimal damage was reported there.Local officials confirmed that at least 18 people had been killed in the city of Pereira, two in the city of Manizales, and 27 people in the Valle de Cauca department, where Colombia’s third-biggest city, Cali, is located. The quake left cities across the west of the country — Pereira, Quibdo, Cali and Manizales — ravaged. A mix of residents and search teams picked through the rubble of collapsed buildings amid concerns by authorities of aftershocks. Colombia’s interior minister said more than 20 municipalities across the country had been hit.People stand outside their homes after a quake was felt in Bogota, Colombia, Monday, Aug. 10, 2026.Jorge Moncayo, a 64-year-old taxi driver in Cali, said he saw plumes of dust shoot up across the city from his home in hills of the city as buildings collapsed. Residents in the city and rescue workers were searching the rubble for survivors.“My entire house shook,” he said. “I’ve never lived through such a powerful earthquake.”Colombia’s Geological Service said Monday that it had been “the highest magnitude earthquake registered in Colombia in the last decade” and that it had been followed by two 2.8 and 4.8 magnitude aftershocks. Authorities also reported that flights were suspended in the airports of Manizales, Quibdo, Armenia, Cartago y Buenaventura and Pereira. The earthquakes left many in the Andean nation unnerved after two back-to-back quakes devastated neighboring Venezuela in late June, destroyed hundreds of buildings and killed more than 5,000 people. At the same time the quake brought down buildings in Colombia, desperate families in Venezuela continued to search the ruins for the bodies of their loved ones.In Pereira, photos and videos published by local media showed pieces of the airport ceiling falling down on travelers taking shelter and screaming, and people running through rubble in a panic.Pereira’s mayor, Mauricio Salazar, told a local radio station that at least 18 people had died and that many more were trapped under “a massive quantity of collapsed buildings.”In nearby Manizales, a city nestled in the coffee-producing mountains of Colombia, one of the towers of the neo-Gothic cathedral collapsed and fell on the nave. Jorge Eduardo Rojas, the mayor of Manizales said two people had died in the city “because of the quake” and asked residents to stay outside in case of aftershocks.Authorities in the rural state of Choco, the epicenter of the quake, reported injured people and damaged buildings in the capital, but provided few details. In Cali, a city 2 million people, Mayor Alejandro Eder said that residents were trapped in at least 19 buildings that had collapsed.Small earthquakes, known as “temblores,” are common in central and western Colombia, but those above 6.0 magnitude are rare. In 1999, a 6.2 magnitude quake near the city of Armenia, killed more than 1,100 people.Colombia’s newly inaugurated President Abelardo de la Espriella said Monday that he had personally taken charge of the government’s response to the emergency in San José del Palmar following the earthquake that struck the country.“You are not alone. The state is present and taking action,” he said.

Matthew 8:1-4-King James Version
8:1 When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.
2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

GOD PERFORMED A MIRACLE FOR ME.

HERE AT THE VILLAGE IN HANOVER I AM A BIT OF A BRAT TO THE LADY WORKERS.WHEN I AM NOT WORKING ON MY STORIES FOR MY SITES, RACE PREDICTIONS OR HOCKEY STATS, OR YAHTZEE WITH MY TWIN SISTER.AT MEAL TIMES WHILE THE LADIES ON THE COFFEE CART OR COLD DRINKS. I MOVE MY CUP WHILE THEY POUR THE DRINK TO PRETEND I WANT THEM TO SPILL MY DRINK. OK SO SAT AUG 8,26. I WENT FOR LUNCH IN THE MEAL ROOM. AND THE COFFEE LADY JUST HAPPENED TO BE AT MY TABLE WHEN I CAME IN. SHE SAID STAN. WOULD YOU LIKE A COFFEE. I SAID.NO, COULD I PLEASE JUST HAVE HOT WATER IN MY CUP. SINCE I HAVE HOT CHOCOLATE POWDER IN MY ROOM. AND I LIKE IT FOR A CHANGE INSTEAD OF COFFEE. OK SO I TAKE THE LID OFF MY CUP. AND SHE STARTS POURING THE HOT WATER IN IT. I WAS A BRAT AND STARTED MOVING THE CUP SLOWLY BACK AND FORTH. BUT THEN I DONE A BIG PUSH. AND THE SCALDING HOT WATER WITH STEAM FLOWING FROM IT. MISSED THE CUP AND ALL OVER MY LEFT HAND. THE SCALDING WATER DID COVER THE WHOLE LEFT HAND. AND THE COFFEE GAL WENT AND GOT A TOWEL TO CLEAN UP ON THE TABLE ALL THE HOT WATER THAT SPILT. MY HAND WAS INSTANTLY RED AND SORE. THE WORKER SAID YOUR HAND WILL HAVE BLISTERS FROM THE HOT WATER. I THEN ATE MY MEAL AND WENT BACK TO MY ROOM. MY HAND WAS STILL SORE. SO I DECIDED TO HAVE AN AFTERNOON SLEEP BEFORE I GET READY TO DO THE MOHAWK RESULTS AT 5.45PM (PREGAME SHOW) AND 6.40PM (THE 1ST RACE STARTS). SO FROM 1PM TO 5.30PM. I SLEPT. I GOT UP AND PUT MY PREDICTIONS ON MY COMPUTER. TO GET READY FOR THE PRE GAME RACE SHOW. I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT MY SCOLDED HAND TILL THE RACES WERE OVER SATURDAY NIGHT. AFTER THE RACES I SUDDENLY JUST REMERED. MY SCOLDING HOT WATER HAND HAD NO REDNESS, NO PAIN OR NO BLISTERING. I SAID TO MYSELF. THIS HAS TO BE A MIRACLE OF HEALING BY THE HOLY SPIRIT. THERES NO PAIN. MY HAND WAS SORE WHEN I FELL TO SLEEP. BUT NO SORENESS AT ALL NOW. OF COURSE I GIVE GOD ALL THE PRAISE AND GLORY FOR THIS HEALING MIRACLE.AS WE CHRISTIANS SHOULD ALL REALIZE. GOD KNOWS EVERY THING THAT WILL HAPPEN TO US BEFORE IT HAPPENS. AND EVEN WHAT WE SAY AND OUR THOUGHT BEFORE WE DO THEM.SO ALL I CAN FIGURE IS JESUS INTERCEEDED FOR ME TO THE FATHER.AND THE FATHER ALLOWED THE HOLY SPIRIT TO HEAL MY SCOLDED WATER HAND. SO I COULD GIVE THE FATHER GOD, JESUS THE JEWISH SON AND THE HOLY SPIRIT ALL THE PRAISE AND GLORY FOR THE MIRACLE HEALING. AND I GLADLY DO GIVE OUR GOD (TRINITY) ALL THE PRAISE AND GLORY FOR THE MIRACLE HEALING. NO REDNESS, NO BLISTERING ON MY LEFT HAND.AND NORMAL NOT SORE AT ALL. BUT I WILL NOT BE PLAYING WITH GIVING THE COFFEE GALS A MOVING CUP AGAIN. I PLAYED WITH SCOLDING WATER. AND IT NEVER PAYED.I JUST GIVE GOD ALL THE PRAISE AND GLORY FOR THE MIRACLE HEALING AGAIN.THIS MORNING THE SAME COFFEE GAL WAS ON. AND I TOLD HER THIS IS A MIRACLE NO LOK OF ANY SCALDING AT ALL. SHE BRUSHED OFF THE MIRACLE. BUT SAID YOU'VE GOT TOUGH SKIN.
