Potential buyers for Iran’s beleaguered oil industry have “significantly increased” in spite of renewed US sanctions targeting the nation’s chief export, Tehran’s oil minister said Saturday.“China, India, Japan, South Korea and other countries that were granted waivers from America to import Iranian oil are not willing to buy even one barrel more from Iran,” Amir Hossein Zamaninia told the SHANA news agency, in comments translated by Reuters.However, “Despite US pressures on [the] Iranian oil market, the number of potential buyers of Iranian oil has significantly increased due to a competitive market, greed and pursuit of more profit.”He did not give any further details.Other countries granted a 180-day waiver from the sanctions by Washington included Greece, Turkey, Italy and Taiwan.The report appeared to contradict a report by Reuters last week that India has handed Iran a tax break worth hundreds of millions of dollars to green-light an oil import deal hindered by the sanctions.In November, US President Donald Trump’s administration reinstated all of Washington’s sanctions on Iran that had been lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal.The sanctions were the second batch that the Trump administration has reimposed on the Islamic Republic since it withdrew from the nuclear agreement last year.The rollback ended US participation in the Obama-era accord, which now hangs in the balance as Iran no longer enjoys the billions of dollars in sanctions relief it was granted under the deal in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program.Iran is already in the grip of an economic crisis. Israeli security forces overnight Friday arrested a West Bank man whose two brothers have been implicated in two recent terror attacks, Palestinian media reported.Mohammad Barghouti, 17, was detained by troops in Kobar, a village near Ramallah, according to local media.Israeli defense officials have said Mohammad’s brother Asem is suspected of carrying out a deadly terror attack on December 13 near the Givat Assaf outpost in the West Bank.Palestinian media said Israeli forces threatened family members that they could be deported to Jericho if they did not give up Asem within days.Another brother, Salih, was shot dead on December 12 in Kobar as he attacked Israeli security forces in an attempt to evade arrest. He was suspected of having carried out a terror attack near the Ofra settlement three days earlier, on December 9.Seven people were wounded in the drive-by shooting attack on a bus stop outside Ofra, including a 30-weeks pregnant woman who was seriously injured. Her baby was delivered in an emergency operation, but died days later.Salih’s participation in the Ofra attack was confirmed by the Hamas terror group.The day after Israeli forces shot and killed Salih Barghouti, two soldiers were killed in the shooting attack near Givat Assaf — Sgt. Yosef Cohen and Staff Sgt. Israel maintains a naval blockade of the Gaza Strip, saying it is necessary to prevent terror groups from rearming and launching attacks.On Friday some 10,000 Palestinians took part in violent protests along the Gaza border, burning tires and hurling rocks and explosive devices at IDF soldiers.The army said it foiled two attempts to breach the border fence and responded to the demonstrators with tear gas and live fire in accordance with rules of engagement.Photos showed several youths trying to climb over the fence.The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza said 15 protesters were injured by live fire in clashes with Israeli security forces along the border. It also said five medics were hurt, all hit by gas canisters.Friday’s protests were held at various locations along the border under the banner of Hamas’s ongoing “March of Return” demonstrations.Since March, Palestinians have been holding weekly “March of Return” protests on the border, which Israel has accused Gaza’s Hamas rulers of using to carry out attacks on troops and attempt to breach the security fence. James Risch, R-Idaho, on Thursday, the first day of the new Congress, combined a number of Middle East-related bills into a single bill, jump-starting the process.“First item the Senate will take up in the new Congress will be our bill to deal with the crisis in #Syria & support our allies in the Middle East,” Rubio said on Twitter.Among the items is the Ileana Ros-Lehtinen United States-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act, named for the Republican Florida congresswoman who just retired and who tried to shepherd the bill through the last Congress.The bill would codify the 2016 deal between the Obama administration and the Netanyahu government that guarantees Israel $38 billion in security assistance over 10 years, protecting the assistance from the whims of any current or future president.Ros-Lehtinen garnered massive bipartisan support and got the bill through the House. Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir said Thursday he was advised to normalize ties with Israel in a bid to help to stabilize the growing domestic unrest that is threatening his iron-fisted rule of the country.Bashir made the remarks during a meeting with Sufi leaders in the capital Khartoum held to discuss the violence and clashes throughout Sudan in recent weeks that have seen at least 19 protesters killed, according to Turkey’s Andalou Agency.The president did not specify who gave him the advice, but told the religious leaders he believed that “sustenance is in the hands of God,” according to the report.The Thursday meeting comes after nearly two weeks of clashes that initially began in protest of rising bread prices but have rapidly evolved into anti-government rallies. The rallies have grown across Sudan in recent weeks, with at least 19 anti-government protesters killed. Human Rights group Amnesty International said 34 protesters have been killed in that time, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for an investigation into the violence.Israel has long been wary of Sudan, which was traditionally seen as close to Iran. However, in early 2017, Khartoum joined Sunni Bahrain and Saudi Arabia in severing its ties with the Islamic Republic.The country has also appeared to make overtures toward Israel. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. court on Friday ruled in favor of a Trump administration policy barring certain transgender people from serving in the U.S. armed forces, handing the president his first legal victory on the issue after several defeats.The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit overturned a decision by a federal judge in Washington, D.C., that blocked the policy, saying it likely violates the constitutional rights of transgender recruits and service members.President Donald Trump announced in March that he would endorse a plan by former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis to restrict the military service of transgender people who experience a condition called gender dysphoria.The appeals court victory is limited because other federal courts issued injunctions against the policy, which applied nationwide. Iran is set to deploy a fleet of warships to the western Atlantic Ocean in the coming months, a naval commander said Friday, in an apparent bid to counter the presence of a US aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf.Rear-Admiral Touraj Hassani told the state-run IRNA news site the flotilla of warships would depart for the Atlantic in March, and the mission would take several months.“The Atlantic Ocean is a long route, and it is likely that this Iranian mission would take five months to complete,” he said.Hassani said Iran’s newly launched destroyer, the Sahand, will be part of the fleet.
