Gen. H.R. McMaster, President Trump's national security adviser, tried to provide assurances that a conflict is avoidable, while also supporting Trump's tough talk. MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Despite a grim account of his imprisonment, the mood was joyful as a Canadian pastor freed from a North Korean prison addressed the congregation at a Toronto-area church Sunday.During his first public appearance since arriving home, Hyeon Soo Lim described his two years in isolation, where he says he did gruelling physical labour that landed him in hospital on several occasions.In an English translation of the address he gave in Korean, Lim describes the work he was forced to do and the effects it had on his body.Lim had been sentenced to life in prison with hard labour for alleged anti-state activities, but was released on what the North Korean government described as "sick bail" last week."The mud was so hard it took two days to dig one hole. It was incredibly challenging. My upper body was sweating; my fingers and toes were frostbitten," he said."One year of this difficult labour took a toll on my body and I was admitted to the hospital for two months. There would be three other occasions where I would be admitted to the hospital in serous condition."Lim said he often felt lonely and sometimes hopeless during his imprisonment. "It was difficult to see when and how the entire ordeal would end," he said. A member of the congregation said he told his audience he didn't know about his release until 15 minutes before it happened.When Lim arrived at the Light Korean Presbyterian Church in Mississauga, Ont., he was greeted by a cheering crowd. Some in the crowd reached out to embrace him as he walked by.About a half hour later, Lim gave his address in front of a church so full that some people who couldn't find seats stood in the back.And although the speech's contents read as solemn in the English translation, he delivered them energetically. He and the audience laughed as he delivered jokes in Korean that congregants later described as self-deprecating."You can see I've had a haircut," he reportedly told the congregation, gesturing to his bald head. He also joked that he's now an expert on North Korea, explaining that he read more than a hundred books on the country while in prison.He said he also read the Bible in both English and Korean five times "and memorized over 700 Bible verses."Church officials passed out sheet music for a song with lyrics that Lim wrote while he was imprisoned. FREETOWN (Reuters) - By Christo Johnson-More than 200 people were killed when a mudslide struck the outskirts of Sierra Leone's capital Freetown on Monday, sweeping away homes.The Red Cross said at least 205 bodies had been taken to the central morgue in Freetown. Police and military personnel were at the scene in the mountain town of Regent searching for people trapped in the debris.The death toll is expected to rise as more bodies are recovered, Red Cross spokesman Abu Bakarr Tarawallie said.Vice President Victor Foh told Reuters at the scene: "It is likely that hundreds are lying dead underneath the rubble." A severe thunderstorm watch turned into a warning for parts of central Alberta on Sunday afternoon, as smoke drifting from wildfires in B.C. continued to linger in the air.Environment Canada included Edmonton, St. Albert and Sherwood Park and Leduc in its warning alerts Sunday evening. Areas under a the severe thunderstorm watch, as well as an air quality alert, included Drayton Valley, Devon, Rimbey and Pigeon Lake. Camrose, Wetaskiwin and Tofield were under a thunderstorm warning only.Red Deer, Ponoka, Innisfail, Stettler, remained under a thunderstorm watch, while southern parts of the province were taken off the alert list.The thunderstorm is capable of producing strong winds, large hail and heavy rain, and the storm could travel farther north and east throughout the evening, prompting thunderstorm watches for more areas in central Alberta. Heavy smoke from wildfires in B.C. drifted into western areas of Alberta Sunday morning, leading to poor air quality and limited visibility throughout the day.Environment Canada issued a special air quality statement due to the smoke.As of 11:30 a.m. Sunday, the Air Quality Health Index was at a level 10 for Beaverlodge, Grande Prairie and Rycroft. A level 10 is the highest on the AQHI scale, a tool which measures health risk in relation to air quality. Smoke exposure can lead to coughing, throat irritation, headaches and shortness of breath. Children, seniors and those with certain health issues are most at risk. Environment Canada suggests limiting time outdoors during periods of heavy smoke.Wearing a mask is not the best means of protection against the smoke, and can even make breathing more difficult, Environment Canada says.Thunderstorms are expected in the Edmonton area beginning early Sunday evening and ending around midnight.

ROME — A second humanitarian group in two days has reluctantly decided to suspend migrant rescues in the Mediterranean Sea due to Libyan threats, and other charities with rescue ships on Sunday were considering doing the same.Germany-based Sea-Eye said it made the decision to halt its water rescues "with a heavy heart," but for the sake of its crew's safety.Sea-Eye cited the "changed security situation in the Western Mediterranean" following the Tripoli-based government's announcement it was extending its territorial waters.Save the Children said its rescue ship was staying in Malta after Libya declared that its search-and-rescue area now will extend far beyond the 12 nautical miles Italy and other countries consider the limit of its territorial waters.Libya also proclaimed its intention to "extend its control and prohibition of NGO ships in international waters," according to Save the Children, which is evaluating whether to stop its ship's patrols.On Saturday, Doctors Without Borders also cited Libyan threats in suspending its sea rescue activities. (Reuters) - Asylum seekers, mainly from Haiti, clambering over a gully from upstate New York into Canada on Friday were undeterred by the prospect of days in border tents, months of uncertainty and signs of a right-wing backlash in Quebec.More than 200 people a day are illegally walking across the U.S. border into Quebec to seek asylum, government officials said. Army tents have been erected near the border to house up to 500 people as they undergo security screenings.Over 4,000 asylum seekers have walked into Canada in the first half of this year, with some citing U.S. President Donald Trump’s tougher stance on immigration.The cars carrying the latest asylum seekers begin arriving at dawn in Champlain, New York, across from the Canadian border. On Friday, the first groups included two young Haitian men, a family of five from Yemen and a Haitian family with young twins."We have no house. We have no family. If we return we have nowhere to sleep, no money to eat," said a Haitian mother of a 2-year-old boy, who declined to give her name.Each family pauses a moment when a Royal Canadian Mounted police officer warns them they will be arrested if they cross the border illegally, before walking a well-trodden path across the narrow gully into Canada.Asylum seekers are crossing the border illegally because a loophole in a U.S. pact allows anyone who manages to enter Canada to file an asylum claim and stay in Canada while they await their application outcome. Some Christians believe the major solar eclipse on August 21 is a sign that our days on Earth are numbered.August’s solar eclipse will be the first in over a century to travel all the way from the east coast to the west coast of America, and believers claim it represents a chilling warning.Popular YouTube conspiracy theorist, Pastor Paul Begley, who hosts the radio show ‘Coming Apocalypse’, said: “I believe it is a prophetic sign.”Mr Begley references the Book of Joel, which says “the sun shall be turned to darkness” on the day before Christ’s return.The pastor added “somebody sound the trumpet” as the eclipse means “we are living in the last days.”Mr Begley is not the only one to believe that the solar eclipse on August 21 will mean the end of the world.Mark Biltz, author of the 2016 book God’s Day Timer, said: “From a biblical point of view, a solar eclipse is meant as a sign from God.“When there is a total solar eclipse, it is a warning to a specific nation or nations depending on its path. “Could God be giving us a warning that we need to repent or judgment will be coming to the United States?
